This workout killed me off and I came across a gem.

I spent time with one of my oldest and dearest friends this morning—> the treadmill.  From the years of 24-27ish I am pretty sure I only ran on the treadmill unless I was actually running a race.  I love running outside the most but I also don’t mind the treadmill that much and so I decided to take it indoors today.

2 miles @ 7:54 pace

10 minutes on the spin bike (mainly climbing a hill out of the saddle because that is when I feel the burn the most when using a spin bike)

2 miles @ 7:40 pace

10 minutes rowing machine (that thing never gets easier)

1 mile @ 7:30

Afterwards I stretched for a long time because this workout killed me off.   I think I worked out for a total of 60 minutes all of last week so it felt good to get in a good, sweaty workout today.  I love workouts like this one because it is fun to switch things up and as I am building back up my mileage and endurance again I will be including a bunch of cross-training.

All of the sudden Brooke’s hair is going curly?!  We got to see Paige for the first time in way too long and hang out in the kiddie pool.

A few people asked about fruit and my 21 days of craziness that I am starting…  I WILL BE EATING LOADS OF FRUIT.  I am not doing any sort of cleanse or cutting out all sugar, I am just wanting to get out of the habit of eating treats/candy/dessert all of the time so those are the things I will be cutting out.

Sweet potato, chicken with avocado and carrots (cooked in the crockpot because I think my parents would disown me if I turned on the oven when it is this hot).

IMG 5661

I am very mad at anyone and everyone that I hung out with over the last few weeks that didn’t tell me about the hole on my backend in my favorite pair of jeans ever.  I guess this is what happens when you wear the same pair of pants 4-5 times a week for over a year now.  Off to go get a patch because I am not letting go off these pants just yet, when you find YOUR pair of jeans you just have to stick with them as long as possible.

If you are looking for an inspirational runner (who keeps things real) then you need to check out Caisa!  Her quote today on instagram was exactly what I needed to read.

And I am positive I couldn’t push a triple stroller for more than a block…  and she is pregnant with baby #4!

PPS I came across this gem last night.  I don’t remember how this happened but I remember it hurting.

I’m pretty sure Brooke has better hair than me at this point!
I need that triple stroller! I haven’t run with my kids since baby #3 came because I only have a double. Talk about a workout!!
I haven’t been on the treadmill in over a month because it’s upstairs in our house and it’s waaaaay too hot up there. I’m itching to get back on it though…I’ve had my dear old friend for almost 15 years now!!

How do you keep yourself from getting bored on the treadmill? I find myself counting down the minutes until I can get off. I’m also really bad about people watching and I don’t want people to think I’m staring at them. I prefer to be outside where the time seems to pass more quickly. Is this something that just gets better with time?

Reply

I LOVE PEOPLE WATCHING while I run on the treadmill at the gym ha. I just watch tv or bring my iPad to read while I run:) If you prefer running outside though keep doing that!

Reply

I don’t mind the treadmill, especially in the summer when it’s too hot to run during my son’s mid-day nap. I find it helps make me faster. I actually training for the NYC Half almost exclusively on the treadmill because it was winter and cold/icy outside! :)

Curly hair which I straighten… sigh! Ha Ha!

Have a great day :)

Reply

I think the last time I used the treadmill was when it was icy out….so its been months! I only use the treadmill when I absolutely can’t run outside.
My hair is kind of curly but not the good kind of curls where you just let it curl and you’re done. Its kind of straight on top so its just gets all frizzy when I try to wear it curly, but its also a pain to straighten it so I just can’t win!
Lunch today was the only thing I could find in my kitchen…I made burgers with sweet potato fries and then finally made it to the grocery store this afternoon:)

Reply

I have actually only used a treadmill a handful of times! I haven’t used one at all this summer.

Lunch was broccoli and other mixed veggies scrambled with egg whites! Yummy!

I have CURLY hair! Kind of like Brooke’s :)

Reply

There is nothing better than a pair of Hudson jeans. period.

Reply

I shook my head yes and said ‘amen’ as I read your comment.

Curly hair! Read the curly girl handbook to learn how to make her curls shine!

I am totally addicted to sugar. I don’t know if I’m brave enough to try and quit!

Reply

I have an exercise bike and I use that almost every day- with a new baby, it’s the best way I can ensure I get some good cardio in!!! I also love going outside and walking with him, of course, too. I was just on vacation and the hotel had the most glorious gym ever with loads of treadmills! It was heavenly.

