My coach sent this quote to me on Sunday night and it is dead on.

I am so beyond ready to finally hit that sub 3 marathon and it is going to take a lot of hurt/time/dedication/willpower/healthy decisions/sacrifice to get there.  I’m ready.

Screen Shot 2015 06 15 at 2 54 22 PM

Day #1 of St. George Marathon Training completed.  I may look like I am asleep on the treadmill but I was actually working pretty hard at this point.

My first workout went like this:

Screen Shot 2015 06 15 at 2 49 56 PM

The first two miles @ 6:50 didn’t feel great but the third and fourth felt much better.  I did these on a 1% incline.  Brooke and her friend played in the toy room while I ran which was nice because she stayed entertained the entire time.

PS  When I do speed work I only listen to music during the actual interval.  When I am doing the recovery portions of the run I turn off my music and refocus before going for the next interval.

We went straight to the pool afterwards and I stretched out for a bit and then jumped into the pool and called it my ice bath for the day.

After vacation/traveling/eating 4,000 grams of sugar it is always nice to come back home and eat your normal foods again.  Chicken, salsa and avocado salad (ranch added post-picture) and watermelon for the win.

IMG 1922

Just kickin’ back and enjoying watermelon—>  summer is in full force over here.

What time did you go to bed last night?

-Way too late.  I need to work on this.

If you are training for something specific right now—>  what is it?

How hot is it where you are?  How’s the humidity?  Do you feel like it is effecting your running big time?

-High of 88 here today!

Those shirts are adorable and I have no doubt you will sell 1000 of them. It will be 93 here today and 100% humidity.

Reply

Love all of this! I was actually hungry maybe a mile into my run this morning which is kind of unusual so these shirts are very fitting :) I just ate a ridiculous breakfast, must be catching up or something? It’s very humid here and it’s definitely affecting my energy.

Reply

LOVE the shirts! I will definitely hshahave to get one.

And I love that you post your training run. It will give me some new ideas for my training!

We went to bed around 10:30.

Reply

That shirt is so cute! Love the saying and the design. Great job Janae!

I’m not training for anything specific yet. My next cycle starts in July so I’m just taking it easy and running a few races for fun!

It’s been super hot and humid in PA lately, but now we’re in stormy season (next 10 days all have a chance of thunderstorms) and the highs are around 85. Not fun! Thank goodness for gyms :)

Reply

Oh man, I am on my way out the door to the gym and I was JUST thinking how I need new workout clothes…HRG to the rescue! :) I’m definitely snagging one of these bad boys! Super cute!

And now the bad news: it will be 111 degrees today and 113 tomorrow. Yep.

I don’t know how you are surviving in the weather! I MISS YOU!! COME BACK!!!

Reply

I went to bed at 10pm like a good girl :)

I am training for an October half marathon, just trying to get faster and stronger generally.

I’m in London, and it’s about 70 degrees with virtually no humidity. (Of course, I am in an artificial office, and it could be snowing outside for all you’d know).

Reply

I’m not sure what the high will be today here but its only 8 a.m. and already 86 degrees!my 5k time trial to determine my goal for the Chicago Marathon will be a nice hot and toasty one tonight.

Reply

Such cute shirts! It’s pretty hot and humid here as well…. I think we should be up to high 70s today, but on my run this am if was 95% humidity, ick. I couldn’t fall asleep for the life of me so I was watching the Mindy Project and it was 2am before I knew it.

Reply

I was in bed by 10:00.
I’m training for the north fork 50.
I just finished our track workout and it’s already 89 degrees!
Love the shirts!!!!

Reply

I went to sleep apparently too late last night. My eyes are hurting to write this comment
Lol. I’m a baby, even though I went to sleep at 10ish.
And congrats on first day of marathon training. Looks like a great workout.

Reply

Ugh. I go to bed around 10 pm every night, but now at 28 weeks pregnant I don’t fall asleep for quite some time after that!

Reply

Love those shirts! Such a fun idea– and so accurate. I feel you on wanting to get back to eating normal foods after a weekend full of treats and ice cream. I’m craving salad big time. I guess it’s our bodies’ ways of balancing itself out because there’s always room for ice cream.

