Monday Matters. Tested out the FOOT, Soyaki, Valentines, guac, Bday dates, treadmill calculator edition.

I LOVED hearing about your favorite running fuel this morning and what works best for you! Thank you for sharing!

Monday Matters:

-Because if the temperatures are above 40 degrees it feels like summer and we sport the shorts.  All of the winter wonderland going on the last few months has sure changed our perspective on temperatures.

-My foot has had zero pain the last few days so I decided to test it out for a little bit on the treadmill today.  Everything felt real good but we’ll see if it still feels good when I wake up tomorrow (my real test to see if something is 100%… ).

IMG 7556

-Steamed broccoli and carrots, rotisserie chicken, brown rice and TJ’s Soyaki= the best homemade teriyaki bowl of your life.

IMG 7569

-Frozen made the final cut for Brooke’s big ‘Valentines for her classmates’ decision.

IMG 7565

-We stop to get to know every puppy/dog that we come across each day.

IMG 7231

-Ever tried carrots and guac?  Guac tastes delicious with pretty much every vegetable in my opinion.

IMG 7508

-Rosy cheeks and Salt Lake City in the background.

-My nephew and nieces are each taking me on a date this week for my birthday.  I can’t think of a better birthday present.

I don’t know what they are doing below.

Treadmill Running: What’s grade got to do with it?  Such an awesome article to help you better understand the speed/incline combo that is right for you for any workouts that you do on the treadmill.  I LOVE the treadmill Incline Calculator that you can download at the end of this article too!  A very helpful tool if you are a treadmill user!

-Seeing Brooke with flour on her face and clothes yesterday gave me the biggest smile.  The older she gets the more and more we are able to do together and baking is one of our favorites.

IMG 7486

-Still weirds me out that she is tall enough for the drinking fountain.  We measured her yesterday and she is FORTY INCHES!?!?!

I usually set my incline to 1%. Anymore that is what feels flat. I did an hour hill run on the treadmill last week and it got all the way up to 15! I felt like I was climbing! I will say that I was for sure no long running at that incline! When it started to work its way back down, even a 6 felt flat!

So glad your foot’s feeling better! And I’m not a tm runner but usually set it to 1% at least, sometimes 1.5 and then play around with it because I get bored.

My Monday matter is that today was my first day back to work after having my first little girl!

I always set the incline to at least 1%.

Carrots and guac is my favorite!!!!

Reply

Crossing my fingers on the foot for you tomorrow! I would have to say sriracha is my marinade of choice!

Reply

I’m glad your foot is feeling better! I set the treadmill anywhere from 0%-2% and then play around with the incline from there.

Reply

I’m so happy about it finally getting warm. I am so excited to see 60’s in the forecast!

Anywhere from 0-3 for the treadmill. I’ve actually never tried hills on the treadmill – Am I crazy? :) I may try to play with the incline when I get on the treadmill this evening.

It is supposed to get below freezing in North Florida tonight. I’m ready for spring!

Oh man, that puppy!! Never tried the carrots and guac combo but those are two of my favourite things so I’m on a MISSION haha. Hope your foot still feels good tomorrow!

I love carrots and guac, such a good combo! I also love dipping it with mini peppers and even zucchini slices!

Our sides of America are so flip flopped! It’s been warm here in Tennessee and now all the sudden it’s so cold today. I don’t do the treadmill so I’ll be bundling up in my thermal tights and layers to run with my group tonight!

Our winter has definitely been all over the place this year as well. I feel like I cannot get into a good groove because on one hand, it’s warm and another hand it’s cold and we are getting a lot of snow. It’s been tough.

That’s exciting your nieces and nephews are taking you out. I love surprises so I think I would like it.

So glad your foot is feeling better!! I usually set my incline to 1% if anything! Hope you have a great week!

ahh, I just remembered that I have to get some valentines for Max’s class. Thanks for the reminder ;-)

omg She is cute in that Valentines box picture. That is all :)

Cauliflower and guac is my go-to

I met with a new client today, I have my work cut out for me.

I keep the treadmill at around 1%, .5% if I’m very sore.

If I’m buying a marinade I like the Stubbs brand or Ponzu sauce. yum.

Guacamole is great with raw veggies, so is salsa. Not much isn’t good with guacamole!
Some of my favorite memories are baking with my mom.

So glad your foot is feeling better!!

I think that the Island Soyaki from Trader Joe’s is even better than the regular one. It has some other flavors thrown in that take it up a few notches. So good! I don’t run on the treadmill much but I usually have it at .5 or 1%! Depends on my workout though :)

Reply

Yay for your foot! Okay I could seriously eat guac with anything and even by itself. It’s one of my fave foods for sure. Usually I’ve just been running with no incline. Sometimes I’ll do hill workouts on it and do hill intervals.

Picking out Valentine’s for your class used to one of the hardest decisions in grade school…if only life were still that simple! I love teriyaki sauce (any brand) and those Grill Mates packets that you just add water and vinegar to.

