Nutritional information, a black widow, race checklist and the next big thing to follow…

I had some people ask for the nutritional information and ingredient list for Fit 4 Her (I talked more in depth about the product in the previous post)!

Remember you can get $7 off Fit 4 Her by using the promo code HRG!

And the ingredients list:

I had my last pool run this morning before my marathon on Saturday!  65 minutes with Candice.  PS yesterday we found a black widow (seriously) in the pool coming towards us.  Both of our lives flashed before our eyes.

By the way, you are welcome for being the person that is testing out whether or not pool running keeps you in good running shape.  Come Saturday I will either feel in great shape or want to quit at mile 2 and curse every article out there stating that pool running helps you to keep your running fitness up when you are injured.

The Jessanator is in town (hallelujah) before she flies out to AFRICA to go climb Mt. Kilimanjaro (no big deal) and she had three requests of things that we do together while she was in town.

1.  Eat the world’s best hot dogs (J-dawgs).

IMG 2942

And the opposite of a whole wheat hot dog bun. (Brooke had lunch before.. I didn’t just feed her a pickle:)

IMG 2934

2.  Swig for caffeine and sugar cookies (that cookie was for Brooke ((I am still working on lowering my sugar consumption)… but I definitely had a dirty (coconut flavor) diet dr pepper… I am to the point that I am okay having 1-2 a month without going crazy and drinking 70 ounces a day again).

My most normal friend.

IMG 2941

3.  Go to our favorite duck pond to have a deep conversation.  The deep conversation part wasn’t part of the plan but it happened and it was very needed.

For the randomness of the day, Brooke started an instagram account (brookerockstagram). Feel free to follow her because I bet she will gram a lot more frequently than I do.

I love this checklist and I wanted to share it again because I always go through it race week!

I can’t run with sunglasses but I wish I could- I hate squinting! They just always slide off my face or hurt my nose. Good luck this weekend!

Brooke having IG >>> that is such a great checklist! I always forget shoes to bring after a race and I just walk around barefoot :) I don’t even like hot dogs but those look so yummy!

I am pretty familiar with the ingredients for foods I eat frequently. And I try not to eat alot of packaged stuff, but when I try something new I do try to check the label.
I need at least one cup of coffee a day. I try not to have caffeine after 9am because then I find that I keep needing more.
Yes to sunglasses while running! (Especially in the summer)
Lately instagrams been my favorite social media site… I can’t wait to follow Brooke:)

Reply

I neeeed caffeine every day. If I don’t have at least a cup of coffee or can of diet coke by 11 am, I get a headache. I try not to have more than a couple of caffeinated beverages a day, though.
I don’t like to run with sunglasses, they just feel weird while running for some reason.
Instagram is my favorite social media site too! I will most definitely follow Brooke :)

Well I feel privileged to be Brooke’s 9th follower! #bigdeal

Now we are going to have to teach her how to toddler hashtag! :)

I’m not a caffeine person, I just dont like the way it makes my heart race. And I get a lot of sleep normally, so I don’t usually feel like I need that extra burst of energy in the morning.

I check out labels, only because I’m picky about artificial sweeteners, not so much because I’m worried about calories :) I LOVE that race day checklist too! I need to print and keep in my race backpack!

Reply

I have not been drinking caffine because of my current situation. But every now and then I have a DMD and it is like unicorns and carnival music. I love that stuff too!

Reply

I am really, really interested in how the pool running has helped with sustaining your running fitness. Then again you have such a good base to begin with, I bet you are going to ROCK that marathon (as long as there’s no pain)! I hope you have a perfect day!!

I have at least one cup of coffee in the morning, and one cup of hot tea at night after dinner :)

Reply

I pretty much always check the label because I have a food allergy, but I also really like to look at what I am putting in my body. I drink 1 cup of coffee a day and if I don’t… it can get ugly! All the way on the sunglasses and I love me some Instagram and can’t wait to follow Brooke!

Reply

I love Instagram and it is my favorite social media site hands down! Brooke will be the coolest kid on Insta, no doubt!

I can’t go without caffeine. I don’t drink pop, but I have to have either a couple servings of Advocare Spark a day or some coffee. I have a pretty high tolerance, but some of those energy drinks totally wig me out!

