My translation of a shake out run.

I had a short shake out run on the schedule for yesterday but somehow my translation of a shake out run turned into pajamas, banana and chocolate chip pancakes and a lazy morning with Brooke.   Sometimes pancakes > running.

You think I post a lot of pictures with Brooke in the leaves on the blog… you should see my camera roll.  I can’t stop.   Soon you will be seeing daily pictures of Brooke next to a tree playing in the snow.

Brooke and I had leftover pizza for lunch. I keep my day before a race eats extremely simple and carbalicious.  I steer clear of vegetables at all costs.

Somehow I convinced Paige’s husband to come run the 1/2 marathon with us today so last night we went to pick up our bibs and eat the classic race night dinner of pasta.  I have known them both since I was 8 years old so it is always a good time when we get together.

How do I always forget about how much I love Noodles & Company?

We had to pick up some last minute costume details after dinner.  I sure love this little man.

Time to get my run on.  If my legs feel good after last week’s races then I am going to go for it…. if not, I am still going to go for it but it probably just won’t feel so nice:)

How often do you skip your schedule runs?

Do you wear your race shirts?

What are you running this weekend?  Race?  Long run?  Fun run with friends?

It’s totally normal to skip a scheduled run every now and then! And even more acceptable when chocolate chip pancakes are involved ;-) have a great race!!!

I wear my one and only NMW 2009 race shirt waaaaay too much. I just love it so!!! Can’t get enough of Brooke! Keep the pics comin!

I love race shirts. Cotton shirts are perfect layers for winter running. I’m running the first of 5 races this winter tomorrow. I’m a little bummed that there was some mix up and I won’t get my shirt until the next order goes through. Oh well.

Yup, I knew it. Whoops! :)

We’ll probably do a little run on the beach today. Something sweet and short, yet incredibly challenging due to the winds and pushing the BOB on sand.

As someone who volunteers more than she races (because I’m not a racing fan), I live in my race-volunteer shirts. I have 3 jackets/hoodies from races that are all favorites and cozy, too.

I consider it dressing up on a non-race shirt day. Even today’s PJs involve a running shirt- the We are One Boston shirt and Patagonia Cap 2 bottoms. (Thank heavens my hub is a runner and triathlete, and his PJ top is his Buffalo Springs Lake 70.3 shirt.)

I definitely skip it if I’m not feeling it. I’m more likely to skip a shorter run than a longer one though. I felt those longer runs were important for my training. Generally, I really like my race shirts, especially women’s cut ones.

Reply

Love the photos of Brooke — can’t wait to see the snow versions :)

Have a great race!

Reply

I love my race shirt collection!! Maybe a little too much. I always choose the men’s sizing for the long sleeved ones because I like them big!

Reply

Have an awesome race! I can’t wait to see pictures and hear all about it! Don’t worry about missing one run; it was a shake out run anyway!

If they’re cotton shirts I don’t really wear them. I have two drawers filled with race shirts. I’ll wear the long sleeve shirts around my house and the sweat shirts if I’m running errands. I like when they give out tech shirts (especially long sleeve) so I can wear them instead of buying running clothes (I still wear some of the same since I was in HS and college…ooops!)

Reply

I never wear my race shirts … except the one from Color Me Rad because it is exceptionally soft and makes for a nice pajama top :) Most of the races I’ve been to haven’t had women’s cut tees which is a bummer.

I just got back from my FIRST EVER 12 mile run! This is my last long run before my first half marathon in 2 weeks! Eeeeeep! Let the taper begin!!

Hope you have a blast at your race today!

Reply

Good luck on your race! With all the racing you did last weekend, I’m sure skipping your shake out run will be fine. Your legs probably needed the rest! I know you will do great!

Reply

Good luck! Can’t wait to hear about it. And those pancakes look amazing.

Reply

I try not to skip scheduled runs but I do change them around as far as speed and distance depending on how I feel. If I dont get my run in I turn into a grouch. I love race shirts . I have one from 2009 race that I still wear when I run. No run today for me my little munchkin gave me the headcold but tommorrow I will do a easy
long run

Reply

And have run at your race cant wait to see the costume!

