REMEMBER YOUR LONG TERM GOALS

I skipped my run today.

Screen Shot 2014 02 20 at 12 11 01 PM

(I used a grumpy cat image because when I don’t run on a day that I am scheduled to run it makes me grumpy.  Utah County people–>  if you see me today somewhere and I look like I don’t know how to smile, it is because of the lack of running)

My silly calves are still giving me some problems so I am taking today and tomorrow off from running.  When something is hurting I repeat to myself x 30, ‘REMEMBER YOUR LONG TERM GOALS.’  That helps me realize that it is so much better to take a few days off now than being forced to take weeks/months off later on because I am stubborn.  I don’t want to make an ache an injury because I don’t take off enough time from running to get it better.  Getting to the starting line of the UV Marathon is my long term goal right now… not running on February 20, 2014.

I did a pump class and then the sis and I worked out in my fancy home gym.  We watched Parks and Recreation, one of the funniest shows around, and I spent some time on my spin bike.

My mom is becoming quite the professional blog photographer.

I couldn’t find my softball this morning so I used the lemon from Brooke’s toy kitchen to roll out my calves.  It worked.

Another meal at home today?!?  This may be a record since I moved back to Utah.  Black beans, corn, rice, carrots, chicken, spinach, bbq sauce and ranch.

I am really looking forward to something exciting.  Paige and I are going to a donut truck in just a few minutes for our first time.  We have heard nothing but good about this place and donuts are in fact our favorite food so today is the day to go.

Isn’t it adorable?

NewImage

I also have a lofty goal that I just now set.  My goal is to visit every single one of these donut shops from the list of the 101 Amazing American Doughnut Shops.

I better get to work… I guess I am coming to NYC again soon.

What was the reason for the last time that you skipped a run?

Do you have any weights/gym equipment etc. at home?  What?

Your absolute #1/top/favorite food right this second?  (This is a mandatory question)

-Donuts followed closely by my mom’s lasagna.

Last time I skipped runs was because I broke my pinky toe! Number one food right now: sugar cookies. Then salt and pepper baguette. Then pesto pasta.

Reply

I have some home equipment, a bike trainer, free weights, treadmill, I’d rather work out at home than at a gym, though outside workouts trump all.

Favorite food right now – um, anything you put in front of me. I’m kind of hungry and everything sounds good.

Last time I skipped a run it’s because I was just too lazy. I told myself I had a better reason, but that’s the real honest one.

Reply

I usually skip runs when I’m too tired (since I’m a morning runner). My number one favorite food right now is FRUIT. Blueberries, grapes, blackberries. I’ve been a fruit eating machine.

Reply

You need to come to Philly for Federal Donuts too! They only serve donuts and fried chicken – quite the combo :)

I have been skipping runs because of weather and ice. We have nearly a FOOT of ICE on some roads around me!

Reply

I havent skipped a run lately…but tthats also because I haven’t planned any runs lately lol I have a treadmill and hand weights at home that def help me out when the weather is nasty and/or I can’t make it to the gym.

Reply

I like to roll my feet and calves with a frozen water bottle.

I skipped because of calf pain. Took an ice bath and went to the chiropractor for an ART session. Worked great.

Loving avocados and apples with peanut butter. I will be making cookies and cream popcorn today, so I’m sure I will love that too.

I only have a roller, yoga ball, and a few dumbbells at home right now.

We watched the Great Food Truck Race. Sadly, we seem to only have taco trucks around here.

Reply

I skipped a run on Tuesday due to general fatigue but felt really guilty so on Wednesday did a 10mile at race pace. Turned out I ran a 10mile PB. Who knew rest could be good for you!?

I have no workout equipment at home just my roller for my legs.

Right this second I’d love a thin crust pizza with sausage bacon and onions on top. Can i have apple pie with cuatard aswell??

Ice cream followed by pizza! I want some of your mom’s lasagna!

