The Friday Fifteen!!!

1.  Yesterday’s run was a step up compared to Wednesday’s run.  A) I felt better.  B) I had your AMAZING stress management comments (thank you… I read EVERY comment and I can’t thank you enough for sharing your experience/tips with me) to think about while I was running.  C) It is October which means the temperatures are perfection.

I just did a small loop over and over again to make sure I didn’t get too far away from my car just in case I needed to stop.

IMG 0113

2.  Mr. Garmin, we meet again.   I’m sure you have missed my garmin pictures on the blog the last little while.

IMG 0107

3.   Trying to get in some more park days for Brooke before it snows.  Sorry, gotta run—>  the The Phoenix Marathon/half-marathon gave these hoodies out a few years ago!

IMG 0147 1

4.   Brooke’s favorite after school snack = apples and almond butter.  Atta girl (atta girl/boy is a pretty huge compliment we get from my dad so clearly I am pretty proud of her and her favorite snack).

IMG 4197

5.  Spent some time at my mom’s house and Brooke entertained us with her acrobatics.

 IMG 0127

6.  Brooke helped Lindsey out to take some of our pictures the other day… I don’t know why the peace sign is my automatic posing move but it just happens.

IMG 0191

7.  Come visit us in Utah already.

IMG 4392

8.  You know you have a good sister when she will go through your hair and get the grey hairs out for you.  I know you aren’t supposed to pull them out but we just can’t help ourselves.

IMG 0119

9.  My next round of shirts/tanks will be available soon!  I’m pretty darn excited to show you them!

IMG 0135

10.  Brooke has a pretty incredible trail mix recipe for you that she made at school the other day:

IMG 4192

Pretzels, candy corn (I haven’t had any yet this season… I don’t even know who I am anymore), marshmallows, chex and animal crackers.  PS if you are a candy corn person please mix a bag of candy corn with a bunch of salted peanuts (I prefer two-three peanuts for every one candy corn) and eat them.  The person that shared this combination first with me has received many ‘thank you’ texts over the last few years because of it.

IMG 4193

11.  I got this text from one of my really good friends.  It gave me goosebumps.  Running brings me so much confidence and a huge feeling of accomplishment and I LOVE when it does the same for the people that I love.

IMG 0121

12.  Target sells these and you can freeze them or microwave them and roll your feet out on them.  Treat yo’ feet because we sure put a lot of stress on them with all of our running!

 IMG 0153

13.  A reader yesterday recommended watching THIS episode of Brené Brown and Oprah and I loved it.  I have read two of her books and they are amazing.  Something that she said on the episode that I love was about the thing we are all searching for—>  “The sense of I am enough and my imperfection doesn’t change that.”

Screen Shot 2015 10 08 at 9 44 03 PM

14.  When something actually sounds good lately… I go for it.  And this hit the spot I think.

 IMG 0154

15.  Our weekend plans include a pumpkin patch, lots of relaxing on the couch, maybe bumping up my run to 7 miles on Saturday if I am feeling good and my nephew’s birthday party.   A much better weekend than last weekend:)

I’m glad you’re feeling better and you’re able to slowly build up low mileage.

Kettle corn is the best!

Reply

22 miles this weekend for plans :) My kids love those straw bowls and we have so many of them. Honestly I eat my snacks in them too. Bacon sounds good right now, and I’m also eating it!

Reply

Froyo always sounds good to me. And Wheat Thins. I could eat those all day.

I’m having birthday dinner with my family tomorrow and then have some fast miles mixed in with my long run tomorrow. Then I am going to relax and watch football all weekend! Happy Friday!! :)

I’m hanging at our vacation house soaking up the Florida Sun. I don’t really like popcorn, is that weird? I’ve got a long run and an easy run scheduled this weekend, today is a rest day and I’m going to play with manatees.

Florida problems….hehe. Glad you’re feeling better! :)

Reply

I’m still recovering so my long run this week will be 6 miles! It is kind of nice to not have to spend several hours of the weekend on the run!

We are taking a road trip and making some decisions on the house we are building. So many decisions! Also hitting up Trader Joes this weekend! Woohoo!

Kettle corn…all the way!