Reply

Race shirts get worn on the TM.
Sometimes as pj’s the night after the race if the run went particularly well.
Enjoy today!!

Reply

Good luck!!!! You can do this! :)

I can’t believe you didn’t want to have another “salad as big as my head” pre race dinner. ;-)

Reply

I try not to skip scheduled runs ever… but it’s not always feasible. To do so, I try and get up super early to get it in, so I don’t have an excuse to skip it later. Some of those 3am wake-up calls are pretty brutal though ;)

I woke up at 4:30 today to get my long(-ish) run in for the week, and now I’m off to work on homework before the kiddos wake up and it’s pancake time!

Reply

PS Good luck at your race! I’m excited to see your costume :)

Good luck today Janae- you’re going to rock it! Love the picture of Brooke in the leaves- I love pictures of kids in the same spot going through the seasons.

I used to wear my high school cross country/track race shirts a lot back then.. but now I never use them (just donate them) they always give me giant men sizes haha.

Reply

Why can’t they make race shirts cuter–crop the sleeves, change the neckline, etc? No, so far I haven’t acquired any that I like. I keep them for ditching at the starting line of other races (where I’ve just acquired one to ditch at my next race.)

Currently caffeinating for a ten-miler later this morning. It’s windy and mild here and it should be fun.

Reply

Brooke totally has the McKayla Maroney (Olympic gymnast) “unimpressed” look on her face at dinner :). Like enough with these photos…where’s my dang pasta?!

Reply

Brooke’s outfits are always so cute…I don’t plan on having kids for awhile, but when I do I am taking full advantage of dressing them in adorable outfits!

Reply

That’s a great race shirt! I’d wear that all the time!

Reply

If I really don’t feel like a scheduled run than I skip it…otherwise running because a chore and something I don’t like! :)
That is such a great picture spot although I will admit I am dreading snow!
I have pretty easy runs on my schedule for the next week while I am deciding if I want to give the marathon another try :)!
I do wear my race shirts unless they run too small and then I actually give them to my 11 year old daughter and she loves that!

Reply

Have a great race! No races this weekend or even this month for me but I just ran 12 miles and felt great. Love a good run. Btw, those pancakes look delish!

Reply

I stopped running for a week. I wasn’t motivatie anymore. Nog I’m back on track!

Reply

Good luck on your half! I was strongly considering skipping my shake out run yesterday and I didn’t even make it 3 miles when I finally went. I have a 10km today. Probably my last race before it snows here (which is supposedly going to happier tomorrow).

Reply

Awesome shirt! I’m running a Halloween race this morning. Just a 10k though and my friends and family are walking the 3k.

Good luck!!

Reply

I love all the pictures of Brooke! Her bangs suit her so well.
I only wear my race shirts after the races for some reason. They always become my favorite gym shirts! Good Luck today:)

Reply

What an awesome shirt!!!!! Good luck today!

Good Luck Janae!

Those pancakes look totally awesome. I love Brooke’s pics. Super cute :)

Reply

Is Brooke’s pizza shaped like a #2?

We will gladly accept cute pictures of her next to trees no matter the weather! :)

Excited to see your Halloween Costumes.

Reply

Never really a fan of the race shirts. I haven’t gotten one I love yet. Although I’m hopeful for the two longsleeve shirts coming up.

No race but I have a 16 mile run scheduled for tomorrow. Really nervous because I have to go it alone.
I have skipped scheduled runs but I always try and adjust my schedule to get them in if I have a rest day planned. I’ll just switch them up.

Love Brooke’s Fall pictures they are to cute! I wish we had more leaves that have changed but it stayed warm for a long time here. Finally got colder this week. Can’t wait to see snow pics!

Reply

Tomorrow we (family) are running in a Halloween race. At 9:40am I am running a 2k with my 4yr old, and then at 10:30am I am running a 10k

Reply

I actually rarely wear my race shirts..maybe because I need to run more

Reply

I hope you have a fab race. I did 19km this morning- bit short if what I was planning- but I felt good…just ran out of time!!

