Nine Highlights (including a video).

Things are feeling better around here (not sure if it is the anti-nausea medicine or things actually getting better but I’ll take it…) and so I’ve got some highlights from the day.

IMG 9991

1.  I put on real clothes (hasn’t really happened much in a while) and got to go out to Chef’s Table.

IMG 0002

2.  I ate non-blah food and I didn’t die.  This watermelon salad spoke to my heart.  I am not sure what foods make my body go nuts but I have another appointment with the gastroenterologist soon and I’m sure he’ll have advice for me and there will probably be a good amount of trial and error along the way.

IMG 9998

3.  The view of my favorite mountains from our table..

IMG 9994

4.  Brooke had her first ever (that I know of) fruit roll-up and it brought back all sorts of memories of my elementary packed lunches.

IMG 9979

5.  A video.

4 things happening in this movie:

-Brooke can spell her name (and the look of satisfaction on her face after she finishes makes me very happy).

-“Me wanna see you get married” was the random thing Brooke kept telling me yesterday.

-Brooke’s version of You Are My Sunshine.

-I love how she says Almond Butter.

6.  I laughed pretty hard when a reader sent this to me.  Runners are quite an interesting group of people.

IMG 9981

7.  My brother (that lives in Arizona) finally got an iPhone so we can FaceTime now.  He is one of the funniest humans I know and seeing his face while we talk makes me feel like I am there hanging out with him.   This highlight will be one that I hope occurs a few times a week now.

IMG 0006

8.  Brookers always asks to sit on my lap while I blog so here is a picture from the computer of us blogging in our home office (aka the south side of our kitchen table).

Photo on 10 6 15 at 4 18 PM

9.  Stumbling upon this Portable Pizza Pouch because “no one should ever be without pizza.”

Who will be running the Chicago Marathon this weekend?  Who has in the past?  Tell me about it!!!

What race is next for you if you have any planned right now?

Last restaurant that you ate at?

-I’m pretty sure my normal 3 food establishments that we eat at dozens of times a month must be worried about us because we have been MIA.

What things were packed in your lunchbox when you were in elementary school?

-All I know is that if my mom ever packed me some dunkaroos—>  I must have done something really good.

Chefs Table is so good! Last places I ate at were all in Minneapolis – McCormick and Schmick and Panera Bread (my favorite after a race!)

Next up is Thunder Road Marathon in Charlotte! Chicago is a fun race! It’s been a few years since I ran it!

Love the video! Brooke is too cute!

So glad that you’re feeling better! And that salad looks amazing…making my heart sing as well :) I’m not doing Chicago, but I am doing a half in Ohio! It’s my second half this year and I’m hoping to set a new PR!

For some reason when I think of lunches in elementary school I always think of olive loaf…my mom always picked that up for our lunch meat and I hated it! I have a feeling she only got that a few times but I guess it scarred me for life because that’s all I remember!

Reply

Omg my parents did the olive loaf too…with ketchup!!! Gag!!!

Reply

I ran Chicago last year and loved it!!!!!
NYC is next for me!
Last restaurant: chipotle
Lunchbox: my mom always put fruit, hummus, and pita in my lunchbox

I ran Chicago in 2013 and it was my first BQ. It was the best race ever!!! I am so jealous of everyone running it this year :) Up next… Rock n Roll Savannah Marathon in exactly 1 month!

Reply

Love that you’re feeling better and that video!! So precious. I don’t have any big races until a half in December, but I’ll race a 5k later this month and an 8-miler next month.

I loved Fruit-by-the-Foot and Gushers being in my lunch in elementary. I still really love Gushers… :)

Reply

So happy to hear that you are feeling better!!
I will be handing out water at the Hartford Marathon this Saturday, does that count as my next race? ;-)
Last restaurant was “Cruisin’ Cafe” one of my regulars.
I don’t remember what was in my lunch but I do remember that my Mom always drew a fun little picture on the bag.

Reply

I remember always getting a cheese stick and 1 cookie with whatever else. Oh! And a sweet note from my mom—always.

I have a couple 5ks coming up this month! Ready to run my little heart out!