I seriously ran with one eye shut one morning because the sun was so bright, but I never wear sunglasses to run or drive or anything. I was never able to wear them as a kid with glasses, so once I got contacts as a teenager I kind of forgot I could wear them, and now I can’t stand having them on my face. Weird. I really need a good pair to get used to running in so I’m not straining my eyeballs!

Reply

haha Max just randomly saw the pic of Elmo out of the corner of his eye and went running to the computer….

I only have caffiene in the AM – usually only one cup of coffee. Sometimes two. Never after 3pm! I avoid sorbitol because it makes my tummy angry

I like Twitter the most, followed closely by instagram.

Reply

i love me some IG! Brooke is going to be a IG rockstar. I was thinking about making Baby D one… :) They can be friends!

Reply

I always check nutritional info….but then I don’t usually do anything about it :) one day!

And Instagram is the best! Just followed Brooke!

I’m testing out the fitness theory re: pool running too – I’m super interested in how your race goes (and I hope it goes well!). I find that even when I push my effort in the pool, it just doesn’t feel like it heart-rate wise. I sure am tired afterwards, though. I’m curious if it’s the same for you?

Thanks for posting the ingredients! That’s a pretty good list without too much wackadoo stuff.

Reply

I drink caffeine on occasion; more in the summer in iced coffees. I read the nutritional info if we are trying a new snack, otherwise I know what I am eating.

Sunglasses are a must when running. They keep the sweat out of my eyes! Especially since I can’t pull off a hat. For some reason I think I look silly in a hat (my ears maybe?) and only wear them on vacation at a beach.

Love that Brooke is on Instagram! She is totally a RockStar!

Reply

I will check the nutritional/ingredient list for things I’m not familiar with. Unless it’s a really delectable looking treat that I want to enjoy without knowing how many calories/fat/sugar is in it. Sometimes ignorance really is happiness.

I get all my caffeine from chocolate. I can’t drink soda at all. I’m not sure if it’s the carbonation or the sugar (probably not the sugar because I love sugary treats) or maybe the combination between the two? But whatever it is, soda makes me really dizzy and light-headed. When I cut chocolate I usually cut all sugary foods and yes, I notice a difference: the first week I’m super grumpy but then after I feel much better about myself.

No sunglasses while racing.

Blogs are my favorite form of social media.

Reply

I’m a recovered diet coke addict, haha. I don’t have it often anymore, and when I do, I make sure it is in the morning.

Running with sunglasses drives me nuts because I get sweaty and then the lenses fog up with sweat, which is gross…does this happen to just me??? Brooks has some awesome running hats that are breathable, so I use those if the sun will be in my eyes.

Reply

COFFEE…COFFEE COFFEE COFFEE. I actually ran without it this morning, and bluuuuuuurrrghghghghghghgh.

Depending on the weather, but mostly yes! My faves are my Tifosi pink sunglasses.

Gosh, I love them all. I love learning different things about others.

And I just followed Brookers. Bwahahaha!

Reply

I always check the nutritional information, but sometimes buy it even if it’s not so impressive… Sunglasses almost always unless it’s super early in the morning and not too bright out yet.

Instagram is my favorite, but I’m started to use Twitter more and more!

Reply

I don’t usually read ingredient lists because I’m not usually eating packaged food. And when I do, I don’t want to be freaked out by the random chemicals I know I’m consuming…

I drink coffee everyday but I ~think~ it’s for the taste…I really don’t think I’m dependent on caffeine. Although its definitely possible that I am

No sunglasses… they always give me a headache…does that mean I have an abnormally big head?!?

And instagram for sure. Can’t wait to follow Brooke!!

Reply

Oh my. Totally going to follow cute Brooke! :) um there’s a Swig by you?! That will probably need to happen after Cafe Rio.

Reply

I do always check the nutrition labels… I keep a food journal and have for a long time now to help me (eating disorder recovery! Woohoo!). I like being aware of what I’m eating, even if it’s terrible for me! Counting calories has been the best thing for me to regulate my eating patterns, and it works well!

And- I drink caffeinated crystal light. Have for years. Don’t want to stop. Probably should :)

Reply

Thanks for the ingredient list!

