Tangent Tuesday

Time for a post with all of the random pictures from the last few days that haven’t made it on the blog yet.

I have gone back to swinging my arms across my body as I run, talk about a waste of energy.  I don’t know why my body naturally tends to swing my arms wildly all over the place while I run but it is something I always have to work on.

PS it may look like I am thinking about something deep but I was just picturing an apple fritter at the finish line of my run.

If you are in Utah, you need to go to Baked for their Red Velvet Chocolate Chip Cookie.  My sister took me here and I will be back over and over again

IMG 8631

My sister made me the copycat recipe of our favorite Chicken Green Chile Salad.  She wins at life.

IMG 0012

You are telling me that normal people don’t carry a sweet potato in their purse just in case they get hungry and have a microwave handy to cook up their favorite food too?

IMG 0004

Her little profile just makes my world a better place.

IMG 0020

Brooke gets quite spoiled by my dad.  I walked in the kitchen the other day and he had wrapped her legs up with a blanket because he was concerned that her toes might get a little chilled during breakfast.

IMG 0031

7 miles @ 8:06 pace with zero pain this morning.  The swelling is gone and I was grinning big time on the treadmill.  My foot still doesn’t feel like it has a full range of motion yet but I am just grateful for the no pain part.

I want to make a public service announcement for runners to avoid tying their shoes too tight.  Today I did mine loose and even skipped the mid section to avoid too much tightness.

I have no idea how people were able to do little girl’s hair before iPhone games.  Without iPhone = I can’t come within 3 feet of her hair.  With iPhone = she doesn’t even notice that I am doing it.

Yes, I wear my jersey all around the house because I am so excited for Boston.

IMG 0158

My mom used to do french braids on my hair all of the time when I was a little girl so it makes me extremely happy to do them on Brooke.

I was tagged in this post today——>  couldn’t be more true.

track night tonight! haven’t done track in a WHILE, tonight will be interesting…

So hungry. All day today.

Also not drinking enough water, I don’t think. I keep forgetting I live in a desert (LA). I need to do better.

i’m wicked tired. i’m excited to go to bed tonight hahah.

Just say that you are part of the No Poo Movement and use that as an excuse to stop washing your hair altogether!

ohhhhh wow!!! hahaha I don’t know that I could handle that….. I already only wash it like 2 times a week or so and it gets sooo gross… a month of grossness? I feel like my job would say something ;) hahah

Reply

awe I wish I knew how to french braid. My sister used to french braid mine when I was little. Think I might ask her to again when my half marathon comes around.
Sweet Potatoes are amazing :)
tangents.. it’s sunny out.! I went on a walk during my lunch break. yay

Reply

I don’t think the sweet potato is that weird. One time my mom and I were sitting at a musical and she goes “do you have any parsley?” (she meant at home, not on me) and I told her no, she whips out a giant (we’re talking like 10 inches tall) container of dried parsley for me. Thanks, mom…

I did the exact same shoe tying thing with my runners when I had that issue after Boston and now I never tie my shoes tight. They’re just hanging on just baaaarely.

Reply

You know how much I love my red velvet anything. That cookie does look fabulous though.

I really like that photo of you running. I think you look great (also those shorts are cute, I like print a lot).

Random fun fact of the day: I got coffee with a friend today which was a lot of fun.

Reply

I have a golf ball on my desk in case I need to roll my foot when my plantar fascitis acts up. I carry my own coffee creamer in my purse because anywhere else it’s just gross. I started spring cleaning my closet and decided it might be easier to give away my clothes and start over. But then I couldn’t decide what to give away. I leave for Germany in 4 days. My bags have been packed for a week.

Reply

Question – My plantar fasciitis is acting up right now…ugh! What type of running shoes do you typically wear? Thanks in advance for a suggestion!

Reply

I wear Mizuno wave riders and Saucony. I’ve found the trick with plantar fasciitis is yoga r 3-4 different shoes and rotate through them throughout the week.

Reply

Very true on rotating through different types of shoes…thank you!

Reply

Sweet potatoes are just the best. I definitely carry all sorts of food with me in my purse, along with Nuun in case I ever need electrolytes.
My tangent: I’m so grateful for Google maps and Strava so I can start mapping out my running places in Seattle area now that we have an apartment. I might not be able to just run out of my house and go like I do now, but there are some pretty awesome paved trails out there worth a 15 minute drive!

Reply

I love seeing your tangents..especially when they include cute stories of your parents and Brooke! Your parents are seriously the sweetest.

I got last place in my work’s March Madness bracket..which is really embarrassing because I’m the one who organizes it every year. So, today everyone made sure to tease me about it. We’ll see if I organize next year’s!! Thank goodness we just play for fun and don’t bet money!

