My definition of torture and HRG workouts all in one place!

Turns out the stair climber is even more difficult for me when I do it later on in the day compared to doing it in the morning.   I got in a quick 25 minute stair climber workout before moving on to part 2…

IMG 6071

PS I ran into Megan at the gym (it is strange how often we run into each other all around town) and she SWEARS by these HydroFlask water bottles (they keep your cold drinks cold for 24 hours?!) and so I just ordered one and told Brooke that this will be her birthday present to me.

IMG 6073

Then Brooke went to Costco with grandma

IMG 6076

and I hit up bootcamp.  I always know the workout is going to be especially tough when she brings out the towels.  We did these planks while alternating sliding our feet in and out for a minute straight at a time.  Oh, and also for the warm-up we did a FOUR MINUTE plank.

IMG 6080

I did not approve of Lindsey trying to escape the group photo post-workout.

IMG 6088

My definition of torture= wearing a sweaty sports bra for longer than 5 minutes after a workout.  I always bring a different one to change into after a workout if I know I am going somewhere because I can’t stand staying in a sweaty sports bra.  Rough problems over here.  Megan invited me to dinner with the girls and I happily attended.

IMG 6091

Thanks Megan for catching a super flattering picture of me attacking my dinner.

IMG 6093

Handstands all day, every day.

IMG 6096

For our pre-bed snack we finished off the almond butter jar with an apple.

IMG 6100

We are both getting hair cuts today.  I will probably cry when she cuts Brooke’s hair. Also, it is strange how I do not like in the slightest to wash/style my hair but it is one of my favorite things to do Brooke’s hair.

I’m with you on the sweaty sports bra issue – it needs to go as soon as I get home!

Love my klean Kanteen water bottle from Whole Foods and my kids always steal it! I have a hand-stander in my house too – she’s obsessed!

Reply

I have a Zojirushi vacuum mug. It keeps my hot drinks HOT for HOURS. It’s amazing. I’ve never had one work so well. I don’t drink alot of cold drinks (hurts my teeth) but mu husband uses his for cold and it works equally well for that.

I’m terrible about cutting my hair regularly. I really need to do it soon though because my hairstylist is having a baby soon!

Thursday workout is supposed to be 8 miles, but I am giving blood today so it will depend on how I feel after that!

Reply

Haha I’ve never thought about the sweaty sports bra situation! Maybe that makes me gross? What’s torture is that FOUR minute plank?! The most I’ve ever gotten was 3 and that was literally the whole work out and then I was done :)

I have a track workout this afternoon and I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a ladder with 1.25 warm up 2×200’s, 2×400’s, 2×800’s, 2×400’s, 2×200, and a 1.25 cool down. I’m all about changing up my workouts so thanks for the reference!

Ah, so happy to have all of these in one place. THANK YOU!

Reply

I just got a camelback water bottle and I think it’s my favorite ever. I used to have one of those old Gatorade bottles so this one feels super luxe to me. My workout for today is swimming for some cross training!

Reply

I’d love to see a post on how doing non-running things such as boot camp and whatnot have helped improve your running and how you still stay injury-free with it all. I’m always nervous to do boot camp types of classes because I’m afraid they will wear me out and make me too sore for my tougher workouts. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Reply

Thanks for regrouping the workouts and making them easily accessible! I’m always on the lookout for variety! I bought 21 day fix for the workout dvds recently and I like that they are short (ab. 30 minutes) but they do work some muscles that I don’t use too often as a runner (I did upper fix this morning and really liked it). As you know, DVDs are convenient for mommies! I also ordered P90x3 to include as cross-training in my half-marathon training program (starting in 3 weeks)…can’t wait to try them!

Reply

I just finished my Thursday workout…5 mile easy run. Longest run in 4 months (stress fracture). Recovery feels good!

We have the same pre-bed snack :)

Reply

Four minute plank as a warm up? That boot camp sounds like a good butt-kicker! I need to get my hair cut soon—I have such long hair that it can go for months without needing a cut and then I get lazy about it.

Reply

i could use a post on taming the sweet tooth. I wake up with great intensions, and by after dinner my sweet morsel turns into 10 sweet morsels.

