Another item was checked off of Andrew’s bucket list yesterday. He has always wanted to go mountain biking in Deer Valley… so we made it over there. I was just going to go out and find a random trail but decided to join the chair lift ride up with him.
But first we started with a fancy breakfast in the car of store bought muffins and a banana.
And then we were off. Andrew loves all the adrenaline that comes with mountain biking and I am scared to death of going faster than 5 mph on one.
We got to the top of the mountain and I ran around the hills up top for awhile (Andrew took a picture before he took off). I absolutely loved trail running here (Deer Valley FYI) because there were a million hikers and mountain bikers out so it felt really safe but also it felt like I was in my own little world because we were so far away from roads/cars.
Climbing up this hill hurt but it will be great training for when I hit mile 7 of my next marathon (Veyo hill is something else during the St. George Marathon).
Lake views. There is just something about trail running that is good for my soul. I think a trail race will be next on my to-do list.
Lots of single tracks through the trees.
And then I finished off before Andrew was done so I just hung out with my feet up. I forgot to push start again after my first stop so I have no idea how far I went but my legs felt like jello afterwards. J.E.L.L.O.
PS I love this little finish line that I came across. I want to finish a race here.
Andrew got a tad bit lost while he was out. He ended up in a crazy area and had to use the number on his wrist band for the Deer Valley people to come find him. They did, hallelujah. That little mishap meant we finally got to lunch at about 3 pm. We were starving but El Chubasco was there for us when we needed them.
If you are ever in Park City, I always stop here… they have a salsa bar there with like 12 different salsa options that are all delicious.
Chicken fajitas for me. They were everything and more.
We then hurried over to Andrew’s parents house to get ready for a wedding that was in Eden, Utah. I had never been to Eden before but it was amazing… it was a little valley with mountains surrounding the entire town.
Andrew’s good friend got married and it was beautiful.
And so was the pie bar. I mentioned on IG yesterday that Andrew doesn’t like pie (it makes zero sense to me) but he even loved these pies. The groom’s mom and sister made ALL of the pies for the wedding.
We finished off the night by watching BYU play Utah in football. Andrew went through at least 6 very intense emotions throughout the game. I had more fun watching him than the game.
And I got this picture of Brooke yesterday. She is having the time of her life and until we get our kiddos home we will just keep quoting them and talking about them and planning for them and telling each other funny stories about them.
In memory of those who died 15 years ago today, I personally want to spend some time remembering those innocent victims and being grateful for those who are serving our country and protecting us from terrorism.
Anyone else against pie? Have any that you do like?
How often do you hit the trails for a run? Prettiest trail run you have ever done?
Park City people… where is your favorite place to eat there?

I love pie – every kind!
Kathy
We got lost on a trail hiking in Colorado…an hour hike turned into 3. We didn’t bring our phones, water or food of any sort….stupid yes! We also almost missed the graduation ceremony at Red Rocks for our nephew which was the main reason we went out there originally!!
And right at the end of the trail we saw a huge snake…I am a freak about snakes…when seeing your pictures that is all I could think of…I have never hiked a trail since!
Do you ever see any when out running?
Lynn @ The Not Dead Yet Blog
I love all pie, except with nuts. I don’t understand pecan pie at all.
I’ve lost the trail while hiking before, sometimes enough to add two or three extra miles on. That’s annoying. Good for Andrew on calling that number. So many people wouldn’t, just out of stupid pride, and get themselves into an even worse situation.
Sara
I have never really liked pie, either! I know…weird. I think it’s because I’m more of a “chocolate dessert” person than a “fruity dessert” person! I just choose chocolate every time. ;)
The most amazing run I have been on (part trail, part side of the road) was in Grindelwald, Switzerland….sooo gorgeous & epic! You have to go there one day. The scenery is unreal!
Rest in peace to those lost 15 years ago & may their loved ones find peace. God Bless America <3
Jessica
A pie bar is such a fun idea! So I love pie filling, but not pie crust (unless it’s graham cracker- then I’m all in!). Weird, I know.
Mel _OutRunCf
I am weird too then haha pie crust does nothing for me at all! I wish I could just order the filling ;-)

HI Janae!