Reply

Last night I was asleep by 10:30, but the day before I was in bed by 9 and asleep by 9:15. I was exhausted! We’re winding down the last couple weeks of school so I’m pretty run down and tired.
I’m going to start training for my sprint triathlon in August and then when that’s done, my training for my half marathon begins.

Reply

I was in bed at 8:30 pm last night (3:45 am wake up time makes this necessary).
Not training for anything and the weather here is RAINY + 58 degrees!

Reply

I’ve got some stressful stuff going on right now so sleep isn’t working so good. I definitely went to bed too late but it was even later when I actually fell asleep. Ugh!

Reply

Its been super humid in Maryland lately, and hotter than it should be for this time of year! I do think its affecting my runs- I did a 5k on Sunday that felt harder than it should have and my easy run today felt far from easy. I have been doing better with going to bed early and last night I was in bed around 8:45! (Usually its like 9/930).

Reply

Hit the sack at 9:45 last night b/c I wasn’t feeling well. My next half-marathon training cycle starts next week, for a race in October (I like to take my time building up mileage, especially in the heat/humidity).

Reply

Loving those shirts!! It will be hot today but with run so muggy not fun! I went to bed at 10:30. It was glorious and felt great when I work up to do my workout at 6! I am building a base for a 1/2 or maybe full on October. I still deciding what I am doing! ha

Reply

those shirts are so cute!! and that picture of brooke with watermelon reminds me that I need to buy a watermelon… I haven’t had ANY yet this year! that needs to change!

Reply

-I was in bed at 8 last night! I really knew that I needed some rest after such a busy three days, but I still wanted to get up early! (I’m a morning person)
-I’m currently training for something not running related– to become a Les Mills BodyPump instructor! I passed the initial training so now I have to film a video of myself teaching the full class!! Yay!
– the high was 105 yesterday :( Luckily it’s not humid. I haven’t been running this month, but I know when I start up again next month, I’ll have to go super early to beat the heat!!

Reply

Very cute shirts!!

I’m not training for anything right now. Time to take a break then decide what I want to do next.

It’s getting into the 90s in Kansas right now. It’s a dry heat though, not much humidity where I’m at!

Reply

I know you’re out in Hays but it’s humid as H*%$ in Topeka right now.

Reply

Ha! It’s amazing how much more humid it gets in Topeka/KC area than in Hays!!

Reply

Those shirts are adorable…BUT not quite as adorable as Brooke’s giraffe swimsuit! :)

Reply

Such cute shirts! I really love the colors and typography.
I was in bed by 10 pm last night.
I’m training for my first marathon and first BQ attempt at the Portland Marathon (Oregon, not Maine).
The high today is supposed to be 74. Seattle summers are perfect.

Reply

Love the shirts, so cute! I was fast asleep by 9:30 I think. I am a total morning person.

Reply

That’s a good idea about turning the music on/off. I always try to time my intervals when the beat turns up but never seems like the intervals are on point with the music. Love the shirts!

Reply

I went to bed too late last night, too. I think it was 12:30. :/ But I had to work at my second job until after 9, and then I was watching the end of the Stanley Cup Finals and had a few things I needed to complete.

I don’t have a set goal race right now, though I am going to pick something in the fall.

It is HOT and HUMID here. I think the high is supposed to be in the 90s, but the humidity is monumental because it’s been kind of rainy lately.

Reply

I am training for a November marathon! It is a 24 week training cycle, and I have 4 weeks that I will not be training due to vacations/medical things, but they are spruced in so they will be good breaks.

I go to bed at 9:30 if I can!

99 here today and SUPER HUMID. My run this morning felt awful!

Reply

Last night, I crashed at 10 PM because I am still recovering from my 70 miler this weekend! Sleep is something I will always struggle to get enough of!

Your salad looks so so yummy.

Reply

I do the same thing with my music during intervals. I can’t believe you can run that pace on the treadmill, and on a 1% incline to boot! Nice job, woman.

Reply

Those shirts are so cute!

When I checked the weather this morning at 6:15AM the humidity was already at 88%. gross.. I am sure it is making me slower.

