My longest run since Boston!

My craving for a good long run was satisfied yesterday.

Sixteen ‘happy feet’ miles—>  and it was my longest run since the Boston Marathon back in April.  I got back in time to get the Brookers up and I think we were both pretty thrilled to be twinners in our purple outfits.  I just need to get her some purple running shoes and then we will be golden!

Just me, my tunes and some pretty great scenery.

The first 8 miles were a gradual uphill with a headwind and the last 8 were a gradual downhill with a tailwind. The legs were very happy to turn around at mile 8 and cruise down back to my car.

The splints went a little like this—>  7:40, 7:44, 7:55, 7:44, 7:43, 7:37, 7:42, 7:45, 6:42, 6:44, 6:35, 6:46, 7:13, 6:52, 6:54, 6:50.

7:17 average pace with a few stops along the way for drinks, stoplights and to talk to Josse for a minute (she was riding her bike… her ankle has been bugging her again so she is taking time off).

Brooke helped me to stretch out afterwards.  She makes a great athletic trainer.

And then we hit up Costco to buy every carb on the planet for a church social today!  Why is bread in every shape and form so delicious?!

IMG 5438

My mom got the whole family together for lunch and you know something is tasty when my brother-in-law goes around the table sampling out his food.

IMG 5462

These two are already pretty tight.

IMG 5455

Yep, sushi for the third time this week.  I don’t know if you have noticed this or not but I tend to get addicted to something for a solid 4-6 weeks and eat it as much as possible before moving on to my next thing.  Had some salmon and yakisoba noodles with this too.

IMG 5473

Split some froyo and walked around Downtown SLC afterwards.

IMG 5477

And today we will be making popsicles (feel free to share any of your favorite popsicle recipes with us:).

I hope you have a relaxing Sunday full of your favorite things!   Let me know what is going on in your world today!!!!

I’m running the Nike Women’s Half too!!! Have you done it yet? I’ve been racing this one (in San Francisco) since 2005.

Yup, I ran it in 2007. Great event!!

Throw so Greek yogurt, berries and almonds together and freeze and you will have trail mix Popsicles! I’ve been meaning to buy those. I make mine in an ice cube tray.

That is a speedy 16 miler. Wowee!
I’m trying to get out the door for my 9 miles. It’s 80 degrees and 70 percent humidity and my back hurts. Ugh. I know I’ll get it done eventually. Can’t wait for fall!

Love the purple tops, you guys are always so cute :) just finished my first 14, which I think was my longest since Philly back in November! I trained for a half but never went over 13. Congrats on a happy 16!

I’m going to Lake Placid, NY to cheer on the Ironman athletes and volunteer at one of the running special needs stops!

I had a 13 mile run yesterday. I am training for the Portland Marathon which will be my second! I can’t wait for cooler weather. I had to run super early because the temps this weekend are in the 90% with 91% humidity! When cooler weather comes I feel like I will just take off like lightening! haha! Love your purple outfits! Too Cute!

We’re wrapping up the best sleepover yet. Girlie and her friend have been playing so well! We got them donuts for breakfast and they each had like one, leaving 10 for me…

So glad you had a great 16 mile run! Today’s plan is to recover from a busy weekend and catch up on blogging stuff..maybe spend a few hours at the pool too!

Congrats on the great long run! You are going to do amazing at St. George. I had a cutback week with two back to back ten milers yesterday, so today is all about rest and finally enjoying some Seattle rain!

That’s a solid run! I just finished my Sunday run and am going to church, eating froyo, then hanging at the pool. I love lazy summer days. :)

After reading your blog I’m always craving new things. Yesterday was our eventful day. Family reunions and the iron cowboy. Today is church.

I do the same thing with foods. Last week I got sushi for the first time in a while and got it three times since then… Except this is an expensive habit. I should probably try more things like Ramen. Lol

Reply

Nice job Janae and I’m glad yo are getting some runs in.

I do the same things with foods. I haven’t had pancakes at restaurants in a while and now it’s all I eat LOL.

Your run was amazing!! Great job. Finished my 16 too and going to see pixels later.

In the summer I make these popsicles at least twice a week, substituting greek yogurt for the regular: http://www.marthastewart.com/902991/creamy-orange-pops

As for my Sunday? MY SISTER IS COMING TO SEE ME! She and her family are driving seven hours with two littles, and I’m going to feed them til they pop. The only thing wrong with today is that it’s a rest day after yesterday’s long run.

Reply

Nice job! The perfect time to run.