I have been reading your blog for quite some time and have never commented before :) But I would just like to know where you got your navy dress that you wore to the wedding. You looked adorable and I’m looking for a dress to wear to my upcoming engagement party! Please let me know when you get the chance. :)
Best regards,
Pardon
The Hungry Runner Girl
Hi! First, congratulations on your engagement!!! I got that dress at H&M three years ago. But I’ll try to find a similar one and let you know where. Thanks for reading and have a great day!
Erica
I had the most delicious grilled cheese at Main Street deli in park city. The add avecado and tomato. Cannot eat it any other way now.
Arthi
I’m with Andrew on the pie thing … Except for banana cream pie. Love me some banana cream pie :)
Looks like a great weekend!!
meredith (The Cookie ChRUNicles)
thank you for remembering what today is! it boggles my mind how other bloggers fail to remember. such a sad day but it’s also my mother’s birthday so each year we try to be positive..and eat cake.
Jenny
I watched the game with my father in law and my husband, it was a fun game, mostly because of the reactions they were giving.
Pie is one of my favorite desserts. If peach pie didn’t take so much work, I’d make it every week.
Loribeth
I like pie. All kinds :)
Courteney
OMG….that pie bar….I need to do one of those at my next family function!!!
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona
My favorite kind of pie is definitely cherry! I used to get the most amazing cherry pies at a farmer’s market that I used to work at. The lady working the pie stand always put one away for me because she knew I’d come by.

I know the “Veyo” hill well. I’ve ridden it on my bike in the Tour de St George and will be doing it again in October. And speaking of Veyo and pies, Veyo Pies pie shop makes the best pies. Their Apple is my favorite. We go there almost every time we go to St George. We just got bac yesterday and have two Apple pies in our fridge.
The Hungry Runner Girl
BROTHER ELDER!!! Seriously so good to hear from you! Oh I can’t imagine biking up Veyo… I’d probably fall backwards. You have sold me on Veyo Pies… we will be going right after the marathon. Thank you and I sure miss you guys!
Nina
I like pie filling but not traditional pie crust. Graham cracker, cookie, nut or multi-grain I enjoy, others not so much. (And I have tasted crust others rave about, I just don’t get it).
I live in NYC and worked near the Trade Center so it’s a day of remembrance for me. ( I was miraculously on vacation that week)
Angie @ Run Which Way
Your trails are very pretty. I would love to do some trail running in UT. If I ever make it out there I will be asking you where your favorite trail heads are.
My husband likes biking too. I am also afraid to go more than a couple mph though. :-)
About half of my miles these days are trail. We have some near me but I will drive the 70 miles so I can run trails in the Beartooth Mountains and they are all beautiful. I just did The Rut 50k in Big Sky, MT that was pretty stunning too (due to weather it was shortened to marathon length though).
Carmen
Beautiful pictures of Utah!!
Janae, your posts are not showing up in the Bloglovin feed.

Your new posts haven’t been showing up in Bloglovin for the past few days. :(
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
You go to some really good weddings. Pie bars, candy bars. Most of my friends are married now, but if they weren’t I’d be trying to convince them to up the dessert.
Susie
Omg I love pie!
How can anyone not like pie?!
My current favorite is this chocolate almond concoction from a local organic restaurant. The chef makes everything from scratch using local ingredients. The pie crust is like an almond tart crust that’s crunchy and sweet, the filling is a sweet almond butter custard deliciousness and its topped with a thick layer of chocolate ganache. So good!!
Sarah
Just a heads up that your site is still freezing up quite a bit!
The Hungry Runner Girl
OH NOOOOO Okay, so is it doing this on your phone or computer or both? What browser do you use? Thanks for letting me know and I hope you are having a great weekend!!!
Becky
My heart is sad on the day every year. Its so hard to believe that its been 15 years. I’m watching some news coverage this morning and they are reading the names of every victim. So glad thy are doing this!
Linda @ The Fitty
You didn’t have to write this post to make me want to go to Utah–I already watch SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE and they have the best dancers coming from there, so I’ve always wanted to visit!
