Never going to go there again…

I wonder how many pictures I have of us standing in front of the Yogurtland poster? Annette (38 weeks along!), Sharsti, Arrienne and Ash plus just a few babies.

DSC 6666

Ya know, just sampling all of the flavors together.

DSC 6662

While I was at yogurt my mom texted me to see if I wanted to join them for dinner. Um, yes.

Somehow I forgot to take the napkins off for the picture. I was hungry for real food.

I’ll be honest… I am doing A LOT better than I was two months ago BUT there are some places that have memories attached to them and I have a hard time being there. As I was driving to dinner I didn’t even think I was going to have a hard time because I feel strong and like I am in such a better place but then I got there and…

Just to let you know, I probably will never go to In-N-Out again;) It’s okay, Five Guys is actually better than this place.

DSC 6668

So Brooke and I did what we do best to put ourselves in a better mood. And it worked.

IMG 1950

And then I Snapchatted my friends to get their opinion on these boots for Brooke from Target. These boots are now in Brooke’s room waiting for winter.

IMG 1951

After Brooke went to bed I got to take out my girl for her birthday dessert.

DSC 6669

Cazookie definition from Webster’s Dictionary: The best dessert you will ever have. A two inch thick cookie fresh out of the oven. Crunchy on the outside and doughy on the inside. Topped with ice cream. A perfect combination.

We split the Cazookie and the Turtle Tart in the back.

DSC 6670

About to head out the door for a speed workout. Thursday and Friday will be easy days and then Saturday will be TWENTY miles. I haven’t done 20 miles in who knows how long. Who wants to come run with me on Saturday and keep me entertained? Anyone? Anyone?

are supposed to go to a grass fed burger place with adult shakes after my first marathon… Oct 27th! Right now I guess my favorite place is red robin.
I had a bad run yesterday. I usually have to give myself a ton of pep talks. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does. but I always try!

I have to add, I can completely relate to the memories of places. It’s been almost 2 years since my divorce and there are some places I still can’t go without crying. But remember, you’ll make some great NEW memories.

I took a quick look om your blog. Your blog loods really happy and fun!

Yes! I also LOVE your blog!

Favorite burger joint is here in Louisville called Holy Grail. Soooo dang good. Seriously.

And you gotta love those cazookies!!

yay great buy with the boots! those are adorable :) and ive never heard of a cazookie, but that needs to be a thing on all dessert menus as far as im concerned!!

Reply

Awe the blogger meetup looks so fun!
And I’m glad to hear you are doing a lot better now! I’m sure a lot of places will be hard to go to with the memories attached there, but it sounds like you’re making great steps and being positive about it all.
I have an October birthday! It was yesterday though.

Reply

Mine was too! Happy birthday!

Snapchat is my FAVORITE! And I would have given you a big thumbs up response on those boots! She looks like a little diva!

I’m a vegetarian, so burger places aren’t really my thing, but we do have a place here that has a ton of different burger varieties including a falafel burger and it is AMAZING.

I usually use Bungee as a reason to get me out the door to run. She actually NEEDS exercise, so I feel bad if I don’t get her out there for a run or a walk or something.

That cazookie looks AMAZING.

I’ve never been on the spousal side of a divorce, but I married a man (raised LDS) who was. With him came D, a teen.

Without getting into (allllll…) of the details, let’s just say that the divorce was the beyond-the-best decision for my hub and his then wife. Also for their son.

D. D is another story. Is it possible to fall in love with a teen in one moment in the completely-a-okay-kind-of way? I have the world’s best step-son and our relationship is tops!

He knows he can call me for anything (and he does- often to just “chit chat”). He is the best big brother to his little sister (my/our daughter).

I know what I don’t know- what is what you are going through. Yet, I know what I know, and that’s that as the result of a divorce, I have a phenomenal husband, the coolest teen step-son, and a very unique and wonderful family!

All the best!

You HAVE to get that sweet little girl a puppy dog!!
I would have said yes to the boots too-she looks so cool in them!
My all time favorite dessert-warm cookie (or brownie) with ice cream-yum!
I think Five Guys burgers are the best!
Sometimes to motivate myself I’ll say things like-“You can do anything for 10 mins”…then do that in increments.
Have a good day Janae!!