That video is too sweet– she gets cuter and cuter! Lucky mama ;)

I’m really glad you are feeling better! I have not run the Chicago Marathon, but I stream it every year. I just ran the Portland Marathon and my next race is a half in March.

Reply

I have Nashville 13.1 on Halloween and St. Jude Marathon in December! I remember sometimes having those sugar cigarettes for desert in my lunchbox :) Your daughter is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen!

Reply

I have back to back half marathons in my neighborhood this weekend. Rock n roll Brooklyn half on Saturday and Staten Island half on Sunday. It’s in lieu of a 20 mile long run. NYC marathon is just 25 days away.

Reply

That pizza pouch though. Sounds awesome!!

Reply

My husband and I are both running Chicago this weekend! This is the first race I’ve ever gone into where I’m not 100% sure where I am at; however I am going to go in there and give it everything I’ve got!!

Glad you are feeling better!

Reply

Brooke is really the cutest kid I think I’ve ever seen.

I think I might need to look into racing the Chicago Marathon soon :)

Right now my next race is Boston (if I can run by then…fingers crossed) but I’m hoping if I make a comeback before that to get some smaller races done this winter. Since Boston had so much snow this last year I have some discounts to races that had to be canceled. Fingers crossed!

Last restaurant I ate at –> The Regal Beagle in Boston (well, Brookline). It’s one of my faves.

Two distinct food phases I went through as a kid –> lunchables with the turkey, cheese and wheat crackers…and for some gross reason, Pepperoni and butter sandwiches. (I have NO IDEA why my mom let me eat them).

Reply

Gushers were my desert of choice in elementary school :)

And that is the cutest version of You are My Sunshine I’ve ever heard!

Reply

Next race is the Savannah RNR Marathon at the beginning of November! The last restaurant I ate at was Barberitos. I’m a big fan of their chips and salsa bar :)

Facetime is the best! I hate living so far away from my family but getting to see them a few times a week makes it a lot easier.

Reply

So happy you are starting to feel better.
Brooke is the cutest!

Reply

My next race is a half marathon through my new home city in China!
Some lunchbox staples growing up were PB&J, Nutella and graham crackers, pretzels. Lots of nutrition right there;)

Reply

Really glad you’re feeling better! Brooke is just too sweet. Love her little voice :-). My mom used to pack me a lot of fruit cups, pretzels and Little Debbie cakes. I loved fruit roll ups growing up!

Reply

Next race is a 5-mile turkey trot! Top five females to cross the finish line get a free frozen turkey; my goal is established. ;)

Last restaurant was Blue Door Pub after the Twin Cities 10-mile race. All of my friends and I crushed our goal times, so we celebrated with burgers! Mine had peanut butter, bacon, pickles, and American cheese on it. YUM.

Reply

Blucy burgers ROCK! I wanted to try mine with PB but was afraid to. Looks like you would recommend it.

Reply

Do it! It was really good.

Reply

Next race for me is the Biggest Loser half marathon in Eau Claire, WI! Knocking out another state while I am living up here in the northern states.
Last restaurant I ate at was a local bar here in Minneapolis on Friday night when I went out for the first time (since I moved here 4 months ago, LOL, sad but true).
I honestly can’t remember what was in my lunch boxes as a kid! I was a picky eater so probably PB&J and something equally bland.

Reply

I am running the Richmond Marathon in November!

Reply

My mother made the best lunches. Everything was in its own tupperware – I sometimes couldn’t fit the bag in my locker because of the big containers! My friends would laugh at how organized it was :) The salad dressing in its own tupperware, salad, a sandwich, maybe even shrimp cocktail! And always a small sweet treat for the end – maybe 3 hershey kisses or something. Lunch overall was always super healthy but my mom understood the need for that sweet ending :)

Reply

My next race is this weekend in park city. I love park city, especially in the fall! Super excited.

Last restaurant I ate at….probably Texas road house? It’s been a while.

when I was in high school, my parents would give me $2 for lunch every day. Half way through high school I started making my own lunch and saving the $2 for gas instead haha. The thing it helped with, that I didn’t think about at the time, was that it helped stop my side aches while running. I still got them, just not as much. My lunch every day had a pb&j sandwich, an apple, carrots and potato chips with ranch to dip them in.

