My mom is a smart woman.  For my bday she got me a race outfit to wear for my next half marathon (3/1).  She knows that new running clothes kind of make me beyond happy. THESE TANKS are my new favorite running tanks because they are so so soft, they are long, seamless and they come in fun colors.  I also love the long sleeve versions and you can find the shorts HERE!

Phoenix, here I come.

We hit up the movies with the cousins.

And the Lego movie was a success.  Brooke lasted almost the entire movie.  Picture taken during the part before the previews… don’t worry, I am not that ridiculous about taking pictures and doing it during the actual movie.

IMG 8130

I just really like this picture so I am throwing it in.  Those eyeballs of hers.

We hung out at my sister’s house and she made me a fancy salad for a snack.  It had every veggie possible in there, feta, cranberries and our favorite salad dressing.

Also, I have been really trying hard to actually drink water.  Some experts say it is good for your running;)

Many experts say that Thai food and girlfriends are extremely good for your soul.

Just had to drag out the birthday for one more day and go celebrate over large amounts of rice and my favorite massaman curry.  Coconut milk, I really love you.

And then we were obviously quite successful at taking a selfie outside in the freezing cold.

Speed work TUESDAY!!!  Somehow I am starting to look forward to speed work.  The feeling you get after doing a hard workout is soooo worth your legs/lungs/every part of your body hurting for a few miles.

March 2! I’m calling it a birthday race because my bday is the day before so my fun bday meal will have to wait until the day of the race :)

I like going out for French, Italian, and Thai! And I’m doing speedwork today, 8×800 which is just my least favorite ever so I’m putting it off as best I can but I know it’s out there lurking…

Thai food and sushi are my top picks. Wait til you go to Thailand though, once you get back the Thai food you know now will pale in comparison to the real thing. It makes me want to go back lol.

I don’t have any races scheduled yet for 2014, we have a move coming up so I haven’t been thinking of much else. I’m sure I will register for a few this Spring/Summer though. Love the new running outfit your mom got you!

Reply

Thai is definitely the best food ever. I would choose that or Indian food every time.

I’m not signed up for any races at the moment and since I haven’t run more than 7 miles at a time in the last 5 months, I think I’m ok with that.

Reply

I got a 3.5 mile HIIT run in today. Nothing crazy, I have some wicked hot spots on my arches right now. Time for new socks.

Also, those shorts are adorable! Good luck in a couple weeks!

Reply

You are going to be the best dressed at Phoenix!

This coming Sunday is my next half marathon (the Princess Half at Disney)! :) When I ran my first 5K this race was the one I was really thinking about. It seems so crazy that the day is finally almost here where I will run it. I originally wanted it to be my first half, but I got too impatient and ended up doing one last year. I’m glad I did because now I know I can run the distance, and am going into this weekend relaxed and confident!

Girlfriend’s are definitely good for the soul, but Thai food? Not so much… at least not for -this- girl’s soul (pesky peanut allergies). I actually really love going out for Meixcan, possibly because I feel like they don’t use a lot of peanuts in their food…. or possibly because I adore anything and everything that involves cheese, guac, salsa, and chips :D

Reply

Oh man. Me, too. I don’t eat cheese (migraine trigger) but I LOVE Mexican food. Love.it.

Reply

Brooke is so cute! I hope my little girl is as sweet as she is :-) favorite salad dressing is bleu cheese!!!! So good! Tj does make some good ones though!

Reply

LOVE speedy Tuesday! I did a short (8×400 @5kish pace) speedy thing during my regular 7 miler this morning and it was great! I managed negative split- amazingness!

I’m racing a half this weekend- my first real effort since coming back from my stress fracture. Hopefully it isn’t eembarrassing!

Reply

When I go out to eat, I want sushi or The Cheesecake Factory….My run today was an easy few miles broken up with intervals on the elliptical machine. The treadmill can get so boring day after day!

