I love carbs so I never stop carb loading…oops! And this post made me miss my sis who is 700 miles away…………..

Reply

I love sushi but stick to tuna and salmon most.
No miles today. But 5 tomorrow and 10 Friday.

Reply

I have the jacket from last year and it’s such a bright orange I find myself staring at it every day. Getting exciting now! I try to increase carbs gradually the week of the race, with the biggest emphasis on the last 2 days.

Reply

That jacket is awesome.!! Yes you need. And awee. Gorgeous pics. They look professional.
Gonna do an 8 miler here really soon.
I only carb load like once.. I don’t like to feel too full before a race.. and carbs definitely do that to me. :)

Reply

I don’t really do carb loading anymore. I try to eat less fiber and I eat more ‘white’ than I normally do (white pasta, potatoes, white rice, etc), but I don’t really change any of my normal eating habits.

I have 3 Boston jackets. I don’t think I got one the fourth year I went. First was in 2009. I love it. I dont like to wear it though because I’m always afraid I’ll do something to it!

I love grills like that! It is so fun and the food is amazing!

Reply

Love that dress! I just put in 6 easy miles :)

No Boston jacket for me…yet! If ever get to run it I will buy way too much Boston stuff :)

Reply

Oops, I forgot add that I pretty much carb load all day, every day!

Reply

I’m only a fan of California roll or avocado roll. I don’t venture out to often when it comes to sushi, and I never do raw fish. Whatever I eat, I HAVE to have Wasabi with it. It makes it delish.

I have a 6 miler planned today, but my legs are tired from my tempo run yesterday, so they will be nice, easy miles.

Reply

I’ll be running my first Boston this year, but I bought the jacket when they had a sale earlier this year. I’m all about the savings :) I didn’t care for the color in the picture, but I think it’s a lot better in person. I like it a lot!!

Reply

I like that dress a lot. I feel like I have bought several dresses Lately. All of your food always looks great Janae!

I hope your foot is feeling better and enjoy your taper. I have not gotten nutrition exactly right just yet. I carb loaded a week out before and felt like that has been my best bet so far!

Reply

About 3 days out I start pumping the carbs and holding off on veggie and dairy.

SO EXCITED FOR BOSTON. I’m not running it but I’m seriously contemplating getting in the car and driving to it just to be there!

Reply

I feel like I constantly carb load, regardless of if I’m racing or not. I just really love carbs…

I’m not a sushi person (I really don’t like fish at all), but I like it just with rice and avocado. It’s quite tasty!

I didn’t too that many miles today, but I did get in another solid tempo run, which was encouraging! Hope you have a great Wednesday!!

Reply

I confess I already bought the Boston jacket! A friend sent me a discount code plus I was worried they would sell out of my size. I’ve never bought one before and so glad I did this year. It’s super nice!! Can’t wait to see you!

Reply

I think my diet is mostly carbs, so I’m not sure if it counts as carb loading at this point. :) I am doing an indoor sprint tri today with a friend in prep for our actual sprint tri in a week and a half…so only a 5k run, but also 12 miles bike and a 500 m swim. Woo! :)

Reply

I increase carbs every time I start to pick up mileage! Why not carb-load 100 days before the big day?

love love love sushi! I would try any kind..last time I went to a sushi bar I even tried a squid…might not try that again but it was interesting..

6 tempo miles today! Going to try a workout I saw from Lauren Fleshman…3x 3/3/3 (3 minutes below tempo, 3 min at tempo, 3 above tempo with 2 minute recovery jog in between sets)

Reply

Awesome jacket!! I carb load for about a week for half marathons.

3 miles with run club tonight!

I love the Jean jackets!!

Reply

Three miles and that dress is everything!

Reply

I eat more carbs the week of a race. I get my favorite cereals to snack on…possibly one of my favorite parts of racing.
No miles today, and only a few over the next few days because my half is on Sunday!
I’m totally getting a Boston jacket when I run it!

Reply

I’m sorry you have gas stations that sell froyo?!

My world seems so empty now.

Reply

Started off my day with a 2 mile run! I love being outside as the sun is rising.

YES to being a sushi fan. All types, raw fish, cooked fish, cream cheese why not. And I love to dip them in a combo of eel sauce + spicy mayo. Healthy. :)

Fro-yo in a gas station is genius, I was just thinking how their needs to be fro-yo places at every corner like Starbucks or Mcdonalds…. I’ll start investigating the stations here. Give them my 2 cents.

Reply

I have to admit… I bought the jacket as soon as they unveiled it. It has been staring at me on a hangar ever since. I can wear it in 12 days!!! :)

Reply

I love that dress so much! Yes, I really enjoy sushi and am adventurous w/ trying most things. I feel like I should at least try something before I decide if I like it or not. Today was cross training so just finished 14.4 miles on my bike (I do my speed work on my bike instead of running so I am pretty spent). Happy Wednesday.