Reply

That’s great to hear that you are feeling a bit better and even got to eat some different food! I rarely go out to dinner. It gets too expensive for a family of four!
I listened to your Runners Connect podcast last week on my long run. Thanks, it was entertaining and informative (I love hearing about running while I’m running!).

Reply

I am so so glad you are getting some relief! That video is absolutely adorable, I can’t get over how cute Brooke is! I ran the Chicago marathon last year as my first marathon and wow what an experience! To be running next to people from 135 countries in the beautiful city of Chicago with the most amazing crowd support- amazing. The Chicago marathon absolutely needs to be on your list!

Reply

So glad to hear that you are feeling better!
I am running my first marathon Sunday – Chicago. I have never been so scared and excited at the same time before. Then in two weeks I will do the Lake Nona half in Orlando with my best friend from college. We’ve talked more strategy about where we will get ice cream after the race than we have about running strategy – ha ha!
My last restaurant meal – there is a diner by my house called Nookies that I eat at way too much, but they have breakfast all day.
Thanks for the podcast ideas – I found that I like running to those! I listened to yours on my last long run, and the Iron Cowboy on my 20 miler and enjoyed both a lot.

Reply

Glad you’re feeling better.

That pizza pouch is the next thing in running fuel belts!!!

Reply

Brooke is so adorable and I love the way she says almond butter. I am not running Chicago. I have never run a large marathon. Next year is my year of venturing out to the larger races. I am not embarrassed to say that I ate at Red Lobster because of the all you can eat shrimp last week. I was a little worried that I may have caused a shortage of shrimp but as it turns out all was well. Have a great day

Janae, you have such a beautiful little girl!! I think you are a wonderful mama and example to her. I’m heartbroken that your body is being difficult after all your hard work. Your attitude and realness about it all is inspiring and the reason I start my day off with hungryrunnergirl :) I think you need a watermelon pouch… ;)

That pizza pouch is clutch! I have my next race in 2 and a half weeks here in Houston! Lets get the weather cooler first!

I’m so glad you’re feeling better. Here’s hoping that you keep getting better with each passing day.

I am so glad you are starting to feel better. I hope you continue to feel better and better!! I love Brooke’s video. I find it amazing when they start learning to spell their name. Children are so amazing. The “Just tell it to me straight Doc…” is hilarious. Next half is Disney in January but I may do a few training races before it.

Reply

Due to GI issues, I am now strict gluten-free.. after doing the food-elimination diet with a log of all my foods, it was clearly gluten. Anyway, I am going to be honest and say that it is safer to not eat out, but we have a few awesome all gluten free restaurants in Seattle–so far, I’ve been to and love Capitol Cider.

I wouldn’t eat sandwiches growing-up.. so I always brought cheese and crackers. If and when we had dessert it was always a homemade bar-cookie. :)

Reply

I’m so excited to run Chicago!!!

Reply

Good luck!!!

Reply

Glad you’re feeling better! That video of Brooke was too cute!

The last restaurant I ate at was this delicious Vietnamese place near our house and we ordered pho as usual. We went after church on a super gloomy/rainy day so it was perfect!

Reply

LOVE the Chicago Marathon! Sadly didn’t get into the lottery this year so heading to Lake Tahoe to run 26.2 there instead! Ran Chicago last year and it was incredible … Definitely recommend it if you have the opportunity to get out here!

Had dinner at RPM Italian last night for a friend’s 30th birthday (Giuliana and Bill Rancic’s restaurant)! It was awesome … Especially the Italian donuts!!

Favorite lunch box items: Fruit snacks (the trix ones), Squeezits, Dunkaroos!!

Reply

Yay for real food!! I’ve never run Chicago but it’s on my bucket list! I’ve run a few half marathons there and it’s a great city to run in…and visit…and eat in.

I’m currently training for the Richmond Marathon which is in 38 days!!!! But who is counting?

