NBD.  Struttin’ around the mall with her minnie bag.

Sandwiches.  I can’t stop.  I don’t know what it is about them that just make everything feel so right.

IMG 7759

Curly asked me to share a recipe that she recently created.  She makes it a few times a week—> Combine whatever cut up vegetables that are in my sister’s fridge with panko chicken (from costco), ranch and salt.

I can testify that it actually is quite a delicious recipe.

IMG 7847

Turns out Brooke is quite attentive to everything I do… I noticed this as she picked up my clarisonic to clean her face while I was doing her hair.

IMG 7737

We take our ice cream building very seriously.

IMG 7889

I like feeding my sister.  I like making big salads.  Combining the two is a great way to spend the evening.  I spy her little baby belly:)

IMG 7905

This morning’s run killed me off.  I think I may still be recovering from my 22 miler last week. Or maybe it was the hot weather?  I was planning on doing a mini speed workout but about .4 miles into the 6:45 pace I determined my new goal was to just finish the 8 miles alive.  I need to remember that this training cycle has been all about building up my endurance quickly for this marathon, it hasn’t been about speed.  I also need to remember how thankful I am for not being injured…  marathon training tends to injure me.

She is loving the horse that is as big as her that we won from the claw arcade game.

IMG 7944

I have started buying shirts based on whether or not they are good at hiding the daily chocolate stain I tend to get on myself.  This one does a great job at blending the chocolate in with the rest of the shirt.

Gotta love being away from your phone for a bit and coming back to 64 text messages from a group text.

Came across this pic the other day.  Remember when she was so little itty bitty?

We spend a good portion of the day researching our upcoming Disney trip.

I hope the rest of your Monday is a great one!

Are you currently working on your endurance or your speed?  Or both?

Ever seen an awesome costume at a race?  What was it?

Favorite place to get a sandwich?

Chocolate or vanilla ice cream?

-Vanilla… but if the option for a twist is available I will usually go for that.

Twist is the best but if I had to choose, I suppose I would go with vanilla! Or then again, maybe chocolate :)
Subway is by far my favorite place to grab a quick bite. I never tire of it! I could probably make something like it at home, but what is it about someone else making it that makes it tastes 100% better!?!

I’m so glad you enjoy which wich as much as I do. I miss that place and the sandwiches they make. There really isn’t anything like it. Curly’s salads are my type of salads. The more dressing the better.

Reply

I don’t think I’ve had a sandwich in years! Well, maybe a grilled cheese downtown once that was amazing.

Reply

I had my picture taken with a stormtrooper at a race expo…I loved it! I’m also a very big geek, haha.

I love vanilla/chocolate swirl froyo from costco. It’s awesome in a cup.

Reply

I love it when people run races in those giant mascot costumes – cracks me up.

Not a racer – but during the Around the Bay 30Km race in Hamilton – there is a guy that dresses like a Grim Reaper and greets the runners as the finish the last of several awful hills. He has been doing it for years!

Reply

Haha I love that you asked BOTH because I definitely am working on both. I’m just working on getting back in shape in general! It’s been a lazy & gluttonous summer for SURE.

Chocolate. ALWAYS. And I used to love a Quiznos sandwich but I thin they might be going out of business because I can never find one anymore!

It’s crazy because I DO remember when Brooke was that tiny, I remember when you found out you were pregnant, so cool to feel like I’ve been along for y’alls sweet journey too, that’s the power of this awesome blogging community!

Reply

Mmm Curly’s recipe sounds good! Well any recipe that has panko chicken in it sounds good to me!

Currently working on endurance with speed in the backseat. I want to finish this marathon next month, but after that I want to PR in the marathon ;)

Reply

I once was stuck in a group text and I WAS A WRONG NUMBER!!! I had no idea what these people were talking about and I couldn’t make it stop!!!

Reply

Chocolate icecream! I am currently just running however I want to run, fast or slow, long or short, and it’s kind of nice :)

Reply

I’m currently working on building my endurance from my injury. It’s tough and I maintained my fitness during my injury too. That group text quote is hilarious. I just joined a running blogging group in Phoenix & they’re constantly sending FB messages & chats all day. I need to shutoff the notifications because it’s overwhelming.

