I have ten very important things to discuss with you this afternoon.
1. The alarm clock went off early this morning to go run and I could not get out of bed for the life of me. My decision to not get up = I spent some time later on with the treadmill while Brooke played and watched a show.
The workout:
All miles @ 7:30 besides the stride portion.
Include 12 strides lasting 45 seconds with each one building from a 7:00 to 5:30 pace, Recovery of 1 minute between each stride @ 8:00 pace.
8 miles total—> 7:20 average pace
These days I can handle up to about an hour on the treadmill as long as I have a workout with variety and some really good tunes to listen to.
2. I was driving around the other day and I spotted one of the HUNGRY shirts. Tedi was about to start her last long run before her FIRST marathon this weekend. She is going to rock it. She is pretty amazing.
3. If you remember my excitement about having a coke can with my name on it… then you can only imagine my excitement when a Cheerios box arrived with my name on it.
4. Brooke had quite the look of determination on her face as she was chasing the pup.
5. Lunch last week with Megan out on the curb. I’ll forgive her that she chooses to wear Nikes on her feet over Brooks.
6. She really is killing it with the facial expressions lately.
7. Brooke pretends she is a dog quite frequently. She also uses it to get out of things that she doesn’t want to do. i.e. ‘but momma, doggies don’t clean their room… doggies don’t eat carrots…. etc.’ Her latest thing is she doesn’t want to wear pants/shorts. So now I just google images of dogs doing these sorts of things and show it to her and then she will do it. It has worked every time so far.
8. Bagels and cream cheese. What dreams are made of.
9. My nephew was thrilled to run into me at the football game on Saturday when he was with all of his friends. Ecstatic.
10. Lindsey sent this to me yesterday and it made me happy for about an hour straight.

I am really excited and nervous about a 10k I’m racing this weekend. I haven’t raced in SO long, and I’ve been picking up my miles and paces lately. I hope I’m ready!!
I love the Saucony Kinvaras. Those are my go-to kicks. :)
Those salads look delicious!!
Sarah @ SarahRuns26
I wear Asics Nimbus about 90% of the time.
Workout today is a tempo run after work! It’s still hot here, so it’ll be on the treadmill!
I have a 5k coming up and I’m more concerned with that than the marathon the weekend after the 5k. I haven’t done a 5k in years! And I’m pacing a friend. It could get interesting. Other Monday matters – I bought kiwis yesterday and they are pretty phenomenal right now. Good impulse fruit purchase!
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes
You should tell Brooke that some doggies like to eat carrots! My puggle loves to munch on them, probably because they’re so crunchy. Today’s workout was 10 miles with 4 x 1.5 miles at half marathon effort. I wear Brooks Running shoes all the time – I love their Pure line!
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
Love the cheerios :) I switch between Asics and Mizunos for the most part although I’ve thrown in Brooks Adrenaline a few times and they’re great.
Nona @ RunningHigh
Always Brooks! I tried Mizuno’s once and I will never stray from Brooks again.
Jenny
Mizunos are always my go to running shoe. Have been since High school, but lately I’ve been wondering about Brooks…what is the closest brooks shoe to the Mizuno wave riders? Do you know?
Thats a great way to get kids to do things they don’t want to do. I’m considering taking that up with my kids.
Katie
Today was a rest day so I did yoga. Yesterday I was the first female and third overall in a 20 mile race! It was fun, I celebrated with a donut (you inspired me)!
The Hungry Runner Girl
HUGE CONGRATS KATIE!! That is seriously so awesome and donuts are the absolute best way to celebrate!
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles
Adidas Energy Boosts. The best!
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul
Yay for the personalized cheerios box! That’s huge!!
Shay @ Great Now What
Oh my goodness “doggies don’t clean their room”- I need to start saying that! I actually just took my pup out on a run (2 days in a row) it was short and slow, but so nice to switch things up!
Haylie
Just tell Brooke that my puppy loooooves carrots! She also loves tortilla chips ;)
Brittnee
I was just like Brooke! I always pretended I was a dog! I had to see an eye doctor from when I was 2 years old on up, and apparently one time in the optical I was supposed to be trying on glasses but was too busy acting like a puppy to put on the glasses! I don’t remember it, but years later we saw the lady that used to help us and she had to bring it up ;)
I have so many retired Mizunos that I’m usually wearing them, but I have some new Brooks too that I like a lot!
