Did you see this?  “The marathon standards were changed from 2:15:00 to 2:19:00 for men, and from 2:42:00 to 2:45:00 for the women.”  There are 9 men and 31 women that will now be able to compete in the trials because of the qualification time change.

Ran 8 miles this morning which is the longest I have in weeks! Also did a core video and I can already tell I’m going to be sore.

Not sure how I feel about the time changes for the trials. Ill have to read more into it.

I have a short run planned, then lots of errands and figuring out secret Santa gifts.

That life size snow globe is the coolest thing ever!

I have a 5 or 6 miler planned for after work. It’s really odd temperatures here…………..was 33 for my marathon in mid November, and the last few days all the way thru monday it is in the high 60’s! Usually we are around 50 this time of year……….super weird. I am wearing shorts to work this week……feels weird at Christmas time! Great for running though!

Spinning this morning then finishing my holiday decorating. I’m so behind on everything! How are you feeling by the way?

4 miles this morning before heading off to practice with my Oiselle team for our marathon relay in January! After is my step-son’s 8th birthday party at our house! Happy Saturday!

Reply

No running for me today! Tomorrow is my final half marathon of the year so I’m resting up and enjoying my Saturday. Have a great weekend. I hope Santa brings you both exactly what you want in just a couple of weeks :)

Hmm not sure how I feel about the time change since I don’t know anything more about it! If they just recently changed it that would be disappointing for runners that dropped out of races because they wouldn’t meet the *old* standard. I wouldn’t know how they feel though because it’s not even a possibility to get close to that time!

I’m heading to see Mockingjay part 2, then going for a run this afternoon!

Studying for finals…lame. I’m sure I’ll find an excuse to get out of the house though haha! Maybe to that awesome Santa mailbox! Is that at Riverwoods?? My kids like that weird Mim Mim show too!

I feel like whatever decision track and field made people would challenge them. How would they have known the cut would have gotten easier, you know? It stinks for athletes in that close 2:45 range but they weren’t targeted. I don’t know, I definitely think it’s a sticky situation for everyone.

I’m not sure how I feel about the change but I kinda can’t wait for people to start speaking out on it.

I think I’m going to jog two miles with boy friend today as my first post-marathon run! He’s not a runner so it’s a miracle that he agreed to do it with me and two miles is his max!

Reply

I guess it really doesn’t matter because the ones with the fastest times will ultimately go to the Olympics. It just gives some who felt like they fell short of their goal a bonus opportunity :)
I am taking off from running today. I have a dentist appointment and then I am going to a gift wrapping party where everyone bought gifts for inner city kids with special needs. We wrap them and label them and then Santa delivers them. It’s a wonderful thing to do this time of year. Puts me in the spirit. Giving is way better than receiving.

I think the same – those with the fastest times will go to the Olympics and realistically I doubt those top times will surpass 2:35 max. on a bad day. But sometimes people do shave a lot of minutes off of their marathon times (look at Sara Hall’s 1rst and 2nd marathon times for example). I say look at the positive in it – some more people can give it a go!

Reply

Ok, now you have me trying to google Sara Halls first and second marathon times. I can’t find them. What were they ?? :). Thanks!

Reply

Sure!

Her first marathon was in March of this year and she finished in 2:48 (which was a huge disappointment for her – her words – and she had a rough race with the downhills and heat).

Her second race was in October of this year in 2:31…she chopped 17 minutes off. She was obviously fit and ready in March, but it goes to show what a bad day can do and that it can happen to even the elite.

Reply

Thanks so much! Wow, I had no idea that her first marathon was this year! That is crazy how well she did the 2nd time!

I am super pumped about the trials! Some of my friends have a shot at qualifying in the future with this time change and I would LOVE to go cheer them on!

Front loaded my mileage this week so I could take Sunday off- need some R&R, that’s for sure.

Also, good song with a good message about overcoming trials (something you totally rock at)- Invincible by Kelly Clarkson!

I hope you and Brooke get what you asked for at Christmas! Those egg rolls look really good too!!
I am not sure how I feel about the time change. I do think it’s nice that more people will be included if they didn’t make the previous time by just a couple minutes. I’m curious to see what others will say about it.
Today I have a six mile run, shopping with my mom for some last minute Christmas stuff, a birthday party, and I’m ending the night with a holiday party at one of my coworker’s house. Pretty busy, but it will be fun :) I hope you and Brooke enjoy your Saturday!

Went running for the first time in about a month last night. It was nice to get back but I felt the shin pain after. Crazy how a mile can kill you after only a month.

Reply

I’m doing my longest run ever today– 15 miles. :)

Lots of holiday parties that I’ll be shuffling around to tonight! Usually I bring wine and cookies to holiday parties but this year, I’m gonna try something a little different. Spending the day baking up fresh bread to distribute around!

I’ll probably run 6-8 today … Weather and toe dependent! It’s crummy out and my toe is still not 100% better yet. Why do injuries take so long to heal?!?

Hope you have a great weekend!

Holy cow Brooke’s hair is getting so long! That last picture before the egg rolls (drool) is just insane. Hair envy!!

