Running clothes, a playlist, great form and Valentine’s Day questions for you.

Lately I’ve been sporting the PureProject Jacket II.

Two things are extremely important to me when it comes to workout clothes:

1.  Function.  Does the piece of clothing do what I want it to do?  Does it keep me warm?  Does it move well?  Is it comfortable?  Does it keep me dry?  Reflective?  Etc.

2.  Does it make me look cool when I wear it for the rest of the day? I generally don’t get ready for the day until about 9 hours after finishing my work out.  Is it something that I love to wear outside of just running?

This jacket answers both of my questions with a big yes.

I love the stretch material which makes it extremely flexible (especially in the shoulders of the jacket) and easy to run in.  It is a super light jacket yet keeps me pretty darn warm (it is also water-proof and wind-proof).  I personally think it looks awesome and it has little details (like the petal hems in the front) on it that make it unique to running jackets.  It is great for winterish running with an awesome base layer underneath and I think it will be perfect for ‘kind of cold’ spring mornings with just a tank under.

PS try to look away from my hair, I don’t remember the last time that I had brushed it before these photos.

I love the petal hems in the back too!

I’d like to thank my mother for always being so willing to take 45 pictures of me whenever I want to show you guys something.  Her photography skills are legit.

Running clothes > real people clothes.

My bday is tomorrow and so I want to do my long run on my bday instead of on Saturday so I didn’t run today to get ready for tomorrow.  Instead I taught a spin class and it was still a killer workout.

Today’s playlist.

Lots of sprints, hill climbs, jumps and dancing:)

After spin Brookers and I went to my absolute favorite running trail.

On Tuesday during my speed workout I took off my long sleeve shirt and gloves and hid them under a bunch of leaves because I was overheating.  I forgot to pick them up yesterday so we went there today.  No joke… Brooke probably ran .75 miles on the path.

She has great form in my opinion.

And then we went and got our nails done for my bday eve (yes, I stretch my bday out for way too long).

Her first time and she did pretty awesome.

For Valentine’s Day… would you rather get:

-A box of chocolates

-Flowers

-Lots of red gummy candy (swedish fish, red gummy bears, cinnamon bears etc)

-Running shoes

-All of the above

-Other  (explain)

For a Valentine’s Day Date… would you rather:

-Go to a fancy restaurant.

-Get take-out and watch a movie at home.

-Go do something active like a run, hike, air hockey competition etc.

-Go to a movie and get froyo afterwards.

-Other  (explain)

Is anyone else still in their workout clothes right now besides just me (it would help me feel a little bit better to know that I am not alone)!?

What songs did you listen to on your last workout?!

I would love running shoes or a race entry!

For the date I like going to a fancy restaurant (after I get good and hungry for a long run or speedwork out lol)!

Right now I am really liking Don’t by Ed Sheeran as a running song!

Reply

I don’t need a Mr. Fancy Pants, just some chocolate and gummies and a movie in my PJs….oh wait, I’m single. Maybe next year ;).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY EVE! Best way to start a new year = a run. You go glen coco.

Reply

I am work clothes right now which are definitely less awesome than workout clothes. On the positive side, I’m totally wearing a workout shirt with a cardigan over it (workout shirt is clean!). That passes for work clothes, right?

I think for Valentines Day I would like to receive running clothes, but if all of the above is really an option, than I will go for that! For Valentines Date, I say froyo and a movie, but only if I got my workout in earlier in the day. If I didn’t probably a run/hike.

Have a great Birthday tomorrow! You’re supposed to celebrate it all week! Friday the 13th is the best birthday date (I’m Dec. 13)!

Reply

Hmmm…..

All of the above except for the flowers. I’m not really a flower person. But run gear and food? Yes please.

Take out and movie at home (that way I can wear stretchy pants hah).

Happy early birthday, Janae!! Hope it’s the best ever!

Reply

I would love running shoes and chocolate! Specifically another pair of Pure Flow 3s and peanut butter M&Ms, on the off-chance my husband is reading ;).
A run and the dinner cooked in would be perfect. That’s probably what we’re doing!
I’ll still in my workout clothes from post-run strength training this morning!
Happy birthday eve!!!