Last restaurant I ate at was this place here in Atlanta called Stoney River Steakhouse. They have amazing steaks including a Coffee Cured Filet…..the only way it could be better is if it was bacon wrapped!

Reply

we used to get bologna, mayo, American “cheese” on white bread and a twinkie in our lunch box, yikes it is a wonder we ever were able to learn anything. On good days we got PB&J. LOL.My kids had fruit rollups or fruit snacks (gummy type) in their lunch everyday.

Reply

I am CRYING laughing about the pouch! I’m thinking stocking stuffers for everyone this year. SO hysterical!

I’m 21 weeks pregnant, and while I always pictured myself being the pregnant runner, it has taken serious serious hit. It really really bummed me out at first, but we are all so different, and running has just been incredibly incredibly hard for me, especially through the first trimester. Now I’m feeling good to get a long walk in with little bursts of jogs when I can, but it’s also exciting being able to look forward to running again after baby, and I’ve even thought ahead to a few small races a few months after baby comes. Even though I know it will feel like starting from scratch, it will be so sweet to have a little buddy to do it with! :)

Reply

Second year to run Chicago!! Love it. Glad you’re feeling better. You’ll be back out tearing it up in no time.

Reply

Last ate at Chick Fil A because I have kids. Chicago is an amazing course (very scenic and flat), and it’s an amazing city. The deep dish butter crust pizza from Lou Malnati’s will change your life and tell your brother they are (randomly) opening one in Arizona.

Reply

I don’t remember what my mom packed me, but I do remember trading my entire lunch for a bag of name brand Doritos. My mom only bought store brand “Doritos” and they were terrible. I got a phone call home about that one.
In my ten years of single motherhood, my boys have never wished for me to be married. I remember 7 years ago, the first time I brought my (now) fiancé home to meet the kids. The “don’t touch my mom, don’t touch my Doritos” commercial was popular then. My 6-year-old son used that line on him. My 3-year-old blurted out for absolutely no reason “You’re not my dad, ya know.” And the 9-year-old said, “You know my mom has two boyfriends.” My lasagna must’ve been real impressive because he’s still around. He is the only boyfriend my kids have ever met, and I will never forget that night! Maybe it’s because they’re boys, or maybe less Disney princess movies.

Reply

I hope to one day make it to Chicago to run their marathon. It is a goal of mine before I turn 40. In the mean time I’ll stick to my half marathons. My next one is a local one here in San Diego, next month. It should make it race #6 for me thus year.

Reply

I’m running Chicago Marathon!!
Flying tomorrow morning from Barcelona, long trip, better reward!!

I’ll think with all of you and your motivation to finish the marathon strong and enjoying it!

Reply

My next race is a half in Albuquerque at Duke City Marathon in a couple of weeks. This is my first half, I ran a marathon as my first long race!

In elementary my mom would pack a half sandwich for me. I would ask for two pieces of bread so she would fold the sandwich! She apparently was wise to my tiny appetite and also very good at psychology.

Reply

Nothing on the race docket for me. Just taking it easy.
– last restaurant was Panera last week, there autumn squash soup is no joke, delicious!
-A little debbie oatmeal pie :)

Reply

1. That soup is amazing. I love it so much! I get the soup and Turkey Cranberry flatbread combo… so yummy.
2. I always had an oatmeal pie in my lunch, too! Well, enough that I eventually burned out on them at least. But now they bring back such memories.

Reply

I got sick of them too! I see them and smile :)

Reply

I’m running Chicago this weekend!!! It will be my second marathon, and I’m so stoked to go out and set a PR! I get to run with my best friend and my fiance and his family will be there to cheer for me. I have two days left of work to get through… but Chicago and marathoning are all I can think about.

Wish we luck!

Reply

Haha! That pizza pouch is awesome! They need one of those for your donuts!

Reply

I’m so happy to hear that you’re feeling better too. It’s tough when you’re under the weather and just want to be yourself. I can certainly relate to that!

