I opened my Christmas present early.

I opened my Christmas present early on accident (actually, I couldn’t wait and made the conscious decision to open up my present from Brooks early, it wasn’t even close to an accident).

The beautiful new PureFlow 3s.  Those are going to look real good on my feet.

Today I was just hanging out with mis madre and she said out of nowhere… Brooke is now a toddler.  The below two examples prove her point to be true even though I refuse to believe it.

1.  She can now open doors.

IMG 5782

2.  She wants the whole banana and doesn’t need me to cut it into little pieces for her anymore.  Next thing you know it and she’ll be in Kindergarten.

My quinoa creation is going to be around for the next 10 meals because I made way too much and I refuse to waste food.

Dinner was put together in 10 seconds.

My sister and her family came over for brownies and ice cream after dinner.  We showed that brownie pan who is boss.

Yesterday’s tradition has kind of been an all month tradition but we will count it as yesterday’s…  Brooke and I have been reading from A Christ Centered Christmas every night and I am really enjoying it.

A reader sent this picture of her amazing find.  I will hunt these down and fill my own stocking with them.

And then I started something very therapeutic last night.  Lots of deleting old posts:)  It felt real good.

While going through old posts I found this picture of me and Brooke and it made me really happy.  I miss San Francisco and in January my sis and I are going to be there for a mini girls weekend together.  I can’t wait to show her my favorite spots.

Brooke was so tiny! Crazy how fast they grow. Keep up the therapeutic deleting!!! My favorite Christmas candy is by far the cadbury mini eggs. They only make them at Easter and Christmas so I make sure to stock up!

SWEDISH FISH CANDY CANES?! I don’t like regular candy canes but now I think I’m going to make sure those are the ones my mom buys for the tree. I actually have nothing on my Christmas list. It makes it difficult when people ask what I want, but I usually just buy something if I want it. Next year when I’m not a college student anymore I’ll probably have a list a mile long since i”ll have to pay for everything myself ;)

Reply

I found the candy canes at Target and they are yummy! I knew Janae would appreciate them!

Reply

Deleting old posts must feel great. I am reading The Wolf of Wall Street right now. It’s a crazy book but I’m really enjoying it, and ultimately there is a good message to be read: excess of anything is never beneficial. I think they are making a movie out of it too.

Reply

Brooke is a toddler now! Probably scary how quickly she’s growing up!
I have a bosu ball and new base layers on my wish list!

Reply

I think it’s good to delete posts that are no longer relevant or appropriate to your blog. There are some posts from college that I don’t feel necessary to be there anymore. I’ve been reflecting on college the last few days though randomly. It’s funny because I remember following your blog way back in 2011, random but hasn’t blogging changed so much since then?

Also random but have you seen/heard about the bacon candy canes?

Reply

Bacon candy canes?!?! That sounds amazing. Where did you find them?

Reply

I’ve been reading Donna Tartt’s The Goldfinch- I am loving it so far. I haven’t had a ton of time to read- but man, she’s got me hooked. I’m glad I have it on my kindle- I seriously have only had .2 secs to read in the last few days!

Gift I really really really hope I get- a new zip-up running jacket! I’ve trashed my old ones and it is tiiiime.

As a newer follower- I just love love love the pics of Brooke! She is such a peach!

Christmas list….mmm…I always have a hard time asking for things. I’m better at taking care of everyone else. Mom syndrome. I would say since I’m a newbie runner (started in July), I would love any running attire. So I don’t have to always wear the same things over and over. :)

Haven’t read a book book in a while. My mom did just give me “Silent Night” and I started it.

Christmas Candy? Anything chocolate/caramel or peanut butter. Yummm

I love the San Fran pic!! What a view and it looks like where you at is a great place to hang out, relax, read, run, etc…

I don’t have much on my Christmas list, but one small take-care-of-my-skin item. It almost seems silly to share, but a loofah.

I don’t need much. We have a beautiful home on a gorgeous piece of land less than a mile from the beach. My hub and I work from home, so our daughter is our focus. We live in a town where she makes friends with everyone and chases deer, gulls, raccoons, etc.

The only other thing on my list might be time… Time for just me, as I’m a fiercely independent person and being around my family all day means I’m focusing on them in every moment.

Time to just drive to the beach and sit for 20 minutes or 30 even. Time to explore a new trail solo and to photograph it. Time to have pure stillness. or maybe.. Time to paint the living room without busy fingers exploring the paint. :-)

PS Christmas came early today!

I went into the kitchen to grab some breakfast this morning and saw that the pile of three-days-old dishes were done and put away by my husband last night!

Back story- We’ve been working on the yard for about 3 months, but this past Saturday-Tuesday we put some final touches of 5-10 hour days on some parts of it. I’d let the dishes go purposefully and told my hub I’d do them today.

When I saw those dishes done and realized that I didn’t have to do them, that he did them when I was sleeping blew me away and I nearly cried tears of joy and gratitude. Merry Christmas in a moment!

Favorite Christmas candy would be Reese’s Trees…obviously. ;)

Deleting things can be so… Cathartic. I spent a day a few years ago after a traumatic trust breaking incident, just me, iPhoto, and the delete key. The relief was almost immediate and I have no regrets.

You guys are always in my thoughts.:)

I’m not a poster, but I read daily. I just had to comment on the deleting old posts. When my ex and I broke up after 12 years, I went through old pictures on my computer (had copies on a backup hard drive, so they actually still exist) and cropped him out of every one. It felt fantastic and I felt so free. It was a great turning point in my healing process. I hope you felt the same way.

Favorite Christmas Candy: old fashioned vanilla creme drops. My Grandad always had them for us and they remind me of him.