Reply

You are going to kill it!! Good luck girl!

Reply

I NEVER skip runs on the schedule… i Just can’t! I do add some runs though.. ;) I have so many race tshirts but I wear about 3 of them. I just like having them in my drawer for some reason haha. It sure makes my mom mad! Today I have a 5k but during it you have to do pushups and stuff! I was supposed to runthis morning also but I convinced myself that wouldn’t be that smart ;)

Reply

I wearing my run shirts the day after the race and then usually just wear them to train in if they’re fri fit or a tech tee. Unless I really like them… Then I’ll wear it around. This weekend I’m going for a “long run” I ran a marathon last weekend and am running one next weekend so I’m just taking it easy. Gooood luck at your race!!!

Reply

Wohooo, good luck in your race!

I skip my runs every once in a while (like I did this Friday :) I actually kind of like when I decide to skip on occasion, it is a sanity check that I am a human, not a robot runner who is addicted to running in a bad way!

Reply

Loving the pictures of Brooke, she’s so sweet!

I normally skip scheduled runs if I’m really not feeling it.. I don’t enjoy the run and its terrible if I don’t feel like going.

I LOVE race shirts and I tend to wear/swap them out on my normal runs too.

This week I’m doing my usual 6 mines today and 6 miles tomorrow, running with fiance, his mum and the dog.

Have a great race!

Go Janae! Have a great race!

Right now I am looking for the perfect race for my mom and I, big deciding factor is the shirt :)

Reply

I give all my race shirts to my husband. I’m just not a t-shirt wearing person. He loves them all.

I’m racing today at 1 in a 4 mile fun Halloween run.. It’s almost worse then a half marathon.. my lung are going to burn, my heart is going to be pumping out of my chest and I will be gasping for air.. Sounds like my idea of Saturday fun. Ugh!!!!Why do I do this to myself????
How do you stay calm and not get all super nervous before a race? I’ve been all hyped up on nerves for at least 3 days.. and now race day.. I’m having thoughts of skipping it all together.

Reply

i don’t skip my scheduled runs very often when I’m training. I do sometimes swap days.

I love to wear my race shirts! This weekend is back to back easy 8 milers.

Reply

I very rarely skip runs while marathon training. I love that race shirt. I do wear them AFTER the race. But only when they fit. I have given many to my daughter and Good Will, because they are too big.
I’m on taper for NYC so 3 miles this morning solo. Meeting, some of my Ragnar ladies tomorrow for 8 miles.

Reply

those banana & chocolate chip pancakes look so delicious (and perfect for carbloading before a half marathon ;))

have a great race!!!

Reply

I can’t wait to see your costume! I wish I was still young enough to go trick-or-treating. FREE CANDY = Sign.Me.Up!

And if you would add peanut butter chips to those pancakes, you would have eaten my favorite combination. SO good. And sometimes staying in pajamas is completely acceptable especially if it means spending more time with Brooke while eating good food :D

Good luck today!

Love your blog and good luck on your race. PS…leftover pizza is always the best!

I use my training as a rough guide – I skip some runs depending on how I feel.
Brooke + leaves = AMAZINGLY AWESOMELY CUTE <3

Good luck with your race!

I never skip a run

I thought Pancakes were always > running? lol

Yum I want pancakes. I love that Brooke’s pizza is in the size of a “2”!!! :) And have fuuuun running today!!! Can’t wait to see your costume!

I think I speak for all your readers when I say to keep the Brooke pictures a-coming! She is so.darn.cute (for lack of better exaggeration!)

I do wear race shirts, but never to actual races. I’m super particular about what I wear when I run. Particular meaning lame with no sense of style.

Good luck on the race!!

Reply

Awww Brooke is sooooo cute! Can’t get enough of that smiley face :)
And I’ll be running an easy 10. Good, Lord, all your carbalicious meals look so yummy!