In TX I HAVE to use my treadmill, sometimes it’s 100+ deg and 80%+ humidity!! — only my Nordi is squeaking more than usual :( And I wanted to get a NordicTrac service rep out to check on it but apparently I have to register the SN online which I cannot find lol I still have all these stickers on it from Sears Outlet where I bought it but no clue what the SN is!

For lunch I had an Amy’s organic Black Bean tamale lunch, ate in about 5min flat at my desk so busy! Wished I had had time to make a salad this AM lol

My hair is whatever it wants to be lol curly in humidity or if it air dries, but straight/wavy with a blow dryer.

Reply

I have been using the treadmill! I have been splitting up my long runs between the treadmill and outside bc it’s so hot out I might die if I do the whole thing out there! :) So far this combo is working nicely for me… although last weekend the a/c in my gym was out so it was hotter in there than outside!

Reply

I have ridiculously curly/frizzy hair, but wish I had straight hair. Life would be much easier. I’m about to get the thigh-rub hole in my jeans. I’m just going to patch them and keep going I think.
Good luck with no sugar/candy, etc. I’m one who just can’t give it all up.

Reply

My son’s hair was so cute with those little curls until he was three and it went straight like mine…I haven’t been on the treadmill easily since March. I really should hop back on so I don’t freak when winter comes and I dread it again.

Reply

Lol – the jean thing is something that would totally happen to me.

I have naturally curly hair so I’m partial! I straighten it to teach but when I go for runs in ends up curling up before I get home from all the FL heat & humidity.

Reply

Ha…I actually threw a hissy fit today (at myself) because I just could not face the treadmill today. The thought made my eyes cross so I found some random workoit online. Im gonna try the one you posted tomorrow!

Boring salad for lunch & I have wavy hair but in the back it is tight curls…weird.

I remember when you first posted that last pic! Haha you were trying to do some kind of flippy twirl I think???

Reply

You are toooooo kind! Glad to know you… Hope to see you soon. Thanks!!!!

Reply

I just wanted to say that I actually laughed out loud when I saw that last picture!:)

Reply

Those hudson jeans were also my favorite! Mine ripped across the knee :( they had the perfect amount of stretchiness..not too loose, not too tight. They don’t make them anymore either. bummer!

Reply

that is THE best picture of sisters playing on the monkey bars!!!!

My hair is massively indecisive, it’s wavy/curly at the ends when I let it air dry but usually goes pretty straightish when I brush it. It just can’t make up it’s mind! That workout sounds like an awesome way to mix up cardio, I’ve been wanting to try out the rowing machine lately.

Reply

I actually love the treadmill! My orthopedist recommended that I continue using it, because it is easier on my body. I do try to get in at least one run a week outside. I’m looking forward to my vacation in 3 weeks, because I run short distances (5 miles) almost every day outside at the beach!

My hair is pin straight except for one small part on the side near the back that is wavy. I blame pregnancy! :). It was never like that before.

Lunch today was a Cafe Rio salad (no rice or tortilla).

Reply

All my jeans (by jeans I mean leggings because…LOLZ the last time I wore jeans was maybe a year ago) get holes there. I always want to just patch it up. I’m glad to see you running again Janae and enjoy your evening.

Reply

I have definitely been using the treadmill for workouts like the one stated in your post! I use it once to twice per week.

Today I had some casserole made of GF corn noodles and meat-laden spaghetti sauce w/ sautéed mushrooms and caramelized onions. (Good description, eh?) Finished that off with a fruit salad of grapes, strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries. (Told my mom about the fruit salad. All I heard back from her was the “fruit salad: yummy, yummy!” tune. Guess what is stuck in Hannah’s head.)

My hair is straight as a bamboo stick.

Reply

Yay! So glad you’re back in the running groove again. I bet it feels so good!

I LOVE that quote you shared from IG. I really, really needed that today. I’m way too hard on myself at times. It needs to stop pronto.

I have wavy/curly-ish hair, but it never naturally dries perfect so I have to help it out with a curling iron if I want it curly. Basically I always have to either curl it or straighten it if I want to wear it down — I guess it’s kind of bittersweet.

Reply

Haha, I just played on some uneven bars over the summer and it about did me in ;)
I have been using the dreadmill this summer, but purely because I have to due to the hubs being out of town and 100+ degree weather. I definitely have a love/hate relationship with it.
Lunch today was a CFA grilled chicken sandwich, yummy!
I have this weird combination of partially straight and sometimes curly. It’s mostly curly in the back underneath on the bottom layer. It’s so weird and annoying!

Reply

No treadmill for me
Pin straight hair…but one of my daughters has curly hair and they both had Shirley Temple curly hair when they were little
Peanut butter sandwich with an apple and goldfish (the crackers) for lunch
I used to love flipping around on those things when I was younger :)

Straight straight straight hair!

