10 Friday Favorites!

10 of my favorite things lately:

1.  Jess and I were 33 seconds faster per mile on our trail run yesterday compared to doing the exact same route/distance last Saturday.  We also felt better and stronger for the entire run.  The beauty of running = we get to see our progress!

2.  I adore combat boots and so to find a black pair that I love for $35 at Target… I was happy.  You can find them HERE!

3.  This song.  I know I have told you about it before but I can’t stop listening to it.  I tell myself just one more time and then I end up turning it on repeat.

4.  This picture.  Pure happiness.

IMG 6014

5.  I think a side of sweet potato fries should be a requirement with a salad.

IMG 6182

6. THIS food pyramid for runners.  Love the donut to miles ratio.

NewImage

7.  Park City.  I am ready to go back already.

IMG 2895

8.  Saw this on Instagram yesterday and I think these tips are right on:)

IMG 6166

9.  Gotta love starting with an empty kitchen and buying all of Costco to fill it up.  PS my favorite purchase of the entire trip was my new Shark vacuum… you know you are cool when vacuum cleaners make you really happy.

IMG 6170

10.  After moving everything over to my new place and when we were on the way to Costco my sister and I made a pit stop and ate our 12” of chicken sandwich goodness in 3 minutes flat.

PS for those of you that asked my sister is due on February 5th!

We are all moved in and had a great first night.  In less than 12 hours of living here I locked us out of the apartment, someday I will figure out how to not do that.

I don’t mind grocery shopping but putting all of it away is terrible! My husband and I have actually gotten in fights over this part of the shopping. I might even equate it with the last 2 miles of a long run, almost there, and once it’s done then you can start eating a bunch of good stuff :)

I’ve been known to just put the sweet potato fries right on the salad. Yum!

The donut ratio is funny, although I don’t eat them anymore! There was a time when a good pumpkin chai latte had a 1:1 with miles run for me. Now it’s healthy stuff mostly. Lots of it, but healthy :)

That is hands down THE most accurate runners food pyramid I’ve ever seen IN MY LIFEEE. That was just hysterical.

I looove to grocery shop! I do it really early in the morning on Saturdays or Sundays and I do it alone and it’s like my weekly “me” time.

I saw those boots at Target last week and I had to resist, but now I’m thinking I need to go back and just bite the bullet, cause that’s a GREAT deal!

Reply

Aw I love that first pic on the trail with the sun :) And I love grocery shopping! At the top of my food pyramid lately has been cottage cheese… is that weird? (I think i need to eat more donuts :) )

Reply

Forgot to say this in my earlier comment, but I totally agree that seeing improvement in your training run times is awesome and is a huge motivator! I just have trouble with getting too discouraged when my times are slower due to tired legs/body, bad weather, or any other number of factors. Glad you’re running faster and keeping motivated!

Reply

YAY!! So so so happy you are all moved in, I am sure the place is amazing! So happy for you guys!

I love grocery shopping :)

Reply

Glad your move is over! Hope you guys settle in soon! :)

Favorite grocery store is Meijer but where I live now I have to go to Giant Eagle and I hate it! You will love the shark I have one and use it daily (2 dogs aka tons of hair). Lol at the lockout been there many many times

Reply

I love that food pyramid! That is pretty accurate, although I would add a section all for pineapple. I love that stuff!

I like grocery shopping when I have the money to buy whatever I want…….on those cutting it close paychecks there is no room for treats or fancy spinach so those are kinda boring trips! I like Target and Publix best.

Congrats on your new place!

Reply

I love grocery shopping just not when I’m hungry because then I tend to go way over budget!

I am loving fit fusion since I am taking a few days of running it helps me find other activities to get me nice and sweaty!

You should download “All About That Bass” it’s silly but catchy! It’s a “run-dance” type of song ;)

Have a great weekend!!

Reply

Are you allowed to change the lock if you give them a key for it? I used to lock myself out of our house ALL the time and my husband put a key-code lock on it, so now I just have to punch in a combination and I’m in! (And it still works with keys, too.) Best thing ever!

Reply

Trader Joe’s, enough said. :)

Reply

That food guide is so accurate! However I fuel myself with fats instead of carbs and some lean protein too :)

Reply

Hi Janae!!
Some of my favorite things lately are…. quality running clothing/socks that I need to begin owning soon due to those skin ailments that come along with upping mileage!
My food guide pyramid is definitely made up of too much somekindoffriedpotato+ranch dressing
I happen to love grocery shopping normally. I have only been to costco once but I kind of love it… especially the gigantic bags of broccoli I can buy that are already cut up :)
Also, I would love it if you did an ‘apartment tour’ post once you get everything set up how you like it!
Have a great day!

