Lake time, treadmill time and our favorite date combination.

Most Saturday mornings in my world start with a long run but yesterday we switched things up a bit and we hit Utah Lake up instead.

Brooke got to go hang out with her best friend while I went boating.  They went on a little hike and Paige said that they held hands the entire time.

I mean if they happen to get married in the future we will have a heck of a lot of cute pictures for their wedding video;)

IMG 2225

Yep, lots.

IMG 2240

Okay, back to boating.  Diet Coke always tastes good to me but somehow it tastes even more amazing while boating under the hot sun.

IMG 2224

I tried out wake surfing for my first time ever and it was a blast.

There were some moments that looked like this:

And a whole lot of moments that looked like this:

Practice makes perfect and I guess I am just going to have to go boating a bunch this summer so I can get really good at it.

Afterwards I took Brooke swimming for a bit and then she played (and took a picture of me running) while I ran 5 miles on the treadmill.  I was reminded again that I am a morning runner…  afternoon running is tough!

Once nighttime rolled around Brooke and I set out for our absolute three favorite date activities together:

IMG 2270

1.  Cafe Rio steak salads.

IMG 2271

2.  Froyo.  I bet you can’t tell which one is mine.

IMG 2282

3.  Target.    Brooke scored a donut backpack while we were there.  I couldn’t turn her down when she said she needed a ‘pretty donut pack for school.’  Yes, she has me wrapped around her little finger.

I’ve never tried wake surfing but tried to water ski last summer and it kicked my butt. My back was so sore afterwards I probably won’t ever try it again! Looks like such a fun day and I love those hand holding pics!

What a cute date! Those two are adorable together.

I’m jealous of Brooke’s backpack, do you think she’d let me borrow it?

Today we are doing family night dinner at our house and they get to meet our new puppy for the the first time!

We owned a boat growing up so I LOVE being out on the water. I’m terrible at water skiing but I love to tube!

I don’t remember the last time I was on a boat – its been a LONG time! I love the photos of Brooke and her friend, how cute!

We have an east facing window in our bedroom, so sleeping in never seems to happen, as soon as the sun comes up, the light wakes me up. Drives me crazy on the days I can sleep in!

How fun! I love being out on a boat but stick to just swimming–doing anything while being pulled behind a boat doesn’t seem like a good scenario for me. I didn’t sleep in today–just finished my 4 mile run, weights. Later today going to see “Wicked” w/ a dear friend (this will be my 5th time seeing it). Super excited. Pre-run I had eggs, fruit and now I am having coffee and just ate a left over pork chop! Not my typical post run food choice but it just sounded good….

I think I’ve got a little while before I will be sleeping in again. My 4 month old likes to wake up anytime between 4-6. Those 6 am days are my sleep in days :)

love the donut backpack! When will she be starting school?

Water sports terrify me a bit, but I can lay out/pass out on a boat like a champ. Although, I did just sign up for some scuba diving lessons to get certified… so that’s a water sport right? PS the view from that lake is unreal!

Breakfast will most likely be scrambled eggs with a sprinkle of cheese… the usual weekend thang!

What a fun day! Those pics of Brooke and the little boy are adorable! Holly cuteness! I know what you mean about trying to workout later in the day. I did that yesterday and it felt so bizarre. I wasn’t on my game as usual. At least I worked out though, right? That’s all that matters!

Every favorite childhood memory is on a boat for me. My favorite is wake boarding. I don’t know how you had the energy to run lies after boating though. It’s pretty draining. So good job for that.

Brooke and her friend are so cute! And if they did end up getting married that really would be a killer slide show for them.

Just went on a sailboat two weeks ago for the first time. I’m not a water sport person though. I can’t really swim. I did a triathalon once and basically did the doggie paddle for the entire 300 meters.
I’m sleeping in today but I’ll go for a run and do some house cleaning later.

I am having all the food for breakfast– Im starving! eggs, bananas, veggies, and all the almond butter!

Most of my water skiing pictures would look like your second picture! It’s been years since I’ve tried it.

My Sunday: 7:30 mass (so no sleeping in), taking a walk with a friend, and shopping later with my hubby. I might find time for an afternoon nap, too!

Reply

Love that backpack! I can’t run well in the afternoon either. Even 9 am is late for me lol…As for today – finished my run, have a pool party during the day and then going out for another birthday dinner tonight :)

I love boating! That water looks ridiculously clear- so jealous! And I agree about afternoon running being harder… this past week I started a full time job and had to run when I got home (at 6), and man, it was not nearly as fun as an AM sweat sesh! If only I could get myself to wake up at 5 to get ‘er done before work..

Janae, that looks like sooooo much fun. I grew up going to the lake every weekend in the summer and absolutely love water sports. They just really are the best, don’t you think? I feel so lucky that my parents were able to do that for us. I haven’t tried wake *surfing* though! You make it look easy ;-)

Have a wonderful Sunday! Or sundae :)

Reply

I love her little donut backpack!! Too cute! And you are brave to go wake boarding! I’d be way too chicken!