I get a haircut once a year. I’m so embarrassed to say that. It’s naturally curly so no body can really tell. Basically just get knots and use more conditioner than an entire salon. :) I used to color it auburn which meant every month but I went back to my natural brunette and feel so happy to not have to color anymore. I have red highlights naturally. They are good enough :)
Reader request: how many hours per week would you say you spend with your blog?

Post request – Have you tried yoga? i ‘ve read many articles about how yoga is great for runners and i was wondering what is your take on it?

My kind of torture is anything that includes burpees … I want to cry every time i do them! I dont have a favourite water bottle at the moment but i am on the look to get one. As for hair i don’t get them cut often but do colour them (being a redhaid isnt easy but i love it!!…) once every 45-50 days. Workout for today is a 5 mile run that i skipped yesterday due to feeling meehh …

Also THANKS A MILLION for all the work outs here i m definitely bookmarking this post!

Hydroflasks are the Best! Made in Oregon and they really do work well! My sister out a bunch of ice in hers and 14 hours later on a road trip in the summer there was still ice! I think I have 3 , all different sizes and colors. You can order a lid with a straw for the wide mouth ones or go to REI, they sells the bottles there and the lids. I’m slightly obsessed with them:)

Reply

Thanks for compiling your workouts!

I never do anything to my hair, and I only cut it when it starts looking ratty. Actually, this time around, I actually had my boyfriend trim my hair instead of going in because I couldn’t bear the thought of spending money.

Reply

I was hoping with this new “Yeti” phase, Tervis tumblers would become cheaper… nope still ‘spensive ;) I still like Tervis’s the best!

I usually get my hair trimmed every 3-4 months, and I’m pretty sure I am overdue. I’m ready to be a full brunette again, my blonde balayage needs to go bye.

Can’t wait to see Brooke’s cut, is this her first one?!

ps stair masters are no joke. 25 mins? (insert praising hands emoji)

Reply

Oh I so feel you on the sweaty sports bra I don’t know how people do it because I’m over here like get me out of my own sweat STAT!

Reply

I haven’t really thought about wearing a sweaty sports bra after a workout probably because I come home and shower right away but you’re right, it isn’t a good feeling!
My favorite water bottle is my Nathan 32 oz. I fill it up 2-3 times per day and take it everywhere with me!
I get my hair cut and highlighted every 10 weeks. I love a fresh haircut!
I did a 5 mile fartlek run this morning and it was a great workout!

Reply

I have been with my same trusty Nalgene Everyday water bottle for 11 years now and I will probably never give it up unless I somehow manage to lose it. Todd and I both like our water at room temperature, unless we are in the middle of a super hot ultra like the Badwater 135 or Keys 100. We then LOVE the ice cold stuff.

Reply

Yesterday I was almost in tears ’cause my daughter needed my help with her homework before I could change out of my sweaty sports bra.

I used to get my hair cut about once a year. Then gray hit and now it’s every 10 weeks or so. I just went way too long because of our crazy move and wound up wearing my hair in a bun for about a month.

Reply

I have the Swell water bottle that keeps you water cold for 24 hours too! I just got home from a 5:45am body pump class!! I color my hair myself a couple times a year and just just it a few times (probably 2 or 3) times per year.

Reply

I just bought a new waterbottle on sale from Athleta last week and LOVE it!

Reply

I agree on the sweaty sports bra! I also have to put in a different headband right away because I hate wearing my sweaty one haha. I love the Camelbak water bottles and I just got a Life Factory one!

Reply

Ughh I gotta go to the pool today for my workout! I always dread going swimming (especially in the winter) but then always feel great afterwards!

Good luck with the haircut! I get my haircut way less than I should and get yelled at by the stylist every time :)

Reply

I hate sweaty sports bras too! It makes me cold and icky feeling!

Reply

Oh my gosh I am the same way about sweaty clothes after I workout!! I cannot STAND them… especially a sweaty sports bra! I ALWAYS have a change of clothes in my bag. I dont know how people stay in sweaty clothes for longer than 2 minutes and dont wanna die haha

Reply

Today I’m working on finding an alternative to running for a maternity work out because my running belt still hasn’t come! I’m worried they lost it in the mail. Anyway, the plan is to find something I can do at home with either kids climbing on me or during nap time. It will be interesting

Reply

Please put your workouts all in a link/tab on the top of your blog!? That way we don’t have to look for a random post in the future if we want to find them again. Just a thought!

