I could get used to this meal for breakfast.
Woke up at 10 a.m. (what happens when your two year old is gone and you get in at 2 a.m. the night before after driving all day) and made eggs with the girls. Megan whipped out her all time favorite candy in the world to share with us and wow, I don’t know how I lived without these sour/strawberry/christmas tree all my life.
We did the church thing and then the necessary Arizona stop. New Years Resolution #489 for me in 2015 is to cut back again.
Followed by cuddling up on the couch and watching some Hallmark Christmas movies. My other friend is without her kiddos this week too and so we pretty much don’t know what to do with ourselves besides catch up on sleep.
1.5 hour Sunday nap in the books.
I’ve got a few new delicious recipes for you to try.
First, the best roasted veggies.
Broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, mushrooms, sweet potatoes and squash.
Topped with olive oil and these four seasonings. Roasted at 450 degrees for about 25 minutes. Amazing.
The best fruit dip I have ever had:
A can of marshmallow cream, the juice of half of an orange and a box of cream cheese all whipped together. I can’t think of a better thing to go along with fruit.
Add the veggies and the fruit to some pesto chicken and potatoes and you have the perfect meal (and going back for 2nd and 3rds of everything is even better).
The theme of Christmas Break:
You really do need to try this Healthified Cinnamon Bun Cake. I think by now you can trust me when it comes to desserts so please trust me on this one.
After dinner we had some intense rounds of ping pong. I get just a little into games.
Followed by Telestrations and Megan’s family eating the worst candy on the planet, Good & Plenty. I just can’t understand
Time to start training for Boston—> Week 1 here I come!!! PS I will be getting my training plan any day now in my email inbox and I will definitely share more about the details of my training (still ironing it all out:)
———————————–
Making any resolutions for this next year? What are they?
Who else is going to be running Boston this year? When does your training officially start?
What sports did you play when you were in high school?
-Tennis. That is where I think my love for ping pong comes from.

Michele @ paleorunningmomma
I always roast my veggies at 450 too, they come out so crispy and delicious that way! Yay for training beginning for you! Excited!
Jennifer
I think I’m going to go for 4000 miles in 2015. I was so close this year…eek!
I’ll be in Boston! I have a 50k the first weekend of January and then my training starts.
I was a cheerleader which explains why I have zero competitive spirit in running:)
Amy @ They May be Light
Looks like you’re having a blast with your friends! I’m so glad for you!
In high school I was on the cheer team for awhile and the ballroom team.
New Years resolutions? Wake up at 5 am every school day. I just got called to be a seminary teacher so it’s a must.
Sarah @ KS Runner
I am so wildly uncoordinated that the only sports I did were track and cross country. My husband and I tried to take up tennis a couple years ago, it basically resulted in us hitting the ball once, then chasing it down.
I love roasted veggies but have never roasted zucchini, I will have to try that out!
Caitlin F.
I love ping pong; you look like you are having a blast!
I, too, am running the Boston Marathon and training officially begins today, but it’s a rest day. :). I can’t wait to follow your training. As for me, I hope to finish healthy and in under four hours.
The Hungry Runner Girl
WAHOOOO good luck with all of your training! Keep me updated with how it is going for you!
sally @ sweat out the small stuff
Drink.more.water! Find a new job.
I’m running the NJ Marathon 6 days after Boston….close enough? LOL!
I was on the track team for 1 semester but i was terribly slow so they had me run relays where the other 3 runners could make up for my slow leg. HA!
molly
I get MEAN at ping pong (think: Monica from friends)
I played volleyball in high school which is perhaps why I like ping pong too.
Good luck with the start of your training!
Hollie
Before looking in depth I thought that that was a pure protein giant shake LOL. I feel like a lot of people are running Boston this year! It’s crazy to think about.
Anyways my New Years resolution is to dress a bit older and not like I’m in college.
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes
New Years’ resolutions: spend more time with friends, find a job and move out to the Pacific Northwest, and eat less sweets!
I didn’t play any sports in high school. In college some friends tried to get me to join cross country but instead I taught Pilates.
Looking forward to reading about your Boston training!
Aimee
Where would you be moving from? PNW is beautiful (from here).
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes
My husband and I would be moving from Indiana, so it’d be a big (and welcome) change in scenery!
chelsea
My resolution is to finish my PhD- and no marathons until I do! I’m registered for a few halfs, but I won’t start training until the end of January.
I played field hockey in high school. I guess thats not really common outside of the northeast?
Good luck with your training! Heartbreak hill is nothing after training in hilly Utah.
