Last minute, every meal and training for nothing week #1.

I hope you had a fabulous weekend and that it was filled with some of your favorite things.

Brooke was beyond excited to wear her Olivia dress that her grandma in California sent to her in the mail.  We’ve read this book just a few dozen times together so this made her weekend.

IMG 3379

All of my meals were eaten out of a bowl/cup yesterday—>  starting with oatmeal at my mom’s house for breakfast.

IMG 3366

Followed by 5 cups of soup after church.  Kneaders chicken noodle soup owns a part of my heart.

IMG 3375

We had salad from a bowl too.  My brother-in-law makes the best salads = 80% toppings and 20% lettuce.

IMG 3381

My mom’s fabulous taco soup was for dinner with the family.

IMG 3383

And then a little ice cream for dessert in a bowl.  Brooke and I brought over our favorite Fireside S’mores ice cream (Tillamook for life) for the family to experience.  Just trying to share some joy with them.

IMG 3384

My nephew loves joining in on the laughter these days.

IMG 3388

PS this weekend we made Brooke’s idea of a perfect cookie—>  sprinkles, frosting and chocolate in each and every bite.  My family loved them! Recipe HERE!

Training for nothing currently week #1:

No running, some stair climbing, a bootcamp class and some core workouts.  Lots of extra sleep and maybe I’ll try out a few miles at some point this week.  Maybe:)

A picture from just a few feet away from the finish line of the marathon last weekend.  I was really tired if you can’t tell.

Firstly, that Olivia dress is ADORABLE! Kudos to the Cali gramma.

Best part of the weekend was teaching the Primary kids Christmas songs with handbells. I had enough bells for all of them. It astounds me how even the three year olds can view the bell chart and hit the notes at the right time. I’m sort of grinchy but those little guys warmed my cold heart.

Mostly done with Christmas shopping but the teenagers in my house usually remember what they ‘really’ want for Christmas about two days before Christmas. They will be my undoing.

My new oatmeal thing is to pour a vanilla protein shake over the oats and microwave it. Yum!

I did almost all of my Christmas shopping (online) this weekend, and it’s a good feeling to be almost done! Now I need to hope everything gets here this week so I have time to wrap it all before traveling for the holidays:)
I started eating oatmeal before long runs when I was training for my last marathon. I kept it really plain and boring because I feel like adding anything could mess with my stomach before a run!

Reply

Pace Crate looks so cool. Almost as cool as Birchbox!
I love eating oatmeal with banana and peanut butter as toppings.

Reply

I just have a few little things to buy for Christmas, so I’m pretty close to being done. I shop 99% online! My favorite part of the weekend was going out to lunch with my parents yesterday. My hubs was visiting a friend all weekend, so it was nice of my parents to come entertain me ;) I love oatmeal! Peanut butter in oatmeal is heavenly… add some chocolate chips to the mix and who needs dessert? (I do… but still good)

Reply

If you are tired in that pic I can’t tell.

I am almost done with Christmas shopping. I have all my big presents purchased and just need to pick up one more thing and a few gift cards. I used to eat oatmeal all the time, but I haven’t been eating it as much lately. Just yesterday, I was thinking I should go to the store and pick some up, though.

Reply

1. Christmas shopping finished, except stocking stuffers.

2. Special K vanilla with almonds

3. Yes! Blueberries and walnuts

Best part of my weekendwas FINISHING my 5th marathon because it was a dreadful day for me… Felt overtrained and tired at a cellular level. Missed my time goal by a whopping 24 minutes and I didn’t even care. Although, my daughter, ever the optimist, reminded me of the bright side, “At least you didn’t die!” So, there is that… i didn’t die! Now, time for rest.

Last food eaten from a bowl was my breakfast oatmeal this morning! Raisins, walnuts, and fresh raspberries added!

Only the little stuff left for shopping- stocking stuffers, etc. Merry Christmas!

Reply

LAURIE!!! Huge congrats on finishing your 5th marathon even when you were overtraining/exhausted. You are STRONG mentally and physically:) Enjoy the time off.. I know I am!!!

Reply

That is the best kind of salad! Toppings are the best part! I love Brooke’s dress, she looks adorable, as usual!

Best part of my weekend, it was my birthday and we had terrible weather, which is my favorite, so we stayed in and watched Christmas movies and I got in a good treadmill run!

Reply

Eating out of bowls is more fun and less messy for me!

Reply

I can’t believe they send you apparel in those boxes that’s actually really cool. I’ve seen the ones with gels and headbands and what not, but that would be even more fun!

