I’ll have the race report up tomorrow morning! Long story short—> It was a tough race, I tried my hardest, I learned a lot and I am really happy with how it went.
Thinking about a large soda for the last 3 miles of the race got me to the finish line.
It was just as good as I thought it would be. Actually, it was even better than I had imagined.
It usually takes me awhile to be hungry again after a hard effort but I knew I needed salt (I add salt to my salads… weird) ASAP because the sweet gus that I took throughout the morning had me craving salty like crazy.
PS does anyone else besides Josse like these little mini corn things on their salad?
We ended up driving back north pretty quickly after the race which meant we stopped for a lot of stretch breaks. I don’t know why I always try to travel the day of a race because it does not help with the soreness. I even booked my boston flight in April to leave back home the same day as the race. Nothing like sitting on an airplane with zero leg room for a while right after running 26.2 miles. Someday I will learn.
The drive was pretty uneventful except for when my car decided to just stop. After hanging out on the side of the freeway for a bit it turned back on:)
When Brooke is gone I pretty much avoid being at home much. It just makes me miss her more and miss that little voice of hers. So I got home at 5:55 from St. George, got ready, made dinner and was at the movie theater by 7.
We went to see The Duff and I laughed pretty hard throughout the entire thing.
My other favorite post-race treat with an ginormous Oreo and a side of Lindsey.
Winter decided to finally show up in Utah. A whopping .2 inches of snow.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I hope you get to sleep in a bit this morning and enjoy an extra good breakfast!

Can’t wait to read the recap! We ended up winning my game yesterday in overtime… it was a close one! The 6 hours in the car yesterday wasn’t too fun either!
That froyo looks so good.. Can you believe I’ve never had froyo?!
The Hungry Runner Girl
HUGE CONGRATS on the win Leigha! You are amazing! We need to change the froyo situation asap!
Erica { EricaDHouse.com }
I have those runs where I crave a HUGE soda at the end! I also make the mistake of traveling home the same day of marathons. It’s not always the most fun, but it’s definitely doable!
Sarah @ KS Runner
I don’t like those little ears of corn. I always think they taste like dirt.
It’s hard traveling right after a run but not the worst thing ever. I always take a baby aspirin and wear my compression Socks when I fly after a race. And I try to get up and move around as much as I possibly can on an airplane!
Hollie
It sounds like you had a great race Janae and I could not be happier for you.
My mom first introduced me to those baby corns and I love to put those on my salads too. I like the bit of crunch they add! Have a great Sunday!
The Hungry Runner Girl
You and Josse would get along together really well;) Hope you are having an amazing day!
LESS THAN A WEEK UNTIL PHOENIX!! You are going to do amazing… ps I love your race photos from your first marathon!
FunFitGirl
winter is finally making an appearance here too…but so far we have almost a foot with more to come apparently.
I put salt on my salads too!
Linda @running4two
Congrats on your race!!!!
We got snowed in yesterday I spent some time with Ben and Jerry. Ugh.
Rebecca@RunningFoodBaby
We got about 15cm yesterday :-(
Travelling after a race = torture! At least on a plane, you can walk around. Driving the 7.5 hrs back from NYCM was torture
Mary
The snow hasn’t left NJ!
But today we are doing a fun run. Check in at bar, walk a block to the train station, take train one, two or three stops (about 1,3 or 6 miles) run back to the bar for pizza/omlets
It’s also my best friends birthday. And she is wearing a tiara for the run
Happy Sunday!
The Hungry Runner Girl
That sounds like the perfect morning. LOVE the tiara idea. Enjoy Mary!
Amy @ They May be Light
Can’t wait for your race report! I always end up traveling home race day too, thank goodness for compression socks/tights!
Jennifer
Congratulations on your race!!!! I’m heading out for my long run right now:)
Becca
Nah. I hate the little corns. My favorite Chinese restaurant tries to sneak them in, but i ouck them out. So happy you had a great race. I’m looking forward to the race recap.
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
Congrats on the race! Most important thing is that you had fun and it sounds like you achieved that. Happy Sunday!
