Good move Janae.

I went out this morning and had a beautiful 5 mile run @ a 7:23 pace.  When I got back to my car to drive home I realized that the little thing known as my ‘car key’ was locked inside.  Good move Janae.  At least I remembered to take a picture from the outside of my car looking in so that I could share this random information with you.

I walked home (even though I wanted to run… I am trying to be smart about my mileage while getting back into running after taking 12 days off) and Paige took me to get my car a few hours later.

Whenever I come back from injury I really spend a good amount of time focusing on having correct running form.  I should probably always focus on this.

I have showed this chart to you before but I just love it because it is so simple and right on.

NewImage

According to #1… my ‘end of the 5k when I felt like dying’ form is a little off.  Working on keeping my arms relaxed and to the sides at a 90 degree angle.

Kneaders gives you free bread (and pie) samples.  Every restaurant needs to write this into their business model.

First time having this salad in months.  As good as ever.

And a picture of Brooke’s guilty face.  I now have approximately 400 little tiny rubber bands al over the couch, the floor and everywhere else in the entire house.

Dang, that stinks! I’m glad you got your key back though :)

Hope you are having a great day, Janae!!

My youngest hides random stuff in random places…the box of ziploc baggies under the bathroom sink, the mail in a sock drawer, toothbrushes under pillows…stuff like that. I love your crazy ponytail action in that race photo!

Reply

haha, my little sister did something similar to that when she was little, but with paper clips!

I have to work on my arms when I’m running, especially when I’m tired. I was looking at pictures from the end of my 10 miler and my arms were all over the place!

NOM NOM NOM
How can you even get upset with that little guilty face Brooke has mastered? She is the best. I wish I could get her clothes in my size!

My little guy (Brooke’s younger man if she wants) is great at fake coughing if he feels left out. I give him lots of attention for it bc I want him to do it forever.

I Love it!! Adorable — looks like a puppy after they know they’ve done something wrong!

Reply

I’ve done that before! Not fun. Luckily I wasn’t that far from home. About a mile and a half away.

Which also begs the question, why didn’t I just run or walk there in the front place?

I’m pulling the lazy card on this one.

I did a 6 mile progression run today, I’m training for the Women’s Nike Half in DC.

My almost 11 month old blows me kisses when she gets caught doing something she shouldn’t… Haha! I swear she’s a genius!

I’m glad you’re able to run again :)

Reply

Okay, that is adorable!!! I want to hear about how the DC Nike Women’s half goes!

Reply

Hey Heather, I am running the half in DC as well! So excited it is going to be an awesome race!

Where is your floral shirt from? Love that!!!

Thank you! It is from Target:)

Something I really try and work on with easy runs is form. Tim is really into form and core work and since doing both I have improved a lot more I think. Especially core even if it’s 1-2X per week.

I locked my keys in my car a few weeks ago when running in Princeton…I had to wait in the cold for triple A to come. I’m glad you got everything taken care of with that and nice pace on todays run!

Reply

I really need to work on my form – I’m trying to be more aware of it while I’m out on my runs. I’m hoping that a combination of strength, core and form drills will help me stop chicken winging/hunching over!

Oh Brooke…you really can’t get mad at that face can you?

Reply

Those rubberbands? Will be ALL OVER THE HOUSE for months to come. Those rubberbands, as well as beads, are now banned from my house from this day forward.

Reply

I always do silly things with my keys! I spilt water on my key alarm a while ago and had to get towed 50 minutes back to my place! Oopsy :)

I ran 8miles this morning and have been trying to work on my foot strike form so my calves are a little sore from the change in style.

Brooke’s guilty face is so cute :)

Reply

Oooooh locking keys in the car = the worst! I did it once while grocery shopping, so I had all those groceries! I began to cry. Awesome.

She is so cute when guilty. haha

No miles ran today, but plenty of steps taken while dancing! :)

Not recently, but about a year ago my son got the diaper rash cream out and smeared it all over his face!

Sourdough bread is what I imagine heaven tastes like. And anything with cheese baked into it :)

I am going to have to 100% agree with you!

Booty barre today, 10 miles tomorrow.

My little boy kept staring at his arms and hands. I asked him what was wrong? He said, ” They’re getting longer!” He’ll be 3 at the end of the month. I need to write down more of the funny things he says.

