Today was a different story.

I think my pump teacher’s philosophy this morning was:

‘Do something really hard the entire 60 minutes with very few and VERY short breaks… go back and forth from a hard lift to some crazy cardio move that makes my class completely exhausted’

I loved this plank move (I am really bored with planks lately so adding in little variations helps a lot).  We held plank position with our feet on our step and then tapped our right foot to the side of us while staying in plank position and then brought it back to the step and then we did the left foot and repeated that for a while.  My shoulders and abs started burning 3 seconds after starting this move.

I ran a few miles on the treadmill until the Brookers woke up and was ready for us to have our morning reading time.

Remember how I was bragging to you the other day about how easy it is for me to do Brooke’s hair when she sits in the sink?

Today was a different story.  Sadly she threw my entire makeup bag across the bathroom and there were a few casualties.

At least it all ended in smiles.  (instagram: hungryrunnergirl)

I don’t know if you have caught on to this yet but I am quite obsessed with this little girl.  Trying to squeeze in as many park days in as possible before winter hits us head on.

I think you are probably really sick of seeing my salad mountains from the Pizza Factory so instead I will just show you a picture of the four of us (my cookie included) at Pizza Factory.  Sarah had the most amazing looking dish…  It was zucchini noodles topped with marinara and chicken… she is gluten free so it is the perfect meal for her.  I might have to branch out and try it next time.

This is known as my ‘put Brooke down for a nap, grab a glass a milk and watch an episode of Revenge’ cookie.

Brooke’s sweater is adorable!!!!

I’m doing a turkey trot for the first time this year. So excited to run and then have Christmas coffee with my girlfriends.

I have been planking more recently. I did 2:30 minutes the other day.

Reply

I’m doing a local Turkey Trot for Thanksgiving. It’s an awesome race because it’s the easiest to convince family members to run with me!

I do core work 4 times a week (ideally). I have no favorite moves, they’re all hard and I still don’t have a six pack. Someday (when I change my diet which I’m not willing to do).

I can’t remember the last cookie I had, which means it’s way past time to eat one!

Reply

I never get sick of seeing those salads. But I NEED that cookie!

Reply

Yes! I am doing a Turkey Trot! I even got my first ever seeded bib which why despite some tendonitis (okay it’s in two places) I’m knocking it out for 3.1! Seeded bib, I never thought I’d ever get one!!!

Last cookie: Everything but the kitchen sink at the Whole Foods by me.

I love core work!! Plan is for everyday core work in dec as I take a break from training

Reply

Target sells these cookies called Grasshoppers. They are like Girl Scout thin mints. We put them in the freezer. They are amazing.

Reply

I’m signed up for my turkey trot!
My last cookie.. Birthday cake Oreos which aren’t as good as homemade ones so I’ll need to fix that ASAP.
I’m doing a plank challenge so planks everyday.

Reply

I’m doing my first turkey trot this year! It’s a 5 miler – can’t wait!

Reply

my last cookie was your s’mores bar recipe! obsessed!! so delicious. my whole family is addicted.

not gluten free and no turkey trot.

it’s so funny how kids can quickly prove us wrong on things like when we say “my kid would not throw a tantrum in a store.” and then bam! the next day they do!
sorry about your makeup. casualties of motherhood! :)

Reply

My kids sit on my bathroom counter to do hair and yes, casualties have happened! I have little fingernail marks in a lot of makeup, toothpaste has been squeezed to oblivion and lotion EVERYWHERE. and this is with me within 1 foot!
I’m still dying for Pizza Factory from the last time you went!!

Reply

I’m gluten and dairy free…I really miss Pillsbury crescent rolls – classy, I know.

No turkey trot this year…over the weekend I did a Pumpkin Pie 10K though!

I do core via Pilates moves(my mom is an instructor and taught me all the good, hard ones) about 3 times a week.

Reply

oh and I love pics of your salad mountain. it always makes me hungry. (and I don’t have skills like that!)

Reply

I try to do core work 3x a week!

Reply

I so need to try that plank move. I get complacent with planks, but I have a feeling that will be hard to do with this mix up.

Reply

I’m doing a turkey trot this year- 8k so I think 5 miles? Also, I have celiac’s so I’ve been gluten free for two years…the foods I miss most vary daily. Right now I think it’s bagels.

Reply

Janae! I wanted to let you know that your mantra “I can do hard things” really came in handy for me today! It’s so true! And this has been such a hard week but I know that I’m going to get through it! Thanks as always for being so positive and inspiring.