Weekend plans: traveling to DC!
Currently craving: waffles
Kettle corn. I love the boom chicka pop lightly sweetened flavor!
I did my long run yesterday so I could just run for fun on our trip!

This weekend I’m heading to Ohio for a half! Thank goodness I have off on Monday for Columbus Day…sleeping all day :). I could go for some kettle corn right now! It’s ok to have popcorn at 8 in the morning right?

Reply

My weekend plans include running the Chicago Marathon and then eating all of the food Chicago has to offer :)

I’m so happy to hear that you were able to get in a good run and I really hope you are able to do 7 this weekend.

Congrats to your friend who ran 2.5 without stopping!!

I have back to back half marathons this weekend and I am sick! I got the sniffles yesterday and now it’s major sinusitis. Good thing I planne on taking it easy for both races anyway.
I have no appetite. Sinus stuff is makin me nauseous.
Yay for 5! Enjoy your weekend

Reply

I feel for you! I get a lot of sinus issues and it bothers my stomach too. I hope you feel better, are able to fuel your half marathons, and are able to enjoy them.

I’m going to Estes Park, Colorado to visit my parents for the week and I’M SO EXCITED! I haven’t seen them since Christmas! I’m so ready for some mountain time. ALSO, MY DOCTOR SAID I COULD RUN THIS WEEKEND!!!!!!!!!!! I’m really nervous but he thinks my foot is finally ready! Since I haven’t run in 12 weeks, I’m coming off an injury and I’ll be about 8,000 ft higher than I’m used to, I have a feeling it will be a VERY slow and short run, but I don’t even care. I am simply giddy about the idea. :) :) :)

I’m so glad you’re feeling better too!!!

I am in Loveland and we are going to have GREAT weekend weather. It will be perfect for you. Hope your run goes great. Good luck.

Park city pink series race for me! I love park city. It makes me feel so lucky to live in Utah because I’m surrounded with places that I love.

I’m going no to try that peanuts and candy corn. One thing I recently learned about candy corn: don’t skimp on it by getting the off brand. It’s super waxy. But it still tastes pretty good.

Reply

#11 is what I love about the running community! Everyone is excited for and supportive of each other no matter where you are as a runner. All the food sounds good to me right now and I’m a kettle corn fan. I did my 16 mi long run yesterday so I can have a pretty relaxing weekend! Hope you feel up for your 7 miles this weekend… Utah is so beautiful I’m sure it’s very fun to run there!

Reply

I am so happy you are feeling better. You had a lot of prayers sent up for you from so many people. I love Brooke’s hair in the bun. I love Kettle corn, but I just saw a post on jenchoosesjoy.com where there is actually a candy corn Boom Chicka . I have a double spin class tomorrow so today I am running some easy miles. Have a great day.

So happy to see you running again and so many smiles!! I hope it keeps up!

I had some weird foot pain this week so I’ve been taking a few rest days. I’m not sure what my runs are going to look like this weekend, I was supposed to do my first 20 miler. It’s feeling great today, and I’m getting a sports massage later. I think I’ll try for 5 on the treadmill tomorrow, and if that goes well do maybe 10 on Sunday before the Falcons game. We’ll see! Enjoy your weekend!!

Reply

We are headed home for the weekend to visit family! I actually bought a bag of candy corn (the first one this year) for road trip food :) I don’t have a popcorn preference, I eat it ALL. I love popcorn! I got a sample of Skinny Pop this week and it is also packed as road trip food. I’ve never tried it before, so we’ll see how it is. It’s a recovery week for me so I have 12 miles on Saturday.

Reply

I have a 5k tonight and 12 miles on Sunday; other than that, I’ll be getting ready for a huge work event this weekend.

Coffee and your candy corn/peanut mixture sound pretty good if you ask me.

I am a huge proponent of butter popcorn, but I don’t discriminate. ;)

Reply

5 great miles in your running bank! Congrats, lady!!!

Reply

So happy you’re back up and running! What a relief :) Ive been having some pretty bad low back pain lately and my doc told me to lay off the running right now and I’m dying. I’m just trying to make it a week and I am at day 4 right now…. and struggling haha

I love all popcorn but kettle corn is my weakness. I probably would eat it forever if I could. Book Chicka Pop has a pumpkin spice kettle corn I have reallyyyy been wanting to try!!