When I’m having a hard time getting myself to workout or run: I just tell myself “try it for five minutes and if you don’t like it, then stop.” Well, that doesn’t happen because the hardest part is the beginning. :)

Reply

I honestly haven’t been to a burger place in a long time but I would probably have to choose Five Guys. The last time I went there it was so amazing! Though there is this little hole in the wall in NC on the way to the beach that also has some pretty amazing burgers. Usually the little places do :)

I always tell myself to just get the run started, the first couple steps are always the hardest after you get into it most of the time it is so much easier!

Reply

When I have a hard time getting myself out the door for a run, I remind myself that I get to have coffee when I get back and it gets me out the door in no time!

My birthday is October 16th! I’m excited, my husband and I are going to take a mini vacation to celebrate.

I’m praying for you and Brooke, I hope you have a great day!

Reply

My favorite burger place is a local place called Vertigo. SO GOOD and they have every topping you can dream of. Last store I went to was a Dicks that just opened. I had to leave after 10 minute because I wanted to spend all of my money on running shorts.

Reply

I have to admit ever since the first time you posted about one of those cookie things I have researched restaurants on the east coast that have them. I’ve only come across a few. Memories are hard. I’ve definitely been through a few situations where I can’t listen to specific songs anymore or sit in certain places in the library. You continue to be an inspiration to so many people for staying so positive in this incredibly difficult time of your life and I am so happy you have Brooke and your family and friends to keep you grounded.

So I got divorced about five years ago. It was heartbreaking, I hit rock bottom, etc. etc. etc. It sucked. I refused to go near the area in which we lived, and you can only imagine my heartbreak when I saw him in the mall before our divorce was even finalized… with a woman who was about 8 months pregnant.

I’m just here to tell you this Janae: it WILL get better. I didn’t believe it at the time myself. I felt broken, stupid, pathetic, like a failure, and like everyone was judging me on the failure of my marriage, despite giving my everything to make it work. Failure is not being divorced; failure is staying in a craptastic marriage (and we didn’t even have kids).

So now it’s five years on. I am happier, healthier, closer with my family and friends, doing some great volunteer work with dogs, and standing on my own two feet. I depend on no one for anything, and I am the happiest I have ever been.

It *will* get better, you *will* go back to In-n-Out (just like I had the guts to go to the town he and I used to live in), and you absolutely will find love again.

…. this heartfelt speech brought to you by the joy I found in the banana pancakes they are serving in my work’s cafeteria this morning.

Reply

aww! so true! :) I can only imagine what you must have felt </3 I am so glad you are doing so much better and you are totally right, things really do get so much better. :)

Reply

OMG how could anyone say no to those boots on Brooke?! So glad you got them :)

Reply

I’m so proud of you Janae for getting yourself this far in 2 months. I’m 6 months along in trying to detach myself from my ex bf of 3 years now–and no matter how often I’m reminded of all the reasons why I had to end it–I still can’t let go.

I think you should impart your fabulous words of wisdom on me during our 20 milers this weekend (which will require you and Brooke to fly to DC). I’m sure all the other MCM runners out there doing their 20 milers would LOVE to have you here. We can go get Georgetown Cupcakes after!

Reply

Getting out the door this morning was super difficult. My dog is a huge help. If I don’t get up when my alarm goes off he starts whining and jumping up on the bed and licking my face. That usually helps, haha.

That cake-cookie thing looks amazing too, by the way!

Reply

Shake Shack is my favorite! I get myself out the door by saying “just go for a mile and stop if it’s terrible.” It’s never terrible enough to stop!

Yogurtland is the absolute best – there is simply no such thing as too many pictures involving that deliciousness!

Reply

Good call on getting Brooke those boots — they’re adorable. And it’s so great to hear that you’re doing better :) I can relate to some places being really heavily saturated with memories, but even those will start to fade with time, and you’ll eventually start making awesome new memories to replace the old bad ones.

Reply

Sending Big FAT Bear Hugs and love your way! I get the ouchy part of the healing process…and unfortunately, at least for me…it lingers. There were/are happy memories…and it’s hard to move through those..BUT you WILL, in time!

I celebrate you doing much better lady…I am proud of you!

Reply

I love Brooke’s boots – I have to get some like that for my niece!
The last store that I went to was Target – I think I spend way too much time in the store!

Reply

I tell myself when I need to get out the door that if I don’t I’ll probably still sit here reading blogs and it won’t have changed very much. HA…that normally works.

That picture of Brooke with the dog is seriously so cute.

Reply

Those boots are ADORABLE!! Our favorite burger joint is this place underneath our apartment… otherwise Shake Shack is pretty amazing!

