PureGrit 4 review and late night conversations.

I’ve been sporting the PureGrit 4s out on the trails lately.  As I put more and more miles on them I will keep you updated on my level of love for them but I thought I’d give you the 411 so far.

The PureGrits—>  lightweight running shoes with all of the qualities that come with a pair of awesome trail shoes.

The Grits have a midsole drop of 4mm, they weigh 8.2 oz and they are perfect for runners that have a normal pronation.   I have felt a difference in how light they feel compared to my Cascadias. The Grits offer flexibility while still gripping onto the surface of the trails (take a look at the bottoms of these shoes… hardcore).  This is huge for me because I am klutz and I need a pair of trail running shoes that helps me to avoid slipping/twisting my ankle etc.  They offer plenty of stability and the the nav-band (the bright pink band that wraps around the middle of the foot) keeps your foot in place as you are running along.  The ballistic rock shield keeps your feet nice and safe on the trails.  These also have that BioMoGo DNA midsole which means that the shoe cushioning adapts to YOUR weight/speed/foot/way that you run—>  one of my favorite aspects of Brooks shoes.

I felt like these were almost a little too narrow for my foot though.  I also have huge feet if we remember:)  I loved the narrowness for the fact that it makes it easier for me to navigate on technical portions/single track trails with lots of rocks but they are definitely snug on my feet.  Like any of the PureProject shoes from Brooks the recommended mileage is about 300 miles because they are so lightweight.  I usually get in a few more miles than that on them but that’s just me.  So far I am liking them a lot but I do have a really deep love for my Cascadias!

Today I taught some spin, ran 2.5 miles and then did some planks.  Brooke keeps me accountable with my planks because she likes to come right under me to make sure I don’t quit early:)

You might remember my cute friend Brittany from back when we lived in California.  She moved to Alaska and I moved to Utah but she is in town for the Utah Valley Marathon and so I got to steal her away for a little while.

We took her to do our favorite things.  (Photo credit—>  Brooke Jacobs inc.)

Brittany has a little boy so we took the kiddos to our second home after lunch.

I’ll keep trying to convince her to move to Utah.

All is right in the world again.  My sister is finally back home.  It is sad how much I missed them—> they were only gone a week.  If you saw this huge crew running around NYC in BYU gear… that was my sister and her family and my brother and his family.   We are so going with them next time.  PS if you are wondering about my sister’s back, it is doing much much better!

And back to our normal weirdness.  Our text conversation late last night.

That text is hilarious! Thanks for the info on the shoes. I’ve been searching for a pair of trail running shoes and honestly had no idea where to begin. Will definitely be checking them out!

I am so happy your sister is doing better! Yay for successful surgery. Workout today was a speedy run of 4 miles + rowing + weights. Thursday night = hanging w/ my nephew. Most likely watching a movie while we get a rain storm!

Workout today was biceps, triceps, and … wait for it … 3.1 miles! Released from physical therapy today! I have to keep to no more than a 5K a few times a week until the pain goes away completely, but I’m on the mend! :) :) SO SO glad your sister is doing better!

I’m glad your sister is doing well! It looks like you’ve gotten a lot of use out of those shoes already!

Today I ran 6 miles in the morning and then took my dog for an hour walk. Tonight I am cooking up some salmon and hanging with my dogs watching junk tv.

I love that text! I’m headed for a quick run, but it may have to be treadmill. Houston weather is NO JOKE. I’m listening to Undisclosed, the follow up to Serial, so good.

haha that’s awesome :)

I am going to dinner with a friend tonight at one of my favorite places because it has the best desserts ever.

My workout was a nice walk this morning. My workout yesterday killed me so it was a nice change of pace to just walk out all the stiffness. I’ve been doing the Kayla Itsines workouts and they’re working me hard. I love it!

So glad your sister is better! Looks like they had a blast in NYC!
The Puregrits look so awesome.
Happy Thursday!

I just ran/walked 5 miles. I didn’t plan to walk so much but it’s 90 degrees and I just couldn’t breathe. But 5 miles is 5 miles. I’ll take it as a win. :)
Boyfriend is coming over tonight and I can’t wait to see his face. I got laid off from work. Today was my last day and I am looking forward to his big consoling hugs.

I’m so glad to hear your sister is doing better!
I’ve been wanting to try PureGrits for a while, but I don’t trail run yet, so it’s more for aesthetic reasons that I want them.
Today’s workout was six miles and it was distance PR for my dog! I’m so proud of how much endurance my little puggle has.

Long run tonight. And the watching fixer upper cause I’m a little addicted to that show.

I love the Nike Terra Kigers! They’re light and not too cushioned. I want to feel the trail under my feet.
I ran 6 miles with friends on the road this morning and I’m heading to a trail mixer and run with the ultra dirtbags club this evening!

I’m running my first trail race Sunday but I don’t have trail shoes. I think I’m going to wait and see how this race feels in my regular shoes!

It was great- 3 easy miles with my girlfriends and then I snuck out of work for some upper body weights & restorative yoga!

Oh my gosh, that text exchange is the cutest and sweetest ever! I wish I lived that close to my sister. Yay for you two for having such a great relationship!

Love that text with your sister.

I have a pair of Cascadias too!

I love your black and white shorts! Where are they from?!?!

Reply

Thanks Tricia! They are from Lululemon!

Reply

I thought so! I was looking for those shorts in that print awhile back but they sold out in my size!

Reply

ahahah, that text.

I actually had no idea that Brooks made a pure trail shoe. That is really awesome. For me, they all run way to narrow…if I even wear them to walk around it’s the mens version.

Reply

I got an early morning workout in before work so I’m going to watch the ever-hilarious and entertaining Office and veg out :)

this is random also but you should do a post on your favorite jewelry clothes, etc. I love your style!