Reply

Tomorrow is the Hartford Marathon! It is a huge deal around here. I will be at a water station that my friend donates at mile 8 of the Half. I won’t be running but I will be taking tons of pictures!

Have a great weekend!

Apples with pb are the best snack ever so I can understand the apples with ab just as well :) Glad your run was even better than the day before. Only good things to come from here!

so glad you are feeling better!

I love candy corn and peanuts. Also M&Ms, raisins and peanuts – I like the sweet/salty combo :)

Reply

That is a perfect combination too!! Thanks Elena, have a fabulous weekend!

Have you considered running Phoenix for your next marathon (when you’re feeling better?) It had an amazing net downhill. Plus, there’s a big group of us bloggers doing it and you should come ;)

Don’t ask me to pick popcorn. I love butter and kettle and I’m currently obsessed with Chicago mix!

Good luck on your long run this weekend!!!

Reply

HEY Phoenix is definitely one that I want to try out soon! I hear great things about it and that is AWESOME that you are doing it… that makes me want to do it more! Hahaha I own’t make you choose:) Have a great weekend girl!!!

Utah looks majestic!

Weekend plans include traveling out of town for a race with my xc kids and possibly going to see a motorcycle for the hubs.

I am staying away from sugar before my next 1/2 marathon next weekend because I had major tummy troubles at my last one, so of course that’s what I’m craving!

I love butter popcorn with hot tamales but I also love homemade kettle corn (I have the easiest recipe ever!!)

I am running 6 tomorrow in preparation for taper week!

Reply

We are having a Fall Fun night tonight at a friends house with a bunch of families from church :)!
I also have a tough 16 miler tomorrow and family pictures tomorrow night!! :)
I have been inhaling that same popcorn!!! I LOVE it! Seriously I have been going through like 3 bags a week!

Reply

Love the “Sorry gotta run” hoodie! Race swag is the best!

That’s great that you are getting able to run again. I know it can be so frustrating coming back from an injury (or illness). I used to glare at the runners while biking intensely at the gym when I was unable to run due to knee pain. I just wanted to run so bad!

Relaxing weekend ahead – easy 6 miler before my half marathon next weekend. Catching up on TV shows, blog reading, take some pretty fall leaves photos, etc.

Reply

I got one of those hoodies from Phoenix this year and I love it. It’s such a comfortable hoodie too! It sounds like you are finding the answers you need Janae and I could not be happier for you. I hope you are able to continue to progress from here.

I’m just working this weekend…always the exciting life. ;)

Reply

Kettle corn is where it’s at! I have my last 20+ miler for NYC this weekend. Starting to get nervous, but excited it’s so close to race day! Glad you’re feeling better ! And I’m definitely going to have to try that candy corn/peanut mix out!

Reply

Running the Lake Tahoe Marathon on Sunday!! Flying out tonight and excited to see the sights!

Brooke’s trail mix is making we want some animal crackers! That + plus almond butter is sounding great right now!

Glad to hear you’re feeling better! Have a great weekend!

Good luck at the LT marathon Arthi! LT is my backyard. It’s gorgeous up there. The temps should be perfect.

Reply

Thanks, Christy!! Have never been before and hear so many great things! Nervous about the altitude though !! 6,000 feet is VERY different than the 60 feet we have in Chicago :)

Reply

AHHHH SO EXCITING!! Go rock your marathon and take it all in:)

Reply

Thank you!! Looking forward to checking out some new scenery!!

Reply

That trail mix sounds so yum!!!

Aiming for a 5 -miler this weekend. Loving the ever-so-slightly cooler weather that has been coming in. Gotta take advantage! :)

I always THINK I prefer buttered popcorn, but my stomach disagrees. Kettle is where its at!

Love that treat yo feet comment ;) … I need to get me one of those!

Reply

ha that trail mix looks spectacular. glad you’re feeling better

I’m racing a 5k on Saturday! It’s the first straight up 5k race I’ve done since I was a freshman in high school, so I have no idea what to expect!