Caitlyn @ Candid Cerebrations
I’m absolutely dying at number 7. I’m meeting up with friends for a nice run around the outer loop of Central Park later (10k). As for running shoes, always Nike. I know people usually aren’t a fan. But I think I’m addicted to the flyknit material. I tried wearing Mizunos and I kept feeling the seams and it drove me crazy.
Rachael @ Catch Me if You Can
that last picture of the puppies is perfection! I retired from mizunos for the cushion of the hokas, they are giving me a nasty blister but the cushion for me knees is just awesome.
Paige S
I recently broke up with Mizunos and am a full-time Saucony wearer now. I rotate between the Hurricanes and the Mirages!
Workout: 8 mile tempo finished before 7:15 AM. Monday though…I did have to drag myself out of bed. There is something so satisfying about accomplishing a run like that SO early.
Meagan
I’ve been running in my Nike’s lately but I’m due for a new pair so suggestions are welcome!
Jessica
For longer runs, I like Asics. For shorter distances and cross training, I prefer Nikes.
Kelli at Not Your Mama's Marathon
Monday Matters: Just being depressed from my race on Saturday (my first DNF, ugh) and dreaming yet again of Boston! Sadly I think I am out of the running game for a couple months with my pulled calf muscles.
No workout, just icing and resting the legs :)
BROOKS, duh!
Rachel @ Simply Rachel Nicole
I love the face that Brooke is pulling! She is so cute! I’m all about Brooks for my runs, because they offer more support than any other shoes that I have tried. :)
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine
Brooks are definitely my favorite! I haven’t worn anything else in about 5 years!
Barbara
Addias energy boost for me.
Amanda B @ Cupcakes & Miles
I love love love my Brooks Glycerins! And today is an off day for me.
[email protected].
No workout for me today – it is a rest day! I did climb the three floors of my high school 5x today. That counts right?!
I wear New Balance and Brooks now!
Kathy McElhaney
Saucony is my go to brand – one of the few that carries shoes small enough for my size 5 feet! Currently loving the Ride.
Rest day for me and it rained! I was so happy to stay in bed listening to the rain. Hoping for more here in dry, drought plagued California.
Margaret @ Happy Healthy PDX
I used to be a Nike girl (I think it’s a default when you grow up in Portland) but now I am 100% in love with my Brooks Adrenalines. I promised myself a new pair of shoes after I finish m y first marathon in 3 weeks and I’m going to be good and actually get properly fitted this time.
Today = rest day. It was peak mileage weekend and after 22 miles Saturday and a 10K “recovery” race yesterday, my feet want to fall off. So I am chilling in my plantar fasciitis compression sleeve.
Kelly
Resting today after my 20 yesterday. Normally, I try to do a recovery run but, wasn’t feeling it today. Lately, I’ve been loving my Adidas adizero adios Boost but tend to rotate. I supinate so the challenge is real!
Kaitlin
My Monday matter is that I started training for my first full marathon (which will be in January). I’ve done quite a few halves (5) but never a full. So many feelings.
I’m a Brooks girl through and through. Pure Cadences have gotten me through many a race!
Sara @ LovingOnTheRun
I’m running Chicago on October 11th and I’m excited but also really nervous. Not sure what this one has in store for me!
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
I used to be a Brook’s person, but after an affair with Mizuno (which I still wear now & then) I moved onto Saucony Triump which I LOVE! Do Nike’s even have support for your feet? I wore Nike’s years ago and have no idea what they’re like now. They look very low profile and that’s no bueno for someone like me with foot problems.
Jennife @ JenChoosesJoy
Monday matters: it feels like Fall in TN and I just made a cauliflower cream sauce and ravioli for dinner!!
Workout: 9 miles at easy pace
I wear all brands but have lately discovered the Brooks Launch 2!
Jess W. @ Run Life Co.