Reply

Thanks Amanda… You are so sweet! I will start working on that post right now!!!

Workout was good today! I spent the last 30 doing HIIT strength training with serious weights and now that that is done I am getting back to taking classes where I teach. They are also HIIT, but more crossfit/bootcamp style. No crazy Olympic lifting, but definitely a serious workout.

That outdoor shopping mall looks awesome! I want to visit Utah!

BRITTANY!!! So fun to see you on the blog!! Have fun!

I have a ton of errands to get to tonight, and am praying I find the time for a run. I really need to pound it out on the pavement!

I think Brooke’s gonna pass you in selfie-taking ability. ;)

Reply

Wow, those mountains look amazing…I’ve been racking up a lot of airline points that I’m hoping to use to run in some new places in 2016, I’m thinking more and more that I might need to make it out to Utah.

Reply

I don’t know why Brooks is making their pure project shoes more narrow? The pureflow is now too narrow in the toes for me on my left foot and I already wear the men’s version.

Reply

I will ask them this weekend and get back to you!

Reply

Thanks so much! I’d love to be able to wear the pureflow 5. Have a great weekend!

No trail shoes for me. I’m more of a road runner :p but those are really cute trail running shoes.!
plans for tonight are to watch the NBA FINALS :) should be fun and competitive with my husband.
I did an 8 miler today :) felt really good

Reply

I love your blog! Would you wear the grits on a 50 k trail race? I have invo and my feet are covered in blisters and I lost my big toenail after an 8 mile trail run and I have to run 4 times that so I’m looking for a good trail shoe.

Reply

Hey Michelle! Ouch to the blisters and losing your toenail. I would definitely go try them on and test them out a bit. Try out the Cascadias too… those are my absolute favorites! Good luck… so exciting!

Reply

Perfect timing! I have been thinking about getting the PureGrits for awhile (I am a diehard PureCadence fan) and I think I’m going to bite the bullet. I have narrow feet so it sounds the shoes will fit me perfectly. :)

Reply

I run in the PureGrit 3s. I love them for the rocky steep trails in Boulder. The only thing that’s not so awesome is the lugs hold mud, which has been a really big problem here lately.

Reply

I am a HUGE PureGrits fan. When I saw that the 4s were out I got super excited, but I just literally bought a new pair of the 3s a month or so ago so I will have to wait a little bit. Thank you for the review. I am looking forward to getting my own!

Why did I never realize that I could put emoji’s in with contact info? Genius, Janae.

Haha that text, too funny!

I wish we had more trails here, so that I could justify some cute trail shoes. The trail shoes always have the best colors and obviously that’s super important :) I had a tempo run today (first 8 easy and last 3 at tempo pace). No Thursday evening plans, which translated into watching NCAA track and field while eating dinner. If only we could run as fast as those girls!

Reply

Aww love the closeness of sisters! And so glad she’s doing so much better!!

My workout/Thursday night plans were actually combined–I ran a 5k tonight. It.was.awful. It was about a million degrees outside, and my lack of training was more than obvious. I wanted to quit and thought about walking probably eight times or so. I was so relieved when the finish line was finally in sight. Ugh.

Reply

I’ve been looking for good trail shoes but haven’t done that much research to be honest.

Reply

Those trail shoes sound awesome and they are really cute, too! It’s great your sister is back home – you two have such a fun relationship!

Workout yesterday –> 3-mile walk with my boys in the double stroller. One more walking week before I can try running again after baby! I can’t believe my baby is going to be a month old soon… (says every parent on earth)

Reply

Ah that text made my morning :)

Reply

Question — I have really big feet too (size 10s) but I wear a full size up in my running shoes. Brooks also! Do you wear a full size up or is it just me??

Reply

I just got the PureGrits this morning on sale!! Can’t wait to try them out…I am turning into a trail runner this summer to try to combat the heat.

Also, this is so random but we have the same little counting pig in your plank picture (I feel weird for noticing that, and now the world knows how weird I am)!

Reply

Absolutely love the text convo btwn you and your sister.

I have narrow feet and have been looking for a good trail shoe. I might just give the PureGrits a try!

Reply

Thanks for the shoe review, and I’m glad your sister is doing better!

Interesting that I searched for any reviews on the PureGrit 4 across the entire webisphere, and your’s is the only one I could find! Another Utah Valley person at that. As a guy I initiated my new pair last evening and was very happy with them. I prefer the burrito tongue in the last generation of Brooks shoes over these. I also have various generations of Cascadia, PureConnect, PureFlow. I prefer these over the Cascadia except for light back/daypacking trips. These feel more agile, less clunky, and hold my feet better with almost the same protection (rock shield in the last 2 models) and much improved grip over the first generation. I also don’t mind the split toe design is gone. Not sure of any benefit there, and now you have a little rubber up front to protect from stumps and rocks. Glad you like them too.

Reply

Pure Grit! I love them. The first generation sole was terrible, super slippery downhill or on anything hard (like a rock). I have the 3s and they are so wonderful I wear them even when I’m not on the trail. :-) I like a wide toe box so I hope my 3s last a long time so I can skip right over the more narrow 4s.

Good luck at R&R Seattle. Check out Portage Bay for breakfast if you have time to wait in line. It’s totally worth it!

I have been doing trails in the cascading but have been contemplating the Grits for my next purchase. The cascading are very heavy but I worry about loosing stability on tree roots and what not by down sizing to the Grits. I’m a minimalist runner so my feet can handle the shoe, but I still worry about the tree roots and little rocks. I do think I’ll give them a whirl!

love your sissy, btw I wear a 11.5 running shoe and I am only 5’7″
