Minneapolis, I really like you so far.

I made it to Minnesota (my bag didn’t and it is still lost somewhere in Colorado but I made it so I am happy).  It is cold here.  Like so cold that your teeth feel frozen when you go outside.  It is very beautiful here, the city is incredible and the people are so nice.

I was first greeted with my new favorite sweatshirt that has the Honey Nut Cheerio Bee on it.  Comfortable clothing makes the world a better place.

We started our day together at the Mill City Museum learning all about Cheerios and about the history of General Mills.  Such an amazing company!

As you know, I am obsessed with things with my name on it.  I will be framing this box.

IMG 5804

We had a fun tour of the museum with Monica, Amanda, Julie, Tina and Gina!  I adore my internet friends.

Before we knew it it was time to go eat at Travail.  The coolest dining experience I have ever had.

Had to do a little of Monica’s running pose for the camera.

First, appetizers from the chef.

IMG 5824

Just a few of the beautiful dishes that we had (for the main course I think there were about 6 more than this!

And for dessert we had cereal dippin’ dots that we made ourselves…

The Cocoa Puffs one was to die for.

I hope you have an amazing Wednesday!  I stopped by a store to get some running gear so that I can fit in a morning run today.  You gotta do what you gotta do to get your run on.

Wow, the biggest of the big bloggers all in one spot. That sweatshirt looks really warm (I could def use one right now). That is adorable that they put the servings into little bowls like that.

I’m not sure the best part of my Wednesday just yet…I have the day off of work so relaxing and is always fun right?

Reply

I would totally also have bought new running gear to get a run in! Have fun!

I love cereal for dessert! Soo good! I’m back in New Zealand now so it’s lovely and warm but when I was in Minnesota a few months ago I thought I would freeze!
I hit snooze every day on average seven times :)
Enjoy your run, I’m sure it will be worth it!

Reply

It’s 10 degrees at the moment but warming up to 29 today.
I think the best part of my day will happen at 6:15 pm. I am a street team member for the nj marathon. We are meeting at a burger joint in the city to talk about promoting the race in these last couple of months. It’s a fun part time job to have in conjunction with my boring day job. :)
Smarty to buy new gear. I always take running gear in my carry on especiall my sneakers. :)

I’m originally from MN! I love it there and would love to be back living there. Yes, the temps can be bitter cold sometimes!

My husband and I were just at Trevail last week! It’s about a mile from our house and one of the best restaurants in Minneapolis! We did have warmer weather last week, but I can’t excuse the mid-teens in February…better than the polar vortex we had last winter!

Reply

Okay, that is so awesome that you live so close to Trevail! That place was amazing!! I hope you are staying warm and I am so glad that it is warmer than last year!

Reply

I’m in Chicago visiting my dad and it’s 1 degree right now, it’s freezing!! Best part about my day is babysitting my little sister, even though she woke up at 5:45! It’ll be a long day!! I hope they find your suitcase soon, it’s the worst when that happens! Keep having fun :)

Reply

I did snooze today- 3 times, and I usually don’t! Im hoping for a morning delay due to icy roads!

Welcome to Minnesota, Janae!

I have lived here for quite a while-and am a medical student at the University here!

The weather is glorious in the summer-and the running trails along the river/stone arch bridge are THE best part. Lots of friendly runners here:)

Hope you enjoy your stay!

Reply

Looks so fun! Glad you all get yo get together!!!

Reply

If it weren’t for the cold I would totally think about moving to Minneapolis, I think it’s a great city! Haha it’s shockingly WAY colder than Chicago if that’s possible. Okay not “way” but at least 10-15 degrees. Not that I plan to stay here forever either… I need a warmer climate asap.

Reply

I live in Minnesota and I work downtown! I’d love to meet you! Maybe we’ll run into each other. :)

Yes, it’s pretty cold and brutal. Use the skyway!

Reply

AHHHH I wish we could have met. I am already back to Utah now.. short trip! Yes, those skyways are lifesavers! Have an amazing day and I loved your city!

Reply

Wow, looks like an amazing day! You met the chef himself? Looks like a homey, cottage-y kind of wooden place you dined at. Hope to meet you and Brooke in person one day.

Reply

I live in Minneapolis! How long are you here for?

Reply

HEY AMY!!! I am so sad but I am already back home. It was a super short trip that was jam packed. Next time I am there I will put together a meet up! Have an amazing night!

Sounds like a great experience! One of my best friends is planning to move to Minneapolis later this year…I am scared for her with how cold it gets there!!

