SENTENCE PER PICTURE DAY!!!

Summer running clothes are here (and year round I wear a tank and shorts on the treadmill)—> I loved trying out this tank and these shorts for my 8 miles yesterday.

Love the little Run Happy detail on the inside too—>  the tank is crazy soft (I want every color), comfortable and you barely feel like you are wearing it (plus chafe-free and seamless makes my body extremely happy) and the shorts are really comfortable too but next time I’ll go with the 5” instead of 3”!

Post run snack eaten in the car—>  I am very grateful for my car food stash because I was hangry (not an exaggeration) at this point.

Families that stretch together, stay injury-free together.

IMG 7276

We both get really excited over free stuff and this water bottle and chapstick made her Wednesday a great one.

IMG 7273

Eating Fresh Mex salads together has been our thing since 2010.

IMG 7286

I’ve lost approximately 7 today.

IMG 7292

Also, this…. well, me and my best friend and my mom and my sister;)

I met my newest nephew (his hair reminds me of Brooke’s when she was a newborn)!!!!

IMG 7336

A trip up north and Brooke made some very serious/important phone calls on the way.

IMG 7314

She then spent hours (literally, hours) planting a garden in the sandbox.

IMG 7332

Rootbeer floats need to be in my life more often.

IMG 7327

Going to bootcamp tonight and I am betting money I will be sore for at least a week afterwards.

IMG 7184

Off to California again this weekend to take Brooke to her dad… I need to find a killer trail run to do this Saturday.

IT IS YOUR LAST DAY TO GET YOUR TANK!!!! You know you want it!!!

Ran 4 miles which is really all I’m doing lately. Yoga on the agenda too! Your hair looks so perfect in that car picture!

I’m a big fan of the Kind Bars with coconut and almond – I’m allergic to most nuts so its one of the few I can have. I have always thought it tasted a bit like a rice krispie treat and so I ended up making rice krispies with coconut oil instead of butter and its pretty fantastic. Well, if you like coconut it is!

Today is likely going to be a rest day. I’d like to fit something in and I’ll do my best but the day is filling up fast! My sentence of the day is Why did I go to bed so late last night!?

Reply

How do you go about substituting the oil for butter? Rice krispy treats with coconut oil sounds tasty!

Reply

I use just slightly less coconut oil than butter, but I don’t measure anything (sorry!) I usually just go by texture and see if it needs more coconut oil or marshmallows.

Reply

I usually do a 1-1 ratio of coconut oil with butter. I always just assumed I could sub if the butter was melted. :)

My sentence for the day: Please pray that I kick this cold out of my body quickly! I thought I was really good about using hand sanitizer while I was on vacation but I seemed to have brought home some germs.

Have fun at your strength class! I haven’t lifted in about a week, but my body has been so jet lagged and ill since we got home I can’t even think about it right now! Lift for me too, today! :)

Packing up my entire life- sentence for the day! I’m moving into my own house this weekend so it’s pack pack pack (I’ll be singing that to the tune of Rihanna’s Work all weekend!) That’s also my weekend plans, as well as new house stuff like painting and landscaping fun!

Safe travels :)

And now I need a root beer float so, thanks!

Like you said, I generally like longer tank tops as well. I like them to be long enough to go down just below the hips.

I’m going up to Jersey City this weekend to race which I’m excited for. I haven’t been up that way in quite some time.

Reply

Hangriness is definitely a real thing. I keep Wheat Thins in my car at all times. :)

Sentence for the day: If homeboy doesn’t ask me out soon, I might have to do something bold.

Reply

Sentence of the day: Plopped myself on the treadmill for some easy miles then going to a track meet to raise money for the Alzteimers Foundation. Service+Track Meet+ swindling Mitch into bringing me Chipotle = win.

Reply

I really like those shorts and top! I have a 10k trail race this weekend which should be interesting since I haven’t run more than 4 miles since my marathon, lol. On the agenda today, as long as the rain clears up, is a fun run to all of the free attractions here in St. Louis (Zoo, Science Center, Art Museum, History Museum) before flying back out west!

Reply

I’m planning on a little bit of elliptical work for today. I’m down to working out mostly once a week and it’s not ok.

One time I thought it was a great idea to keep treats in my car. And then they melted in the heat. :( how do you keep your snacks from melting or being ruined in the car?

Reply

I prefer longer tanks also, which are hard to find since I’m tall! Today I’m hoping that one more day of rest heals up my foot so I can resume running – marathon training on the elliptical is not ideal and I can only tolerate an hour on that thing!

Reply

Hangry is my normal mood. I think I’m just one of those people that is hungry all the time. Good thing I run.
Got my shirt Monday! Can’t wait to rock it at the gym!

Reply

Best bay area running….. Los Gatos. Head up Jones….for shorter6ish…loop, or up Lime Kilm….to the very top for longer 10ish loop. You won’t regret views. And you’ll miss glorious California more….heheeee

Reply

Ohhh those salads look delish! I had a killer run this morning. So glad it’s finally sunny and getting warmer!

Reply

I did my first run after my injury today! one whole mile in a tad under 9 minutes but I’ll take it. spending the rest of the day with ankle up & iced just in case.

I’ve been focusing more on strength work during this time off period and it is bringing on a whole new world of sore. It’s been a challenge, but I’m hoping it pays off in the long run.

Reply

Trails I’ve tried:
Los Gatos Creek Trail (the paved section or where it hooks onto the dam path/up the mountain around Mt Joseph)
Hellyer County Park/Coyote Creek Trail goes forever (paved)
Baylands Park & trails – north section winds around the edge of the Bay, mix of paved/dirt (Sunnyvale/Mtn View)
Sanborn County Park – traditional dirt trails
Almaden Lake Park – paved

Ones I haven’t tried yet but come highly recommended:
Guadalupe River Trail (paved, I think); Rancho San Antonio (dirt, I think); Fremont Older Open Space (dirt, I think)

This weekend I have a 12 mile run planned. My last long run before my half next weekend! Having snacks in your car is key.. I always have like 3 granola bars in my purse at all times!