Reply

Lately I’ve been liking vanilla more than chocolate…. But there must be toppings!

Reply

The last race I participated in was a zombie one. Someone was dressed up as a zombie Alan from the Hangover movies, complete with a baby in a baby carrier on his chest. It was pretty awesome.

Reply

When are you going to Disneyland? I’m headed there with my two little girls in a little over two weeks!

Reply

Oh my gosh, that picture of you and itty bitty Brooke is my all time favorite. SO stinkin’ cute!!

When I did the Seattle Marathon last December, there was a guy running in a gingerbread man costume. How he did it, I don’t know. He was my hero.

Where do you put your phone/camera when you are running?

Reply

I’m putting most of my efforts into endurance, but I still do a weekly track workout.
I’m always amazed by costume runners. Don’t they chafe?!
I know it’s boring, but I love vanilla:)

Reply

Definitely working on endurance! In case you can’t tell by my blog title speed is a bit of a challenge for me ;)

I’m more of a chocolate ice cream girl but I haven’t found a brand of soy chocolate ice cream that I love so vanilla is my new “go to” flavor.

Reply

Hey that is me making my way around the turn around and Darth. Black shorts, bright neon tank…and yes brand new pure flows. I kept my eye out for you during the race and didn’t see you. No wonder! I needed to look over my shoulder. Ha

Reply

Oh my lanta … That photo of her with that crazy pony, too cute!! She is getting cuter every day I think. So glad your girl is back home with her momma! Stay positive about the speed – every day you are miserably hot running you can just think, at least all my muscles & joints are letting me be out here right now!! Good luck :)

Meant to comment this on your early post about Disney! Important things to eat at Disney:
Cake pops – Carthay Circle Theater – CA Adventure
Lobster Nachos – Ariel’s Grotto – CA Adventure
Greek Food – CA Adventure (by Goofy’s rollercoaster)

Clam chowder sourdough bread bowl – both CA and Disney

Bengal BBQ skewers and jalapeno cream cheese pretzel – Disney

Definitely my endurance. I have my first marathon next weekend aaaaaahhhh! At this point, all that matters is that I finish and in relatively good spirits. My longest training run was 22 miles. I am in taper right now but just caught a cold from my oldest son, which meant that I missed out on what would have been my last “long” run and that killed my confidence right now. Just have to maintain faith in what I have built up to.

Reply

I remember when that picture was new! It’s adorable. I’m loving reading about your training because I’m sidelined with a dumb hip stress fracture and can’t run the first marathon I signed up for next month. Poo.

Reply

One should always, always take the ice-cream building seriously. I’m always working on both endurance and speed – speed workouts kill me but there’s nothing better than the feeling of accomplishment you get when you’re rocked a speed workout.

Reply

I am working at endurance but at a little bit faster pace…but definitely endurance. I did an 8 mile progression tempo today!
Twist…always twist :)
Looking at Disney stuff is just so fun! We are trying Sea World for the first time this year!!!!

Reply

Currently working on endurance…. It’s driving me crazy being slower lately, but I am avoiding injury and building up distance so I have to remember that.
AND ice cream flavor allll depends: if I’m getting toppings, I go vanilla. If I’m going plain then chocolate :) Swirl is allllways good too!

Reply

I love sandwiches too! Something about ’em that just is mmmmm mmm good!

That pic of you and Brooke when she was itty bitty, too cute!!

Reply

Awwww I think I remember that picture of lil baby brooke doing abs with you! Seems SO long ago, haha!

Reply

I love going to Gandolfo’s to get a sandwich. They are super yummy :) I can’t wait until my little girl is old enough to go to Disneyland and really enjoy it :) You and Brooke will have so much fun. Right now I am not doing any speed work, just working on increasing my endurance.