Also, today there was free iced coffee and iced tea at Au Bon Pain at my work! It was the best afternoon surprise I’ve had in a while! Free iced coffee = the best iced coffee.

Reply

That cookie looks amazing!! Oh happy day!

Reply

I’ve made the tied too tight mistake. My entire foot went numb during a run and I freaked out! I learned my lesson and have been extra careful since then :)

That red velvet cookie looks amazing. I bought some banana split ice cream today and can’t wait to dig into it after dinner tonight. #tangent

Reply

That cookie is GIGANTIC! And I giggled at you doing Brooke’s hair, I remember the days of getting my hair done before school, it was pretty miserable!

Reply

Um, that cookie looks awesome!! Cookie date soon? Ok! :)

I used to love having my mom french braid my hair. I can’t do it to save my life though, so I better start learning or I’m pretty sure I won’t be allowed to have daughters haha

Reply

Carrying a sweet potato in your purse is an AWESOME idea! I have no idea why I’ve never thought of that… I eat sweet potatoes on the daily!

Reply

Runners are really weird but we all get each other so its okay. Bad mood day = no running day. Best food ever = any salty carb. Intense workout when you thought you’d die but pushed through = best kind of workout.

Have a great Tuesday night! Rest that foot! I’m not running Boston but want to go just to cheer!

Reply

I randomly French braid my hair, sometimes I don’t even realize I’m doing it.

Reply

My son got a banana and sweet potato in his Easter basket. Ha!

Reply

Sports chiro said my knee is almost there. We graduated to a visit every 10 days! (Started a month ago at twice a week)!
And now I just made my first pt appointment for my torn rotator cuff and tendonitis from when I fell off a snowmobile back on February 2. The knee took precedence thanks to running and marathon training. Lol. Pathetic but true.

Reply

I haven’t run in two weeks due to patellar tendonitis. I’m scared it’ll never go away, and I’m going crazy without exercise.

Reply

I have tons of half eaten picky bars in my purse. I keep them in there and snack when necessary. No shame at all!

Reply

I can’t wait until my daughter’s hair is long enough for braids! She’s only 2 weeks old so I’ll be waiting for quite a while.

I’ve eaten almost an entire bag of starburst jelly beans today. They are so good and I wish they sold them year-round!

Reply

I also swing my arms across my chest and can’t figure out how to stop!

Reply

My boyfriend’s mom made us an Easter basket, so we have an obscene amount of candy in our house right now. It’s delicious, and dangerous :)

Reply

Lol, training! I run with my hands open so it keeps my arms straight, like sprinters. I did boot camp at 5:30 am then ran 2 miles. I’m basically done for today and will just go for a walk tonight with our Chihuahua Sophie! Now I’m hungry after seeing your pics. Ok I’m always hungry;)

Reply

ok, lets be honest, your dad spoils all the ladies in his life. What a peach he is, you sure won the Dad lottery.
French braids are the BEST!
I have also been known to carry random food in my purse, LOL you just never know.

Reply

I definitely carry random food items in my purse, although never one that needs to be cooked :)

Reply

I too am addicted to sweet potatoes !!!!! AND, I so never thought about carrying one in my purse to microwave when ever I need to!!! So clever!!!! I might need to start doing this….hmmmmmm

What kind of glasses are you sporting? I love the white sunglasses!!! Very sporty!!! Look comfortable!!!! Do tell!!!

Reply

While not sweet potatoes, I don’t leave the house without a snack or two (really, sometimes even three) in my purse. You’re not alone :)

Reply

I am so glad your foot feels better and you were able to run today!!

I have never been to Baked…or even heard of it. No worries. I have already yelped it. Got directions. And am planning my visit.

Reply

HahA…can’t believe you carry a sweet potatoe with you in your purse. Well actually I can :) I always carry some form of snacks cause I get hangry pretty quickly and it can turn scary.

Reply

I always have a diaper and extra pants and underwear in my purse for when I’m out with my boys. I always forget to take them out when we get home though I have end up with a few diapers and extra clothes when I end up cleaning it out.

Reply

I LOVE your sunglasses. I want to get a pair for those summer runs when the sun is right in my face! Plus they make you look pretty BA ;)

Have you ever seen this recipe? I thought you might like it! http://www.favfamilyrecipes.com/jared-and-i-love-cafe-rio.html

Fun fact: my brother and sister-in-law are staying the night because they can’t make it back to Tahoe (where they live) due to snow! (We REALLY need it).

My mom didn’t know how to french braid, so I taught myself when I was about 11. (I wrote a blog about being a dorky beauty school drop-out wannabe: http://www.myadventuresinliving.com/blog/beauty-school-dropout-wannabe)

Trying to talk my girls into doing the Mudderella run with me in June. (Neither are what you’d call runners).