Katie
I am running boston, too. I guess I better get a plan together. I am going to run a marathon three weeks before Boston, so I better start training! It was easier when I lived in Phoenix and trained for Boston. Looks like a lot of cold long runs in VA. It will be worth it in Boston.
I totally agree about Good & Plenty. Ick!!!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats
I played 2 seasons each of Field Hockey, Softball and Golf! Have a good Monday!
Kristina @ Blog About Running
Whoo! I’m so excited for you to start training for Boston!!
I have no idea about my new year’s resolutions for 2015! I’m running out of time!
Kaella On The Run
How did you make it through the week without Brooke? I’m newly separated and currently in the middle of my first 10 day stretch without my two year old and finding it so tough! I’m trying to keep busy, and distracted, but find myself crying a lot and missing him sooo much! We have never been apart this long (or really ever) before :(
Enjoy your trip with your girls!!
Daisy @ Fit Wanderlust Runner
Good luck on your Boston training. Here hoping it be injury and illness free! My New Year’s resolution is to do whatever makes me happy. And since travel and running make me happy I’ve decided I am going to do more races and more trips next year. I also would like to get better at this blogging thing. I really enjoy it.
Brenda @ Don't Lose the Trail
I was on the crew team in high school, but I only rowed for one season before I was relegated to the role of coxswain because I was too short/small to be a powerful rower.
This is week one of training for me too! For American River 50 over here :)
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles
I used to like Good & Plenty because I love black licorice. I get so excited when I get a black licorice jelly bean in my mix while I running! Most people don’t like the taste, I know. But I just love it.
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine
I’m so excited to follow along with your Boston training!
In high school I played field hockey and I was on the track team but only to stay in shape for field hockey. I never would have imagined how much I could eventually love to run!
Amy in MN
I’ll be running Boston; I started my training in November, though last week I was seriously side-tracked by influenza. Can’t wait to get back into it this week, though I’m still feeling pretty weak. I’m interested in following your training and to compare/contrast our coach’s plans for us. Stay healthy and have fun!
Kristen
Those veggies sound great!
I’m still ironing out my “theme” for the year. This year it was consistency, which I feel pretty good about. Something about aiming a little higher, excelling, that sort of thing…
I didn’t do any sports growing up. I ran a bit in high school but not on a team. I didn’t run my first 5k til I was in my 30’s.
Sarah
I’ve got so many new years resolutions! My word for the year is courage! I take my CPT test Friday and after passing that I’ll start being a personal trainer. Investing in yourself takes major courage!
In high school I played soccer, danced, ran track, and played softball. I liked to stay busy!
Can’t wait to see your Boston training plan!
Robyn @ Robyn's Living Life
My resolutions are to run a marathon (!) and send more cards via the pony mail for occasions. I am a big believer in adding things as resolutions instead of taking things away:)
I played soccer and swam growing up!
Rachel Runs Music City
My numero uno resolution is finishing a marathon! All my other goals kind of feed off of that.
I really want to run Boston someday, but my training plan for the Country Music Marathon started this last week!
I ran cross country in high school for one year. But overall I wasn’t really athletically inclined.
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
Roasted vegetables are my candy especially the Brussels sprouts kind. I spent a lt of time resting yesterday. My Mom has bronchitis so definitely a good time to hang on the couch and have movie day.
Traci
I use the Trader Joe’s 21 Salute Seasoning on my roasted veggies, too. In fact, I used it last night! I am not making any resolutions for 2015, but instead choosing a word to represent what I want to focus on for the year. My word is surrender.
Linda @ TheFitty
I run cross country and track on high school. Was never good at sports with handeye coordination!
Mary Jo @ Run and Smile
I wish I was running Boston. My main resolution is adding more yoga and meditation time. We shall see!
Caroline
I’m running Boston this year, too! I don’t think I’m going to start training for a couple weeks though, excited to see your training plan!
Bethany
Merry Christmas! My new years resolution is no more soda!!!! And to start running again! I have stopped and I need to get back in the groove of things!
I am also having 40% off my Etsy shop, take a look!!
https://www.etsy.com/shop/BCcrafts101?ref=search_shop_redirect
Nona @ RunningHigh
I don’t understand good and plenty either. Ick.
I played soccer and pole vaulted in track! It was ridiculously fun.
Kristen @ Glitter and Dust
Looks like you had a very relaxing weekend, once all of the driving was out of the way. Yay for week one of Boston training.
My resolution this year is to complete a full Ironman. Training begins this week!!! I couldn’t be more excited (and a little scared) to take on this journey!!!!
Growing up I played A LOT of soccer!
Natalie @ Never Serious Blog
Oh my goodness, I need to make that fruit dip ASAP.