Reply

If I’m having a hard time getting out the door to run, I bribe myself with the promise of sweets after the run…or fro yo. That always does the trick :-)

Reply

Stay strong, Janae! I can’t believe it has been two months already, but you have been doing great! :)

Reply

It’s hard but YOU CAN DO IT. Now repeat: I can do it, I can do it, I can do it!
There will always be random memories popping up. It’s part of your past … but there’s so much to look forward to <3

Reply

I just tell myself to get it over with. I will be happy when I do. Love the boots! :) I would LOVE to do the 20 with you…although that is 2 weeks from my marathon so I would be scared it was too much too close…but I wish I had someone here to do my long runs with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reply

In-N-Out > Five Guys. Five Guys is tasty, but I’m partial to In-N-Out because I worked for them for a long time and I met my fiance (who had also worked for them at one time) through connections I made there. So I understand where you’re coming from with the memory connection :)

Hugs there, girl. Keep on keeping on and doing whatever makes you happy :)

The Cheesecake Factory was OUR restaurant. When things went downhill and the divorce stuff started, I kept myself from my favorite restaurant for 2 years. That’s right. Two years. I could not bear to go. Until one day my friend told me it was time – so we chose a different Cheesecake Factory location than my usual and since then, I have never looked back. It is so hard but you get through it and past most of the emotions. Takes time….I need a kazookie in my life – totally my kind of dessert! October birthday? My son will be 10 on Sunday – I cannot even believe it.

Reply

There are some places which will be hard to go to, and some which will always have good memories. Try to visit those more often!

My birthday is in October! It is on 7th. So less than a week to go :D

That Cazookie looks amazing. I want to try and make one. The last store that I went to was…. the supermarket. Bla. But we had a nice Thai curry for dinner.

I usually tell myself that I will not regret it, but if I don’t go I will regret that. My favorite burger joint is Five Guys. The fries are seriously to die for. I went to Wal-mart last night to buy some things for work. I was tempted to buy SO much candy, but resisted the urge.

I love those boots on Brooke!! She’s going to look so cute in her winter gear!

Reply

So sorry with your memories of that place. You are so strong and inspirational!

Reply

You are so strong and amazing and it’s okay if there are places you don’t want to go because of the memories attached!
I would so love to go for a run with you and my efforts to keep up would be wildly entertaining (although talking wouldn’t happen)… Maybe someday (haha my autocorrect tried to say “maybe doomsday” is it trying to tell me i will never be that fast?)

October 10th!! that cookie dessert sounds like something I should have on my bday but I’m in NC :(

I’m sorry to hear you had a hard time yesterday, but so happy you have support! Things will continue to get better!

We call them pizookies here I think bc it’s like a pizza?? But I agree they are amazing!

Reply

The best burger I’ve had is Farmburger. So fresh and yummy. I’m not great at motivating myself to run long in the morning…so I make myself do a minimum number of miles, then I usually want to go longer!

Reply

Burger Tap and Shake in DC, it has a great falafel burger (great for me because I don’t eat meat) and they’ll put a fried green tomato on top. Yup. I always leave there happy.

and I will never let anyone rob me of food I love. Never.

Reply

I’d gladly ride my bike while you run haha I couldn’t keep up with you at all! I just think about the after. I’m always happier afterward, and I can’t think of a run, when I was done that I regretted :). October 7th!! Sadly I’ll just be doing homework, haha. I don’t really have a favorite burger joint, I never like the burgers haha, I prefer homemade, bbqed ones :D.

Reply

I’d love to run with you for your long run! Do you want to fly to NH to do it? ;) I can sneak you into the trail race that I’m doing!! :)

I’m an October baby–the 26th! I love having a birthday in the fall cause it’s my favorite time of year.

Reply

I’m so sorry it was a tough experience … but looks like the yogurt and cookie helped a little! I always tell myself to just try it out for 10 minutes, and if I’m still not feeling it after 10 minutes I can turn back. Either that, or I bribe myself by thinking about how great I’ll feel afterwards, or how I will treat myself when I return :).

Reply

Best burger is Barney’s in SF in the marina (The other one’s don’t seem to be as good). Seriously next time your there you need to go and get the Caribbean jerk burg. amazing.
Target. Without the little one and it was almost closing time I practically had the store to myself.
I strap my little into the bob and have him cheer me on as we run.

