6 mile repeats, I don’t know what I was thinking and Brooke is pretty stoked about this move.

Always a really good feeling when I can finish my workout before Brooke even wakes up for the day.  I started quite early and it was dark until I started stretching and doing core work after my run so the treadmill it was.  I just can’t get myself to run in the dark alone.  I don’t know WHAT I was thinking when I used to live in kind of a weird part of town in San Jose, California and run at 5 a.m. by myself in the mornings but I would never ever do that again… the treadmill takes my early morning running fears away:)

I kind of love doing speed work early because I don’t have time to think about the workout, I just go and do it.  I take my w/u and c/d extra slow on my speed workouts because my focus is on the repeats, not the w/u and c/d and so I like to go at whatever pace I want for those.

1 mile w/u, 6 x 1 mile with .5 mile recoveries, 1.5 miles c/d.   Didn’t know where my splits would be so I just started at a 6:31 and went down from there.  When I do speed work on the treadmill I try to focus on owning the treadmill and not letting the treadmill own me.  Does that make sense?  I don’t want to put it at a pace that has me hanging on for dear life with the belt pulling me along.  I try to own the treadmill by staying on top of my cadence/form/feeling in control of the pace while still pushing it and my heart rate skyrocketing.

Hanson’s calls this type of workout a strength workout and lists the benefits of strength workouts—>  improved lactate clearance, improved lactate tolerance, improved endurance at faster paces, improved oxygen delivery (via stronger heart) and improved running economy.  Sign me up.  I love knowing the benefits of specific workouts because that gives me that much more motivation to do the hard stuff!

It was a double fisting water bottle day.  Somehow I completely destroyed these water bottles during my run.

Also, I can’t even tell you how happy I was that my favorite treadmill (that allows you to go over 60 minutes without stopping) was open on a crowded morning at the gym.

I sported my Boston shirt for the move (aka I finally found it when I was going through everything… hallelujah).

The best box that we opened:)

And for the random portion of today—>  My friend had the cutest sandals on yesterday (so naturally I had to copy her and order them) and they are a killer deal right now HERE at J. Crew Outlet.  SUMMER IS ON IT’S WAY and I’m glad I have her feet to model these shoes instead of my runner’s feet;)

Happy Tuesday!  Off to unpack boxes and maybe even make our first meal at home here:)  Or get take-out.  But at least we will be eating something together at our counter in our house tonight and I can’t wait.

All I can say is that surprisingly enough I really miss speed work right now. Running while pregnant is hard sometimes

Reply

Definitely hard! My baby is six months old and it is so nice to push myself again! Hang in there. You can’t be pregnant forever (thank goodness!) even though it feels like it some days.

Good luck with the unpacking! I feel like I need a pedicure now after seeing that picture. HAHA!!!

Omg what brand/color is the polish your friend is wearing? I’m in love with it ?

Enjoy your first meal in your new place! I remember that 6 x 1 mile workout from when I did Hansons Marathon Method – challenging but fun!

I’m so proud of you Janae. Nice job, you have officially motivated me for my mile repeats tomorrow. I have six of them as well. I can’t imagine doing them on the treadmill but I’m terrified of running quickly on that thing.

Oh, the treadmill! I use it more than I would prefer. I’m also afraid of running in the dark (live in VA suburbs outside DC – nice area, but attacks have happened), and I’m afraid to run alone on the trails around here unless it’s the weekend when they’re typically busy with cyclists and other runners. Really wish it didn’t have to be so scary to run alone as a female!

That nail polish colour is adorable!

Those sandals are so cute but would really kill my feet and legs. I can’t wear so flat w/o any arch support. Finally bought my first pair of Brooke shoes and straight out of the box they were HEAVENLY. I’m sold. Went from Saucony to Addias boost 3 years ago and they keep increasing in price and each change made to the style I likes a little less. So, Finally tried out Brookes yummy! Thanks!
Congrats on the move I look forward to seeing the puppy. :)

Awesome job on the speed workout! I have been craving a good speed workout for some time now so I’m planning on doing one tomorrow! I also get freaked out when running in the dark alone so I’d rather go to the gym.

