The opposite of my normal Saturday morning long run.

The first thing that I really think you should do this morning is vote for NYCRunningMama HERE to be on the cover of Runner’s World.  This woman is so inspiring and beyond incredible!

Saturday has always been my day to get in a long run or an awesome workout at the gym.  I was planning on going to the gym to a pump class but when I woke up I was missing Brookers (I know, I have issues.. it will get easier eventually) and the last thing I wanted to do was work out, so I didn’t.  Instead I finished off the last little bit of my shake from the night before (I slept in big time so it wasn’t that early;) and then did what I know always makes me feel better—>  Target.

This did kind of make my morning a lot better… My FAVORITE powder and bronzer were buy one get one free.  I stocked up for the year.

It is also my tradition to get something cute for Brooke every time that she is away (partly because I get excited for her to wear it and also because taking her shopping has gotten a little difficult these days).

2T, how the heck is she almost 2 years old?

IMG 4805

A smoothie is just kind of necessary on a hot summer day.

IMG 4781

And dinner at one of my absolute favorites.

IMG 4782

Salad bar life lesson for you= add cucumbers to the edge of your plate to add 2 inches to the circumference of your plate which allows you to add more veggies.  You are welcome.

IMG 4784

And hiding behind the breadsticks.  Completely normal.

IMG 4791

It was too nice of a night to not spend it outside so we went to the park to watch random baseball games and pretend like we knew the teams that were playing.  Followed by a photo shoot of course.

IMG 4806

And to finish off the night I split (I have come a long way in sharing my food) my Milky Way while watching Wicker Park (aka the movie that my roommates in college and I watched four trillion times together because we had a crush on Josh Hartnett).  Back to lower sugar foods today…

NYCMama has my vote! Rock on.

Anyways I love physicians formula bronzer and blush. I generally buy them when they have some sort of deal like that too. I use MAC mascara and Elizabeth Arden foundation and that’s really all I use.

Seeing your salad reminds me I should probably eat some greens today to make up for all the junk I’ve had the last couple of days.

Reply

That top was at Target that you got for Brooke? J’adore. The Peanut needs one like whoa. Hope hope hope they have in 4T. (How is the Peanut 3?!?!?!?!?)

Reply

Saturdays are my long run days, too, but I’m still in recovery so yesterday was more of a “take the dog for a walk, pack up your car with your stuff from housesitting, unpack your car when you get home, oh wow it’s hot, this totally counts as a workout” situation. In a non-air-conditioned condo that is unused to 90+ degree heat, even my physical therapy exercises felt like a workout!

My super favorite candy bars are Twix bars. I pick them out of every candy pack that includes them. Sorry, trick-or-treaters. It’s not happening.

Do you guys have Ulta in Utah? I buy most of my makeup there! They have both “prestige” brands and drug store brands, so it’s nice to comparison shop. I’m a huge fan of Bare Escentuals and Benefit Cosmetics.

And the world’s best movie? 10 Things I Hate About You. It’s how I fell in love with Heath Ledger in sixth grade. Plus it was filmed in Seattle and Tacoma, so it’s fun to recognize places where scenes occurred. I’m actually on my way to Gasworks Park to volunteer for a race, which is where they filmed the paintball scene between Kat and Patrick. :)

Happy Sunday! I hope Brooke comes home today, and if not today, then surely tomorrow!

Reply

And apparently I need to write my own blog post today because good gracious, this was a long comment.

Reply

LOL. But I liked it. Thanks. And who didn’t love Heath Ledger?

Reply

When the late great Heath Ledger passed away, I had no fewer than 10 voicemails on my phone breaking the news. He was my favorite. :(

Reply

I love Benefit cosmetics & Ulta! I swear by their mascara and brow wiz. Don’t know how I survived without it before.

Reply

Ooh! Which mascara do you use? I just stocked up on They’re Real Mascara and Gimme Brow. :) The important things!

Reply

Ha! To wicker park and Josh Hartnett, brings back some memories. I don’t think being away from your child is ever really easy…I don’t have the same situation but really can’t imagine ever not missing my kids when they’re gone, especially so young. But sounds like you took care of yourself the best you could yesterday and wound up having a nice day! My girls are 7 and 5 and I sometimes cry a little when i pass the baby section of target! They grow up so incredibly fast it’s actually frightening.

Reply

i’m a big fan of paydays, but it’s a shame that they don’t include chocolate. i also love baby ruths, but again — lacking enough peanuts! thus i combine them both in a bowl of ice cream for the real deal.