Hang in there and get those calves feeling better! Long term injuries are the worst so do everything to avoid that. :-)

I can totally relate this post today.

I had a 10 mile race on the schedule for this weekend (for fun) but had to switch to the 5 mile race because I knew my body wasn’t up for a 10 mile race after this week’s training. I had to tell myself, running a 10 mile race this weekend is not my long term goal so it’s not worth risking an injury over.

So my plan is do the 5 mile race on Saturday and do a nice easy long run on Sunday to get some extra miles in.

There will also be lots of Chipotle eaten in-between.

I have just a few dumbbells at home, not much. But I did like an hour of yoga during naptime because I deal with anxiety sometimes, and it was wonderful! Don’t need much equipment for that, just the ol’ iPad!

Donut truck…okay, I NEED to get accepted to the dental hygiene program so we can go there everyday this fall, okay? Okay! I’m actually trying to convince my husband that we need to have a food truck where he makes empanadas! (Maybe I should learn how to spell that first…)

Favorite food right this minute…oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. I’m eating one right now and feel justified because I made them with wheat flour instead of white, soooo, no guilt, right? :)

And one more paragraph to the world’s longest comment….I would LOVE it if you posted your spin workout when you do it at home!

Reply

I would also love it if you’d post your spin workout!!

BriAnne, what app do you use for yoga at home? I’m trying to start doing some yoga but not sure what app is good!

My favourite food is hummus and pitta. I could eat that all day long :/

Reply

Alice, I actually just do Erin Motz’s youtube videos! Look up 30 Day Yoga Challenge on You Tube and you can sign up for the daily emails, or they are all right there on YouTube. I also do her 10 day challenge that is just for the core! I LOVE her stuff!!

Reply

Thanks BriAnne! I will check that out :)

I can relate! I tore a liagament a couple of months ago and tried to exercise through it as it’s my job – now I’m not allowed to teach my fitness classes – my favourite thing to do! My physio has me doing stretches every day to strengthen the leg up and it’s frustrating – moves I could do easily before are painful and I can’t do them properly. However…. The goal is to get back to teaching body combat, I miss it!! I definitely agree with being safer rather than sorrry! A big lesson that I have learned! How they feel better tomorrow!

I use the mantra “Stay the Course” sometimes, I had IT Band issues recently and really had to force myself to be patient and let my aches go away. Working great so far. That donut truck is awesome.

Last skipped a run – IT Band pain
Gym equipment – One of those at home work out bench things
#1 Food – Chipotle, had it for lunch, love that place

The last time I skipped a run was because I got injured from not skipping runs when I needed to. Lesson learned – loud and clear.
Sorry you had to take time off – but I’m glad that you are preventing an injury! You will rock your race :)

Reply

I skipped a run a couple weeks ago and did light cross training after work instead. I was feeling tired and burned out, I had two days off of running, and came back to my next run feeling much better. I love your grumpy cat picture though!! That really does sum it all up! If you ever need a laugh, search for grumpy cat on Pinterest!

I have a treadmill and weights at home. I have quite a few Jillian DVDs and T25, so I have several different options. My food obsession right now is Red Velvet Cake Pop Tarts! I knew the second I bought them I’d be in trouble… yup, they won’t last long!

Reply

Favorite food is peanut butter (SMOOTH!) and jelly (GRAPE!) on soft wheat bread, microwaved for about 15 seconds… yum.

You are smart to take time off. I am dragging myself to track tonight. I know it will be a blast once I am there but after working all day it is tough to go!

The last time I skipped a run was because I cross-country skied instead.

Reply

I am obsessed with cupcakes at the moment. But they have to be from one particular store called Cupcake Central in Melbourne. I love their Red Velvet cupcakes as the cream cheese frosting is to die for!

The last run I missed was last week. Actually, I missed a few as I was sick with a cold/flu thing. I was really upset as I ended up missing out on a fun run around the zoo as I was too sick to run. But thankfully I am better now and back running.