Reply

I was in bed by 10:30. But it back fired because I ended up waking up at 2:30am and then when I finally fell asleep again I had nightmares until 7am. Phooey!

I’m not training for anything for another month. Mid July I’ll start my NYC Marathon training!

It’s going up to the mid 80s and it’s a bazillion percent humidity here with thunder showers happening all afternoon. Phooey X2!

Reply

Love the shirts! I will be placing an order, I just need to decide on which one to get :)
I was in bed by 10:30 last night which is kind of late for me.
It has been in the 80s here with rain and high humidity!! Today is much better though, low humidity and in the 70s with sunshine. Perfect for running and walking my pup!

Have a great day!

Reply

LOVE the Hungry Runner tank, heading to order one now!

Reply

Jump into training right after your half – you are game! May I ask why you run on the treadmill now that it’s summer?

LOVE THOSE SHIRTS.

Reply

Hey Jenni! I just have to be selective about when I get a babysitter or sleep over at my mom’s house and run early:) When I run on the treadmill Brooke is able to play right by me so I can watch her. I felt bad for being gone all last weekend so the treadmill it is:)

Reply

What! I love those shirts…too funny. I’m always hungry when I’m training for a race. That quotes is awesome, entirely too true, and extremely motivating..love it.

Reply

Those tank tops are really cute! And Brooke’s giraffe swim suit is adorable!!
-I went to bed at 10:00 pm
– I am training for a 50 km trail run
– High’s in the 80* today and super humid here. :( ugh.

Reply

Marathon training will always hurt especially with the speed you’re trying to accomplish. But you’ve got such a great mental game and I know you’ll rock it.

Reply

Feel asleep reading The Husband’s Secret last night <– I already can feel myself getting sucked into this one.

My next marathon is this Fall in SEATTLE! The training will start soon!

Oh and 94% humidity on my run this morning. Brikram running. It's now a thing.

Reply

I’m in Pensacola for a long weekend, so: 1. I totally get what you’re saying about missing your normal food when you’re on vacay. I would kill for one if my famous four pound salads. And, 2. Pensacola is sooo much more humid than where I live so it has been tough. ;)

Reply

I’m pregnant with baby #2 so just wogging my way through summer this year (90s here today, UGH) but to keep my obsession with running somewhat satisfied, I’m dreaming of my comeback marathon after this guy shows up. I want to find a coach this time b/c working full time with two kiddos is going to make training a bit of a mess (I’m sure) … I can’t even begin to figure out how to find a good one?!? Any pointers?? :)

Reply

What a fun idea for the shirts, I like them!

I believe the high is 90 here today but the humidity is what is brutal. I just got back from a run and I’m still sweating.

As far as training I have a few fall goal races I’m contemplating. Right now I just want to focus on summer 5-10ks though. :-)

Reply

The shirts are super cute, Janae. Do you think they would fit nicely over a pregnant belly? Did you design them yourself?

I stayed up late too. The Bachelorette makes me do it on Monday nights.

I guess right now I tell everyone I am training for a healthy childbirth. :) I can’t wait to start training for races again once the little guy is here.

Reply

I just ordered two of those shirts! My Running Buddy’s birthday is coming up and that will be perfect for her. So now we can be twins.

Its only supposed to be 81 degrees here but the humidity has been horrible. Nothing like going out for a 3 mile run and returning looking like you ran 20 miles in a down pour.

Reply

I love the twinner idea:) The best. Oh girl, you are AMAZING for running in that humidity! WAY TO GO!!!

Reply

Those are awesome shirts! And I love Brooke’s little giraffe shirt!

Reply

Went to sleep around 11. For some reason my 5 & 3 yr olds didn’t got bed at 8 like normal so I didn’t get to bed by 930 like normal. Oh well, that is life of a mother :) The shirts are too cute. I just ordered the flowy tank in red. Can’t wait to wear it here in hot humid south FL.

Reply

Those shirts are too cute! Oh, and your salad just reminded me of an easy salad recipe that I thought you’d love-

equal amounts cucumber, tomato, and avocado (I like to chop them all into a large dice), and enough balsamic vinegar to lightly dress all of the veggies. Toss is all together with some salt and pepper (and olive oil, if you’d like), and serve on the side of your favorite grilled meat!