Reply

I will get on that asap!! THANKS JENNI!

Reply

I have a Thermos water bottle that’s bluetooth enables. The app on my phone tracks how much water I drink throughout the day and reminds me when I’m falling behind. I’ve tried a lot of water bottles and this one is my favorite especially during the winter when I tend to not drink enough H20.

Reply

Thanks for this great post of workouts! Id love to hear what you typically use for fuel during a race and your go-to pre and post race or tough workout meals. Happy Thursday!

Reply

I have a board on Pinterest just for workouts. It’s great when I’m not feeling very inspired.

This morning I turned my early morning workout alarm off and said out loud “it’s official, I’m taking an unscheduled rest day!” and went back to sleep. What the heck?? So now I guess I’ll run a few miles tonight when I have time. Big bummer.
Thanks for the recap of workouts in one post. Is there an app that people use to make nice graphics for their workout listings? If so, please share!! Workouts are always more effective when they look good :)

Reply

lol! I seriously laughed out loud! Love how you allowed it (rest day) for yourself but then was bummed later on. Sounds like me!

Reply

eh, it’s probably for the best. If I don’t run in the morning, it doesn’t get done! Resting up for a long run tomorrow. Enjoy your evening!

Reply

Wow another reader must have read my mind, because I was just looking through old posts to find some good workouts! Thanks for taking the time to post them all here, it will be really helpful for me at the gym later :)

Reply

I LOVE my klean kanteen water bottle!!!

I, sadly, get my hair coloured every 6 weeks…my hair cut? Oh, maybe twice a year…MAYBE. lol

Thursdays = tempo run. Warm-up + 5 miles at 7:30-7:03 pace.

Reply

My workout today was 3 x snooze button repeats + 1 alarm reset. Oops.
Guess I’ll be doing double duty tomorrow morning.

My water bottle is the Camelbak Edy. Which I really like. It has a straw which makes it easy to use while I’m running on the treadmill without stopping.

Reply

My favorite water bottle is one with water in it. But I love the idea of one that keeps it cold for 24 hours!

We got a few inches of snow where I live and the city doesn’t do a great job of plowing so the side streets I live on are still slippery and most of the sidewalks are not shoveled but I love to run outside so I am looking for a good running workout that I can do in the snow. Any ideas?

Reply

LOVE LOVE LOVE my HydroFlask. I got mine for Christmas. I also ordered the straw because I drink more when I have a straw.

I keep it at my desk at work. I put ice in at 8am and when I return the next day there is still ice in it when I go refill. You will love it.

Reply

Oh I feel your pain. I put off my daughters first haircut until she was three and she desperately needed it at that point.
I’m intrigued but this hydra flask! We are a family of camelbak eddy users. My son and daughter have one to keep at school and my son who has kidney failure has one to carry around home as well. I keep one with me all the time. Drinking my water from a glass just irritates me. I’m wierd I know.
Thank you for putting all the workouts in one place! I was just telling my hubs I wanted to do some of them but would have to go hunting through old post. It must have taken you a long time and I appreciate it. I’ve pinned this post so now it’ll be easy peasy to find them all in the future!

Reply

I have a request!!! I’m not sure if you’ve done a post on it before (I could search but that just takes some effort ;)) but I’m curious about alternate fueling on long runs. Basically things other than Gu and what people have to say about it. I remember one of your friends ate dates as fuel? My son’s first haircut (at 11 months) made me so sad but now we have to get his hair cut every 7-8weeks because it grows so insanely fast.

Reply

I love any and all of my Nalgene water bottles. They are nothing fancy but they come in a variety of sizes and colors, they handle a LOT of wear and tear, and can go in the dishwasher.

Sadly, I cut my hair about once a year. I’ve stopped coloring it completely because I went just as long between touch-ups!