Congrats on the long run!! Brooke and your niece look SO much alike! It’s been raining for over a week here in England and the weather is making me want to curl up in bed and watch movies all day! Hope you’re having a great day :)

The sushi looks so good. I haven’t had it in awhile.

Sushi sounds good! I have a 6 miler today……..this is day 3 of my marathon training, and I am hoping if I follow the speedwork more diligently than before that I will beat 4 hours at my November marathon. I ran in 4:04 for my first marathon, so I am hoping to knock off at least 5 minutes. Speedwork in the summer is not fun though.

Great run!
I do the same thing with my meals- I get stuck on something and eat it constantly for a while, then move on to the next thing!
Just got 5 miles in and now relaxing for the rest of the day.
Happy Sunday!

Thanks for the inspiration!! Just getting back to a regular running routine after 2 “injuries” and running my 1st marathon in March. Can’t wait for the long runs again!!

Reply

I did 16 miles yesterday too. It was my longest run ever. Unfortunately my knee is paying for it so today will be a rest day.

Popsicle recipe:
Blended fresh blueberries: fill 1/3 deep in the molds and freeze
Fill 1/3 with vanilla Greek yogurt and the rest of the way with blended raspberries or cherries and put your stick in before freezing.
Good recovery treat.

Reply

Thank you! We went blueberry picking today and this is exactly what I need!

Reply

I did 13 miles yesterday! It’s amazing how I am not as sore as I was when I ran a half marathon back in January. Definitely going to be taking time to stretch today!

Reply

Ah I have an AMAZING recipe for popsicles! and I want to make some, but literally every store was out of the popsicle molds…. whaat? So it’s coconut water with cut strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. SO good.

OR if you’re looking for chocolately…. nutella and chocolate almond milk. yum!

I can’t wait for it to cool down here so I can do some running trails! it’s been so hot and sunny that i just cant fathom being outside from about 930am-3pm. 90 degree runs in the blazing sun? No thank you. I’m 100% Irish, i will FRY.

Reply

We had some friends come for the weekend, and then i had a 12 miler this morning! Not nearly as hot and humid as it has been which was nice!

Reply

I really want to make fruit popsicles too! I’ll be reading comments for recipes!

Came back from a 2-week holiday in Crete. Lovely trip and lovely sunshine. Now back in Finland with rain..

Great job on your 16-miler! It looks like it was a very pretty, peaceful run!

My Sunday will be spent being lazy and catching up on some reading, oh and a much-needed Costco trip! :)

I did a yoga session this morning, but I am so bad at it, it’s unreal. Hopefully it will help improve my running though. Those are some really impressive splits, and that hill looks more than “gradual”.. Glad you’re running on happy feet again..

Reply

No one is bad at yoga. Just trying and breathing = yoga! Keep it up.

Reply

Congrats on the long run! So many times after an injury much of the battle is getting through the mental aspect of it. You have that beat!

Reply

I had sushi two nights in a row! Once I have it for dinner, I crave it for a while.

Reply

Looks like fun! I just got my 16 miler in as well – first run this long since my May marathon, although I’m not nearly as fast as you. Nice job, enjoy those carbs!

Reply

I have been following your blog for years now, and it still amazes me that you run 16 miles! Let alone a marathon! By now, I should have gotten over this, but nope. You still impress me.

Reply

I had 14 miles that were delayed by rain, and then more rain hit around mile 2. We’re talking downpour! I stood under a tree for a few minutes and then decided to just keep going since I was already soaked!

Reply

My kids and I made some yummy strawberry mango Popsicles a few weeks ago It was just eyeballing it but it was frozen strawberries, frozen mango, and then apple juice until it was a little runny. So great. To get it out of the molds easier once it is frozen just run it under warm water for a second. I think I want to do something with kiwi next time :)

Reply

Congrats on the long run, so glad your foot is feeling better!
-Sunday’s plans are working all day at my clinics UC :)

Reply

Awesome job Janae!! I know that long run had to feel soooo good. Brooke and Curly really do look like sisters in that picture. I think it’s so cute because I do consider my girl cousins my sisters. The sushi and ice cream look amazing :)

Reply

I ran probably the hardest 13 miles of my life – I think the humidity in Florida is getting to me – or I block out the bad runs when I train. Either way, I am happy to have that bad run behind me and hopefully next Sunday’s long run will be on happy feet (and legs) like yours this weekend :)

Reply

Annette, you amaze me… 13 MILES in that Florida weather right now. Wow. You are amazing. You are right, your next long run is going to be amazing. You’ve got this and be proud of yourself for rocking those miles in that weather!

Thank you!
