We are an interesting group.

Google Translate for Runners is absolutely hilarious.  Here are my favorites… I think we can all agree that these are spot on:

We are an interesting group don’t ya think?!?  I have been guilty of the last one a lot.  I tend to think that just one day off is MORE than enough time to heal an injury/pain/ache.

———————————-

I kind of have a trail 1/2 marathon next month so I thought it was about time to do a longer run on the trails this morning.  The race that we are doing is supposed to be crazy hard with a lot of areas that you have to hike up so it is time to get to work so that we are ready for it.

We all started off together but we had different times that we needed to be back, Jess and I stuck together and finished 9.5 miles.  It was our first time running together and we realized that we can in fact do other things than just eat froyo and watch the Bachelor when we are together.

I then recruited my mom to go up north to the brand new aquarium.  Utah people, you have to go!  They are still working on a few exhibits but the ones that are open are amazing and for the price, it is totally worth it!  $15 for us to go TWICE!

Oh sharks, you freak me out.

A picture with a cute friend that we saw while we were there.  I don’t think Brooke was very happy with me because I was interrupting her fish watching for a picture.

Actually, the string rays were my real favorites because I got to pet them.

A 3 lb salad a day keeps the doctor away (because it prevents me from overdosing on french fries and mentos).  On the topic of salads:  The 10 Emotional Stages of Navigating the Salad Bar.

I also had some yogurt.  My brother (he is an ER doc) told me to eat 4 of these a day to help with the stomach issues that I was having from Thailand.  All of these probiotics have worked miracles.

And this made my day… NEW EPISODES OF THE MINDY PROJECT ON HULU

That show right there – The Mindy Project – is the one that always puts a smile on my face :)

Just recently (as in today) my lower back started feeling a little sore. I’m not sure if it’s running related or not, but it’s annoying and uncomfortable.

Penguins are my favorite at the aquarium too. I love watching them dive and swim!

New Girl always makes me laugh out loud :)

I kept running through a hip injury and now I’m paying for it…the total time off will be almost 4 weeks off by the time I can run again. The good news is, I’m watching lots of cooking shows, the bad news…I think I paid the salary of 9 Ben and Jerry’s employees last week!

Parks and Recreation can change any negative mood I have into a positive one.

I wish I felt like Leslie Knope does in my office building everyday.

Lets see. I ran on an injured foot for about 6 months and ended up taking almost a year to heal and I’m still taking it slow since my surgery last MARCH! What is it with the hungry thing? I ran a 15 mile long run last week and for 2 days no one could get close to my mouth for fear of getting bit! I think they all apply to me.
Last year I won an entry into a trail half marathon up in Park City. I was cleared by my PT to run it but take it easy. It was a tough race. It took me a LOOONNGG time to finish. But trail running is different and I love it!

I usually get hooked on one comedy show or another and watch reruns that make me laugh….because laughing is magic!

Reply

I did a trail race (two actually) and they are vicious! I had to look down a lot because of all the roots/rocks and there was a river crossing with knee deep water and hills so steep you couldn’t run. And those log step things! It was crazy, but so fun.

Reply

A trail race sounds so fun! But I am such a wimp and run super slow when running on uneven surfaces (anything but a road or treadmill) because I’m so afraid I will hurt myself.

Reply

OOOOO Sharks! <3

"Modern Family", "Scrubs" and "The Simpsons" will forever have a direct line to my funny bone.

"I'm starving." All of the time. :P

I somehow keep running through PF. That little pain on the outside of my foot is always a wake-up call to stretch more.

I may or may not have called my sister today just to tell her that I was laughing out loud at last night’s episode of The Mindy Project. So if she hadn’t watched it yet, she needed to get on it. Priorities, you know ;) I love that show. I love Community (soooo random) and Brooklyn nine-nine too. Oldies, but goodies also include: The Office (only the early years) Arrested Development and 30 Rock. All shows guaranteed to make me laugh hard enough to fall off the treadmill. True story.

I like the ‘I’m starving’ one. Subtle. And true. But the whole list is spot on.