I would love to say they grow up so fast…but MAN sometimes it feels like they are around forever. ;) My teenage son talked for 4 hours last night. I am not kidding. It’s not as cute at sixteen. LOL Although he is pretty freakin’ adorable so I guess I can’t complain.

Enjoy the cathartic experience of deleting blog posts. I encourage you…
And thanks again for the Brookeness.

I had a Ghirardelli peppermint bark chocolate bar last night and it was just amazing. I just finished The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult, and it was so good, I couldn’t put it down! Awesome! Glad you’re coming out to SF in January :)
I currently live in SF (for school) and enjoy every moment of it. I’m sure you’ll have a whole lot of fun (and if it’s not too windy or cloudy, you girls should totally run around from Crissy Field and over the Goldgen Gate Bridge! Such a nice view from the other side c:)

When babies start crawling or walking everyone always says to watch out! Nope. That stuff wasn’t too bad. Opening doors, now that’s when trouble happens! (At least for me).

Love your daily traditions. You are such a fun and thoughtful mom! Your trip with your sister will be so much fun. I am excited for you!!

I have nothing on my list this year which is VERY unusual for me. Favorite Christmas candy is anything with dark chocolate and peppermint. ..which is a lot this time of year…and I love it :)

Love that SF pic, I remember when you first posted it. And can I just say how adorable is Brooke in those headbands!!

Favorite Xmas candy….anything with peppermint and chocolate or those ghirardelli pumpkin spiced caramel chocolates….mmmm.

My Xmas wish list is pretty much all running related: garmin 220, new shoes, road id bracelet. Lol

Oh my gosh, I cannot believe you didn’t mention how cute Brook is in that headband. Further proof she is getting farther away from being a baby. I read “A Christ Centered Christmas” last year and we are doing it this year. Love it! Last–I’m a frequent reader but never a commenter. I work with Amy and Amy on the She Runs races and met you last feb. in St George. Just thought I would say hello. Hello!

Reply

You can get those Swedish Fish Candy Canes at Target. I know because I may or may not have purchased 10 boxes. ;)

Those Pure Flow 3’s are SWEEEEEEEEEEEET! I must have them.

Reply

Brooke was such a teeny baby! So I’m not sure what’s on my Christmas list this year – I got engaged this year and I”m still living in the clouds. I feel like nothing I get can truly top the gift of getting to marry my honey. Lately I’ve been reading Dean Karnazes’ book, Run, and I’m really enjoying it. My favorite Christmas candy would probably have to be a York Peppermint Patty, which I know isn’t technically Christmas, but it’s minty so it kinda counts, right?

Reply

Favorite Christmas candy- those peppermint hershey kisses. Im not w huge fan of candy canes but if they are added to something else I dont mind them.
I’m reading A Little Princess right now. I read alot of “kids” books because I homeschool and I’m always previewing books for my curriculum and also kids books are pretty safe when it comes to some of the garbage out there.
I have that same Christ centered Christmas book too. :)

When I look at Brooke and all the things she already does at just her age I sometimes thinks she’s 2, almost 3 but then I remember that she is just 16 months old! She is a toddler and a mature little lady already. Just think of all the running you guys can do in a few years ;) lets hope she loves running too.

Deleting old posts..Will you be deleting all of the old ones or just a few?
Sometimes I want to delete my old neglected blog but then there are a few gems on there that I dont want to forget.

I hope you have a great day today.

Reply

Brooke is definitely a toddler. She looks so grown up in that headband. It’s adorable!! Also, Swedish Fish candy canes seem like a brilliant idea. All candy should come in candy cane form! I don’t really have a favorite Christmas candy. I prefer the cookies and other baked goods. I just really like that Christmas is a great time to enjoy all of it with friends and family.

My Christmas List is pretty simple this year. I don’t need or particularly want anything this year. I just want to spend time with my family.

I’m between books right now. I just finished up Gone Girl. Interesting read. Not my favorite, but well written.

About the post-deleting… maybe hide instead of delete altogether? From first-hand experience, I suspect that down the road once you’ve totally recovered, you’ll wish you still had some of that evidence/history available for yourself and for Brooke. Even the most miserable things that happen are part of your history, and make you who you are now. Without knowing exactly what happened, that history gave you Brooke and made you happy for a long time. It seems like a shame to just erase it, even if it was followed by a really painful chapter. Just my 2 cents. I know the deleting probably feels fantastic.

Reply

Whaaat… those candy canes look amazing!! I am going to have to check today to see if Target has them!

Oooh ooh, Brooke can come be in my kindergarten class! Lol!

Christmas list – some new Lululemon clothes (or at least a gift card), and some little things like pjs, a popcorn popper, etc. Book: reading the Legend series. It’s kinda fun but I had to put it down during the week or I won’t go to sleep, it’s a real pageturner!

I can’t believe how tiny brooke is in that pic! You are both gorgeous!

Toddlers are so much fun! Tanner and Baylee were into EVERYTHING at that stage.. I seriously felt like I ran a marathon everyday!

Everything on my list is actually to expensive for me to even get. .haha! But victoria secret lipgloss is always a christmas stocking must!

Reply

Props to you for taking the step of deleting :) A few years ago, I had the rug completely pulled out from under me after finding out some horrible things that had been happening behind my back with my boyfriend of 5 years. I was embarrassed, heartbroken, frustrated, sad, angry – the list goes on. Eventually – I went on a cleanse – pictures were deleted, emails gone – clothing that he gave me or reminded me of him was given away – along with whatever else didn’t feel “right” to have anymore. It was the BEST thing I could have done. And while my closet is still kind of bare after my rampage of giving most of my things away, I wouldn’t change what I did. It was a key part to my recovery process!
Have an awesome Christmas with your family. You sure deserve it :)