Reply

Masaman curry is my *favorite*! When I lived in Florida I used to go to this place that used to put sweet potatoes and cashews in it–it was heaven! I still think it is the king of the curries. :) And I love your new race outfit! I think I’m going to try for a short recovery run today, nice and easy, just to stretch my legs out.

Reply

My husband makes the best balsamic dressing.. (light olive oil, garlic cloves, mustard..not the bright yellow stuff, and balsamic vinegar)

Mexican and Chinese food are my favorites!

Easy 6 miles. I took 2 days off to go ski and just am not feeling like running!

Reply

I usually go for a balsamic vinagerette on my salad. Favorite food to eat out is italian but I also love going to a fancy steak house once in a while! Today is a rest day for me…after a bunch of hard workouts it feels great!

Reply

Check out Trader Joe ‘a Champagne Pear Vinegarette! It’s our new obsession. So delicious!!!!

Reply

I’ve been really into salads lately myself. I swear I’ve made 10 in the last week. My favorite dressing is either Greek or Italian. I

My next race is the lake effect half marathon next Sunday (the race I’ve been fundraising for!). I’m pretty excited to see the end result :-)

Reply

I didn’t even know Gap made workout clothes – I never would have thought to look there! A new running outfit is the best motivator. My next race is the Disney Princess Half on Sunday and my sister made us costumes – we are Anna and Elsa from Frozen. So, my new running outfit is Anna-inspired. It’s too bad that I’ve hardly trained at all for this half – it will be my worst half ever. But at least we get to experience Disney!!!

Reply

I love posts with Brooke’s pictures!
Chinese and Indian food is the best

Reply

Love Thai food and yes I believe it is good for the soul. Just had it this weekend with m sister, she broke her shoulder bone and I was taking care of her.
Broke my PR last night, slow for you, but fast for me 8.49 mile!

Have fun doing speed work! I love the running outfit and yes, Brooke’s eyeballs are fabulous ;)

Reply

I love new running clothing! They somehow make me run faster!

I haven’t run in almost a week :-(. The snow storm and then sickness has kept me inside, but I can’t wait to run today!

Reply

My next race is my first half this coming Sunday! Ah!

Reply

Aren’t girlfriends the BEST! Love it. I just got back from Africa have not run in 10 days – trying to find the motivation and beat the jet lag. When going out to eat I am a huge fan of Mexican food!

Reply

Am in love with Thai food as well. And Japanese food. Tonight I’m making a chicken & prawn laksa, and it’s going to be awesome.

My next race is…. I don’t know! I’m trying to find a half marathon on 30th March to fit in with marathon training. There’s one near London, which means travel & hotels, which means ££££.

Today I’m doing 7 miles, with 4*fast and 400m recoveries. I’m literally about to head out now.

Awesome running clothes! We’re heading to the US for a holiday in April (can’t wait!) and I am going to stock up on running clothes and Apple products. Or maybe just one Apple product in case my credit company gets mad at me.

Reply

LOVE Brooke’s little outfit. Such a cutie.

Next race day: March 15! Eeeek, it’s going to be here before I know it!

My favorite salad dressing would probably either be Trader Joe’s Cranberry Gorgonzola or poppyseed dressing.

Reply

Curly looks adorable in your new outfit! I would have to say Mexican and Chinese are my faves. :)

I just did a PR race this past weekend !! i was so excited :) and i went to celebrate with Froyo with a lot of toppings :)
Next race is an Olympic triathlon in April.. Quick question.. i could not open your link for your shirts, i would love to get a couple because they look extremely comfortable… do you mind letting me know where you get them from?
Thanks :)

Reply

Well it use to be Mexican food until I found out I was lactose intolerant haha and it just isn’t the same without sour cream, or cheese. I don’t think I’ll be running any races for a while, trying to save for things I’ll need when I move out, which thank god is exciting to me so I don’t mind skipping the races for a while. HIIT run today!!!

Reply

yeah…I’m not giving up Mexican food. I can’t have the cheese (Migraine trigger) but I love salsa so I figure I’ll just balance it out with all the fun spicy stuff. So good.

