Our date before she leaves and YOUR RUNNING ACCOMPLISHMENTS!!!!

She is definitely my child.  Brooke, the donut pillow does in fact make an excellent hat.

We haven’t eaten out in a few days.  The employees of the three restaurants we go to on repeat around here must be worried sick about us because they haven’t seen us lately.

Last night we had chicken (I baked mine with pesto on top from TJ’s and Brooke’s was plain because that is the only way she will eat it), sweet potato fries and roasted broccoli.

IMG 2407

Brooke will be leaving with her dad tomorrow so I always like to go on a special ‘date’ together the night before she leaves.  PS during spring/summer I wear dresses pretty much every day and this Everyday Dress in Black is crazy comfortable.

I’m glad Brooke brought her toy kitchen knife to keep us safe as we roamed downtown Provo together at sunset.

After some exploring we stopped at Yogurtland on the way home and ate our froyo with a movie.  I’m going to miss that little chickadee.

IMG 2432

Oh, and then I had this afterwards because I needed something crunchy.

IMG 2392

While Brooke is gone I am going to be busy decorating her room (including a big girl bed) to surprise her with for when she gets home.

How in the world do they make those Cadbury eggs so good?

Selby!!!  “This Saturday I ran my first trail marathon! I’ve done four road marathons, but this was my first race (of any distance on trails and I fell in love with it.  Everyone was so incredibly nice and encouraging.  I think I’m a road to trail convert, I can’t wait to do more trail races.  I signed up for a 50k next weekend!”

Kelly!!! “So this may not be big news, but for the first time ever I have been able to run a whole mile without needing to stop and walk.  This was about a week ago, but to make it even better, I pushed myself last night and made it 2 whole miles! I have been running for the last 3 years, but not very well.  Usually my heart rate goest oo high and my lungs can’t keep up.  I have been paying attention to my breathing on my runs and bought a treadmill at the beginning of January.  I have run almost every day or every other day and have seen my finish times get faster and faster.  I love being able to see this much progress over just a couple of months. Consistency pays off… who knew?!”

————————————————–

Jennifer!!! “Today I ran my first 10k distance ever! So psyched!

————————————————–

Ashley!!! “This weekend I ran my 7th half marathon which happens to be the one that qualified me for Half Fanatics! I attempted this goal last year but had a race canceled on me and couldn’t find one to replace it so I gave up.  This year I had A races (which I did) and B races just in case one of those got canceled.  This weekend’s race also polished off 6 months of racing for me! Since October I have ran: 2 full marathons, 4 half marathons and 1 15k. One marathon was a PR and the rest of the races were finished with pride!”

Marci!!! “Here’s a pic from last weekend.  Down at the San Rafael Swell (by Price, Ut).  I did 32 miles training for a 50 miler next week! I loved every step! It was so nice to be out of the snow for a bit!”

————————————————–

Katie!!! “Over the weekend, I ran my 2nd half marathon.  My first was in September in downtown Asheville, NC and I finished in 2:22.  Since I signed up for my second half, I was determined to beat my time from the last one.  I worked really hard for about 3 months.  Lots of speed and hill work (most workouts taken from your blog;).  The last 3 weeks of training were tough because I was fighting a potential ankle injury.  I couldn’t do much running during those weeks.  Well, I ran the half this past Saturday and finished in 2:10! That’s a 12 minute PR! Oh and I forgot to mention, this half took place at the Biltmore house in Asheville, NC and was one of the most beautiful runs I’ve ever had!”

————————————————–

Isabelle!!! “Because we both agree that hill training is important, I run with the November Project Boston on a double sided hill every Friday! On the 2nd Friday of the month, we hold a “PR day” where you aim to crush your previous record for running the hills 3 times each (a total of 4.1 miles).  Here is Liza, me, and Emily after crushing our previous PRs and earning a new dot on our hat to indicate the achievement! If you or any readers don’t know what the November Project is… google it and #justshowup!”

————————————————–

Robin!!! “My running achievement is finishing the 7k Get Lucky race this past weekend in Minneapolis.  I ran it in 39:01 and I’m very proud of myself (for several reasons).  First, I never in a million years thought I was a runner! It is something I can do- even if it’s not 5 min/miles.  Everyone is unique and I’m grateful for what I can do! Second, I ran the entire length of the race without stopping to walk- though my speed fluctuated throughout.  I need to work on pacing.  There’s always room for improvement! Third, it motivated me to register for more! I even registered for a 10k! Proof that you never know what the next day may bring and you are stronger than you think!”