Reply

I’ve been doing a lot of hip, glute and core work the past few days. My hip is too sore to run at the moment. I’ll add in the elliptical if it goes on longer. I have a half on the 21st that I really want to run so I’m hoping this eases up.

Today is train like a contender. I love it. Full body workout with weighted gloves and I follow it up with 30 minutes of Barre.

I love SF and ran the Nike Women half a few years ago. Great hill training. :) Mariposa Bakery specializes in gluten-free and they did this amazing pop-tart filled with fresh peaches. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever eaten, gluten-free or not.

Sentence for the day: The sun in shining and it finally feels like spring!

Why not do Bay to Breakers on Sunday?

Reply

i cant wait to see what trail you find when in cali, that area is supposed to be really pretty although i’ve never been. that pic of the golden gate bridge is so pretty! all the times i’ve been the fog has been too heavy to get a clear picture you totally lucked out!

I don’t have advice for a trail run but go to THE MILL and have the most amazing sourdough bread you will ever have in your life! :)

Hi Janae!

I’m wondering what your thoughts are on the Pure Cadence 4s. I know you reviewed them, but my tongue is slipping down to the lateral side for both of the shoes. I normally don’t care about that, but it’s causing a major chafe spot on the top of my metatarsal. I used those special holes to lace them up, and it’s still chafing. I’m curious if you have the same issue! :) (I usually race halves, fulls in the Pures, but now am having second thoughts!)

Reply

Hey Beth!! I have not had that problem at all! I am truly so sorry! Let me contact Brooks to see if this has happened to others!

Reply

San Franciscoite here. Bay to Breakers is this Sunday, you could do that instead! Best /craziest race ever. Just make sure you are in the early correl. If you have your heart set on Saturday running/trail go to the Marin Headlands. My favorite is the Rodeo Trail or the general favorite is Hawk Hill. They both have amazing views and are a really good time! Have fun! I

PS I second the suggestion about The Mill. It is blocks from my house and I spend too much money on expensive toast but I love it.

Reply

I really want to try bootcamp!

I’m biased to the LG trail because I run it all the time.. but try Rancho San Antonio if you haven’t been.

My sentence is “Humidity is the worst”. I ran this morning, just shy of 3 miles, I overestimated a loop near my house, and was drenched in sweat.

I’m signed up for a 5K this weekend & it will be the first I’ve done in a while, so I hope the humidity holds off. I have a goal to break 25 minutes this year.

Hi Janae,

I live in Menlo Park, which is right next to Palo Alto. I used to run at Wunderlich Park in Woodside (4040 Woodside Road, VERY close to Menlo Park/Palo Alto). One of the trails (the Alambique, I think) takes you five miles up, up, up a huge hill to Skyline Blvd., then you get to go five miles down that same hill. :) It is gorgeous and a terrific workout! I would offer to meet you there, but I haven’t run in a while (I swim now because running is very hard on my GI system and because swimming is just more convenient in the season of life I’m in right now). Some friends have run at Huddart Park, too, and Windy Hill is very nice. Wunderlich is my all time favorite, though. I hope you try it!

I hope you have safe, smooth travels and a wonderful trip!
Mary

Check out Rancho San Antonio. the PG&E trail is killer! Wunderlich County Park and Huddart Park have some great running too. Hills for days.

Sentence for the day: The distance from my office to my house is a few miles short of a marathon!

I’m hoping to get in a good long walk with the dog tonight after work.

And Saturday I’m hoping to run about 5 or 6 miles.

I did HIIT today with a spin bike and my legs are gonna be killing me tomorrow for sure! I’m loving that Brooks tank. I’ve been looking for some new ones. A few of mine have gotten old and gross.

If you’re looking for a classic SF/ Marin Headlands trail run while in Cali run the Ninja Loop! 2,500ft of climbing (total) over 11.5 miles. Starts in the NW parking lot of the GGB.

What is your sentence for the day? Almost the weekend ..almost the weekend.

Did hill repeats yesterday (yuck) so today is just abs, hip strengthening (helps with IT) an a few wall sits.
Camping with 40 Girls Guides. Will find a run in the area!

Reply

Sentence for the day: Hope I didn’t bomb that phone interview as badly as I think I did. :( Phone interviews are the worst.

Workout this morning was an early Spin class but took it on the easy side since I donated blood yesterday and I always get a little woozy if I do too much the day after. Yes, I do schedule blood donations around my running schedule!

“Running” a 5-mile pub crawl tomorrow night with my SIL and friends. It’s a ton of fun!

Reply

Oh they really are the worst but I’m sure you rocked it!! Have so much fun on your pub crawl!!!

Thank you- I hope so! :)

Come run Bay To Breakers!

That pink shirt is so pretty. I wish that it weren’t $45, though!

I’ve lived in the East Bay for 9 years, so I have a great suggestion for you to make your train run on–and it’s a trail that I only discovered this past weekend: Lands End. You park in the same parking lot as the Sutro Baths (by the Cliff House) and you take the trail that follows the coastline. It’s like running in paradise! Great views of the Golden Gate. I’ve been hiking all over the bay area, and this little trail went right to the top.

Reply

You could run at “the dish” near Stanford or at the Windy Hill Open Space in Palo Alto. Best trail running is in the Marin Headlands though!

Reply

Your nephew’s hair totally reminds me of Brooke’s hair when you called her spikey haha! I love it! :) And I hear ya on losing arguments with your kiddo ha. I lose them all day long hehe.

love your hair!!
