Tuesday Tangents!!!

First, wow.  Thank you so much for opening up about your experiences and thoughts about some pretty deep stuff yesterday.  I learn and gain so much from each comment/email and I can’t thank you enough for sharing your stories with me.

We’ve got some Tangents to discuss today because I have about 20 pictures/stories/thoughts that I haven’t shared with you yet from the last few days and that is just unacceptable.

**Yesterday was a 3 mile treadmill run with some weights afterwards.  My goodness, my training lately is a whole lot different than it has been in a very long time but I’m hoping I will be able to ramp things up again soon but as we all know… there are times and seasons for training hard/easy/slow/fast and you just gotta do your best with where you are at now.

IMG 1702

**We went straight to the duck pond after the workout and Brooke wasn’t excited about it or anything.

IMG 1716

**Brooke and all of her boyfriends.  I really need to start taking notes… she is quite the charmer.

IMG 1717

**Sunday night we were on the couch eating Wheat Thins and talking.  After she didn’t respond to one of my questions I looked over and she was completely out with part of a cracker still in her hand.  I guess I could take note from this—>  find more interesting topics to discuss;)

IMG 1692

**We are full swing into ice cream again lately and the combination of GSC just takes it to the next level.  We were extra creative and added magic shell to the thin mint one and yeah, that was one of our better life decisions.

IMG 1690

**Post ice-cream picture from last week.

IMG 6338

**Our fridge is pretty much empty right now in preparation to move and so now I am resorting to eating frozen Go-Gurts for snacks.  Okay, they are actually pretty good frozen.

IMG 1679

**She came into my room with a birthday card that she made (definitely not my birthday but I will take a card from her any day) and she even wrote mom without any help.  I was pretty excited about it (and took 2 dozen pictures of it because that is the normal reaction).

IMG 6349

**We started a book club so that is pretty exciting.  My last book club was way back when I lived in California with my friends there and it was one of my biggest highlights each month.

IMG 1724

**I was tagged in this post yesterday on instagram… I MUST TRY THIS TREADMILL OUT ASAP.  How amazing!!

IMG 1693

**Just Brooke doing another incredibly realistic animal impersonation… she is showing me how a dog scratches their ears.

IMG 1686

**I had a few people ask about what type of curling iron I was using in a post from a few days ago—> It is an InStyler.  My mom gave me and my sister one a few years ago for Christmas and we have both used ours daily (well… anytime we actually do our hair) ever since then.

**Kodiak Cakes pancakes for dinner last night after getting some more packing done… I even went overboard on my creativity with the smiley face.

IMG 6350 1

**I’m officially ready for March now that I have my St. Patrick’s Day running socks from Brooks.

Falling asleep with a half eaten cracker is too cute :) Anything samoa will always have my heart – that ice cream!

I’m racing on the 27th! I’m excited for the race but I’m also excited for it to be done. There’s been so much stuff going on that training for a race is just one less thing I will have to worry about! But until then, I’m going to try my best to enjoy every minute of my runs! I’ve got a 40 minute easy run today after work! 9 hours and counting…

Not in a book club, but one of the best books I’ve read recently is Me Before You (and After You, but the first was better).

Reply

loved those books and agreed the first was better!

Reply

The second was still really good, I just really LOVED the first!

I’m going out for 4-5 easy miles. I’m so sore from skiing on Sunday I need to just loosen up. Especially the back and hips.
No March races this year. But I have a 10 mile race the first weekend in April.
I have fallen asleep with cookies before. Just swap out those wheat thins for Oreos. Lol.

Reply

I’m still trying to get back in shape after being sidelined for a bit in January, so I probably won’t race again until April. But there’s a fun St. Patty’s race in two weeks!

I definitely recommend For the Love by Jen Hatmaker if you haven’t already read it. Also, Annie Downs is coming out with a new book next month called Looking for Lovely, and you can pre-order it now.

Reply

No run scheduled for me today, but I made it to the gym this morning to do some strength training – upper body & abs.

I’ve never been in a book club but I love to read. I finally joined the library in my town this weekend so I’m going to see if they have any book clubs that I could join.