Reply

That is absolutely hilarious. He is very observant:)

Reply

I definitely need to work on where I hold my arms when I run. I think I look like I have chicken wings when I run! I ran 6 miles today with 6 X 400 m repeats in there. FIRST time doing 400 m repeats!

Foccacia bread is my fave!!

Reply

I always love me a good salad and THAT salad looks amazing. My running form needs improvement in the cadence area. I always believed that long strides were the way to go before learning that quick turnover and smaller strides are important. Now I am slowly breaking bad habits.

I am participating in an exercise study and had my blood drawn before and after my hour long run – not my favorite day to run!

Reply

My posture is horrible when I get tired. I need to work on it. I ran 10 miles today and I’m quite sure I looked ridiculous for the last two of them.

I love pumpernickle bread with ranch dressing, it is insanely delicious. I promise you.

Reply

My son smeared gum all over his head. I still don’t know where the gum came from since we don’t ever have it… makes me think he found it somewhere.. ugh! Being a good mom.. I read up on how to get it out. Peanut butter should work?? but we only had chunky PB.. and it didn’t work! We ended up bring him into the salon with not only gum, but peanuts and peanut butter all over his head.

Ran 6 miles and another 5.5 cross country skiing (does that count?)

All bread.. Love it! Can’t live with out it..

Running form?: I just remember to relax my hands, keep my arms relaxed by my side, shoulders back and try not to trip and fall.

I actually went to a New Balance running form clinic about a year and a half ago. While wearing my trusty Mizunos I needed to work on just about everything! I was leaning back a bit and heel striking pretty hard. Good news though is barefoot I was spot-on! I still probably have a lot to work on but it would be interesting to go to another clinic and see if there’s been any improvement.

Day off from running today! I think a stroll with baby and the dogs will happen in about an hour!

Reply

Oh no! I’m glad you were able to get back into your car without any trouble. My mom pays for me to have AAA (yes, I am 27 years old and have a job, but moms are moms haha) because I lock myself out of my car too much! The worst was when I was on a road trip and locked the cars in the rental car at a gas station! Oops…

Reply

I’m about to head out for a four-mile run and I’m hoping my knee will keep feeling good! I’ve been out of commission because of it for a couple weeks (and I’ve got a half on Sunday… oops).

I really need to work on my arm form. I feel like I think about it all the time and I just can’t quite get them into a natural position; they are always way too high up.

Reply

I start to heel-strike, cross my arms all over (at angle less that 90), and have my foot land way out in front of me when I’m in the last 50 yards of the finish line. I must look like a maniac… but a joyous maniac, at the very least.

Reply

I have so many issues with form. My arms swing in at times so I focus on having them on a 90 degree angle. My feet to go up straight back, issue with having been a dancer at a younger age. No where near a perfect runner, don’t know if I ever will be.

Reply

Ive got some definite chicken wings when I run.
Had a great 6 miler today watching teen mom 2. Now that is classy.
Fav bread is either the kind at Texas Roadhouse with the special cinnamon butter or that kind at restaurants that you dip in that awesome pesto/olive oil/delicious nixture. Please tell me you know what Im talking about.
Funny kid moment…the 18month old I nanny literally wouldnt let me leave today. He was blocking me every way I went. Kids are the best.

Reply

I’m not great about leaning forward. No run for me today, I did some free weights. I’ll run tomorrow. My favorite bread is Italian bread from an Italian market/bakery. It’s crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. Put a little olive oil and seasoning on a plate, yum yum!
I have a 3 year old that will occasionally fake snore loudly after putting her to bed. It’s hilarious listening to it. She’ll do that for several minutes until she falls asleep for real.

Reply

I NEED to run six, trying to get motivated to go to the gym!

Reply

Favorite bread is definitely sourdough.

My 2 yr old got into his older sisters stash of Girl Scout cookies (that she’s selling), opened a box of thin mints (the only ones he likes) and proceeded to eat one and then show me. I was like what?!? Now I have to buy that box, lol. The funny part was she had about 10 boxes left and only one was thin mints, but he knew exactly which box to open!