Reply

Oh my goodness, we have the same issues. I love payday but it could use a little chocolate and baby Ruth a little more nut in the ratio. I haven’t tried combining them yet but I will now! Genius! And with ice cream too. You should get a prize for this.

Reply

Okay. Idea, here. Bear with me. Take a Payday and DIP IT IN CHOCOLATE. Million dollar idea?

Reply

Yes to a long run on the weekends! Mine is usually Sunday. I’m not sure about today though. I’m sore from yesterday’s spin class and strength training. I may take it easy and do swimming later. I’m still recovering from my injury. It’s hard for me not to push myself but I know I need to be careful. B

Reply

My favorite candy bar is Snickers……..and Peanut Butter Snickers!

I have watched Napoleon Dynamite a gabillion times. It is flippin’ sweet every time. Gosh!

I don’t have a favorite makeup brand, I just kinda buy what is on sale. And today will be my long run so hopefully 10 miles!

Reply

Sounds like you did all the right things to comfort yourself! Target has the cutest kids’ clothes!

Reply

I typically use Saturday mornings for my long runs. The local running group sponsors training runs every week to prepare for the next half marathon. Favorite candy bar is a milky way too! Love caramel and chocolate together.

Reply

I love your shirt…where is it from?

Reply

Refrigerated peanut butter cups. And Drumline…ok and pitch perfect.

Reply

We watched Big last night (totally an all-time fave) while eating chocolate chip blondies with peanut butter cups baked inside which I made…perfect night (which included sushi for dinner)…

Reply

I LOVE long run Saturdays–especially when there is a gorgeous trail to take and go forever on!

Reply

Nothing wrong with skipping the workout – especially to go to Target :)

Love the little chambray for Brooke. Looks like a mini shirt you have!

My all-time favorite candy bar is probably twix, or almond joys…kinda weird, I know.

I’ve watched The Notebook and A Walk to Remember more times than I want to admit.

I buy my make-up at Target or CVS, and my fave brand is probably Almay, but I’m not super picky! Cute packaging usually gets me :)

Day that I typically get my long run in is Saturday or Sunday. Yesterday I was going to do 8 miles but settled for 6.2. And I’m okay with that.

Hope you’re having a great weekend! You’ll see Brooke soon :)

Reply

Sundays are my long runways, but I am being lazy and still laying in bed with the family. Need to get up…

I love Snickers and Peanut Butter Cups. Chocolate and PB make me happy!

I don’t wear make-up. When I do it is blush and mascara from Bare Escentuals and Bobbi Brown.

My favorite movies are Dirty Dancing and Pretty Woman, I know them by heart.

I hope your day passes quickly and Brooke is back home!

Reply

I could watch The Devil Wears Prada a million times. I show it in my careers class, so I know I at least watch it 3-4 times a year.

I also like to watch Gilmore girls – although that isn’t a movie

I like Physicians formula too – otherwise I mostly use sephora products

Reply

So weeeeeird. I was thinking about Wicker Park recently! I think this is a sign I should go watch it! Target Canada would never have buy one, get one free. Yet another reason why I need to move to the states!

Reply

SNICKERS!!

I could watch What Happens in Vegas once a week. I’ve actually never seen Wicker Park!!

I usually only wear mascara (like cake it on), and I buy whichever is on sale! I don’t think I’ve ever bought expensive make up. I’ve been eyeing that powder before, so now that its BOGO and HRG-approved I may have to make a Target run myself ;)

Reply

I usually get my long run in on Thursday or Saturday- just depends if in working Saturday or not. I really wish I like candy bars but I just am not a huge candy person. My crutch is ice cream.
And it will get easier. I used to save all my errands for when my kids were with their dad. Be grateful she can go with her dad. She is a part of both him and you and for her to be confident as she grows up with who she is she will need to know both of you. My kids lost their father and I wish every day that he was still here for them to spend time with.

Reply

I love NYC running mam. She’s so hardcore! I never used to be much a candy bar girl but since moving to china I eat a lot of snickers since its the only chocolate available

Reply

Reeses Peanut Butter Cups are my jam! I do my long runs on Saturday, get my makeup at Sephora and I love the movie To Kill A Mockingbird. It’s a classic.

Reply

Voted!! I love her!

Peanut butter cups are my favourite. Makeup from Sephoa or Mac.

I run Saturday before my son wakes up or during naptime.

And I watch Pitch Perfect A LOT!!

Reply

Not to be creepy, but it makes me SUPER happy to see man legs in your pictures. Good for you, girl!

