Ten things from our Sunday and my marathon training last week…

I hope your weekend was fabulous!  Here are a few things from our Sunday:

1.  Coordinating outfits with Brooke is a big source of my happiness.

IMG 4529

2.  Just because I love to take pictures of her running around.

IMG 4504

3.  Most of the time snacks that I get at the store never even make it inside my house.  I was pretty pumped yesterday when I got into my car and remembered my Skinny Pop from the other day in the back.

IMG 4533

4.  Marathon training leaves every fiber of my body pretty exhausted by the end of the week which means I can pretty much nap through anything.

IMG 1162

5.  Baking has turned into a necessary Sunday activity for us.

IMG 1163

We also made some TJ’s pumpkin bread for 2 reasons—>  we love the taste and it makes my apartment smell like heaven.

IMG 4534

6.  Brooke is teaching her little cousin how to work locks.  My dad made this board of locks/switches/handles for my nephew ten years ago and it is still the favorite toy for all of the kiddos.

IMG 4539

7.   Spent some time outside and Brooke got in some hill sprints on the grass hill (I should probably run more hills).

IMG 4575

8.  Ate dinner with the family and we had salad, rice and meatballs.

IMG 4584 1

9.  I was in charge of dessert so of course I brought large amounts of sugar.

IMG 4586

10.  My sister really spent a lot of time decorating her cookie;)  The kiddos sure loved it!

Marathon Training Week #283

Monday:  5 miles @ 8:34 pace on the treadmill.

Tuesday:  10 miles total!  2 mile warm-up, 8 x .5 miles with 2:30 recovery jogs, 2 mile cool-down.  Average of 2:53 for the .5 mile repeats.

Wednesday:  5 miles @ 8:20 pace on the treadmill.

Thursday:  7.5 miles.  10 minute warm-up, 10 x 400m with 1 minute recovery jogs in between, 3 x 200 and 10 minute cool-down.  Average pace for the speed splits—> 5:24.  This workout left me pretty exhausted!

Friday:  3 miles with Josse @ 8:24 pace.  Felt so good to run with her again!

Saturday:  16 miles @ 6:55 average (a much needed run for me mentally and physically… + I was in the sunshine for the entire run).

Sunday:  Off!

46.5 miles.

PS I am pretty sure I am signing up for my marathon this week so I will let you know which one as soon as I actually sign up!  I have just wanted to make sure I was healthy enough to keep up with the training before signing up and I am feeling so much better so we are good to go!

I had a race this weekend and wanted to take it easy since I just had a half PR this month and I’ve been sick..but I ended up feeling great and got another PR! Good month for me so far! So happy to see you’re feeling better and can’t wait to hear what race you’re doing :) The suspense is intense!

For some reason, after races I always crave diet coke. Never any other time, so that’s the only time that I drink it!

Reply

Love the cookie decorating! So much fun!! Favorite post race treat is usually dinner at The Cheesecake Factory. I eat there all of the time but I do so enjoy my fave salad and chocolate cake the most after a race.

Reply

i’m just beginning a taper for the Indianapolis Monumental Half, so i had 10 easy miles this saturday and it felt so good! I had a glass of wine in the evening after dinner, but my favorite post recovery snack is grapes/watermelon/peaches. something with water content

I love Tiff’s Treats for a post-race treat. The sugar cookies are incredible!

My running last week was tough, and I need to do a better job of pushing myself outside of my comfort zones. My Thursday night race wasn’t as fast as I would have liked because I wasn’t being mentally tough enough. :/

Nice work on training, so glad you’re feeling better, and I really am looking forward to seeing which marathon you are signing up for!! My 2nd marathon is in just 19 days (but who is counting?!) and I had my big 20 miler this past weekend, it went GREAT!

Three things- BEAUTIFUL fall runs, Suits, and family time!
Happy Monday!

Reply

16 @ 6:55 average … So impressive!!

Three things from the weekend: Lots of running, puppy play dates, and shopping! Just what I needed after a stressful week :) Ran the Pumpkins in the Park 5K fun-run on Saturday night. They had a s’mores station set-up which was the perfect post-race treat!

Reply

No races. Ran 1.5 on Thu (was still struggling with walking/stairs on Tue) and felt pretty good. Then physio on Fri and felt worse! Sunday 4 miles went painfully from the start. So what’s the consensus? Run through IT band issues or take time off?

3 things: Daughter’s mad goalie skills and courage in soccer, a pretty cool church service Sat night (which, in part, celebrated the church’s charity contributions from the local marathon the Sun before), and a neighborhood Halloween party Sun.

Best reward food. I’m going with my old standby B&J Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream. BTW their Speculoos ice cream is pretty yummy too.

Reply

Ran the Cape Cod Marathon yesterday. Not a PR but a 2017 BQ with 7+ minutes to spare, and 7th place in my division.
Three things, all at the finish line: seeing my family, apple cider cinnamon donuts, and clam chowder.
The apple cider cinnamon donuts are my favorite new post-race treat!
Hardest run of the week: the Marathon! Killer hills but beautiful route!