Fav. Things? Right now I am into chocolate rice cakes topped with PB topped with banana topped with chia seeds for a pre-run. OMG! So good. I am also into everything smoothie. everything. I am also loving the runs in the rain!
Shopping? I used to hate grocery shopping, but since I started going to Trader Joe’s, and other health food stores (With GF/DF stuff, since I am intolerant to both), I LOVE IT! Trader Joe’s = Best. Store. Ever.

Reply

Congrats on the new apartment!

Reply

that food pyramid is hilarious.

Reply

I absolutely hate grocery shopping!!!!! I just want all if the food I need to appear in my apartment… That would be so nice!!
Trader joes is my favorite store, but I do love Costco!!!!

Reply

I don’t mind grocery shopping unless its really crowded! I try to go early in the morning on the weekends before everyone else goes. One of the things that drives me crazy is having to wait in line at the deli or meat counter. I feel like its such a waste of time!
Also, I love having sweet potato fried on the side when I’m eating salad. I feel like it balances out the meal plus I can never choose just one thing to order!

Reply

Nice job on the faster run! You rock.

Yeah, I would say that is about the most precious picture of Brooke! Just a doll.

I am loving my new Garmin swim! I finally know how far I go and it pushes me to go just a bit farther/faster each time.

Yay for February babies. I am on the 15th and I love having a birthday during the month of love. I am excited for your family–what a blessing.

Reply

Some of my fav things lately include: naps (because I go back to work next week and will miss them!), Gone Girl (the book), and rotisserie chicken salads :)

Whether I like grocery shopping totally depends on my mood. Sometimes yes, sometimes not so much. Costco is by far my fav though.

Reply

I’ve been enjoying my reef flip flops and rainbow flip flops for good arch support. Mac mascara for long eye lashes…that’s the most random comment I think I’ve left you…but it’s what I’m enjoying. The running nutrition from RW made me LOL a lot.

Reply

AHHHHHHHHHH #7, ME TOO!!!

I must have thought a couple of times yesterday “last week at this time”
I will be putting SLC on my fare watch today! (You think I am joking, doing it in………… 3, 2, 1)

Reply

LOVE that chart from runners world. :)

Reply

Congrats on your new place! I’m SO HAPPY for you and Brooke. :-)

Yes, to sweet potato fries and I really want to see Utah in person soon!

Reply

My food pyramid consists of pizza, potatoes (fried, mashed, roasted, whatever) and wine. Many a long runs were fueled by that combo ;).

I’m a weirdo and actually LOVE grocery shopping. We typically go to Trader Joe’s and I immediately run to the free sample station.

Reply

I’m not a huge fan of grocery shopping. I do it once a week but not really by choice, lol. I shop at Aldi the most because of their cheap prices but very good quality food! It’s crazy how home things make me so much happier to buy now, haha. Who am i!

Reply

So excited for you and Brooke to be all moved in, such a great feeling, isn’t it? My food pyramid always includes oatmeal, peanut butter, lots of fruit, sweet potatoes, tons of avocado and lots of desserts.

Reply

Great post! Love the fountain picture. Yes, pure happiness :)

Reply

Congrats to your sister! I am due 1/29! Enjoy your apartment…always fun decorating and buying all the things lol!

Reply

Congrats to you too Melissa! So exciting! Have an awesome weekend!

Reply

Thanks so much! :)

Reply

That food pyramid is absolutely perfect. Brooke looks so happy in that picture! Perfect. :)

I LOVE grocery shopping. Costco and Whole Foods (Costco more) are the best stores to shop at. I get truly excited to go grocery shopping.

Reply

In reference to #8: I once twisted my ankle because I turned to check out the hot guy that just passed me going the other way. I was mortified and kept running, trying to look cool. I ended up doing more damage. And I think hot guy saw the whole thing.

Reply

OH MY GOODNESS!! That is awful.. but I guarantee I would have done the same thing!

Reply

My FAVORITE thing lately is my new AudioFlood iPod shuffle, which allows me to listen to music while swimming. It has changed my world.

My food pyramid would have a lot of avocado – I put it on everything.

I am horrible at grocery shopping. It’s not the actual shopping itself but the fact that I will spend half the day in the store trying to figure out what I need. My husband does most of the shopping because he does most of the cooking.

Congrats to your sister!

Reply

My sister is also due on Feb. 5th!

