The last of our trip, my parents’ first date story (it was at DIsney) and my sister lost.

HAPPY MONDAY!! We are back in town, happy to be out of the car and ready for a week of good temps/being outside here in Utah!

I have a few more pics from our trip that I wanted to share!

“The best part about vacation is the continental breakfast.” -Curly.   Can’t say I agree with her but I’m very happy she enjoyed the hard boiled eggs, waffles and cereal:)

The morning that we went to Disneyland Brooke got in my bed at 3:30 a.m. and told me she couldn’t sleep anymore because she was so excited…

IMG 0539

Which resulted in a 3 hour nap for her while we were there.

My parents’ grew up in Southern California and their first date was to Disneyland.  I think that is another reason why I love going there so much—> I have heard the story from my Dad a million times about their date.  Their first kiss (ON THEIR FIRST DATE;) was on the Mark Twain boat and after they left my dad forgot where they parked and had to run up and down the parking aisles, which is a lot of aisles, until he found it.  They were 17 and got married when they were 19.

Before California Screamin’—>  Afterwards I vowed to never go on an upside down roller coaster again.  I had to sit out the next round.

IMG 0637

My mom and I always make sure to get Dole Whip and

IMG 0692

our chocolate/caramel covered marshmallows from Pooh’s corner and share them after dinner.  Gotta stick with tradition.

IMG 0687

A few people have asked in comments/emails about clothes from the last few days so here ya go:

Moto Leggings (the green ones I was wearing—> the most comfortable pants you will ever wear).  The sweater I wore with them was from this store but they don’t have it anymore.

Shirt in picture below (just green instead of pink stripes).

Black slip-ons

IMG 0653

Until next year (I learned my lesson and will only be wearing my running shoes when I go here)…

IMG 0551

For the last night of the trip my sister and I shared a room like the good old days (we shared a room for many many years.. she prayed for many years for a little sister so she didn’t mind;).

Growing up we were always very stubborn about who had to turn off the light and last Saturday night wasn’t any different.  At one point I looked over and she was covering her eyes from the light with her hand.  We both fell asleep and she woke up a little bit later and turned off the light.

The ride home was pretty uneventful and instead of going straight home we went to my sister’s for a walk and dinner.  Brooke kept telling me to run with her which warmed my heart.

IMG 0846

While on the walk I had mentioned that spaghetti sounded really good (I think a picture on instagram inspired that craving)…. an hour later and it was on my plate (well… penne but the same thing:).  Home cooked meals taste like heaven after traveling/road trips.

My races aren’t until beginning of April so this will be my first race less march in years.
Had a fun time with the boyfriend at the running store we each bought new running sneakers.

Wow, your parents got married at 19?! That’s amazing! Cute story. :)
The highlight of my weekend was an awesome track workout. Weekend isn’t the right word. We’re down people at my company and I had to hire a babysitter so I could work. At least I could watch Fuller House while working. I have my I first 5k in 5 years…I’m more intimidated by this 5k than any race I’ve run. Including an ultra.
I’m looking forward to more speed workouts!!! ;-)

I swear food pics on instragram will be the death of me! I instantly crave everything I see on there! I’m just excited for the weather this week!! Yay for Utah no longer being absolutely frigid!

Love that story about your parents! So sweet. I totally agree about how good home made meals are after vacation. Eating out is fun but nothing beats a home cooked meal.
My sister is going to have my first niece any day now and I’m so excited to meet her!!!

Reply

I went to Disneyland with my sister and niece in January and it was so much fun! Your pictures make me want to go back right now!

highlight from this weekend was walking around DC like a tourist. Seeing the white house, monument, museums. it never gets old even though i live here! I may run the Rock n’ Roll Dc 1/2 just for a practice race, but the big races all start at the end of April!

Looks like you had a great weekend! The highlight of mine was my first race of the year that went 100% according to plan and I’m really happy about it :) Followed by a home inspection for a house we’re buying that went AWFUL so that was fun.