I have a little gym at home. I have my own treadmill, a fitball, a bosu ball, medicine ball, 2 x 4kg weights, a yoga mat, foam roller and some resistance bands. I also have some workout DVDs, however my mum has stolen them from me, which is okay.

Reply

Last time I skipped a run was due to the cold weather. I just can’t run when its below 30 degrees out. Hitting the gym for a run tonight though.
I have a bowflex, an extra thick yoga mat, 10lb & 15lb hand weights. I am looking at getting a treadmill, but super nervous about getting a bad one.
My favorite food right this second… hmmm anything fruity… a banana sounds amazing right now =)

Reply

Oh man, I’m dealing with the exact same thing right now and skipping a couple of days in the interest of staying healthy for the long-term. It’s hard, but definitely the right move. I keep repeating BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY, BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY and picturing all of the spring/summer runs that I have planned. Rest up, girl!

Reply

After a few injuries I have learned that long term goals are way more important than short. I was kind of in the same shoes yesterday…I didn’t run because I was tired and didn’t want the stress on my body. It was a great choice on my part and I had a good run today. Will I reach my long term PR goal in a half because of yesterday? No. Will I reach it because of today? No…but both of them together combined with all my other runs is how you achieve that.

You need to come to NYC. First, it’s 90 minutes from me and you could stay at my house. Second, I freaking love donuts.

Reply

I just got done with a two week hiatus from running and was reintroduced to my running shoes this morning. I had a little extra pep in my step today and it felt great! I don’t have any gym equipment at home, but I do have a trainer/bike setup. My favorite food right this minute is popcorn!

Reply

I am the same way. I am grumpy when I don’t get to run on a day I am supposed to run. I warn my family ahead of time because I know I won’t be my usual peachy self. I planned for a long run on Monday, Presidents Day sisnce I had the day off work, and it didn’t happen. I use a sand ball at home for ab work and my neighborhood has a free small gym our HOA provides. I use this a lot for arm work.
Funny, my obsession lately is like yours, salads with beans and corn and it has been that way for months now! Only I prefer a restaurant made salad. Zuppas bbq chicken salad is my fav right now. And Recess Pieces!

Reply

As a NYC reader, I’m going to do my part and get started on this list for you. :)

Reply

Right this second? Tamales AND donuts. I’ve been on a donut kick since last year when I got pregnant and I craved them! And now I’m STILL in love with them! There is a 3 mile donut run that I just found in my area the end of March – I think it’s a must that I do it. You have to eat a donut hole at every mile and donuts at the end – from 10 DIFFERENT LOCAL BAKERIES!!!!! WOOO HOOOO!!!!!!

Reply

I almost skipped my run yesterday because I just didn’t feel like it, but at the last second I threw on my shoes and headed out the door. I did contemplate turning around though once I was out there, but it was just one of those days I guess!

I only have resistance bands and the bender ball at home…I hardly ever use the resistance bands, but I use the bender ball every night and it’s done wonders for my abs!

My favorite food right now…that is a really really hard question! I love ice cream…does that count? And sweet potatoes and avocados :)

Reply

Last time I skipped a run was… 2 saturdays ago. I had work all day and I just felt like absolute death.

I have 5 pound weights and an agility rope at home. And a yoga mat!! Does that count?

My food obsession of the moment is raw broccoli dipped in honey mustard. So. Good.

Reply

Every run I have skipped the last 2 months is because of the weather. The treadmill gives me serious pain in my left leg no matter WHAT i do on it after 2 miles, and its been too icy and dangerous out to run. Today I finally got out and it was the best run of my life just because i was outside!!!

Nothing in my tiny little NYC apartment. I try to get John to let me get a spin bike at least but he says he doesnt want to give up our bed so that i can have a spin bike in there. I dont get it either.

Your absolute #1/top/favorite food right this second?

RIGHT this second its my dads raisin bran muffins. PROMISE they arent as healthy as they sound… he loads it with brown sugar but they are the best things ever!!