Reply

WHAT DAY IS YOUR NEXT RACE?!
I was planning on running a half marathon March 1 too but decided to back out. I’m just too tired and just want to run for fun. It would’ve been my 2nd half.

Favorite salad dressing?
I love the Trader Joe’s Cilantro dressing you mentioned. Love it soooo much!

When going out to eat, what is your favorite cuisine to go for?
I really like Mexican food (after all, AZ has some awesome food)!

What type of run do you have on the schedule today?
No run today…rest day!

Glad you had a great day with your family!

Reply

Today’s run will be speedy! Yasso’s I think!!

I’m all about new workout clothes, I bought a new outfit for my marathon this Sunday!!!! Ahhhh!!!!! Can’t believe it’s here already!!!

I never go out for the same exact thing, I feel like at any given moment I crave 17 different foods!:)

Reply

I think Italian is my favorite food to go out for. My hubby and sons like Thai, but I can’t even stand the smell, so they get it if I have something else planned!

Brooke is my little twin! I have an Ann Taylor cream colored sweater very similar to Brooke’s top that I wear with jeans and boots! Please tell her that she pulls the look off much better than I do! :-)

Reply

Day off for visiting teaching. Mopping is my workout of the day.

You have some great friends and a great family it appears. What a blessing!

Reply

Now I want new workout clothes.

also…Brooke’s pictures always make me want cute headbands. Probably not as cute in grown up.

Reply

i had my mid-week longer run today – 10.5 miles done before 8 am! Felt great. I adore Thai food and try to eat as much rice/naan/noodles as possible before a race.

Reply

My next race is the Gasparilla half this Sunday. It’s pirate themed and it should be a blast!
I don’t really like salad dressing, I mix oil and vinegar instead.
I love French food, it’s so decadent.
I ran 7.2 easy miles this morning and it was one of those really nice runs where I didn’t want to stop.

Reply

That Lego Movie looks really cute. Cute enough for two grownups to see?

Phoenix?? My fiance is running the Phoenix Marathon, good luck!

My next race is the Shamrock 1/2 Marathon on March 16 in VA Beach :)

Favorite salad dressing is ranch & french mixed together!

My favorite cuisine….that’s a tough one! I like everything.

Today I just have a short & fast 3-4 miles on the schedule, but I might go play soccer with my son instead. He has Varsity tryouts next week, so we need to go over some drills! I am so nervous for him–I’m sure he’ll do fine and make the team, but it is still stressful because you never know what the coaches are thinking. Having one off day during tryouts can be disaster!

Reply

Just when I think I’ve seen the cutest picture of Brooke ever, you post an even cuter one.

I have a 10 miler this Saturday. Should be fun!

My favorite type of food to get when we eat out is Mexican…I could eat it everyday.

Reply

I have a 10K on March 22 that has a killer hill I’m preparing for. Not much of a hill runner over here! I prefer it flat :)

My favorites are southwestern cuisine, Mexican and that thai food looks and sounds amazing right now! This morning I crosstrained at the gym with the bike and weight-lifting/squats/lunges routine.

Reply

I’ve got my first half marathon in 2 weeks! I’m incredibly nervous.

Reply

I love Brooke’s hairbands! I need them for myself…I mean, my daughters. Of course.

I like Thai, but my absolute favorite is Greek. I love everything about it.

Reply

I love goddess salad dressing! I could eat it on anything. I swear it makes the world a better place.

I just ran the Miami Half Marathon and it was AWESOME! I am running the Cherry Blossom run in DC in April and I am pumped about it!

Reply

I did somewhat of a speed workout yesterday, so I think today I’m going to go for a longer-ish run, probably about 9 or 10 miles.

My next race is an 8k at the end of March! (and I already have my outfit picked out too ;)

Reply

Ahh thai food is my favorite!! I swear Brooke is more stylish than I am ;)

Reply

While in Thailand, I definitely recommend hitting up a cooking class! I cook maybe once a month (if that), but somehow in 3 hours I managed to make a papaya salad, tom yum, pad thai, green curry with chicken and sticky rice with mango. Then I proceeded to eat all of it, lol. One of the best experiences I had there! I just came back on Thursday and already craving some green curry (my boyfriend is a huge fan of Massaman like you though!).