Reply

Totally know what you mean about memories. There is a particular Starbucks that I can barely walk by and I didn’t watch Mad Men, one of my favorite shows, for a year after a terrible break up. I love In-N-Out, but it’s not worth feeling bad.

Someone said something really good to me once, which was that if I found that I consistently couldn’t make myself get up and run, I should examine whether or not there were other things in my life that were making me feel that way. For me it’s been an unpredictable and pesky injury. But I think not wanting to get up every once in a while is completely normal!

Reply

Love those boots on Brooke! Too cute!

Reply

Oh, Janae. I’m sorry. Tough times for you – but you ARE strong. You’ve been strong, mature, and confident throughout this test. Hugs!

Reply

I’ve always wanted to try In N Out, but we don’t have them in my part of the planet. So I’m very glad to learn that 5 Guys is superior and now I won’t lose any more sleep worrying about missing out on this fast food opportunity.

Reply

I love the boots!!
I usually tell myself that my day will go better and I’ll have more energy if I get up and run.
My middle kiddo has a birthday on 10/14. We’re taking him to Disneyland this weekend :)
I’m not a huge burger fan, but we have a mom & pop restaurant that has killer sodas so we usually go there.
Last store was Wal Mart (blech) but I had a gift card and needed cleaning supplies and a volleyball (which they didn’t have)

Reply

I always tell myself that after its done, I’ll be so happy I did it…otherwise I feel guilty all day that I didn’t. I like going into work at 8am feeling like I already accomplished so much in the day.

Reply

Great job on getting yourself though the past two months. Don’t worry if you experience some setbacks along the way. You WILL be ok and will be amazed how strong you will be. Hang in there.
Oh, and have you tried Smashburger? Hands down my fav burger joint. And their sweet potato fries are the bomb. It’s already on the agenda for after the st George marathon Saturday!

Reply

Best hamburger place ~ I must say it is Washington state and it has been around for years and it is called Dicks. When ever I fly into Seattle it is the first place I’ll go for something to eat. The fries are to just too good, the shakes, the cheeseburgers me oh my!

You are doing awesome keep doing things that make YOU happy :)

Reply

Oh my goodness those boots are way too cute for words. Brooke is adorable and such a little diva :)

So glad to hear that you are feeling better. You deserve all the happiness in the world Janae. <3

If I lived close and wasn't slow as molasses I would so join you for the run!

I would meet you for the 20 miler in a heartbeat on Saturday! …if I wasn’t 7 months pregnant! I can’t wait to hear how you rock it!

I just wanted to give you a hug. You are strong and will get through this. My mom can’t watch certain television shows since my dad passed away five years ago. They were the shows they watched together at night and she just can’t do it. Hang in there and give Brooke a big hug for me. She is just too cute. I love her new boots too. There are lot of birthdays this month in my family. My MIL, a lot of nieces and nephews, my step-son, my daughter (who is turning 17 this year, I wish she was still a toddler like Brooke), and my SIL. We just have one big party for everyone. It’s easier that way.

As an East Coast person I love hearing a West Coast person say Five Guys is better than In and Out. I also appreciate Shake Shack, largely for the shakes.

I actually have no clue how I get myself out the door to run…but thankfully I do it somehow ;)

5 Guys is really good. There’s this burger joint in Logan called Center Street Grill that I love. They make great fry sauce, which is always a win for me.
Those little boots are perfect!

Did someone say Five Guys??!?! My favorite burger. Let’s go soon… Love your face!

I’ve actually never eaten in and out burger or five guys. Im sorry that you had a tough night but at least you have a great coping mechanism…shopping :-).

I did a 6 mile progression run around 8 pm last night, so I’m actually pretty tired from that still. :-)

Reply

Blech I went to In n Out burger a few years ago and I wasn’t impressed. I don’t know why people make it such a big deal! You definitely can find somewhere better ;) I say yes to the boots but who asked me? ;)

Reply

So glad you have a great support system in Utah.

I love in-n-out! Just had one this past weekend:)

If I am having a hard time getting the mojo to run, I just tell myself to do it for 10 minutes and then I can quit. Well, usually by that time, I don’t want to.

Love her boots! I’m jealous of Brooke…she is much more stylish than myself..ha!

ME! ME! ME! I have an October birthday! My goodness, I’m annoying. LOL! My birthday is the 20th. I will be 29. Again. Yep, I’m one of those women.

My favorite burger joint is Red Robin because I can sub a Boca patty. Love their Bleu Ribbon Burger!