Reply

I’m running a 10k turkey trot this year with Christian! At least that’s the plan… if it’s a typical Montana morning with sun, we’re fine but if it’s snowing and under 15 degrees it may not happen ;) ha!

Reply

I’ve just started going to yoga (1xweekly) and there is lots of planking involved there!! It’s murderous!

Reply

No Turkey Trots but I have my first 5k coming up in Dec in Phoenix…Hot Chocolate 5k. Run for Chocolate? Yes I will.

Last cookies were chocolate chip…made with the help of my 2 year old. :)

Reply

We do a Turkey Trek every year and this will be the first year my daughter is old enough to run with us! This will be her fourth 5k in the last four months. I bet Brooke will be a runner just like you!

Reply

I’m doing a Thanksgiving morning 5K with my best friend! We’ve done it every year together for at least 6 years I think. Then I’m going to do a half marathon the Saturday after Thanksgiving too!

The fact that I can’t even remember my last cookie is a problem… I’ll change that tonight when I go home to my parents’ house – they always have cookies and M&M’s on hand.

Reply

I kind of love how obsessed you are with your little girl because it means I get to see more of her too :) And ugh… makeup casualties are the worst. I know there are some tutorials out there on the internet on how you can press the back together again, but I’ve never given them a shot. As for my last cookie, I believe it was oatmeal and chocolate chip — my absolute favourite :D

Reply

We usually do a 5K turkey trot with the fam, but this year no one’s going to be around for Thanksgiving. We’re kind of spread all over the U.S. now, so we aren’t able to get together for every holiday. :( We will all be together for Christmas though, so we’ll definitely do some running together then!

Reply

I’m a gluten-free gal. I really miss REAL pizza. I’m also dairy-free so I extra miss it. I also miss sandwiches and buttery toast. So bummed to not be defending my title at the local turkey trot. I was hoping to run it even faster this year. Maybe they’ll make a cane division? The last cookie I had was an amazing chocolate chipper that I made myself. Love the swing pics of Brooke…and the reading time :)

Reply

Its always devastating when makeup falls on the floor and you have a casualty. That happens to me all the time with pressed powder and bronzer. I just had a hair product casualty at the airport when it was slightly over the 100mL limit and they confiscated it. Devastating!

Brooke is just getting cuter and cuter, I love her pig tails and adorable sweater. :)

Reply

I want to do a turkey trot, but there are none in my area. I thought everywhere did a turkey trot.

Last cookie was a delicious snickerdoodle.

I have been focusing more on core lately since my half marathon. The last 3 or 4 miles I felt like my uterus was going to fall out. I guess I hadn’t strengthened my core enough after having baby. So now I do a few planks every day and other moves 4 times a week.

Reply

The last cookies I had were oreos with a side of a jar of pb! So good! I’ve been branching out from the jar of frosting I usually dip them in. I would say core work and pregnancy don’t mix… but let’s be honest I never did it in the first place. Unless carrying a toddler counts?

Reply

Thinking about signing up for the 10k turkey trot near me! Just bought Brooks Adrenaline and need to break them in!

I can’t think of the last cookie I had, how sad!?!

I need more core work in my life! Sore abs is the bomb.com :)

Reply

No Turkey Trot for me this year, I’m skipping it since I’m running the Womens Half the Sunday before.
My last cookie was…..Another Cannoli!
And core work, uh, I better get started on that if I’m going to keep eating Cannoli’s but right now I’m just bored to death of planks so really no core work, oops.

Reply

My favoriete core move is the plank. But I don’t do as much core excercises as I should of would like!

Reply

Last cookie was a peanut butter cookie – can’t go wrong with that! I don’t do a lot of core work on my own, so it’s a good thing that a lot of the classses I take finish with a few minutes of abs ;-)

Here’s another option for a Turkey Trot in Utah: https://www.utahfoodbank.org/utah-human-race-info

Reply

I’m doing the Turkey Trot in Overland Park, KS with my dad on Thanksgiving! It will be the third year in a row that we do it together – every year he gets a PR!

Reply

I’m doing the Ward Parkway one with my dad, but we almost did the Sprint one!! Good luck!

Reply

When I’m really good, I’m gluten free. Unfortunately my hub struggles with it, and I chose to cave to his gluten-ness life.

With that said, I did introduce him to Liz Lovely cookies, and he was in gluten-free love. Mmmm…

For a plank variation consider down dog- up dog repeats. When you transition through plank, hold it for a few more seconds. I often do these while breaking up a lifting session. It’s fun. It’s even better when my little girl holds onto my shoulders and goes for a ride during them!