And I’m hoping to do a solid bike ride on Sunday. But we’ll see how that works out.

Reply

I love Brene Brown! I’m so glad to hear you’re feeling better. That makes me so happy.

those pics of utah are stunning! we are looking into going camping in zion next year i have heard such great things. pumpkin patch sounds like so much fun! i wish we had some great ones here!!! I cant complain though we are leaving for disney tomorrow for food and wine festival!!!

Brooke’s favorite after school snack is also my favorite at-work, post-work, and bedtime snack. :P

That is seriously the prettiest backdrop I’ve ever seen for a photo shoot! I want to visit Utah sooo much.

Weekend plans: Visit my parents, see Smokey Robinson tonight, and get a much needed sports massage. Happy Friday! :)

Reply

I’ve seen Brene Brown on Oprah before and she really makes sense to me. It is a rarity for me to feel that I am enough. I must work on that. You would think that at my age (47) that I would have stopped the negative self talk, but no. Candy corn and peanuts or cashews are one of my favorite Fall treats! Sometimes it’s the small , simple things .

Reply

Kimberly. I am totally right there with you. I have those feelings sometimes too but let’s both work through those things and if you ever need an email pen pal…I’m here!!!

Reply

I’m so happy to hear you’re feeling better Janae! Take it easy and hopefully they figured out what caused all this. Have a great weekend!

Hooray to feeling better!

I have always LOVED receiving the compliment “atta girl”! It is definitely used sparingly and means so much.

Reply

Right?!? It is a compliment that takes things to the next level! I hope you are having a great day Paige!

Reply

That Boom Chicka Pop is SOOOOOOO addicting! I could eat the whole bag at once! The seasonal ones they have out now are even more addicting! The Pumpkin Spice and Candy Corn bags I bought did not last long…

Reply

I’m so happy for you that you’re getting to run again! You’re very smart in slowly building back up your mileage. Bagels sound really good to be right now, so I’m baking some! Have a great weekend and continue to feel better, Janae!

This weekend is my niece’s bridal shower. It’s almost a 2 hour drive away so I’ll be driving with my mom and my daughter. This could either go really well or really badly. Fingers crossed!

Kettle Corn FTW- especially if you add M&M’s or candy corn to the mix.

I’ve been wanting candycorn but I’m going to wait a bit longer.

Reply

Love Brene Brown!
We are headed to a haunted house and hopefully seeing Martian this weekend.
I have been craving some sushi lately!
I love both kinds of popcorn and candy corn! Have you tried the Boom Chicka Pop Candy corn flavor? Its good!
Have a great weekend!

Reply

Brene Brown is so amazing. I’ve read all her books and love her to death!

Reply

The boom chicka pop things are really good! My favorite is the tealy blue kind. It’s still sweet like purple ones but a lot less calories. It hits the spot for me :)

Reply

oh brene brown. i just LOVE her! totally going to watch that episode now. my friend came over the other night with peanuts and candy corn and said she got the idea from YOU! so i’m blaming you for eating my weight in this magic concoction!

Reply

bahahaha I can’t even begin to tell you how happy that makes me!!! Glad you loved it and you still have a few more weeks to eat as much of it as you can!

Reply

I hope to go on a run this weekend and take baby out for the first time!

Reply

Brunettes have to pluck the grays. We don’t have a choice. I prefer buttered popcorn with a side of milk duds (it’s why I go to the movies), and I’m headed to the pumpkin patch this weekend with my crew, too.

Reply

Yay for progress! I’m so glad you’re on the mend and getting back to life.

My parents are coming to visit for the week tomorrow. The hubs comes home tonight from a week long work trip. There’s lots of catching up to do! I’m also hoping to get in a few runs all weekend long.

kettlecorn wins always. Have a great weekend!

Reply

You just made me realize I haven’t had any candy corn this year either and this is a travesty. I must remedy this soon.

Reply

Hurray for 5 miles! That’s the real deal!

That spot you went for pics is gorgeous! Bet the pictures are going to turn out awesome.

And excited to see your new shirts :)

Reply

Glad you are feeling better. Question for you, what is the foot massage ball from Target called?