That is the best treadmill I’ve ever seen! You could do a group run on that thing!

Reply

I love reading too. I’ve tried book clubs but my problem is at the end of a long work day / workout, I’d rather just curl up and type my thoughts. There should be a book club run similar to how runchat is. :)

Brooke’s smiles say a thousand words ;-) Today’s workout was 5 miles, incl. 3 x 1600m @ 5k pace with 60 rec. in between. Short and sweet but with sweat in my eyeballs… always a good sign ;-)

Reply

Hi Janae what are your thoughts on the Brooke’s launch 3’s before I invest?
Thanks xxx

LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM!!! It is pretty much all I wear right now (unless I’m trail running). My full review is here:

I had my March race this past weekend! I ran a huge PR in the half so today’s workout is just Pilates, I always take a couple days off after a big race.
Brooke is too adorable how she feel asleep!

Reply

My running friends and I started a book club last March. It ended there also. We all read the book but never followed up on it. Don’t be like us!

Reply

OOO, that ice cream!

How do you get all your socks from Brooks? Is it a membership deal?

Good luck on your move! As a 15-year-old, whose lived in 3 countries, 14 houses, and 2 states, I feel you.

Track starts next week! Super excited!

Reply

I have a half marathon coming up in two weeks! It’s supposed to be a St Patty’s theme with keg stand and jello shot water stations (I’ll skip those) and green beer at the end! Should be interesting :)

Workout today is an easy 3 miles with a core workout after.

Reply

I love that treadmill! How cool! My workout today was a speed workout run under the assumption that I’m now training for my next half on May 1! And you reminded me of the time I stopped buying the go gurts after the one that my son seemed to squirt up to my kitchen ceiling. Blue yogurt was not pretty!

Reply

Brooke has the prettiest eyes! I’ve been known to fall asleep eating too so I don’t blame her for the wheat thin picture! I’m gearing up for a half marathon in the first week of April so no races in March although I do go to a pub run every year with our Fleet Feet. I’m loving your Brooks socks this month!

Reply

Ohhh wheat thins! It has been way too long since I’ve had some!

Reply

No March races for me, but my first Boston is next month :) Hit the roads for 7 miles this morning, was a little slow because my legs are still tired from my 18-miler over the weekend!

I just read “Stir” by Jessica Fechtor. It’s a great memoir about one woman’s journey through a difficult time and how food and cooking helped her heal during that time. Food solves all problems :)

Reply

AHHHH so stoked for you to run Boston!!! You are going to have the time of your life! I can’t wait to check out Stir… thank you for the recommendation! It sounds perfect for me:)

Reply

Hi Janae!!
My half marathon is actually on St. Pat weekend!! Awesome!!! I need a pair of those socks!

Reply

AHHHH GOOD LUCK ELLEN!!! You are going to rock your 1/2 marathon!

Reply

Thanks Janae!!!

Running my second St. Pats 5K in about 2 weeks. This race will mark a full year of running for me. I’m a newbie. Easy 3 mile run today.

I highly recommend these books for your book club: An American Childhood by Annie Dillard is a wonderful book about growing up in Pittsburgh. Another is Uncle Tungsten by Oliver Sacks. Fascinating account of his childhood and interest in science.

Reply

I’m running the Shamrock Shuffle in Chicago in a few weeks! Just got a green tank so I’m all set.

I just joined a book club with people from work and we just started The Outliers. I’m not super far into it yet, but def a book to make you think!

Reply

There is a St Patricks Day race here in Ottawa, but not sure if I’m going to go to it. Today’s workout is 5K, yay fun!

Reply

a great book club book is the girl on the train. a quick read and so captivating. I loved every minute. Plus they’re making it into a movie which is always a good sign.

today’s workout was an hour of cross training and some weights. went in feeling so sleepy but came out on top of the world. funny how that always works.

Reply

We had a little duck pond in our neighborhood growing up that I used to love going to! My mom and I would always walk down there with a bag of cereal to go “feed the duckies.” So much fun!

Just got done with an early morning 6-miler at an 8:31 pace! Thinking about running a Leprechaun 8K this weekend in Chicago!

