Off to California, Friday Favorites and YOUR Running Accomplishments!

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!  Brooke and I are headed to California for the weekend so she can visit her dad.  Some of the girls are coming along (yes, Andrew is probably already missing me like crazy;) to explore the Bay Area.  We will get back on Sunday night and then next week we will get to go to a cabin with my entire family (EVERYONE is flying in for it… we are never all together).  Andrew and Knox are coming and we will most definitely get to go on some sweet trail runs while we are at the cabin.

Until we get to the cabin I’ll just have to deal with these views while I run;)

Josse and I met up for an easy 8 miler up the canyon yesterday morning.  It was hot out but luckily the path was shaded for the majority of the run.

IMG 0186

You gotta do what you gotta do when the top fountain isn’t working.  It felt like it had been forever since our last run so the 67 minutes of miles together didn’t feel like enough to catch up on life.

IMG 0187

It never gets old to come home from a run to a ‘ridiculously excited to see you’ kiddo.

IMG 0183

We left my mom’s house and went to visit Mer (my grandma… my mom’s mom) with some of her favorite Oatmeal cookies.  We sure love that woman and her sense of humor is amazing.

IMG 0196

Brooke’s request for a day date yesterday afternoon was to go swimming.  While Brooke is LOVING the addition of a future step-dad and brother… it still is a transition for her to go from mom and brooke all of the time (aka my full attention 100% of the time) to a bigger family SO she takes these day dates together pretty seriously.

 IMG 0201

Last night we had a few wedding things to get done and then we celebrated Father’s Day since we will be out of town on Sunday.  We ordered Andrew’s favorite meal for dinner and kept it extra classy.

 IMG 0210

How the kids opened up his favorite candy… this is one way to do it I guess;)

IMG 0208

And then we finished off the night with a walk around the neighborhood.  (Pic from another night but those cheeks of hers ((moments after her telling us she wasn’t tired and moments before her falling asleep))

Just a few Friday Favorites to share with you today!!!

Favorite clothes lately:

*This red and white striped tee is my love right now… perfect for the 4th of July and super soft!

*Also love the black and ivory one too with a crewneck.   This t-shirt dress because comfort = greatness.

*I ended up finding my engagement pic dress at Old Navy (the ones I thought I wanted last week I didn’t love once I tried them on).  It is THIS ONE except for the one that I bought in the store had a tie in the back.  I’ll be posting the rest of our engagements next week wahoo!

IMG 0105

*I’ve started to get some swim cover-ups etc for our Mexico honeymoon—> this one, this one , a romper and some new wedges (Kork-Ease keep my runner’s feet happy).

*My favorite boutique is offering free shipping for the rest of the month to HRG readers:)  Use the code HUNGRYRUNNER !!

Brooke’s Friday favorite is this horse.  She took it everywhere with us for 48 hours straight.

 IMG 0081

*My favorite running song this week.

IMG 0085

*My favorite three foods together right now… bleu cheese, avocado and chicken.  Best bite ever:

Keep up your amazing running accomplishments… you guys are on fire!!! Send them in if you would like to be featured to [email protected]

———————————

Abigail!!! “On May 21st, I ran the Ogden Marathon for the second time! Little did I know, I would never have a marathon finish like this! I got engaged at the finish line!! The weather was horrible, hurricane-like winds and rain.  At mile 7 of the race, I was completely surprised to see my boyfriend and his family standing in the downpour with adorable signs that read, “As your race ends, our journey begins.”  The next 19 miles I went back and forth in my head if I was going to get engaged at the finish line— talk about the ultimate motivation!! The whole race I felt strong and luckily the weather started to clear up and stopped raining at about mile 20.  When I crossed the finish line, there he was with an absolutely adorable set-up with balloons and flowers and with both of our families around. I loved earning that Ogden Marathon medal and getting engaged was the best surprise I could’ve asked for! There was an endorphin overload for sure that day!”