I’ve never tried wake boarding but love hanging out on the boat! Haha. I tried sleeping in but by 7am I was ready to roll. I’m headed out on a long bike ride this morning and fuelling with banana oat pancakes!! :)

I grew up boating every weekend and I love waterskiing and wake boarding. Even though I’m not fancy. I stay in the wake and do not stray! Never tried wake surfing though…
Sunday : church early, then hopefully a family afternoon bike ride. Just got my 3 year old a two wheeler so I’m excited to take her out for a spin on her new bike! Then a family dinner at my mom’s.

That lake water looks really pretty! Wake surfing is so much fun – there is definitely a learning curve, but it’s great once you get the hang of it. My favorite water sport is probably stand up paddleboarding or kayaking. These are popular sports in my neck of the woods. ☺

Sunday is a mystery, so far. There is a lot of smoke in the air right now due to a prescribed burn, so no running outside. Might have to head up to the mountains. We will see what the day brings!!!

Reply

I love wake boarding! I haven’t done it in years, though. I am not sleeping in today as my two foot tall screamy alarm clock woke me up at 6. :/ I got sun stroke yesterday and barfed last night. NOT COOL. I guess the heat/sun came on us too quickly and I got cocky about it. Sigh… it’s a new day.

A donut backpack is definitely necessary.

I just ate half a bag of Kind Granola. That’s technically healthy, right? I get it. probably not a good idea. But it tasted good. And it’s addictive.

Reply

Such a sweet pic of your daughter and her BFF holding hands!!!

I think the donut backpack was a great choice!!! :) and a must have!!!

Sunday… it is off to work for me! BOO!!! HOO!!! But, I did get in a short run and a bit of cross fit! Thank goodness I only have to work every 5th weekend.

Aweee. Brookes and her little boyfriend. Those are adorable pictures.!! Boating looks sooo fun. I haven’t gone in years.! Like 10 years.
And totally agree.! Afternoon running is so tough. Idk how people do it. So many excuses not to run at that time. Ha

I almost never go boating and would probably have a lot more wipe-out photos than you. I’ve tried water-skiing but not wake surfing.

Today is my rest day after a 14 miler yesterday. I slept in until 6am (I’m usually up at 4am & running by 5am). I had oatmeal for breakfast! :)

-I went boating once and got SO seasick.. Never again ;)
-Today will be a pretty chill day! Gonna get my AM workout on, and then enjoy my Sunday (and be grateful that I don’t have school tomorrow!!)
-Breakfast will be some Kodiak Power Cakes topped with a bunch of almond butter and fruit!!

I grew up going to the lake all the time and I loved water skiing!
I just finished my long trail run for the week with girlfriends.
I have a ton of fresh fruit chopped up in my fridge. I’m going to devour it!!!

Reply

I come from a ski and snowboard family, and tried both wake boarding and waterskiing. Even though snowboarding ia harder tHan skiing for me, wake boarding was MUCH easier than water skiing for me! Looks like you has a blast!!

Reply

I had oatmeal, yogurt, and apple sauce for breakfast this morning. I had some dental work done this week and I can’t chew much yet.

Reply

This is totally unrelated to this post but I have been listening to this song called “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten all weekend and I think you would really like it!

Happy Suday

When I think of surfing or wake boarding, the only thing I think of is how many broken limbs I would have from being terrible ditzy. Haha! Your Saturday looked like an AWESOME day with the girls! Pretty much perfect, IMO. Who needs boys?! ;)

Reply

oh my goodness, I need that donut backpack in my life! Brooke is the cutest!! <3 you're such a great mommy my friend!! love ya lots & can't wait to see you in Oct. :) have a great weekend

Water sports are really not my thing, but I do love boating. Last summer we did spend some time tubing while boating…which was a lot of fun. The family had a competition to see if the guys could knock the girls off. The guys lost every time!

Reply

Wake surfing looks so much fun! This summer I want to try stand up paddleboarding! It’s supposed to be a great core workout so I’m going to use it at cross training for Chicago ;)

Reply

I love being on the lake! I’m trying to convince my husband that we can afford to live on the lake, reality is getting in my way though. :)

I have tried wake boarding, but not wake surfing. I would love to give it a go sometime though! I tried paddle boarding for the first time this week and it was a blast! Oh man, I love spending my summers at the lake!

Reply

New favorite water sport is paddleboarding – so fun!
Wake surfing looks like a blast and that lake is beautiful
I made a yummy smoothie and had oatmeal for breakfast!

I love boating!! My brother in law just got a boat so I see boating in my near future! I wish I could say I slept in, I don’t even remember what sleeping in feels like anymore! Baby girl keeps me on my toes between the hours of 4 and 7. This morning I went out to breakfast at Le Peep and had chocolate chip pancakes as big as my face. YUM!