Reply

Hahaha I love the pictures of Brooke falling asleep and with ice cream on her face. So cute! I’m not in any book clubs but I love to read so much. I think it’s actually something on my bucket list- to join a book club one day haha.

Reply

Feeding the ducks and going to the park are 2 of my hits favorite things. The second spring starts showing they are constantly begging to go.

Today is a running day for me. Probably after kids are in bed.

Reply

Love the picture of brooke asleep with the cracker in her hand and the one of the ice cream all over her face! too funny!!! I didn’t know there was girl scout cookie ice cream?!!?

Reply

To be honest, the worst part of moving was the lack of food at the end. It was always hard right? I would feel guilty not eating certain stuff but realized donating it was the best option for everyone.

Reply

I’m carb cycling right now and it’s a FEAST day so I’m doing a total body workout that starts off with 100 push-ups. My arms are jello the rest of the week.

Reply

There’s a St. Pat’s 5K the day before my half-marathon. I don’t think I’ll do the 5K because I’ll want to run it fast.

Speed training tonight with my coach and teammates.

I haven’t been to my book club in a while, it was too hard with my husband being sick. We have read some really good books, such as Me Before You by JoJo Moyes. There were some stinkers too, or maybe they just weren’t to my taste. :)

Reply

That treadmill is INSANE!!! I want one :)

I just noticed how much your oldest niece looks like you!! Lucky girl :) Very pretty girls in your family!

I was hoping to go to the track with a friend after work, but the weather is awful today…heavy rain, hail, tornado warnings. Looks like a good day to go to they gym.

Reply

‘These is my words’ is always the book I recommend to people and everyone who has taken my suggestion has not regretted it ;)

Also, I wonder if there was a filter used in that treadmill picture??

Give me all that ice cream!

Reply

Have you tried the Cookie Butter Ice Cream from Trader Joe’s?! I know how much you love ice cream and TJ’s, so I think you would like it!

Reply

Haha…I totally fell asleep eating and reading last night!

Reply

Omg that treadmill is awesome!! Could have a group run right there lol!!

Today I have a speed workout to do, kinda nervous about it.

Reply

YOU’VE GOT THIS LAURA (unless you already did your speed workout…I’m sure you rocked it:)

Reply

the random birthday card is the best. so cute.

Reply

We have a large treadmill like that up at the college. I did a VO2 Max test on it a couple years ago. Seriously, I did not know what to do with all of that room!

I had a March race a couple days ago… still contemplating on whether or not I will do a St. Patti’s Day run. Too much racing can burn me out and I have a full schedule in April and May. :)

Today I have a 28 mile bike ride and 3 mile run on my schedule. Looking forward to it this afternoon!

Reply

That huge treadmill is so cool, I’ve never seen one like it! So perfect for group runs during the winter when it’s too cold/slippery to run outside. Not that I would know anything about that living in South Florida, but from reading run blogs I know that’s a thing that happens in other parts of the country :)

Reply

That treadmill is crazy!! I didn’t even know those things existed!

My workout today will be an easy run and then arms cuz I gotta get buff (where’s that flexing arm emoji when you need it?!)

Reply

That treadmill is awesome!!

No St. Patty’s race planned but will be walking in the parade with my daughter’s Girl Scout troop.

Training for a half but missed yesterday and will miss today’s planned workouts because my daughter is sick. No treadmill at home :( but will do some strength training at home.

Reply

Also currently packing to move out in 3 days! Ahh. SO much to do. I love the photo of Brooke asleep with her cracker. My family has a “famous” photo of me when I was 3 at Christmastime asleep at the table with my mouth against the plate and a strawberry just about an inch away. It’s these photos that are the best after 20 years ;)

Reply

I am not participating in any March themed races this year, however I am running a 5K on the 19th which I am excited about!

I would highly recommend the book A Man Named Ove – made me cry but in a good way!

My workout today was a 3 mile run this morning before work! It was 50 degrees in Wisconsin too this morning, which is pretty much summer, so I was super happy and loving it. Oh, and the new town is much hillier (is that a word?) than Green Bay and my hometown – they were so flat compared to where I run now!!