Brooke’s facial expressions are amazing!! You have a model/actress on your hands. :P
My Monday matters:
1. Marathon recovery
2. Tomato picking on my sister’s farm
3. Track/running practice with my students
Annie r
That is hilarious about Brooke!! You have to keep us posted with the other pictures of dogs doing these things!! Also I ran for 5 minutes today for the first time in almost 9 weeks! Pretty excited about it but it felt VERY awkward. Now lots and lots of stretching and icing!
Suzy
BAHAHAHAHA! Love the nephew pic. My son is about the same age and would do the same face. LOVE IT. Btw, I can’t even handle how you can get in the fives on the treadmill. That pace is just sick. SICK. You’re incredible.
Mary
back at work! after a looong vacation. very busy day today! but it was good. got a lot of stuff done, and really filled the day!
Caroline
Dogs in pants. Hysterical and GENIUS!
You sent some cool weather this way, so thanks!!!
It was kinda a nice change not to be drowning in my own sweat after this mornings run.
Erica
It is usually asics, but right now I am cheating with a pair of Brooks.
MaryM
I found Brooks a few years ago because of my high arch (Pure 2’s) but after they changed the Pure shoes (the 3’s) I switched to Newton. I have a thin foot with a high arch and their changes rubbed my feet in all the wrong places :( I love the Newton Motion, Distance, and Kismet (any really) and I use a high arched insert. The Motions are pricey but I found them at Fit2Run on sale for $79.00. I hope they go on sale again. My husband just got me a pair of Hoka Clifton 2’s to try because of the cushioning. The jury is still out as I have only used them once.
My doggie loved carrots her entire life. The vet told me they were a good snack for dogs. :)
Melissa
Monday Matters: I was baking up a storm this afternoon. A batch of mini GF zucchini breads and a GF pear/apple crisp (it was dessert tonight..yum!)
-Today was a rest/recovery day. I went for a 6 mile walk. Beautiful weather :)
-Just got a pair of Brook’s so far so good. :)
Becky @ Ok, so here's the plan
We’re running out of clean dishes at our house because we have construction going on and I can’t really do the dishes right now. We’ll be eating out a bit this week…
I had cross training on the schedule today, but I was feeling super lazy and ended up just doing a half hour of yoga.
I rotate my shoes all the time. I have Brooks, Mizuno and Saucony. I also have other brands for trail shoes. I have a bit of a shoe problem.
Marissa @ Run Riss Run
Love the dogs!!
I had a sick kiddo today so I got to stay home with him. Today was repeats in the rain with my team. It was pretty awesome! I work with a shoe tester so I pretty much wear anything. Lately, it’s been Saucony and Adidas.
Megan K.
Oh my…my nephew was doing the same thing this weeekend…”I’m a doggy and doggies have paws and can’t clean up toys”. So funny how their minds work!
Amber
My daughter pretends to be a dog sometimes. The other day she pulled down her pants, lifted her heg, and peed on a bush. Proud parent moment! ;)
Michelle
#7 is cracking me up!!
Nina
My dog Missy loves carrots, cucumbers, crunchy lettuce and tomatoes. She will sit and wait if the vegetables are left on the counter.
I had a nice easy run yesterday, the weather was cool so and enjoyable for a change.
I generally run in Nike, they fit my feet best.
Shannon
My dog Harley loves and begs for veggies, esp carrots!!!
Tedi @ running with infertility
Haha Janae! You are so cute! Thanks for the confidence boost!! It was so great talking to you!
Grace @ Diary of a Running Snail
I am actually laughing out loud at your method to convince Brooke to do things. That dog with pants is absolutely hilarious. You deserve the mother of the year awards for sure!!
Yesterday I had a 9 mile long run. Yup, on a Monday. And I loved it:)
I am usually sporting a pair of Sauconys but I do love my Nikes for cross training/strength training/walking around!
Charlotte
Brookes Defyance and prior to that, the Brookes Ghost. I really love the brand because I find that you can get them with a narrower fit to most other running shoes on the market which works really well for my feet!
I have a lot of respect for your hour long treadmill sessions- 30 minutes and I am usually clawing at the walls wanting to get outside! xx
Kay
Yay for personalized Cheerios!
