Some tempo miles during a long run and we really like Saturday nights.

36 degrees outside at 6 a.m. totally calls for a tank top and shorts.  At least I had gloves, those saved me.  We had some tempo miles to get done Saturday morning and I overheat anytime I try to run fast so this outfit selection was necessary.

4 mile warm-up, 8 miles @ 6:50 average pace and 5 mile cool-down.  Not sure the overall pace of the entire run because my watch struggled for the first 4 miles but I would guess around a 7:40 average for the 17 miles.  The tempo miles started feeling better after the first 2.  It just takes time to switch gears for me and that is right about when it kicked in.

My running motivation has been lower than normal this last week but i have been reminding myself that that is normal.  That is what makes runners hardcore—>  even when we don’t feel super fresh/motivated/stoked to do our workouts, we still do them and we stick with running and our training.

We did a bunch of errands all day and I got in some reading during Brooke’s nap which made me happy.

For dinner we went to a Utah favorite with the girls.

Brooke loves Saturday nights.

PS I go through Brooke’s baby pictures a lot and it is always crazy to me how much she has grown up lately.

I had the chicken and artichoke dish and Brooke opted for the grilled cheese special.

Because gas station froyo is a must on the day of a long run.

PS I celebrated Pi Day by buying a pie for us to eat today!  We are celebrating my mom’s bday over at my house tonight.

Hope your Sunday is fabulous!

I was just telling my husband last night that I struggled with running motivation this week. I still got my miles in, but it was tough he just reminded me that this is what peak marathon weeks feel like.
We’re supposed to have sunny warm weather this week, so that should help a ton!!

Training is hard work! There are definitely good days and bad ones. In the end, it all pays off! I can’t believe you wore a tank and shorts with it that cold. I wore that outfit yesterday but it was 90 in Phoenix. Too soon for that heat!

Happy birthday to your mom! I had a week where I struggled with motivation a couple weeks ago. Just didn’t want to do anything. The first couple miles are always the toughest for me. Legs aren’t in it yet and I just want to be done. Have a great Sunday!

The picture of baby brooke just broke my little heart! She’s so sweet. Just wanted to say you’re an absolute rockstar – you’ve beasted this marathon training. Have a great sunday from cold old England :)

Gas station FroYo??? Haven’t seen that in MN yet…

My daughter (15.5) and I were just talking about her being a baby…she was asking me what her first word was, what her favorite food use to be, etc…I told her that’s why they have “baby books” to write those things down b/c I don’t remember….they do grow up so fast yet ~ we don’t ?????

Funny how that works?? ;-)

So true about grinding through the workouts even when we don’t want to. We have to be mentally tough, otherwise those races are going to our tails!

I love how much time you and Brooke spend together. Y’all are adorable, and you can see how much genuine joy you two bring one another.

So glad you got that froyo yesterday. I don’t know about you, but I always get a little bit sad when I get to that very last bite. But I’m super excited for my post-church froyo today. It’s kind of a special weekly tradition for me.

Happy Sunday!! :)

I really wish we had more friends, I have found as a transplant it is really hard to find friends.

It was about that temp by me this morning and I definitely overdressed, luckily I had no tempo miles planned because I totally overheat too. I have a 10k next Sat and if it’s above 30 I’ll likely be in a tank and shorts!

The concept of gas stations selling frozen yogurt is completely foreign to me yet I think it’s absolutely genius! I get excited when a gas station here in NY has a dunkin donuts as the mini mart which seems to be popping up more and more.

I was thinking the same thing about the froyo. But I’m also in NY so I guess it’s regional.

Happy bday to your mommy!

Funny… one of my favorite restaurants here is called the Green Lemon, ha!

Brooke has changed so much! I’ve enjoyed so much following your journey :) Happy Sunday!

Gas station Fro Yo is the best. And here in Atlanta they also serve boiled peanuts, which is a must have for any true Southerner.

I continue to be amazed at how fast you run. While you are feeling unmotivated and in a slump, just know you are setting an amazing example and encouraging the rest of us to move our feet! Thanks.

Hats my favorite dish at blue lemon!! having a hard time getting ing/staying motivated to train…sick kids, then sick myself and the hubs is out of the country… Can’t seem to get myself to do it! Ugh, maybe once I feel well again. It was an amazing day yesterday! Happy birthday to your mom!

I’m dealing with a sick four year old today. I’m hoping he’s better quick because it’s March Break and he’s going to miss out on all the fun at daycare! Still no running for me…I hyper-hyperextended my knee so it’s rest time.

Movie theatres with heated seats and gas station froyo. I need to move to Utah! You have all the good stuff!

Don’t kids grow up so fast?! It’s amazing!
We celebrated Pi Day and St. Patrick’s Day with a green mint chocolate pie. So good!

