Eating and seeing all of the best things in Seattle.

Well hello!  I’ll have my race recap up tomorrow morning so today let’s talk about our post-race festivities.

It just so happened that we passed by Top Pot on our way back to our hotel after the race.

Mandatory stop.

Turns out that I have been converting all of my friends on over to the apple fritter.

I’m just trying to make a difference in the world;)

Last year the Brooks team took us to Portage Bay for Brunch after the 1/2 marathon and we all requested to go back again this year.  If you go to Seattle, please go to Portage Bay.

 This berry bar is everything.

IMG 1911

A piece of french toast and a ginormous pancake was brought to me and then I took it to the berry bar to take it to the next level.  I would definitely be a regular at this place if I lived in the area.

After some more walking around town we went to do something that I’ve really been looking forward to…

IMG 2801

I am all about the extremely touristy activities.

IMG 2785

We toured all around the city and then they drove us into the water (which was kind of a freaky feeling at first).

IMG 2792

Lauren had a PR YESTERDAY!!!!

IMG 2797

The weather here was spectacular yesterday.  After a few crazy weather races it was so nice to have the sunshine and it was also perfect for driving around a lake in a bus.

IMG 2798

When you wake up early for a race then it is important to go to dinner early.

We went to Loulay and it was delicious.

IMG 2803

Crab beignets (I don’t really remember what they were, I just remember loving them).

IMG 2804

And fancy looking chicken.  Brooks always feeds us the best of the best foods.

IMG 2805

Tina, Lora, Emily, Kristen, Jesica, Danielle, Anne, Meghann, Derek and Lauren!

Shoutout to Derek—>  Yesterday was his FIRST 1/2 marathon and he finished 5th overall with a time of 1:15.  He is a speeding bullet!

Looks like so much fun! PS those donuts are huge!

Those buses were so much fun. I remember going on those when I visited Seattle after my first year of college. I loved getting to see all the famous houses on the coast.

Reply

I love Portage Bay! I would be there all the time if I lived closer!

I think my last PR was in Seattle!

We are going to Sundance today!! I’m so excited!

must eat place in Denver – Snooze AM Eatery. Their sweet potato pancakes are to die for.

Reply

Looks like amazing food! When you’re in Chicago you obviously have to eat stuffed pizza. Lou Malnati’s is my favorite.

We are watching the season finale of Game of Thrones tonight!

My last PR was at the Chicago Marathon in 2012.

Left Coast Seafood in Venice rocks my world!

Last PR was over a year ago.

I’m painting my bedroom today. Have a great Sunday!

Oh those donuts..in South Jersey there is the “Pop Shop” which is a place with a whole bunch of grilled cheeses, delicious pancakes and breakfast foods. It was on Food Network too and certainly one of the best.

Of course a bunch of donut places…there are 3 within half a mile of my house. Then we won’t even begin on the 199 diners in NJ or the 3 mile commute to Philadelphia. You should probably come run RnR Philly…

I’ve been to Seattle a zillion times and I’ve never been to Top Pot. Now I’m curious! Personal record was in the Vancouver marathon in 2012 at 3:10. Then I had a baby, and now I’d love to get back to that time. What am I doing today? Playing nurse to my husband who has kidney stones. Hoping he passes it soon and gets this pain over with!

Portage Bay is now on my must-try list of restaurants for Seattle.
My last PR was set in St. Louis in April.
Today I’m going hiking with my husband and our pup!
Have a safe trip home!

I am taking it easy today after my 12 minute PR yesterday at the Rock ‘n Sole half marathon here in Milwaukee!!!! Still smiling and ramped up about it! :-) My body on the other hand is saying rest ;-)

Looks like you’re having a great time in Seattle! We have the ducks here too in Wisconsin Dells. A cool/crazy experience driving into the water.

I think a must-eat place is Liberty Burger or Scotty P’s. They both have AMAZING burgers. Village Burger Bar is also top-notch.

Today I will have my usual post-church froyo, then go to my siblings’ co-ed soccer game (today is for the championship!!), and then we are going to dinner with extended family since my aunt is in town from Boston.

I think my last PR was a little more than a year ago during a 10-mile race. I’m ready to up the training and start seeing some more of those PRs, though.

So glad you’re having a fun trip! Enjoy the remainder of it!!