Best part of my weekend was a massage on Friday night. Started off the weekend right! We spent alot of time with friends this weekend, which was pretty awesome too!

I have a marathon in New Mexico at the end of the month! I can’t believe how close it is!

Reply

I had my first (hopefully only!) DNF in a 1/2 marathon yesterday. I had an amazing few months of training and then my IT band decided it hated me last Wednesday. I ran for a full 6 minutes haha. Huge letdown but gotta tell myself there are more races to come. Can’t say that was the highlight but my family was in town and we made sure to make the most of the beautiful weekend and good food :)

Reply

DNF to me means Did not Fail. You showed up at the starting line and gave it your all. When you can’t finish a race, it only means you are respecting your body and what it can do for you on that day. It sparks a fire within you to work even harder towards your goal. <3

Reply

Aw thank you Jade that means a lot! And I LOVE your version of a DNF :)

Reply

Awww that story about your dad having to run up and down the aisles on their first date, haha! Cute!

I was looking through the rundisney tag on Instagram this weekend and decided I want to do another rundisney race! It’s been a couple of years now since I did the Princess Half!

The story about your parents is so sweet! Highlight of my weekend was my daughter’s 7th birthday party – even better that it was after my long run was out of the way.

Reply

That Disney story about your parents is too precious! It’s their own little fairy tale. :)

This week I’m looking forward to the start of a new month. I’m done with February for so many reasons.

Reply

It looks like you guys had a blast!! How fun!! I’ve never been to Disney but its on my bucket list!

I moved this weekend! So I’m exhausted! Looking forward to a week of relaxation!

But I do have my 4th half marathon next SUNDAY!!!! YAY! I’m so excited! :)

Reply

Home cooked meals really are the best after vacation! I have my spring goal race this weekend and am so excited for it! Hopefully March has better weather than February did.

Reply

Aww, your parents’ first date story is so cute! Highlight from my weekend was definitely my 5 mile run on Saturday. I did make it out the door on Sunday for a run but it was awful because I had a cold coming on…feeling worse this morning :(. No race plans for March, but my mom’s birthday is coming up!

Reply

Lol, I love free breakfasts too like Curly. Highlight(s) of my weekend were a great 18 mile run and then a gorgeous hike in Sedona. I am looking forward to focusing on cross-training and strength training this week, as well as home-cooked meals like yours after too much catered food at work!

Reply

How cute are your parents! Plans for this week include some strength training, plyo workouts, and my usual funs. Looking forward to enjoying this beautiful weather!

Reply

That is too sweet about your parents! Sounds like true love. I’ve always wanted to go on a date at Disneyland myself. My ex and used to go there all the time so now it reminds me too much of him.

Reply

The highlight of my weekend was my 10 mile trail run with my friends. 10 miles never go so fast when I’m by myself!

I have a half at the end of March – I can’t believe how soon it is!

Reply

Sounds like you guys had an awesome time :) :) :) Nothing too amazing around here! We were both quite busy with work so we did that and then took a walk and a coffee break in the …… sunshine! Yep yep London was pretty sunny yesterday!

Reply

Looking forward to seeing my BFF’s babies this week :-)

Reply

I thought it was hilarious that everyone thought the same thing…we had to know where those moto leggings and sweater where from!
Highlight was finally getting to take a test run after not running for two and a half weeks from very bruised tailbone…I was only going to do 10 minutes but it felt so good I ran 17 instead! Looking forward to getting back on the trails, I was up to running an hour comfortably in anticipation for a 13 mile trail run in the Catoctin Mountains.
I can’t believe how many miles you walked there in 16 hours, that was crazy!

Reply

We had spaghetti for lunch yesterday and it always hits the spot…carby goodness. My highlight was visiting my parents and grandparents for some quality family time.

Reply

Omg for sure sneakers only in Disney parks! Those parks are a workout! Not so sure about a match race but maybe a 10k in April.