Reply

OMG and I have been to a few of those donut places! DOUGH is the absolute BEST!!!!

Reply

Your list is missing all the great Chicago donut shops! And you’re making me hungry. Hope your calves feel better soon.

Reply

I’ve skipped the last two days because of a head cold that won’t go away (probably because I wouldn’t skip training days last week). I’m kind of going nuts.

Funny, there are no donut places in the west. Seriously what’s up with the East Coast and donuts?

I have 3 lbs weights, a yoga mat and a subscription to Gaiam TV. Not exactly a home shredder.

Your BBQ salad looks yum. I had birthday cake for dinner and breakfast, so I think my food obsession currently resides in the baked goods category.

Reply

I’m going to NYC next month — I’ll get on that donut list for you ;)

Reply

If you are ever in Austin, TX, you need to check out Gourdough’s. They are a donut food truck and they will BLOW your mind. Their menu is insane and it puts me into a diabetic sugar shock just reading it! http://www.gourdoughs.com/

All I’ve got at home is 10 lb dumbbells. It takes a lot to motivate myself to use them. I’d rather lift donuts :)

Reply

I originally read donut truck as donut track. I was thoroughly confused until I scrolled to the picture.

My favorite food right now? Godiva Dark Chocolate Almond. Though I just ate way too much of it. So I may need to change that.

Reply

Hummus.

Also I’m impressed your skipping runs mean other forms of working out. If I don’t run, I don’t exercise. (Except I went cross country skiing twice. In my life.)

Reply

I love Korean sweet potatoes. That’s the food I’m lovin’ right now.
And I skipped my run on Monday and did a switcharoo of my training runs to still make it work (it was more like a scheduling issue than anything else).

Reply

Peter Pan bakery is the best! I don’t even love donuts but I LOVE DONUTS FROM PETER PAN BAKERY! Next time you are in NY, you must must must get there. The crème filled munchkins are terrific. And a chocolate glazed…

Reply

Brooke’s hair/outfit are absolutely adorable!!!

I skipped my run tonight as my tummy was feeling queasy and I didn’t want to push it. Good for you for being able to think long term!!!

Reply

I have skipped runs for the past week because my stupid knee still hurts. It is SUCH a bummer. Favorite food always forever: avocados. Or chips and guacamole. Or black beans and corn. Probably anything Mexican. Or a fresh baked chocolate chip cookie. I’m really decisive.

Reply

Grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwiches :)

Reply

Currently it’s falafel. My husband took me to a falafel truck for Valentine’s Day. Gotta love New York for its food trucks!

Reply

I live in NYC and have only been to doughnut plant. I better check out those others on your list stat!
I actually skipped this past Tuesdays run. I did a tough snowy 10k trail race and a 14 mile long run back to back last weekend and felt I needed an extra rest day. It’s a step back week so it made it easier to make the decision.

My favorite food right now are these quinoa bowls I get from a place near my office called Fresh &co. I get the Mediterranean one with kale, olives, feta, shrimp and quinoa. Delish!! And pretzel m&ms have been a new love as of late

Reply

Haven’t been running in the past few weeks because of what looks like a tibia stress fracture… Going a little crazy. Probably should have taken it easy when it started hurting instead of racing xc skiing, and running through it… A girl can only do so many ab and arm workouts… Favorite food right now: Celery with peanut butter (or hummus works too).

Reply

Yes! Atkins has the best apple cider donuts! I have had them a few times visiting my sister in MA. You should go there for sure :)

Reply

I have a cold, so I didn’t run yesterday or today. I also had to remind myself of my long-term goals so I didn’t feel bad about skipping out.

Treadmill, exercise DVDs, hand weights, and yoga mats make up my home gym. Kinda boring.

The frozen chocolate cream pie in my freezer (totally calling my name) is my top #1 food right now. I’m exerting massive amounts of will-power and not eating it yet.