I see Top Pot opposes our spelling of donuts ;)

Reply

I haven’t had a PR since last year. I’ve been plagued with injuries.
Come to New York City for our pizza….lombardi’s!!!! So good!

Reply

I saw that duck your when we were walking back to the hotel and it looked like a blast!! Glad you enjoyed it!

We ended up leaving pretty soon after I saw you so we could go eat (Chipolte and a Diet Coke–yummy) and shop before our drive back to Canada.

My last PR was 3 weeks ago. I shaved 2.5 minutes off my 10K PR. My next goal is a sub 150 Half!

Safe flight home!

Those fritters!!!
Sunday plans: hiking and relaxing with my husband!
Last pr: Boston!

Glad you are having a great time in Seattle! It looks beautiful there – nothing beats Seattle on a blue bird day. :) My husband and I are heading there for the 4th of July to visit family! Can’t wait.

My last PR was at CIM in December. Qualifying for Boston and breaking my marathon PR by 4 minutes felt pretty amazing !!!

Reply

Yay for PR! The best is when you PR when you’re not expecting it and your running just to have a fun race. My last PR Was in April.

Reply

We have a must eat chocolate cake that I swear has never been replicated and is the absolute best ever! We also have some great Italian spots that are owned and ran by 3 siblings in 3 different spots. Basque food is also huge in my city.
My last PR is actually when I ruptured my plantar fascia in January. I think I ran faster because it hurt, haha.
Run with the hubs this morning, church, lunch with friends, dinner with the fam (all 20 of them!), then a sip and see for our friend’s new baby girl :) Whew, fun and busy day!

Reply

My last PR was last weekend at the Acadia 1/2 marathon in Maine. It’s absolutely stunning-through Acadia national park near Bar Harbor. Scenic Atlantic Ocean views. A little hilly but I don’t mind the hills breaking up a race.

Reply

Looks like a lot of fun! Yesterday was a gorgeous day in Seattle and racing and hanging out with friends makes it even better!

Reply

I did not PR this year, but since I only race 2 or 3 races a year that is to be expected I guess! 1:15 is freakin fast. The half I just ran was over 80 degrees and the winner shaved 6 or 7 minutes off his win from last year and won in 1:16! I am a slow poke compared to that! I can’t get past 9 minute miles, but I am working on that for my full marathon in November.

We have those duck boats in Chattanooga, TN too!

There are lots of must eat places………..Aretha Frankensteins (breakfast to die for!), Nooga-Q BBQ, La Altena mexican restaurant, and Lupi’s pizza………those are the local amazing spots we go a lot!

Reply

Okay, so I am a donut hater. You’ve been to my area for the Runner’s World festival (Bethlehem, PA). Where is a good place to get an apple fritter around here? Maybe I’ll be converted to a lover.

Reply

Those apple fritters look SOO good! Have you ever had a S’mores donut? Me neither, but I saw one at Macey’s the other day. Looks pretty yummy!

Reply

I’m from Rochester, NY, so if you ever visit here, apparently you have to get a Garbage Plate with white hots from Nick Tahou’s. I’ve lived here nearly my entire life and have never had one, but apparently, they’re amazing.
My last 5k PR was last year, and marathon was 2013. I hope to break the 5k one this year… we’ll see!
Enjoy your Sunday!

Reply

That French Toast looks incredible tasty! Anything with powdered sugar and berries is a win in my book. I ran the Oakley Mini 10K in NYC yesterday, but it was SO hot, there was no way a PR was coming.

Reply

Looks like a good time. Good views, good company and yummy food.!!

Last PR was in May , can’t wait to do another race soon. Looking forward to your race recap :)

Reply

Those doughnuts look fabulous!! What a fun weekend!

Reply

FIRST half in 1:15? That’s some talent! Wow!

Reply

Wow! That looks you you are having a blast! It looks like Brooks does plan a good trip! ;)

I’m in Pensacola for a long weekend, so hanging with my sister and some sightseeing is on the agenda for today.

Safe travels back home!

That apple fritter looks amazing!
What a beautiful weekend to be in Seattle!
Hanging out with the fam today :)
Happy Sunday!