Reply

can’t wait to see pictures of the new apartment!! such a fun new beginning for you and brooke!

i am now craving subway. it is 830 am.

Reply

Yay for your nnew apartment! I love ordering fries with a salad. It’s all about balance. Haha

Reply

Congrats on your new apartment :) that’s exciting

Reply

YAY for the new apartment! I half hate shopping for a new apartment (SOOO MANY THINGS TO BUY) and half love it (SO MANY THINGS TO BUY!) haha

Reply

Love those boots from Target.. don’t think I could pull them off though. And I love to grocery shop. Its quiet time for myself, and I would much rather spend money on food than on clothes or anything else really. I love Publix and Whole Foods, but we don’t have either in my town, so getting to go to those stores is a treat!

Reply

I love to vacuum. It’s a task that leads to completion and you get instant gratification. My disturbed OCD head loves it.

Nice job on the lock out. :)

I think Brooke is pure happiness. How do you keep from taking a million photos of her?

Reply

That must be exciting to be on your own now after living with your parents. What does Brooke think of the new place?

Reply

Congratulations on the move, I’m sure your new place looks fabulous!!

Reply

Salad + fries..it just makes sense.

Reply

Okay I really need a pair of combat boots! I really want to get se
Brown ones, so I think I need to just look for those this fall lol. An I’m that photo of Brooke, so so so adorable!!! Grocery shopping is a love affair for me lol not kidding, I just love it!

Reply

I definitely love grocery shopping. I could go every day and spend hours in there. i know it is crazy but I think I could live there and be perfectly fine. Hahah.

I’m loving cold food lately. It is so hot that even if I cook my food I will let it cool down or put it some minutes in the freezer ( I tend to be so hungry I can’t wait!!) and then eat it. :)

Reply

I actually love grocery shopping and meal planning. Sprouts is my favorite store. Quality products lik Whole Foods at TJ prices. This week I’m loving the Stairmaster. I’m finally turned a corner on my foot recovery and this machine is getting my legs strong!

#8.

YAS honey, YAS!

I had me a good L-O-L at that one, J! No wonder your so speedy! (0:

I love grocery shopping. Like, LOOOOVVVEE it. Too much. It’s a shopping addiction. Other Ladies head to Nordstrom and I go to Whole Foods. And Publix.

Cinnamon Almond Protein Cheerios! So so so good!!!

Congrats on your new apartment!!!!
My birthday is Feb. 6th, one day after your sister is due date.
Don´t like grocery shopping and sweet potato fries is a must with a salad.
And I just signed up for my first marathon (scared to death).
Have a great weekend :0)

Reply

love grocery store shopping before everyone in my house wakes up…everything is fully stocked there is NO ONE in the store but me and I am alone and don’t have a little with me to make grocery store shopping more difficult than it needs to be.

I love my Shark Vacuum! You’ll love it too!

Reply

Congrats on moving in! I hate grocery shopping and meal planning. As soon as a rich distant relative leaves me all their money, I will be hiring a personal chef.
I love the shark vacuum, that is the one I have and it’s great!

Reply

You must be so happy the move is over. I find moving to be so stressful. Unpacking too. It is such a relief when it is done. I LOVE grocery shopping. Maybe because that used to be something my mom and I did together all the time – I would specifically not schedule classes on Thursday mornings when my mom grocery shopped so that I could go with her. The fun usually ends when the bill is over $150. I’m not sure what my favorite store is, I usually go to Giant and Costco. I do like the interesting foods I find at Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, and Roots (organic store), but I try not to go there too often because it ends up costing so much money.

At the top of my food pyramid right now would be fruit – specifically grapes and blueberries. And chips and salsa.

Reply

Hahaha, that’s a great food pyramid! My food pyramid would involve a lot of rice, potatoes, roasted vegetables, and all.the.fruit.

Grocery shopping is one of my favorite hobbies. It’s relaxing in a weird way? And this might sound a little trashy, but my favorite is Winco. Super inexpensive but lots of good quality food, and the best bulk bin section ever!

Loving that this weekend I get to see my brother! He’ll be getting back from deployment and I have missed him so much!! So thankful that he’s safe and will be home soon. :)

Have a great weekend and enjoy your new home!!

Reply

I love peanut butter, bran crisp bread, tiger nuts, brown top millet flakes, soy yogurt lately. (when in the US I am addicted to coconut yogurt)
I´m also addicted to dark chocolate and steamed veggies and the combination of avocado and canned tuna with cream style corn.