Reply

I loved the story of your parent’s first date! My parent’s story was hilarious and very forward as well. The first thing my mom said to my dad was “you look good in those britches” which is hilarious because that doesn’t even sound like something she’d say! My weekend was no Disney, but I was fighting a head cold and slept non stop and then felt good enough yesterday to run 10 miles on the trails! It was a great weekend.

Reply

My sisters and I were the same way about turning the lights off at night. One of us would eventually wake up in the middle of the night and turn it off, but it was never me ;) Pictures of babies and toddlers sleeping is so adorable! I’m glad you all had such a great time. It looks like a ton of fun! I love Disney!!
My fiance and I ran our first half marathon this weekend! We had such a great time and got to hang out with family and friends all weekend which are the best kind of weekends in my book.
I’m not sure if we have any races in March but we definitely want to sign up for something again. Maybe a 5k or 10k!

Reply

My weekend was great. The best part was spending all day Saturday shopping with my mom. We even got our nails done together.

March is going to be super busy! My birthday is the 29th of March which is always fun (turning 28 this year)! Nothing big planned since it is right after Easter this year.

Reply

No March races yet. There is a St. Patricks day race, but its still cold and snowy here.

I went running outside this weekend. It was gorgeous out and I was in Toronto which has clear sidewalks.

Reply

That story is so sweet! Highlight of my weekend was going to my first NHL hockey game in Chicago! And the beautiful weather this weekend too :) Race-wise, I’m hoping to run an 8k in 2 weeks!

Reply

Up until last night, I had no March races on the calendar. I just agreed to run a 5k to benefit cancer research (although I may opt for the 10k option).

It looks like you guys had an awesome time at Disney. I can’t wait for the Star Wars Challenge in April, and I’m hoping we get in some park-time.

Reply

That’s so funny about the light ;) The hubs and I do the same thing!

Highlight: surprising my kiddos with a concert after school on Friday and our fav dinner place on the way!!

My baby girl is turning 12 on 3/8. Whew! I cannot even below it’s possible for her to be that old.

Reply

the weekend wasn’t long enough (but when is it) I had a very relaxing time just getting to stay at home and curl up with some netflix, so I’m not complaining.

March is a super travel month for me, so I’m looking forward to jetsetting around and visiting some family and friends.

Reply

I often find myself in the same situation as Brooke: being awake at 3am results in me taking 3 hour naps in the afternoon. Oops.

I have two races in March! Both are 5K’s, and I’m going to savor them because they’re the two races that stand between me and my first half marathon!

Reply

That’s super cute about your parents. It sounds like it worked out though. It sounds like you had a great weekend Janae.

Thanks for answering about the moto leggings. I’m not sure I can pull them off in olive but they are way cute.

Reply

I think continental breakfast is a big deal too. I always look for a hotel with one when ever I go somewhere. The abbey in, down in cedar city and the motel 6 in Moab both have great ones. A hotel with out a breakfast is a deal breaker for me.

Reply

SO FUN! I love Disney!

Reply

Looks like fun!
The highlight of my weekend was a 3 mile run yesterday. In a couple weeks I’m running a St. Patricks Day 10k.
:)

Reply

I have had an insanely busy week so this weekend was just spent relaxing and cleaning up around the house

I think most kids just love that they can get waffles at breakfast. My nephew enjoys it so much he bought his dad a waffle iron 2 Christmas’ ago. Not sure how many waffles he actually gets out of it…

Highlight of my weekend was going out to the fundraiser party on Saturday. My husband had his first full beer since chemo started and it just made him so darned happy. (he loves a good dark beer). I had chicken and waffles and I won a raffle.

Reply

Glad you made it back safely! Your parents first date was SO SO cute Oh my goodness, I love that.

Reply

Love the story about your parents!

No races in March planned as of yet but my birthday is this Sunday!!