My Thursday workout is a five-mile tempo run :)

Reply

I have always drank cold water but my acupuncturist explained to me that Asian people – specifically Chinese do not drink cold liquids or eat cold food as it literally does not digest until the food is warmed up and that N. American people have much more digestion issues because of the cold stuff we slam back. She said if I was eating cold food (salad, ice cream etc) to drink hot tea with at least and drink room temp water…Yeah I was for sure “eyebrows up“ but I have been doing it for 2 weeks and my stomach actually feels much better. I gave it a shot and now I think I am sold. I miss my icy drinks but do not miss my post-meal bloat.

Haircut – 1 -2 times per year. I find an excellent pinterest haircut, do it, hate and go back to long. Repeat. I don`t color ..yet. The greys are marching in so it will be likely next month :(

Have a hard workout tonight. My coach times my 1 mile and its a track workout…and I am not feeling super great. Plus tomorrow is a Vo2 max test and a 3d run analysis, so I was hoping to feel good for that.

Have a an excellent day- excited to see the new haircuts!

Reply

I love S’well water bottles! They come in awesome colors and patterns and keep cold drinks cold for 24 hours and hot drinks hot for 12!
I’m going to try and fit in a Tone it Up video tonight! This week has been too crazy busy. I cannot wait for the weekend!

Reply

I have a hot pink hydroflask and it is the BEST. Ice in it stays ice for a full day. I do hot yoga (105 degrees hot) and NOTHING warms up in that bottle.

Reply

Every Thursday I do a group run for six miles and then we eat breakfast together at different restaurants around the Nashville/Brentwood area. It’s a great way to start the day!!

I use a camel am’

Reply

LOVE my HydroFlask! It also keeps drinks incredibly hot for a longggg time!

Reply

Sweaty sports bras are the worst!! And I am just like you! I love doing my daughter’s hair so much more than I like doing my own.

Reply

I love my camelback, I think it’s the straw on top that folds up or down. (It’s the little things). It has a large opening so I can put ice in if I want it. I only like my water cold in the summer. I prefer it cool or room temp otherwise.

I hate sitting in a sweaty sports bra and top.

I color my hair every 4 – 5 weeks, the gray drives me crazy otherwise. My hair is curly and I’ve grown it back out so I cut it every 3 months just to keep it healthy.

Reply

Um hydroflask is seriously the best water bottle on the planet. I am a huge water bottle junkie! The bigger the better! The less I have to make trips to fill it up the more I’ll drink so I tend to go with ones that are tall and hold a lot.

Reply

I would really love to read more about staying healthy while running. I feel like I’m doing all the right stuff but I’m still suffering from shin splints and we only have one sports medicine doctor in my city :(

I like water bottles with straws! Camelbak for the win and they were really great when I needed to use my warranty!

I color my hair by a professional maybe 1-2 times a year, but I use box stuff for my greys about every 8 weeks. I get a cut about every 3-4 months. I love getting my hair done, but a full time job, and 3 kiddos can make finding the time tough.

Thursday workout was supposed to be a 55 min. tempo run, but was cut short to 20 when my shin wasn’t letting up at all.

Reply

Any recommendations for elliptical workouts? When I’ve had to use it, I’ve basically just been turning the resistance way up and going for as long as I can, but that definitely gets boring.

Fortunately, today I was NOT relegated to the elliptical, because my shin splints are feeling 95% better! Got in a nice, long 14 miles this morning – the farthest I’ve gone since my marathon!

Reply

I know I’m going to cry when I have to cut my baby’s hair!! I don’t know why, maybe because it reminds me she’s getting big. I’m super lazy with my own. I got an ombré so it looks like I’m lazy on purpose. ;-)
Hydro flasks are the best! I actually posted about one in a random blog post this morning. I have the cold one for water and a hot one for coffee or hot chocolate. It almost keeps it too hot. You’re going to love it!
I can’t wait to try some of these workouts!!! Tonight’s workout plan is Susanne Bowen Barre with my new weight ball that came yesterday. I’m way too excited about this thing.

Reply

Oooo! I love all the workouts in one place post! I am totally saving this one. Thanks!

Reply

We are obsessed with Hydroflasks! All four of us have one with backups. The ice never melts and it keeps drinks cold for an eternity. Same goes for hot drinks. Amazing. You will love, love, love it. We started a bit of a Hydroflask following in San Diego since we are walking advertisements for them (we never go anywhere without them) and have turned a ton of people onto these bottles. Enjoy! Oh, and if you use essential oils at all, a couple drops of lemon or lime in these babies is the best treat after a sweaty run. Talk about refreshing!