The last store I went to was Deals on Monday. My oldest daughter was sick at home and needed some Gatorade. It was the closest/easiest store to stop at on my way home from work.

That cazookie looks delicious! I love Fosters for burgers, but our local one closed. :-( Of course we have no shortage of other delicious burger joints in our area. Every new shopping center that opens seems to have a great place to get burgers!

I might be able to run on Sat.. or I’ll do a 5k.. either way, there’s a good chance I’ll end up embarrassing myself :)

I definitely understand the bad connection with some places. I have a hard time with a lot of songs, but it’s important to remember (as everyone said) there is always time to make new memories. Keep truckin’, Janae :D

Reply

Who needs in-n-out when you have 5 guys!!!!! Plus, they fill the bag with fries. Win-win. I like that you’re still being so open about the whole situation and taking the good with the bad. You’re super lady ;)

Reply

Oct. 27th and turing the big 3-0, which I’m secretly fine with.

I agree that Five Guys > In N Out. More fries, easier customization (Lil bacon burger you have my heart) and they have Diet Sprite in the fountain drink selections and honestly, when does any restaurant offer that?

Praying for you and less In N Out moments and more new memories with the lovely people in your life :)

Reply

I usually just tell myself that I just have to do a warmup and then I can come home, but by the time I get the warmup in I figure I might as well do the workout and so on and so forth. Obviously I’m so simple minded that half of my brain is tricking the other half and doesn’t even suspect anything.

Reply

I am sorry that In-N-Out brings back emotions. My favorite place was a local joint in my home town called Red Top. Not necessarily the greatest burgers ever but there was something about them that just made me feel at home. And they were as big as a plate. Seriously, like a foot in diameter. I always would split a half with my Mom. Sadly, they are closed now.

Reply

I’m coming up on a really hard anniversary (I had such anxiety when I was writing out the dry-erase calendar in my kitchen). Some days, I just want to sit on my couch and eat garbage food and not go out the door, even for a run. In those moments, I just give myself permission to feel awful. Yeah, there are definitely times when going out for a run (or taking a shower/being a human) would make me feel better. But I’ve earned my grief. I’ve had some really tough cards handed to me, and I am allowed to hurt. So I will sit on my couch in my yoga pants and eat garbage food sometimes. The world doesn’t get to break me and then judge me for how/how long I put myself back together. Even the strongest of us take a rest day now and then.

Reply

Hi Janae!

I love reading your blog, and most days it motivates me to get out the door and go on the tempo run that I’ve been dreading all week. ;-)

My birthday is October 7th, next Monday!

My favorite burger place is the Copper Cellar, which is a restaurant unique to Knoxville, TN. They have a jalapeno kick-back sauce that is out-of-this-world.

Also, thought of you when I saw Under Armour’s “What’s Beautiful” posters. Check them out! Just google “Under Armour what’s beautiful posters”. They might help you with your “motivational quote every day”, and they might inspire some of your readers!

Reply

I LOVE Five Guys, but there’s not one close to me! Their Cajun fries? Oh my gosh. Amazing.

And I’m gonna need one of the cazookies like right now! Too bad I’m all the way in Mississippi!

Reply

I’m sorry dinner brought back painful memories. Grief can be sneaky like that. It sounds like you are doing an amazing job of cherishing new memories and focusing on the joys in your life. Hang in there. Every day may not be easier than the last, but it is another day closer to healing.

Whenever I don’t want to get out of bed to run, I think about how great it feels to know that after work you can just grab dinner and relax on the couch… and on Thursdays, I have to run because it’s sacred pizza day!

Favorite burger place? A little place called Shake & Go in Seattle. Best burgers ever! Whenever I have to go to Seattle for work, I stay at the same hotel so we can eat there.

Reply

I’m probably in the minority here, but I actually don’t even care for In ‘N Out, I think they are overrated. My fav burger joint is Smashburger, so much more flavor.

Last store I went to was Costco, does that count?!! I have a sick kiddo at home right now so I haven’t been out this week at all.

Well the only thing that works for me is knowing if I don’t get out the door early for my run, then I’ll have to use the treadmill later when my youngest is napping. I don’t mind that once in awhile, but sometimes I hate waiting that long to workout!!

Good luck on the 20 miler, I’m sure you will rock it!

Reply

Five guys is so much better than in-n-out anyway!

My favorite is the burger joint in NYC.