Reply

Ran 9 this morning in the dark…..got to get it in before homeschooling gets rolling. A snack idea for you …plain m and m’s mixed with goldfish crackers. It is divine and a perfect post race munchie….hope you get better soon.

Reply

I love all popcorn! Chicago Mix is the best!!! But kettlecorn is my usual go-to because Chicago Mix (even the one from TJoe’s is good!) can be so decadent.

Reply

I love all popcorn – there’s even powders you can put on them and one of them that I had one time that I can’t remember was spicy. It was so good! The one thing I don’t love about popcorn is that it gets in my teeth and I can’t get them out. ?

My weekend plans are to get an IUI done and take it easy the rest of the weekend. But before I go in for the IUI I was gonna go for a short run. I haven’t been in 2 weeks and I’m dying! I need it emotionally.

Reply

Brene Brown has a lot of Ted videos too. I put them up in my psychology classes :) Glad you are feeling better and glad you are not pushing yourself. Healing takes time. Congrats to the person who ran the entire 2.5 miles. It is a big deal!!! :)

Reply

I got goosebumps from your text you shared. I feel that way about myself when I run, and when others share their accomplishments, it makes me smile (and sometimes cry tears of joy). Running is hard. Staying committed is hard. Being excited about advancements in our running can be hard. But the joy is real, and sharing it is so wonderful. Thank you, this reminds me to be super proud of my own accomplishments. We’re all fighting the same fight!

Reply

Brooke’s trail mix looks so good!

Canadian thanksgiving this weekend and we are having a big family gathering. Also a baptism. Also I have to work and at some point I need to squeeze in a 30 k long run.

I’m really glad you’re feeling better and I love buttery popcorn!

Reply

Dude, if you like Angie’s and Candy Corn please tell me you’ve had the Holidrizzle Candy Corn Popcorn, it’s beyond!

Woo hoo! So happy you’re feeling better enough to get back on the running bandwagon. Go for it!

Weekend plans: Friday movie night, if I had to guess 101 dalmatians :) Saturday breakfast out with the family and then shopping for a princess Tiana halloween dress and then baking choc chip pumpkin cookies (yum!) and caramel apples! Sunday off too the pumpkin patch!! :)
-Treats of all sorts!
-Cheddar popcorn!
Have a wonderful weekend!! :)

We’re flying home to California tonight after 3 weeks in Hawaii. So I did my long run this morning. I pushed it pretty hard, ended up nauseated and lightheaded after 9 miles and decided to walk the 3 miles back to our condo. Pretty sure punishing my body that much isn’t a good idea and I’m positive that passing out in Waikiki would have been a bad idea!

Food that sounded wonderful when I got back – pretzels! I needed something salty to settle my stomach and they did the trick. Not the best recovery food, but they worked.

Kettle corn over buttered!

Glad you’re feeling better! Take the 7 miles easy and don’t feel guilty if you need to stop early.

Reply

My go-to food has been fried eggs lately. Like, cannot get enough.

I like both buttered and kettle corn, but caramel corn is my fave. Just made the first batch of the fall, and holy smokes: nothing better than homemade popcorn.

Longest run of my training cycle before tapering: 22 miles tomorrow morning! I can’t even fathom that distance, but I get to do it with my friends, so anything is possible!

Keep up the good work and rest. Sounds like you are treating yourself right and listening to your body. It’ll pay off! :)

Reply

Weekend plans: Cleaning up the storage unit for Strut Your Mutt (a fundraiser to raise awareness/money for homeless animals)
Pizza sounds really really really good. #kryptonite
I think I prefer butter popcorn. But I go through phases.
I think I’m going to shoot for a five-miler on Sunday. I have a trial Orange Theory Fitness class scheduled with a friend on Monday and then marathon training for my first ever marathon starts on Tuesday!

Reply

This weekend we are going to a pumpkin patch too! Well it’s got a lot of other stuff too but I am so excited because my grandparents are here visiting from New York and we are taking Rylee (she’s 6 months) and my parents are going too and its Grandparents Day at The Farmstead so it will be cuteness galore! Then Sunday I am running a half marathon so weekend plans are pretty busy! I am so happy you are feeling better : ) That popcorn is the best!

