Monday Matters + what happens when your eyebrows go very wrong.

I traded the treadmill in for some dirt this morning.  Best trade I have made in a very long time.

There is a trail that I do often where the first mile is STRAIGHT up—> 370 ft gain in that one mile + lots of rocks = if I can get to the top in under 10 minutes without any breaks I am very proud of myself.  I could tell by the end that I was cutting it close to my 10 minute mark so I sprinted for the last .1.  I was positive that my legs were going to fall off and my heart explode by the end of that mile.  Here’s to making my weakness my strength… excited to see the hill progress over these next few months!

IMG 0878 1

The trail got pretty muddy at points but if I am able to get up in the mountains in February to run (in shorts and a t-shirt too!!)… I’m a happy camper.   6 miles total and strength training tonight.

IMG 0879

I came back to my mom’s house and my Launch 3s (you can read my review on these HERE) were there waiting for me from the mailman.  My last pair hit their mile max so out with the old and in with the new (crazy how even just a color change in my shoes makes me excited to run in them;)  Don’t act like you don’t kiss your new pair of running shoes too.

The best reminder each time I put on my shoes:

And for some random Monday Matters:

*Brooke calls this her doghouse and I find her here often.

IMG 0861

*The toy of the day that I’m sure loving;)

IMG 0884

*So last week before going to Disneyland I wanted to look tan in California so I went spray tanning.. the problem was that I got my eyebrows tinted right after.  Worst idea.  I didn’t even think about what would happen mixing the two things together but it wasn’t pretty… my eyebrows turned a very orange/bronzeish/bright color.  My sister spent a good 30 minutes scrubbing them out and using some stuff she googled to get it out. So, fyi… don’t do what I did.

IMG 0484

*Speaking of my sister—>  She shared with me her gummy raspberries in the car which is saying a lot about our relationship at this point in life.  Gummy raspberries are to her as chocolate covered cinnamon bears are to me.

IMG 0833

*Don’t worry, I got 100% of my beanie babies in my divorce.  I had a good attorney.

IMG 0852

-My friend Lizzy brought me over the most delicious Thin Mint Poke Cake.  You must make this to celebrate March.  It was delicious.

IMG 0485

*Cereal day is on March 7th and we are fully prepared to celebrate.

What was your last run in February?  Anyone else able to get to the trails lately?

What cereal will you celebrate National Cereal Day with?

Any delicious mint desserts to share with us?  I love the combination of mint and chocolate.

I also have been running in the Launch’s and love them. After about how many miles do you usually switch them out for a new pair? I feel like I read different numbers from different sources all the time!

Reply

The idea that we need to switch out for new shoes every 250-300 miles is outdated. It’s a great way for shoe companies to make more money (surprise). When to get new shoes is highly individual; some people can run 600 miles on their shoes. The #1 way to know (for me) is if I start getting some injuries pop up particularly around the hip or back. Otherwise you can check the wear of your shoes or see if they ’tilt’ when you lay them down flat.

Thank you! I always thought that 250-300 number was suspicious. ;)

Love Brooke’s doghouse lol! Good thing you have your sister to save you from beauty mishaps – eek! Spray tanning on my face in general makes me nervous. Even using a new foundation makes me nervous, who am I kidding!

Cinnamon life.

Brooke’s doghouse is adorable! My husband wears the Launches and loves them, but I find that they’re too cushy for my feet. I’ll be celebrating cereal day with my current favorite, Cheerios Ancient Grains—yum!

That Beanie Baby picture is hilarious!! I only have French Toast Crunch cereal at home right now, sad. I think this holiday warrants a special trip to the store for more cereal to celebrate! The celebration may involve a lot of Lucky Charms :)

my last run in February was a very hilly run in Miami. Bridges are the toughest!!!

My right IT band went on strike last week so my last (good) February run was a week ago Sunday :(( Luckily I have a mountain bike and that doesn’t seem to irritate the ITB. Had a great trail ride this morning.

I’m pretty sure I haven’t eaten cereal a single time in 2016!

My last run in February was the Phoenix half marathon! First time running more than a 5k!! Thanks for inspiring me to get off my butt and run!

Reply

I have been there with the eyebrows!

I’ll be celebrating national cereal day with Froot Loops, because nothing compares to Froot Loops. They are sacred.