Reply

Yay for no foot pain! I love the running outfit in the first pic, where is the top from?

Reply

I always carry snacks on me (trust me, you don’t want to be around when I get hungry), but a sweet potato may be weird… ;)

And, I think I’ve been known to tie my shoes too tight. I’m definitely going to need to be more aware of that for now on.

Reply

Snacks are a must-have in my purse, too! I usually have cuties and apples :)

Tangent: I just got a new (to me) treadmill! Woohoo!

Reply

Awesome running photo of you! And red velvet chocolate chip cookie… yum. Brooke’s braids are adorable :)

Reply

I need to get my love for running back again! It’s been about a month and I want to go, just can’t get my butt out the door!

Reply

I actually read about skip lacing on your blog a long time ago and have been tying my shoes like that ever since!!

I think you took a picture of someone that you were running with who had their shoes tied like that. The bone on the top of my foot sticks out really bad so it always gets painful on long runs!! I remember seeing you post about it and thinking oh my gosh why didn’t I think of that???

Reply

Her braids are awesome!

Reply

So happy you don’t have foot pain anymore. That happens to me too, as I actually have wide feet which hurt when I tie my shoes too tight.

Tangent. I HATE litter. Why do people have to litter?

Reply

Sometimes the middle of my foot hurts after running, and I bet it’s from tying my laces too tight. I am going to have to watch that.

I carry snacks with me…because you never know when you might need a Quest cookies and cream bar! They are sooooooooo good!

Meb just came out with a Running for Mortals book…I just bought it tonight! One of my favorite types of books to read about is running & food books related to exercise. I love running books! The Long Run and Mile Markers are two great running related books! I love them both!

Reply

TOTALLY guilty of the sweet potato thing… Especially on weeknights when I go over to my boyfriends house. College boy = frozen pizza for days.

My dad and I went to Outback tonight! The waiter gave us a dessert on the house (giant peanut butter cookie anyone??) so it was easily the best night of my week!

Also, I totally watched Desert Runners last night and it was so cool/crazy/insane so I think doing one of those races is in my future someday! Though I don’t think I’d survive four…

Reply

Baked is my favorite, and I hadn’t tried the red velvet cookie yet. So of course I had to go try it immediately. So good!

Reply

I’ve done the creative lacing thing with my old running shoes! I definitely recommend the Adidas Energy Boosts if you ever feel the need to switch things up – the best running shoes ever, especially when it comes to top of foot pain.

Reply

My mom doesn’t know what she would’ve done without de-tangle stuff. My hair was always a rat’s nest when I woke up but a couple sprays of that, she could brush out my hair with no problem. Now I don’t know what she used to distract me with… my attention is thissmall.

Reply

haha, sweet potato in the purse is great! I’ve never tried lacing my shoes like that but maaaaaybe I’ll try one day! A random tangent for me is that we’re out of milk so I’m eating cereal dry for breakfast… but it’s actually surprisingly good!

Reply

You look so focused on the photo!!! You are going to ROCK Boston! Happy running after 3 days of cross training as I “kicked” my little toe on Friday night … it’s just totally normal to kick your home furniture just 4 weeks out of your major marathon :D I think I need to bubble wrap everything :D :D :D

Reply

How do you microwave your sweet potato?! I’ve tried so many different ways and I always manage to screw it up haha.

Struggling with developing stress fractures 7 weeks out from my marathon where I hope to qualify for Boston next year, your blog is so positive and your posts on pool running and other cross-training keep me hopeful that I can still accomplish that goal!

You’re going to crush Boston! :)

Reply

Keeping my shoelaces looser has helped my feet not fall asleep while running. My first 5k, that happened, and I thought it was unusual, but my runner friend, Kaity, said it happens to her all the time. Will looser laces continue to help with that?

Reply

I LOVE those shorts! I’m looking for a new pair for my marathon in a couple weeks but nothing has jumped out at me until now. Where can I get them?!!!!

Reply

I have a crazy busy week of travel, but I was able to squeeze in two of my favorites yesterday- a hilly, windy nine miler with my friend, Lydia, and a ballroom dance lesson with my sweet husband.
I’m off to pack and get ready for some adventures- I’ll be on the east side of Wisconsin, then Chicago with my family, then back to central Wisconsin to host my best friend’s bridal shower

Reply

You are too cute! The arm swinging thing…here is a cue that might help it. Tuck your thumbs into your shirt sleeve (short sleeve shirt – or if you have on a tank, just pretend). It helps keep those arms in line.

Your gonna kill it!

Reply

The picture of Brooke with her little legs covered is probably the cutest thing I have ever seen! My dad is the same way with my little girl :)

Reply

And I was wondering how she would sit still till you did her hair. My girl sees me with a comb and starts screaming…

Reply

Aw, I love the French braids!