Reply

I can totally relate to what you’re talking about. After my divorce there were restaurants I couldn’t go to, movies I couldn’t watch, songs I couldn’t hear, even foods I couldn’t eat without falling apart. But it gets better!!! It’s been five years and I have slooooowly been able to reintroduce some of my favorite things again without a single old, painful memory coming to the surface. Time really does heal all wounds. Hang in there, friend!

i’m sorry to hear about the bad memories associated with in-n-out (especially since it’s my favorite ;)), but luckily, you’re strong and will get through this difficult time. <3

You're so strong. It will be hard, but I do know it will get better (from friends & a sibling who went through it)….along the way, allow yourself to grieve, be angry, sad, and mad. And then go run fast miles & go shopping. You know how it's done, girl! You're incredible!

I don't like burgers…but my bro likes 5 guys too!

Reply

Have you tried Habit burger or smashburger? I like them better than five guys. Both have grilled chicken sandwiches on whole wheat buns that are to die for.

Reply

You are right about so many things… 5 guys is WAY better than In-N-Out and you seriously are doing AMAZING in a matter of a few months, but I’m sure the pain sneaks up when you least expect it. You just keep shopping and staying so positive. Wish I could come run with ya Saturday. I”m sure you will rock that 20 miles!

I love Brooke’s boots! I am so glad fall is here so I can wear boots every day.

I’m a vegetarian and I like the veg burgers at Fatburger. I don’t know if you guys have that place in the U.S.? (What a ridiculous name for a burger place, haha!)
I have been to a LOT of stores lately! Retail therapy really does work :) The last was probably Anthropologie.

I used to LOVE Fuddruckers, too! So yummy.

The last store I went in to was Kohls.

Stay strong! I bet those delicious looking desserts will help ;o)

Love Five Guys. We have one a few miles from our house and go there too often. Their fries are fantastic too!

I’ve been meaning to make one of these cookies for a long time. I bought cast iron mini skillets for just that purpose.

Reply

Pazookie yess!!! I don’t really ever eat burgers. I’m not much for red meat. When I can’t get out for a run I tell myself how good I’ll feel when I’m done. But sometimes I don’t force myself to run. Sometimes I just say take it easy!

Reply

I physically cannot run after work. Ok, maybe I am just lazy but either way it is great motivation to run before work. I feel like I have a better day when I am not worrying about when I will work out or if I will have time. I am weird like that.
My birthday is October 8th! It is almost my birthday week!
5 guy is the stuff dreams are made of.
If I could run more than 10 miles and keep up with you I would totally join you for your long run. I dont have one single runner friend.

One day at a time. You ARE doing so much better, and you are in a much better place. Five Guys is SO much better than In and Out — your brain is just reminding you that you have much better taste now. . .

Reply

you are a super strong girl Janae!
The cookie looked much better than in-n-out. :)

Reply

Five Guys is way better than In-N-Out! Their fries are delicious :)!

Not for nothing, but your hair and makeup are looking fantastic lately! What have you been doing?

Reply

You are so nice! I just started actually doing it ha… Side effect of a divorce;)

I like Burger Fi or Five Guys!

I guess it all depends on how it ends. I had a boyfriend for 7 years and even though I missed him a lot, no place ever hurt. This last boyfriend I had on the other hand, everything hurt so much! I couldn’t cook for two months because the girl he left me for was a chef. I had takeout everyday. It does get better though it’s been almost 6 months and now it seems like almost nothing hurts anymore. :) It does get better and you are amazing and doing soooo soo so GOOD!

You inspire me to eat ice cream every day of my life. I must thank you for that. Also, I have my 20 miler this weekend too. I get so bored running for that long without a friend. Do you have any suggestions on how to stay more entertained?

Reply

Cazookies are the BEST desserts ever! So glad to hear you’re feeling better. :)

Reply

Keep your head up girlie! You amaze me every day & remind me to do the same thing!

I love me some Shake Shack. Oh dear. I may just have to have it for dinner now. Ha.

If, by chance, you are even in the Detroit area I will take you for the best burger you will ever eat.

Reply

I am taking you up on that!

Reply

which place has the best burger in detroit? I’ve never been and I’m heading their this weekend for a wedding!

Reply

I clearly need to find a cazookie! Wow!

My fave burger place is probably Five Guys.

Janea – I first starting reading your posts last year because you were an inspiration to my first half marathon training and I just thought you were funniest quirkiest blogger I had read of all the running blogs out there!