Reply

Oh man fried rice is one of my favorite foods! SO good!

Reply

I am so jealous!! I will be at Boston becuase my husband is racing, but I can’t run it until 2016. I’m already ready to go!!!

Reply

My husband bought the Adidas jackets for my sister and me several weeks ago. I am so excited that Boston is just 12 days away and I will be there in 8 days!

Reply

LOVE that jacket, it reminds me of home!

Fun fact: I was part of the Boston Marathon planning committee back in the day for a high school Government class project. There is SO much thought that goes into that marathon!!!

Reply

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a gas station that sells froyo. Although I never go inside anymore so maybe they do and I don’t know it!

Reply

I have the 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 Boston jackets, but this year’s is WAY cooler. Buy it NOW :)

Reply

My favorite meals are carb loaded goodness: diner pancakes, sushi, oatmeal!

I loveeeee me some sushi. Raw or cooked and always with so much wasabi I shed some tears!

Reply

I think I am always carbo-loading…. just kidding. Kind of. My mom bought me four Sweet Ali’s (gluten-free, available at WHF and Mariano’s) cupcakes for Easter … they were each 550 calories, and I finished them in 2 days…. it was bad.

I absolutely love sushi. I will even take some WHF sushi in a pinch. I love all sushi–especially spicy tuna and basically anything spicy.

Typical–5 to 7 miles.

Reply

If I ever make it to Boston I’ll probably buy all the merchandise possibly! It will most likely be the one and only time I’d make it.
I like sushi but I’m not very adventurous. My favourite is smoked salmon, cream cheese roll. Yum!
I’ve got 4, maybe 4.5 miles, on the treadmill today. Depends on how quickly I can get out of work to get to the gym.

Reply

That dress is super cute!! I can’t believe how big brooke looks compared to your sisters’s baby :) and I wish there was a gas station with froyo near me!!! That’s so cool!

Reply

Carb-loading is old-school Janae! Just keep doing what you’re doing and make sure you’re getting enough nutrition and calories.

Never did Boston. Never really thought about it but all the hype on blogs makes me think more of it now :)

Love sushi, but no good spots where I live to get it.

Hopefully 5 miles with some hills at the end of a long work day today.

Reply

I really like that dress!

I usually carb load for two or three days. I’ve read a few articles on how carb loading is less effective for women than men, but I still like the excuse to eat nothing but bagels and pasta :)

This year’s Boston jacket is nice! I have the 2009 one, and it’s not the best running fabric, so I rarely wear it.

Reply

LOVE sushi! Definitely one of my top faves when dining out! And the local hibachi places are great here too, even for sushi which is a plus.

Reply

I love Brooke’s pink jean jacket!! You two are just so cute.
I’m far from being a pro when it comes to marathons and carb loading….but my diet is naturally very carb-heavy so I don’t do too much to change it leading up to a race! I eat oatmeal, bread, crackers, and sweet potatoes nearly every day so I’m always ready to run a marathon – haha!!
I don’t have a Boston jacket but my dream is to have one someday…hopefully sooner rather than later. I’m actually thinking of coming to run Big Cottonwood in September with the hopes of BQ-ing.
We’ll seeeeeeeeee!!

Have a great day!

Reply

I love sushi. Sakura definitely has good food all around. I am in Chicago now so there aren’t as many chain restaurants like that, but once I go back to visit MD and VA in a couple weeks I may have to add that to my list.

Reply

I start adding extra carbs the week leading up to the race.
This year is my first Boston jacket!!!!
As a vegetarian, my rolls usually just have avocado.
Today’s miles: 10!

Reply

Brooke with her cousin is the absolute sweetest!

I am SUCH a sucker for hibachi! Gonna have to get some soon, because my mouth is watering just looking at your pics!

Reply

I am getting a Boston jacket this year! And as much other stuff as is humanly possible!

Reply

Girl, you are ROCKING that dress. You are gorgeous.

I haven’t had pb fro yo for like a week. Mine HASN’T kept it in stock. The jerks.

Yes. You need that jacket. Boston is so close. Aaaahhhh.

Reply

I carb load for life:) But I do get a lot of healthy fats in!

Reply

I have the Boston jacket from 2010 but it’s that traditional blue and yellow. It’s going to be interesting to see people wearing new colours this year!

Reply

Do I ever stop carboloading? Not really. Peanut Butter froyo is the bomb.com!

You EARNED that jacket! So excited for you to run Boston.

Today’s mileage was a speedy seven!

Reply

I will start carb loading next week…. But one of my favorite pre race meals is sushi. I usually get two orders of edamame and two spicy tuna rolls…so u will be in search of a great Japanese restaurant in Boston!