Reply

Wow! Brooke has gotten so big, so fast! :) My nephew is like just that size, and it’s so awesome to have someone to relate to! :)

Reply

Brooke’s sweater is adorable. You girls both look beautiful as usual :)

Reply

I love Brooke’s pigtails — and also how in the cookie photo she is clearly only concerned with getting said cookie in her mouth :)

My last cookie was a Ginger Snap — yum!

Reply

Hmm… favorite core work would have to be the old standard- bicycles. And also stability ball pass and planks. The last cookie I had was pumpkin!! Mmm… need to make more of those soon!

Reply

I can’t remember the last cookie I had which obvi means its been to long. We will be traveling thanksgiving morning so sadly no trotting for me :(

Reply

You and your daughter are so cute! I love to go to pilates for core work.

Reply

We have the Run to Feed the Hungry here, an annual HUGE run that my in laws do every year! :) We won’t be doing it this year, but it’s super awesome! I love new plank moves, and that one is KILLER!

xo

Reply

I wish I was back from injury enough to do a turkey trot but unfortunately I won’t be there :( I probably will be cheering on my husband though! Which is sometimes just as fun :)

Reply

A turkey trot is such a fun way to incorporate something fun and healthy in day that’s filled with delicious foods! I am running a 5K with my best friend on earth and I hope it starts a tradition. My absolute favorite cookies are a basic oatmeal raisin cookie but with walnuts and craisins instead of raisins. Couple that cookie with Revenge and that’s what I call heaven!

Reply

I’ve been using the McMillan’s running core DVDs! (after reading about them on your blog) Core work is so important but planks can definitely get boring!

Reply

Her little sweater is soo cute I can’t even handle it!

Reply

I think I would die if I was gluten free :)…slight exaggeration but it I love carbs!!!!
I do not do core work nearly enough!

Reply

I’m doing a turkey trot! Defending champ! Brooke’s pigtails are ADORABLE!! And your friend’s meal sounds perfect. Yum! I tried gluten free once – it was said to help with autism. I made it a day. I just gotta have it!

Reply

Yes! I’m doing a turkey trot – the “I Like Pie” run in Bend, OR. And I’m with you on the plank moves. I’m trying to do core work every day but end up doing it about 5x a week. The variations you’ve posted lately are going to help a lot. Woot! As far as GF issues, I like to say that I’m gluten-full. Mmmm sourdough.

Reply

I’m doing the 8 mile Dallas turkey trot!

Reply

I love seeing pics of your salad mounds, it always looks so yummy! I wish we had a pizza factory in NC.

Reply

That cookie looks amazing! The last type of cookie I had was a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie. So good…

Reply

Mmmm that cookie looks fab!

I might go on a run on thanksgiving–but no turkey trot.

So sad about your makeup! guess you need to go buy some new ones :)

Reply

I am doing a 5 mile turkey trot on Thanksgiving. and I haven’t done core work in forever

Reply

Isn’t anyone interested in where her friend bought her outfit? Details please!

Reply

I am thinking about registering my girls and I for a Turkey Trot. I’m kind of waiting to find out what the rest of our plans for the day are first.

The last cookie I had was a chocolate chip cookie from McDonald’s. They are surprisingly good!

I do core work maybe once a week. I need to do more of it!

Reply

Important things first: pics of Brooke in swing? Adorable! Giant cookie. Yum. I wajtvone! My lil sis is getting into running, so I’m going to do a Turkey Trot with her. Yay!

Reply

Love that she’s so intently reading her book upside down :)

Reply

Gluten is my love. Dairy…not so much.

Our city is doing a Double Gobble this year. We are running a 2 mile race (there’s a 10 miler too) the Sunday before Thanksgiving and then a 5K Thanksgiving morning. So fun!

My grandma’s vanishing oatmeal raisin cookies. I only ate two!

I did a month long plank challenge two months ago, but I’ve since gotten out of the habit. I’m a big plank fan.

Your daughter is a doll! Love her pigtails!

Reply

I’m doing a turkey trot with my friends this thanksgiving. It’s such a great way to start the holiday off!

Reply

I never seem to get better at planks!

I cut back on gluten about a year ago- basically I eat gluten free at home and then when I go out to eat allow myself to enjoy whatever I want. Since I don’t have an allergy, I’m able to treat myself without bad side effects, but the overall reduction has helped me feel much better!!

I think I am going to do a turkey trot on t-day morning. I haven’t signed up yet because I am waiting to see the weather forecast, but I’m about 90% sure I’ll be doing on.