Eva!!! “Over Memorial Day weekend I ran the Vermont City marathon!! It was my 4th one, and it was definitely one to remember! That weekend had record high temps and marathon morning started out almost 90 degrees with no cloud coverage (usually every year it’s raining in the 50s for this race).  I went into the race knowing that conditions were going to be really rough so I wasn’t even thinking about a PR.  By noon, the conditions turned to ‘black’ (whatever that means), and legally, the race officials had to call the race off. So there I was, just hit mile 24 and all of a sudden, the race is discontinued with no more official times and everyone is being told to walk or take a bus to the finish as there were no more medics available! Let’s just say you didn’t have to tell me twice to walk the rest of the way:)  Still awesome experience though, and hands down best crowd support I’ve witnessed on such a rough day!”

———————————

Clark!!! “I carved another minute off my 5k PR down to 24:50.  On June 4th, my 10 yo daughter and I raced, 5k for me and the kids’ race for her.  It was a hilly course but nice and cool weather.  A week later, June 11th, I did another 5k but temps and humidity were much higher.  I went out saying I was going to just go easy but before long I was racing along. Weirdly, completed the flat, but much hotter, course in exactly the same time, 24:50.  Considering the heat and the fact I only ran once between the two races I didn’t expect much different.  But it was good for a 3rd place AG medal.  This season I’m doing a marathon training plan but only plan on running 2-4 half marathons this fall.  Hoping to win the July lottery for a place in the April 2017 Big Sur 26.2!”

Alyssa!!! “I ran a 5k PB at an evening race on Friday! I’m super excited to be getting close to breaking 20 minutes- my official time was 20:32:)”  You can read her full awesome race recap HERE!

Kourtney!!! “My accomplishment is a mental barrier.  For months I have been telling myself to get back into shape.  I would say that I would, but it never happened; until last night.  I have finally taken that leap of faith to get back into fitness:””

———————————

Katrina!!! “When I started running almost 2 years ago, I never thought I would participate in a crazy relay race called the RAGNAR.  12 phenomenal team members, 2 top notch drivers, 36 intense hours and 200 crazy miles from Madison to Chicago! Not only did this race test our endurance and physical strength but also our mental strength, determination and grit! I could not have asked to have been a part of a better team! Mind Over Matter is nothing short of incredible! It will bind us together in a way like no other.  We are part of the staff at the Plymouth School Distract, in Plymouth Wisconsin.  We raised over 2000.— for the Student help fund.  We help students that are not able to afford basic needs to participate in sports & school activities.”

Christina!!! “Last Sunday I ran my first Garden of the Gods 20 Mile race! What a beautiful course and weather that day.  Hills galore (sigh…) and an elevation of 1200+ feet starting at around 6400 feet.  Finished in 2:01. Was hoping to be under 2 hours but the pit stop ruined that.;)”

I can’t wait to see the rest of your pictures because that one is so gorgeous! You look happier than ever Janae :)

This week I’m excited for a race, a group run with my friends, and dinner with my family for Father’s Day! Have a great time in Cali!

We live just around the corner from my niece and nephews, anytime I walk with my 3 year old nephew, he always wants to run with me. When we get home, he tells his mom and dad “we just ran for 30 minutes!” Not quite buddy, it was maybe 3 minutes!

I’m super excited to sleep in this weekend! This week has gone fast but it’s not involved as much sleep as I need to function normally!

I love that your family is renting a cabin and can all be together! My family is doing the same over July 4th weekend, but one of my sisters can’t make it!

This Sunday I will be running the local Girls on the Run 5k with my boyfriend and his two daughters (11 and 13). The younger one is fast so he will stay with her and I’ll run with his older one. I love that we can run these kind of races as a family.

I’ve done 4 Ragnar relays. I’m done with them. Lack of sleep makes me a terrible person to share a van with lol.

I’m looking forward to froyo and the pool this weekend!! And sleep. Lots of sleep.

I’ve never done a Ragnar, but I did the Texas Independence Relay twice–SUCH a blast!

Your engagement pic is beautiful and you both look so happy. Utah sure does provide some nice scenery for pictures! Have a great weekend in Cali with the girls!