Did your sister go lighter in her hair? It looks great!

Reply

*darker. Silly Liz. Did your sis go darker?

Reply

So #12 Kane’s is sooooo good! I was never a donut lover until I went there. I currently live 2.5 miles from it and while I was pregnant I was there quite often. I think I need to go tomorrow now! Seriously if you are ever in Boston it is worth the short drive to try this place!

Reply

I’m obsessed with avocados right now! They’re good on just about everything. Magic little fruits!
I skipped my run today to sleep. Sometimes sleep wins.

Reply

I just skipped 9 days of running because we were in Panama. I thought I might be able to get some running in, but it didn’t happen. I see it as an opportunity to rest the body. I have a complete gym at home but just sold my treadmill so need something to fill in that space :) Favorite food would have to be fajitas topped with the guacamole, sour cream and salsa! I never tire of it.

Hope those calves start feeling better soon!! Take care.

Reply

I last skipped a run while on a business trip. I was working a trade show for the week and doing a tempo run on swollen feet and legs after walking around for 10+ hours sounded like a terrible idea.

I felt horribly guilty and like I’d ruined my training (I only ran 20 of my planned 32 mile week and I’m working towards my first marathon in April), but I picked everything up the next week and, luckily, have been fine. I was nervous about injuring myself from taking two cutback weeks in a row, but I’ve been feeling good!

Reply

Reading this post just made me feel better. My right hip has been super tight/sore and I haven’t run in a couple days. I want to run today since it feels a lot better, but it’s still tight. My running coach said not to run, but I so want to…. it’s important to think big picture like you said though.

Favorite food right this minute? Mushroom ravioli :)

Reply

You said it!

My silly Stress fracture would have been WELL better served with two weeks off when I began to feel discomfort instead of…8 months aye, ye, ye! Hope your day off is just what your calves need!

That is fabulous about the food truck! I coordinate food trucks coming to my office twice er week and it is hands down my favorite part of my job haha! Today we had gourmet grilled cheese and homemade soft serve trucks yummmm

Reply

Don’t listen to that list next time you’re in NYC! You need to go to the Donut Pub on 14th Street. Life changing.

Reply

Dang. I lived & worked in NYC forever and never once went to any of those Donut shops. What a fail.

Reply

ps. I hope you don’t mind if I instagram the pic. I have to tell my peeps in NY to check it out and report back. ;)

Reply

I need to tackle that donut list. I have recently reignited my obsession with donuts and they are delicious. Why did we part ways?

Reply

P.S. just read the donut list and one place is two blocks from my running club… danger.

I usually have to skip a run if I’m traveling!

I REALLY hope you get to run Utah Valley Marathon because I might be there!! My mom and I might be taking a road trip out to Utah (we live in Michigan) to see my cousin in SLC and I want to run UV half marathon! Right now I’m eating sweet potato + apple + almond butter + cottage cheese + cinnamon. It is tasty!!

OMG, you have to go to the Donut Plant! Their donuts are amazing. The creme brulee is my favorite

I’ve skipped a couple runs lately thanks to this flipping FLU bug. Whomp whomp . . .

I skipped a run today because I wanted to hang out with my husband instead. Totally valid reason, right? I think so :)

Reply

here is another who read…she’s going to a donut track. what is that? wait, thought she wasn’t running. hope that makes you laugh despite the no running grumpiness. I’ve been known to have that type of grumpiness.

Reply

I actually skipped my run today as well! So weird. My legs were pretty heavy after this crazy workout I did yesterday! I just have some weights, but would love a tmill! And right now I am loving Greek yogurt. Can’t. Get. Enough.

Reply

Sweet list! I will be trying Monroe’s in Jackson tomorrow!

Reply

I also skipped a run today because my calves are very sore. Like walking funny sore.