Between my husband’s Ironman training and the heat this summer (heat index was 115 degrees today) the treadmill has been a lifesaver! I use it at least once a week but sometimes 2-3 times. I had a delicious curry and rice for lunch that my mother in law made. My hair is somewhere I’m between the two. Not really curly but parts of it are wavy… It’s weird. I can’t believe how long Brooke’s hair is! It’s beautiful!

Reply

I’ve been hitting the trails this summer (as I do every summer), and not hitting the treadmill as much as I used to.
My hair is naturally straight, but the bottom of my hair is still wavy from a digital perm. Love Brooke’s hair! It’s so long now!

Reply

I should do the miles combination you did! Lots of cardio, but different types of cardio, now that’s training smart.

unfortunately I think I’ll have to foreshadow that fruit thing…I highly doubt your sugar cravings will go away with lots of fruit. The best way to go is low glycemic index, or even better, keto.

Good luck, I salute you though!

Soooo, I love the treadmill. And I REALLY love my gym. So when it’s this hot out, I basically do all of my running on the TM with the exception of long runs. That workout sounds fun! And hard. How do you take a month off and stil run so fast? You’re my hero. My speed is lost so quickly.

Reply

What are these jeans you speak of? Hudson. I must Google. And apparently I live under a rock.

Reply

I cannot do treadmills at all! I get noted and being outside just relaxes me. I can’t remember honestly the last time I was on one. Even if I am traveling, I will opt for the elliptical and weights over a treadmill.

Reply

No treadmill for me! Don’t own one, and don’t have a gym membership. It’s no biggie, though, because I can’t even run because of my posterior tib issue. :/

I had apple, PB, ciabatta bread (nommm), and 2 HB eggs for lunch. Not the best, but it worked haha.

My hair is naturally wavy, and really big. Aka poofy. I’m the only one of the girls in my family with hair like this (got if from my dad’s side), and they love to tease me about it!

Just thought I’d put this comment up for you to see and anyone else who happens to read lots of comments like I do :)
In thinking about not eating dessert/treats, I thought I’d share an awesome recipe that I found on Pinterest that has helped me eat less dessert/sweet treats.
Energy balls-
1 cup dry oatmeal
1/2 cup DARK chocolate chips
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup ground flaxseed
1/3 cup honey
1 tsp vanilla
Mix/combine/stir all of the above together in a bowl. Then form into balls and put in another dish to chill.
I keep these in my fridge and eat 3 or 4 for a snack. This helps my sweet tooth and keeps me from other sugary things.
They taste great!!! And I’d like to think they ARE healthy and give energy. :)

Reply

YUM those sound so good!!!

Reply

I have not used my treadmill at all this summer. Outside runs for me!

For lunch I had pretzels and peanut butter. A lot of them. :)

My hair is wavy and super frizzy. So I usually keep it in a bun or ponytail.

Reply

My hair is super curly. I love the picture of Brooke with her curly hair down…her hair is almost always up in pictures and I love seeing it down- it’s so long!!
I am ok on the treadmill as long as I have loud (fast) music. Usually I only use it once a week at most. I like your workout idea though- I will have to try that sometime!!!

Reply

Hahahahah that picture, oh my gosh!

I am not a fan of the treadmill, however, I AM a fan of the fact that it allows me to run before work because it is too dark outside for me to do so otherwise on the weekdays :)

I’m in the straight hair club too. I only wish it would hold a curl for the life of me!

Reply

That hole…lol is in a precarious location that one might have to be staring at it hard for them to notice. So let’s give your friends the benefit of the doubt that they didn’t see it. Otherwise put it back on and take a picture so we can judge if it’s noticeable or not ;).

Now if there was spinach in your teeth for a couple of weeks and no one told you, then you have a legitimate gripe…but then again that in itself would mean something far worse is going on with your personal hygiene…I kid J, I kid :)

Reply

I have yet to jump on the treadmill yet this summer – so boring, but with this heat, I may have to do it!

Reply

I have been on the treadmill a little bit this summer, but not a lot. I will most likely be running on the treadmill a whole lot more when the cold weather starts to come. Dang Utah winters ;) My hair has a lot of natural wave to it, but not the cute beach wave. It is more like my finger got stuck in an outlet type of wave ha!

