Thursday Thirteen.

I woke up on the complete wrong side of the bed yesterday morning.  It happens.  Luckily, as the day went on it got better and better because of these highlights:

1.  Hayden, she is the best.  Her little boy makes me laugh so hard because he is the world’s fastest crawler ever.   He is pretty much a blur when he crawls because he gets going so fast.

IMG 3352

2.  Carbs upon carbs upon carbs upon carbs.  Sometimes they are the best medicine.  PS Brooke refuses to be in a high chair these days.. she is much too old and mature for such a thing.

IMG 3348

3.  Getting this text from Candice.  Thanks for being my octopus.

IMG 3354

4.  Seeing this… Runners:  What You Feel Like and What You Really Look Like.

Screen Shot 2014 06 18 at 4 33 58 PM

5.  A GOOD LUCK DINNER FOR JEN last night.  She is off to run Grandma’s Marathon this weekend and I am so excited for her.  She ran a 2:54 this last October at the St. George Marathon without very much training so I can’t wait to see what she does this Saturday after all of the hard work she has put into this training cycle.  She is pretty much my idol.

IMG 3366

6.  Brooke’s highlight was being held by Rachelle and having a capri sun.  Capri Suns (and orange slices) will always remind me of soccer games as a kid.

IMG 3359

7.  Hawaiian Haystacks, it has been way too long since we have been together.

IMG 3364

8.  Have you ever seen more delicious looking cookies in your life?  Utah people—>  These are from Smart Cookie.

IMG 3362

9.  After I put Brooke down it was time to see Edge of Tomorrow.  I loved it.  Like usual, I got a little too into it and my heart rate was soaring the entire movie.

IMG 3367

10.  This is definitely a highlight—>  I am no longer walking like I have broken legs (I have been asked in the parking lot of the store what is wrong with me this week because I have been walking so crazy because my legs were so sore after the marathon).

11.   To go along with #10… I am not injured anymore.  That was a long 5 weeks.

12.  My latest post-midnight activity of browsing Pinterest for way too long looking for decorating ideas for my new apartment.  Who needs sleep when you can just spend that time on Pinterest.

13.  Not quite a highlight but we will just count it as one of the 13!  Here is my playlist from my marathon.  I always speed up my songs using GarageBand so that I have fast songs to try to match my feet with as I am running.  HERE is a tutorial on how to speed up songs.

Love Runs Out by OneRepublic

Turn Down For What by DJ Snake & Lil Jon

Dark Horse by Katy Perry

All I ever Wanted! by Basshunters

Timber by Pitbull

Can’t Hold Us by Macklemore & Ryan

Tennis Courts by Lorde

The Distance by Cake

Sail by AWOLNATION

Papercut by Linkin Park

Where’d You Go by Fort Minor (I edited this song using Garage Band too).

Anyone running Grandma’s Marathon this weekend?  Has anyone done this marathon in the past?  Thoughts?  What is the course like?

A highlight from your Wednesday (or Thursday)?!?

Pinterest—>  how often do you use it?  Favorite categories on Pinterest to look through?

Where are you reading from right now?  Home, work, school, some random place? (This isn’t so that I can stalk you but for some reason I am just interested to know)

Glad everything’s going well! Just out of curiosity, how do you know you aren’t injured anymore? Did you see a doctor?

Those cookies look amazing, and I may have to come to Utah just for them.

A highlight from my Wednesday–yesterday was my last day of work! I start a new job on Monday and I am excited for new beginnings!

I am reading from home!! No work today or tomorrow, so I am going to sit back, relax, and actually get to enjoy a hot mug of coffee and breakfast :)

Reply

Congrats on the new job – that’s awesome!!! Good luck on Monday!

Reply

I’m reading from the waiting room of my physio appt!

I have never used Pinterest (behind the times) but I’m in general slow to adopt most social media. Highlight from Weds, made a new friend at the gym!

Reply

Octopuses in your face type friends are the best!!!

I am currently reading from work – I get here extra early so read a few blogs before my day gets going. My highlight from yesterday was finally going for a four mile run after taking three weeks off for bronchitis. It was a hot run, but I enjoyed it anyway. Oh, and heading to the pool the first time this year.

I loved Capri Suns when I was a kid but now they only have weird flavors like arctic berry blast and I want just plain apple. Boo.

Reply

Hey :) What other blogs do you read? Any similar to this masterpiece?

Reply

I follow a bunch of random blogs, but other healthy living blogs I like are Healthy Tipping Point, Nurse on the Run, Peanut Butter Fingers, and Running off the Reeses.