I ALWAYS wear sunglasses when running. Even in the early morning, I’ll swap in my clear lenses. I don’t wear contacts (anymore) but I don’t like dirt and wind blowing into my eyes.

I can’t have caffeine – I turn into a jittery mess. It makes my heart race and I feel like I’m on some crazy drug.

Thank you for being the pool running guinea pig!! Can’t wait to see how awesome you’ll do. Maybe you can become a spokesperson for the running belt when you rock it :)

Reply

Usually check the nutrition information if it’s a new product. Don’t want to buy “fish sticks,” come home, and realize they’re made mostly with potato starch. I like potato starch, but it shouldn’t be the FIRST ingredient fish sticks.

I also check because manufacturers are unbelievable when it comes to serving sizes and a bag/bottle that is meant for one person will often list it as having 2-3 serving sizes so it looks like it’s lower calorie. This happens even for foods that are really low calorie to begin with. Who eats 2 tbsp of salsa? Or 1/3 of a pickle?

*gets off soapbox*

Reply

I loved your comment about not feeding Brooke “just a pickle”. I’m not sure why exactly but that made me laugh out loud – it was funny!
I must have coffee in the morning, something about the warmth of it and the richness (because I need lots of cream and sugar in it) makes me feel happy. And let’s face it, if you start the day off unhappy it usually doesn’t bode well! :)
Sunglasses while running (and walking, and driving, and reading outside , etc ) are a must.
Favorite social media is Facebook for sure. Good luck this weekend and have a blast!

Reply

Sunglasses are a must for me. Running or not….I will get a headache without them.

I am a caffeine addict. Have to have a least 1 (sometimes 3!) cups of coffee in the morning.

I do check nutrition labels, only because I’m trying to be more conscious of what I’m putting in my body. Not allergic to anything, I just like to know what I’m eating.

Can’t wait to hear about your race and see how all the pool running helped!

Reply

Thanks for sharing the nutrition and ingredients label! I always check ingredients but only sometimes look at the nutrition label. I have to be careful of MSG because it makes me go temporarily blind and it hides out in so many sneaky places!

Caffeine—> uhm, two double shot lattes a day (homemade) but after 3-4 no caffeine … (dont really need it at that point).

Sunglasses while you run/race… YES or NO?!?
have glasses – but getting contacts (again) soon so it will depend on the time of day.

I’m really looking forward to hearing how the pool running has effected your road running…I plan to use pool running as my cross-training for my next race!

I’m usually a hat person when I’m running, but I’m thinking about wearing sunglasses…do you just keep them on your head if your run starts out when its still dark out?

I’m oh-so bad at looking at nutrition labels, but starting to become more aware of how much sugar is in the things I eat.. yikes!

Sweet little Sophia has food allergies, so I always check labels. Sunglasses are a must here in AZ (btw, we gotta meet up next time you visit Gilbert). :) Caffeine is a must too, but today I wrote about my 2 Day Juice Cleanse, and was shocked that while doing it, I didn’t need it. Have a fab day Janae. :)

I’m a label-reader. No caffeine (it’s very entertaining for observers and not so fun for me). Yes to sunglasses. Instagram is my favorite. I tried making an account for my little girl but the name I wanted to use has been taken…by someone who posted ONCE. Totally annoyed me.

Reply

I check labels obsessively for anything I buy for home but if I go out to eat I don’t want to know anything! Ignorance Is bliss when you want to get your pancake on at IHOP. :)

I drink 3 cups of coffee daily ( the tall size at Starbucks) morning afternoon and after dinner.

Sunglasses while you run/race…I recently started wearing sunglasses at ever race but I always have a baseball cap or visor or winter fleece cap so I can slide the glasses up if I need to. In the summer the sweat builds up on my cubby cheeks and then I blink and the salty sweat stings so I need easy access the the eyeballs or I want to just sit on the curb and pout. I’m so high maintenance. Lol.

Favorite social media site is Facebook for keeping in touch with friends
But Instagram for blogger interaction :)

1. always check the labels. I’m Celiac.
2. I also can’t have caffeine (though I can take a small amount of it, I don’t usually).
3. I must have sunglasses always. Thank the Lord for sunglasses.
4. Interesting question. I’m on FB more often but I prefer Instagram. And I am constantly reading blogs.
Love the Brooke Instagram account and I’m really glad you fed her more than a pickle. ;) Mostly because I don’t like pickles.