Reply

That is the cutest jacket ever!!! For Valentines, I love getting chocolate, getting take out and staying in to watch a movie. For my workout my favorite song lately has been Thunder Clatter by Wild Club. It’s perfect for both running & spinning.

Reply

I think I would rather get a box of chocolate than running shoes – which says a lot about how much I love chocolate! I also think I’d like to go to a movie and then froyo, because I love movies and deserts :)

Reply

Other – I’d rather have STEAK. Only because I just got new running shoes ;)

I WISH I was still in my workout clothes. I’m in boring work clothes :/

Reply

I would rather hang out at home for Valentine’s Day. We don’t really celebrate it anyway, so just hanging out is usually fine for me. There is always chocolate in the house, so no need to stockpile more haha.

I am usually in my workout clothes for far too long. I go to work, teach, workout, then come home and write my post for that day. I don’t take a shower before it is done because it must be written RIGHT NOW. If I have other errands like running to Costco then I just leave it on as well. Whoops.

Today was a rest day and I didn’t have to leave the house, so I have literally been in my robe all day long. It’s amazing.

Reply

Tim and I are having the perfect Valentine’s Day together and running a 5k and then cooking together. I think it will be a lot of fun and I’m really excited for it!

Happy early birthday Janae and I know you are going to have a great birthday tomorrow!

Reply

I am a flowers kind of girl! As for the date, definitely take-out and a movie. My man’s a movie lover and he’s gotten me into it too. Unfortunately, he’s in the Merchant Marine and won’t be back until May or June, so I’ll be celebrating all on my own. There’s always next year though. :)

Happy birthday eve!!!

Reply

I’m so excited to turn 18 tomorrow!! I’m in England so only an 1 and half till my birthday, I can’t wait!! Definitely a box of chocolates and then a movie at home, simple is the best way to go! If I didn’t go to school, I’m pretty sure I would live in my workout clothes ;)

Reply

Duhh. Don’t you know it’s a birthday week. Gotta celebrate all week long ;) that’s what I do too. Awee.Brooke does have great form in her red pants. Lol

I told my husband all I wanted was a heart shaped pizza from papa Murphys for valentines. I wouldn’t mind some chocolate too though ;)

Reply

My daughter’s birthday is tomorrow too! She has requested S’mores bars for school- so thanks for that recipe! We had her friends party last weekend, will celebrate tomorrow of course and then again Sunday when we head to Florida to visit her grandparents!! Disney World and warm running weather! Can’t wait! I’m not a fan of Valentine’s Day and my husband is more than okay with it!

Reply

I’m definitely a candy & card type girl for Valentine’s Day…..but I don’t really have a Valentine this year so I’m going to go for a run and then lay on the beach all day with my mom and I think it’ll be great. ;)

Reply

I didn’t even work out and I’m in workout clothes, lol! They are much better than real clothes :)

Reply

I stretch my Birthday out all month! Happy Birthday to my fellow Aquarius!
I would want to get something related to running (swimming, yoga or cycling).
Going to a movie date w/ my husband is my favorite thing! And we will on a little vacation this weekend and that might just be what we do. I work at home, so “amen” to wearing workout clothes/yoga clothes all.the.time. I don’t actually wear the ones I worked out in that day but put on clean ones!

Reply

Running clothes are always better than real people clothes!

I’m always up for going out to eat but Valentine’s Day is usually crowded so we’re either going to cook at home or get takeout.

Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate!!

Happy birthday!! I’m planning a long run for my birthday as well!

Reply

Still in workout clothes and its 2:30pm. BUT going to shower and pick up my kids from school.
For valentine’s day, I’d much rather get take out and watch a movie at home. However, I have 12 days until the Bar exam, so I will spend Valentine’s day studying. I’ll quit early to enjoy a movie but that won’t be until 8-9pm. Oh well.

Reply

Gift: running shoes!
Date: take-out and movie at home
I regularly run, shower, and put on clean workout clothes.
No music on my last workout…I ran with friends:)

Reply

Happy birthday eve, as a valentines baby I’m a little jealous with anyone who doesn’t share my birthday. Although this year the best Valentines gift I could get is for baby #2 to decide to make his appearance :)

Reply

I’m definitely a stay in for Valentine’s Day kind of person. Restaurants are going to be crazy busy and I’d rather just avoid all of it. This year for Valentine’s Day my boyfriend and I are going to a Calgary Flames game. We’re both big hockey fans so I’m sure it’ll bet a great night.