No next races planned but should look into that after 3 weeks of eating Thai food and being a beach bum ;).

Reply

Thank you!!! I really want to do that! You are awesome!

Reply

Cute new running clothes. I love the yellow! That’s going to be my new color this year. My next race is supposed to be in Phoenix as well, but I’m still on the mends from my plantar fasciatis. I am supposed to begin therapy this week. Wish me luck!

Reply

Looooove new running outfits. I’m in a predicament for my marathon this Sunday, I kept thinking it would be a cold February, but it’s supposed to be 65 DEGREES! So now I’m having to totally rethink all my potential race outfits. That’s my current crisis, lol.

My FAVORITE dressing is either a classic honey m ustard or Ken’s raspberry walnut vinaigrette. TOO yummy.

And because I’m a Texas girl I usually end up going for Mexican 9/10 times. Just can’t help it, my heart needs chips/salsa/guac combo.

Reply

I love going out go sushi or any food served outside in a great atmosphere :) can you style me like you style Brooke? She’s seriously the cutest little fashionista ever!

Reply

I just went to Gap on Saturday and bought a t-shirt and sports bra from their GapFit Motion apparel. I love them; sooo comfortable! This is not going to help with that whole shower and wear real clothes thing.

Reply

I swear Brooke is a million times more stylish than me. Too cute!
Getting some stuff sorted out on my blog, but I might be able to fit in a quick run before I head to work. Maybe I’ll do some speed work too! I really need to make my running more structured again.

Reply

My next race is LA marathon on 3/9!! I’m so excited and nervous (my first full).

I also do speedwork on Tuesdays! Ha, I love getting it done, but hate knowing that I have to do it. Lol.

Favorite salad dressing is a balsamic vinaigrette. And favorite cuisine is probably Mexican…..yum.

That pic of Brooke is priceless.

Reply

My next race is the NYC Half Marathon on March 16th!
I like lite ranch dressing or mustard vinaigrette
I love going to diners that have just about anything on the menu. Or italian restaurants.

Was supposed do a 5 mile interval run but i opted to skip running today beccause i did a 10k trail run through snow on Saturday and 14 miles on Sunday and tons of shoveling and my entire body is sore and tight. I need an extra rest day =)

Reply

tonight I have a friend taking me to my first ballet class in about a decade and I’m really really excited!

Nordstrom rack sells my favorite kind of tank top expecially for summer, it’s so light it’s like wearing nothing! Except it’s about as flattering as a potato sack but I take comfort over style all the time.

Reply

If you’re trying to drink more water, I recommend getting a camelbak water bottle (it’s my favorite, so easy to drink and doesn’t spill) and just keeping it with you. I always have mine in my purse and I drink a TON of water

Reply

Have fun with speed work Tuesday!!

Gotta love selflies in the cold! haha.

I love THai food so much!! And pizza. I think that is a cuisine :)

Reply

My next race is on Sunday!! Im so excited/ nervous.
My favorite food to go out for with friends are thai food and mexican food. They are both delicious and there are so many options for both in southern california.

Reply

My next race is a Half on March 16!

Salad dressing – I get cravings – either blue cheese or thousand island or miso. They are all so different so it depends on the mood.

Today was a hard crosstraining day of elliptical and stairmaster (at that speed where people start staring at you funny).

I like going out for sushi.

I like loose fitting, thin tank tops. Lucy makes a good one.

Hope the speed session was great!

Reply

Yay for new race clothes! And I love Thai food too, every once in a while I’ll get intense cravings for Thai or Indian food mmm.

Reply

Looks like some great soul food there. I love that you have such a big group of running friends. I need to find some in my area. Now soliciting: any runners near Pittsburgh looking for an occasional running buddy?