Reply

I couldn’t imagine losing my luggage! Is it weird I would be more upset about losing my workout clothes than my underwear? Enjoy the rest of your trip! Your hair looks SUPER dark in the first picture. Did you dye it? I like it!

Reply

How fun!! I just ate Honey Nut Cheerios this morning. I love my cereal!

Reply

It’s a balmy 31 degrees here in Geneva, Switzerland today so I can’t complain!

Reply

Hopefully your bag makes it soon! At least you were able to pick up a few things so you can go for a run (outside???). This doesn’t strike me as the best time of year to go to Minnesota!

Reply

I AM IN MN!!!!! I can’t believe all you guys are here…you should have had a meet and greet ~ or GM’s should ~ ha! Why- oh- Why did you have to come on the COLDEST day we have had (just about) so far this winter!! Feeling for you…..brrrrr!

Reply

i never hit snooze! i’m a “get it over and done with” kind of person.

Completely sucks you still don’t have your bag! At least you got to get some new gear, that is always fun!
I love Cheerios with banana…one of my favs!!

Reply

Coolest box of cheerios ever!

Oh no, I am so sorry about your bag!!
I don’t eat a ton of cereal, but I must say…. plain Cheerios are my JAM, ohhh how I love those guys!

The temperatures are in the 20s in Raleigh and tomorrow the low…. -1! We simply o not get that kind of cold in NC!

I live just east of Chicago on Lake Michigan and we have been so cold! Today the wind chill is supposed to get down to -20 or so!
I really want to visit Minn., but in summer!

Reply

Ugh so sorry you lost your bag! Glad you got your running gear though!

Temp here in Boston is a balmy 19 degrees with a feels like windchill of 12

I’m from the Midwest (Iowa originally) and lived a year in Minneapolis after college! It’s a cool city but it is freaking FREEZING in the winter. Their summers are incredible though and their food is amazing and the city is SO CLEAN. Def some good running routes too!

I’m HOPING the best part of my Wednesday will be my run after Pilates later but likely it will be the catered BBQ my office is getting for lunch!

I only hit snooze once today! A record for me.

Glad you’re having fun and thanks for sharing!

Reply

Looks like you guys are having a good time. I hope your bag makes it there!

I’m a habitual snooze button hitter. the number of times I hit snooze in the morning is kind of embarrassing.

Reply

there is the best place to get cocoa there-caribou coffee! ESP since it is cold! I always grab one at their airport!!

Reply

Your Bee sweatshirt looks so comfy!

It is currently 8 degrees here, with a “feels like” temp of -16. Yuck.

Have a great time… that looks like a really fun one to attend!

Reply

Looks like you girls are having a fun time! I am jealous but not jealous of the weather. It’s 80s in Phoenix. Hope they find your bag.

Reply

I live just south of Minneapolis and I’m a member of the church too so if you need anything please know you have lots of friends here who would love to help. We totally could have set you up with some running clothes. I’ve had the airlines lose my bags a couple times and now only travel with a carry on. Sounds like a good excuse to go shopping.

Reply

A cheerio box with your name on it! So cool!

The temps here are crazy. Yesterday the high was 81 degrees and tomorrow it’s 61 degrees. Last winter we hardly got any cold days at all, and this winter is all over the place! I was totally sweatin it out during my run last night. It reminded me of summer running!

Reply

The weather is frreeeeezzzing in Chicago. All of my students are hoping for a ‘frozen weather’ day tomorrow; I doubt that it will happen.

I never hit the snooze now because I have to take a pill 30 minutes before eating.. so I have to get right up.

If you like tea, try to go to Tea Source in MN. The best part of my Wednesday will be nailing another workout. :-)

Reply

I am moving to Minneapolis in a few days! I just got a job there and I’m relocating from New Mexico. I’m excited but also a little scared about the weather differences :) it’s supposed to be almost 70 here today!

Reply

I am jealous of that Cheerio box! haha! I normally get up right away but I had the hardest time making it out of bed today. I did it and got a run in though!

Reply

THANK YOU SARAH for sharing this with me… super interesting read.

Welcome! Why on earth would GM bring you all here in FEBRUARY!?!! Minnesota is amazing in summer and fall but I could do without the winters here.

Reply

Which store did you stop by?!

Reply

Just now seeing your comment! I was at the Raddison so I just went into Gap Fit and Footlocker ha. Just checked out your awesome site!

Reply

Thanks! If you’re still around Friday, checkout Mill City Running. Flapjack run is at 6:30 am. Run then eat pancakes. It’s a perfect combination.