Reply

I don’t want to wish you a happy birthday yet because that’s bad luck (crazy Russian superstitions, I know right…) so instead I’m going to wish you a great night and an awesome day tomorrow!

My perfect gift = flowers, preferably peonies!
My perfect date = homemade dinner, romantic evening at home (so cheesy yikes)

Reply

I would love all of the above for the gifts, and takeout and a movie night in sounds perfect! Especially since that is probably what my hubby and I will be doing :) The last song I listened to during my workout was Shake It Off because my daughter was crying and it makes her happy haha!

Reply

Still in workout clothes.
Chris and my valentines date and present is making each other valentines.
Brooke so pretty in her nail picture.

Reply

I just got my nails done! Brooke’s look way better than mine though:)
I would love to get some running shoes for Valentines day. And I think I would like to stay in and have someone cook for me…I don’t really like take out but its always nice to get a break from cooking!

Reply

I am in my workout clothes. I work in an office during the day…but usually stay in my workout clothes until I know the boss will be in. LOL. And if it makes you feel any better, 90% of my laundry is workout clothes each week!!!

HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Are you doing anything special??

Reply

I’d want flowers or running shoes. Actually both but flowers are so much fun to get.
My boyfriend is cooking dinner for us for dinner on 2/14 but I’m in charge of bringing dessert. I would never go out to a restaurant that day. I hate crowds and price gouging =)

Reply

I’ve been married 22 years and have never been a fan of Valentine’s Day. My hubs shows me every day in small and big ways how much I mean to him and I hope I return the favor. If we did do gifts running shoes>flowers but a trip to Lulu or a Stitch Fix box would be even better.
Totally in my workout clothes 7+ hours post workout. Today is a go directly to pajamas kind of day.

Reply

Brooke running is so cute!
Valentine’s Day: I’d love a great pair of socks-stripey, polka dotty, crazy, or something ultimate in comfort and fun (like the Bombas I have on right now….) Going out: A run or bike ride with coffee afterwards!!!! or a fun long walk to someplace to get a treat. However, some of my best Valentine’s Day’s have been making heart shape pizzas with the kiddos and debating the merits of heart shape Reese’s PB cups vs the regular size.

Totally in workout clothes. But, at least I did shower and put clean one’s on…..at 9:30pm which was hours after my run in freezing cold weather.

Reply

Oh my gosh. Brooke’s little face of concentration as she gets her nails done is so adorable. Have a great birthday, Janae! You deserve it!

Reply

I would rather get running shoes! Seriously, you can never have enough.

And today, I worked from home, so I went straight from pajamas –> running clothes –> pajamas. Feels good, man.

Reply

Happy Birthday Janae! Hope you have an awesome day :)

For Valentine’s Day I would like flowers best – I love coming home to a house that smells of fresh flowers.

And I would be happy with either takeout and a movie at home, or a movie and froyo. Which means I’m super lucky this Valentine’s Day, because I’ll be doing both with my hubby!

Reply

Oooh…

1. Running shoes AND Candy
2. Take out/movie OR something fun and active!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOMORROW!!!!!!

Reply

Happy birthday!

For Valentine’s Day, the only thing I want is a plane ticket. I live in PA, he lives in UT. He is the best and being away from him is the worst.

Reply

For Valentine’s Day… I’d rather get RUNNING SHOES!

Reply

Do you teach spin often? I would love to take a class where you teach.

Reply

Such Great Heights & Eet!!? We must be friends.

Lots of red gummy candy & get outside/then stay in to watch a movie. Perfect Valentines day!

Enjoy your birthday run tomorrow and happy birthday beautiful!!!!!!!!

Reply

My husband and I don’t really exchange gifts though so I’m not expecting anything (though I’d choose cookies or something for the baby if I did ;) , which is perfectly fine with me. We’re staying in on Saturday night – he’s cooking something for dinner and I’m making a fruit pizza for dessert!

Reply

I’m in my pajamas right now because I actually showered after my workout.. pretty proud of myself! I went to the weight room and did some strength stuff – I’m gonna be sore tomorrow! Happy Bday Eve!! Birthdays should definitely be celebrated as much as possible and you are doing it right. I hope you have a wonderful day tomorrow and kill your run!!