Reply

I run for shirts and medals. If I like the shirt and/or the medal I’m more likely to run the race then if I didn’t like it. Sad but true. I just really like race shirts. All the ones I have are really nice but my 2 favorites are my TinkerBell Half Marathon shirt (its green, long sleeves and a v-neck with a nice shape) and my OC Marathon shirt which is a women’s t-shirt and it’s a pretty light gray with baby blue on the sides.

Reply

Good luck racing today, lady!

I hate race shirts since they’ve started giving out technical ones (at longer races) instead of t-shirts. They rarely fit well and I’d rather have a t-shirt I can sleep in than one I put in my race bucket (along with my medals). I love the 5k shirts I get, especially the long sleeved ones.
I ran the Allstate 13.1 in Dallas today and PR’d! I’m so excited and grateful to my run club buddy who paced me the entire time and would not let me quit at mile 9 like I so desperately wanted to do.
Due to life getting in the way I skip runs probably 2 – 3 times a month. I hate when that happens.

Reply

Raced a 10K and 4 cool down miles at home. It was a super small race, but I got first place female and scored a medal and a $25 gift certificate! I always wear my race shirts!! I have some that are really bad and aren’t the right size, but I have a lot of good ones too! I will hoard all of them for the rest of my life :)

Reply

That’s a nice race shirt!

Reply

I ran my 2nd Half Marathon this morning! Instead of a shirt they gave us an awesome (and cozy) hoodie. There are a lot of race shirts I don’t wear because they never seem to fit right!

Random complaint…..the race this morning DIDN’T have finisher’s medals!! What’s that about?! ;-)

Reply

Mmm those pancakes look delicious! Good luck!

Reply

Pancakes > everything. I LOVE pancakes!! ;) Have fun at your race!!!

Reply

I change my running/workout schedule ALL the time– depending on my day/mood/feelings haha. it works for me!

Reply

I have crazy bad guilt when I skip planned runs — I need to get rid of this and learn that sometimes IT’S OK!

Reply

I rarely skip scheduled runs, unless I’m sick.
I wear my race shirts if they are cute and they’re normally not ;)
1/2 marathon with my bestie today. I’m totally there for support (and she pr’d!!!)

Reply

Skipping a run is completely acceptable when you have a beautiful little girl to hang out with!!!

I’m a big person when it comes to having a strict schedule for runs… but today my IT band felt way too tight and I ended up doing 10 minutes on the elliptical until it hurt and then going to do strength. Completely ignored the run. Sometimes it happens!

Reply

Don’t schedule runs, so I have no problem with ever missing them. Instead, it’s bonus when I get one in. But then again, I ain’t a speedy pro runner like you!

Definitely wear race shirts – but not usually out and about. More like in the house to clean. Glad to hear you PR’ed (I’m a bit late on this comment) – hope those legs aren’t feeling ‘not so nice’ ;)

Reply

I’m known to skip scheduled runs in order to eat chocolate chip pancakes also! We clearly cannot be accountability partners.

I won’t get tired of your pics of Brooke with the leaves OR the snow. Since I’m in Florida and our leaves don’t change pretty colors I have to experience the seasons through everyone else.

I wear my race shirts all the time. Mostly because they’re soft and comfy and I’m lazy. But also because they’re mostly tech fabric and just walking to my car for groceries makes me sweaty.

I didn’t get to run this weekend. I was home alone with both of my kids yesterday and at work all day today. Bring on monday morning free time!

Reply

I hope your race went well! I have been skipping my Saturday runs lately…which are speed work. Oops! I wear my race shirts as sleep shirts or shirts for training runs, but not for races themselves!

Reply

Those pancakes look amazing!!

I love seeing all your outdoor photos right now, with all the leaves and gorgeous fall colors. I live in Phoenix and we don’t get any of that.. I miss the leaves! :-)

Reply

I’ve been skipping a lot of runs lately, but if I’m training, I rarely ever do.

I usually wear my race shirts if they fit well. I mean, why buy new clothes when you get some for “free?”

Reply

Pancakes seem like a good reason to skip a run.

Race shirts are usually super comfy.

Good luck on the race!