Reply

I live in Minneapolis and it is NOT always this cold- this is bad even for us.

However, I’m flying to Tokyo TODAY to run the marathon there on Sunday!!!! Cannot wait.

Which running store did you go to? Mill City Running?

Reply

Have an amazing time in Tokyo! That is awesome! Ummmm I just went to Footlocker because it was right next to my hotel haha!

Reply

It has been SO cold the last few weeks. I don’t remember winter being this cold last year. Whose idea was it to train for spring marathons anyway? Just kidding, but the treadmill is getting old. The best part of my Wednesday is dinner at a great mexican place followed by 50 shades of grey with my college girlfriends! I did not hit the snooze on my alarm clock today because I knew I needed to get up on time but I would say most days I do. I hope you have a great Wednesday!!

Reply

Minnesotan born and raised. I live just a few miles away from the General Mills Headquarters! :) I hope you’re liking it here so far!! The winter temps are tough but I think it gives Minnesotans a little strength and character to survive the temps each year. Summer and fall here are the best. The city is nice but northern Minnesota (north shore area) is where the state really shines. Hope you have a great stay and that “Minnesota Nice” holds true for everyone you meet!

Reply

I totally snoozed today. It was very much needed. Hope they find your bag and get it to you soon!

Reply

Have fun! Minneapolis is a cool city. My husband grew up there, so we visit pretty regularly. We were there for New Year’s this year, and running was awful in the cold (2 pants, double socks, a face mask and I was STILL freezing), but we had fun and went to some great restaurants.

Reply

you’re so close to me! well, close may be a bit of an exaggeration but you’re in the neighboring state. stay warm ;)

best part of my wednesday.. only being 2 days away from Friday.

Reply

Hi Janae! Welcome to Minnesota!!!!! I live in Mpls/St. Paul. Sorry, the weather is not the greatest, but it will get better by the weekend!!! Don’t for get to check out the Mall of America!!! They have every store you can imagine! Currentky, it’s -8 degrees but at least the sun is out – makes it feel a little better:-)

Reply

Welcome to MN! Too bad you came during such a cold snap. You should run Grandmas Marathon sometime if you haven’t already, it’s awesome!

Reply

I really want to so bad!! Thanks Bridget and stay warm!

Reply

I can’t believe they lost your bag and it’s still lost!!! I am totally with you though, my first stop would have been to get some running gear…and sweats. :)

Love the cereal box with your name on it! That’s way cooler than the Coke bottles. :)

Reply

OMG I am so sorry you lost your bag. I am glad you found a running store though to get the much needed necessities! Hopefully your bag gets found and sent home to you! Love that box of cereal, so cute.

Reply

Minnesotans are So NICE. I lived there a few years (in Duluth, home of Grandma’s marathon, which you should do!!). The phrase Minnesota Nice is so true :)

Reply

Booo for the lost baggage :( I was traumatized once in my youth when my suitcase was lost en route to Russia. When we finally got it back, it ended up that a bunch of my clothes were stolen. Trauma I tell you! Since then I avoid checking in my bag at all costs.

Reply

Welcome to MN…your visiting during the coldest weather days! Looks like you are exploring and experiencing all the incredible things our city has to offer! Enjoy your stay!

My sister lives in Minneapolis! I’ve run through that part of the city that you were looking out the window at! :)

Wow! You are in Mn! I love in a southern suburb, you picked a cold week to come!!

Reply

I live in MN! It’s super cold here today. Yikes. I hope you have a great time in our wonderful city!

Reply

I’m a Minnesotan, I live outstate. The Mill City Museum is so fun and interesting! I agree with the other commenter…why did they have you come in February??? In July I do a run through Minneapolis right past the museum and over the Stone Arch Bridge, always so hot and humid and best fun run!

Reply

I don’t think there is a day in my life that I haven’t used the snooze button. I’m an awful human being, but I accept it.

If Minneapolis only existed April – October, I would live there in a heartbeat. Such a great city and so many lakes and trails, etc. However, winter is the absolute worst.

Reply

I’m in Tx and it’s supposed to get up to 65 today! Did you see Usher dancing with the bee? Lol

Reply

I’d tell you our temps but they’re in Celcius and I have no idea how to convert it. I really should know how to by now! The best part of my Wednesday will be getting my colonoscopy OVER WITH so I can finally EAT SOMETHING. I’m grumpy.

Reply

I used to live in the Twin Cities! Had the most amazing burger at Travail once (in my meat-eating days). If you can make it to Punch Pizza, for the love of God, GO! Best pizza place I’ve ever been to. Stay warm!