This weekend I’m looking forward to sleeping in a bit. I’ve been really tired the last day or so. I hope this isn’t cumulative fatigue setting in already since I’m only a couple of weeks into my chicago training plan, haha! I think it’s just been that my allergies are bad and I’m not sleeping well because I wake up to sneeze 10x a night, argh!

The first Ragnar I did literally changed my life. I’m not Mormon, but my best friend (since 6th grade!) is, and she invited me to do SoCal Ragnar with her and some girls from church. We were “all the single ladies” and had Beyonce blasting the entire two days. It was the MOST fun I had had in years–I was in a bad relationship, not loving much about my life and felt like I had lost a lot of my friends because of it. The weekend completely turned things around for me, maybe it was the delirium or just being around an amazing group of women, but I realized that there were better people out there, that I hadn’t been running like I used to and that I could really be happy again! So Ragnar, yes. Best thing ever!!
I’ve heard Salt and Spoon is amazing in the Bay Area.

Your engagement photo is beautiful and you both look so happy! This weekend is about rest. Usually weekends are about hiking and running, but my hamstring needs rest since I tweaked it.

I’ve always wanted to do a Ragnar race but haven’t been able to do so yet. Have fun in California!

No kids for us yet, but we do have a supe enthusiastic golden retriever, Brooks, who runs with us every now and then. He has some pacing troubles. Haha. I am doing a 5K this weekend at the beach, which will be followed by some time on the water with friends, so I am pretty excited about that! I live in a way different “Bay Area” than the one you are talking about, BUT if you ever find yourself in the bay area in Alabama, we do have some awesome local ice cream spots :) I’ve done 3 Ragnars and they are INCREDIBLE! I could go on and on and on about how much fun they are! We just did Ragnar TN about a month ago (here is my recap if anyone is interested https://mobilebayrunner.com/2016/05/17/race-recap-ragnar-tn-last-to-start-first-to-finish/). Have a great weekend!

I want to do Ragnar so bad! My oldest likes to run with me. She’s going to be 5 soon but hasn’t done any races yet.

Reply

I don’t have kids (still young) but I consider my dog to be my child and she runs with me haha
I’m looking forward to dog sitting and cat sitting as well as (hopefully) running my 10 mile race Sunday… going to see how I feel because my legs been kinda sore

Hooray for Cali! Hooray for that bite of salad! (P.S. I want that for lunch now.) Have fun!

Spending the weekend at my boyfriend’s parent’s house … Kind of excited cause they have a beautiful house on a lake and the weather is going to be perfect … But way more anxious because I’ve only met them once before !

Yikes … Wish me luck!

That sounds PERFECT!!! Enjoy and good luck but they will LOVE YOU!!! I can already tell:)

Thank you!! Have fun in Cali!!

How is the sizing in the two madewell tshirts?

Reply

I got an XS in both of those t-shirts!!! I usually wear a small so they run a little big but I think they are also supposed to be a little loose! Let me know if you get them and what you think! Enjoy the rest of your Friday Jen!

Reply

I live in San Rafael and will be in SF (15 miles from my house and where my boyfriend of 2 years lives) so if a crazy blonde girl with a little black dog spots you and runs up – don’t be surprised LOL!

Reply

You and Andrew need to be models for a huge dentist franchise or something because you both have white teeth for DAYZZZZ. :) Your dress is beautiful! Blended families ROCK! Woohoo!!!

Reply

Oh you are the sweetest! Thank you Suzy! We really do feel like this blended family business is the best bonus ever. Stoked!! Enjoy the weekend!

The Ice Cream Bar is the best ice cream place I’ve tried in the bay area (and I’ve tried a lot). It’s in San Francisco in Cole Valley.
Their dark chocolate ice cream is my favorite, but all of their flavors are truly great. They made a watermelon sorbet last year that everyone that tried it is still dreaming about. My husband and I actually like their ice cream so much we had it at our wedding instead of cake. It’s an awesome place.