Reply

I try not to eat a lot of processed food that would have nutritional information, but when I do I’m indulging and don’t want to know.
I don’t drink a lot of caffeine, just occasionally if it goes with what I’m eating (like mexican food for some reason). So I don’t notice when I go without it, but definitely notice when I have it.
Sunglasses – always.
And instagram is my fave!

Reply

I check my labels pretty often, except if i KNOW what I’m eating is awful, in which case i just shut my eyes and enjoy the unhealthiness!

Okay, so, caffeine…I drink one cup of black tea a day and ideally would go without it all together. I’m down to that from 3 cups of coffee a day as a college student, so improvement! Once I break my caffeine habit, I always feel soooo much better, I feel like its easy to dig yourself into an energy deficit with caffeine

no sunglasses!

Instagram!

Reply

I rarely check food labels, but I usually don’t eat foods that even have labels. If I do check a label it is to either see sugar or sodium amounts. I have a cup of coffee every morning and I must say that I NEED it, but that is all the caffeine I will have in a day. Sometimes I wear sunglasses, just depends on the conditions. I don’t like running in a hat though. Instagram for the win!!

I always check the nutrition label. I like what I see for the Fit4Her protein :)

I am running Saturday, too! I am getting over a respiratory infection so I am with you on the “lets see how it goes” train. This is my third time running this marathon and was hoping for a BQ, but we’ll see what happens.

Instagram is my favorite, hands down.

I hate wearing sunglasses to run but have to this time of year. Not just to protect my eyes from the sun, but from the bugs as well. Nobody likes a gnat in their eye!

Reply

I ALWAYS check the ingredients. I do my best to avoid fake sweeteners because they make me super thirsty. I also try to avoid non-organic corn and soy products. GMO = super creepy.

I have a serious coffee habit that didn’t surface until after I was done with grad school. :-(

Sunglasses or a hat with a visor is a must for me.

I <3 Instagram.

GOOD LUCK THIS WEEKEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)

I don’t drink coffee, pop and rarely have tea, so I don’t get much caffeine. When people find out I don’t drink coffee they think I’m crazy.

That is hilarious that Broke had an Instagram!

Reply

My general rule with nutrition labels is if I can pronounce it/ know what it is, I’ll eat it :) and omg a black widow in the pool?!?! I would die!!!!

xo

Reply

I check labels sporadically. When I do, I try to stick to things that I know what they are, mystery ingredients probably don’t need to go into my body. Though, some definitely do!

I have coffee every morning. I get a headache if I don’t, and I also just feel foggy/sleepy without it. I need less on mornings that I run though!

I kind of hate running with sunglasses (and I need new ones, mine bruised behind my ears during my last race), but I had PRK surgery (similar to lasik) a few years ago and my eye dr told me that I should ALWAYS wear sunglasses when I’m outside. I gave him a lot of money to fix my eyes, so I guess I should listen to him!

Reply

That’s so cute how you gave her an instagram account! As for labels, if it’s something I’m buying specifically as a treat (like ice cream) then I won’t, but if I’m buying something for more everyday use (cereal, bread, soup, etc.) than I will.

Reply

I always check ingredients at the grocery store because you can’t trust what’s advertised on the package. The fewer ingredients the better!

Brooke’s insta account is hilarious. I could only imagine the insanity my kids would post if they had accounts (like 100 pictures of their big toe in 5 minutes)

Race checklists are a must no matter how many you’ve done :)

Reply

I LOVE coffee! It brings me joy each day! I usually have a cup in the morning and a Starbucks run around 3pm.

I do check most ingredients. If I have to check that just means that I should probably not be eating it :)

I will sometimes run with sunglasses. I hate the sun shining right in my eyes……plus, who needs more wrinkles from squinting?!!