I have a MILLION resolutions for this year. One million.
I did tennis and track in high school and was AWFUL at both, but oh well! #memories
Karin
I used to love playing volleyball but haven’t at all since high school. If I tried I feel like I would suck big time.
My New Year’s resolution is to get organized! I’m tired of running from one thing to the next and leaving things half finished because I don’t have a plan.
My other goal is a sub 2 hour half. I’m close! Aiming for the salt lake half in April.
Also: good and plenty shouldn’t even be categorized as candy. Blech.
Brooke@runningonchange
I played Lacrosse and soccer in High School and I loved it! My New Years resolution is to work on my mental toughness, I know it sounds a bit cheesy but it really is a weak point for me as soon as those hills come in a race I break down and tell myself I have to walk and then I let that be my excuse.
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West
I’m back in California after a week of fun in Florida with my family. I was definitely full the entire trip… so much good food! I’m not preparing for any races, but I’m back on my fitness routine today and planning to go hard in January. Happy Monday! :)
Nicole
We had the same fruit dip for the first time this year! Delicious. Glad you’ve had such a wonderful holiday:)
Maree
Wow – the roasted veggies look so good! Definitely going to be trying those!
My week training for my April half marathon started today – with a rest day! I’m liking this training plan….. lol :)
It will be my first half marathon since 1987 – I stopped running not long after that and didn’t start again until last year so I am looking forward to the challenge!
Happy New Year everyone – I hope it is a fabulous one!
xx
Kris @ Canadian Girl Runs.
That cinnamon bun cake looks delicious!
Christy
My New Year’s resolution: to quit cursing! Over time I picked up the habit working with only men in my office.
My husband surprised me with an entry to the Napa marathon for my birthday in 5 wks. Normally not a problem but after he purchased the entry I changed my mind about doing IVF. All exercise ceases on 1/24. Might be a game day decision!
Enjoy the rest of your trip~ It looks like you’re having a great time so far!
Becky @ Ok, so here's the plan
I’m trying to (yet again) do more cross training/strength training this year. I’m also going to be signing up for my first marathon! (eek!)
I ran track and cross country in high school – my hand-eye coordination is terrible, so I’m not awesome at other sports.
Pam
The Hallmark channel will put anyone to sleep. I started training for Boston last week….so exciting since I will be running with my big sister. She ran a marathon just so she could qualify and race with me…how awesome is that?
Kaci @ Running the Next Step
I was a dancer and on drill team in high school. Some people say those aren’t sports but they’re wrong ;-)
I’m working on a list of goals for 2015-not necessarily resolutions but things I want to accomplish.
Sarah
I ran track for a year, then HATED it and did not start running again until I was in college. I think the whole being told when/how far to run ruined it for me. But now running is my favorite, but on my time haha. After quitting track, I played lacrosse, which was tons of fun!
tess
Oh yeah. Good and Plenty. True lovers of candy know that just doesn’t qualify. So.wrong. :(
That meal looks so good and I’m just so hungry right now. I’m on it.
Courtney!
Goody & Plenty is the devil. The name itself is a psychological trap.
The Hungry Runner Girl
I completely agree with you.
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job
I played soccer and swam in high school, but have no desire to continue those in my adult years. Also I dont understand Good and Plenty’s. They’re so awful (to me). Looks like you had a great time!
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona
I was on the basketball team in junior high. While we weren’t very good, I remember having lots of fun at games.
Monica
I was a cheerleader and on the dance team in high school. I miss it, even 17 years later! (Oi…)
This cartoon of “eyes bigger than stomach” thing reminds me of that funny cake picture! http://www.pinterest.com/pin/181973641166387263/
Susan
Yes, I have two new year’s goals that my husband and I are doing together. First, we have to try one new restaurant per month (we get in a rut big time by always going to our favorite places) and second, we have to try one new recipe per month (it’s that rut thing that gets us when it comes to cooking). We are both pretty excited about it.
P.S . my husband gets really intense when he plays ping pong, too!
The Hungry Runner Girl
LOVE THESE RESOLUTIONS!!! Keep me updated on new and delicious recipes that you try!
Susan
yes — I will & hope you continue to post good ones, too! yay for trying new things :)
Amy @ Life to the Full
I played tennis and ice hockey in highschool!
My resolutions are in progress right now but I’m thinking I want to spend more time practicing the piano, be more disciplined to pray specifically for my husband and our kids every day, and take my time easing back into running after I have this baby!
P.S. Ping pong is a very intense sport!
rebecca
Sorry this is totally unpost related but you haven’t steered me wrong yet (Parenthood thank you very much and sweet potato with bbq sauce? Yup). I just finished reading Gone Girl (still have the heebe jeebies) and am looking for a new book to read
Suggestions?