Reply

I also pull out all my grays! Just can’t help it. I’ve been craving sushi and pasta lately. Crazy combo but the last two days it’s all that’s been on my brain! :)

Reply

Glad you are feeling better!! I want some of Brooke’s trail mix! YUM

Reply

My weekend plans are Thanksgiving! Just a family potluck on Sunday.

I eat that popcorn nightly though if our stores are stocking the Lightly Sweetened that’s my favourite :)

Anything pumpkin spice is sounding really good to me right now but the Canadian stores around me aren’t stocking them grrrr…but I am making a healthy pumpkin pie for the holiday so hopefully that turns out good!

Rest day tomorrow and medium/long run on Sunday…my coach is super paranoid about the provincial XC championships next Friday and wants us doing really low mileage but I’m hoping that mom will let me run my first half on the 25th so I still have to keep of my mileage up somehow. I personally hate XC and love the longer road races instead! I already know that there are girls that I will never beat in the 50m–5k distances so why not get a head start and beat them at longer distances instead?

Reply

Weekend plans for me include a couple more long, slow runs, if my leg continues to feel better. Also, loads of homework, and – if I have time – baking a sweet potato pie.

I just ate not long ago, but the flavor I’m noticing I’ve been craving lately is gingerbread. My taste buds are getting ahead of themselves by a couple months, I guess.

I think I’m actually the only person in the world who doesn’t really like popcorn, which is strange because my mother and older brother are both popcorn fanatics.

Reply

I’m so glad you are feeling better and I hope you run goes well this weekend!
Weekend plans: Packing! We are moving next week!!
I am a popcorn addict… I love both butter and kettle corn equally :)
I have my first 7 mile run since last November!! I am really excited about it!

Utah is so beautiful! I have only been there in winter b/c it’s our favorite spot for snow sports :) but we HAVE to plan a summer trip someday. My weekend will be spent trying to stay cool (it is currently 100 degrees in San Diego..whaaat?), but my sister and I are also planning a little trip to the pumpkin station with my niece and nephew. In running news, I am back into the double digits now, as I have been SLOWLY building back my mileage since my injury in July. I have an 11-miler on Sun in the very early AM to beat the heat. I am no longer upset that I had to pull out of the marathon this weekend – running in 90 degree heat for 26.2 miles does not sound like fun!

Reply

I am reveling in this weather – blazer weather and all that so I can’t believe you have to be talking about snow already. Oh man, I like cool weather but I don’t want to think that far ahead yet. http://runwright.net/2015/10/09/top-5-revealing-photos/

Reply

Hot buttered popcorn. But I’m not allowed after last Sat night when I ate so much at the movie.

Supposed to run 8, then changed it to 10, now going to do 6+ because the Mrs. is wiped out from Mommy duty. And next weekend I’m 2.5 hrs away most of the weekend for the marathon. The last week!

Reply

So good to hear you are feeling better! :o) I have that “spiky ball” on the floor of my bath room and roll both of my feet while brushing my teeth morning and evening, it also travels with me everywhere. This can totally help me avoid foot issues (I couldn’t run for a month last year….). 2 weeks to go before Frankfurt marathon!!!

Reply

I tried candy corn mixed with peanuts for the first time last year on your recommendation-so good!!! It’s the only way I’ll eat it now :)

Reply

I’m almost scared to speak this up, but I have yet to find a grey hair in my dreadlocks. I’m not sure what I will do when I do!

Reply

my goodness Utah is so beautiful! i’m struggling a bit down here in mississippi cause it’s not really like fall at all. some leaves change but it’s not a huge deal and there aren’t amazing pumpkin patches and the like. I’ll visit in utah :)

Reply

I love that color of blue for your new shirts. I really want one, but I just spent $1100 between a new sink/faucet/plumber for my kitchen. My budget was half of that :(

Brooke’s trail mix looks amazing!

Also right before the school year started there was a 10 yr old girl who the family knew she had an allergy to sunflowers, she was at her friend’s house and they ate that popcorn (I think it was that one) they didn’t realize it was popped in sunflower oil and she had a horrible allergic reaction and died. :(