Reply

That sounds heavenly. I am so going to have this! THANKS EMILY!

Reply

Perfect timing on the shirts – I have one flowy tank and wanted another! I ordered the royal blue. More color options would be great.

I’ve been eating a TON of watermelon lately and grapes + cottage cheese. Both are perfect summer snacks!

Reply

We will get on the more color options:) Thanks Kate!!!! So happy you are loving grapes and cc… the best of the best!

Reply

The shirts looks great are the a tech type material?

I went to bed at 10.
My training is pretty much over our event is Friday. Ragnar Trail WV Ultra Team (50k)
Its very hot (88) and humid here. I felt it big time during the 10k race I did on Sunday.

Thanks for sharing your training run.

Reply

I went to bed early but i’m draggginggg today!! And I also want to eat ALL THE FOOD today. My fridge doesn’t stand a CHANCE…GET IN MY BELLY!!!!

Reply

Great message and great design!!!!

We’re 2 training for our marathons, time to do a tempo run thinking about Chicago!

Reply

I’m trying to decide if/what to train for next. I’m relatively out of shape, but my half last weekend went okay (considering the fitness level) so I’m trying to work up the courage to decide to run a marathon again. I got serious mental burnout after running my last one two years ago and I’m still not sure I’m over it!

Reply

You amaze me. Sub-3 goal. That is so awesome and I know you’ll get there. My speedy boyfriend regularly runs 2:xx marathons, and at this point, I can only dream of what that’s like. I usually hover in the low 4’s despite my half marathon times indicating I should be under 4. Anyhow, I’m just hoping to get my 3:35 for Boston one of these days. Love watching you work towards your goal. You’re always an inspiration, Janae!

Reply

I love your shirts! I just ordered mine and shared it with my friends!

Good luck with your training! I know you can do it! You’re a great runner and capable of great things!

Reply

Thank you so so much Tricia!!! Make sure to send me a pic when you get it:) Thanks for the good lucks… that means the world to me!

Reply

Awww you’re very sweet! You encourage your readers every day so it’s the least I can do for you!

I will make sure to take a pic when I get my shirt and send it to you. I can’t wait!

Reply

I am spending summer in Northern Italy with my family, and here it is extremely humid and hot: 81-86 degree.
I am training for a 10k in two weeks.

Reply

Those shirts are too cool! I need one in my lifeee

Reply

I don’t mind running in the heat, but the humidity gets me every time. My lungs feel like they are breathing in fog it’s so thick!!! I love running shady paths this time of year. The scenery isn’t as nice, but it’s a lot easier when sun isn’t beating on you the whole time!

Reply

Nice shirts! I might have to purchase one ;-)

It is hot and humid in Ottawa. Currently I am stuck in my Communication Tech classroom for another two hours – the A/C broke and there are no windows. Luckily for me, I am wearing athletic clothes to school…again…

Reply

Those shirts are awesome!

But that swimsuit on Brooke — soo sweet and cute!! Seeing what a great chiquita you have, and what an amazing relationship you have with her, is making me really excited to be a parent in less than 2 months :)

Reply

Also… it is 54 and cloud here in San Francisco. I’m wearing a pants, long sleeves and a vest. Enjoy summer for me please!!

Reply

I’m always in bed by 9….it’s embarrassing to admit but extra sleep = recovery

My “big” race this year is the Squamish 50….it’s a 50 miler w/ 11,000′ elevation gain + technical terrain

It’s been hitting the upper 80’s….that’s insane for this time of year where I live…we even have been in the 90’s…. it’s slowing me down quite a bit but I’ve been actually making it a point to torture myself by running during the hottest parts of the day because I have some long races this summer so I want to get semi-comfortable in high temps

Reply

The shirts are so cute!! I didn’t go to bed until 11:30 last night… wayyyy too late. And it has been in the high 90s here in NC. The high is 97 today, so outdoor running is totally out of the question. Treadmill it is!!

