Thursday Thoughts

-Couldn’t have said it better myself:

Screen Shot 2014 04 23 at 2 18 00 PM

-I kind of love being up and ready to run when most people are still sleeping.  Mornings, I love you.  Anytime after 8:30 pm, I am tired.

IMG 0538

-Beautiful 8.4 miles with the girls and you can kind of see it in the picture but my friend in the pink galloped down the entire hill, I was quite entertained.

IMG 0546

-I finally found the world’s best drinking fountain.  It is right at the trail head and I am pretty sure the water is straight from a fresh stream from the melted snow in the mountains.  Come visit me and I will take you to this beauty.  PS I am on day FIVE of no diet coke.  I am such an all or nothing person and so I have decided to just go cold turkey.  I don’t really understand the concept of moderation.

IMG 0540

-Why can’t I find a pair of flamingo pajamas my size?  Yes, I am jealous of my 20 month old’s clothing.

IMG 0554

-There is an awesome group of Utah peeps that all get together 1-2 times a month to try out a new restaurant.  They always know the best spots to go to and it is so nice to be surrounded by others that are also on a hunt for the perfect pizza/Mexican restaurant/thai food/bbq/etc.  We went to From Scratch in Salt Lake City last night.  Go ASAP!

IMG 0534

-My brain doesn’t know how to get sick of songs.  I have been listening to this song for 8 months on repeat multiple times a week and it still just makes me happy.  I could also watch this movie a million times and never get sick of it.

 IMG 0555

-Last night my friends introduced me to the cutest puppy… A Pomsky Puppy.  Besides Brooke, I have never seen anything so cute in my entire life.  I want.  I need.

Screen Shot 2014 04 24 at 5 40 45 AM

-This right quadricep is telling me that it needs some TLC or else it is going to flare up (I feel like there is always something that is kind of hurting during marathon training, just part of the game) so I am going to get it SCRAPED today.  Wish me luck.  There will be tears.

 IMG 0549

-These two have just become the best of friends.  My parents told me the other day that it is okay if I end up moving out eventually but Brooke, she has to stay.

Thanks Karien! I hope you are having a fabulous day!

Reply

My Thursday thoughts are all about the training ride I’ll be putting in tonight!

I also love working out when the world is still asleep. My work schedule is shifted this week and all my workouts have to be in the evening and it’s killing me.

Reply

Hopefully your work schedule is back to normal next week! ENJOY your training ride tonight, sounds like a blast!

Reply

Running is my happy and I’m back to not being able to run. This time I’m serious – I’m going to find a doctor!
That puppy is TOO cute!! I fully support you buying one.

Reply

Oh Alyssa, I am so so sorry! Get in to the doc asap!!!!

Reply

Hope your not down and it for long. Fingers crossed for quick recovery.

Reply

It was ironic that you asked how long you stay in running clothes. Yesterday, I was kicked out if my house while it was being painted. 9 hrs of stink later, I finally got a shower!

Reply

9 glorious hours in running clothes, sounds like an ideal day to me:)

Reply

You are so lucky to live near such gorgeous hills, all of your runs look amazing!

Reply

I’m telling ya… make Utah your next vacation spot, it is beautiful!

Reply

Thursdays are my day off so I’m thinking about everything I have to get done today. One of those things is going for a run, though :)

Reply

Enjoy that run of yours… be productive but I think you also deserve some quality down time on your day off:)

Reply

Thursday thought: I’m freaking out about my ironman next weekend!!!!

Reply

NEXT WEEKEND!! AHHHHHH You are going to do amazing! I am so excited for you:) You are my hero!

Reply

Good luck with the ironman, you are going to do awesome.

Reply

I’m 8 weeks away from my first full marathon and I am feeling so proud of myself! I usually feel awesome when I’m training for something but this is the first time that I’ve really let myself feel proud of my accomplishments so far and it’s great!

Reply

EIGHT WEEKS.. you are doing awesome and you should feel proud! Way to go Meaghan! You are going to rock that marathon!

Reply

You should definitely feel proud, first marathon is huge. I have marathon envy now.

Reply

What does it mean to get your quad “scraped?”

Reply

Thanks for pointing that out to me… I forgot to include the link! This post explains it really well:

http://www.hungryrunnergirl.com/2014/01/scraping-ouch-but-so-so-so-good.html

Have a great day!

Reply

I don’t get sick of songs easily either!!! I love that. I could listen to “Ho Hey” by The Lumineers on repeat all day.