Reply

Thank you for this post today, it’s exactly what I needed.
I got to the gym today and every single treadmill was taken, so I was forced onto the bike… I resented every minute of my workout and left the gym feeling unaccomplished and unsatisfied; all I wanted to do was get my run in.
But seeing this reminds me that it’s really just one day out of many, and I really shouldn’t get mad about missing one run.
Oh and I hope your doughnut was fantastic!! (:

Reply

Odd, I had to skip my workout today too. I have a 3 cm femoral stress fracture, which you know is the absolute WORST. I’m getting impatient and I just want to run! How did you get through such a tough injury? I’m going on 3 months with this and I am really having a hard time with my recovery. I just want to run again, so the elliptical is getting goshdarn boring…..

P.S. Happy belated valentine’s day to you and the lovely brooke :) sending lots of love your way! (and hopefully you’ve eaten a TON of chocolate)

Reply

The cinnamon snail doughnuts are incredible. Their food truck started in Hoboken nj where I live, then moved into NYC last year. It was devastating but happy they are flourishing there. They are vegan (as is all their food) but definitely worth finding in The city! Too bad you can’t mail them……

Reply

Last time I skipped a run was today. And the day before. And every day since Monday the 10th (yes I’m keeping track of the days). Running injuries make me very sad. I have two 6.6 pound weights (weird I know), two sets of 3 pounders, and an extremely old, scary treadmill. I really need more equipment but one of the top reasons I love running is that it’s cheap…unlike gym equipment. ;) Favorite food?! Just one??? That’s way too difficult of a question. I would have to say anything with chocolate in it. I hope that counts. :)

Reply

You should definitely add Duck Donuts to your list. They are on the coast of North Carolina in the outer banks and are AMAZING. They also have a couple locations in southern virginia as well.

Reply

The last time I skipped a run was because I was sick.

I have a treadmill and a yoga mat and that’s about it.

My favorite food right now is chocolate. Valentine’s day candy is everywhere!

I must say, I live in Cambridge (outside Boston, next to Somerville) and Union Square Donuts are DEFINITELY worth the hype!!

I hate when you have a run planned and end up not being able to do it :(. You did make a good choice though. That one run is definitely not worth getting injured!

Wow looks like I have some serious donut eating I need to do when I am in NYC next month for the 13.1 race series. A 13.1 mile run deserves a donut! mmmm

I have to skip runs all the time. Even though I have a 16 week training schedule I have to constantly adjust it for work. Go with the flow….
I have nothing at home except a band and a foam roller. If I’m home I won’t work out. Fact.

Favorite food right now? Feels like everything…Feeling taste good dressed in chocolate.

I had to comment today. I’m from the Midwest but vacationing in San Diego this week. I made my family go to B.J.’s so I could have a pizookie. It was absolutely amazing (actually we shared a trio of different kinds)!

I skipped a run today because my shins are feeling shin splint-y (again) and I don’t want to mess my lower legs up (again) for the long run :( My roommate and I have a treadmill plus random other stuff (random weights, bands, and yoga mats.. plus a weighted hula hoop) in an extra room :) It’s the best hash

Reply

Good for you for not running. I know it’s so darn hard. Hang in there. And donuts- I think about them the majority of every race. LOL. Hugs!

Oh that is sad. You should keep your legs in warm water for 10- 15 minutes that will help you and you will feel relaxed.

I think it’s weird all the best shops are in the northeast! Maybe it’s time I open an award-winning donut shop in the midwest :)

I LOVE PARKS AND RECREATION!!!

Skipped my run today because of tight calves as well. I had a really great long run yesterday so I didn’t feel as bad. Did a wicked full body workout and took the dog for an hour walk. Still missed running.

I travel from place to place (no home base, I either live on ships, rehearsal apartments, or my in laws house) but I ALWAYS have resistance bands, wrist weights and P90X and Insanity on DVD with me :) prepared!

Favorite food right this second is Sunbutter. I want to eat it out of the jar 24/7. I want to put it on sweet potatoes, I dip my carrots in it and I want it on ice-cream, brownies and oreos right now!