Reply

Ran Chicago last year and it was one of my least favorite marathons. Too many people, so expensive (between the entry and hotel. the flight wasn’t too bad), and just disappointing compared to all the hype. Plus, I prefer some rolling hills vs. completely flat. I know a lot of people that love the Chicago marathon, so maybe I’m just weird. :)

Next up is Marine Corps in a couple weeks, which practically takes place in my backyard. My favorite marathon of all time!

Last restaurant… hmm.. I was in Portland, OR the last few days with a cold. It was usually grabbing a salad from Potbelly outside the hotel and taking it back to the room where I moped about being so sick that I couldn’t run the marathon. My lunch boxes as a kid usually included a turkey sandwich and bag of chips. Exciting stuff. ;)

Reply

BROOKE IS THE CUTEST EVER!!!!!!
My next race is the Detroit International Half (YAY!!) The course goes through downtown Detroit, across the Ambassador Bridge and into Canada!! I’m so excited!!
I ate at Einsteins Bagels yesterday. I ate the Southwest Egg White (DELICIOUS!!) and a cup of the Broccoli Cheddar soup (STEER CLEAR!!!! Sooo salty and thick. Bleeegh)
Soooo glad you are feeling better!!! ?

Reply

She is so cute!!!!
Hahahaha, love the pizza pouch necklace ;)

Reply

I have seen this pizza pouch everywhere!!! So funny. I’m glad your feeling better and able to eat some blah-less food. I just recently went to dinner at Jines, a local diner here in the area with a friend I haven’t seen in months. I just love catching up!! Next race is Runners World Half on the 18th. I’m hoping that my knee holds up!!

Reply

I’m running the Steamtown marathon this Sunday! It’s my first full and I’m really excited! :)

The last place I ate out was a diner, the last actual nice restaurant was a German restaurant with the boyfriend and his dad.

Lunchbox: cheese stick, squeez-it (drink, does anyone else remember those?), sandwich of some variety.

Reply

OH MY that watermelon salad looks AMAZING!!!! When I first started to have stomach problems I spent months food journaling about all sorts of TMI things that happened after each meal/food/etc… but sadly it produced no patterns that were helpful. I wish you the best of luck with your GI – and from experience, don’t be afraid to get second opinions or switch doctors. Seems like they all have different takes on things like this. Hope you continue on the upswing.

This year is very sad for me because this will be the first year in SEVEN that I haven’t run the Chicago Marathon; I ran every year from 2008-2014. I live there, so logistics on race day are easy for me. I know that course like the back of my hand–every turn, every aid station, every landmark. I’m getting teary just thinking about it.

I’m missing it this year because my husband and I are going through infertility treatment and I do not have medical clearance to train or run a marathon. I’ll also miss the 2016 race because either I’ll be (a) finally pregnant or (b) still in treatment. It’d be one thing to miss it for a happy reason, but it’s so sad to miss it and have nothing to show for it. I’m back to racing in 2017 either way.

Chicago is a VERY flat course which is hard on the quads. The runners are dense in the first eight miles and then loosen up, but so are the crowds–you get the best cheering in the first third of the race.

Miles 18-23 can be very hard and lonely. It’s in the least pretty part of the course with the least spectators,. Either you’re having a good day and don’t mind or you’re having a bad day and it’s the worst. There’s no shade. There’s no cover. It’s brutal. This is where all of the mental training needs to kick in.

I think Chicago, as a World Marathon Major, has a great start/finish line set-up and the volunteers are the best! Best of all…FREE BEER IN THE CHUTE! Be sure to get your free Goose Island 312 or Green Line beer as you make your way back to bag check. Plus you get ANOTHER free beer at the official Post Race Party.

I could write all day about how awesome ChiMara is. I’ll be there cheering, likely around mile 22-23. I plan to have a sign or three–“If you’re going through hell, keep going” for sure–so look for me!

Best of luck to all racers this weekend, wherever your race is!

Reply

I’m so sorry Mary. I hope your treatments are successful and your missed marathon next year has you sitting with your feet propped up and a bowl of ice cream balanced on your big preggo belly. Good luck to you!

Reply

Thank you Stephanie!