Question: how do you run on the trails in the dark?? Do some of you have flashlights or headlamps? Or do you just know the path so well?

Reply

We sometimes take head lamps but usually the moon is bright enough for us. We also know the trails pretty well and thank goodness the sun is rising earlier and earlier. Have a great day Anna and I LOVE that song too!

Reply

Thursday Thought: I’m Jealous that my husband gets to run in the St. Jude Country Music Half Marathon this wknd and I don’t related to a bum knee :(

Reply

I am truly so sorry about your knee Natalie. I totally understand race/running jealousy! Hopefully you are back out there ASAP!

Reply

Sorry about your knee, hope it gets better soon. When I’m down and out I try to cheer even louder at the races since I’m not it there running.

Reply

I am always saying that I need to start sucking it up and just work out in the mornings, but I have not been successful thus far. So I’ll be at the gym tonight.

These are my Thursday thoughts.

Reply

I need to do morning workouts too, I did two this week and felt like a champ, but they sure are tough to get up for.

Reply

I know, the few times I’ve been able to do it, I felt so accomplished and the evening felt so open.

Reply

Utah looks so nice!!

Only thought I’m having is that I am nervous about being a pace bunny for the first time this weekend. It is a 5 miler and at a pace that I know is comfortable for me – but eekkkk pressure!!

Reply

Good luck pacing, I always enjoy pacing others, it’s huge to help others knock out some race goals.

Reply

My Thursday is all about getting out an enjoying this gorgeous spring weather. I never get tired of seeing the pictures of Utah…it looks like a beautiful place.

AND…I have been eyeing up some of these pajamas: http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-1697854/sonoma-life-style-pajamas-mothers-day-raglan-pajama-set-womens.jsp. They have flamingo set that would go great with Brooke’s pajamas!

Reply

I cannot thank you enough for sending me this link. They are just like Brooke’s pjs! Twinner time:) Enjoy the weather today!

Reply

Thursday thought: I’m super happy to be having a yummy dinner later tonight with an out of town friend. And that I should really foam roll while I work from home so my right quad stops hating me:)

Reply

Enjoy that dinner and foam roll before and after:)

Reply

Your dad and Brooke are so sweet! She will have such wonderful memories!!!!
BTW…I got that base layer top from Gap…LOVE it! Thanks
PS. 5 days of no Diet Coke=awesome job! That is hard and I am all or nothing too!!!!!

Reply

My thought for Thursday, so excited that I won the Reebok SkyScape giveaway!! Thank you so much and you are always a great insperation!

Reply

Congrats on winning the giveaway

Reply

At the moment I’m thinking about how much I’m craving guacamole & a chicken shwarama salad & it’s only 9:45 am………

Reply

And now you have me craving that;)

Reply

Pitch Perfect is THE Best.

I signed up for my second half marathon yesterday! Thought I’d share :)

Here are some cute flamingo PJs! http://www.zappos.com/carole-hochman-birds-of-paradise-capri-pajamas-flamingo-floral?ef_id=UgFT1wAABVTCBQUY:20140424145223:s

Reply

Good job on signing up, good luck with training.

Reply

Just kidding, I posted the same flamingo PJs link again. Meant to post this one :)

Reply

That pizza looks amazing – I will have to check that out ASAP.

Now I just have 8 hours of work to do before I can head out on the trails!

I’m pretty sure Brooke is the best dressed person in the world right now!

Reply

I also love runs when everyone else is sleeping. Makes me feel like I’mworking harder since I’m killing it while everyone is asleep.

We have Pat’s Run in two days, can’t wait to race.

Reply

Thursday thoughts are all concerning midterms. I’m going to reward myself with a nice run afterwards.
OMG that pizza looks awesome!

Reply

Good luck on midterms

Reply

I always feel guilty running during midterms/finals time.. but I do it anyway! Enjoy your much deserved run!

Reply

I know, right? I had to get in a short run to relieve stress, but finally got to get in a quality run after my midterms today :)

Reply

Pitch Perfect is an awesome and hilarious movie!! I could totally watch it and listen to that song over and over too! You NEED a pomsky! I have never seen one in person, but the pic is adorable. Just like Brooke…so it will be a perfect fit!!!