Reply

I’ve got enough home equipment to open my own gym! Well, it would be a small membership, but we’d all gt fit! I’ve got weights from 5-25lbs, a stationary bike and treadmill, plus some exercise bands, BOSU and a foam roller. And don’t forget my boxing gloves! Wow– looks like a lot when I type it all out!

Reply

Why is it that all your posts these days are, like, exactly what I need to hear/ what’s going on in my life!? I skipped my run this morning. I was just too tired to get out of bed, and my knee has been hurting after about 3-4 miles into runs lately. I still have another 2 weeks hard training to go for my marathon until I taper, so I really don;t want to aggravate it. I felt it in bed this morning, and was like, no. But, then the stupid thing was, I was so tired but kept myself awake for another 30 minutes beating myself up about NOT running! Sooo counterproductive!

My fave food right now is hummus! I can’t seem to get enough of it!

Reply

I skipped my 7 mile run this morning actually and havent ran as long as i should have all week. i was kinda stubborn and didnt listen to my sisters and bf who told me that i was going a little crazy in the workout department for the past few weeks and now my body is feeling it…just so tired mentally and physically. so i cut back this week and took completely off this AM and it felt great!

I have the new set of body pump weights that just got release- love them!!!!

chocolate chip cookie dough frozen yogurt— so good. i made a batch and every night i come home from work and go straight to the freezer

Are you still teaching spinning?

I’m glad you took a rest day – your health is important!

I’ve been fighting a cold since Saturday morning, so I have been resting all week. Last night was the first time I could breath from my nose, so I ran three miles on my treadmill.

I have a treadmill, spin bike, weight bench and a bunch of weights at home. I am in the process of putting together my gym, but right now it’s a cross between storage and a gym. :)

Favorite food? I have so many! I’d have to say right now my favorite food is sweet potatoes. I could eat them every day!

PS – I have had Kane’s donuts and they are amazing! Also, Verna’s in Cambridge, MA are so good! When you come visit MA, I will take you! :)

I have a small apartment….no room for a treadmill or anything. I missed a run on tuesday (and it was gorgeous…65 degrees and beautiful…considering Tennessee has had more snow and cold than we have in a long time-5 inches of snow last Wednesday alone)….I was supposed to be picking up my Mizuno wave inspire 9’s, seeing as I have read a lot of complaints about the 10’s, but they were a return and could have been worn for 30 days already…that means up to 200 miles could have been on those shoes, and they looked worn…was not paying over $90 for used shoes! Needless to say, I spent all afternoon searching for shoes, and settled on some New Balance ones until I can find a Mizuno or Brooks pair I like.

Unfortunately I have skipped lots of runs this training season for a number of reasons: shin splints, stress fracture, illness, knee pain, and most recently IT Band issues. My half marathon is less than a month away so I am kinda freaking out that I have missed so much training. I know I will be able to finish the race, but I’m scared I will be doing a lot of walking. I have two long runs left before tapering starts, so hopefully I can get through those without doing any damage. I haven’t been doing my scheduled shorter runs during the week hoping that my legs would recover inbetween long runs on the weekends, but I have been doing lots of walking and foam rolling.

I don’t have any workout equipment at home :(

My favorite food right now is cheese. Love it!

Sooo smart to remember that your short-term goals shouldn’t get in the way of your long-term ones. Thanks for the reminder!

Also, what is this donut truck magic???????

Love that donut list and I can attest to the donuts at Atkins Farms in Amherst, MA. We used to live there and would stop to get their famous apple cider donuts at the end of long bike rides or runs. We were traveling through the area last summer and introduced our kids to their deliciousness, too!

I live right around the corner from #13. :) Union Sq Donuts. They are actually sold at our winter farmer’s market on Saturdays, as well. Hubby is a big fan, and I am sadly allergic. But they smell amazing.

To heal up a nagging pain. I always cross train with something else. Right now, spinning is my top choice.