Reply

I just looked it up… um that looks beyond incredible. I LOVE that you had it at your wedding. Done and done. THANKS ASHLEY (ps I like ice cream way more than cake too:) Enjoy your weekend and thanks for the tip!

Enjoy your weekend too!

I have been eyeing up the every day dress from Roolee since you posted about it before and now with free shipping, I’m excited to purchase it. But I was curious what size you wear? I see smalls are out of stock and that is typically what I wear so curious how small the dress runs? Thank you!

Reply

HEY ERIN! Oh I am in love with that dress! I wear a small but it is kind of tight and I think I could wear a medium too and it would fit great. It’s a very stretchy dress so it might just work. If not email me and I can email them to see if they will be getting more in stock!!!

Which resort did you choose?! As your favorite travel agent blogger friend I am recommending the Secrets Maroma for an anniversary trip. I personally visit hotels in various destinations several times a year and this one is HANDS DOWN the best in the area. The food is to die for, the beach is one of the best (sand like powdered sugar), and your amenities will be top notch. I hope your honeymoon is everything and more :) you deserve the best!

Reply

AHHHHH we didn’t do the Secrets Maroma one dang it. I guess we will have to do our one year there. I should have asked you first!!! Now I’m looking forward to that one next ahah! Thanks Devin and I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Wow your engagement picture is beautiful, so happy for you.

Who has a kiddo that runs with them? Have they done any races with you? – Yes, I have a kiddo who likes to run with me. He did his first 5K with me in 2014 for the Lupus 5K since I have Lupus – he ran the entire thing with me!! It was bittersweet because his first time running a 5K at it was that race, pretty special!

What are you looking forward to this weekend? – Fathers Day seeing Finding Dory with my Dad (his idea too!) – he said that all the other girls would be their with their daddies :)

Bi-Rite is definitely the most famous ice cream place in SF! https://www.yelp.com/biz/bi-rite-creamery-san-francisco. Grab a scoop of their salted caramel and relax in Dolores Park :) It’s always fun to see your adventures in my hometown area!

Do you have a list of your running songs? I need to update my playlist! :)

Knox is such a cute name. I think I fall in love with it more and more each time I see it on your blog! I love that you’re continuing to focus in on your personal time with Brooke. That girl sure is lucky to have you as a mom.

a huge congratulations to Abigail and her new engagement!

My oldest son (14) runs with me, well ran with me, he has gotten too fast now. Last spring he ran the Cellcom Green Bay Half Marathon with me, his first. We have also done several local 5k’s and just casual weekend runs together. I love the time we spend chatting during our runs – I will cherish those memories forever!

I did a Ragnar race 2 years ago (Chicago), and had the best time EVER!! We are already looking to get a team together for another one next year. This race has to be one of the most fun races, and the experience alone is awesome! I was lucky to do the race with some great friends that I had not seen in awhile – what better way to catch up?

And lastly, I love the engagement picture!!

go to Dolce Spazio in Los Gatos for gelato.. the best!!

My middle son, Braden, (he’s 10) has done 3 5ks with me and he is currently running summer xc practice that I am coaching. There is almost nothing better than having something like this in common!

The hubs and I are celebrating our 16th anniversary today and we are off to Europe sans kids tomorrow!!

Have fun in Cali!!

Reply

I love that picture of you two! So sweet! And love Brooke’s sleepy face even though she says she isn’t tired lol

Reply

Ragnar is amazing! The thrill of a van load of friends cheering for you. The challenge of running 11 miles in the rain (for example) at 3AM. Comradarie, rivalry ( with the other teams). People watching. Outrageous outfits. An incredible experience. Go for it.

Reply

Maybe you can explain to me how “Go get it” is your favorite running song. Have you listened to the lyrics.? They are truly nasty.
Just curious how you reconcile your faith and staying pure and listening to lyrics like that in your ears every day. I am not criticizing, I am actually genuinely curious as a Non-Mormon how listening to lyric like that line up with your faith?

Love your engagement picture!! can’t wait to see the rest!