Reply

I haven’t been spending that much time on the treadmill but I know when the winter months get here I will be!
For lunch I had good ole’ grilled cheese (w chips and a pickle). I’m babysitting 6 yr olds so I had to have their kind of lunch! It was kind of great and reminded me of my childhood :)

OMG – Brooke’s hair! So precious! And holy cow, I am motivated. A 33 week pregnant woman pushing a triple stroller for two miles? I guarantee I couldn’t even walk it that far, I’m so impressed!

I had a Jimmy John’s BLT unwich with avocado which was actually AMAZAZING. I love bacon based things.

Reply

I have curly hair but I straighten it almost every single day. I guess we always want what we don’t have right?

Reply

The treadmill saved me from the ice and snow this winter and has been saving me from the heat this summer! I’m probably on it 3-4 times a week, and I really don’t mind it. Though, I do have netflix to keep me company.

I had baked ziti at lunch today, I work with kiddos and that’s what our food service made them today. It was ok.

My hair used to be really thick and curly at the ends, in high school it went pretty straight. It still has a bit of a wave to it when it air dries.

Reply

I hate the dreadmill, my hair is straight except for one spot..and it a ringlet

Reply

Janae, will you be working with a coach again? You were doing so well last year with one.
I’m not much of a runner, but I use the treadmill for intervals after my workouts. Got to keep up with cardio.
I had Hookipa salad at Tokyo Joe’s for lunch – best salmon salad I’ve ever had.
My hair could not be any straighter. I do not understand why curly haired people waste time straightening their hair.

Reply

I’m just impressed that you wear jeans that often! I live in athletic wear. :) I haven’t hung out with my treadmill (“Treddy”) in a while–I’m trying to get the most out of the summer after such a brutal winter. I had things from the Whole Foods cold bar for lunch–greek quinoa salad and falafel. It was amazing!

CURLY HAIR all the way. I have curly hair, and I love it.

I haven’t been on a treadmill since February. I love running outside and breathing in as much fresh air as possible. Lunch was a mishmash of things around the kitchen. Love when that happens.

I love love love that you mentioned Caisa! She is amazing! Great person! Great mom! Great runner! I’ve known Caisa since 8th grade, and she’s awesome!!!

I actually went on the treadmill, first time in like 2 years, it felt weird not being outside! My hair is wavy/curly normally but if I leave it down to dry, it will go straight, so weird!! Brooke’s hair looks so cute curly :)

Reply

That workout sounds insane! You should be proud that you polished that off. I have been active straight since high school (I played on multiple sports teams) and have been doing a lot of running the past couple years and I don’t know if I could do that! Going to jot it down and try to tackle it on a day I’m feeling extra energetic.

Teriyaki chicken sandwich on sourdough at Padaro Beach Grill in Carpenteria, it was heavenly.

I’m “blessed” with a combination of curly, wavy, with random chunks of straight, frizzy hair. I now get it chemically straightened once a year to keep it manageable. So now it’s straight, but wavy/loose curls is my fantasy hair… think Kate Beckinsale :)

Just came across your site and love it! I have used these guys to fix my very nearest and dearest pair of Citizens’, and have to highly recommend them! Basically made my jeans good as new:

I love workouts like those! I’ve been using the treadmill quite a bit lately with temperatures in the 100’s. Pretty much by 8:00am!

Omgosh u r hilarious! Hopefully you had cute panties on lol
You on the bar reminded me when I was playing America ninja warrior with my boys thinking no one was at the park. Then I saw a guy staring at me from his house. Glad I’m not the only one who does that!

My True Religion jeans ripped last night AT WORK! (I serve at a restaurant) and I told the bartender exactly what you just said–I was like no way am I letting these babies go, get me some darn paisley patterned patches!

Great jeans rip alike. Right? Right.

I actually really enjoy the treadmill sometimes. I think for me it makes a difference knowing I don’t HAVE to run on it, I’m just deciding to – it never really gets treacherous enough in Ireland to not be able to run outside if you can put up with rain! We get a lot of rain but not a lot of snow (which does send me inside) or that hot of summers so I usually can run outside but sometimes I go for a treadmill break and I actually really enjoy it. Cos like… watching movies while you run = awesome!

My hair was always absolutely poker straight… but for some reason now that I’m 20, since my last haircut it’s started to go a bit wavy! Not sure what’s going on but I’m not complaining :P

Reply

I usually run on the treadmill Monday-Thursday because I get home late-ish/it’s still hot out. It’s definitely not my favorite, but it’s better than not running at all!

My hair is wavy – some days it’s curlier, some days it’s straighter…just depends on the humidity!