Reply

I’ve tried wake boarding and I found it so hard to pull myself up! Tubbing is more my thing!
Breakfast was oatmeal with honey and almond butter.
I find it so hard to sleep in even when i’m travelling! Today I ran on the treadmill in the morn and now i’m just relaxing in Antigua, drinking lots of coffee and eating lots of chocolate (it is amazing here!) as I have a long travel day to Copan, Honduras tomorrow.

Reply

The last time I went boating was when I was 12. Haven’t been back since. I would really love to try SUP boarding.

Sunday is extra lazy cause the hubs is gone. :(

Reply

sunday was a lot of walking with the new puppy, and a short 2.5mile walk/run for me! Recovering from IT band issues :)

I made kedgeree for the first time ever for breakfast today. Fish, eggs and rice, with a few spices and herbs. Tasted lush, and possibly a perfect breakfast for runners.. I’ll maybe make it my weekend breakfast every week from now on..

Brooke and her friend are so adorable!

I love boats and need more friends who have them! I prefer to snorkel, kayak or canoe for my water adventures.

I made double chocolate granola the other day and had that with Greek yogurt, strawberries and chia seedsor breakfast.

This morning was all about yard work: mowing and trimming bushes, trees and ivy. There was a 3 hour lunch with my in-laws and some vacation activity planning. Now it’s time to read and relax.

Reply

-My favorite water sport is being a beach bum! LOL not a big water person so waker boarding here, but you look like a pro!
-My Sunday consisted of my longest run to date…7 miles!! while on vacation I might add:) No sleeping in. I was actually a little anxious about my run and got up at 5:20 10 minutes before my alarm!
-I ate oatmeal with a dollop of peanut butter…amazing and a bananas.

Reply

I definitely don’t go boating as often as I’d like, but I love wake boarding!! I’ve never tried wake surfing, but it looks fun!

Today was filled with running, church, froyo, watching my siblings’ adult co-ed league soccer game, a friend’s birthday dinner and now the NBA Finals. Sundays are usually busy–but in a good way.

I had a bagel and banana for breakfast. And Wheat Thins, of course.

Reply

I got up at 5 am, ran 4 miles, stretched, took a shower and went back to bed until 10. Sleeping until 10 was a miracle, because my 18 mo old actually slept in!! It was the best.

Reply

Umm I want that doughnut backpack for myself! Too cute!

Reply

I’m going to make a wild guess that the one where I can’t see the fro-yo is yours? ;)

Our Sunday was great. We had a wonderful day at church and some good family time tonight. :)

Reply

I ran a gorgeous scenic perfect weather half today! And I shaved like 18 minutes off the time of my first half!! So I have been riding that high all day.

Reply

What does your Sunday look like? You sleeping in today?
I did next to nothing today! I have been recovering from the San Diego Rock n Roll Marathon and am resting up for my ultra marathon training which begins tomorrow.

What are you having for breakfast today?
I made gluten-free chocolate chip waffles. :)

I spent the morning and early afternoon at a church workshop. In the afternoon, we tried to go see Spy movie but it was showing too late. Came back home to read Gone Girl. I watched the movie but the book is still thrilling and includes a lot that the movie didn’t.

Reply

Wow, you look like a legit water-skier in that first photo! I couldn’t even have gotten that far. In fact, you’ve have had a hard time getting me out of the boat in the first place.

My Sunday was spent in France, on our last day of holiday. We did a lovely walk around a reservoir before we headed to the airport. I ran when I got home, at about 6pm. I think I prefer afternoon running; I always feel more energised!

Reply

I was just telling my mom last weekend at the lake how much I wanted to learn how to wake surf!! It looks like you picked it up pretty quickly!

Reply

Im a much bigger skiier fan than I am wakeboarding. I find being trapped in there terrifying. Looks like you had a great time though!

Reply

Where is that pineapple tank from? so cute!!! Looks like you had a blast :)

Reply

Oh! That looks like fun day! I love Brooke’s new donut bag. Super adorable!

I too was reminded this weekend of how much I don’t like afternoon runs either- even if it is on the treadmill. I can do evening runs (as long as it’s not a million degrees out) and morning runs (my morning runs are like 8 or 9 o’clock).

Reply

Oh I haven’t gone boating in a long time! I think it has been almost five years. I do enjoy going kayaking at lakes thought. I am hoping to try paddle boarding next time I head out to the lake.

Reply

i grew up around so many lakes but never really went boating… and now that I’m moving to mississippi I wish i had gone more. that lake is absolutely beautiful!

Reply

I saw a set of donut pajamas at Target the other day that you would love! I thought about getting them but just looking at them made me hungry so I steered clear!

Those hiking pics of Brooke and her boyfriend are adorable!