Reply

It was only -18F this morning!! Woohoo!! Heat wave! LOL

I’ve been to Minneapolis…for a race…a half marathon…that ended up being in the middle of a mega heat wave and, the day before the race, they canceled it and made it into a 5 miler…I had flown over 1000 miles for this race…I was NOT impressed.

Reply

I’m in Indiana, so it’s cold, but not as cold as Minnesota! The best part of my Wednesday will probably be a delicious dinner and a beer–I have been so busy/stressed out lately, and my last homework set for awhile is due today, so I can relax!

Reply

So many great bloggers in one space! I am insanely jealous of your personalized Cheerio box. I love love cheerios.

Awww, love you all! Have a blast! :)

Reply

I live in Minneapolis! You were right by my apartment and favorite running spot :) I’m glad you like the area! Stay warm… it’s FREEZING out.

Reply

I did not hit snooze today! I got up & did a strength workout. The best day about today is that since it’s Ash Wednesday & I can’t eat meat we’ll be having Eggplant Lasagna for dinner that my incredible friend made homemade!!

Reply

Welcome to Minnesota!! I live about 2 hours straight west of the cities.

Hope you enjoy your visit–sorry about the cold weather :( Too bad you weren’t able to be here during one of our many ‘thaws’ we’ve had during the winter so far. Hope you found warm enough running gear, and that your bag arrives soon!

Reply

Okay, so let me first tell you that I HATE the cold more than anything, just can’t stand it! I really cannot understand people that actually ENJOY winter. That being said, Minneapolis is one of my fave cities–which means A LOT because did I mention I cannot stand the cold?

Also, MAJOR bonus is that it is one of the BEST places I have ever done a summer run–flat, crisp in the morning and not humid!

I looove Minnesota!! My cousin is getting married there this summer and I’m really looking forward to a road trip there from chicago :D

This is so fun! What a fun trip – I love Minneapolis and yes, it is painfully freezing! Have a great time!

Reply

Yep. Been there. I had almost everything but my shoes. I will scrimp on nearly everything (WHAT? They want HOW MUCH for peanut butter??) but lose my running shoes and I make four phone calls in Billings MT (hometown) to find the one store that has my size so I can walk in and throw down my cash without question as to the cost. Uh…yeah I need to run. Also, when you’re home visiting family is when you need to run the most. LOL (sorry)

Reply

I’m just south of you, In Iowa, and our windchill is in the negatives today. Today would’ve been a perfect day to stay curled up in a comforter. Hopefully the airline finds your suitcase soon!

Reply

This looks like such a fun trip!! Right now I am visiting family in Northern Utah, and it is much colder than Provo :( The best part of my Wednesday is going to be hanging out with my sweet mom and baby girl. I don’t get to see my mom nearly enough. I actually woke up before my alarm ever went off…the joys of having a one year old… *sigh* ;) And no I wouldn’t change it for the world :)

Reply

What fun you are with all those lovely bloggers exploring cereal world! Too bad about your bag though. Hope your cold run went well! :)

Reply

It’s about 20 degrees here which is sadly warmer than it has been.
The best part of my Wednesday is probably going to be my workout. Unless I get family snuggles on the couch, ’cause that’s just the absolute best:-)
I usually set my alarm for half an hour before I have to get up so I can hit snooze. Somehow I messed it up today though so my regular alarm didn’t go off, just my “oh no get out of bed NOW!” one did. Not my favorite way to start the day.

Reply

I could not wake up today. I hit snooze soooo many times! Its freezing here today

Reply

So sorry they lost your bag but the good thing is that you get to be there with great people. I follow the majority of those bloggers. Hope you continue to make the most of your trip. :)

I love Minneapolis! Fortunately I’ve been there a couple of times during the fall (FOOTBALL!!) and was able to run around the city and there is a park at the opposite end from the stadium. It’s a wonderful park and saw my first black squirrel there. Teehee
Have a blast!

Reply

We’ve hit some 40s the past few days but are back up to 60 today and 70s by the end of the week. I HATE cold weather. There is no way I could survive in Minnesota.

The best part of my Wednesday is definitely going to be when I get froyo later today. Obviously.

Hope the rest of the trip goes well!!

Looks like a great time so far! The temps here feel like -9, but thankfully I am headed out to CA this afternoon so maybe I will be able to feel my appendages again. I can’t wait to feel some warmth!

that cereal box is amazing!!!! yes, frame that forever. what a fun experience and opportunity!