Reply

Trying to find another half marathon that would be as fun as Run Disney’s! They sold out the first day! :/

Reply

I honestly think it’s just part of distance running in general that something is going to always kind of hurt a little bit — a knee, a calf, an IT band, etc. A couple weeks ago my other half said “you’re always injured!” but I’m not … it’s just that something is usually sore and I guess I like to complain a lot :)

If you find those PJs in adult size, please let me know asap! So cute!

Reply

Thursday thought: I volunteered to be an alternate on a Dragon Boat team for a race on May 3………I have not been in a boat like that ever, and the last time I canoed was in high school…..this should be interesting!

And I love flamingoes! I just watched the Disney Nature movie Crimson Wing, all about flamingoes..a bit sad but wonderful!!!

Reply

I have a few pictures of my dad and Annabelle like that one. Something so great about seeing those two together. :-)

I hope the scraping helps! Once it’s done, I think you deserve a big cookie. :-)

Reply

Love the pajams! Wish I had some too but I am pretty happy because yesterday at Ann Taylor Loft I found shorts with little pineapples on them. It’ll have to do instead of flamingos for now.

Reply

That I am SO HAPPY to have completed my final training run for the NJ Marathon on Sunday. And ironically today was the first day I felt the effects of the taper. I was as light on my feet as i’ve been in quite a while. I’m just giddy with excitement, nerves and anticipation…
Happy Running!!!

Reply

Love the pictures! My Thursday thought: It’s so beautiful outside… I wish I could spend some time in the sun!

Reply

My thought is that the massage studio I called should have gotten back to me because I am quite sore from the Boston Marathon! I was looking forward to a relaxing massage, but I guess its not happening. At least my last final of the semester is today!

Reply

My thoughts are that I cannot wait to run this evening with friends!!! And I wished I lived closer to Utah so I could see the beautiful places you describe and eat the delicious food from your pictures :)

Reply

My Brooke has those same PJs and I love them – and yes, I am jealous of all of her comfy PJs. A Thursday thought – We (my hubs and I) are leaving on Wednesday for a couples only trip to Mexico (YAY!) but its the first time I’m leaving Brooke (with her granddaddy) and I’m SO NERVOUS ABOUT IT. I know everything will be fine, but it’s the first time and I’ve written a 3-page document on her schedule, what to feed her, etc. Probably a bit excessive…oh well! :)

Reply

My hamstring has been bothering me ever since my marathon. I have never heard of scraping before. I just went and read the post you linked to about scraping. Where do you go to get this done?

Reply

main thursday thought:
Holy cow. My second marathon is happening in TEN DAYS. TEN.

Reply

I am such an all or nothing person as well. I think I need to cut sugar out of my diet :(
My Thursday thoughts are about my race this weekend and this silly job interview that I have been waiting to hear back about… I’m at the top of their list but the job didn’t close until Tues even though I interviewed 2 wks ago. I am not good at waiting.

Reply

haha I think we are ALL jealous of Brooke’s clothing!

Reply

Scraping sounds interesting, just read your other post on it. Didn’t come across it while healing from tendonitis but I wonder if it could’ve helped? Love running early in the morning, makes me feel like I own the world :)

Reply

I’m obsessed with Pitch Perfect, I listen to the album at least once a week and will never get tired of it! Thursday thought: Can’t wait for all my school exams to be over in a month!!

Reply

I totally love being up and running when others are still asleep. And I am absolutely dead to the world by 8:30 pm lol. most of the time at least.

Reply

I love Pitch Perfect…what a great movie!! I could loop it..and all the songs are just awesome!!
Random Thursday thing-going for my first run since the marathon on Monday-I am excited/nervous/anticipating some tightness but I know I will be sooo happy to get back out there and RUN!!!

Reply

The kid/grandparent relationship is one of the sweetest!
I need to be part of the food club! I’ve heard of From Scratch a few times now so it must mean I need to go!

Reply

I am excited to run today for the first time in 2 weeks. Dang ankle sprain!

Reply

I’m so excited they’re coming out with a Pitch Perfect 2!!

And, I can’t believe my next half is 5 weeks away! 2 random thoughts to you :)

Reply

Currently my thursday thought is oh sh*t! I’m heading to a hard practice after school with my high school kids…. I’ve been looking forward to one of these all season:)

Reply

My Thursday thought is that I signed up for my first marathon! Wineglass this fall! And I couldn’t be more excited :)

Reply

I’m on day 5 of no morning Pepsi for me-it used to be how I started my day. The first few days were painful…now, if I can just get through the first few hours I’m ok.