I am so happy for you that you will be picking your marathon! I am super excited all your hard work will be paying off soon!
PS. I love the candy corn cob! So awesome!

Reply

Skinny Pop is the best!!

Reply

I just found a great post race treat this last time around. They are called the bar undone. It’s a gronola bar all taken apart and it was super yummy. So aside from oranges and bread of some kind they are my new favorite. You should try them.

Reply

Love that candy corn on the cob! And very excited to hear about which marathon you’re choosing.

Reply

Is there a weekend I don’t race? I love the speed it’s left me…I had such a good race it just wasn’t a PR since the course was short. I wish because I was on pace for a PR!

That candy corn cob is really amazing. I want to try it!

Please update me on the marathon you are choosing! I’m excited for you.

Reply

Do the Paris marathon with me in April!!

Three things my weekend consisted of: 1) walks in the woods, 2) smores, 3) lots of card games!

Reply

It’s probably redundant but I ran my first 1/2 last weekend at the Duke City Marathon. I met my goal for running a sub 2. 01:55:38. It was a great day!

my weekend:
high school football away (WON!). My son’s team is almost in playoffs!
Lots of teenagers/college kids at my house mostly for food and sleep and a couple of amazing conversations.
we learned that my daughter’s very sweet (maybe spoiled…)miniature Cocker Spaniel collects hair ties.

Running with my friends.
Apple pie crisp cupcake with cinnamon frosting.

My favorite post-run treat (in the fall and winter) is a big cup of hot coffee! I also love protein drinks- my body craves all that protein after a long run!

Reply

3 things: This weekend was full of fall fun! 1. My little man and I spent most of our Saturday diving into leaf piles :) 2. We took a train ride to a pumpkin patch 3. We celebrated my nephew’s birthday :)

I love a Steak ‘n’ Shake chocolate shake after a race…sooo good!

Reply

OMG Smart Pop is NOT safe around me, I am truly obsessed!
LOL Brown v neck JCrew is on the way to my mailbox.
Just finished 5 mile sprints on very tired legs, got a great endorphin rush today. :)

Reply

Love Brooke’s hair and your matching outfits! It’s like Christmas morning when I find a bag of skinny pop popcorn (not empty) in my car. Lol!

Reply

I did an impromptu half marathon this weekend as a training run and it was great! My favourite thing to have post race is a chocolate Rumble drink because it tastes delicious and is full of protein.

Reply

The cookie decorating looks so fun! Makes me excited to have kids one day. ;)

I had a 10 mile race with my students yesterday. It was tough on them, but they pushed through it and did an awesome job!

Three weekend things: Hung out with my parents’ puppies a lot, started crocheting again, and did some home decorating. Overall, a great weekend! Happy Monday!! :) :)

Reply

I love your matchy matchy outfits! Too cute!

My weekend was EXHAUSTING! I had 17 miles immediately followed by a 5k walk for breast cancer awareness, and then a bachelorette party. Oh, and that was just Saturday! ;)

Reply

I did an hour of spin class yesterday. Even though I am really sore today, it was was still one of the best parts of the weekend.
This week, I am doing some new things to accomplish my goals – my achievement rate has been really low lately and I want to do more: http://runwright.net/2015/10/26/dream-and-do/

Reply

No races for me, but did have a 6 mile “long” run (training for my first half)…that turned out to be my best run of the week!

Best post-race/post-run treat is anything filled with carbs and happiness, which are basically the same thing.

3 things:
– LAUNCHED MY NEW SITE, which I’ve been waiting to do for so long!
– got in a great workout with former-client-turned-friend
– did some major cooking and cleaning accomplished and felt like June Cleaver

Reply

Your training is back in the swing of things! Incredible. You mentioned yesterday you’re finding what works and doesn’t work for you. Are you going GF? I noticed the oatmeal box :) My stomach is a huge issue for my own self running and is placing huge limits on me. I know what I need to do…but it’s hard. On a positive note, I’m starting to run again a little post-injury, not much but hopefully I’ll build up pain-free :)

Reply

Since I have been in Chicago this weekend my three things are:
Eating deep dish pizza!
Taking a photo at the Bean in Millenium Park
Celebrating my birthday with my boyfriend touring some frank Lloyd wright homes.

No racing this weekend but the NYC marathon for me next weekend. Praying I don’t fall apart on that queens boro bridge!

Excited to hear what marathon you picked and so happy you are feeling better.

Reply

I did the Marine Corps Marathon this weekend! Heading home from DC now. Was amazing to visit some of the sites with my family and friends. Can’t wait to hear about what marathon you sign up for!

Reply

Huge congrats Tara… that is awesome and I am so happy you got to spend time with family and friends too! PS I heard that hill at the end of the marathon was crazy hard!

Reply

Was wayyy harder than I was anticipating ?

Reply

I love how Brooke puts EVERYTHING on her cookie!!

I ran a slow 1/2 marathon this weekend in gorgeous weather and scenery.