It’s 70F here in So Cal today.
I lived in the Twin Cities for about 3-1/2 years. It was okay. I found the people friendly but not inclusive. Always got the vibe from people that if you didn’t grow up there you didn’t belong; because, “doesn’t everyone still hang out with their bestie from kindergarten?” Ummmm NO! Not when you grew up in Chicago, which I did. And, yes, I grew up in the city not a suburb. Specifically 2 miles from Wrigley Field.

Anyway, I was glad when hubs and I did a corporate relo to So. Cal. Been here almost 20 years and would never move back. The people here are friendly and since everyone is from somewhere else, they are very inclusive. Good people, great weather…can’t beat it.

Reply

Yay for Minnesota! I’m in Bloomington where the mall of America is. It’s seriously a great state to live in but come back in the summer, it’s so beautiful with all the lakes. Have a great stay.

Reply

You’re in Minnesota?!?! I’m in Minnesota! Just 6 hours north of where you are :) Yeah… today was not a good day to visit here… very cold!

It’s -7F right now with 14 mph winds and I don’t dare look up the wind chill. You should really come back sometime and run the Twin Cities Medtronic Marathon in October. MN is a gorgeous state but the winters can get a little long and… umm… frozen. What a fun trip to General Mills!

Reply

That sweatshirt is actually really cute! It looks so comfy!

Reply

Welcome to the “North”!

Minnesota is great; however, it’s days like today that make it so incredibly hard to run. Luckily, it’s Wednesday Beer Run at Milly City Running in NE, Minneapolis. Mill City Running is an incredibly legit running store. They have group runs 4-5 times a week.

Check em out while you are here!

Reply

Minnesota temps are pretty similar to mine in Michigan.. COLD! It’s only 3F right now with a windchill so hopefully no school tomorrow!

I’ve only been to the Twin Cities once but I loved it! I think I read somewhere that Minneapolis is one of the most “fit” cities to live in.

Reply

I am from MN and now live in NC. My sister works for General Mills and my family is still there and I visit…in the summer. Though I love winter running. You totally had to go get gear. Did hit snooze today usually not. Best part will be the treadmill run in an hour or so. Too icy to run outside today. :( Enjoy MN. It is great.

Reply

Enjoy your trip!! Besides the cold, it looks like an awesome time! It’s a lovely 15 degrees in Nebraska today, but at least it’s above zero! I’ve only been to Minnesota once, which is sad because I’m so close by, but I went to the Mall of America.

I’m never usually a snoozer, today I snoozed twice and even snoozed through my run. Guess it will have to be an afternoon run. I look forward to Wednesday every week because new episodes of Nashville are on! Obsessed.

Reply

It wouldn’t be nice to talk about the temp here today :)

I wish I could hit the snooze button!!

Highlight of my day is having a nice chat with my Dad on the phone :)

Reply

I did hit snooze on my alarm today and I skipped my run, which almost never happens. I just really needed the sleep lol.

Reply

I ALWAYS hit the snooze! It’s kind of my thing in the mornings. I know I should get up but it’s just so dang hard to get out of a nice warm bed. Esp with the weather we are having in the midwest. Your tour looked fun! And all that food makes me hungry!

Reply

First off, your hair looks gorgeous! Second, I hope everything works out with your luggage…that is the absolute worst. Regardless, enjoy your time in MN and I hope you get a run in sans running gear.

Welcome to MN! Are you really running outside when you’re here? This week is so cold. Hopefully it will warm up to 0° for an outside run soon. Snooze at least once in the morning.

Reply

Thank you Angel!! Oh, I was on the treadmill for sure! I hope it warms up for you guys asap!

Reply

It’s chilly here – we’re talking single digits tomorrow morning.

The best part of my Wednesday is going to be going to bed! I cleaned the whole house super quickly so someone could come look at it (we’re trying to sell it), and I’m super tired.

I am super guilty of hitting the snooze button. Those extra minutes of sleep are so satisfying!

Reply

Are you guys seriously this gorgeous in real life? Beautiful pics, and cool to see my favorite bloggers together!

Reply

It was cold today in Tampa at 54 degrees. Brr! ;) And yes, I hit snooze. I always hit snooze. I mean, that’s what it’s there for, right…?

I sometimes hit snooze. But since I had to be at work at 7 this morning it wasn’t a day I really could hit the snooze button.

How are you surviving with no clothes to change into?

But what were you doing in Minneapolis?

Make sure they hold to their promise of gluten free Cheerios (especially honey nut). This celiac sufferer about passed out with excitement with the recent announcement. I just hope they really do it.