————————————————–

Haley!!! “The attached picture is from after the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC.  I trained for and ran this marathon with my dad.  My dad has been running since his college years and loves the sport.  I grew up swimming and running has only recently become a hobby of mine.  This marathon was the hardest thing I have ever done.  The training, the actual act of running the race, the fundraising for OAR (the Organization of Autism Research), and the soreness of the day after were an entirely new experience for me.  I swore I would never do another one and told many people to remind me how painful it was if I ever considered running another marathon.  Here I am a few months later considering applying for the lottery to run the same marathon again in October, once again with my dad.  I am forever grateful for the memories that running has given me with my dad and will cherish them always.”

NewImage

————————————————–

Sarah!!! “I completed my 4th half marathon on Saturday, 3/12/16 and PR’d by 8 minutes with a time of 2:26:34! I was so excited because it was humid and the last 3 miles were hilly.  I trained with my local YMCA and loved every minute.  I’m in the pink hat.  Happy Running!”

————————————————–

Sarah!!! “On January 18th my good friend/running pal finished the Chevron Houston Marathon (picture attached).  Hours after finishing the race we were relaxing and eating our weight in BBQ when we got a phone call that quickly changed the celebratory mood- a close friend and dear friend Jordan had passed away due suddenly to complications with type 1 diabetes.  The news shocked and devastated us especially because Jordan was so full of life and had just graduated from the University of Arkansas the month before and had hopes of becoming a diabetes educator.  Through the driving process we decided we needed to find a way to honor Jordan’s legacy and help find a way to a cure for the disease that cut her life much too short, so Jogging for Jordan was born.  We created a campaign through JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) and are raising money to help find a cure while training for the GO! St. Louis Half Marathon.  Several of Jordan’s friends and myself, some avid runners, some first time half marathoners have found comfort in training together and fundraising for a great organization.  Within a month we supassed our original goal of $2,500 and raised it to $5,000 before the April 10th race.  It has always astonished me how supportive the running community is so below is the link to the JDRF campaign page should anyone feel inclined to read more about Jordan’s story to help us reach our goal.  GO HERE!!!!!”

What are you most excited about this weekend?  Anyone have a race?  A long run?

Ever gone out for a run or completed a race with one of your parents?

Parents—>  are your kids picky eaters or will they try most things?

At the end of your first half-marathon/marathon did you tell yourself that you were never going to run one again?  And then sign up for another one a few days later?

I’m going to use that Cadbury joke…so funny! This weekend I have a half marathon which should be a lot of fun. I think at the end of my first half and full I was disappointed with my time so I wanted to try again. Still think I can do better so I have to keep trying and trying again ;)

Slippers and froyo looks so cute and comfy :) Can’t wait to see how you do her room! She’s going to be so excited :)

Hahaha. I love that Brooke is wearing the donut hat. That is seriously awesome. That’s a great tradition to do with Brooke. I also like pesto sauce a lot but I’ve never tried it on chicken. That’s definitely interesting and I think I’ll try it. Thanks for sharing.

Once I get my rear in gear, I’m going to head down for the shamrock half marathon in VA. It’s supposed to pour rain so my goals went out the window but it’s fine.

It’s my mum’s birthday today so we’re going out to celebrate tomorrow! Then my mum and I are planning on doing a long run together on Sunday but not sure how far yet. My mum and I run together a lot. And raced a half marathon together last year and are going for the full marathon together this year.

After my first half, I wanted to run another one right away! We’ll see how I feel after my first full..

I’m just excited for the weekend and having NO plans! I’m going to read, catch up on some guilty pleasure TV, run and just relax! Also, it snowed here overnight, so all those things sound even better now! (It’s supposed to be in the mid 70s on Monday, so snow isn’t going to last!)

When my older sister and I ran the Athens marathon a few years ago, my dad ran the 5k with my younger sister. It was fun to have all of us out there doing a race! My dad used to run with us all the time until he hurt his knee and ended up getting a knee replacement. After my first marathon, I swore up and down I wasn’t doing another one. Now new weekend I’ll be running marathon number 39 or 40 (I’ve lost track).

I’m really excited for weekend froyo and a parade tomorrow. And sleep. So.much.sleep.

After my first half marathon, I decided people who ran those or double that amount were crazy. Now the half is my favorite distance to race. It’s strange how much our perspectives can change over time. :)

Brooke is such a doll!! I actually wanted to do another 1/2 marathon right after my first one, but after I did my second one I never wanted do another one again. It was extremely hilly.

Reply

After my first half I was eager to do it again, but after my first marathon I declared I wouldn’t run one again. I signed up for my second one within a month because I want to improve my time and have a better experience.
That is so sweet that you’re decorating Brooke’s room while she’s gone. I bet she’ll be so excited when she gets back!

I’m running my first 20 mile training run for my 50k this Sunday! I’m nervous because it’s been almost two years since I’ve done 20 miles.
At the end of my fist marathon my dad was there cheering me on and I came right up to him and said “Never again.” I think the next month was when I signed up for my second marathon. Then when my best friend told me she was going to do a 50k I told her she was crazy and that I could never do a race that long. A month later I apparently had a change of heart and signed up for the same 50k. Running is addicting.