Reply

That treadmill though!! WOW. so cool I want to try that. Also GSC ice cream??? BRILLIANT.

Reply

That treadmill!!!!! Group runs could totally get interesting on that thing. So cool. Happy Tuesday. xo

Reply

Workout is 3 KM, 2 KM, 1 KM at 5 KM race pace on the nicest day Canada has seen in ages!

Reply

What book is your club doing first?! Loved all of the suggestions in the comments too.

Reply

What Alice Forgot! I actually read this book awhile back but they were pretty stoked about it so I’m going to read it again:) I loved it the first time around!

Reply

Born to Run by McDougall…but you probably already read it.

Reply

Thank you for touching on such a sensitive subject yesterday – I think every single mom could relate to your pain. The plus side – every day and night is girl’s time and what’s better that!! You are doing a great job and there is someone special out there for you – I know it!

Reply

Thank you SO much Allison. That means a lot and you are so right… girls’ day/night all of the time is the best!

Reply

I wish was racing or doing a fun run this month so I could wear fun socks like those. I did a barre3 DVD this morning and have a tempo run on tap for tomorrow. Those ice cream flavors look incredible!

Reply

Ok if I had a treadmill that big I’d probably run on it. I just hate how confined I feel now when I’m in one which means you’ll never find me on one!

I just ran the Napa Valley marathon Sunday. Back to training tomorrow. I have a Leprechaun chase 5k on Sunday and a half marathon on the 19th. Then it’s 5 more wks of training for Big Sur before I become a fair weather leisure runner.

Me Before You by jojo Moyos is the best! Movie comes out soon. Read it!

St. Patrick’s themed race coming up this weekend- Shamrockin’ 8K. Always a fun time and a beautiful course through uptown New Orleans. The elites run a 3-lap course through the post-race party and it’s so cool to watch them. Great prize purse so they attract some amazing talent!

I did PiYo this morning and it sucked my soul. I think I’m not getting what I am looking for out of that class. Time to move on!

Reply

My goodness Brooke is so cute. Can’t decide if I like the duck pond picture or the post-ice cream picture more!

My earliest class today was canceled, so I had time for a long run… 14 miles, followed by some core work, which I really need to do more regularly.

Reply

Book club! We alternate between non fiction and fiction to mix it up a bit. It’s so fun! Reading non fiction book: Rosemary the Hidden Kennedy…wow it’s good and eye opening.
Deciding trader joes first or run first hmm

Reply

OMG I need to find that ice cream!

I do a monthly recap of books I read on the blog. Lots of good books I have read! Wildflower by Drew Barrymore, Strong Looks Better Naked by Khloe Kardashian, Me Before You by JoJo Moyes, Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert, Mile Markers by Kristin Armstrong, Running Like a Girl by Alexandra Heminsley, Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty and so many more!

Reply

I would love to see how you use the Instyler, well more how you put your hair into it? I have one side that looks great and the other not as good. Any tips would be awesome!!

Reply

HEY ANDREA!! I did a video of how I do my hair with it here:

I hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions!

Reply

I love how Brooke made you a card! What a sweetie!! I don’t have any March races, but my goal is to continue running with this pregnancy as long as it feels good. :) Today my workout was a 3 mile run, cool down on the elliptical, and then some strength training .:)

Reply

Running the rocking shamrock half marathon this Sunday, my first race in a year! Hoping to PR, I am in the middle of marathon training right now and this will help me to gage my fitness for my upcoming May marathon!
Ran 8 miles today with 25 min of tempo.

Please tell me what the lovely beige lipstick you’ve been waiting lately is!!

Race for March is a 25k trail race!

Yay for photo updates! And I need some boyfriend-finding notes from Brooke too – I think she just has no fear of rejection and just goes for it!

I am obsessed with your posts. You are so down to earth, and honest which is hard to find on blogs anymore. Also where did you get your cute shirt in these pics from? The white and maroon striped one! You have the best style! #goals

What’s your book club book?! Will you put reviews on the blog? I was trying to start a book club but it fizzled but you’ve inspired me to try again!!