I run through injuries waaay too often. If I would just back off at the beginning probably almost all of the ones I have had wouldn’t have side lined me for so long. But I have a hard time looking into the future. I think I want to finish THIS run. I want to run NOW. Instead of, ‘Oh. If I skip a few NOW, I WILL most likely be able to run later.’ I haven’t ran at all this week. I think I may have pulled my adducter. I tried to run this morning and it hurt pretty bad. I had to talk myself out of the run and on to the lame elliptical and stepmill. It was like the walk of shame.

I think we actually might be going to the aquarium tomorrow :)

Those Are Hilarious. Yay Go Trail Runs, They Are My Absolute Favorite. The Sharks Are Super Scary But Awesome At The Same Time. Did You Feed The Sting Rays? They Eat Really Weird.

Ahhh we almost went to the aquarium today, too!!!! But we decided to play outside instead! I’m glad to hear that’s it’s good because I’ve been looking forward to going!
Yum your salad looks so good!
I’ve never seen the mindy project but I read her book a few weeks ago and I really liked it. Perfect for a light read for your next book.

Reply

I loved the what a runner is really thinking!!! I put all of them on my blog a few weeks ago! I loved because they are SO true!!!!
I tried to run through my runners knee a few years ago…..didn’t work!
I recently had some IT band issue that I have been able to run through, but very carefully! Took a few extra rest days and have slowed the pace but seems ok so far

Reply

OMG- those Google translates are hilarious! So true too! haha!!

Reply

-As far as TV shows go, I am in LOVE with New Girl (especially season 2!)!!!
-Most of my running “excuses” can be translated into “Britt forgot to pre-treat her asthma/Britt forgot her inhaler” lol!

Reply

I love the Big Bang Theory. I love that I can watch episodes every night. I also love the Amazing Race. It’s so cool to see the places they go.

Reply

I loove the Mindy Project, I missed it so much while it was hiatus!

Reply

Hahahahahahah! Running through an injury? Well, I guess technically osteoarthritis a disease, right? (even if you don’t know you have it) Back when I was rowing, I used to train through injuries until I discovered that taking time off actually lets them heal! Imagine!

Reply

That Google translate is pretty spot on, if you ask me. ☺

I’m a big fan of Ellen. If I am in a grumpy mood, Ellen will immediately change it. She has so much good in her heart and is effortlessly funny.

I have probably done more trail half marathons than road half marathons – there are a lot where I live. Some of them include The Dirty Half, Dirty Girls Half Marathon, Haulin’ Aspen, Down and Dirty (obviously there is a theme).

Reply

Omg I just died at the google translate thing. Basically every single thing was spot on but these were my two faves:

“I’m just hoping to finish.”
Translation: “I will PR or die.”

“The race went really well. I felt good.”
Translation: “I had the race of my life. Please ask for details. I want to tell you how awesome I am.”

Reply

Haha! Love the translate at the end. That point one or point two makes a difference! :)
I want to go to that aquarium! And The Mindy Show is wonderful. I’m also enjoying How I Met Your Mother lately. I’m watching it in order though so don’t give away how it ends!

Reply

I loooooove The Mindy Project. She makes me laugh my butt off.

I also looooove penguins! <3

I run until either my chiropractor or massage therapist tells me to stop because I am stubborn. Oops.

Reply

I just started watching Sherlock and love it! I can’t stop watching it! Too sad that there aren’t more episodes.

I ran on a stress fracture for 4 months. It ended up taking me out for 6.

Reply

What injuries have I run through? Hmmm…all of them! Usually I cut back my mileage a little bit to see if that will do the trick, then I cut it back some more, then if that still doesn’t work, then I resort to taking some time off. :)

Reply

love the mindy project!! It’s definitely one of my favorite comedy shows. I have run a “trail” half-marathon but it wasn’t a hilly trail half-marathon, just a half-marathon that was on a flat trail….

Reply

If you’re still having issues, a good quality probiotic from a health food store (Genestra brand is great! Clinically proven. No, I don’t work for them haha) has way way more cultures than yogurt. :)

Reply

Battling a pinched nerve in my glute right now and I can’t even walk without pain, let alone run… very annoying! I won’t be running through this injury but it’s hard for me to take a break from fitness so I’ve been biking a lot :) Friends episodes always put a smile on my face… even though I’ve watched them a million times!