Then you became an even bigger inspiration when I became pregnant and I needed some good advice about running and pregnancy and weight gain. Your words really spoke to me that its okay and we all go through things in pregnancy that we worry if other moms think about.

And now, I’m not sure where my marriage is going these days. I was shocked and heartbroken when I saw a few months ago what you had posted and going through. You’re very encouraging and I pray for you and little Brooke.

I just wanted to tell you thank you for being honest even though I know you mostly focus on the positive, I struggle with that and it helps to see how beneficial positivity can be. Thank you again for being such an inspiration and not even trying to be.

Good luck girl and like you said, you are strong and this too shall pass.

PS I’m STILL trying to figure out how you can eat so much yogurt and candy and still be in such good shape! You Rock!

When we were at BYU my hubs introduced me to the cazookie! So good.

I sooo wish I could run right now, my pregnancy has been different this time so I can only run for a short period of time (a few laps around a gym for warm ups). So, post baby I will tell myself, “remember when u were dying to run? U won’t always be able to run, so fun while you can!!”

Five guys and red robin are my faves. :-)

Keep taking care of yourself and ur sweet girl!

Reply

Hands down 5 guys for the win!

The blogger meetup looks fun! Love me some Sharsti :-)

As far as the run goes I just tell myself to not put a lot of thought into it and just lace up and go. Sometimes just peeping outside and seeing the sunrise motivates me to get out there. And other times I turn some music on and dance while I’m getting ready and that gets me pumped up to go run.

Reply

Hugs! That cozookie looks amazing. I don’t know what else to say, but you are brave and strong, and Brooke is so sweet. I wish you lived near me so that Brooke and my 10 month old son could be BFFs (and I mean that in a totally umcreepy way, even if I’m an internet stranger). :)

Reply

To get myself out the door for a run that I’m dreading I just tell myself that I need to give it 3 miles. I often don’t get in my groove for the first mile or so, it takes me a while. If I’m miserable after 3 miles I can come home and try again another time. Works like a charm. Oh yeah….and I remind myself how much I love to eat treats that others forbid themselves because they don’t exercise. I LOVE FOOD!!
I really think Brooke is getting cuter everyday!!! Didn’t really think that was possible but now I see it is!!! =)

Reply

I would run with you in a second!!!! :) Love you friend! Sending a million bazillion hugs your way!

Reply

You and Brooke are both gorgeous and you are a very brave person.
I don’t know about the thing with the places. I mean it depends how things ended. For example when my ex cheated on me I went a lot of times to our favourite place…with my new boyfriend. I also gave away his season basketball tickets but that is another story :)

Reply

I wish I could just give you a hug and then we could go for a run…even though there is no way in the world I could run 20 miles. When I have a hard time going for a run, I remind myself of my ultimate goal and that helps me to just do it. I also love having a training plan, because I don’t think, just do.

Reply

I could call or text inane messages while you run 20, but it would prob be way too distracting. So instead I’ll just be there in spirit :)

About triggers… it is so hard. SO HARD. You are healing and everything WILL be alright :)

Five Guys recently opened about 25 min from me so it is on my list of places to try soon. That said, OMG I *love* in-n-out. Now, it could be the novelty. I’m a CA girl living in CO and we don’t have them here. It’s always one of the first places we eat when we go back home to visit. But life goes on and in-n-out isn’t essential. I don’t have a fave burger place out here. Maybe after I try Five Guys I will.

Reply

I don’t eat burgers out really. But my weakness is Chick-fil-A. Can’t eat that and then go out for a run!!!!
I just read about a really inspiring lady in Texas! You may have seen her on American Gladiator! It’s called the Runaway Bride. It will definitely make you smile!!!!

Um wow. The Cazookie looked really good – even coming from someone who doesn’t like chocolate chips or ice cream! (Sorry – we can still be friends, right? ;) )

Five Guys is WAY better!! That’s an easy answer even with no attachments.

That cookie dessert looks delicious!

I’m doing 18 on Saturday! So even if not in person I will be pushing/sweating/struggling/dying/lovingeverysecond with you in spirit. P.S. it’s supposed to be 82* that day in NYC. Isn’t it supposed to be fall?!

– There are NO words to do this justice!!! I love each. and. every. one. Brooke is beaituful, sweet, and talented. I’ve loved the chances I’ve had to hang out and talk with her. She is so genuine! Fantastic job as always, B!