Reply

No treadmill for me this summer! Not yet at least…

I usually have a big salad with crispy salmon and tons of various veggies. There’s usually an avocado in there somewhere :)

Reply

My hair is between straight and curly…. But it’s not pretty waves. It’s like frizzy, ugly, proof ball hair….
Lunch is always the same for me. I’m very OCD and love routine… Veggies with hummus, almonds, and an apple. It may sound boring, but I love it! And the routine makes me happy!
I have only used the treadmill once this summer. I used it all winter though. Your workout sounds super intense! I’m fairly tempted to try it out!

Reply

I’ve been running on the treadmill once or twice a week. I love it for intervals since I don’t use a Garmin.
Today’s lunch will be leftover Paleo Pad Thai (yum!).
Curly. Very fine and very curly. My hair requires more product than anyone (even stylists) will believe.

Reply

That looks like all my jeans after a few months of wearing them constantly, except mine rubs in the left inner thigh. I’ve never had to throw out jeans for any other reason and it’s always hard to let go of the good ones.
I am not a treadmiller! Street, park, trail, backwoods, around the block. Anything once it’s outside. I reserve the mill for the too-cold, too-icy days although the pics on this old blog post show that I’d still rather run outside even then. http://runwright.net/2014/02/05/what-it-takes-to-runwalk-8-49-miles-in-the-snow/

Reply

Haha I love that last photo! I’m trying to get back into treadmill running, thanks for the inspiration!

Reply

I use the treadmill usually once a week. I do 3 runs a week, so I can get a long run in not the weekend, a short one in before or after work one day, but my mid-mileage run usually calls for the treadmill. It make me nervous to run in the dark before work so I feel safer on the tready.

Reply

I will do treadmill runs if it’s too hot/humid or if I have to run after my boys are asleep. I have one in my basement and either watch the tv with closed caption on so I can listen to my iPod too, or I will watch hulu plus/amazon prime shows on the iPad. I don’t usually run more than 5-6 miles on the treadmill though.

Yesterday’s lunch was the raspberry and lemon curd greek yogurt with granola from starbucks. Love it!

I have straight hair…but since having being pregnant/having kids it does have a little wave to it if I let it air dry and/or use products for curly hair.

Reply

Brooke’s hair looks so cute curly! Growing up I had wavy hair, and hair that would hold a perm like nobody’s business. When I was in grade 11 I went on a week long school trip to Quebec, going from a very dry climate to quite a humid one, and my hair curled right up, and stayed that way when I got home. Then, I got married and had 3 miscarriages – my hair got straighter with each one. Then I had 3 successful pregnancies, and while I was pregnant my hair grew straight, but after the baby was born it grew in curlier than it was before. I’m curious to see what happens once I hit menopause (now that I’m finished having my babies).

This photo is hilarious. My hair is super curly but I straighten it half the time to control the frizz! I primarily run on the treadmill during the summer to beat the Alabama heat (running with temps over 100 is not appealing to me at all).

Reply

You are just soo darn cute!

First, I love running on a treadmill. It is actually my preference and what I do 90% of the time.

Second, curly definitely is #1. Although straight on occassions shakes things up!

Love your blog! Jenny

I’m 100% of the time running on the treadmill right now. I live in Las Vegas… temps are in the 100’s each day. And I’m a Canadian girl… sooooo…. yeah.

If Brookes roots are growing in curly than she will have curly hair. If her roots are straight and her ends are curling up she will have straight hair (possibly wavy). You really need to look at the root to see. Chances are good when you cut the curls off she will have straight hair. Sorry just the hairdresser in me :)

DENIM THERAPY!!!! Look them up! I have used them to repair several holes in my favorite jeans!!! They will fix the hole and you will never know!!!

I do treadmill running twice a week. The first run is a shorter more challenging pace and the second is super challenging intervals. I usually count down the minutes also but running with my running partner helps me to become a bit competitive which means I stay on longer, LOL! We’ve watched Frozen on her iPad and sang along or I play the Contemporary Christian station on Pandora. I love my long outside runs on Saturday mornings!! I remind myself that my treadmill runs help me prepare for my outside runs.

My kiddos have straight hair that curls at the ends. Someone asked me if I curled my daughter’s hair and I should have said “the good Lord did for me!” I have thick, straight/wavy/kinda frizzy hair which I straighten or do beachy waves.

I wear my jeans to the end also. Why mess with a good thing?

Love your blog!!

New reader and thoroughly enjoying your blog.
Only use the “dread mill” in the winter when it’s too icy to run outside.
I’m on vacation this week, so we’re not talking about what I’m eating. Shhhhh….
As for hair, curly, curly, curly. If you haven’t check out the “rake and shake” method. I use it with product I just pick up at the grocery store, but it makes a huge difference.
Happy running!