Reply

Big Bang Theory is always hilarious, even though I’ve seen almost every single episode at least three times!

I can relate to pretty much every one of those google translations for runners. We are kind of ridiculous.

I have run through a lot of random pains, hips, knees, blisters. The worst was finishing a half marathon with a stress fracture in my shin.

Reply

I have run through random pains but not injuries. It is important to know when enough is enough for your body! As runners sometimes we try to self-diagnose too quickly.

I haven’t watched the Mindy project but I have heard so many good things! Need to try it out!

Reply

Hahahaha those are all hilarious! So true! I like the one about ‘yeah, I ran 20 miles today’. Yes, you are awesome.

I love the show Raising Hope. Also The Middle. Both are about regular middle/low class families and all of their shenanigans

I did a 15k trail run once – it was awesome! We ran around a lake and through a campground!

Reply

I was at the aquarium today too! It’s so cool and my kids loved it!! We could have watched the penguins all day!!

Reply

Ahhhhh I wish I would have seen you! Honestly, I just want to be friends with those penguins. They were so awesome.

Reply

I work with penguins at an aquarium…when you have a bad run or crazy day, they listen and don’t talk back!

Reply

Janae you just look so so so good.

The mindy project is the best show in the whole world. I don’t think any of the running statements apply to me as I’m more of the whining type…

Can you continue to post never before seen Thailand pics throughout the rest of this month? Just one? :)

Reply

I have some pictures to send you:) I wish we could watch mindy project together while eating a shocking amount of donuts.

Reply

I am really really loving The Mindy Project right now!! She’s really fun and I always find myself laughing. I really enjoy Modern Family too. I eat yogurt with probiotics in it 4-5 times a week- good luck with it :)

Reply

Last summer I did a 10K and a 15k trail race up at Round Valley in Park City (R-U-N events – you should check it out). It was a lot of fun but those hills are a killer. Plus I’m really clumsy so have to take it a little easy on the downhills so I don’t kill myself.

Reply

That sounds like a blast! Are you doing it this summer?

Reply

Yes! This year I’m doing the 5, 10 and 15K. I’m really looking forward to it!

Reply

The Mindy Project is the best!! I just watched last night’s episodes on DVR. So mad at what happened with the relationship though (don’t want to spoil it for anyone ;)).

Reply

Haha those google translations are too funny! Why are runners always so stubborn about injuries?!

Reply

Haha that google translate is hilarious!! And yayyy Mindy on Hulu! Love that show so so much. :)

xo

Reply

Real Housewives anything always makes me happier. I’ve got a thing for trashy TV!

Reply

That Google translation was spot on! Runners are as ifferent breed. We have all run ourselves into injury, swore we would NEVER do it again. The. We do it again :)

Did you and your running friends plan the matchy matchy this morning? 2 tights and mint green. 2 shorts and argyles. 2 capris. Super cute.

Reply

Hm…maybe I should do some more probiotics! I feel like that would help my angsty stomach in general!

Reply

The Mindy Project literally makes me laugh out loud! That show pretty much makes my entire Wednesday (since I always watch it the next day online)- glad someone else loves it too!

Reply

I definitely let out a few LOL’s reading the runner’s translations, haha. Sounds like my husband.

Reply

I get giddy when there’s a new episode of Brooklyn Nine Nine!!!!

Reply

OMG, that list is so funny, but so true! Too many to write. A good episode of SNL makes me laugh, especially when Justin Timberlake is host.

Reply

oh man I am so scared of sharks, I won’t go past knee deep in the ocean

Reply

Well, I’m definitely not a runner. But I’m happy for all that are. :] (I have bad knees!) The show that always makes me laugh that’s currently on is Growing Up Fisher. It just started…it has some funny moments. A light watch.

Reply

Google Translate article had me laughing out loud – it’s all so true. Thank you for sharing!

My knee hurt after a long bike ride yesterday so I decided a run was best for it today – some people may think a day of rest – nope can’t be, that is incorrect. ;)

Reply

I never watch TV–I don’t have time!

I am too much of a road runner to do a trail race. I might consider one if it wasn’t straight up a mountain like so many of them are here.