I´d love to add fruit and cheese, but I am fructose and lactose intolerant… :(

Reply

PS: grocery shopping in the US is something I really enjoy, but here in Austria it can be frustrating… also when I am with my mum, who just rushes through without thinking what she puts in her basket…

Reply

That food pyramid is awesome!! I love to go grocery shopping…and make the grocery list. Costco is overwhelming to me though! :)

Congrats on getting all moved in to your new apartment!

Reply

How exciting is a new apartment!
And I loved the running tips. Haha!

What are some of your favorite things lately? – Natural beauty tricks. I’ve put olive oil on my hair (for dry scalp), honey on my face (for break outs), and coconut oil on my legs (instead of lotion). I love the idea that everything we need, even nowadays, can be found in nature. I have yet to figure out of it’s actually true.

What is your food guide pyramid made of?
Cherries, chocolate, my son’s goldfish crackers when he’s not looking, grassfed beef, and sometimes veggies. ;)

Grocery shopping—> love, impartial or dislike? Favorite grocery store?

LOVE. I guess I’ve been “cool” for a long time, because when my hubs and I were first dating, we would have so much fun in the grocery store. I guess we’re the same kind of cool/weird. Now that I’m a mom, it’s a security thing. I like the feeling of abundance I get after buying all the things.

Reply

yay for new places and new beginnings! glad you stocked up and i dream of a new vacuum so i can appreciate your excitement! what a sweet picture of brooke-so happy!

Reply

I noticed Target is getting a lot of their fall shoes in … YAY for boots! I love combat boots too. And for 35 bucks?! Can’t beat that!

I love grocery shopping at Costco and Trader Joe’s! The other regular grocery stores are just OK. It also helps when Hunter is in a great mood and/or Cody is with me. Tantrums in grocery stores = NO fun. ;)

Reply

That food pyramid is hilarious!!!!

Reply

I loooove grocery shopping! It’s like one of my favorite things to do haha. Yeah that makes me sound like such a nerd! Anywayyy… The Shark vaccuum is exciting! Those things are awesome. And yay for your new apt! Boo for locking yourself out. I’d totally do that, too. The donut to miles ratio is awesome. And true, right? Right. ;)

Those running tips are perfect!
I love to go grocery shopping! I go to trader joes for specialties, and just any old one for the regular purchases. I’m going to have to find a new one to go to when I move!

Reply

It’s funny that you wrote the pic of Brooke is pure happiness because I totally thought the same thing about the top pic of you on the trail!!! :)

I can’t believe you locked yourself out of the apt. already, that is totally something I would do!! One time I locked myself out of a rental car on a cross country road trip, lol!!

Reply

Congrats on the new place… Moving in to a new place give you a fresh new start!

Reply

I love grocery shopping when it’s at Costco… yay free samples!!

Reply

I LOVE grocery shopping and could do it for hours. That being said, I enjoy TJ’s, Whole Foods, and farmer’s markets the best. We have reading terminal market here in Philly and it is a magical food land where I could spend many a happy day.

Reply

Love grocery shopping! Now that I’ve been to TJ’s and Whole Foods it will be so hard to go back to walmart!

Reply

welp last night my fave things were dirty martinis so today my fave thing is my BED. congrats on new apartment and sis being pregnant! :)

Reply

When I first moved from NH to Los Angeles, I locked myself out of the apartment while my roomies were out to eat. I had to wait hours in soaking wet clothes for them to return. My food pyramid looks like peanut butter, Ritz crackers and cool whip! That’s my dream pyramid at least!

Reply

Congrats on being all moved in! And I couldn’t help but laugh about already locking yourself out — speaking my language there!

Reply

I actually like grocery shopping — it’s fun to stroll around and look for new delicious things to eat!

Reply

Congrats again on the new place, so happy for you and Brooke!

Knew you would love the runner tips! I was thinking of YOU and Monica from RER when I found that!

Happy weekend! <3

Reply

My favorite thing lately is when my son says bye and waves with his hand facing towards him :)

My food guide pyramid would be equal veggie to fruit ratio, a small meat section, and a fairly large dairy section. Oh and cereal gets it’s own section. Or rather, it’s own pyramid. It’s just that amazing.

I love grocery shopping. I want to buy everything.

Reply

I love me some Kate Nash. I absolutely can’t stand grocery shopping. I wait until we have nothing left to eat in the house before I go.

Reply

So cool about your sissy! Hope she’s feeling good.
Hope we can get a sneak peak of your new place…I wish I had a running partner to trail run with.

Reply

That food pyramid!! Hilarious & perfect.