Reply

1 hour 15 minutes??? That is amazing… We can only dream of times like that… :)

Reply

Looks like Seattle is such a fun place to visit! My last PR was at the Philly marathon last November. Sunday plans included a hot 5k this morning, some pool time, and now getting ready to grill out this evening.

Reply

My most recent PR was yesterday when I ran my first marathon ever! It wasn’t super fast and I’m in a lot of pain now but being my first makes it my best!

Reply

Congrats, Elaine. Keep on running!

Reply

My marathon PR was in Phoenix AZ! I love Seattle but so often it is rainy but it looks like you had gorgeous weather! I rode on that bus too.. I remember seeing some sort of huge troll under a bridge which was really cool and also splashing into the water!

Reply

That’s not a lake…

Reply

It is, tho.

Reply

My first time in a duck boat, I didn’t know what they were. It was on a trip to Boston years ago and I thought the truck was running out of control. It was insane but SO much fun!
Congrats to your friend on his 5th overall finish in his first half. That’s a great accomplishment

Reply

If you are ever in Boise you must go to Papa Joes and have a breakfast pizza. It is so good especially after a long run!!

Reply

I blame you for my constant apple fritter craving this pregnancy. I have to hold myself back from buying one every day haha. I’ve been craving everything apple and lemon this pregnancy (Starbucks lemon pound cake has been heavenly)

Reply

I have never had an apple fritter, and to be honest, the first time I read a blog post in which you mentioned them, they had absolutely no appeal to me. However, now that you’ve mentioned your love for them SO often, I am insanely curious as to what they taste like. Plus, the ones you pictured here are drenched in glaze which is always a good idea when it comes to doughnuts.

Congratulations to Lauren on her PR! :) AND go Derek for killing it on his first 1/2! You ran alongside some impressive people yesterday! But then again, you are impressive yourself, so I should expect that you are in good company.

Reply

I think you love apple fritters as much as I love cupcakes!! LOL! But you are making me want to try one… strangely, I have never eaten one.

My PR was at a half marathon in Tallahassee, FL… 2:08:14!!! I was so excited! I am hoping for a PR in Nov… trying for sub 2 hour! we shall see!!

Your trip to seattle looks awesome! Makes me want to go!!!!

Reply

The more I see the apple fritters on your posts the more I want to try one, I think once I start training and increase my miles on Sunday I will try to find the best apple fritter in Orlando to try! I don’t really know my true PR bc when I ran the Naples Half earlier this year they lost official times for a good portion of runners – myself included :( The time they posted for me was 1:55:54 but my actual chip time was faster. I was so upset when i found out i would never get my chip time because I am not a fast runner and a sub 1:55 half for me is a BIG deal.

Anyway, looks like you had a GREAT time – thanks for sharing, as always, with all us strangers!

What a great weekend! Sounds like it was awesome and good weather.

Reply

Oh wow, that breakfast looks amazing. A berry bar is a genius idea!!

Reply

Shout out to Derek for being the token male with a group of lovely ladies…..You all look amazing!!! I am thinking that’s from running and eating apple fritters…..may be time to change up what I am doing.

;-)

Sunday plans.. run 8 miles! (and work..not as fun)

Portage bay is hands down my favorite breakfast/brunch place, so glad you went!

Reply

Wish I knew about that Portage place before! I really would have loved something like that after the marathon. Although I definitely ate well in Seattle.

Reply

oh man, there are so many must-eat places in NYC, i couldn’t even start to list them. basically whatever type of food you like, you’ll find it here, and the best of it! i went to a sweeeet rooftop brunch yesterday that is definitely rocking my list right now called Gallow Green.

Reply

WOW! I can’t believe he finished 5th over all in his first half! WOAH! Very impressive!

I live in Seattle and work within walking distance to Portage Bay and it’s definitely one of my favorite places to go! I LOVE the berry bar!!!

Reply

Duck boats are so fun! I’ve never had an apple fritter but I can’t just go to any old place and get one or else my first taste test won’t be a good one. Time to do some research in the DC area ;)

Reply

This race is DEFINITELY on my bucket list!!! You make Seattle look amazing :) I’ve never been there and now NEED to go!

Reply

apple fritters truly are the best!

Reply

Hi! I’m a new visitor from Courtney’s blog Sweet Tooth Sweet Life, and I came over just to check out the apple fritter. It looks amazing, as does all the rest of this food. Yum!