The Hungry Runner Girl
This makes me SOOOOO happy! I think we would be good friends in real life. LOVED Gone Girl! Currently working on a reading list and will post it soon!
Aimee @ aim for healthy bites
Haha. Yes, cake can always be squeezed in! I’m feeling nervous and looking forward to starting my training next month for my first half marathon. Enjoy the rest of your trip.
Ally @ Homespun Runner
I am so uncoordinated with tennis or anything that requires me to hit a ball. One of my resolutions for 2015 is to get faster. I will be taking a running hiatus once I have the baby so when I am back at it I am going to focus on building a faster base – I’m pretty excited. I also want to run at least one half marathon in the fall.
I can’t wait to follow along your Boston Training. Someday I will make it there :) But until then I will live vicariously through everyone else.
christina
I make a similar fruit dip but instead of orange, I put half a can of crushed pineapple. So good!
The Hungry Runner Girl
I am totally going to have to try that! Thanks Christina!
Leigha @ The Yooper Girl
I’ve eaten so much food this Christmas, lol! I don’t know what I’m gonna do when there’s no leftovers just hanging out in the fridge! I love that world map!
Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties
WHOA I love that huge map wall behind the ping pong table! SO cool!
Elle @ The Clean Project
My resolution is 12 races in 12 months.
Annie R
I think my resolution for 2015 is going to be to try Spin! My gym has it, but I think it’s so intimidating. I need go just bite the bullet and go for it!
I’m not training for Boston this year and I am bummed. I’ve done it for the past 2 years, but since I’m local to Boston I’m excited to finally watch it!
I played soccer in high school. I didn’t get into running until senior year, and didn’t really get into races until well after college!
I also just have to tell you I got a ton of Bombas for Christmas this year and i LOVE them. I also ordered a pair of mid tops from bucketfeet. These, specifically: http://www.bucketfeet.com/index.php/women/pindoumidtop-women.html
VERY excited. Enjoy your vacation. I’m so relieved you’re still blogging even while you’re traveling :-)
Tricia @ A Couple of Dashes
OKAY… I must try that combination of seasonings on my veggies stat! It sounds delicious!
LeAnne @ This is my faster!
I danced in high school…never competitively though just for fun and performances. I would need to cut my pace by half before qualifying for Boston would even be a possibility. Luckily for me it’s not currently on my marathon bucket list so I’m fine with not running it. I can tell how excited you are to get started on your training and I really hope it goes well! I’m running in the Chicago Marathon in October 2015 and still working out the kinks of my training plan :)
Alisha @ Real Girl Running
I haven’t made any resolutions for the new year yet. I keep meaning to think about it, but for now I’m just happy enjoying my holidays :)
I played tennis and netball at school. I did a little running, and also (randomly) threw the discus. I actually played tennis at national level, so that took up most of my time.
Jenee
Making any resolutions for this next year? What are they?
Yep. Started a list and now it’s so long I’m beginning to wonder if it was a good idea. ;) My big ones are: Run faster, go back to (mostly) vegan, give up diet soda (again x 1,000), go on some vacations with hubs because we had none this year, volunteer a lot more.
Who else is going to be running Boston this year? When does your training officially start?
Not me. In my dreams, though.
What sports did you play when you were in high school?
Track and dance team.
Natalie
I’ll be in Boston! Stress fracture in my knee = can’t start training till late January, so I’ll have about 12 weeks to train (nervous).
Can’t wait to hear all about your training!
I ran cross country and long distance track in HS.
New Year’s resolution – MORE SLEEP. :)
Hannah
2015 New Year’s Resolution: 1000 miles. I managed 600 this year but they were really sporadic. So I want to make sure those are consistent miles. Oh and marathon training shall begin this summer after two halves this spring :-)
Nikki @ will run for pizza
Ooohhhh TJ’s 21 season salute is PERFECT for literally EVERYTHING! When I was cleaning out my spice cabinet (which I need a rack for so that I know what all I have!) I found 6 or 7 bottles in the cupboard. oops. Every time I go to TJ’s, I just buy one so we are never out! LOL
Jen
I golfed and played volleyball!!! :)
Tantra
I’m doing boston too! I started on Monday! I’m
Scared and excited all at once!!!!
I ran track, xcountry and played soccer one season
Kay
Mmm, roasted veggies are always a good choice!
Amy Barker
It would be a dream for me to run Boston. However, I cannot imagine even running a whole marathon! I cannot understand Good and Plenty’s either haha! I don’t like them!
That Christmas meal looks AMAZING!!! Yum!!