I try to think about my running form but somewhere along the way it goes out the window. I need to work on my lean and cadence. I tend to sit back when I run. I also overstride when I am fatigued. It’s a work in progress…

Brooke looks SO MUCH like Curly. Cutest little girls alive :D

I love all of Brookes clothes….she’s by far the best dressed little girl on the planet!
My stepdaughter once told the cashier at cvs (after the nice lady told her how cute she was) that she didn’t like her bc she was ugly…I DIED. it was TERRIBLE…..

I need to work on my cadence, for sure.

I did two therapeutic miles after a long day at work today – a lot faster than I normally run. You can’t think if you’re running fast enough!

San Francisco sourdough. Hands down the best bread ever.

Reply

I have a four week old and she has pooped and spit up on my multiple times today haha! It’s a good thing I love her so much ;)

I can’t think of a particular bread as a favorite, because I love them all, but I had a sandwich a few weeks ago on some insanely delicious olive-rosemary focaccia!! I did 6 easy today, and I definitely need to calm down my arms when I run…

Reply

Can you tell me ( I know you did once before but I can’t remember) where those adorable headbands Brooke is wearing came from? My 6 year old is growing out her bangs and I think she would love those!

I started strength training last week, and I swear it has helped my running form!! I feel faster and stronger!

I didn’t run today but I cross country skiied 3.5 miles.

My fave bread is this cranberry walnut bread from my favorite restaurant. It’s so dense and chewy and delicious!

Reply

I need to focus on the whole mid foot landing. I saw a picture from my last 5k and it looked like there was some heel striking going on! I ran 3.5 treadmill miles today doing speed work so my form was probably terrible. My son is 13 months and gets into EVERYTHING his favorite thing to say is ‘uh oh’ like when he spilled half a gallon of water on the living room rug last week!

Reply

I need to work on leaning forward slightly and also getting my feet turning over faster.

Leaning is such a struggle for me.

Any tips?

After I got injured I have really focused on my form. I really try to focus on making sure I land mid-foot to avoid extra pressure on my femur. I also have started trying to perfect my upper body form because I am often way to tense!!

Reply

I have plenty of running form issues! One is that I tend to bend at the waist instead of straightening. I guess I just get lazy.

Reply

I love sour bread.
I did 12 this morning. It was a beautiful day in northern Utah. Probably just as beautiful in Utah county:)

Reply

My four year old daughter, Summer, is OBSESSED with running FAST! Somehow my husband and I have successfully taught her that healthy foods make you fast and things like candy and soda make you slow. She loves to race her dad every day when he gets home from work, and lately she will come up to me and whisper, “Mom, let’s give Daddy some soda (or candy) today, okay?” She laughs so sneakily and winks at me and it takes everything I have not to just die laughing. She also prays that she will be fast every single night. She cracks me up!

I need to work on all aspects of my running form. If I am treadmill running, I really think about it. If I am outside, I throw it all out.

Reply

My running has been awful lately. I just started working nights and I’m trying to figure out my workouts and sleep. This week has been awesome though – Five runs planned. I’m really focusing on my foot strike and cadence. I’m also working on building my speed again.
I am obsessed with Trader Joe’s whole wheat bread.
My almost 19 year old broke down into sobs when they played the theme song from The Book Thief at the Oscars. Not exactly funny but I almost cried laughing at how emotional she was.

I am in the process of changing my running technique to make myself faster and less prone to injuries. I have mstered the mid-foot strike and the lean, but I need to work on my cadence and get my feet moving faster. Oh, and I need to work on my posture when I get tired – I get so sloppy and my upper body starts swinging around and I tense my shoulders.

I’m not running today as it is cardio day today, which means I will be spending an hour on the elliptical and watching The Carrie Diaries – bliss!!

And my favourite bread is sour dough bread and bread that is fresh from a bakery. It tastes so good! I love it when the crusts are crunchy and the inside is all soft!

Last week, my 1 year old daughter came into the kitchen and shouted DA! Then she proceeded to point into the living room shouting DOG!

I thought it was a bit strange as she only does this when there is a real dog she can see, so I went to investigate…

She walked me towards the empty washing basket and continued shouting DOG! as loud as she could whilst pointing at it.

I picked up the washing basket and said “silly Chloe, this isn’t a dog…” only for my eyes to glance at the spider beast crawlihg down the side of it!