Reply

Oh man, I would have been petrified about the eyebrows. That sounds painful. I’m kind of paranoid about eyebrows to begin with though LOL. Glad everything went well.

I’m slowly getting back into running after being sick for a few days. I don’t feel great but I do feel better than last week.

Ahhh!! I love the color of your new Launches. My 30th birthday is this Friday and I am torn between the black/green and the new blue kaleidoscope ones that were released this week. Decisions, decisions.

Hope you are enjoying being back outside for runs. Still a few weeks away here in Wisconsin but hopefully soon!

Have a wonderful Monday!

Getting new running shoes is like Christmas morning for me!! It is my favorite. My last run of February was yesterday….Mondays are strength days for me!

My leap year run was a track workout :) as for minty desserts … I really REALLY don’t like mint so it s a no no for me :) but anything with chocolate works :) hope you have an awesome week Janae !!!

I love gummie raspberries! Not gonna lie, chocolate covered cinnamon bears kinda weird me out. I need to try them before I judge them too harshly!

Last run of February was yesterday! Long run is a great way to end the month!

Running in the mountains, mint and chocolate and new running shoes – favorites of mine!

Reply

I ran 3 miles today to celebrate the end of February! Plus a 2.5 mile walk for the cherry on top!!

I LOVE COCOA PEBBLES! :) My favorite part is the chocolate milk at the end!! Yum!!

I love your mountain views! So awesome!

I wasn’t even aware that there was a cereal day but I’m going to be celebrating for sure! All the cereal!

Reply

I used to be a cerealaholic! I would eat Wheat Chex for dinner and Golden Grahams for dessert in grad school LOL.

My last run of February was 40 lovely minutes on the treadmill. The temp was warm and sunny on Saturday but back to cold and dreary here in Minneapolis.

There is a cupcake shop back home in Indiana that has THE BEST cupcakes EVER and my favorite is the Andes mint cupcake. OMG! It’s da bomb!

Last run of feb was 6 miles at 7:30 pace on the good old treadmill

For cereal day I will be eating honey bunches of oats, or Cinnamon Toast Crunch. So good!!!!

Reply

New running shoes are the best!! Today my run was 5 miles on the treadmill. It was a great one hardly any Braxton Hicks contractions. Major win in my book for being almost 30 weeks pregnant! :) I will celebrate with Reeses Puffs because they are the best cereal ever! ;)

Reply

My hip is still achy so I hiked around the park with our dog today. She doesn’t have the snazzy dog house that Brooke has, btw.

Reply

I didn’t know cereal day was a thing – how exciting!! I will most definitely be celebrating with a bowl of reeses puffs. You can’t go wrong with chocolate and peanut butter!

Reply

Last run was 7 recovery miles on Sunday.
Favorite cereal in cinnamon toast crutch!
I only like Thin Mints fit some odd reason since i don’t like mint or chocolate. Luckily my boss gave me a box today!
I thought you would enjoy this! http://mashable.com/2016/02/29/donut-ice-cream-cone/

Reply

Well I ran 3 today. Totaled 34.7 for the month. That’s half what many run in a week. Lol. It’s weird to not be marathon training. Lol.

Reply

I want that bowl.. but what would I have on the bottom? I mean, owning a hungry runner girl one might be a little on the creepy side. But I need one for me.

Even more important than national cereal day (honey nut chex, reeses peanut butter puffs and raisin bran crunch – in that order) is national pb day TOMORROW. I know I live like it is NPBD every single day, but I still think I should do something special tomorrow, ya know?

Have fun at bootcamp tonight!

You are one lucky girl to have a sister who’s so good to you! My favorite cereal lately is a Vegan Sprouted Brown Rice Crisps by One Degree Organic Foods. It doesn’t have any funky ingredients or additive, just a little coconut sugar. They’re perfect and my favorite!

Reply

What a sweet cereal package!

Reply

Ugh you’re making me want to get a new pair of running shoes! My last run was yesterday (3 miles) along one of the rivers in Pittsburgh. The trail has one of the best views!

Reply

Ahhh getting new running shoes is the best thing EVER! My last run was last week on the treadmill. I hurt my knee last weekend so I tested out a few slow miles and they went okay. Hopefully tomorrow is better!

Reply

I had the exact same thing happen with the spray tan and eyebrow tinting! It was awful!

Reply

My last run of February was yesterday. Don’t know how far I went, but I went for about an hour and a half with almost zero Achilles tendon pain until the very end. Hope this means it’s healing!