Reply

Currently working on endurance! Training for my very first marathon *scared face*!! Vanilla all the way :)

Reply

I am currently working on my motivation. I have a half coming up in not very many weeks and zero desire to run!! :( I’ve been doing crossfit, so between that and school, I have not been super excited about running :/ BUT, reading your blog always gets me super excited for running adventures, so I’m sure I’ll come out of this funk soon! :) The best costume I’ve seen was a guy dressed up as Jesus hanging out around mile 14-16ish (or somewhere in there, all the miles get a little hazy at that point, HA!) of the LA marathon giving out high fives to the runners! :)

Reply

Oh eee she’s gonna love Disneyland! My in laws were there recently and it was very hot so make sure to bring her a shaded hat.
Love vanilla shakes from in and out now I want one…
Off to two soccer practices with my boys.

Reply

After Big Cottonwood just walking to my kids’ school is a workout–and very interesting. Ouch! So I consider myself lucky to have been able to get a slow but steady 45 minute treadmill run today.

Vanilla is you favorite? Really? Oh, man.

Reply

I love chocolate but when it comes to ice cream, I go vanilla. I will absolutely take a twist though! And oh, hate a group text. I refuse to be a part of them. My friends know better than to add me lol

Reply

Working on speed and endurance for an upcoming marathon…scared silly!
Soft serve ice cream? Chocolate. I agree, it stains clothing easily!
LOVE the picture of you and Brooke!

Reply

Too funny! That is my running partner running towards the turn around, she’s wearing the neon tank. And my husband running back on the other side, he’s wearing the white shirt and ugly orange beanie :). I was dragging a half mile behind. Love it.

Reply

That makes me so happy!!!! Congrats on your marathon!

Reply

Chocolate ice cream all the way – unless I can get a vanilla dipped cone, then it’s the best of both.
I’m working on both my speed and endurance for my upcoming half. I love the half distance for that – long enough to have to build up to the distance, but short enough to crank out some speed. And it’s been working- seeing lots of splits in the 7:xx’s on my Garmin!

Reply

The best costume I’ve seen at a race was a jellyfish complete with lights (it was a night race)-it was gorgeous. My favorite sandwich place is Penn Station, but it might be because of their fries ;). Chocolate-always chocolate. I worked at McD’s while in college and I got to be the queen of making a twirl cone.
In that picture of Curly-her face is breathtakingly beautiful.
That horse is so ugly it’s cute-lol!
Brooke is going to have SO much fun at Disney-it’s the perfect age. I can’t wait to read about it. When my son was her age we lived by Disneyland and I had a season pass for us two. SO. MUCH. FUN.

Reply

I’m a vanilla girl : ]
and I alwaysss get the best sandwiches at ROTHS. It’s a local grocery store with the best deli.
hmm.. and I’m working on a little of both.? Or survivng. was that an option.?

Cute black and gray pattern shorts btw.!

Reply

Your mention of buying shirts that hide your chocolate stains just had me cracking up lol.

Reply

I just ran a half-marathon this weekend where I told myself I wasn’t going to worry about my pace….WOMP. The marathon atmosphere always seems to take care of the speed part for you =).

Chocolate all the way. It’s actually a problem.

Reply

I’m working on both – training for my upcoming half marathon on thanksgiving day.

Publix makes the best subs!!

Reply

Currently endurance. Next training cycle will be about speed.

I saw Tarzan (I guess? It was a guy in a loin cloth. A very small one).

I am stuck on chocolate with brownie chunks right now. I usually go thru cycles on which I prefer though.

Reply

I’m definitely training for endurance! I’m pleased with my 8k speed but desperately want to run longer distances. My goal is a half marathon. Preferably a Disney one :)

Reply

Loved all the pictures! Especially itty-bitty Brooke stretching! Oh my goodness!

I’m working on endurance now. Definitely. And thankfully its getting cooler in New York City which makes running easier.

And usually vanilla. I love chocolate everything else, but for soft-serve ice cream I’ve recently started loving vanilla. Or twist.

Reply

Awe, tiny Brooke!

I am currently working on my speed! I have my endurance where it needs to be for my next race, now I just have to make sure I can really push my speed to hit my goal.

I have seen so many great costumes at races, and now I can’t think of a single one of them!

Vanilla ice cream! It leaves you open to so many more topping options. ;)

Reply

I’m currently buoying speed!!! I love being fast! And also, I just love sandwiches. They make my belly happy!!

Reply

I was wondering where you got your running skirt or shorts from the picture where you are laying on the ground? It’s super cute!

Reply

It’s so fluuuuuufffffffffyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!