I have a 4 mile race on Sunday. It’s been nice for the last couple weeks but is snowing like crazy now! Fingers crossed the sun comes out and melts it all for a nice race day.
My mom is my running partner. She’s running on Sunday with me and has done most of my races with me. She’s a good sport, even when I sign up for half marathons (which despite what she says, I don’t make her sign up for! She chooses to).
I say at the end of every race (even 5k’s) that I’m not running again. I’m usually on my computer that afternoon signing up for another race ;)

My mom ran her first 10K last year and I was her personal pacer :) The run was going great until a crazy thunder and lightning storm rolled in and they had to cancel the race at mile 4! I tried to convince her to ignore the race security and keep running because we were so close to the finish but she wasn’t into breaking the rules!

P.S. – LOVE the dress! Do you think it runs small or true to size?! I’m always awful at online shopping because I can never tell how things are gonna fit!

I cannot WAIT to see Brooke’s new room! I also just love reading these run accomplishments! It makes me want to go relive mine all over again and shoot for my next ones! Those women are rockstars.

I’ve never even run a race with either of my parents, but after every marathon I’m immediately ready for my next. I’m definitely an addict.

Reply

I swore never to run another marathon after my first. I’ve now completed 7! But 2016 i decided to stick to half and below so my training can be more easily fit into my life :)
I’m running 10 miles today since the weekend will be busy. Tomorrow I will see my boyfriends daughter in her chorus performance.

First of all, those slippers Brooke is wearing are adorable!

My baby is only a few months old so we are still exclusively breastfeeding but I know I was a very picky eater as a kid and I still am. I can only hope she grows up to eat like her dad who pretty much eats anything.

Reply

My son isn’t an overly picky eater at all except lately when it comes to anything I cook or bake! He was easier when he was younger lol. I used to love those Cadbury eggs

Reply

Oh my gosh! Those texts with your Mom about breakfast! So funny!! haha
I can’t wait to see what you do with Brooke’s room!! She is going to be so happy!!

Reply

Hahaha that text from your mom is hilarious! I HAD to share that with my sister. Those things really are the best Easter treat!

Congrats to all of those runners! That’s amazing! I love reading their accomplishments!!

I’ve run a fee races with my dad and loved it!! He ran a 10k with me but not because he meant to, he missed the 5k turn off! :) But it was so much fun!!

Happy Friday!!

I have one really picky eater one one who eats almost everything. I got to the point that is tell the picky eater if she doesn’t want what’s for dinner she can have cereal. But for the most part I don’t have to worry about that. She does pretty good to eat most of what I cook.

I love seeing everyone’s running accomplishments!! I am running my long run today, and then it’s taper time! After my first half-marathon, I signed up for the next one right away..which was a month later. I’m excited to fly to Spain tomorrow!!! Hoping to get some gorgeous runs in over there.

Reply

Oh my gosh I love that donut pillow… I want one! Haha. My mom and I have walked a few 5ks and its her goal to run one in a month!

Before I even ran my first half marathon I had already decided I wanted to run more and even run a marathon someday. I loved how running was something I could push myself in and wanted to keep setting goals for myself!

Reply

I have a 16 miler on my schedule this weekend, but Colorado weather is not cooperating and dumped 2 inches of snow on us this morning, so we will see how that goes!

My first every half marathon was with my mom :) still my favorite race memory!

After my first marathon I definitely swore I wouldn’t do another. And now I’m training to qualify for Boston. Running makes us do crazy things!

Reply

I haven’t had a Cadbury egg in forever! You sure have a strong sweet tooth girl. I don’t know how you stay so think. Oh yeah, it’s all the running!

Reply

my dad was an avid runner his whole life (and still sort of “shuffles” as my mom now calls it — hey, he’s getting out there at 66 still at least!) so we’ve gone for runs together before and did one 5K together. love being able to share that passion with him.

Reply

The first half I ran, I said I would never run one again – then I signed up for more. I actually like half now. The only marathon I ran, I didn’t hate it at all and thought I would totally sign up for another one. Hoping to get that 2nd marathon in this May!

My son is kind of a picky eater, but willing to try most food. He eats everything at preschool though

Reply

I have a picky eater with food allergies. It is definitely challenging. I’ve done many 5k’s before, but walked or walked/jogged them. My goal (I’m 42) is to ‘run’ my first race this year. We’ll see how that goes.