I also WANT/NEED the jacket. I feel like u have to get it if u run Boston lol. I’m just trying to justify paying 110 bucks for it:/ any justification is welcome !

Reply

I love those restaurants that cook food in front of you, but I’m not a sushi fan. I need my meat cooked. I love seafood, but it has to be cooked through.

Reply

A carbo load for 4-5 days before a marathon.

I have one from 2013 and 2014. I love this year’s, I’m super jealous I’m not running it.

Sushi is hands down my favorite food. My boyfriend and I made it our mission to find the best sushi in Boston and we go to a new place once every couple of weeks. We even keep a sushi journal! I’ll also try pretty much anything when it comes to sushi.

Todays’ 8 miles!

Reply

-I typically carb load the the three days leading up to a race! These are honestly the best three days ever. Carbs = love
-No Boston jacket yet, but maybe some day :)
– Sushi is bae. I love trying all sorts of new rolls!
– No running for me today! Just some HIIT, CxWorx, and possibly BodyAttack!

Reply

I always do pizza before a race, it’s my favorite! Planning on 8 miles outside before it starts snowing today. Love that picture of you and Brooke in your Jean jackets, so cute!

Reply

Love that dress! You look so pretty!!
I carb load always every day.
I don’t eat fish but I LOVE vegetable rolls.
Hoping to do 6 miles today!

Reply

i love that black dress! where is it from??

Reply

That dress is classy and timeless, you will be able to wear it forever! Love it! No miles today, I’ll be doing strength training!

Reply

I don’t carb load until the week of the race, as it can sometimes lead to weight gain for me with the reduced training. I always try to eat a balance of pasta and protein in the days before a race.

No Boston jacket for me, YET! I qualified this past December, so hopefully next year will be THE year!

Six rainy miles for me today. Woot!

Reply

I carb-load all the time. That’s okay, right? ;)

I love sushi. Not so much sashimi. I like to experiment every so often, but I can get pretty comfortable too. Last time, I let my dad pick the sushi roll we ordered and it was something I never would have picked, but it ended up being super yummy!

And, I’m looking at doing 3-5 miles tonight.

Reply

You have to get the Boston jacket! Mine is from 2013 and it is one of my most prized possessions!

Reply

Vegetarian sushi is my favorite.

Reply

I will be getting one this year!! I don’t always get one, but since it is my very first BQ on my own–> I have to!!!!! :)

I also love the restaurants where they cook in front of you, yum!!!!!

Reply

I have a Boston jacket for this year (my first!)! I will run 0 miles today – went to spin class this morning – as I am trying to take it easy on my knees before April 20! Will start to carb load a few days before the race (even though the oatmeal and half a bagel I have already eaten this morning are evidence of early carb loading ;)).

Reply

That jacket is awesome! Maybe one day I’ll be able to get one. :) I am a huge fan of sushi. My hubby and I love to go on sushi dates. They are our favorite.

Reply

A Boston jacket (and sweaters!) are on my must get list…just need to qualify first!

Reply

ohhhhh that marathon jacket is awesome!! I have mine from 2013, I love it. But those colors…..

I don’t really like sushi. I don’t eat seafood, so most sushi is a no go for me haha.

today I’m putting in 8 miles! running some hills in Griffith Park. Should be… fun…. ;)

Reply

I did 2.5 miles of intervals at the gym freakishly early this morning. It felt good and I could have kept going except for a little thing called “getting to work” got in the way. It was nice to get some speed in, but now I gotta figure out how to dedicate some time to miles during a busy weekend away from home.

I love sushi, but stick to tuna and salmon mostly. Nothing with tentacles. Or eel.

Reply

Cute dress!!!!!!!

Reply

My life is pretty much carb-loading…

Reply

I love sushi! I used to play it safe with California rolls but have since branched out a bit.

Reply

You look absolutely stunning in that dress! No miles today…I wanted to, but I had four consecutive days of running + 10 tomorrow = I am trying to be smart. :)

I think I will die of happiness when I qualify for Boston and earn my own jacket.

Reply

I’ve been carb-loading for 27 years.

I’m super adventurous with sushi, minus Eel (creeps me out a little bit)
I hoping to get in at least 4 miles today!

LOVE that dress!!!!

Reply

I have one from 2013 and 2014. I should have one from 2012, but didn’t end up going since I was pregnant and glad that I didn’t since that was the 90 degree day! I should have one this year too, but decided not to register. Going back next year for sure!! :-)

You need to order that jacket STAT!!!!

Reply

I am so bad about carb loading. I try to not use it as an excuse to eat like a fatty, the furthest distance I have done is a half marathon so if the race is Sunday I will start on Thursday. I love sushi! I am not too bold and usually order a spicy tuna roll with a side of eel sauce.

Reply

Love sushi! I’m a vegetarian, so I can only get so adventurous, but I still enjoy it. A lot.