Thanks heaps!

My Wednesday rocked because I’m in Oslo for work, and was able to do a run around the town last night! It is beautiful here.

I am reading ‘Empire Falls’ by Richard Russo, it’s really good but kind of sad so far.

I love pintrest for motivational quotes. The kind that say ‘Man Up, Princess’ and make you feel like you can take on the world!

Reply

Highlights: an elderly woman was giving everyone hard candy in line at the rite aid. She told us we weren’t allowed to say “no thank you” and just take it; a little girl with curliest hair I’ve ever seen was totally cracking herself up on the subway. Both of them were adorable.

I’m currently dog sitting and am sitting in an uncomfortable chair in my kitchen because the dogs cry if I move three feet to the couch. I just learned that I would not be a very strict parent and/or dog owner lol ;)

Reply

I am not running Grandma’s this year (had a baby, but I am hoping to rock the 5k;-)) but I have done it 2x’s in the past. Janae, you have to sign up for Grandma’s next year. It is not a difficult course, some rolling hills and 1 bigger hill at mile 21 (but not too bad if you are ready for it). The views are awesome. The first 9 miles lack spectators. but there is tons of support when you need it the most, the last 6 miles;-)

Reply

I love running to Mean by Taylor Swift too. I think it’s a great running song!

I have been using the same running playlist for like 6 months now. I have tried to refresh it but I think I’ve actually just found the perfect mix for me :) It includes lots of pop songs from the 2000s, the very best time for pop songs! haha

Reply

I am still Pinterest abstinent! LOL! I spend way too much time on social media and the internet in general so i feel like it’s the only thing left for me to refrain from.

Highlight from yesterday was solidifying plans for date #3. It’s nice to get to know someone and make it to the 3rd date still wanting to learn more about them =)

I’m not really reading anything at the moment but the 2 books i have that i am hoping to finally read on the plane when i fly to San Francisco next month are Born to Run and memoir that’s supposed to be really funny called Let’s Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson

Reply

I live on pinterest. I’ve never fallen for any form of social media so hard. True story: I mostly used pinterest to plan my move to china. It was awesome.

Reply

I am running Grandma’s this weekend–my first 26.2! Been training since October and I couldn’t be more ready. That stretch of road runs along Lake Superior, is pretty flat, yet winding. Weather forecast looks perfect–55 degrees for the start, party cloudy. Can’t wait. Shooting for a 3:20:00–I’ll be looking for Jen, even though I will be running in her dust cloud!

Hooray for being injury free!!!

My highlight from Wednesday was going to the farmer’s market just five blocks from my apartment. I always get a treat from one of the vendors who make delicious baked goods – hello Double Espresso Chocolate Brownie!!!

I’m not on Pinterest because I have an addictive personality and I’m going back to school soon so I thought I’d save myself from the addiction :)

I’m reading/writing from my laptop at home in my kitchen with my injured puppy(she’s confined to the kitchen with a broken shoulder :( so sad). Every morning I look forward to reading your posts to start my day over a cup of coffee.

Reply

Wednesday night highlight: caught up on the show mistresses while eating a double scoop from the local custard stand.

Reply

So glad to hear the injury is feeling better, you must be so relieved to have gotten passed that!

Reading from home right now eating breakfast, what I always do while I’m reading your blog :)

Reply

i’m at home right now! orange slices and capri suns also remind me of my childhood days… as well as fruit roll ups and mondos. those were the best.

Reply

Ugh, I need some new music for my playlist. I never listen to the radio anymore and have no idea what the kids are listening to these days.

I use Pinteret to browse the Humor category for stupid pictures to text my husband. You know, like this one: http://pinterest.com/pin/280841726733395175/

Reply

I look at Pinterest when I am really bored at work and my favorite page is the Women’s Fashion page and running/fitness! I also look at home decoration every now and then as well!

I am reading from work (I always read your blog first thing when I get into work on the mornings :)) in Charlotte, NC!

Happy Thursday!

Reply

In the summer my friend’s and I would freeze capri sun pouches and then cut the tops off and eat them like slushies! They were delicious :)

Reply

Yay for walking normal again! I’m reading from work…I always like to check in with you in the morning. :-)

Reply

I used to loveeee Pinterest but now it’s once in a blue moon kinda thing. My highlight from yesterday was listening to the Disney singalong station at work all day…it’s impossible to be stressed while listening to Part of Your World :) I think you’re playlist is awesome. I have a few random songs that are just so relatable or full of memories that it doesn’t matter what the tempo/style is, it just gets me going!