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
Amazing race! And looks like lots of fun afterwards too :)
Sarah
I always crave soda after I run anything over 8 miles. It’s weird after that all I want is a diet coke!
Bridget
I love the mini corn things!!! I could eat a whole bowl of them.
I also crave salt after runs. I sweat out a TON of sodium.
Laur
I don’t eat the little corn things out of salads, but I always pick them out of vegetable mixes or Chinese food. Like the broccoli, they tend to soak up all the good gooey sauce on the Chinese “chicken”.
Sarah
Woah, flying home the day of a marathon???!! You are a tough cookie! I think the only way I could do that is if I could stretch out across five seats :)
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes
I put salt on my salads whenever I make them at home! I always want salty foods like bacon and eggs after a race or a hard long run.
Congratulations on your race! I’m excited to read about it. Hope you have a wonderful Sunday!
Nicole
Congrats on the race! Can’t wait to read about it!!
Brenda @ Don't Lose the Trail
I booked a flight for the day after American River 50 miler in April – from SF back to Boston. I’m already dreading how sore I’m going to be after that and it’s more than a month away!
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles
I love those little baby corns! I crave salt too after races. It’s not something I normally crave but definitely notice it in the hours after half marathons especially.
Gracie
Are you going to do another post on the race? I’d like all the details! Hope your car problem is easily fixed – that’s kind of scary.
The Hungry Runner Girl
Hey!! Yes, it will go up tomorrow morning! I hope you are having a great weekend!
Gracie
Ugh, reading comprehension problems. I see that….I should read more carefully!
Sorry :(
Sally @ sweat out the small stuff
Just ate my big breakfast. Avocado and cheddar cheese with lettuce, spinach, romaine and a little cream cheese on a bagel and a hard boiled egg. I’m stuffed!
We had snow and rain last night so it’s slushy all around. Perfect reason to stay cozy at home. Looking forward to your recap.
Mm I love Coke when I finish a race.
Kristina @ Blog About Running
I am in the same camp as you when it comes to traveling after a race! Last year I finished the Portland Marathon and then a couple of hours later hopped on a plane to travel back to Florida. When I got off the plane in FL I was in tears because my legs were so stiff. I’ll never do that again!
Congrats on pushing through the race yesterday and coming out strong!
Chelsea @ runner's table
We had snow in Salt Lake, too, but it was gone by 10am- crazy winter! I’m secretly hoping for 60 degree weather again soon…
Your froyo looks so good! I’ve been craving it lately, but also trying to avoid sweets…maybe next week. Have a good Sunday.
megan d
Congrats again on the race. We went and saw The Duff Friday night and looooved it. So random.
The Hungry Runner Girl
Megan D,
Would you mind going to that movie again with me and Candice?
I just want to laugh together and eat kettle corn and ice cream.
Much Love,
Janae
megan d
My dearest Janae,
I fully support this idea. In all of its entirety and look forward to it immensely.
With all of my love,
Megan D

The froyo………..yummers! I don’t really like the baby corn, but I am a huge fan of pineapple……….I put it on salads, pizza, hamburgers, turkey sandwiches, basically anything and everything I can!!
I could not even imagine traveling the day of……I like to walk around town or the mall after a race……….helps so much! And it is so weird that Utah and Tennessee seem to have traded temps this week……..we got snow, sleet and ice all day Friday and Saturday. Luckily it is mostly gone now.
Loribeth
Oh, and I am going to the movies tomorrow in Nashville, but I decided on McFarland, USA over Duff…………..a running movie that is playing the week of my birthday? Seems appropriate!
Cheri @ Overactive Blogger
Pumped to read the recap!
Sherilyn
I am running a half in NYC the day before the boston marathon and am traveling that day too. I just want to make it home to see the marathon!! Will probably cramp up and be sore but I can’t miss it. Do you have any tips for minimizing the soreness? Will be sure to bring my foam roller and drink a lot of water on the train!
Amanda B @ Cupcakes & Miles
I also put salt on my salads, so definitely not weird. :) Lately I have been switching things up with pink and/or black salt. And, I used to love putting the tiny corns on my salad. Not sure when/why I stopped though…hmm…
Brooke
I love those little corns! I get so excited when I find them in salad bars, lol.