I ran through some glute pain last winter and even ran a couple of marathons with it because it was “just” a dull ache and quite tolerable. Yeah, I’m kind of bad.

Reply

I love Modern Family! And Friends and Seinfeld always make me laugh, no matter how many times I’ve seen them.

Reply

New Girl
Parks and Recreation
Parenthood
Survivor and Amazing Race

Reply

I suffered a severe femur fracture in college as a runner. I’m really good now about not running when I have a pain. I went through too much with surgery and recovery. It’s not worth running through the pain!

Reply

I am so excited about Mindy, too! The new episodes I’ve seen so far are awesome and were totally worth the wait.

I think we might be going to the aquarium this weekend!

Reply

I just finished a Mindy episode, I’m obsessed/love her!

Reply

New Girl makes me laugh every time.

Reply

My two favorite shows of all time right now our Modern Family (hilarious) and Parenthood (I really wish I could be a Braverman, lol) One show that used to always cheer me up and make me roll of the couch laughing was Scrubs (I still watch all the re-runs). I LOVE trail running!! I have have done a few trail 5k’s here in Mass :)

Reply

Big Bang Theory and Modern Family are foolproof ways to make me laugh. I have never watched the Mindy Project but am told that I would love it… so maybe I will try it out soon!

Reply

I really love The Mindy Project, and I have also grown to love Brooklyn Nine Nine- it’s now one of my faves! I think Google Translate is spot on, though I do not believe I’d be able to walk through – let alone run through – a blown Achilles. I ran through greater trochanteric bursitis until I just couldn’t any longer and had to seek PT help. It still seems to be a nagging injury, but you know runners…

Janae – could you write a post sometime about how you met all the girls you run with? I’m a slower runner and struggle to find people who want to run consistently who are at my pace. Did you meet your runner friends through your blog? Growing up? Running groups?

Reply

I love the penguins too! Also the sea otters- they’re so cute!

Reply

What a gorgeous place to go trail running! Where is that? My boyfriend & I will be in the Salt Lake area in August, and I’d love to go for a run/hike/bike ride through there!

Thanks!

Whoever is standing next to you in wearing my current favorite sneaks in the entire world—Brooks ghost 6…I am going to wear those during Boston because I have decided that they are magical and possess magical powers to make me FAST. :)

I love aquariums! The nearest one is in Boston and its SUPER pricey. Lucky for me my daddyo gets free tickets from his work!! :)

The New Girl is my fave. Ans Brooklynn 99 lately!!!

Reply

ha! so true! I’ve had a very sick, and hard, pregnancy – and have not been able to keep up running the way I thought I would (seriously, the whole time I have been like, “HRG ran the day she gave birth, what is wrong with me!!!”) and I miss it so bad. I’m so slow, it’s painful every step, so I just most of the time walk now. I can’t wait to get back into it so I can train for something again!

Reply

Hahaha those were incredible! I especially love the ‘my eternal happiness hinges on the outcome of this race’!

Reply

That was so hilarious about the things runners say! We are an interesting group indeed!

Reply

The Mindy Project KILLED me when I watched it online last night. SO FUNNY! I also love Parks and Rec and the New Girl. All shows that make me laugh out loud. The healing part and the running on an injury part are totally me…and the reason why I’m going to the doctor tomorrow. :/

Reply

The line about the Achilles acting up is so me. Had a nasty case of plantar fasciitis last year where I had to walk backwards to walk down stairs in the morning and I was still trying to run – eventually I had to back off and didn’t run for a couple months,

Beneficial posts, Appreciate it!

The Mindy Project has quickly risen to the top of my list! I laugh out loud (even when I’m alone) during each episode! I think Mindy Kaling is such a fantastic woman.

Those aquarium pictures are great…that is what I get to do each day…take care of gentoo and macaroni penguins!! We also have a stingray touch tank and a sturgeon touch tank, a butterfly garden, and jellyfish! You should come visit Tennessee!

Off to run on my lunch break! PS…smelling like penguins, then sweating it out on a run makes for a lovely combination!

I LOVE the Mindy Project! We definitely have a lot in common when I’m reading your posts!