Reply

I second the man legs! ;)

Reply

HAHAH thanks girls. I like you two:)

Reply

May I third the man legs?!?! ;)

Reply

Yeah, I thought those are some hairy legs, Janae!! Lol! Good for you!

Reply

I’ll fourth or fifth that! xxx

Reply

Same here!

Reply

Saturday is definitely my best work out. And yesterday it was! Felt so good!
Favorite candy (not really a bar) is Reeses. The.Best!
Brooke is so lucky. I wish my mom bought me clothes every time I was away from her ;)

Reply

I don’t care for candy bars, but I will take any flavor or any kind of chips and demolish a family sized bag every time!
It would be a tie between Beauty and the Beast or Now and Then for the movie. Love them both. A couple years ago for Christmas I ordered DVD copies of Now and Then for my sisters for Christmas.
Love working out in early morning. Went for a run this morning at 6am with my sister and my dog. It was awesome :)

Reply

1 – Twix
2- Captain America
2 – I buy at Target because I am cheap and I work there, but my all time favorite brand is MAC Cosmetics.

Reply

I also had the worlds biggest crush on josh hartnett!!!!! What happened to him??? He should come back into our lives hahaha!!!! Your cucumber trick is pretty amazing as well!

Reply

Favorite candy bar – definitely Kit Kat bars. I have to be so careful around those. I have watched Singing In the Rain more times than I can county – I love the oldies!! Make up I love both Physicians Formula (I’m about to speed to my Target to see if they are on sale there too!) and Bare Minerals (but that can get pricey!) Best workout day is usually Saturday, but this week it was actually Sunday since I wasn’t feeling to hot Saturday. Normally I can’t get in a full workout before church though!

Reply

I always try to do a good hard speed workout on Wednesday or Thursday, and then Sunday is my long run!

I love all candy bars but this week my fave is Reese’s :)

Reply

Being away from your kids is always hard. My youngest is 17 and in Thailand and through no fault of his own things have not gone well. I cut my trip short so I could come back and try and get him back early. Second guessing all my choices from every step of the way. Kids are hard. Good thing we love them.

Favorite movie…I don’t have one but I do love Robert Redford/Brad Pitt in Spy Game. That is SO good.

I use gluten free/cruelty free products so they tend to get pricey. I shop at Sephora a lot.

Sorry you were sad.

Reply

Thank you thank you thank you for taking that picture at Target! I am so going there tomorrow. Physicians formula is my life.
Also that is the best salad bar hack ever! I bet you didn’t know this post would be so incredibly helpful for my life right now haha.
Do peanut M&M’s count? Because they are the best.
I have seen 500 Days of Summer MANY times. Just trying to be supportive of my future husband.
Have a wonderful Sunday!

Reply

I had Reese’s Sticks recently, and they were incredible. Otherwise, I only like fun-size candies.

My sister and I like to watch Garden State again whenever we are back in the same place.

Reply

I’m so sorry I will selfishly not vote for Michele because I entered the contest too! (http://covercontest.runnersworld.com/entry/350/) But I did read her profile and she is really freaking impressive, what a badass!

I almost always do long runs on Saturday mornings. I just love getting it done first thing and then having the whole day to revel in my tired bliss. Also, I’m usually too tired on Fridays to do anything at night so I’m usually up early on Saturday.

Milky Ways are the jam, I don’t blame you one bit!

I have watched Wayne’s World about a bajilion times, and I also must watch Love Actually every December or it’s not Christmas. Those are my two guilty pleasure movies! I mean, you know, important films…

So sorry you’re missing your little girl so much. I grew up in much the same situation as Brooke is right now so I know it’s hard on everyone. She is very lucky to have a mom who adores her so much!

Have a great rest of the weekend!

Reply

I think that sounds like an awesome Saturday!! Minus not having Brooke there. And I must have missed you at Target because I swear I was there the same time as you :) #targetbum the best. Can’t wait for Pizza Factory with you next week!! Xoxo

Reply

Every time you post pictures of those breadsticks they are all I can think about for the next week! I need to find my way to Target soon

Reply

So ironic you posted this about pizza factory. We took the sister missionaries there for dinner last night in Syracuse and I totally used the cucumber trick I learned from you. My husband is always impressed when I do that

Reply

That makes me so so happy!!!!!

Reply

All-time favorite candy bar would have to be three musketeers. I remember sneaking them from from halloween candy stash when I was little and my parents weren’t watching. :)

And I think I’ve watched Garden State, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and Safe Haven about a million times. Typing that just made me want to put one of them on, so that might be happening today…

Happy Sunday!

Reply

Fave candy bar: Kit Kat. All the way.