Hope everything with your move goes well!

I really like how you said own the treadmill because that totally makes sense and I am definitely going to keep that in mind for my next workout. What would you recommend for a beginner/intermediate speed workout for the treadmill. I have never actually done one that is planned and go more by feel?

Yeah, daylights savings – used to be light when I woke up or almost and now it is dark again. Back to the treadmill for my morning workout runs.

Enjoy your new home and can’t wait to see the pup once you get one!!!

Welcome home ladies! :)

Love your couch!!!! Is it microfiber? We are moving to South Florida on Thursday!!!! Our POD came yesterday and now I am just working on all the little extras! Packing the big stuff is a lot easier than all these little extras I don’t know where to put. Packing is A LOT of work!!!!! We are getting a new couch when we move. We had a white microfiber couch. White + 2 kids and a dog = big mistake!!!!

Hey Jen! It is a fabric couch actually but somehow it is really easy to clean. GOOD LUCK with your move! That is so so exciting. Seriously. PACKING takes so much time. Wow. Good luck and I’m excited for you that you get a new couch:)

I’m also nervous to run in the dark by myself…wish I could get over it because there would be so much more time in the day for running!! But for now I’ll be on the treadmill too.

Congrats on the move!! Wish you and Brooke all the best in your new home!

Love your Boston shirt!!!
Pretty couch too!
Glad you are not running alone in the dark anymore.

Enjoy your first meal in your new home!!! :)

Enjoy your new home!

When my dad got his first place after the divorce, we (my 2 sisters, my dad, me) ate pasta on the floor in the dining room – it was so sweet! Our first meal at our new home! I’ll never forget it.

I love the pink toes! I think I need new nail polish, now.

Congratulations on the move! It looks like Brooke loves it already!

The 1st meal we had at our house was pizza. We ordered it when we were driving home (10 minutes away), and we noticed someone parked behind us (in our driveway and about 12 am). It was the pizza guy. They were super fast and the pizza tasted great!

Reply

AHHHH WE JUST HAD PIZZA as our first meal here:) Great minds think alike. HAHA fastest pizza guy ever!

Yay for exciting changes!

I do the same thing with speedwork – do it early, on the treadmill! Hope your first meal in the new home is delicious!!

Happy new place!!
Can’t wait for the puppy addition. :)

Congrats congrats congrats!!!! So exciting to be in a new place!

I can totally relate to the fear of running alone in the dark. When I was in grad school and marathon training, I was up and out by 4:30 AM for up to two hours with my lil headlamp and reflective clothing.
There is a certain mystique to running in the quiet and darkness…but I cannot even imagine having the guts to do that now -even though I’d be more in danger of running into animals than humans!

Good GRACIOUS woman, those mile repeats. THOSE MILE REPEATS. You’re back, that’s for sure, on fire.

Those sandals are extremely cute, looking over at the website now!

Here’s an odd question: do you know how to jailbreak the gym treadmills to allow more than 60 min? Or does anyone on here?????

Unpacking into a bigger place always more fun than packing. I like the floors makes me want to see the whole place…sounds creepy but I love looking in other people’s homes. I SO need to redo my kids playroom as they are all growing and outgrowing their toys. Motivating me to pack and donate and declutter that room.

Huge congrats on the new place! Your wood floors look exactly like mine and it looks like you get lots of sunlight too! Pizza is the absolute best for your first meal there!

I live in a small city of 25,000 people and run every night after work at around 9 or 10 pm with my dog and always feel very safe here.

Reply

I hear you! I can never run early in the morning too dark, too cold and hell i am not even awake yet!

Love those sandals!! But now I’m curious about your friend’s pants, too – they (ankles only, I realize) look super cute. Any details?

So glad you’re all moved over. I love unpacking so much more than packing. Way more exciting to figure out where everything goes instead of “how in the world do I own this much stuff???”

totally get the speed work on the treadmill–i always check in to make sure i’m in control and the treadmill isn’t controlling me. I got ya

Ditto Jill, the “running” on the pants bottom drew me in also. Now I need to know what else it says! LOL Details please :)