The highlight of my weekend was planning our honeymoon to Switzerland and Italy!! I can’t wait! We’re going in October ;)
This week I’m starting some personal training sessions, so I’m super excited about that. I know she is going to kick my butt!

Reply

Great story about your parents. Brooke and I have a lot in common when it comes to not being able to sleep due to excitement.

My birthday is on Thursday – March 3 (I deem this my birthday week!!!)

I am looking forward to running a 10K this weekend to celebrate… because that’s how I like to celebrate birthdays. :)

Reply

Highlight of my weekend was a 100 KM cycle in New York City!

Reply

No races planned for me this month. In Ohio the weather is still quite a toss up so I will just be training :) happy Monday!

Reply

Highlight of my weekend was getting my whole house super clean and relaxing in the sun… not too exciting, but it felt great!!! Looking forward catching up on a few shows this week!

Reply

What a sweet story about your parents-thanks for sharing that!
I got back late last night from a whirlwind trip to New Orleans with friends to participate in the Rock and Roll race. We had so much fun and ate so much good food!

Reply

That’s such a sweet first date story! I loved catching up on your Disneyland vacation. Such fun family memories. Happy running!

Reply

Looks like a great trip! Glad you got to get away for a bit!

I got my wisdom teeth out this morning, so I’m just looking forward to being able to run again later on in the week. Between this and the injuries I’ve been facing, no races are on the calendar at all for me right now, but that’s okay – I just want to run for fun!

Reply

The picture of the two asleep in their strollers reminds me that sometimes, she is still just a baby. Love it. <3

Reply

You’re making so many good memories for Brooke and cousins! I love that you got to go with your best friends, your sister and mom too.

I’m running that Napa Valley marathon next weekend for the….5th time I think. I’m not really trained for it but managed to get in a 20 miler Saturday (just to make sure I can make all 26.2.) I’m going to use this race as a training run for Big Sur at the end of April. I don’t normally do this. I’ve done back to back marathons before but am usually trained up prior to each race. Oy!

Reply

highlight of my weekend was Sunday: a gorgeous morning run along the Hudson River, followed by church at Hillsong NYC, a walk around the city, and dinner at Whole Foods. all with the boy. <3

Reply

Highlight was going to Seaside, FL with my Nashville Brentwood Breakfast Club and running their half! You get a Vera Bradley bag at the end!!! I have a 25k trail race in March and of course my Birhday on March 23rd!!

Disney looked awesome!!

Reply

I love that Brooke crawled into bed with you. That is just so precious. Aren’t little girls the best?! Oh and I have a question for you. I think your eyebrows looks amazing and I would love to know who does them? I live in Provo so I’m nearby :)

Reply

My birthday is March 15th and I run a race every year for my bday. Last year I BQd on my birthday. This year I’m hoping for another BQ on 3/20 during the Wrightsville Beach Marathon. Exciting times here in NC!

Reply

Had 2 races this weekend – so fun and so blessed to be able to run outside!

This week is lots of clean up work (taxes, housekeeping, work stuff) so that isn’t super exciting but once done, you feel so accomplished!

Next race is my marathon – May 1st! So just training until then.

Brooke and her cousins have the best bond – what a gift you and your sister have given to them!

Reply

Also super excited about utah weather this week!! Going to try and go on a hike or two :)

Reply

I’m a leapling, so today is my real birthday! I had an age appropriate celebration with my family this weekend- I flew a kite with my nephew at the beach. It’s another sunshine filled day in California, which I would normally feel guilty about enjoying so much since we are still in a terrible drought, but we have rain coming later this week so I’m going to get the dog out for a glorious run in the sun (we will probably leap a bit for good measure).

Reply

Highlight of my weekend. …first run in three weeks! And it was outdoors!

Reply

Hey! Your trip looked amazing! Where did you end up staying? Or, do you have any cheap recommendations? I’m heading there with my 3 year old and hoping to cut down on costs. Thanks!! :)

Reply

Sounds like a great trip!