Yum, you’ve had a good weekend of eating! Gosh, what haven’t I eaten in a bowl recently? We go through bowl and spoons like crazy in this house. This weekend I had chili, chicken soup, and a salad for my bowl highlights.

I’m a diehard oatmeal fan. I usually put cocao powder!

Reply

The best part of my weekend was my half yesterday and having my family there. They’re the best people I know.

I really like oatmeal, especially flavor a like connamon brown sugar. And it smells heavenly!!

Reply

My favorite part of the weekend was watching my kids with Santa!

Oh girl, haven’t bought one Christmas present. Should be interesting this year ?

I LOVE bowl meals! My current fave is quinoa with tilapia and tomatoes and avocados (ya, I said avocados…my least favorite food has become part of my regular meal planning! Who am I?!) With some delish homemade tomatillos dressing I keep in my fridge all the time. I make it with coconut milk and without mayo so it is super healthy and scrumptious! But my classic favorite bowl meal is zoodles with homemade red meat sauce. Oh mama! If zucchini’s weren’t like $50 a piece right now, I’d still be eating it like 3 times a week.

Reply

I’m almost done with all of my Christmas shopping—I just need to buy my mom’s gift and then I’m done!
I love oatmeal and have it every morning for breakfast. Chia seeds and fruit are my favorite add-ins.
Last things I ate from a bowl was, well, oatmeal!

Reply

What was the best part of your weekend? my six mile run yesterday with temps that were about 60 at 8am — I live in Ohio, it’s never 60 degrees in December — and a coffee date w/ my good friends — AND walking the dogs (love those 4 legged family members)

Have you finished up your Christmas shopping or are you still shopping away? i have about 3 things left to get — still need to wrap !

Last thing that you ate from a bowl? a Klondike bar (so that it would be less messy)

Are you an oatmeal person? What do you like to add in your oatmeal lately? do not like oatmeal – something about the texture and the temp — give a good old bowl of cereal with cold milk

Reply

I love oatmeal but there hasn’t been enough of it in my life lately! I need to change that!

Reply

Brooke is SO cute in her Olivia dress!
Best part of my weekend was celebrating my step-son’s birthday!
Last thing I ate from a bowl, Cinnamon Life cereal.
I like my oatmeal with a bit of brown sugar, almond milk and cinnamon.

Reply

oatmeal every morning since the day I moved to the States in August 2013.
I like it simple: I only add honey and a spoonful of peanut butter.

Reply

I finally put up my Christmas tree this weekend! Just a little behind ;)

I just had broccoli and cheddar soup from Panera in a bowl this weekend. YUM!

And….procrastination station right here–Havent even started my Christmas shopping yet. But I will this week!!

And I am so glad you shared that box! I’ve been looking for a good runners subscription box! :)

Reply

I am just off my first marathon and am not running yet either. I have some aches and pains that need to go away first HA! Brooke’s dress is about the cutest thing ever! I love oatmeal – always topped with bananas, peanut butter and cinnamon.

Reply

My husband and I were in California for fun this weekend! I am almost done shopping just a few more things to get. I love oatmeal with bananas, raisins, nuts, peanut butter, honey. Yum!

Reply

The best part of my weekend was playing golf with my husband yesterday! It was 67 degrees outside! Crazy for the East Coast!!
I’m pretty much done with Christmas shopping! We did almost all of it on-line this year!
I love oatmeal. Just had some this morning :)

Also – Tillamook ice cream is the BEST!! Go Oregon!!! :)

Reply

My dearest Catie… your weather is AWESOME right now… can Brooke and I move in with you:)

Reply

Yes please!!! Ryan won’t mind!!and if you don’t come here, I want to come there! I really do want to come visit you in Utah… it’s been years since I said I would come and visit!!!

Reply

SERIOUSLY. Come. We will ski and eat and run and take Brooke places and eat froyo. I’m serious.

Reply

Have to finish Christmas shopping tonight! I LOVE oatmeal all year round. My favorite combo is oats with sliced strawberries and shredded coconut.

Reply

Training for nothing is the best kind of training. You get to relax and not get worried on a specific goal. I approve.

I was actually just looking for a cookie recipe so maybe I’ll try this one out.

Reply

From an oatmeal expert:
-oats+maple syrup+diced apple+raisins+plain yogurt+granola+walnuts+pumpkin seeds
mind=blown

Reply

okay. now I am drooling. your combination sounds HEAVENLY Erica!

Reply

If I could eat soup every meal I would!!! Especially now that its getting colder. Those cookies look fantastic!! So festive = my fave!

Reply

I am most DEFINITELY an oatmeal person. I like to add PB2, some chocolate protein powder & chocolate chips. It’s as close as I’ll ever get to cookie dough for breakfast. Especially if I make it overnight oats style & eat it cold. YUM.