Plans today: going snoe-showing with some friends at a very snowy Crater Lake. I have about 5 pairs of leggings I’m wearing under my snow pants. I hate being cold!

Happy weekend-ing to you and Brooke!

Is that cod dish a Blue Apron recipe? I need to get that one. It looks delicious!

Plans today involve napping, finally going to see Mockingjay Part 2. And more resting. :) I’m coming off my worst IBS flare ever and after spending three weeks just doing what I can to make it through the day, I’m so ready for a down day!

Reply

My plans today include catching up on some things around the house after a crazy hectic week at work, and then heading out to some stores to register for my wedding!

I’m super excited to watch the trials on TV and as of right now I see no issue with allowing in runners. It depends a lot on the field and possibly not enough people qualified with the previous standards. 2:45 is still very fast! Overall, though, it’s not going to impact who goes to the Olympics—they’ll all be in the low 2:20’s.
No running today—off for a six mile hike in the snowy mountains!

Reply

Aw, that’s so exciting that Brook sent a letter to Santa :) I’m getting together for a 30th birthday lunch with friends :)

I danced my booty off last night, and then volunteered for Girls on the Run 5k this morning (as a water girl), so my body just hurts all over. I may not be running today!

Reply

I ran a Jingle Bell 5k this morning and now it is time to get ready for my running girls party tonight that ends at my house for dessert. The time change for Olympic marathon qualifying times makes perfect sense to me. If you have not run many, and have a breakthrough race, you would have the opportunity to qualify. I like it!

Reply

Pam thanks, my thoughts exactly re: the Olympic qualifying times!

Reply

Look at Brooke and her fancy taste buds! I don’t even think I’d like cod, haha. Happy Saturday, Janae!

Reply

Wow, I know some people who will really love that info about the qualifying times!

I am trying to rest as much as possible today. I have a half tomorrow morning and am trying not to get anxiety about it. I went to the expo this morning, so now I’m just going to relax and not think about it!

Reply

Ooof just got back from a hard track workout!! I love your pants in the photo from when you were watching tv with Brooke!!
If anybody gets the chance could you please check out my blog: https://sweetpotatoesrunner.wordpress.com
Thank you!!

My only thoughts on the Olympic trials time change: “Oh nice, now it’s ever-so-slightly less impossible for me to one day qualify for the Olympics!”

I did my last really long run before my marathon today! 20 miles. It was not as easy as some of my long runs have been, but I got it done. The only other plans I have today are hanging out at my church’s college group Christmas party all afternoon!

Also, I swear Brooke looks more like you every day. That hair.

Ran my favorite 10 mile loop on Oahu this morning. Tantalus mountain (1500′ of climbing in the first 5 miles, 1500′ of descending on the second 5) and I had my 2nd best ever! 5 weeks post marathon and I’m feeling really strong these days. The Honolulu Marathon is tomorrow – I’m going to enjoy spectating!

Those egg rolls look delicious!

I ran 16 miles this morning. I had a really hard time mentally preparing for this run yesterday. I was so exhausted last night, that I just wanted to sleep in and enjoy myself today. But I started looking at the Dopey Challenge FB group and seeing how people were so excited, that it helped me want to get out and run. I also realized that this upcoming week is going to be a big week for mileage and at the end of the week I start my taper. So after all this, I’m getting excited and my run didn’t go so bad! Woo woo!!!!

Reply

Wow that is a big change! How intense!!!! Today I did 5 miles early this morning and it felt great. I LOVE having my workout done early!

Reply

I wonder why they changed it, but hey, I’m sure those runners aren’t complaining!

Brooke is looking more and more grown up! She is too cute Janae :)

I’ve been keeping my mileage pretty low- about 3-4.5 miles per run, but it maaaaay be time to kick it up a notch– with a half in 5 weeks and all…..

Reply

That cod looks delicious – the holidays are making me all kinds of lazy for cooking real meals, but I’ve got the baking on LOCK.

3 miles today, long run tomorrow since I worked this morning. It’s been 70ish and sunny which is crazy!

Reply

I feel like those above me…not sure changing the standards matters. Sure, there is a chance one of those 9 men or 31 women could end up in first place at the trial…but more than likely if they’re running a 245 marathon now, they’re not going to shave off 10 minutes by February to win the thing. So, it’s sort of a mute point if you ask me.

Reply

I’m just interested in actually watching the Trials because I’m a newish runner so I never found running interesting before but now I’m very interested!
I just got off from a 7-hour shift and now it is a rest day from running so I will head to the gym for lifting. Unseasonably warm where I live also!

Reply

I ran a little over three miles today on the treadmill then had a great body pump session at my gym.

I’m indifferent in regards to the Olympic qualifying times. I don’t really know much about that. I think anyone that can run that fast is AMAZING!

We did some Christmas shopping today. I bought gifts for family and gifts for me!!

Reply

I only ran 5 miles this past week. I am hoping to get more next week but if I don’t I am not stressed about it. Have a good weekend!

What a fun day!