Reply

I have the best Valentine’s Day ever planned this year.

RUNNING A MARATHON.

Reply

Brooke’s nails look so pretty! You’ve got a future runner on your hands! :D

Reply

Ok this is going to sound really crazy, but I literally have not bought a running jacket in 2 YEARS because I am so picky about them! I’ll definitely need to check that one out.

My perfect Valentines Day… flowers and froyo please! (Thanks Dad :))

Reply

I’d rather get running shoes, a box of chocolates, or other (a pint of my favorite ice cream!)

Reply

Happy early Birthday! My husband’s birthday is tomorrow, too. I hope you have a wonderful day and a super fast long run tomorrow!

For Valentine’s Day, I always get 2 cards (one funny and one sweet) and roses from my husband. Some years he surprises me and I prefer that. Normally I dislike surprises, but not on Valentine’s Day! I’d love a poem, a new movie, running shoes, or anything that made him think of me.

I am not in my workout clothes, but am in my pjs! After picking my daughter up at the bus stop and the cold front blew in, it was time for pjs. That was 4:30pm!

Reply

For Valentine’s Day, I want chocolates AND red candy…I keep telling my boyfriend that all I want for Valentine’s Day is food! Runners get hungry ;)

Happy early birthday!

Reply

I would rather get red gummy candies and running shoes :)

For a Valentine’s Day Date I would rather get take-out and watch a movie at home.

I’m not currently in workout clothes, but I am watching tv in my pajamas if that helps.

I was watching part of Grease during my last run.

Reply

My boyfriend and I always stay in on Valentine’s Day. We make dinner together and watch a movie. It’s legit.

I’m in my running clothes, but it’s 6pm and I just finished running. I usually change pretty quickly since I get so cold after running in my wet gear!

Reply

I showered but then put running clothes on for tomorrow.
Check out my new post http://www.runonoatmeal.com/luna-bar-giveaway/

Reply

Running shoes
movie and froyo
Just took my workout clothes off and its 8:20pm. I did have a semi shower because I swam first but then went to a power class.

Reply

Happy early birthday Janae!

Brooke is going to be a fast runner like her mama!

Chocolate for valentines day. Don’t waste money on flowers. Just buy extra chocolate.

Reply

Definitely go for a hike for Valentines! The boyfriend and I are going camping!

Reply

I hope you have an AMAZING Birthday tomorrow!!!!! Have a great run!

Reply

I think I would rather running shoes and a race entry …and maybe a single rose? That sounds very fun!!!

HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY, Janae!!! I hope it’s an amazing day for you!:)

Reply

I actually am in my workout clothes right now… but I just changed into them 20 minutes ago so that I don’t have an excuse to not workout when I get home from my daughters gymnastics class ;)

Fave valentine gift: a sweet card, preferably hand made. I’m pretty simple, not that I would turn away new running shoes, that would be pretty nice too :)

Fave valentine date: Date? What’s that? My daughters usually get all gussied up in fancy dresses and my jewelry, I pull out an old bridesmaid dress, and we make my husband wear a tie over his t-shirt and then eat a simple meal (like hot dogs and mac&cheese) on the good china… it’s our little tradition ;) But if I was willing to pay for a babysitter, I would love to go to the movies (preferably with foul language no cartoons) and eat popcorn and candy ;)

Reply

Happy almost birthday!

Skip the candy and chocolate -everyday’s an excuse to eat chocolate in my book :) I’m much more of a spend time together/give an experience as a gift type person. I’d love a race entry or tickets to a fun show!
For date, I’d say something outdoors/active if I didn’t live in the wintery vortex that is Boston right now. Given current conditions: stay in, cook a meal together and watch a movie.

I wish I was still in my workout clothes! Every morning when I take off my running shorts and shimmy into my nylons and pencil skirt I die a little bit inside.

Current song obsession is Shut Up and Dance by Walk the Moon. It’s just so catchy!

Reply

Whoa. Completely forgot about The Postal Service. I used to love them.
Oreos! And either take-out or go out to eat at a new restaurant (doesn’t have to be fancy).
I love that Brooks jacket! The back is really cute. I do wish their stuff was a little cheaper, but stuff like jackets is worth the splurge.