Reply

I went to my very first pumpkin patch this weekend! Yay. Now have to decide if I’m going to attempt carving the thing. No running for me last week due to my knee pain I got during my half marathon. Will test out running sometime this week and see how it feels. Glad you are feeling better!

Reply

oh my goodness, my hair is so envious of brooke’s hair! it’s so gorgeous and flowy! glad you had a fun sunday and yay cookie decorating!

Reply

3 things: pumpkin patch, realizing I lost my car key on an 8mi run but managed to find it in a intersection 2mi back, and a nice family hike in the trees with our 2yo.

Glad you are feeling better and have a race lined up. I can’t wait to hear what you decide.

Reply

Three things: Happy Girls Half Marathon in Sisters, OR, pumpkin patch with my 3 year old son, and postrace treat – TJ’s pumpkin bread with speculoos cookie butter! Yummy!

Reply

I’m still out of running because of back problems but I had a nice walk yesterday while sort of informally coaching my friend Lisa while she was running on the track. Saturday was a family get together and a bonfire dinner at my aunt and uncle’s church which was all together made for a nice weekend!

Reply

Your niece in the background of that food picture is the cutest! I love her facial expression. Love your weekend updates Janae, and I hope you continue to have a fantastic week!

Reply

I LOVE BROOKE’S COOKIE!! ahhhh so cute! :)

Reply

The highlight of my weekend was taking Cocoa to the puppy park. I’m easy to please :). It’s so fun watching her have fun. And my favorite post run treat is something with sugar. Swedish fish, gummy bears, candy corn or starburst/skittles!!

Reply

Hey Janae, would you ever consider a marathon in another country. Just curious to see it that is something you would ever like to do

Reply

I would LOVE to do that! Seriously LOVE to do that! Maybe next time Brooke is with her dad for awhile I should do that! Would you?

Reply

Yeah definitely. I’m Irish and have on ever done one marathon, Dublin, 2013. Would love to do New York or London.

Reply

Brooke looks so much like you in some of those pictures! And she has the best facial expressions.

My weekend’s highlights included baking pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, having friends over to carve pumpkins, and getting lots of put-off errands and chores done.

My best run from the past week was my 16-mile long run on Saturday! But unfortunately my quads haven’t been too happy about it since, so yesterday and today have been my hardest runs. But I can tell I’m getting faster. I’ve been putting off signing up for a half-marathon in mid-November because I’ve been worried about my injury flaring up again, but I’ve only been seeing improvements lately so I think I’m going to go ahead and do it if my run tomorrow feels good.

Reply

3 things from my weekend:
1. Flew to Atlanta to see Taylor Swift with my best friend (thanks to my husband for an out of this world birthday present!)
2. Ate a delicious ice cream combo (Snickers bar and Sea turtle) from the cutest lil shop in the cutest lil town (Covington, GA) and all regretted it when we had to make a mad sprint to catch our plane back to Texas.
3. So happy to be back home and cuddling with my kitty, Merlot. She sleeps in my arms all night long.

Hardest and best run last week: my 7 mile long run. It’s the longest I’ve ever run and it was hard, but felt great!

Reply

Saturday my 10 year old sonand I did a local 5km-we both got PR’s and I got 1st and the trophy was an adorable pumpkin painted pink with a tiara. Crazy cute. Sunday was a beautiful bike ride followed by a nap.

I always crave a cup of hot coffee after a run. For a treat I’d love a scone but they are hard to find in Germany (unless I make them.)

Running was great this past week-did a 20miler Sunday then a week of fun quality running with my XC kids! Their energy……

Reply

I ran my first 5K race in quite some time during the weekend. I’ve not been running much this past month or so, so it about as well as I could have expected… Plenty of room for improvement.

Glad to hear you are feeling fit and ready for your next marathon :)

Reply

My marathon rocked!!!!! I ran a 3:21 at Marine Corp, a 13 min PR. It was one of the happiest days of my life!!!! I was in such shock the rest of the day, I kind of forget to eat anything!!!!

Reply

Quick question for you – when you make the TJ’s pumpkin bread, do you substitute unsweetened apple sauce for the oil? If so, does it alter the taste at all? Making that exact pumpkin bread with those choc chips tonight, and I was planning on subbing applesauce, but I don’t want to mess up the taste!

Reply

Baking is so fun! Especially with little ones helping!

Well, just so you know, between your blog and motivation from my local running friends, I think I am going to take on a full marathon! I am at 99% of saying “yes!” I will decide after this weekend… I am chair of a 5K that supports my son’s school and it runs this weekend! I already have a coach that said he would develop a training plan for me! I think instead of setting a goal time, I am just going to plan on reaching the finish line! But I thank you for all the information from your blog and keeping things real!!! Especially for us moms that balance running and life!!!!!

This weekend I ran a 5k saturday and the 10 miles in the dark at 5:30am with a running group!

Reply

Favorite post-race treat lately has been eggs with feta and potatoes if I have some already made. The saltier the better! Best run last week was an easy 6 on the treadmill because it meant I got to stay home and I was really looking forward to getting right off the ‘mill and into the shower and bed.