Reply

Best of luck Mary! I know the feeling all too well. It wasn’t always easy but so worth it in the end. I remember telling myself over and over “there is a time and place for everything and right now is not my time to focus on running but instead get my body ready for baby(s).

Brooke is so precious and happy, it’s contagious!

I love your pizza pouch photo! I recently had to dump my boyfriend because he got upset I ate a slice of pizza. Pizza always wins.

Reply

Half marathon this weekend.

You need to do Chicago because then you can visit Chris, Hope, and I!

Reply

Glad you are feeling better, stomach issues are pretty rotten. (and I remember the tests for GI problems as pretty gross).

I am running the Staten Island half this weekend. It’s actually a local race for me and I don’t have to get up ridiculously early. (it’s the little things).

Brooke has the cutest voice.

My favorite lunch was when my mom made pb&j and packed an orange. (she didn’t do snacks or sweets in our lunches). The worst was when my dad packed it and sent olive loaf or liverwurst. My mother kaboshed those pretty quickly.

Reply

I’m running Chicago, God willing! My dad had a quadruple bypass unexpectedly yesterday and so we are with him at the hospital. He is stable and doing well, and we are so grateful!!! It has been a crazy week and I can relate to what you’ve been through lately as I didn’t know if all my plans would be over ?. So far, so good and I will run this race for my dad….❤️❤️??

Your child is the cutest. Period.

I am running the Chicago marathon!! It will be my first and I am equal parts nervous and excited!

Started reading your blog about 3 years ago and it is a larger reason I upped the running in my workout routine and have since run my first half and (about to be) first full marathon, so thanks for the inspiration!

Reply

That watermelon salad looks glorious!!! One time I had a watermelon and ahi tuna salad which sounds a little weird but it was AMAZING.

I loved fruit snacks when I was young. Fruit gushers and then the Sunkist brand specifically. …who am I kidding. I still love them!

I am not running Chicago but one of my best friends is so I will be following. Best of luck to all runners!!!

Reply

I could listen to Brooke saying ‘ahmen butta’ all day, every day :)

Next race is a 1/2 marathon on Oct. 25th. So glad you’re feeling better!

Reply

Brooke is adorable! Ran the Chicago Marathon 2007, the year there was extreme heat where they had to cancel midway. Yep, that was fun! Fortunately I was able to finish. I was literally at mile 26 when race volunteers were telling us to stop running bc the race was canceled. That race holds the record for my personal worst, an hour more than my PR. Always a reminder that even on the days we are prepared and feeling good there can always be something that happens that makes us have to change our plans. Such a parallel for life! Glad you’re feeling better!

Reply

I’m not doing the Chicago marathon, but a bunch of my friends are doing it! They’ve been training hard, so I’m super excited for them!

I’ll be doing either the Philly half or full marathon with my students in November. Although I love marathons, I haven’t done a half in a while, so I feel like it might be fun!

Agreed with the Dunkaroos – such a special treat in elementary school. Cheers to our moms for being awesome!

I am running Chicago this weekend! It’s my first full marathon and just thinking about it gives my butterflies in my stomach. I am so nervous! I am hoping that by running in a new city and all of the energy will help push me through!

The last restaurant I ate at was sadly McDonalds, we have a terrible-two child right now and taking her to any other restaurant gives me anxiety:)

My lunchbox was boring. I got bologna sandwiches or PBJ’s which were fine, but never got any of the fun drinks or Little Debbie snacks. My kids are spoiled now since I am living vicariously through their lunchboxes.

Reply

Brooke is adorable!! I’m not sure what the next race I’m doing is… maybe a 10K next week, and possibly a 50k after that. I’m having surgery next month and want to get in massive racing before then!
I didn’t like peanut butter as a kid (crazy!) so my mom would pack jelly and cream cheese sandwiches. I’d always have a Little Debbie in there, too, and sometimes a HandiSnack (cheese and crackers.) Not the healthiest combo, but it sure was tasty. Dunkaroos were pretty amazing… do they still make those?

Reply

Love, love, love the video!! Brooke is at my favorite age. 3-4 is just so fun!

Next race: Canyon City Marathon on November 7th – ONE MONTH from today!!!! Eeeeeekkk!!