Reply

Love the shirts! Now if I could just decide which one I want to order…!
My alarm goes off at 4:15 am so I try to get to bed early. Last night I think it was lights off at 10:30, which is a bit later than usual.
Not training for anything just yet. I have a super sprint tri (my first!) at the end of Sept and a half on Halloween. Trying to keep my mileage base up for now, but not much along the lines of speed work.
It is miserably hot. Ran at 4:30 this morning and it was 79 with 100% humidity. It’s 88 and cloudy now. I think it slows me down but I’m getting used to it and remember I’ll be flying in the fall if I stay strong!

Reply

It’s sooooo hot and humid here and it’s affecting my running big time. I couldn’t get over 5 miles this week because it was so bad and was about 10-20 seconds slower per mile than my normal average.

Way too late of a bed time because of the Blackhawks win last night!!

Reply

That’s a great first workout, and interesting about turning off your music. I’ve started racing without music now, as I feel I’m more focused with the sounds of the race. Do you ever race with music?

Reply

so exciting to have the first day of marathon training in the books. i’ve pushed my start date back for 2 weeks because i’m nursing an ankle injury but i can’t wait to get going.

Reply

I think I fell asleep at 11? On the couch in the living room with all the windows open because it was HOT. Oregon is roasting (by Oregon standards), but I feel like the allergy season is affecting my running more than the heat. Coughing stuff up every two miles is unpleasant plus I wake up with allergy eyes and find it hard to crawl out of bed for exercise. But I’m training for the Portland Marathon, so I struggle on!

Reply

I also went to bed too late last night! Congrats on the shirts; they look awesome!

The temps here in Chicago are in the 60s but at least the sun is out after a week + of constant rain!

Reply

Love the shirts! Great design and nice variety of color and style. I ordered a red flowy one and can’t wait to wear it!

Reply

It is 97 here already! Humid too. It does affect my running, not so much in pace as in how far I can go. I had to cut my 6 miles down to 4 the other day because of the heat.

I am not training yet, my half was a week ago and I start marathon training in mid July….the race is in mid November.

Last night was a late one, Friday night for me, so we stayed up and watched the first two Jurassic Parks……tonight is the third one and Insidious 2, then tomorrow we have a Jurassic World/Insidious 3 double feature at the movie theatre! Hopefully the first showings in the morning will be empty.

And I am going to have to get one of those shirts! Are they pretty true to size? I usually wear a womens small, but if they are sized small I would go up to a medium…

Reply

I just bought a purple flowy tank and will wear it proud up here in Alaska! :)

Reply

102 and so humid in Charlotte and my runs are tough. I initially went to bed at 9:30 last night, then my husband came home and woke me and I went back to bad at 10:40. Good Luck with your training, you will break 3:00, I feel it

Reply

Oh my gosh, I love them!!!! They turned out amazing!!! Xoxoxo I need to be sporting that!

Reply

Im really thinking I need one of those shirts. My body has been all cray lately and I go all narcolepsy at around 830 and struggle bus to make it to 9 pm. Then wide awake at 5 am. Tomorrow either going to run or walk my dog since I’ll be up either way. Been mid 70s around here lately. A lot of rain and humidity though.

Reply

Also, just ordered my tank top. So excited to wear it while eating massive amounts of food so people understand

Reply

Love the Shirts!!! Just placed my order!!!! Can’t wait!!! Looks like order was up to 87 shirts sold, I should have been number 88… come on 100… I want this shirt!!! :)

Reply

I LOVE BROOKE’S SWIMSUIT! Giraffes are my favorite so I totally smiled upon seeing that photo of her.

Reply

My shirt should arrive just in time for my next half. I was in the mood for a new top to wear #done haha

Reply

Love Brooke’s swimsuit!! Where is it from?

Reply

Cute shirts! :) love the V-neck

Thanks sharing for the quote your coach sent you. I have been struggling with falling off the wagon nutrition wise which is not good with a marathon looming… going to print it out and put it on my wall. the “you will have to make healthy choices” part is especially what I need to remind myself off.

Reply

The shirts are cute, I hope you sell a lot of them!

Reply

we got home about 11 last night after my Mr. 8’s swim meet

I’d love to see these shirts with messages like “I run because it makes me feel strong” with “I can do hard things” on the back :)