I’m not sure when my next race is. I’ve been back on the 5K scene, so it may be as early as Saturday, depending on how I feel. I’m also eyeing the Pittsburgh marathon in May.

Today’s run will be an easy six-miler in the snow, much needed after yesterday’s six miles of speed intervals on the treadmill. :-O

I love Olive Garden dressing, and keep it stocked at all times. Not the healthiest, but it gets me enthusiastic about my veggies, so it’s a win. Victoria’s filet and lobster tail at Outback is my current favorite.

Happy speeding!

Reply

My next race is the Hot Chocolate Race on March 2 and my sister will be here to run it with me.
I will be running 4 miles tonight with the running group at the Balanced Athlete.

Reply

My next race is this Saturday! It’s a 5-miler that I ran last year too. I don’t know if I’ll beat my time because I haven’t been doing a lot of quality running but we’ll see! Gotta push it.

My brothers are so into ethnic food, so they’re definitely breaking me out of my shell. I usually go for sushi or American food, but they love Vietnamese, Korean, Moroccan, Indian, etc. etc. There are so many places I want to try with them!

I have a speed workout on the treadmill planned for this afternoon…not looking forward to it so much. I’M SICK OF THE ‘MILL!

Reply

ugh, today i am not looking forward to my speedwork. all this bad weather is making me a very grumpy runner.

Reply

I hope I see you in Phx. You’re truly an inspiration. I’m already trying to stalk, I mean seek out RER, lol…

Reply

Are you doing a get-together in Phx? I’m running the Phx Marathon too and hope I get to me you!! :)

My mom LOVES those tanks and wears them both to the gym and as an undershirt in the cold winters (of California :P ). I have the long sleeve for running and it’s SO incredibly soft and warm without making you overheat! These are fantastic!

Brooke is a great example of why I NEED a daughter! She is beautiful! Love the new race outfit, I totally think I need one for my next race (a halfy) on the 16th March… All the best for your halfy :)

My next race is March 22nd – Sleepy Hollow half marathon!

I really like vinaigrettes on my salads.

Chinese and Thai food are always my first pick. Or pizza!

I have an easy run on the schedule today. Thank goodness because work felt extra long!

I’m so jealous that you are going to Phoenix! I was thinking about it for March Break, but I’ve decided to stay and clean up the house instead. I really should go to get out of the snow, but oh well. That running outfit is cute!

Trader Joe’s makes a spicy peanut salad dressing that I dream about sometimes…

Thanks for the running clothes recommendation! I never thought to check out Gap for workout gear before :)

Just wanted to say that your blog is very inspirational to me! I’m currently sidelined due to amenorrhea and the females athlete triad, and hope to get back to running as soon as possible. I have not run since December (holy crap only 3 months??? Not possible, it feels like its been an eternity) and I am trying to gain back some weight. I am 17 and my period was gone for 2 years straight. I really appreciate you writing about the emotional side of the issue because the struggle to give up control over my food and my workouts is real.
I am now about 15 pounds heavier and my period has shown some promising signs of coming back, and although I am dying to start training again, I am so scared that I will fall back in the same cycle of no period and weight loss. I am curious how you manage to train so hard yet your cycle is pretty normal (I assume), and you are still running so fast so you couldn’t have gained that much weight?

Again, thank you for blogging! I am living my runs through you!! xD

This was the best night :) I always say that after. Way too much fun. I couldn’t stop laughing after in the parking lot! Best food and company as always! And best selfies :) Brooke’s outfit is killing me! Way too cute! Glad you took a picture of her. Go frame that! Next race on Saturday!! Ahhhh!!! Love you!

I LOVE going out for huge salads, since the prep work on those tends to keep me from making my own at home (or at least… making delicious ones). There’s one at this pizza place in Bellingham (La Fiamma) that is freaking amazing. Tuna nicoise. Je t’aime.

Reply

Good food choice! I usually go for sushi or mexican.
Water- yes drink water! You feel amazing on so many levels~