Reply

I hear ya on the scrapping pain! They have been doing that to me for 2 weeks now at PT for my foot recovery. It hurts and I have bruises to prove it. But it feels amazing after. Thoughts today are I’m taking a rest day. Usually I workout EVERY DAY. I know I shouldn’t, but I just love to. My body was very sore in yesterday’s cycle class so I’m listening and taking off a day.

Reply

My thursday thought is that as soon as I get off work there is a cupcake at my apartment and its going to be sooo great. Also, tell Brooke she’s got great PJs.

Reply

I am thinking that restaurant group sounds pretty cool and we should have one in Florida.

Reply

I am excited for tonight- going to see my bf’s brother perform in Les Mis at his college! I’ve never seen it but I hear it’s good!

Reply

Happy Thursday! My Thursday thoughts are that I can’t wait to run today! Usually my Thursdays are busy with dance class and the studio is closed this week so i get to run! It’s the little things in life…and also those flamingo PJs are to die for. If you find a pair let me know!!

Reply

That pomsky is soooo adorable! I grew up with a Pomeranian so of course I would think a pomsky is cute!

My Thursday thought: trying to decide if I should go for a run since it’s not raining (yet) or if I should go to hot yoga class. Either way, it’s my “me” time and I will enjoy both!

Reply

I absolutely love Utah! I’ve only been there a few times- twice to ski and once in the summer to visit Arches National Park. It was totally amazing. My treadmill at the Y has a Virtual Active with about 20 options of places to run. I can watch the big screen and pretend like I’m there. My favorite is Utah- Arches, Zion, and several other national parks- I’ve run through them all!!! Almost as good as being there in person…..

Reply

I will be visiting my family in SLC in June for graduation!
Going to keep track of your new restaurant recs.

We always go to breakfast at Ruth’s Diner. Best breakfast burrito I have ever had!

Reply

Janae,

My right quad is bothering me too! I did some speed work without warming up first (I know, bad), and it’s been cranky ever since. I took a few days off, ran, then it acted up again, so I’ve taken a full agonizing week off and it’s still cranky. Besides scraping (I honestly don’t think I could stand it! You’re amazing to do that!) what else do you recommend? I’ve been stretching it, keeping heat on it, doing some rolling but maybe not enough???

I love my morning runs, too, and am glad I’m not the only one ready for bed as soon as it gets dark, LOL.

Reply

I had the BEST grandpa and my Dad was the best grandpa to my nieces – so sweet that Brooke has your parents in her life!

I am on my final days in my 40s!! Turning 50 on Sunday and I am so excited about it! I never thought 50 would sound cool, but here I am. Celebrating in the 50th state and I’ll be having a 50-50 bar (creamsicle/orange & vanilla) if I can find one. May have to settle for a Matsumoto’s shave ice ;)

Reply

Happy 50th birthday, Kathy.i had the best grandpa too. We lived with them for a couple of years when I was a baby so he spoiled me until he died when I was fifteen. I am 37 and I still miss him lots. Grandpas are the best!

Reply

Kohl’s has flamingo pajamas for grown people!! I didn’t buy those but I did get the cute mint green and baby blue whale ones. The flamingo ones have a pink top and mint green bottoms with flamingoes on them. Very cute!!

Thursday Thought: My new running shoes are sitting on my doorstep, waiting for when I get home!! After starting to get shin splints after running on need-to-be-replaced shoes for the last couple weeks, I CAN’T WAIT to get my new shoes!! I am going directly to the gym after work (it’s across the street), but I guarantee I’ll get a few miles in tonight because it’ll be like Christmas getting the new shoes. My running shoe of choice is the Nike Pegasus… one of the few shoes that doesn’t hurt the balls of my feet.

I am glad I am not the only one who loves Pitch Perfect. I was totally against watching it initially, but once I caved, I really really enjoyed it (and continue to)!

Reply

I am so jealous of all of the amazing places that you have to run! It looks so beautiful there :)

Reply

Have you heard that they’re working on Pitch Perfect 2 right now? So excited!

Reply

I’m super jealous of your brains inability to get tired of music, I usually go crazy for a song for a couple weeks and then can’t bear to listen to again for months, sometimes years!

Reply

Awww…love the pic of Brooke and your dad. Too cute.

Just got back from an awesome women’s bible study! Just what I needed to hear today : )

Reply

My Thursday thought is that I want it to be Friday! Pronto! We get to find out the sex of our baby tomorrow and I am so anxious! Time is creeping by!