Almond butter on pretty much anything!

I was going to say that my favorite food right now is a chocolate chip cookie, but that salad picture now has me craving one. Or a donut. Apparently I am hungry even though its not quite time for lunch…

Favorite food right now?? Oranges!! They are super refreshing after running in Arizona!
Sorry, to hear about your calf, Hang in there!! My coach constantly tells me to focus on going forward. And sometimes that means taking a day or two off so that our future becomes exactly what we are working towards. Make sure you ICE ICE ICE.. I know it is a pain, especially being in Utah, but my running doctor tells me that I cant ice too much. I have 2 minor injuries I am running through and icing a few times a day is my life saver! Best of luck, and Hopefully I can see you when you come to AZ in a few weeks. I may be able to cheer you on when you race.

I’ve been to the cinnamon snail food truck in NYC and everything they serve is AMAZING!

I’ve been sick for the past couple weeks, although it feels like forever. And the weather in NYC is spotty to say the least. I don’t have a gym membership because I keep thinking I can always do exercises at home or outside but this weather has derailed my outdoor plans. I have weights at home and I do aerobic or Zumba type exercises in my living room or run around the room for 20 mins to raise my heart rate.
I’m in NYC but I haven’t visited those donut shops. Foods I am obsessed with right now: roasted vegetables. Sweet potatoes are my fav food but I have also been adding chunks of carrots, squash and mushroom caps and roasting everything. Healthy addiction. I’m making a big batch this evening and I’ll post pics on my blog. http://runwright.net. Hope you can check it out.

I took a day off from exercise yesterday….my body just needed a break! Sometimes it’s hard to remember that rest is a part of training, too!

No gym equipment at home for me….I’ve always wanted a “Total Gym” (that thing that Chuck Norris and Christie Brinkley do ads for)

TOP/FAVORITE FOOD THIS MOMENT: Bobsled Brownie Ice Cream from Baskin Robbins. It’s all I can think about………

I live right next to NYC and didn’t know about these places- better get to work!! ;)

oh salted peanuts in the shell…I can’t get enough of them

I have a theory…your calves hurt because they are growing…to make you faster :) If that’s even possible you speedy girl!! Let them rejuvenate and you will be rocking your upcoming races!!

The last time I skipped a run it was because of snow/ice/bad weather. But before that it was probably because something was hurting. I have a bunch of workout stuff at home but I would love to have a home gym someday! Right now my favorite food is an awesome New York bagel…I grew up in NY and now I live in MD and the bagels here are just not the same:(

yup! You’re definitely overdue for a trip here :)

I live right down the street from Union Square donuts. The Maple Bacon Donut IS BEYOND AMAZING!!!!!!!!

Ouch, better to rest than to continue running and having an even worse injury. I currently can’t run, due to stitches under my arm. So the past month I have been a grumpy puss. I did my first 1km of light running, which meant strapping my arm to my chest so I wouldn’t move it. I am happy once again. Thankfully I can start running properly again at the end of the week, all whilst keeping my goals in mind :).

Add Federal Donuts in Philadelphia to your list! They make the best donuts I’ve ever eaten there, and they are super creative with their flavors. :)

Janae! My fiance and I live in CT and because of this post we made it our goal this weekend to visit #10 on the list, Speedy. Thank goodness you posted this otherwise we might have missed out on these amazing donuts!

I drive past a donut shop on my way to and from the gym! It is torture!

Luckily, my #1 indulgence isn’t donuts, so I’m able to avoid the temptation for the most part. If it were an ice cream shop, however, I’d be in big trouble. Earl Grey ice cream with a scoop of chocolate from Mallard Ice Cream up in Bellingham, Washington. Hands down.

The last time I skipped a run it was due to the ice. Stupid Iowa winters.
We have an exercise bike which has been a life saver this winter!
My favorite food right now is cobb salads…obsessed with them!!

So jealous of that donut truck!