Reading from my cozy bed at 10.30pm in Australia, snuggled up on a chilly winters night. First thing I do on my iPad is check your blog!

mmmm cookies. I need to get me some of those!!

Your comment about someone asking if you were alright in the parking lot reminded me of a few weeks ago when I was doing a speed workout at the track. In between sets an older man who was walking the track came over to me and asked if I was okay, I was like “yes” and he goes “oh okay, I can just hear you gasping for air from across the track” <- oops.

Reply

I love pinterest and use it way too much! Right now I’m reading the 3rd book in the Finding Faith series by Terri Ferran. It is so nice to be done with college and not have to read textbooks :) That marathon sounds sweet!

Reply

We saw Edge of Tomorrow last weekend and I enjoyed it! It sounds like you had a ton of people around to really turn your day around!

The highlight of my day so far is that I got up earlier than I needed to, so I am sitting here at home looking at blogs and drinking coffee. :)

Smart cookies are the best! There’s one right next to the theater we always go to so we always get one (ahem…or 2…Each) to take in to the movie. I love the almond one. Also I’m pretty sure their non – icing ones are better. Which I NEVER thought I would say about any cookie. And now this comment about Smart cookies is way too long :)

I’ve never run Grandma’s Marathon but its definitely on my radar for the next year or two. It sounds like a great event and $85 bucks for a marathon is a pretty awesome deal! PLUS it’s in Kara Goucher’s hometown and that’s pretty awesome!

Reply

I’m running grandmas half marathon this weekend, but have run the full in the past too. It’s a beautiful and FAST course. Janae, you’d totally rock the race and love the scenery. Plus, there is this place near the start in Two Harbors called Betty’s Pies and YOU TAKE A PIECE OF THEIR HOMEMADE PIE AND PUT INTO A BLENDER AND MAKE A SHAKE OUT OF IT!! Life changing and much deserved after the race!!

That bread looks delicious.

I’m reading this from work.

The highlight of my Wednesday was volunteering at the food bank. It was fun and went by super fast.

Also, this happened a little before Wednesday but it is a highlight of the week. I became a SweatPink Ambassador!

Reply

Whoo hoo for Grandma’s! I am running it and couldn’t be more excited! I wish I could say I’ll see Jen, but I think I’ll only be seeing her from the back – speedy mama – good luck, Jen! I’ve heard the course is beautiful, not too hilly, except for mile 21ish. Ready to run!

A highlight for today that I’m looking forward to is running with my running store’s group run, the Summer Sizzler. I’m commenting from work…shhhhhhhh:)

By the way, Janae, you look so much like your sissy in the first pic you posted – simply a beauty (both of you)!

Reply

Reading from the pool! Ummmm you got me hooked on cold water submersion after my long runs! A cold river would be more awesome! Stay blessed J!

Reply

I’m reading from work right now (shhh!). It’s kindove my morning ritual!

Have you ever gotten a massage the day of a race? I did that for my marathon recovery in February and it made me feel like an entirely new person. I walked in the room like a 100 year old man and walked out with completely fresh legs, I swear by it!

Opposite of a highlight: I ran into TWO coyotoes on my run this morning, so I ran home terrified. Obviously I’m not much of a nature girl haha.

Reply

Thursday highlight will be no work, a 11 mile run and packet pick up for ardura this weekend!
I’m reading from home as I lace up my shoes.
You’ve ran a lot of utah races…. What would be a good first marathon?

You have nearly the same playlist as I do. Have you thought about adding Iggy Azalea? My recommendations are Work and change your life…no she did not sponsor me to say that….HA.

But seriously you should add them.

I’m reading from my dock on my pond and just finished feeding the mallards. It’s what I do to relax after running.

Congratulations on the new apartment! Decorating a new place is always a blast!

Oh pinterest. My greatest frenemy. I’m pretty sure I spent enough time on it throughout college to have earned a second degree in pinning. Seriously though.
Here’s some home decor inspiration :) I love stalking lark&linen’s pinterest for decorating ideas: http://www.pinterest.com/jacquelynclark/pins/

Love pinterest!! I’ve been obsessed with the Women’s Fashion category lately, and I easily spend hours pinning things. Although since I’m moving next summer, I’ve been thinking about pinning a bunch of things I want to get before I move, you know a check off list so I don’t forget ;)

I probably use Pinterest for recipes more than anything else. I have so many up there!
Currently reading from my desk at home ;-)

Pinterest=mainly recipes for me. Ive had an account for a few years but I just started pinning stuff about 2 months ago. Pinterest is dangerous though because of how much time I can spend on it.