It’s been way too long since I was in school (graduated in 1982!) I don’t really remember what was packed in my lunch. I do remember coming home to fresh baked cookies a lot. My Mom loved to bake!

Reply

I am so glad you are starting to feel better! My next race is this weekend, the Long Beach Marathon-our first full marathon! The nerves are starting to shift from fear to excitement and anticipation!! Last restaurant I ate at was Café Rio, they should really make you their spokesperson. Never heard of it until you mentioned it and then I found out there is one 5 miles from my house!

Reply

Yay, for yummy good. Glad you are feeling better. Really soon you can carry your own pizza pouch when your stomach can handle it. Heck we all need a pizza pouch

11+ days until my first marathon. Nursing my right IT band and worried about clothing choices – it will be colder than I anticipated. Hi of 60 and Lo of 39 that day…guessing race time will be 44-54 degrees. So recommendations welcome.

Reply

I LOVE the Chicago Marathon!!! I ran it in 2013 and 2014. If ever there was a day I was sad that I couldn’t run because I was pregnant…it will be this coming Sunday. Chicago itself is a wonderful city, but something about the marathon gives it a little extra buzz. I love it and it’s addicting.

Brooke’s run like the wind shirt, too cute!

I have always wanted to try Chef’s Table and now, after this post, I only want to try it more. Looks so good and it makes me so happy that you were able to eat it without getting violently ill.

That video is so stinkin cute. I know that it might not be as adorable for her to say almond butter like that when she is 25, but I kind of never want it to change.

To be honest, I bet Tacos 180 and Cafe Rio are legitimately worried about you. In fact, they should probably throw you a welcome back party when you are finally okay to eat there again. It really is the least they can do ;)

My mom was all about health when packing my school lunches. They usually included a small tupperware of cold cereal (never the healthy kind either) and I bought a carton of milk to pour on it and eat. As side dishes I had handi-snacks, fruit by the foot and dunkaroos. Sounds like a pretty balanced meal to me. (But seriously. Dunkaroos really were the bomb dot com)

It sounds like your doctor is great. My husband was sick with his stomach for months, and unfortunately his doctor was not very helpful. He was eventually diagnosed with IBS, but the doctor was not sure of the cause and was not interested in it. My husband did the Whole 30 diet (sooo painful), but though it he found that soy was causing his problems–and it is everywhere.
I hope that you are able to find answers!

It is one of my life goals to run Chicago. Maybe in 2017.

I have my whole next 12 months pretty much planned for races. I have a Turkey Day 5K as my next one, but notable for next spring/summer are Run to the Pub Half Marathon, Yellowstone Half Marathon, Missoula Marathon. I’m going to have to find a way to fill the gap between November and March!

I don’t remember much about school lunches, but I lived in S. California when I was in grade school. Pomegranites are a favorite lunch, but the school banned them. LOL Too messy.

I’m tickled to see you getting to go out for dinner and have something you love to eat. Here is to getting on the mend!

Oh, I heard Missoula is a great race! It’s on my bucket list. :)

✋? I’ll be in Chicago!!! Looking to make this one a PR. My March 2015 BQ was short 4 seconds of getting me into Boston 2016. Chicago is hopefully going to be my golden ticket. I’m feeling good about this race. I’m ready to solidify my spot for Boston 2017.

Side note: I suffered an ulcer a year ago and I can understand and sympathize with the pain. I’d take labor any day over that! I hope you get answers on how to keep from having a recurrence. Looking forward to reading your running adventures soon.

I ran Chicago last year, and it was awesome! I think it was my 8th full, and it was definitely my happiest race. I had an exhausting weekend, as I’m a wedding photographer and I just couldn’t bring myself to turn down a wedding the day before the race, so I worked all day on Saturday, then drove four hours down to Chicago, only got a couple hours sleep, then ran. I wrote a couple posts about my ridiculous weekend- I hope the recap makes you feel like you were there with me!

I AM RUNNING CHICAGO!! WEOO!! I leave tomorrow morning and I’m super nervous and excited! :D

it has taken serious serious hit. :)