Brooke having an instagram account cracks me up! And I can’t handle spiders! I would have been paranoid the whole time that another one was going to jump in :-/

Reply

Just something to consider, as you set up Brooke’s instagram account. This news story broke this past week — http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/parenting/instagram-bans-roxy-jacenkos-2yearold-daughter-pixie-curtis/story-fnet08ui-1226948255368

Additionally, I disagree with all the commenters who think this is “adorable.” You are creating an online presence for your daughter before she can consent to it. In the future, as she gets older, tries to find a job etc, this will all be on the internet and searchable under her own name. What if she doesn’t like it? What if it becomes a liability for her? I find this bothersome, not adorable (although Brooke herself IS adorable!).

Reply

Wow, that is really interesting. Thank you for pointing that out, I never even thought about that. I will take time to really think about this. Thank you so much Ashley.

Reply

I need coffee as soon as I wake up and usually have a cup in the afternoon for a pick me up too!
I try to watch labels but not obsessively. I’m ok with needing a gigantic cookie from my work’s cafeteria without even glancing at the ingredients some days. They are warm too so it’s worth it!
I am excited to hear about your race Saturday. Whatever is meant to happen will and I think your idea of just going with the flow is an awesome one. I am rooting for you!

I try to check labels but I’m pretty laid back about it. I wear sunglasses when running or I would get a headache from squinting to much lol I don’t drink coffee but I’m a tea drinker. Usually one cup keeps me going. Fav social media site hmmm Instagram !

I’m kind of into eating only real foods (mostly for taste; health benefits are definitely there, but I am all about cooking fresh food!), so I nix foods with long ingredient lists and chemical additives. Except, you know, when I really want those foods, like the peanut butter MnMs I bought at work :)

Reply

I almost always check nutrition labels since I want to eliminate processed foods as much as possible. My favorite social media site is also Instagram!

Reply

I’ve tried really hard to not get addicted to caffeine, so I generally have it 3-4 days a week max- in the form of coffee at the beginning of the day. The month of June though I haven’t had any coffee, and caffeine has come in the form of sweet tea!

I am going to tell you my story about pool running as a training program…make that the entire training program for a marathon.
I have ran a handful of marathons, including Boston in 2012, I couldn’t register for 2013 because of school conflicts, but I was fortunate enough for my school to let me travel for Boston in 2014 because I really wanted to be there in honor of the victims of 2013.
Then one lovely Thursday (a week before Thanksgiving) in November I was on a run and all of a sudden felt pain in my groin. Doing my own diagnosis, I knew it was a fracture, yes indeed it was. I had my X-ray done that day, I asked to take a peak before I went home, and I saw it right there in front of me (as my heart crumbled). I didn’t let that stop me though. The next day I was in the pool, swimming laps using a noodle to keep my legs afloat and only relying on my arms. I went back and forth for weeks as to what to do about Boston, I finally decided that I will travel there no matter what and if I am healed, then I will run, if not, then I will cheer my heart out. So I continued swimming with only arms from the week before Thanksgiving to Christmas, at that point I had incorporated the butterfly stroke because having the legs kick together was less strain on my fracture. Then slowly through out January I added in pool running, starting at 10 minutes and my longest being 3 hours. It was not until middle of February I ran again for the first time. I started off nice and slow and slowly built up mileage, using the 10% rule, which is apparently too fast of a rule if you just had a fracture!! So here comes the middle of March and I have a new ankle injury that I continued to try to run on despite the pain. Needless to say, I had a good 4 weeks of 5-20 milage weeks under my belt until I could barely walk without limping and pain. Back to the pool I went. It was Friday before the marathon when I finally gave in and took Ibuprofen and Tylenol for inflammation and pain. That Friday was the first day I could walk normal! So I kept that dose of medication up all weekend as I traveled to Boston. Then I made my finally choice on Sunday the day before Boston, I would start with a jog and walk when I cannot continue. I started the race on Marathon Monday morning with the other runners in my corral, and I cannot believe it but I actually ran the entire marathon in 4:09 (my best being 3:14). Needless to say, pool running is amazing!!! YOU GOT THIS!!!!

Reply

Thanks for sharing your experience with pool running. That is so awesome. Congrats!

If it is sunny I NEED sunglasses..I squint when there are clouds! haha And I don’t take caffeine because it makes my heart have palpitations and my head hurts. :/ I AM SO HAPPY BROOKE has an Instagram!!!