I quickly dropped the basket and caught the spider whilst Chloe continued to shout DOG! until the spider had gone!…

Hopefully, we have no more spiderdogs for a while – they are not cool

What do you use to clip your iPod onto you?? I keep mine in my back zipper pocket but am concerned it’s always all sweaty haha!

OMG I cannot stand those rainbow loom rubber bands! Recently my son forgot about them which was just fine – I packed them up and hid them.

Reply

My daughter does that with rubber hair bands…drives me nuts!!

As far as form, when I get tired my foot falls get sloppy and leads to ankle pain.

I ran 10 miles yesterday. It was a horrible awful run that was slower than my happy pace by 30 seconds per mile and I felt like I was dying the entire time!!! It was one of those runs that makes me doubt my abilities and I’ll focus on this one horrible run instead of all my great ones and it’ll haunt me. Clearly 24 hours later I’m still distressed. Runners are kinda crazy. Lol

Reply

I love Brooke’s guilty look. We have similar rubber bands for the band looms, and they are everywhere.

Good heavens, locking one’s keys in the car is one of the most helpless feelings…ever. I have locked my keys in my Jeep (Wrangler…no power windows or locks, so that makes it EXTRA special) ONCE. A coat hanger, some patience, and thirty minutes later, I got my stinkin’ keys back. Blurgh.

I most definitely need to get my shoulders out of my ears. I hunch them up so high! Relaxxxxxxx, Tiffany… ;)

Have you ever had anadama bread? Delicious! That Kneaders place looks awesome.

I ran 5.825 miles (one lap shy of 6 oops!) at track last night. It was fun but now my darn heels are screaming. I need to google heel pain. Don’t think it is plantar fasciitis though.

Reply

Knock on wood, I have never locked my keys in the car. I have, however, left the trunk partially open and drained the battery one too many times.

I haven’t run yet today, but I’m planning on 5 miles…again.

Reply

My form has gotten much better over the course of my running career. I kept getting injured and I swear it had a lot to with my form so when I run I really do try to focus on it. I find myself standing straight up a lot so therefore I midfoot strike, but the second that I lean forward, it makes the biggest difference in the world!

My favorite type of bread is from a place here called Great Harvest Bread Co. (you would love it!) and they have this delicious cream cheese, raspberry and blueberry swirled bread thing…it’s literally heaven in your mouth!

I didn’t run yesterday, but I am today! I have a 5K on Saturday so I’m just going to get in a few easy treadmill miles at lunch! Happy Thursday :)

Reply

Oh man, I’m glad you were able to get back to your car that day – and close enough to walk home!

Reply

I’m sure you have those picked up by now, but for future easy clean up stick a knee high stocking inside the tube of the vacuum and folder over the end and suck them up. They all go in the stocking and can be easily dumped back into the plastic bag. I know this trick from experience with craft beads and a 3 three year old. oi!

Whether it’s a dog or a child, I cannot resist a guilty face! It’s survival, man. You cannot kill something that cute!

Reply

According to that document I need to just start over with running! haha. I need to make an arm change. I know that I bring them too far in front of my body. Great info. I know that guilty face my youngest gives it to me about 6 times a day :)

Reply

I need to work on midfoot strike. This was painfully apparent to me from race pictures from my half marathon.
Fave bread of the moment is seedy rye bread, I love any bread with a lot of seeds

Oh kneaders! I will see u in april. I agree about the samples. They just know that their stuff is so good it will make u want to buy it.

I ran 2.5 miles today after doing p90x3. Now I really need to work on the food I eat….

My 3yo girl is singing a mixture of let it go and the cups song. Interesting mix.

A 5 mile HIIT run for me!

Reply

Haha. The guilty face kills me!!! She looks so cute in that headband.

And THAT’S why I always lock my car with the keyless entry. I used to always lock my keys in the car before I had a clicker.

Reply

I think I need to work on everything with running form! Ha! I have a really hard time trying to tell if I’m mid-sole striking…

Reply

Ran 8 miles today! Woohoo!

I’m sorry that you locked your key in the car. Last week I went for a run and came back to my car after. Well, I usually keep my actual key in the car and keep the remote in my pocket. But the remote wasn’t working! Then I realized that I was trying to get in someone else’s car. Exact same make & model of my car! This was another Mensa moment for me!