I’m not a big fan of mint desserts. In my view, the only acceptable one is mint chip ice cream.

Is this why I’ve been thinking about cereal during my runs so much lately?! I used to be a cereal conossieur but I haven’t had any in a while… But it’s an indisputable fact that the very best one is Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Sorry, that’s fact, not opinion.

I always found my girls under the table. They called it lazytown.

My last run was outdoors on sunday. The snow finally melted and I think I might be finally feeling better.

Reply

My last February run was 5 miles yesterday on the treadmill. I love frango mints!! Chocolate and mint is the best combo!

Reply

I gave up on finding good GF cereals with the exception of Cinnamon Chex. I treat them like dessert though, I doubt they are very nutritious. Perfect to celebrate cereal day!

Reply

I ran outside today in the snow – it wasn’t too bad. Another 20cm of snow on the way :-(

I don’t eat cereal very often, but when I do – it is at track meets and it is always Fruit Loops

Reply

I want your hat but I can’t find one :(

Reply

An entire mile uphill? You lost me after the first 0.10 of the mile. Ahaha seriously, hills are so tough!

My last run in February happened today! Just 3 miles around campus while listening to an audiobook.

If I’m celebrating National Cereal Day, it is DEFINITELY with Life cereal. My faveeee.

I’m the anti-fan of mint + chocolate. Mint should only be for toothpaste. ;)

You look so cute in the white Brooks hat. I misplaced mine … but it’s okay because I definitely never looked as cute as you do in it! :)

I got a new pair of Brooks today too! I’m switching from the Adrenalines to the Glycerines… I cannot believe how SOFT the Glycerines are! The material they are made from is heaven!

Reply

Oh gosh! Your eyebrow incident sounds terrifying! Your sister is awesome though!

I feel like I wasted my leap year day. I didn’t run. And, I don’t have any energy to…

Reply

I think I still have another 50-70 miles on my last pair of Launch 2’s– I LOVED those! What do you think are the biggest differences between the 2 and the 3?

Reply

Last run was 5 miles yesterday. Instead of my 4:00 am daily run this morning I had a 3:52 am wake up call from a 7 year old with an ear ache. Decided to stay and monitor after Tylenol and return to bed. Two on antibiotics as of today, third finished recently, so I should be golden for tomorrow’s run!

Reply

we will definitely be celebrating cereal day around here haha. and i didn’t know you knew Lizzy!! gosh i’ve been reading her blog for years! she makes the best stuff :)

Why do you spray tan? You’re beautiful just the way you are no matter if your skin is pale or not. Being your natural self and being confident in it no matter what is always more beautiful. Don’t hide behind something you’re not…plus those chemicals! :0 xx

Reply

My last run in February was today! Monday is supposed to be my rest day but I ran 0.5 miles so I could beat my monthly mileage record. :) In October I ran 92.82 miles… and as of this morning I had 92.5. I had to beat it!!

Reply

I used to love cereal, but now I’m an oatmeal lover.

The last run I went on was last week sometime. I’ve been taking it easy and trying to ease back into running after doing all sorts of fertility meds and crap. :S Hoping to run 3 miles this weekend. :)

I get so crazy excited for new running shoes too. I know I’m obsessed, but I love them.. I would rather buy shoes more often then pay for gas.. at least running shoes are eco friendly compared to driving everywhere.

Thanks for sharing the cake recipe.

I love SO MANY things about this post… Brooke’s dog house, the couple splitting the beanie babies! You constantly make me laugh AND inspire me to want to run. And a grasshopper pie is most definitely the best mint and chocolate treat!

I’ve just started eating cereal and am loving it!! Started to get really sick of toast. At the moment I’m liking sultana bran….but to be fair I started off quite boring so am looking forward to trying some more exciting ones. Your running shorts are cool. I need to get some more fitted ones to try. Love Brooke in her dog house so funny xx

I need to move to Utah to run! Trails are my happy place, and we just don’t have them in Charleston. It’s terrible.

That is the COOLEST cereal bowl EVER! Where did you get it? Who can personalize a cereal bowl for me? (Actually for my kids who eat Waaay too much cereal….we are always out!!)

I got to run my fastest run to date since back from injury. Still not too speedy but it was nice to see the avg show up on my Garmin and be back in an area I am comfortable in! :)