Kara
Random question for you…
Yesterday on my long run I decided to try finally try taking an energy gel. Because of the small selection at the store I was at (will plan better next time) I decided to go with the Clif Energy Shot Gel in the mocha flavor. I took this at about mile 9 and noticed a spike in my energy which was wonderful!! My question for you is, during a marathon how many gel energy packets do you consume? Do you stick to one, or do you use more? My next marathon is coming up on October 2nd and I would love to hear your input! Thank you!!
The Hungry Runner Girl
Hey Kara!! YAY for your next marathon coming up and I’m stoked that you felt that marvelous spike of energy:) I personally take 3 (or 4 if I’m lucky… if my stomach isn’t being too crazy during a marathon) and also switch off between water and gatorade at each water station. I usually take one at about miles 6 or 7, 14 and 20… I definitely like to start my fueling a little bit before the one hour mark because I don’t want to get behind on my glycogen stores. Please let me know how it goes, I am so so excited for you!
LeeAnn Benesh
I cant tell from the pic, but dont think he has one on there….has Andrew tried a dropper post?? They are pretty stinkin awesome!
The Hungry Runner Girl
Okay crazy… we were just talking about this yesterday but that is what he wants next BIG TIME. He is sick of having to carry his tool to do it often throughout the ride! Thanks Leeann and I hope you are having a beautiful Sunday!
Alicia
Oh no, is he a Ute??!!
The Hungry Runner Girl
He is not… he accidentally packed a red shirt to wear after the wedding (we watched the game at his parents’ house). No one was very happy about it. BYU for life!
Alicia
Oh good! I was worried!!
Rachel P
Chocolate silk pie!!! I treat myself occasionally!
Love trail runs and I leave next to the Pisgah national forest so there’s plenty!
Also, while we were out this weekend we saw a which wich. Looked so good from your previous posts. So glad they came to a town near us! New favorite!
Kristin McPhie
I can’t help but notice that Andrew is wearing a red shirt during the game…was he cheering for theU?!?!
The Hungry Runner Girl
Do not worry, he isn’t… he just accidentally only brought a red shirt to wear after the wedding. Definitely a BYU fan.
Jon
I was oddly inspired by the last couple lines of yesterday’s post:
“See ya tomorrow morning mountains. My trail shoes are ready and my garmin is charged.”
…and told myself last night see you tomorrow Ventura…I’m ready and my Garmin is charged. Today I ran the Ventura (CA) half marathon and beat my HM PR by 5+ minutes! Thanks for the inspiration!
The Hungry Runner Girl
Okay, that makes me so so beyond happy! HUGE CONGRATS JON. You rocked it, that is an awesome PR!! WAY TO GO!!!
Amanda B @ Cupcakes and Miles
Wow! Those pics are so pretty! Utah is definitely on my list of places to visit.
I would be terrified to get lost out on a trail. This “number” system you mentioned sounds pretty ingenious.
Nathaly @NathyCure
I took a flight with Spirit this weekend and they had that same muffin brand. I tried the banana nut flavor and it was absolutely delicious.
I hit the trails once a week on my local park juts because I love it! I truly understand you when you say there is something on trail running that is good for your soul. I feel the exact same thing.
Victoria @ Minus Thirty Three
Not gonna lie, I don’t like pie either haha
Jane @ 50statecanuck
Oh thank god for Andrew – I have been feeling like I am the only one on the planet who doesn’t like pie. Pumpkin pie is the only one I’ll eat…and just the inside…I leave the crust on my plate! lol Just give me a hunk of milk chocolate and I’ll be happy.
christy
Just say no to pie!
Can I just say that you and Andrew are such a gorgeous couple!
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul
I want to dive into that pie bar!
Melissa
My husband and I honeymooned in Eden and thought it was just perfect. We still talk about retiring there someday. Pie Bar sounds like an awesome way to go. My sister just got married and had a cake bar where my sister made 6 different wedding sized cakes all different flavors. It was a dream…..kinda like Eden. ahhhh.
Taylor
I’m not a huge pie fan, but I do love pumpkin pie!! yum!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats
How cool! I grew up skiing in Deer Valley! Haven’t been since I was about 12… but I loved it!
Casey C.
Oh my gosh, Janae. I know this is an old post but I’ve been relying on your Salt Lake City and park city posts this week since my family is on a vacation to this area for the first time! We just went to this Mexican place yesterday after a hike to Bloods Lake! I love your recommendations!