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West
As always, congrats on the run! And you know, I never thought about post-race travel before, but you’re so right. You really should leave a day to stretch and move the legs before sitting down to get back home. Oh well! You can always stretch near the airplane bathroom — I do that sometimes. :)
Jessica @ kiwiyogirunner
Looking forward to hearing the race recap! :) haha that is a cute amount of snow, great if your not a fan though! I LOVE snow but definitely got my fix in the Saskatchewan winter of -30 degrees celcius! Hope you have a great weekend and the time flies by till when Brooke gets back :)
Natalie
Congrats on a great race!!! Hope you have a wonderful, relaxing Sunday!! :)
Jessica
I always have an overconfidence in my abilities post-race and end up travelling the day of as well. Someday we will learn..
Bree
I actually really love those baby corns. Josse and I would get along fine.
Rachel @ Blonde with a Chanse
I put salt on my salad too! I just gives it that extra punch of flavor that makes it even more delicious! I cannot wait for your race recap! You amaze me girl! Oh and I want to see The Duff SO bad! This is a totally random question and I know that Brooke didn’t come with you to this movie, but when did Brooke start enjoying sitting through a movie? My baby girl is only one and she is normally pretty fussy in movies, so I was just curious :)
Nicole A
I despise those little corn things! Congrats on your race! Excited for the recap!
Livi @ Eat, Pray, Work It Out
Traveling on race day sounds terrible!!
Laura
If you ever want to come to Boston before the big day to practice on Heartbreak hill or just explore the city, let me know! I’d love to run with you or show you around :)
Congrats on a great race!
jade
I always drive or fly home immediately after races due to family and work obligations…..you do what you have to do.
I hope you had a fun race! I do not like baby corns but my son loves them!
Nona @ RunningHigh
Congrats on your race!! So awesome. I’m getting so excited for my marathon on Saturday! Pumped to see how it all goes.
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona
I read The Duff years ago when it first came out. Sometimes you needs a little YA in your life when you don’t feel like reading anything too heavy.
I’n looking forward to hearing about your race.
James
Baby corn is just not nice. Big corn – nice… small corn – not. But I do get salt on my salads.
Hannah @ hannah goes running
Congratulations on your race!! Really can’t wait to read the recap and hopefully get some tips from you :) hope you had a great day!
Danica @ It's Progression
I always sprinkle salt (and pepper) over my salads!
I’m excited to hear about your race. I saw your picture on IG and your time was, again, incredible!
Mallory
I am obsessed with baby corn! Lol
Daisy @ Fit Wanderlust Runner
I travel a lot on race day. It’s just been what i do for i dont even know how many years now. But you are right nothing like getting even more sore by sitting down for a long period of time in a car.
Bron
Looking forward to the race recap – congratulations on coming third! You are so damn fast! I have a 5km race on Sunday then an 8km race in a couple of weeks which is a scenic run just outside of Auckland – I’m really looking forward to it but its full of hills so I need to get some hill training in stat! It’s still summer here and I have a child free evening tomorrow so I may just have to get me some froyo :-)
Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties
those little baby corns are my FAVORITE thing ever!!!
karla @ finding my fit
I want to see Duff bad… it looks pretty funny!
bangs friend loooks stunning! perfect little bump :)
Addison
Haha! I also love those little mini corn things on my salad. LOL
Elena
I dislike the mini corns but LOVE salt on my salad! Congrats on your race :)
Amy
Best thing about this post? Dude in the pink shirt is less than thrilled with the movie group pic. I laughed.
Kay
You are incredible – running, then driving, then to a movie?? haha
Losing Lindy
I couldn’t imagine not having my Mr. 7 around every day. Lucky for me, I don’t have to share him, granted I have zero me time..but no sharing
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job
I have never tried fueling during a race, but maybe I should do that. I usually just run and don’t have any serious problems, but it may help me out and improve things more. Im also never hungry after a big workout, but try and make myself eat something.