Reply

Great job on the Diet Coke! I am the same way, I am all about going cold turkey! :)

Reply

Thursday Thought: I can’t wait for Friday! :)

Reply

I am always super jealous of your running landscapes. You have such a beautiful place to run!

Reply

I bought my daughter those pajamas too and they are just ridiculously cute, no other way to describe them.

Reply

Take care of that quad.

My Thursday Thought…boy, did my measly one mile walk yesterday thrash my little hip stabilizer muscles! I really felt every single one of them on today’s much shorter walk. Rehab is kinda tedious :-/

Reply

My Thursday thought… How in the world can I give up diet coke like you?! Day 5! That’s amazing. Every day I think I need to give it up but it just makes me sooooo happy.

Reply

yay so glad you tried from scratch!! missing you lots and we need to do dinner next time i’m in town! Xo

Reply

Been dealing with some health issues all week and today it seems like it’s getting better so I’m just happy to be almost pain free.

Reply

I love the cups song! It gets stuck in my head FOREVER though…. so I should probably put it on my play list for the barre class I teach :)
Right now I’m thinking about how my muscles in my shoulder region are so tight- I don’t even have knots- it’s like one solid, super tight knot. It’s painful so I have a tennis ball digging in it right now.

Reply

Pomsky’s are cute, but my Pom is cuter :) :)

Reply

Well, its a Friday thought for me right now and as its ANZAC day here my thought is ‘Lest we Forget’

Reply

Do you think you’ll ever eat Thai food again?

Great job on the 5 days Diet Coke free. I gave up soda four months ago. I don’t know if I feel amazing or not but hey…one more healthy thing I’m doing for me. Right?

I have never seen “Pitch Perfect”. I suppose I should get on that.

Reply

I cannot believe that Brooke is already 20 months!

That pizza looks so yummy right now.

Reply

I was at a Hanes outlet store recently and that had 2 different pairs of flamingo pajamas for adults! I can’t recall if either had PINK flamingos, but I was so tempted to buy both pairs!

Reply

Those pjs are so cute! I’m jealous of the ones with the footsies. It’s impossible to find them in adult sizes!

Reply

Morning running is the best. I agree that there always seems to be some sort of hurting during marathon training…hopefully the scraping knocks it out before it becomes any sort of real injury!

Reply

My thought: I am oddly excited for my summer runs. There is something magical about finishing a run drenched in sweat and ready for a popsicle.

Reply

Thursday thought: I really want to drop out of grad school (also Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday thought)

We really need more online support systems for different groups of people! This blog always makes me feel better when you discuss the different therapeutic effects you get from different things (i.e. running, family, carbs)

Reply

My Thursday thought? Thursday went by way too quickly. Friday is a busy day for me, so I’m wishing for Saturday!

Reply

Shoot my website didn’t post! Special attention all current grad students…really hoping to connect with more people in the same situation now to help get through this degree

http://justkeepswimming.blogspot.com/

Reply

That picture of Brooke and your Dad is TOO cute. Im in love!

Reply

This “scraping” thing sounds like so many things recovery-related: painful and DON’T WANNA DO IT but super helpful. You know… ice baths, stretching, foam rolling, the works. ;) You’ve pretty much convinced me to find an ice cold stream to run along on my next long run, though! Loved those pics from a blog last week!

Today’s Thursday Thought: runs are way more fun than sitting in an infrared sauna for 30 minutes, but doing both is pretty A-OK!

Reply

It’s Thursday already? Sad my boys go back to school next week. Nervous for my half this Sunday! Granddaughters r the sweetest with their Papas! Love my boys but there’s something sweet about my daughter and my dad. Brooke is too cute.

Reply

After feeling shattered for weeks i am finally feeling good and strong. I am excited to do my practise 10k on Friday. Can’t wait.
I love that little puppy it is the cutiest. One of my first neices first word was Grandad. So sweet.

Reply

Those flamingo pajamas are pretty fantastic. I bet you could find matching ones…the internet is a magical place :).

My Thursday was FANTASTIC. The baby finally went head down and my sciatica and other pregnancy related complaints seem to have disappeared. WOO.

Reply

The image at the top (are you happy) is what got me out the door for my run yesterday afternoon. Thanks for that!

Reply

Kohl’s has adult flamingo pajamas! I am a HUGE flamingo lover myself, hence everyone around me immediately sends me a text about where they see flamingo items. :)

Hopefully you have a Kohl’s near you, if not, there are a few online.