Makeup: I use a lot of Mary Kay. I also get a few things at Target. I’m headed there today to try the powder you use. Thanks for the tip. I haven’t found a powder I love except for Bare Minerals, but it’s expensive. :(

I need one of those breadsticks. Or two.

Reply

I like peanut m and ms! Never can turn them down.
I usually do long runs on Sunday when alone but if my friends are running long on a Saturday and I can tag along then I will.

Today I ran 10 miles. My peeps came to me because my car died yesterday. It was so nice to have company.

Reply

I absolutely love a Resse’s Fast Break (chocolate and peanut butter anything for that matter). A movie? I have watched “The Buttercream Gang” a million times. I was eight but I was sick and spent a couple weeks in my dad’s recliner watching this movie. I re watched it a year ago with my husband and he said “you actually liked this?” Yah, twenty years later – not so good. Haha! I love E.L.F. makeup. It is cheap (Target) and vegan!! It is all right up there quality-wise with expensive brands. One item I do buy from an expensive brand (Makeup Forever) is my concealer. See my blog for a review on how amazing this stuff really is!! Lastly, Sunday! Sunday is the day I (well Hal Higdon. I am using his half marathon training schedule) set aside for a long run. It feels so great to enjoy my Sunday with a few extra bites of something yummy since I burned so many calories with a long run. Also, Monday is my rest day! Yay! Have a great week everyone!

Reply

Sunday is my long run day! I crushed 18 miles before work this morning which meant my alarm was set for 4:30am! So much for sleeping in on the weekend! Covergirl is my go-to and I like the “sensitive skin” stuff… feels so much better on my skin! Have a GREAT Sunday Janae!

Reply

Fave candy bar – BUTTERFINGER!!!

A movie that you have watched a million times – Bridesmaids. Omg, never gets old!

Where do you buy your make-up? Favorite brands? – sephora or the drugstore. Covergirl 3-in-1 liquid foundation used with a foundation brush is the best thing EVER for this girl (oily/combo skin with some acne and acne scars).

Day that you typically get your long run in or your best workout of the week? – usually sat or sun morning…start with yoga, try to do a run later on or some sort of strength training.

Reply

Fav Candy: Twix
Movie I’ve watched at least a million times: 10 Things I Hate About You, Mama Mia and Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead

Reply

I know what you mean about feeling lost on a Saturday without a long run. Story of my life!
And why can’t normal people have clothes as cute as Brooke’?! Not fair…

Reply

Heath bars are the best HANDS DOWN. Followed up by Snickers and Almond Joy.

Reply

I want one of those twisty breadsticks! Saturday is usually my day for my best workout of the week as well. My favorite is a BodyCombat+BodyPump double-header at the gym which I did yesterday:-)

Reply

Sometimes a day off is just what you need!!

Reply

I also usually do my long run or a longer workout on Saturday. There have been a few times when I took the day off for various reasons and it felt so weird! I like didn’t know what to do with myself all morning! Target is a good idea for next time:)

Reply

Target is also my retail therapy of choice!
I always have my best runs on the weekends. I’m much more rested so I’m able to push myself a lot more.

Reply

Favourite candy bar is this one in England called Toffee Crisp, it’s the best!! One movie I have watched a million times is Something Borrowed, I don’t know why but I can watch it over and over again!! Whenever I visit my dad in America, I stock up on all my make-up at Walgreens, some make-up is so expensive over here!

Reply

I have an issue with this contest. Because, #1 who decides what a ‘real’ runner is and #2, most of the profiles I’ve seen are not relatable at all. They’re former track stars, SUPER fast marathoners and triathletes, I mean… come on. That’s just like the runners they usually feature. ? No offense, but I don’t think that group realizes there’s a whole other group out there who are moms and runners and still consider themselves athletes even though they may never win a trophy.

All-time favorite candy bar!??! I don’t have one. I love dark chocolate, though. Endangered Species 72% and Green and Black’s 85%.

A movie that you have watched a million times? Elizabeth.

Where do you buy your make-up? Favorite brands? Target or cvs. I don’t really wear it.

Day that you typically get your long run in or your best workout of the week? Varies

Reply

I agree-there’s something to be said for the everyday runner. We do make up most of the pack after all.

Reply

Kinder Buenos are my all time favorite candy bar, my boyfriend bought me a case of them for Christmas because they’re hard to find around here. :)

I have seen Ever After about a million times.

I pretty much don’t wear makeup, once in a blue moon I will wear mascara, but I usually don’t bother.

My long run is usually on Sunday. Today was 12.2 miles on some trails, it was a really pretty run, and now I want a nap.