Christmas shopping is 99% done, mostly because I convince my friends and family we should go out & do something fun together & forget gifts. There is just never all that much I need.

Reply

My 3 year old has that dress! She is obsessed!

Reply

AHHHH that is so awesome! Cutest dress ever!

Reply

I have all my shopping done except for my husbands. He’s pretty hard to shop for.

I hat oatmeal. I craved it when I was pregnant with my second kid but any time I tried to eat it I’d throw it up. I can’t get past the texture. And maybe that there’s not a lot of flavor or something.

Reply

I ate cashew kale chickpea soup from a bowl last night recipe here -> http://skinnyfitalicious.com/cashew-kale-veggie-chickpea-soup/

I also had yogurt with strawberries from a bowl. Lots of bowl action around here too!

Reply

You’re not training for nothing, you’re training to stay physically and mentally healthy! That’s everything! ;-)

Reply

That ice cream will always hold a special place in my heart….and some extra pounds around my waist.

Reply

Funny because after that night I thought I would never be able to eat it again… nope. I found a way to power through.

Reply

Looks like you had a great weekend!

Best part of my weekend was hanging out at my friend’s holiday party Saturday night! We all stayed up well past 2am talking and laughing the night away! Tons of fun.

I used to love oatmeal but haven’t eaten it in so long! Always used to toss in chopped almonds/walnuts and/or bananas! Yum!

Reply

I think Brooke makes the cutest Olivia ever! :)

I love your bowl-themed Sunday; I am actually as we speak eating Chocolate Cheerios from a bowl, and they are delicious!

Reply

Best part of my weekend was spending time with friends and family, and then running a PR half yesterday! Still psyched! Happy Monday!

Reply

Your nephew has the best look on his face!

Over the summer I had a bunch of dental work done and oatmeal was one of the new things I could eat. It’s stuck and I’ve been making a bowl of oatmeal a few times a week since then. I usually add a little brown sugar or dried cranberries to mine.

Reply

I love Brookers Olivia dress and she looks adorable in it!! When I was her age, I wanted a red dress with a white collar very similar to hers. Of course I got it and loved it. I am almost done with my shopping and I have to decide what to make to bring to my parents house for our family gathering. I might have to make the chocolate sprinkle cookies. They are so cute and fun for the holiday!! I eat Oatmeal daily and sometimes for dinner if my stomach is upset. Your nephew is such a happy baby. He puts a smile on our faces and reminds us all to stay happy and positive. Yesterday was 9.5 miles and I ran into someone who had just completed 18.

Great post and LOVE the Olivia dress!

1. Christmas shopping is getting there..I don’t worry too much about it, but will get the bits and pieces done soon. We host everyone for Christmas Eve, Christmas day meals, so shopping for food is far more stressful.

2. Sorry to say but my last bowl meal was “Christmas Crack” (popcorn / chex/ m&m’s/ white chocolate / peanuts / pretzels all covered in PB and chocolate)

3. YES! I do lots of steel cut oats (do them overnight oats – see these amaing BEST recipes with OhSheGlows.com)

Reply

Thank you so much for the link Shalyn! I will have to try that and this amazing Christmas Crack you speak of:) Oh I bet the food aspect is stressful! Hope you are having a fabulous Monday!

Reply

I got to spend the weekend making Christmas cookies and it was awesome! I do love oatmeal, more sweet than fruit these days though!

Reply

Brooke’s dress is super cute! I love oatmeal with a bit of maple syrup and cinnamon in it! And I am still shopping, but I have most of it covered. My last meal in a bowl was cereal……..Christmas themed sugar cookie toast crunch, or something like that! Not healthy but oh so good!

Reply

My son LOVES oatmeal. Because of him I’ve gotten creative in how to make it and have found that a little brown sugar, cinnamon, and dried cranberries is my fave.

Ah!! PaceCrate looks awesome!!! So wanna try that!

Highlight of my weekend was my family getting better from strep and buying my Marathon Finisher Christmas tree ornament!

Reply

Best part of my weekend was unexpectedly having some friends over to play board games! It was a nice break in the midst of prepping for finals. And I know today doesn’t count as the weekend, but this morning I did my longest run ever! 21.5 miles! I feel pretty confident about my marathon (in 20 days!!) now.

I love oatmeal. I eat it every morning, without fail. Sometimes for lunch as well.

I’m finished with my Christmas /shopping/, but now I have a lot of wrapping and mailing to do… I think I liked the actual shopping part better.