I am eating a homemade chocolate chip cookie right now…warm from the over…yummy goodness!

I’ve been doing core work 4 times a week, my favorite move is anything that uses weights.

Reply

I cannot stick with a core routine. I started the plank-a-day challenge and planned to go for 30 days and I think I made it 8 days? I was up to a whole minute which felt *really* hard! I am in awe of the people who can hold for 2 and 3 minutes+!

I like to do zercher squats (front squats) to help with my core. I can really feel my insides getting a good workout when I do them! :)

Reply

I’m gluten free and have been for almost a year! I’m used to it, but really do miss cupcakes, pita bread, and Fazoli’s breadsticks. Also, pb&js and soy sauce.

I’m so excited to be doing two semi-turkey trot races, one the Sunday before thanksgiving and one the sunday after! Hopefully I’ll PR in one!

Reply

Planned on our Gobble Gallop, but decided to work as a volunteer for the race! I’m still REALLY excited for it. Plus, I still get a shirt!

Reply

My husband discovered the show Revenge and we are both obsessed! We’ve watched like 10 episodes in 4 days.

Reply

BodyPump is no joke! They definitely make the most out of all 60 minutes haha. I’m sooo jealous that you guys have a Pizza Factory. Also, Brooke is just the cutest! I’m not gluten free, but my boyfriend was for awhile and it was really tough. I’m doing my first Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving, and I’m stoked for it :) The last cookie I had was a Starbucks snowman cookie…this is my first holiday season working there, and I have one pretty much every shift. Walking planks are so much fun, they’re definitely my favorite core work. :)

Reply

I am running a Turkey Trot with my family. I plan to dress as a pilgrim and my tween son is mortified. He swears he won’t run next to me. We’ll see :)

Reply

Poor make up! I love Revenge!!!

I eat pretty paleo so gluten is out most of the time and my belly likes it quite a bit. I do love cookies though and my mom’s homemade are the best!

No racing on turkey day for me! I have a 6 mile tempo run slated for Thanksgiving!

Core work I would say… 4x a week?

Reply

I did a Turkey Run last year and loved it! Unfortunately I will be working this year, and am pretty bummed about it.

Reply

I have been making a point to lift 2x a week. I am always so soar afterwards! I don’t love lifting, but I know it will make me a better runner, and keep me healthy!

Ugh, planks. Hate them, but I do them. :)

Reply

i’m so curious, what kind of bag is it that you use? i think it’s too cute! thx!

Reply

Since I won’t be home for Thanksgiving this year I’m trying a new Turkey Trot! I’m doing the 10K at 7:30 am and the 5k at 9:30 am. Its going to be interesting – but really fun!!

Reply

My favorite cookie hands down is a chocolate chip cookie fresh out of the oven. My son likes getting Brookies (brownie + cookie) from one of our favorite restaurants.

My work is having a fitness competition, and I have been doing Fitness Blender youtube workouts daily. I don’t think there’s been a day when my core hasn’t been worked!

Reply

we had sugar cookies in my house this weekend for my roommate’s birthday. heaven!!!
Also, I should sign up for a turkey trot. It’s been too long since I’ve done a good 5k.

Reply

No gluten free thank goodness. I’m weaning off dairy and have been a vegetarian for 3 yrs so that’s enough for me.

I do ab work 6 days a week. I get down on the floor before bed and pound out a few exercises.
I had my thanksgiving already (Canadian) but I am signed up for two santa runs next month!

Reply

I totally saw you this morning getting your run in as I was rowing my little heart out but didn’t want to yell at you from across the room. You left before I finished or I would have come over and said hello. So I’ll just say “Hello” now :)

Reply

I’m doing the Turkey Trot this year. Looking forward to it! I’m not gluten free but have been considering it. The last cookie I had was a sugar cookie. I baked them for my son’s class and had to sample one. Or 10.

Reply

There’s a place in NYC called Insomnia Cookies & they deliver warm cookies until 3am. We order them a few times a week. They have a S’mores cookie that is heavenly. We ended up having milkshakes delivered tonight & I sort of had buyer’s remorse because I missed my S’mores cookie. Haha

Reply

I was diagnosed with celiac last year. It’s actually been a pretty easy adjustment food wise. Energy wise, not so much. The long runs are really, really tough these days. What do I miss? Churros. The thought of never having a Disneyland Churro is a sad one.