Reply

I haven’t had a milkyway in forevaaaa– you just made me crave one! Also I’m glad someone else commented on the man legs in your pic because I totally caught that too- hahaha creeper status. YAY!

Reply

Butterfinger rocked my childhood. Now I’m all about Milk Way Midnight.
Almost everything I buy comes from Target. Sometimes I forget that I don’t actually live there.
Thursday or Monday are the days I do my long runs. With my family, Saturday and Sunday simply don’t work. I truly believe in doing what works for you, not necessarily what is written on a training schedule or what comes from a coach.

And, I would give anything to go back in time to when my kids wore size 2T. I don’t remember giving them permission to grow up.

Reply

My niece turned 3 in April and I have no clue how that happened! She was just a baby yesterday!

Got to love a good deal on makeup! I usually buy mine from a local boutique who sells products like Sephora does. Hard on my bank account by really good makeup!

PS: I now know the pain you experience during scraping therapy. I’ve been having issues with my hip and recently had it scraped. Talk about pure agony! But my hip feels better so I guess it was worth it?!

Reply

I love Target too. I actually buy a lot of my son’s clothes on clearance from Children’s place. I buy them big and cheap, so when he grows, I have clothes for him to wear. I even buy winter coats when they are super cheap and in the middle of the summer. I just put them away. I am sure your parents will let you store them at their house. They are going to miss you guys..well I mean Brooke ;)

Reply

All-time favorite candy bar!??!
Smarties, Big Turk’s or Mars bars (Those are Canadian). But I’ve found ONE equivilant here in the USA: milky way.

A movie that you have watched a million times?
N/A – I’m not one to watch movies over and over. Then again, I watched Bridesmaids 3x in the theatre. Lol..

Where do you buy your make-up? Favorite brands?
Sephora, Nordstrom or Dept stores. I love Dior, Philosophy and Estee Lauder (for foundation)

Reply

My only goal in life is to master the stacking of salad as well as you do. Seriously awesomeness! ;)

Reply

Awwwww that is so cute, i do the same when my daughter is away with her dad, i go out and buy her something cute and cant wait for her to get back so she could try it on :) I love a Snickers bar, yummo mummo. Enjoy your sunday :)

Reply

Is that hairy leg in the pick? Are you on a hot date??? details Girl! details! :)

Reply

Long run day is Sunday….killed that 18km this morning! When I was a teenager, my girlfriends and I watched Can’t Buy Me Love and Adventures in baby sitting over and over. Kind of embarrassing to admit lol.

Reply

Wow, we use the same make-up! I wonder if that sale is still going on. I usually run on Sunday mornings with the Hubs! Eat, Pray Love is my go-to movie. And I love Snicker Bars!

Reply

Hands down, whatchamacallit is the best candy bar ever! Peanut butter, caramel, and crispies can’t be beat. I do enjoy an occasional Milky Way too. While munching a Whatchamacallit, I love to watch Stardust. It has romance, magic, sword fights, and pirates in a flying pirate ship. No matter what kind of movie I’m in the mood for, it delivers.

My long runs are normally Saturdays, but I’m switching to Sundays. 12 miles today and for some reason, it really hit me and I’m all stiff, and feel like I need a new pair of legs.

Reply

I love the Physician’s Formula bronzer and powder too! Target always makes me feel better :)
Fav candy bar: TWIX!

Karen @karenlovestorun

Reply

Take 5 is definitely the best candy bar. Saves you the effort of mixing all your favorite things yourself. :)

Reply

Awww Brookers!!! Now that I’ve met her I can imagine even more how hard it is for her to be gone! And I totally agree – Target is one of my happy places :)

Reply

My favorite candy bar is Chunky. I almost never have one, but they remain my favorite.
There are a few movies I watch over and over… The Last Holiday, The Fast & The Furious, Empire Records, to name a few… I don’t really do “deep” movies. ;)
I’m the worst when it comes to makeup. If I wear it, I just get whatever’s cheap at Target. You’d think at 35, I’d have figured some beauty stuff out, right?

Reply

My college friends and I watched She’s the Man and Step Up at least 4 times a year each. We just looooooved Channing Tatum. Looks like a fun weekend! And that Chambray shirt for your lil girl is ADORABLE

Reply

Aw that chambray shirt for Brooke is too cute!!

Reply

I have been seeing that movie on Netflix lately, and I really want to watch it :) I love what you got for Brooke! I need to hit up Target soon! I am in need of some new bronzer too!

I need those delicious bread sticks in my life!