Reply

I’ve heard about those water bottles a few times now. Might be time to get my own!

Reply

I had to re-read that a few times…4 minute plank!?!? Srsly cruel!!

I live BKR bottles because they are glass (protected by a silicone sleeve)…but they don’t insulate so so well. A few of my friends swear by their hydro flask! I think you’ll be very happy. Nice job, Brooke!!!!

Awesome and killer workouts…thanks for sharing!!!!

Today’s workout: 30 minute run, 60 minute hot yoga bootcamp, 75 minute hot vinyasa flow. And now I’m basically recreating that photo of you inhaling your food!!!

Reply

Hydro Flask bottles are THE BEST EVER!!! I have two and one of them is with me at all times every single day. My water stays cold and I love it! Unfortunately they don’t fit in cup holders, and when dropped on the floor they can do some serious damage (to the floor ?)…so watch your toes!

Reply

Sweaty sports bras ARE a torture mechanism!!! Bleh… wearing sweaty anything post workout drives me bonkers. Brooke has such long hair! My little boys have hardly any – never have had a ton. If we have a girl some day, I hope I can at least pony it by the time she’s 3 :)

Post Idea: Marathon Fueling – favorite GUs (or whatever you like best) and the strangest ones you have tried (like maple bacon GU?!).

Reply

Aw Brooke’s hair is so pretty! My friend is always braiding her daughter’s hair and its about the length of Brooke’s. I cute my hair super short (for me) last summer and now I miss it terribly. No haircuts for me for awhile!

Reply

I really need to cut my hair more often. I only go about 1-2 times per year tops! Definitely bad, I know. I used to get highlights once in a while, but haven’t done that in a few years now. I guess I’m pretty low maintenance!

Reply

Hydro flasks are amazing! I like all my drinks ridiculously cold. I put ice in my 40 oz. hydro flask and it will not melt all the way for like 48 hours. Even with 5-6 fill ups. I have probably tripled the amount of water I drink just because I have ICE water by me at all times.

Reply

I haven’t dyed my hair since 2007 and I rarely get it cut now. Apparently I went over 30 weeks in between cuts last time. Although I will probably never do that again! My hair looks so much better now, lol.

Reply

Yeah a four minute plank sounds not only like torture, but also impossible for all us mere mortals…

Thursday workout for me was a 4 mile slow run, followed by eating a big chicken dinner :)

Reply

I have an old purple bottle that I tote around with me. It works, but I see the investment in something fancier. I wish I spent as much time on my hair as I do my makeup. Makeup is fun, hair isn’t for me. I did some spinning and strength training this morning. It was fun!

Reply

Is it weird that I chuckled because you said “the girls” after talking about sports bras?! Hehe!

And, um…Brooke is an excellent birthday shopper. Hydroflasks rock!!!

Reply

Sweaty sports bras don’t bother me. But it’s probably because I live in Florida and you start sweating before you can get 10 feet out the door so it’s kind of just part of every day life?

I should get my highlights done every 8-12 weeks but I often go longer because I’m lazy and my friend does it at cost (of product) so I hate to bother her all the time. I’m way over due currently. It’s been 5 months! People keep telling me they like my ombre color….it’s really just because my naturally dark blonde hair has grown out so much from the light blonde highlights!

Reply

You at bootcamp —> best. ever.

Reply

I also hate staying in a sweaty sports bra longer than I have to. It’s gross (especially when it starts to get cold)!

Reply

I have a Hydroflask and LOVE IT! I got the purple 40 oz. one for Christmas along with the straw attachment, and it seriously keeps my water cold for at least 24 hours. Best invention ever!

Reply

I love love love my HydroFlask!! During the hot summers in Fresno it truly did come to my rescue.

Reply

I have been trying to include some strength training in my marathon training and have found that 30 minute at home videos work well with two little ones.
Looking for a good water bottle too!

Reply

Swell water bottles are great too, and they come in tons of fun colors and patterns! (Fun fact, they keep items carbonated, and the large one can hold a full bottle of champagne! How can that be wrong?!?)

Reply

Brooke’s hair is so gorgeous!