Reply

There were so many great costumes in the NYC marathon…my fave was a Care Bear-full bear outfit!!

Reply

The Dallas marathon has “Dolly Parton hills” at mile 20. Every year guys line the street dressed up as Dolly Parton with huge balloons stuffed in their dresses, if you know what I mean. They balance water cups on their balloon chests for runners to take. it is hilarious!

Reply

Is that Wich wich (sp)? I was in Buffalo for the weekend and saw my first one and SO regretted not being able to try it!

Reply

That side-by-side pic of you guys doing abs when she was just a baby kills me, so freaking cute!

Reply

Ice cream, sandwiches, and Clarisonic. So many things that I love all in one post!

Reply

Well currently I am not doing either…just enjoying the miles I log in. Don’t start training until November for my next race. Here in Fresno, CA there is a delicious sandwich spot I like to go to (Deli Delicious). Always fresh and they add bacon to just about every type of sandwich…#winning

Reply

I saw a Stitch costume at the Disney World half marathon and was so excited! Stitch is my favorite Disney character, so I had to wait in line for a sweaty running picture with him!

Reply

Brooke with the horse is so unbelievably cute! :)

Reply

I was working on my speed until my injury, now 6 weeks later I am back to working on my endurance. lol! I have to laugh about it because if I don’t, then I cry haha!

My sisters and I have a group chat and I wake up to a ton of messages in the morning ha! Cutest little picture of Brooke copying you!

Reply

I am a plain ice cream person, vanilla for me!

Reply

Eh.. I’m working on a slightly combinated version of endurance and speed.. as far as costumes, nothing stellar around here, though my younger brother and I did the Warrior Dash in May and there was a group of guys in daisy dukes, knee high socks, and crop tops.. so that was entertaining, for me at least.

I LOVE the grilled chicken and cheddar from Potbelly!! With a little bit of mayo and their sunflower oil mixed together… oh man.. now I want one..

OH… and you should try the Bolthouse Farms yogurt ranch dressing! Tastes like restaurant ranch which seems to always taste better than any kind I have in my fridge. Same with the Simple ranch in the small short fat bottle.. so good!!!

Reply

I’ve recently been working on speed. With this nice crisp autumnal (is that a word?!) weather, I’ve been enjoying Saturday track workouts focusing on short bursts of speed!

Reply

I love that baby picture of Brooke. I am so excited for your sister.

Reply

I’m currently trying to just keep moving. Definitely not for speed at the moment.

Reply

The group text thing is really intense. It happened to me a lot over the summer! Best costumes I’ve ever seen at a race: Elvis and Jesus in the same race. And they were both unbelievably fast!

Vanilla is good, but I love vanilla base with lots of fun things mixed in, like peanut butter cups, chocolate and/or peanut butter, and nuts. Mmmmmmm.

Taking a few weeks off from running. I have a non-running-related injury but working with PT to get back out there as soon as possible. Hoping to run the Philly Half in November.

Reply

Favorite place to get a sandwich? – Quiznos. They’ve all shut down around here in the last few years but I LOVED the veggie sub there. Sooo good.

Chocolate or vanilla ice cream? – Vanilla, but only because you can add stuff to it easier. :)

Reply

you need to post a pic of Brooke/Curly at the same age side by side, they look so much alike, no?
Love that pic of you and her in your matching shorts, sooo adorable!!

I am a bit behind in my half training. So for now, I dont care about speed, I need to get the miles in. So I will hit the dreadmill during lunch breaks and longer runs on the weekends. (will try to incorporate speed work on the treadmills though!)

Reply

What a nice day!

Reply

Brook looks like that little girl from Despicable Me where she has that big unicorn – ITS SO FLUFFYYYYYYYY

Reply

Baby Brooke was SO teeney tiny! So cute! I’m glad she likes her new gigantic horse!

I am not a fan of ice cream, I know, I’m strange.

I am working hard on my endurance. I have lots of marathons coming up in 2015…about 1 every month .

All sandwiches are just delicious. I love subway!

Reply

I am a newbie with running. I must admit that endurance is the one which I should have focus more on. Chocolate or vanilla? Chocolate all the way for me.