I feel like I check the nutrition label quite often because it gives me an idea of what I am actually putting in my body, and what my body will need for the rest of the day. Right now I can’t have caffeine at all because I am breast feeding, but I am actually doing pretty dang good without it ha. Breastfeeding is totally worth it to me :) Sunglasses during a race are a definite must for me as well. And fav social media is instagram for me also. I LOVE pictures and insta is full of them :)

I only check the nutritional information on some things. If something is SUPER high in sugar then I usually think twice about it unless it’s meant to be sugary, like a dessert of something!

I would say I drink caffiene because I like tea and stuff, but I am not a fan of soda really at all. I like the occassional Dr. Pepper or Sprite on a blue moon but I absolutely despise Coke, Diet Coke, etc.!

I don’t wear sunglass while I run, I have never tried it but I know that it would be bother me!

This check list is great, I am super Type A when it comes to my races and well running in general so the night before I lay every single thing out on the couch and then the morning of I go through a check list like 3 times to make sure I have everything. I am super weird if I forget something and then feel all thrown off!

Instagram is definitely my favorite social media site as well!

RE: brooke instagram account.
Seems like an idea that at first sounds cute/funny/adorable…but then when you as the parent think about it for maybe a few minutes…you realize all the potential issues this could cause…and you decide to not do it.

I don’t feel like caffeine really does anything for me, so I pretty much cut it out last year. Good thing, too, since I couldn’t really have it while I was pregnant.

I don’t wear sunglasses when I run because I sweat so much and fog up the glasses. Plus, I feel like they make my face hotter than it would be otherwise.

Reply

I have to have coffee every morning in order to be a functioning human being. My husband calls me an addict. Yeah, that’s about right!

Instagram is definitely my favorite social media site. There’s too much drama on Facebook and I don’t have a twitter account.

Wait. Black widows swim?! They can come get you on land AND water? *dies*

I hate having the sun in my eyes, but I haven’t found a pair of sunglasses that are comfortable for running, so I usually just use a baseball hat.

I always check nutrition labels. I am a major sweet tooth, so I always count calories, fat (esp sat fat), fiber, protein, and sodium. I try to keep everything in check each day, but some days I eat way better than others!

I like caffeine too, but I drink sodas on my weekends and then I get one soda in the middle of the work week……………..that guarantees me at least 4 days a week without it. I cut out the diet soda this year bc I felt like I was drinking too much of the fake sugar substitute so now I limit myself to less soda but it is the real thing.

I only use facebook, but really only to keep in touch with college pals.

Reply

LOVE Instagram!! Or I guess you could say I’m addicted…..I always check ingredient list when it comes to something that didn’t come from the produce or meats section. I just like to make sure there is nothing fake or chemical-ee in it (<-I just made up that word). I never have caffeine, it keeps me up for days!!

I check the nutrition label on most things only because I like to know what the serving size is. At this point I’m not trying to avoid anything, I just like to know what I’m putting in my body.

I typically have ONE iced coffee, light and sweet every morning… This week I have been running late so I didn’t get it on Monday and Tuesday and boy by 1130, I was CRASHING hard… I’m trying NOT to consume as many sugars, but some days its just too hard… I had my coffee this morning and I’m feeling chipper and ready to go…lol

I don’t currently race in sunglasses but I want that to be my next purchase.. I’m sick of squinting (it causes wrinkles, lol)

I love Instagram as well….

I check nutrition labels, but usually only for calories and fat. I’m now trying to check for crazy ingredients and making sure things are more organic and natural.

I love the Brooke has her own IG. That’s super cute!

Love my morning coffee, afternoon tea, and one diet coke a day that I sip throughout the day (opened can in fridge which drives husband nutso.) Definitely drag when I don’t have but I have 4 kids and a nocturnal wandering 23 month old, so feel I “need” my caffeine kick. I always run with sunglasses – I live in South Africa where the sun is bright and strong. Good luck with the marathon!

If you google, “hot weather marathon tips” there are lots of good ideas (I ran one where it started in the high 70s and weather in the high 80s/low 90s by the end). Making an ice pop of energade/gatorade to eat before you start is one I did – idea is to lower your core temp before you start. Don’t take popsicles from people on the route (as I did) if you have any aversion to weird fruit flavors while running – made me really sick at the 20 mile mark. Oh and be careful when you douse your head with water to keep cool – it does cool you down but it also made my socks kind of wet and gave me blisters which I NEVER get. make sure you are wearing really good wicking clothes if you do opt for the sprinkler/water over head to stay cool strategy… Good luck! have fun!