Reply

Seriously, Brooke is so stylish.
My husband is out of town this weekend so I’m hiring a babysitter and going for a LONG run with some speed work tomorrow. I already have my route picked out–from the juice bar to the beach and back. I always run faster when there’s a treat at the end…

Reply

So I actually signed up for my first & second marathon at the same time. I ran them two weeks apart back in 2011 & boy was that a bad idea. My “taper” for marathon #2 was pretty much just sitting & stretching for two weeks. After that I said never again, which for me meant 4 years. But seriously, my last marathon was my last marathon. Halfs only for me from here on out!

I’ve got a 13 mile long run this weekend + filling in as a wedding cake taster since my friends fiance has to work. <– Fine by me, obviously!

Love the November Project reps!!!!

I so so so look forward to reading your blog every Friday! Love hearing about everyone’s running achievements!

And, even though my first marathon didn’t quite go as well as I hoped, I couldn’t wait to sign up for a second.

This weekend includes plans to reduce chaos – we just got all of our stuff transferred from AZ to NM last Saturday and are still fighting the mess of unpacking and organizing. I am so envious of you getting it all done in a short few days!

First longish run (8 miles) for my first week training for my first full marathon- a lot of firsts in there!

Enjoy redecorating Brooke’s room!! That’s so exciting – I can’t wait for her reaction!

Reply

I love reading about other peoples accomplishments. Thanks for posting them Janae!

I have a half marathon tomorrow. I can’t decide if I want to race it or leisurely run with my friends and sister. I gave up racing years ago feeling satisfied with both my marathon and half marathon PRs. Pacing and running at leisure is way more fun!

Since I was injured for my first marathon I knew I wanted to sign up for another. And you know how it goes, one friend will sign up for a race and soon everyone follow suits! #16 will be Big Sur next month. I’m looking forward to running shorter miles afterwards though. back to back marathons are exhausting!

I can’t wait to see what you do with Brooke’s room. I’m planning to transition my 2.7yo into a big girl bed after my marathon. Mama needs her sleep until then!

Have a great weekend!

Reply

I have a long run this weekend that I’ve moved to today because the weather is so lovely! Like ideal weather :)
I’m sure Brooke is going to love her new room! She seems like such a happy little one, and it’s clear that her awesome mama has something to do with that :)

I did not get into NYC Marathon! I was super bummed out. Argh!

It got me SUPER excited when I read the question about running with a parent.

Answer: YES! I made my dad run a full marathon right before he turned 60 years old and we won a trip to DISNEY WORLD as a result. You can read all about it on our blog this week.

Well-timed question!

Heading out for 22km today – just had some banana with peanut butter and a small coffee. So stoked that my health is improving with better fuelling and more structured training. So inspired by the awesome chickadees sharing their stories.

Okay I’m sold. I’m buying pesto from wholefoods today and making chicken breasts with pesto and Parmesan yum! Xx

I have 10 miles planned for Saturday. I’m looking forward to running with my friends – I did 11 solo miles last weekend and it felt endless!

I definitely thought I was going to be one and done after my first half…for about a day. Then I was perusing other races :)

Reply

I actually felt like I could keep running at the end of my half marathon and I thought to myself “I need to sign up for a full”. Crazy I know haha! I have yet to do a full though because I keep getting pregnant. This weekend my family is coming into town and I am really excited to see them. :) Then I am driving back with them to stay for a bit, which makes me even more excited.

I’m running the Ashland half marathon in Massachusetts as a prep run for the real thing i.e. the Boston Marathon (my first marathon! eeks). Part of the half runs on the real marathon course. The nerves are definitely ramped up!

My dad and I used to go bike riding together; does that count?

I need a doughnut hat and a doughnut.

Reply

I have a 3 year old too and the pickiest eater ever! He won’t try anything new and doesn’t eat any veggies right now or chicken unless its fried from a restaurant so Brooke looks like a great ester compares to my son. I like the idea of pesto on my chicken. Yum! Your sweet potato fries look good. I have the hardest time cutting those when I make them.

Reply

Congrats on the move! Looks like an awesome decision and set up. Cannot wait to see Brooke’s room with her big girl bed. She will love it I am sure. I remember those days with my girls so special! And so nice to create a space for them to have as their own that they love.

Is the dress tts? And what about the black slip on tennis shoes. Are they comfy and where are they from?

I love that giant donut!! haha

When my 4th baby was born, my mom asked me if I’d train with her for the Portland Marathon so she could BQ. Of course in my new baby haze I said yes. 7 months later we crossed the line together, she got her BQ, and it was spectacular! Oddly enough that was also my first stand alone marathon. My family has done lots of running events together-when I was younger my mom would help me, then we became training buddies, then I paced her, and we traded off who was helping who ;) My brother is in the mix, too and we’ve all shared pacing each other (I’ve never been fast enough to pace my brother though!!!)

After my first IM and vowing that I would bask in that one race I signed up for another as soon as it was open for registration (which was a week later!)

Have a great weekend decorating Brooke’s room!!!!