Reply

Its 1.34pm and I’m still in my workout clothes! Gotta get cleaned up before school pick up. I love how you get so excited about your birthday. I do too and my bday is only a couple of days away too.
Valentine’s Day – all of the above, but my husband knows that chocolate is non-negotiable.
Songs – Happy, Dangerous, Cool Kids, Geronimo, Superheroes, Uptown Funk, Best Day of my Life. There’s more but I’m probably boring you now.
I love little Brooke – I have 3 boys so reading your blog gets my daily dose of girl cuteness.x

Reply

chocolate and running shoes please :)
i’m working on learning spanish so my running playlist is currently all spanish songs and podcasts

Reply

I’d definitely like a new pair of running shoes and to go on an early hike and then watch movies in the house :)

Reply

I’d love an hour or two to myself while my husband watches the kids and then for our date, I’d be tickled pink to hold hands across the table at a pub, drink beer and eat nachos and hot wings. And for my latest running song? “This is What it Feels Like” by Banks.

Reply

I would definitely want workout clothes and new Asics.

I am single and have been for a long time… and I hate to be an abnormal 27.5 year old, but I kind of like doing whatever I want on Valentine’s. I use it to give back to myself (as you recall, being a high school teacher can be tough, stressful, taxing–even though I adore my kids).

It is 9:34 pm in Chicago.. and I am still in workout clothes.

Reply

Running clothes would be awesome for a gift!

Date: A hike, picnic and watching the sunset.

I am in clean running clothes :)

Reply

That picture of Brooke getting her nails done is adorable! She looks very into it.

I generally don’t like to celebrate Valentine’s Day in a big way. I would much rather someone randomly do something nice for me on any old day. Buttttt I’m never one to turn down chocolate :)

Reply

I’m still in my running clothes too so no worries!

I would rather have all those things for Valentine’s Day because why not if you have the option?!?! hahah! I ended up purchasing a pair of Lululemon pants that I’ve been wanting for a very long time for myself for Valentine’s Day since I don’t have a Valentine this year. I hope you and your beau enjoy the day! :)

Reply

Ooh, I love date ideas. I’m super into active dates, especially early on in a relationship. I want to find out if they’re as psyched about getting outside as I am. :) Hiking, rock climbing, or hot yoga are all fun ideas. I’m also always down to try out pub trivia at a local dive.

Reply

Running shoes AND candy!

My bday is this upcoming week too – maybe I will steal your idea and go get my nails done!

Reply

OK first of all: Happy Birthday to you… Happy Birthday to you…Happy Birthday dear HRG…Happy Birthday to you!!!! Have a wonderful run and day and may this year bring you and Brooke lots of happiness!!
OK for Valentines Day… Hubby and I do not celebrate it.. However, I think its a cute holiday and For Valentine’s Day… would you rather get: Running does… Oh yes!
For my Valentine Day Date: I think a nice restaurant to dress up and look pretty is always a nice thing to do with your honey!
I am not in my workout clothes… But my work clothes… I am on day 2 of a 6 day stretch!
I love your workout list and think I will be copying it! Love the collaboration of the mx.. Nice, very nice!
TGIF Have a great day everyone!

Reply

Happy Birthday! I hope you have a great birthday run today.

And running shoes definitely.

Happy Birthday :)

Reply

For Valentine’s, my bf and I are going to a gun range and then to a casual dinner and home for a fire in the fire pit and marshmallows. I would prefer all things running as gifts, but it means more to me as a hang/date out day than a gift day.

Reply

Flowers and outdoor adventures, then dinner and a movie! Happy Birthday!

Reply

Gift: Running Shoes!
My Husband asked me last week (!) what I wanted for VDay and of course I said new running shoes. And because I’m not sentimental, I went to Road Runner sports almost immediately and purchased my Nikes. Oh, and I just had to get new socks as well :).

Date: Take out and movie at home
Sushi all the way. But we are going out for Froyo. I’m going back for a second round if I want more!

Reply

Right now it is Feb. 13th so Happy Birthday!! And I agree, birthdays should be celebrated over a few days….not just one!?

I personally dislike Valentine’s Day…..so I picked up a shift at my Y so another lady could be home with her hubby and celebrate. Bring me any lovey thing any other day of the year but on Valentine’s Day forget it…too made up and the feeling of “I should get something or “have” to get something is too much pressure”!!