I usually check the labels for fat, carbs, and protein. I avoid milk and soy products.

I have two cups of coffee in the morning and have a soda maybe once or twice a week.

I bought some prescription Oakleys that are not cute at all, but they get the job done when I run.

Sunglasses – ALWAYS! They are usually on top of my head whether or not it’s sunny out (and I live in the Pacific Northwest so more often than not, it’s usually gray) but I’ve been wearing the same pair for about 10 years now and I’ve never lost a pair :-)

Love coffee, but it doesn’t affect me if I don’t have it or not. Not a soda fan (and it’s definitly not recommended since I donated a kidney)

So thrilled to have you testing out Pool Running (even though I wish you could REALLY run!) because I feel like it will inevitably be in my near future.

I actually wrote an entire blog post yesterday about how my Keurig died and it was like tragedy struck my household. Read: I need coffee in the morning.

I have caffeine a few times a week, but I also suffer from some pretty terrible anxiety, so I try to stay away from the way I used to consume it, which was 3 or 4 cups of coffee a DAY. Now I’m like 3 or 4 times a week on a crazy week. The days I have it, I try to make sure I do an extra long run or just something to help burn off some of the excess anxiety that caffeine can produce in me.

I run with a hat so that I can avoid sunglasses. Sometimes I have my hat so low I look like I’ve just robbed a bank and I’m trying to get away without being ID’d.

Caffeine. Funny you should ask. I’m usually not a caffeine drinker. I get a bit spastic on the stuff. At most I’ll have it a few times a week in the form of green tea. Or, like you, the occasional diet soda. But lately, I’ve been having it daily. I really need to back it down. I get a boost (which usually results in me talking about 6,942 wpm), but in the end, it doesn’t end well. I’m usually more tired.

I am a huge nutritional label reader. When I was pregnant with my girls, I had gestational diabetes with both and continue to really dissect what I am putting into my body. I try to have the “right” carb to fiber ratio for my body to process the carbs as slowly as possible. I take the fiber and multiply it by 5 and if the carbs are less than that number, it tends to have a lower glycemic-index (or at least that’s what my nutritionist told me).

I am going to follow Brookestagram ASAP

If you’re traveling to your race, please add to your checklist “GPS watch charger.” I got to my destination race recently to realize that the charger was not in my travel charger bag like I thought it was. Gasp! And I had almost no juice left on my battery. Yeah, my watch lasted all of 7 miles (of a 26.2). Real bummer! So yeah, go ahead and learn from my silly mistake.

I read labels. I was really surprised to find that most people don’t. I actually wrote about that on my blog a few weeks ago. I check mostly for calories, fats, sugars but also because there are things I don’t eat because of religious observation so I ask questions at restaurants. I don’t eat pork or shellfish – lots of chicken or turkey sausage is made with a pork casing or has salads might have crumbled bacon, etc. Some fruit juices are now being colored with cochineal (insect) pigment.
I need to know what I am eating so I can make an informed decision.

OMG, FLIP FLOPS! I ran a 10 mile race a few weeks ago and I saw people pull flip flops out of their bag and I was so jealous. Who ever knew that gym shoes would be not comfortable? I couldn’t WAIT to get out of those things!

Instagram is now my numba 1 social media site. It’s surpassed both facebook and twitter by A LOT.

Good luck on tomorrow! I don’t really read labels anymore, unless its looking for specific ingredients. Could care less about the calorie.fat. content. Caffine is a must!

Omgshhhhh so, the black widow was actually alive swimming towards you??!!! 0_0 *goosebumps* And running in a pool sounds pretty genius, if only I had a pool near me…hm…:D

Nowadays I’m too busy tending to my baby WHILE grocery shopping so it’s def. hard to look at the labels. I’m comfortable not looking at calories now, although onnnnceee in a great while I do get curious if it’s something that is obviously unhealthy–then I look at it, hah! More than anything, I’m more concerned with the amount of ingredients and quality of them because that’s what makes us healthy in the end.