Congrats on the new place!!! yay!!

Reply

I love the food pyramid :) Huge congrats on the 33 seconds faster – that’s amazing :D And that picture of Brooke at the Splash Pad is frameworthy :D

Reply

I loooooove grocery shopping!!! It’s one of my favorite activities.

Can’t wait to see pics of the new place!

Reply

Ha! I love that food pyramid! The last one is actually sadly close to mine. I really try to eat well, but slip into the cheesy triangle area way too often. I actually ate a cheese and bean quesadilla every single night for dinner for 2 years straight at one point, and only stopped because I figured it was time to grow up (I still am not sick of them and could eat one every single day). Also, normally my diet is 90% carbs.

I hate grocery shopping, but hate it slightly less at Publix and Trader Joe’s.

My favorite thing all week (which I wrote about in a post so I’m being redundant) was the video of Genevieve LaCaze, an Australian steeplechaser who was a teammate of mine in college, stagebombing Kylie Minogue at the Commonwealth Games. It just made my week.

Have a great weekend in your new place!

Reply

Thanks for the lead on the combat boots – I really want a pair, and those are adorable!

Reply

Aww that’s my birthday! What an awesome day to be born!

Reply

Love that picture of Brooke! She is too cute. Congrats on finally moving in. Keep a spare house key somewhere safe in your car (and your car keys and house keys separate). That has worked for me in the past ;)
Happy Friday!

Reply

I love Costco shopping. And that Kate Nash song is great. Thanks for sharing!

Reply

I just picked up those boots from Target and I’m in love!!!!! They are so cute and comfy!!! Thanks for the recommendation :))

Reply

Favorite things lately: the smell of a newborn baby and chocolate (not necessarily together).

Grocery shopping: love it when I’m hungry, hate it when I’d rather nap.

My food pyramid lately has a bottom layer heavy on peaches and watermelon. I love summer food.

Reply

Yay! I am so glad that you are in your new apartment! My little family is moving into our new apartment tomorrow :)

Reply

Such a cute pic of your daughter. Love the food pyramid. Mine has mostly veggies and carbs. Can’t go without the carbs!

Reply

Like grocery shopping, probably because we eat a lot in my house! fave store was Publix but we just moved so i have been doing a lot of Fred Meyer and like it a lot so far! Also LOVE Trader Joes

My food pyramid contains a base of ice cream and chocolate, and that is really all that matters to me!

Reply

My sister is due Feb 5 too!! Seems to be a popular due date!

Reply

Congrats on your move! My food pyramid consists of lots of pasta, Nutella, kale, avocado, and ice cream. A mix of all things.

Reply

I bought those boots last year in black and LOVE them! They are soooo comfortable!

Reply

Ugh no thanks to grocery shopping. My dear hubby-to-be started doing some of it lately with me doing a ton of the wedding prep, and that has been the BEST! I wonder how long I can get away with that!

Reply

Favorite thing lately: my current book “It Starts with Food”, getting super excited about my Whole30 starting Monday! I’m off running for a few days, maybe a week, with a strained hip flexor, so I’ve got to be excited about something else!

I thoroughly enjoy grocery shopping, especially when I get to do it kid-free with no time crunch – though that doesn’t happen very often! Haha!! Even with the kids in tow I still like it – I’m a list person and I get such satisfaction from checking things off my list :)

Have fun setting up the new digs!! How FUN!!

Reply

Congrats on the new apartment!
And congrats to your sister! I am also pregnant and we are due 2 days apart. Your news made me smile. :)

Reply

Congrats to you!!!! Hope you are feeling great!

Reply

I love new vacuums! Is that weird? I’ve been having a soup thing lately. I don’t know why and it happens more in the winter then summer but I’ve been to Soup Kitchen to stock up!

Reply

Brilliant food pyramid! “Whatever is closest or fastest or ice cream” — def made me chuckle out loud!

Reply

My food pyramid consists of: peanut butter sandwiches, bagels, chicken tenders and beers. It’s covered all of the bases, right?

Oh, and sweet potato fries. I think it could be a side for just about every meal.

Reply

so excited for your new apartment! When is Brooke’s birthday? I was thinking it was the beginning of August.

Reply

I don’t mind grocery shopping but it’s a whole other ball game with a baby now. I was due February 5th this year and had my boy at 12:01 am on the 9th. 6 months flew by I’ll tell ya!

Reply

Yay for new apartments! I can’t believe how big/grown up Brooke has gotten!

I loooove Kate Nash! :)