Reply

Brooke’s dress is darling! The best part of my weekend was a long run with friends and decorating a gingerbread house with my Little. We ate our weight in frosting and candies. I’m so behind with Christmas shopping, I’m going to have a busy weekend getting myself caught up. I love to mix Vega protein mix in with my oatmeal lately. I love my green smoothies, but on cold mornings I need something warm. Happy running!

Reply

The best part of my weekend was running my first marathon! I live in Honolulu and ran the Honolulu Marathon, along with 33,000 other folks. Finished in 5:03 and it was super awesome to have my husband and 16 month old watching me finish. I cried!!

Reply

AHHHH HUGE CONGRTS ABBY!!! You are amazing and I love that your husband and little one were at the finish line. I’ve always wanted to do that marathon… maybe I’ll come out next year?

Reply

Haha I’m also “training for nothing” week 6! I needed a good break after the last marathon so I’m focusing on improving some other areas of my fitness while still running but no races are currently planned. It’s weird, but feels kinda good, too.

P.s. Your nephew’s smile is the sweetest thing!

Reply

I could not agree with you more… it is weird but it feels really nice too! Glad you are giving yourself a break and zoning in on different aspect of fitness! Have a fabulous day!

Reply

Ran my 16 miles this weekend! Woo woo!

I ate oatmeal from a bowl this morning. I love adding PB, brown sugar and whatever fruit I have on hand. This morning I added a banana.

Reply

I cannot get enough of Brooke in that picture of her with the Olivia book. SHE IS BEAUTIFUL. I feel like I say that in every comment I post, but it is still not enough. Then again, her momma is a stunner too so I should not be surprised.

I love oatmeal, and that was definitely the last thing I ate from a bowl! i’m doing the last of my Christmas shopping this afternoon. :) Happy Monday, Janae!

Reply

best part of my wknd was…welp, i guess the whole weekend, b/c my boyfriend was here and life with him is just so good. it’s 65 degrees in NYC (insane and i love it!) so we went running both mornings along the river (in tank tops, whattt?!), had some great brunches/dinners out, went to a holiday party and saw the tree at Rockefeller Center. so many good things. i haven’t eaten oatmeal in a long time, unless oatmeal peanut butter cookies count, and all my shopping is done (phew!).

Reply

Best part of my weekend was taking Girlie to see Santa.
We moved right after Thanksgiving so I’m just starting my shopping. I can’t let myself think about it too much or I’ll start to freak out.
Last thing I ate from a bowl was chocolate cheerios. Shh…
I love mixing chocolate protein powder and pb into my oats.

Reply

Salad was out of a bowl last night.

My new favorite oatmeal is ricotta cheese, mini chocolate chips and a touch of stevia. It’s like a cannoli. Cacao nibs, banana and cinnamon is another fave.

Reply

I like adding TJ’s pumpkin butter to my oatmeal lately, but usually just a banana and peanut butter make it perfect.

Reply

gasped out loud at the photo of Brooke in her “Olivia” dress. Way.To.Cute.
My older daughter often dressed as her favorite “literary” character when she was small. Thank you so much for being “that kind of mom” and for bringing back those memories for me. You have no idea hoe happy I am right now.

Reply

I love oatmeal but it’s getting warm in aus so I’m switching to muesli with cold milk and Greek yoghurt right now. Last thing out of a bowl was cottage cheese with some frozen berries for desert last night.

I made your choc chip cookie recipe on Sunday and they turned out so well. I had never made cookies before but my whole family loved them so I might need to try this recipe too. Thanks for sharing!!

Reply

Best part of the weekend was all the snow we got! OK, may not have been so excited by the time I was done shoveling, but we’re desperate/grateful for it in California. Goodbye running trails, hello XC trails.

Reply

That dress is too cute!

Reply

I so want to like oatmeal….. but I think I have a texture issue with it! However, a friend of mine told be to make it thicker and add blue berries and other stuff to “spice” it up…. so maybe it will grow on me!!!!

Your daughter’s dress is adorable!!!!! Grandma scored HUGE on that gift!!!

Love the runner box thing month to month!!!!! What a wonderful gift….hmmm… now I must email this blog to someone to give them a BIG hint on gift for me!!! Is it wrong that I want it for me and I am not thoughtful enough to ask “who I may want to send to?!?” HA! HA! :D It is pretty cool!!!!

Reply

I love Brooke’s Olivia dress! I attempted to dress as Olivia for my school’s character dress-up Family Reading Night!

Yay for Tillamook! Have you visited the factory? It’s a traditional stop on any trip to the Oregon Coast! They have so many yummy flavors to choose from! And lots of cheese samples on the tour!:)