On an unrelated note, did you hear that another “Serial”-related podcast is coming out on Monday? I’m very excited about it, even though it won’t be produced by the “Serial” people. http://www.people.com/article/serial-adnan-syed-new-podcast-undisclosed

Have a great day!

Reply

I think I had a bad sushi experience and stopped craving it :(

Reply

Love your dress! You look gorgeous!! :) And Brooke seriously just gets cuter and cuter :)

Reply

I don’t love raw fish but some was not bad…it just doesn’t like me. I never seem to hold it down. I learned it’s best not to eat it. But oh man do I love cheeseburgers. Could I BE more American? Probably not. sigh. So wrong.

No Boston here as I’m way not fast enough but I’m going to be the critical eye and say wow…bright colors. I would so not buy the jacket even if I did run Boston? Sorry Boston, I still love you.

Reply

You HAVE to buy the jacket. It is a rite of passage. My husband hated the bright orange last year, but it turns out to be the most useful jacket ever. 1. bragging rights and 2. awesome for last night running/visibility!

I like the purple better than the orange, but I don’t get why they don’t just stick with blue/yellow?

I love sushi! I’ll try anything and everything, but prefer someone to be with me and have them try it first too ;)

No running for me today, heading to Paris tonight for the marathon on Sunday! eeP!

Reply

Carbo-load–I eat only slightly more carbs about two weeks before a race. But that “slightly” more is slightly more than what I ate during my most intensive weeks of training. So my intake doesn’t change much, just what I use :)

Boston Jacket– Nope don’t have one YET! Was planning to qualify last fall, but it was a post-injury comeback marathon so my goal that time was to enjoy the run. Should be in the bag for my next race though considering the increased intensity of my training, my PR for marathoning, etc. :D

Sushi–nope not a fan enough to justify eating and spending the money on it.

Today’s mileage=6k tempo run plus warm up and cool down for a total of about 6.5 miles!

By the way–peanut butter fro yo and fried rice–two things I can’t live without!!

Reply

Sushi def makes top 3 favorite foods.

I have the jacket from 2011. It’s most memorable 1. b/c it’s my 1st and only Boston so far, 2. my husband proposed to me at the finish line.

Reply

I have 1998 and 2010 Boston Marathon jackets from the first year I qualified and the last year I qualified (before the injury that took me away from running marathons).

I don’t usually run on Wednesdays, but I cross-trained today.

Reply

I feel like my entire life is carb-loading! Kidding (a little)… usually I eat slightly more carbs the week of the race, but I don’t go too crazy.

I have the bright orange jacket from Boston 2012. I told myself I was only going to run Boston once – that’s a long way to travel! – but whenever I see the cool clothes for each year I’m tempted to run there again :)

Reply

Thank you for reminding me about the jean jacket sitting in the back of my closet for 12 years. Really glad those came back in style!

Good luck at Boston! So jealous you are going back to my beloved coast!

Great dress!

I have two Boston Jackets from both years I ran (2013 and 2014) and of course I will buy this year’s too…what awesome colours! Here in Nova Scotia many runners wear “The Jacket” to running events and when I was in Boston I noticed a few runners at the expo had sewn the Unicorn logo from each previous jacket to the current one they were sporting. Sounds like a great but I can’t sew…lol.

Reply

12 days?! Oh my goodness, that went fast (for those of us not training for it.) My brother is going for the millionth time, he usually gets some clothing.

Sushi-veggie.

Ran 10 freezing miles this morning. Brr! How did you wear shorts in 36F weather? It was 31F this morning and I was super cold with tights on!

Froyo. yum. My daughter and I *almost* got ice cream today after a day of shopping, instead I bought her a smarties pop up.

Reply

The Boston jacket is so awesome!!! Yay – it’s almost time!!

I carbo load the week of the race!

Love, love sushi – I will try any type of sushi at least once :)

Reply

Have you tried Boden for dresses? They’re flattering on all body types, great colors & prints, comfy material. A little pricey, but worth it!

Reply

I laughed at your expression with the jean jackets. So thug. Denim4Lyfe.

Sakura sounds great! That was what my hubs called me when we were dating, also. :)

How long do you carb load leading up to a race?
**All the time. I mean, just in case. I could race tomorrow, I mean, it’s not planned but… be prepared and all.

Do you like sushi? Are you adventurous with what types you try?
**Some yes, some no. I like raw tuna (not rolls) in sesame sauce. I’ll try just about anything.

How many miles are you putting in today?
**5k before sunrise. My legs are super sore from weights workouts this week, but it was a beautiful morning and I’m glad I went.

Reply

I have a Boston Jacket from 2008! I qualified to go this year, but sadly am not going…MAJOR regrets :-( I’ve qualified a few times and have only gone once…I need to fix that! It’s been fun following your training…you’ll do great!
