The current status, a pleasant surprise and 6 miles.

So the current status of my stomach—>  it mainly just hurts now for about an hour or so after I eat (and some foods are worse than others).  SO… I just plan my eating around when I know I can relax on the couch for a bit after I eat or right before I go to bed at night.  I am noticing huge improvements since last week and my doctor did say it would take about a week for it to all start kicking in.  I am very very grateful I found a doctor that has helped me so much because I was getting sick of the guessing game:)

6 miles to start off my Friday!  8:20 pace.  Treadmill.  Read my iPad.  Smiled to be running again.

Most of our day was pretty low-key but there were some excellent highlights:

We picked up some sugar cookie decorating items to make and deliver our annual Halloween cookies.

IMG 0178

We attended a pumpkin patch in Springville that was only $1 for a ton of really fun activities!

IMG 0267

Brooke could not get over this mama pig and her piglet.  I love how much she loves animals.

IMG 0189

A slide that went pretty fast and ended in a bunch of corn.

IMG 0257

And some corn angels and selfies in the huge play area of corn.

We also picked up a pumpkin to take home with us.  Fall could not be any more beautiful.

IMG 0263

We had dinner with our friends afterwards at Red Robin and EVERY time we go there Brooke falls asleep.  Their booths must have extra amounts of comfort in them.

This was a pleasant surprise.  Sabrina the Teenage Witch starting following me (along with a million other people) on Twitter.  PS I still don’t really understand Twitter all that well… I’m all about Instagram.

Looks like the perfect fall day to me! I just love the mountains in the back of your pictures, so pretty. I’m so glad you’re on the mend! I got my run in now off to my hair appointment with a big mug of coffee. Have a great weekend!

Glad you’re feeling better! I’m also feeling better than I have in a couple of weeks and am hoping to go on a decent run today! At the moment I’m just waiting for the rain to stop. If it doesn’t stop soon, though, I want to run so bad that I might just go in the rain, something I normally hate…

Twitter is not something I’m very good at understanding either.

I’m going to have to check out that $1 pumpkin patch. That sounds pretty neat. What was it called?

Looks like a fun day at the pumpkin patch! I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better. Enjoy your run today!

I’m doing a pumpkin patch with my kiddos today! Very excited. Fingers crossed you get a good run in today.

I am glad you are starting to feel better. I totally understand the stomach hurting thing after everything you eat because I had that over the summer and it took a few weeks until I could eat without the hour long (and sometimes 3 hour long) constant pain. So terrible but you are so through the worst! Enjoy the rest of your weekend :)

that corn slide looks amazing!! how do you always find those great outdoorsy/seasonal things?

glad you’re improving stomach-wise

It makes me so happy that you have been feeling better and are even able to run again. Like so happy. Like that freaking adorable picture of Brooke smiling with the pig, happy.

Soooo can I have your autograph? Cause I loved both Clarissa and Sabrina when I was little so that is kind of a big deal.

Tell me that pumpkin patch is Jakers Jack-o-lanterns! Jakers is my cousin. Gotta support the fam, yo!

When I had this with my stomach, this is what helped. I avoided coffee, mint, alcohol (I think you’re good on a few of those), orange juice, and orange juice-based smoothies, and tomatoes and tomato sauces. I still avoid tomatoes a few years later and it has done a WORLD of difference.

So glad you’re feeling better!

Brooke looks so delighted with the pigs, adorable!

My half-marathon is tomorrow and the weather is supposed to be good. I am excited. It’s a local race and I know the course well, even the tough hill that is mile 9.

My husband is supposed to start chemo in 2 weeks. He’s ok with it, I am stressed.

That picture of Brooke passed out with food on her face is priceless!
Glad to hear you’re feeling better.

Ahhh I loved “Clarissa explains it all” growing up! Looks like your weekend is off to a good start!

We did the pumpkin patch last week – so fun! However, there was no corn slide. May have to put in a suggestion. :) Happy to hear you are feeling better… hopefully this stomach thing won’t last much longer. Can you eat anything sweet?

Reply

Glad your stomach is improving – the pumpkin picking is so much fun to do with kids, that along with apples are my two favorite fall activities :)

Reply

Yay for 6 miles, I’m so glad you are running again.

Twitter also really confuses me, but love that Melissa Joan Hart is following you! How cool!!

I never thought playing in a box of corn would be fun until I saw your pictures above…looks like a great time haha.

Glad to hear that your stomach is doing better! I’ve been having stomach issues from eating, too (maybe from eating a lot of white pasta and bread lately??), so need to reevaluate my diet. A lot of my girlfriends seem to have stomach issues, too…wonder why that is!

Reply

So glad you were able to go on a 6 mile run!!
I am heading out on my run right now! :)
I’m glad you are getting some answers about your stomach.
That pumpkin patch looks like so much fun – we can’t wait to go!!
Have an awesome Saturday :)

i, too, had a reunion with running today! i fractured my ankle back in August and was cleared to take my boot off this past monday and today i ran a glorious 5k distance! i was so happy and emotional. it was amazing! there was definite runner’s high going on.