If I’m having a hard time getting myself motivated, I’ll text a friend who I know will spur me on. And then if I’m still having a hard time, I’ll cut myself some slack and not go. Sometimes, things just don’t work. It’s ok.

I usually try and remember the feeling I have when I’ve just kicked my own butt after a run. Few things feel better than that!

Saturday, October 19!

Favorite burger place? Probably Carls Junior.

Last store I went to was the grocery store…..I go there too often!

Smashburger… Utter burger paradise!

((HUGS)) to you Janae. Those dang memories can sneak up on you when you least expect them.

Three weeks ago I was out late with friends and didn’t want to get my 30k run in, but then I decided I was being a wimp; told myself to stop being a pussy, and got out the door. Not the most positive message – but it worked!

I’ve never eated at In ‘N Out OR Five Guys (we even have a Five Guys here). I love burger restaurants with great big juicy burgers. My fave is in Banff and they grind all the meat in house and you can sit on the balcony in the middle of the Rockies. It’s perfection.

Starbucks, for a tea and a sugar cookie. Yum!

I just had In-n-Out last night with my daughter… meh, who needs it. We’ll join you in switching over to Five Guys! But seriously, I know the triggers can be difficult. Sending you a billion hugs to help you through the tough times.

This post made me cry and then laugh, which is how I imagine most days must be for you. Someday soon I hope the laughter far outweighs the tears.

Reply

Thank you so much Lily! Your comment meant a lot to me and thanks for switching over for me:) have an amazing day!

I always thought it was called a Pizookie??

Reply

wow two months already?? I can’t believe it.

I am so proud of you, you could have made everything public, hatred, etc..but no, you are a lady of class, and you know what is best for Brooke. Keep up the good work.

It hurts my heart to know you’re in pain and struggling. Sending prayers and love in your direction.

YOU are an inspiration! You are a true example of pushing forward and LIVING life, even when it is not easy, fun or “loving.” Sincerely, I am continuously amazed at how strong you are, for YOU and for sweet Brooke, and your family and friends are incredible, too! Thank you for sharing a positive way to handle life’s ugly sides and remind us each day how important it is to keep moving forward (and keep running faster, too!). Thank you!
This is my birthday month—the 18th, yay!

Whatever…In-n-Out is overrated. For sure. I’m with you on Five Guys.

The boots are priceless. As is Brooks cute little face.

Twenty miles! Please. You can do that no problem.

Reply

Oh girl….you just did NOT say that 5 Guys is better than in n out…..5 guys quality burgers I can make at home on my own grill…in and out is a So Cal staple! Although truth be told, there’s another place here in So Cal called Burger Boss that is stuff competition…all organic, grass-fed beef burgers, and the most amazing shakes and toppings!

Glad you’re doing better :-) continuing to pray for you and your sweet girl!

Reply

My heart breaks a little bit every time I think about you, so I pray for you so very often. love and hugs to you!!

I’m doing a 20 miler on the road this weekend, too. Sending good vibes your way for a great run.

I just want to hug you! You are so strong and doing everything right :) and Five Guys is amazing so who needs any other burger joint (except Cheeseburger in Paradise… I kind of have a love affair going on with that place)

I am running 20 miles on Saturday, too! First time for me – woohoo! :)

Janae,
I’m a new reader (about 3 months now). I’m addicted to all of your fun, sense of humor, and your honesty.

I’m so choked up over you right now. My heart is hurting for what you are going through. Pain and grief are so awful. It seems you are doing the best you can in focusing on the positives in your life. Thank goodness you have such an awesome family and so many friends and sweet little Brooke! I’m so sorry for how much you are suffering but hang in there! Life is full of so many twists and turns and just when you think you are going under, a hand is always there to help you out.
I deal with a chronically ill husband and we have had some whopper of bad times and bad situations. Sometimes I didn’t know how I was going to survive but I did and even though the crap we go through isn’t “over” and my reality wont be exactly what I think I should have or want, I still find joy in the sweet treasures I have in life. It makes those hard times easier to get through. ( I have 4 amazing kids and supportive family and friends, that really helps!)
I hope you are never afraid to ask for help when you need it! I was for a long time.

I said a prayer for you this morning, here are many more coming your way…

those boots are so cute, that cookie thing looks amazing and sending prayers and good thoughts your way :)

I love your optimism. Even if you are going through a lot, your blog posts make me so happy to read. I love hearing about you working to make yourself happy. Brooke is lucky to have such a cool, inspiring mom.