Reply

I’m doing my first ever Turkey Trot this year. It’ll be the coldest 5k I’ve done…

Reply

We’re doing a family Turkey Trot 5K…3rd or 4th annual one! My SIL even makes medals for all of us :)

Last cookie was chocolate chip :)

Reply

Mike, Bungee, and I are running the turkey trot together this year. We’ll be taking it slow, but Bungee has never run a race before, so it’ll be fun.

I can’t remember the last cookie I had…that’s sad.

Reply

I force myself to do core work twice a week. I like it, but it can be tough to keep it up when I’m back in school. Right now I’m really slacking with my strength training because its not dark at 4:3o and that means at 4:30…i’m tired and practically ready for bed!
I’ve been to a body pump class maybe twice. I gave up my gym membership in March because I was consistently PAYING to go and NOT suing it…i have a treadmill at home and a ton of workout videos so that is mainly what I do to stay trim and slim! :)

ps- I also love Revenge…That Emily sure is crafty in her diabolical plans!!
pps-Brooke is th happiest baby on the PLANET, i swear!

Reply

I’m doing an 8k Turkey Trot. It’s one of my favorite races of the year!

Reply

I’m doing a 10 mile turkey trot! Which is great because I will be able to eat more than anyone this year after that distance!

Reply

Not gluten free, but I cook for friends who are. Sad.

I found a turkey trot that involves pie & coffee :0)

Last type of cookie: I’m honestly not sure, but I had some yummy cupcakes last weekend!

I try and do core stuff about 3-4 times per week. I do leg lifts, bicycle, and planks.

Reply

I was just diagnosed as having Celiac Disease on Friday and I am mourning the loss of pizza, pasta, cookies, brownies, beer, perogi, dumplings of any kind actually, cake, smores…..and on and on. I feel better already though so it will be worth it. I’m sure. It totally will. Eventually?

I am doing a Turkey Trot and it’s a half marathon.

Reply

I hate core work because I lack any kind of core strength. My general guiding principle is that if I like a move, that’s because it’s not doing anything so I try to avoid those.

Reply

I am GF, but was once called a “carbohydrate queen” so it is safe to say I miss my bread. But I have found that if I don’t eat gluten I don’t crave it, unfortunately it is for medical reasons but I am adjusting well to the new lifestyle and am enjoying other “bread replacements.”

Reply

I didn’t have a cookie in the last few days but I had a giant hunk of fudge cake last night for dessert which satisfied my sweet tooth just fine. I have been getting much better at the plank positive as of late and I am quite proud of myself!

Reply

Mmm, mmm, that cookie looks amazing!

Reply

I love hearing from Bangs!

I’ve been gluten-free about a month now since I found out I have a wheat allergy. It’s really tough sometimes jut because it limits what I can eat on campus at college.

I miss naan so much – the bf and I went out for Indian food and I had a yummy meal, but I missed it. Also, baguettes.

There are a lot of delish gf options for cookies and cakes – it’s the convenience of mealtimes that make me miss bread the most.

Reply

I’m gonna do my own free Turkey Trot! A 10K trail run in my hometown in the Bay Area.

Reply

I’ll be camping in Oregon with my family, so we’re going to do our own Turkey Trot in the dunes.

Reply

In Florence, I assume? Be careful, it’s really cold here now. It got down to 25* last night! Bundle up!!!

Reply

Thanks Rochelle! Yes, Florence. Luckily, we’re the fair weather type of campers and have a trailer — and will have electricity and more importantly, heat.

I saw your post below on the Turkey Trot. Is it in Florence? I’d love some details. I was looking for a local run to do that morning, but can’t find anything on line.

Reply

The Turkey Trot that I’m doing is in Eugene, which is about a 45 mile drive East of Florence. If you decide that you want to make the drive, there is a 4 mile run at 9am, or a 2 mile at 9:15. If you Google search “Turkey Trot Eugene”, the details will come up. It’s hosted by Eclectic Edge.

Reply

My 10 year old daughter and I are doing a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, before I take her over to her dad’s house!

Reply

No Turkey Trot planned. I have been lots of core work lately…planks, crunches, pretty much anything I can do!

We’ve been gluten free for about 6 months now. I miss bread the most. And normal pizza. But it gets better. The cravings come and go and I’ve found good ways to replace the bread. When I want a PB&J- I use rice cakes instead :)

Haven’t had cookies in awhile, but when we do they are Udi’s brand frozen Choc Chip (GF). Pretty good!

i ran a turkey trot 10k with my brother last year. we had a blast! definitely the best way to start thanksgiving! i’ll be out of the country for thanksgiving, so no turkey trot this year :(