Good morning Janae!
It’s my first day of SUMMER! I am a teacher and school let out yesterday …. NO 4:40 a.m. alarm!!! :)
I’m pretty much hooked on Pinterest. Love school stuff, inspirational stuff and humor. My sisters actually go into my “desires” board to buy my birthday and Christmas presents!
Going for a prolotherapy shot today for my piriformis muscle injury. It really works. It’s a sugar shot basically, and you can’t take anti inflamatories for 1 week before and 3 weeks after. Your body recognizes the sugar as foreign and healing takes place. I’ve had it before with awesome results. Training for Chicago and have had to do cross training this past two weeks.
Happy Summer! Good luck with the move! :)

Grandma’s is the reason I started running! We lived on the course our last year in Duluth and I convinced myself to run the half. I have been hooked ever since and use visiting my inlaws as an excuse to run the half every year. The course is beautiful as it is on the shore of Lake Superior and you couldn’t ask for better fan support once in town. Duluth is AMAZING in the summer!

Highlight… Being with my best friend, going to a place called peacock island- an island where a ton of peacocks troll around.

Love Pinterest, but hardly use it because I don’t have internet at home. Cool to see quotes, fitness, and home design though. You should check out the houzz app for your apt :)

Reading from Berlin, Germany! Reunited with my bestest friend after four years apart… Heaven! =]

Great running playlist. I have most of these songs on my iPod, but may need to add a few as well. I love the feeling of going for a run or bike ride with a new playlist.

I used Pinterest a lot when I was planning my wedding. I still use it from time to time for recipes, outfit/fashion ideas, and to save quotes that impact me.

Nothing too exciting going on today except enjoying the sunshine, going for a run, and meeting friends for dinner at my favorite Brewery! Happy Thursday!

I go on Pinterest way too much. I have the app on my phone which adds to my habit. I like women’s clothes, food and drink, home décor, and health and fitness.

Driving to Duluth right now after a very bumpy flight from SLC last night! So ready for 26.2 miles on my favorite road :). I’m reading at work, while eating lunch. “Love Runs Out” is one of my favorite songs right now!

The Grandma’s Marathon is a big deal in MN! I hope to run it someday as it’s only 5 hours from our place. That sounds like a long time in the car as I type this out, but there just aren’t many marathons in my area! Hope the weather cooperates for all the runners.

Highlights for today —> rollerblading with my son in the jogging stroller and a play date with a good friend!

Those Smart Cookies look delicious… maybe it’s time to bake.

Til I Collapse is a classic running song, for sure!

I am reading from work… kind of. I have a clinical group for a local nursing school, so I am sitting at the hospital monitoring them right now.

The highlight of my Wednesday was picking my 5 1/2month old cutie up at daycare (pretty much the highlight of every day since I went back to work one month ago); I always read your blog first thing in the morning at 5:30am while feeding the baby, if not then, always on my lunch break at work; I use pinterest pretty much exclusively for random or last minute recipe ideas. Otherwise, don’t look at it much.
Have a great Thursday!

My one and only marathon was Grandma’s two years ago! Today I’m 35 weeks pregnant and hope to run it again sometime! It was fabulous… Totally out in the country along Lake Superior until the last five miles when you need people to cheer even louder! Good luck to your friend!

I was so happy to see you talking about it, I’m running Grandma’s Marathon!! It’s my second marathon but my first time running Grandma’s! Holy cow you have some super fast friends!!

I’m sad to say that a highlight of my day today is that I get to mow the lawn. I guess when you aren’t allowed to do something for months, even chores sound exciting.

I recently had a ton of people share a particular recipe from my pintrest…and I am assuming someone blogged about it…and all sorts of people repined it.

Thank you for sharing your marathon playlist!!!

Oh girlie – I could tell you all about Grandma’s Marathon. I was born and raised in Duluth, MN, and STILL live here! I’ve been around the marathon atmosphere for quite some time and think it is an amazing race! Last year was my first time running it, and I did the Garry Bjorklund half-marathon. It is a relatively flat course (I thought) except the infamous ‘Lemon Drop Hill’ around mile 9 or 10 (I think?). The run coming down the shore is beautiful and the energy once you are in town and getting towards the finish line is amazing! I am so happy I did it! I cheered this year for a lot of great friends. =) Any other questions, shoot them my way! =) Duluth would love to have you next year!