Reply

That marinade looks amazing!! I am seriously making a trip to SLC just to get it! :) I can’t wait until my little one can help me more in the kitchen. I know she is going to love it! I honestly never set my treadmill on an incline when I run because it is just something I don’t think about, but I really need to give it a try.

When the temperature is above 40 degrees you consider it summer??? You’re crazy, Janae!! I’m so glad to see that your foot has no pain right now. Fingers crossed it continues to feel good while you run and in life in general!

When I run on the treadmill, I set it to 1.4… I don’t really have a reason for it, but that’s where I usually land!

My son has started standing on a a stool to “help” me bake. I can’t believe he’s already old enough for this. He loves decorating cookies the most!

Reply

I always set my incline to 1%. It’s habit from taking treadmill based class where 1% is always base incline, never 0!

We splurged and bought the mini playdohs so we’ll just be sticking labels to them. My daughter is in kindergarten and it doesn’t get much better than playdoh!

Reply

So happy to read that the foot is progressing in the right direction ;-) I’m not usually a treadmill runner but I will choose the treadmill to do my 12 X 400m tomorrow instead of icy sidewalks! It should be hard enough without any incline for this week!

Reply

So glad to hear about your foot! I usually set it from 0-1%. The streets are still covered in ice/slush so I will be doing my hill repeats on the treadmill tomorrow. Also, I made your s’mores bars for the Super Bowl and they were such a hit! Definitely my new favorite :)

Reply

Guacamole is good with pretty much anything.

I haven’t been able to use my treadmill for a while (it’s buried in the garage while we do some work on the house), but I usually kept it at .5%-1% unless I was doing hill work. Now I just run around my insanely hilly neighborhood.

Reply

I love guac with carrots. Okay, I love guac with anything but at least I can feel good about eating it with carrots.
I usually leave the treadmill set at 0 or 1 and then play with fast (for me) intervals. It’s the only way I can trick myself to staying on the treadmill.

Lemon, olive oil and oregano. Simple but so good on chicken or fish.
Monday matters…..when will I ever stop coughing? What’s up with my immune system?

I love to make a marinade mix with soy sauce, garlic and a delicious thick satay type base called ‘Jimmys’. It’s actually kind of a “secret recipe” sauce that you can pick up from Asian grocers in Australia. Adds a delicious authentic flavour. I always dip raw vegies into the mix as my stir fry is cooking. I always snack as I cook actually…no wonder I love cooking!

I’m a treadmill user and have the incline at .5 generally if just casually cruising along.

Ooh how exciting your birthday is coming up. Enjoy your special dates!

40 Inches?!?! I feel like I am practically 40 inches.

You know what bears out carrots and guac. Chips. Always chips. #carbloading

I cannot even tell you how much I freaking HATE Valentine’s as a recently dumped person. Not once, not ever in any relationship have I ever had a positive Valentine’s Day but never have I ever been so fresh and emotional out of a serious relationship before either. I’m going to end up spending the day sobbing and burning stuff. Just watch. It’s going to be ugly. (Cringe.)

That’s great that your foot is feeling better! My Monday Matter is that my toe joint still hurts and it has been two weeks since injuring it playing football. I am starting to wonder if it will ever be pain free – at the moment it still hurts to use full motion. How long was your recovery altogether? Are you needing to do stretches or anything to get full movement back? Mine never got red or bruised or swollen so I thought it would go away quickly but noooooo my body wants more rest! x

Hi Janae :)
I ve been quite lucky around here and the weather has been amazing! So no need for a treadmill – I mean not that i dont like it or anything :P LOL I actually really dont like the treadmill… As for my favourite marinade is a staple in our house: olive oli, balsamic vinegar, soya sauce, honey, salt, pepper and sweet paprika. I usually marinate chicken in it and then dump everything in a pan and let it glaze. Simple yet delicious!!

Reply

I don’t do a lot of marinade but I LOVE seasoning! We use Famous Daves seasoning on basically all meat! Also, Carrots dipped in guac are one of my main ways to eat guac but I also love dipping them in buffalo dip!

When you measure your child’s height — they are the same height as you and looking you in the eye — and you know they are NOT done growing yet — that’s a crazy feeling!!! Especially when you are not a short person and there are very few if any in your family that are taller than you. Secret – – – I’m actually kinda looking forward to having to look up at someone for a change!

Reply

Good luck with your foot. I’ve run on mine (after 2 weeks of not running). I still have a little pain in my toe and have to be gentle with landing.

Reply

So slow to comment but it’s been one of those weeks. I love carrots and guac! But lbh, guac pretty much tastes amazing with anything. Good Seasons Italian Dressing is a great marinade for chicken. I grew up with it and it’s so good. Also it’s just a great dressing in general and can make a really good veggie dip if you add the packet to sour cream.