Reply

Oh Sara, that injury sounds awful! I am so glad that you were able to run a 5K TODAY!! Way to go girl… I hope you still have that runner’s high!

Reply

i do. i’m having to force myself to NOT run right now! i’ll be running 5 miles tomorrow so it’s all good!

Reply

Glad you are feeling better! Are you eating your usual foods or changed it up? Hope your run goes well today. I’m going to attempt a run post-injury because it feels good walking around, but I have a feeling it won’t be great when I start running. I also feel like an elephant after having not run for months. That won’t help the run!

Reply

I am not really eating my usual foods… I’m not eating dairy, random foods that cause pain or much sugar at all but I really am still pretty confused what makes things worse! I HOPE that your run went well and that you didn’t feel y our injury one bit!

Reply

Glad you are feeling better!

It’s definitely going to be a lazy day today for me!

What’s your favorite low impact exercise?

Reply

SO happy you are running again!! I know that feeling and it is soo great :)

I want to pick pumpkins and then carve them! Soon I hope, fall is the best!

Reply

So glad to hear you are feeling better and that you are running again! Great news! Have a great day!

Reply

I forgot to mention that those professional photos of you and Brooke are so awesome.
I ran the rock n roll Brooklyn half today with a cold and amazingly had no issues with that. I thought I might have a hard time breathing but I didn’t. The weather was perfect and while it wasn’t anywhere near a pr I am just happy to have been able to run it. Tomorrow I have another half. This is my big push of mileage before the NYC marathon.
Glad you are slowly feeling better.

Reply

SABRINA! That’s awesome heheh.

I should run today. it’s just still 100 degrees out here. I miss fall…. I don’t like SoCal fall, I miss New England fall. once it’s winter though? ship me back to SoCal! hahah

Reply

SABRINAAAAAA!!! hahah! How cool is that? I love it! And I love fall, and I love that you love instagram because that’s definitely my baby too! :) I went running with a friend this morning and we were discussing how much we love your blog! :)

Reply

Glad to hear you are feeling better and able to run, with a smile :)
We are heading to the pumpkin patch tomorrow, I am looking forward to it. I really like fall. :) Hope you have a great weekend!

Janae, I read your blog daily, and I was SO sad for you that “life” interfered once again with your sub 3 marathon goal. You were doing everything right it seems like, and it was so so sad to watch it slip away from you once again. BUT, I wanted to say that your attitude through this has been really inspiring. I can only imagine how upset you must have been (not to mention how sick you must have felt), but you took the situation as an opportunity to look for positives. I especially liked your post on how other runners get through setbacks. So I just wanted to give you a little kudos, and to say I hope you’re feeling better and that your mom is doing better and finding answers. Moms really are the best, and yours seems like a particularly great one. All the best!!

Reply

Thank you SO SO much Katie for your sweet comment. It was just what I needed this afternoon…. thanks for taking the time to write me!

Hi Janae, Your blog is so wonderful, thank you for all that you do for us! You are truly an inspiration. I was so sorry to read about your own medical issues and also about your incredible mom. You have been handling everything beautifully, even though I know it takes incredible internal strength to do that. I had ischemic colitis a few years ago and it stopped me in my tracks, emotionally and physically. I am sending you virtual hugs and strength, and I have absolutely NO DOUBT that you will meet and exceed your running (and life) goals in the future. Practice extreme self-care when you can and be good to yourself. Thank you again for your words!!

Reply

Sarah! Thank you so much for your sweet comment. Oh goodness ischemic colitis sounds awful! You are so right… practicing extreme self-care is so important right now! Thank you so much for the hugs and strength:)

I was at Red Robin too last night. Blue Ribbon burger & sweet potato fries for the win!

Who runs a 8:20 pace and still can read her iPad? Apparently you do. Wow. Rock it.

Glad to hear you are feeling better. Once you are off the meds you should start taking pre and probiotics a few times a week to keep your tummy happy. Give it a try. They are natural bacteria found in your stomach and help balance the good bacteria vs the bad.

Reply

So glad things are improving for you and you got to run a good 6 miles today! Wishing you a wonderful Sunday!

Reply

My Saturday was spent running a half marathon where I PR’d! Then ran the Warrior Dash after! Big Day. Too bad my stomach has been torn up with tons of cramping after… oh well! It was worth it.
Glad to hear that you are feeling better!!!

It is so funny, I grew up on a farm and had to “deal” with corn all the time, I took my Mr. 6 at the time to a pumpkin farm with the corn to play in and I couldn’t believe all of the city kids’ response to the corn.

Reply

Woah! That view from the pumpkin patch is AMAZING! I would go just for the pictures!

Okay, I know I just made a comment on your most recent post, but I just have to say that Brooke is the cutest kiddo! She seems like a fabulous sidekick. :)

I’m glad I’m not the only one that doesn’t understand the point of Twitter :) Pictures are way more fun!

Glad you’re starting to feel better!

Sounds like a really fun day !