‘-)

Reply

Brooke getting her nails done is just too cute for words.

Reply

You are so lucky to have such beautiful places to run! The mountains are just amazing. I’m totally envious of your “winter” weather this year too. Keep up the good work w/ Boston training!

Reply

HAHA I love the back to back pictures of brooke running through different scenes! And the pic of her getting her nails done is precious! I remember taking my niece to get her face painted at a fair and she had that same look of calm/concentration :)

Reply

How about go for a hike, get cleaned up and have dinner at a fancy restaurant, get fro-yo for dessert then take it home to eat while watching a movie? Best of all worlds.
Wow, I need to do that sometime!

Reply

I would love all of the above Valentine’s gifts! And I think a movie and froyo would be the best!

Reply

I would rather get new running clothes! Then go to dinner at a nice restaurant where we could just talk. Nothing fancy needed here.

I have to get out of my running clothes right away and get ready for work in the morning. Yuck.

Reply

Hmmm I love Chocolate too much not to want that above anything.
Tomorrow we have plans to run in the morning and then try to re-create a joes crab shack steamer for dinner, build a blanket fort, and then watch movies in it while we eat! :]

I workout at night before bed (I’m at work from 7am-5:30pm) so i don’t have too much time other than that to run. It sucks but it’s what I have to do for now so it means I don’t have much time to lounge around in my running clothes.

I have been in love with listening to panic! at the disco music. It’s so up beat and great for me to run to. :]

Reply

I really don’t need/want a gift…and in terms of what we do – just do something together that we BOTH enjoy.

LOL – no, I am in work clothes…but I like them so that’s good!

Those mountains are just beautiful!! I was out in SLC a number of years ago visiting a certain man, and I have a huge pic on my wall at home from one of my hikes there…just gorgeous!

Reply

I am always crossing my fingers for diamonds but that never happens. I don’t like the boxed chocolate cuz you never know what you are gonna get (thanks Forrest Gump) there is usually only 1 or 2 that are actually good. I do like the chalky hearts, heck we only eat them once a year so might as well. I would love some new running shoes though. My husband got me great running gloves for my birthday (Feb 1st) so he’s getting better. LOL

Reply

For some reason red gummies sound soooo yummy right now! I would likely prefer something competitive on vday cuz that is how I roll, yo. And workout clothes for life! I listened to Blame by Calvin Harris (catchy, catchy).

Happy bday and vday!! :)

Reply

Flowers and chocolates all the way! See’s is the BEST and we usually save it for special occasions like Valentine’s Day. Date would probably either be fancy restaurant and/or movie. I’m currently in work clothes but seriously…after I work out, it usually takes me forever to shower/change which is super gross but I don’t care :D so don’t feel alone!

Reply

Brooke’s first mani! <3

Reply

running shoes for a bday gift, all the way…and this year for Vday, i’ll say fancy restaurant, although i’d usually prob prefer to stay home w/ food and a movie. this post totally reminded me that i need to paint my nails! love the pix of Brooke running. have a great wknd!

Reply

hmm, dark chocolate or running shoes.

We don’t usually go out to eat, I usually cook. Last year we went out because I was out returning running shoes that were too small. One of my fave places is right near the store and it was fairly empty. Guess no one realized they were open so we scored.

I have a strange blend of music: Abba, Metallica, Queen, Brooks and Dunn, Keisha. I like most music…

My husband and I had planned a romantic dinner at a great restaurant in town, but then found out my daughter’s jr high band was scheduled to play at our local university during the Men’s basketball game. So, change of plans. Can’t say I’m too bummed as one of my favorite things to do would be to go to sporting events with my hubby (and family).

Reply

I would always rather have gummy candy :) and I would love to do a hike and then maybe go out for dinner after! Pretty much exactly what me and my bf did this year was perfect :) and yes I am still in workout clothes! :)

Reply

I am still in my workout clothes from this morning – so gross!

Reply

Ooh I love that jacket, it looks great on you!

Reply

I’m pretty boring when it comes to Valentines Day. I absolutely hate it. I think we should celebrate with our loved ones everyday of the year. But if the hubby got me a new pair of running shoes I think I would love him even more! :)