Happy birthday to your mom!! And awesome job on your run!! Way to get it done even when you don’t feel like it. Doesn’t it make you feel even more hard core? I need to know what flavors are at the mav? I might want to break the sabbath and go get me some. Lol. I tried calling the one by my house all weekend to see what flavors they had (I wasn’t going to load up all my kids to get there and find out they only had vanilla). But their number is disconnected. They must have changed it after some weird lady repeatedly called to get their flavors of the day.

The warmer weather has been enough to motivate me honestly. Nice job Janae. I celebrated Pi day by eating a single slice of pie and making math puns all day long. That was enough for me!

i just started reading your blog about a month ago and I love it! This is also my very first comment to you!! I struggled this past week too and I blamed it on the time change. My body was unusually tired! You run so fast, good job!

I did a similar long run on Friday, and I’m still feeling creaky in the knees two days later. You’re nailing this training. You’re my hero.

I’ve had a difficult week, motivation-wise as well. Thanks for the posts you’ve shared about that lately though, they helped me remember that that is normal and that going out for a run anyways will help in the long run (pun intended!)!

Reply

Happy birthday to your mom! Great job on your long run also!
We made shepherd’s pie with corned beef and then apple pie to celebrate Pi Day! One of my favorite holidays because I love to make pie.

Getting through those runs that I’m not really feeling is sometimes the toughest part of training for me. I consider those runs my mental toughness training days.

I’ve got a long run today, perhaps I will sneak a few tempo miles in there – my next half is just two weeks away!

Reply

Sounds like a great weekend. 36 degrees is fabulous weather to run in! I always say my happy temp is 30-40 degrees. I overheat usually within 5 minutes of any run.

Reply

Hahahahah 36 in shorts and tshirt?! I’m more of a 50s-60s temp runner.

Brooke has gotten so big!! And Blue Lemon looks yummy!

Awesome pace for your run! I love Maverick froyo, but I think I’m going to try making my own at home this week. Have a great Sunday.

Great run girl.!!!! And Brooke has grown so much.! Awe. They grow too fast, I look at my daughters pics when she was little also.. we’re such moms. Haha.
:)

It is so so great that you take Brooke out to eat so much. I can’t imagine it’s easy especially at the age she’s in! Is she a pretty well behaved little kiddo? Have you ever had a night out where she was just not smiling ear to ear?? :)

That fro yo looks so good! It’s crazy that you can get it at the gas station. I also think you’re crazy awesome for running in a tank and shorts when it’s that cold! I can’t wait until it’s warm enough to run in shorts again.
Have a great Sunday!

I think you just won the title of Froyo Master! That looks intense! :)

pi day is the best- an excuse to eat pie!!

Awesome run kiddo! I am also struggling with motivation lately, not sure why.

That pie is beautiful! Happy birthday to your mom!

Nice splits on your run! We had 32 here, and I opted for my fleece tights and two long sleeves :) You can guess I wasn’t running quite as fast as you were.

Reply

Awesome run!! My motivation is up and down. 30 weeks pregnant has made running is little tougher so some morning are hard to get going but once I get into a rhythm I feel great. And, once my run is complete I feel accomplished

Reply

Awesome run! Girl, I swear I see goosebumps on your arm in the Garmin photo! Brr!

Hope you had a fun Sunday!

Hahahahaha! Glad it’s not just me lacking motivation during boston marathon training! I was on a great tear until two weeks ago when I got the flu. 10 days later, I was back at it, but with a little less…um..oomph?
I have to remind myself that this is ALWAYS the time during training where I seem to say ‘why exactly did I choose to run another marathon? Did I really think this was going to be fun?’ But what you said is so true…those tough runs that you get through serve to make you tougher!
And taper-time will be here soon enough…keep at it like you always do.

So fun that you have a friend to train with!! Friends makes all the difference :)
I think when we push through those tough moments, its makes us stronger. I have been struggling a bit with going to the pool or on the bike and have been yearning to run so much. But I have to keep going, because its worth it! Soon enough I’ll be back on the road.
I have said this before, but you are going to ROCK at Boston!! So exciting!!
Have a wonderful rest of your Sunday! :)

I had my first SHORTS run this week!! It’s so exciting! Have you ever used Garmin Connect? I finally got mine to work after 2 years of having my Garmin and it’s soo awesome! Maybe I’m just really behind on things :)

Nice training! That baby picture is so adorable. I am so happy that I have been able to get outside and run again. I was feeling pretty discouraged with how much I wanted to die on the treadmill, but when I went outside I realized that I have improved my pace by 30-45 seconds!!

You are hearty, I would have frozen my behind off!

I am so inspired by all your running!! I am 7 weeks post-partum and ran until I was 35 weeks pregnant! I haven’t run one mile since my baby was born but I”m just ITCHING to get out there again! Living up north has made it challenging with the weather, but I have my BOB all set to go….for now, thanks for letting me get my running fix from you!
