Slurp. Don’t judge Us. The happening place.

The four of us girls owned the trail this morning.  We did 8 miles together @ an 8:04 pace.  All three of these girls are incredibly fast and one of them is right on track to be running a sub 3 (I predict a 2:55) at the St. George Marathon in 2.5 weeks.

IMG 1550

Part of our group this morning…one of them had important things to get to right away after our run (even though I think a picture after a run is pretty important;).  Rachelle and I hit up the gym afterwards for 10 minutes of strength training.  10 minutes is better than no minutes.  Don’t you love Janice’s shirt?

IMG 1552

A little while later my sister called me to go on a walk.  We walked for five miles and it felt like .25 miles….when we get talking nothing can stop us.  It is incredible how much she is able to help me…I need to pay her hourly for therapy.

Our walk just so happened to end in the Subway parking lot.  Don’t judge us for eating a Buffalo Chicken Subways for breakfast.  That is a normal breakfast food.

IMG 1558

Remember that friend I told you about that is pretty much perfect for me?

Here she is (get to know her because she will be around a lot):

 DSC 6366

We managed to fit all three carseats in the back of her car for our drive-thru adventures.    Yes, Brooke is playing with my garmin.

As you know, Utah is the happening place…all of the fads/cool things start here and then go to places like LA and NYC;)  The Slurp is kind of the happening place to go.  If you are friends with any Utahns on Instagram then I am sure you have seen a dozen pictures of the sugar cookies from this place because everyone is obsessed with them here.

DSC 6361

It lived up to all of the talk.  Dirty Diet Coke (diet coke with coconut flavoring. aka heaven in a plastic cup) and sugar cookies.

DSC 6363

We were right next to my friend’s favorite veggie burger place so I had to try one to make sure that I can trust her food choices (because that is very important to me when it comes to friendships) and I now trust her very much so.  It was delicious and even better than a normal hamburger.

DSC 6365

My goal for the day:  eat dinner at home so I don’t eat all three meals out today.  Unless I feel like Cafe Rio will make me happy.  Then I will go.

Utah friends:  Check out the Electric Run this Friday night at 8 pm at Thanksgviing Point!  Besides the race looking like it is incredibly fun, THEY WILL BE FILMING THE BACHELOR THERE.  I promise.  This is not a joke.  You should go run it for me (I wish I could be there but I’ll be out of town) and meet the bachelor.

I am very new to it but I am vegan. I love most veggie burgers, especially if they are homemade. Toasting the bun makes it infinitely better. Yum!

Rock’n’Roll Denver on Oct. 20th!! And I haven’t done my run yet today..I unfortunately decided to do it after work and it looks like it’s going to be about 87 out. ouch. so I’ll probably be running naked.

Reply

I did not run today :( :( :(…I might have an injury and I am trying to be smart about it…which is SOOOO hard! I never want to run more than when I shouldn’t!
I wore my first lululemon shirt yesterday!!!!! LOVEd it but I over dressed…I think because I was anxious to wear it :)
My marathon is in 4 1/2 weeks….Kansas City Marathon!

That Slurp place sounds so cool! I’d be all over those flavored diet cokes. I used to love vanilla diet coke, but they must have discontinued it because I can not find it anywhere ever. Which is sad.
I’m eat a mostly vegetarian diet, except once per week I eat meat but besides that no other animal products. Mostly because I can’t really eat them.
And I only like veggie burgers if I make them myself. So delicious that way.

Reply

I love veggie burgers. The veggie patty sandwich at subway is pretty good too. I’m not a vegetarian but they are delicious.

On my run today I wore capris and short sleeve because I was cold when I woke up. I should have stuck with shorts though because I was boiling by the end.

Reply

I did the Electric Run in CT a few weeks ago. It was a blast.

Reply

So jealous of your long sleeved weather! Running in a long sleeve shirt and shorts is my absolute favorite thing in the world. I have done a few themed runs (mostly Christmas) and am a big fan of a themed race. It adds a whole new element of fun :)

Reply

Not a vegetarian BUT I have been doing Meatless Mondays for approximately two weeks, haha. I’ve never had a veggie burger though!

It is long sleeve running weather where I am, and I ran in sleeves today. It’s that perfect temperature where sweat isn’t sticking to you but it’s not so cold that you can’t feel your fingers. Love it..

Reply

Long time veggie here…love veggie burgers, but the best are homeade!
It’s still h-o-t here, so running bra and shorts+sprinklers. ;)

Slurp away. be happy. :)

Love Janice’s shirt — so cute!

No judgement on the food — it all sounds good to me :)

Have a great evening!

I could never be vegetarian. I just can’t give up salmon and steak and chicken. However, I’ve had a black bean burger before and it was actually really good!

Those cookies look delicious!

I’m not vegetarian but I love a good veggie burger!

Slurp looks pretty cool. Am I reading the menu correct that they have Leatherbys ice cream? I used to live in sacramento near one of those ice cream shops, how funny!

Nope it’s still too warm here for long sleeve shirts (at least for me, but I do see others wearing them). I get hot really quickly while running so it has to be seriously cold for me to wear anything with sleeves.

Haven’t done a themed race, I would if someone would run it with me! Next race for me is San Jose RnR in about two weeks.

So great that you have such speedy friends to train with!

Reply

I’m doing San Jose too! Can’t wait!!

Reply

I’m also running San Jose RnR! It’s going to be a blast!

I thought the sugar cookies were just ok. Since you were right by me, I need to know where that veggie burger place is so I can try it. It looks so yummy and I love veggie burgers.

I am glad you got some therapy time with your sister. Sisters are the best and it seems as though your sister is EXTRA awesome.

I want to go see Juan Pablo! I would reinjure my hamstring (it is finally getting better, I think) to run the race just so I could get the Bachelor 411. Man. I am so awesome ;) But I am not sure I will be able to make it either. Boo.

No running. It was leg day and then I attempted to do the elliptical and the bike, but it was pretty half hearted since my legs felt like jello from the weights.

Go get your Café Rio on!! I think I might try Banditos tonight. I hear it is like Chipotle (yum!) and right now since I have Isis on my phone if I pay with it any meal from their menu is only $1. Ummmm score!

Reply

I’m not a vegetarian but I do love veggie burgers, well and any burger- I make a mean mediterranean turkey burger, and a salmon burger too.

Fall marathon: Wineglass Marathon, 2.5 weeks…bring it on! PR or bust!

I’ve done costumed races before, same 5k every year actually but thats about as close to a themed run as I have gotten.

Reply

It is so hot here, I’m still going straight to the treadmill.

I am doing several fall marathons and half marathons. I love the fall racing season!

I am doing the Nike womens full in October and trying an ultra in November! yikes! We ran the NYC marathon the same year!

I’ve dressed up for a few races….I love it! It’s fun!

Hmmm I don’t know if I trust vegetarian food … My best friend isn’t so into meat but I think I’d really miss it in my burger!

That slurp place looks amazing. I wish we had those places in the UK!!

I had two fall half marathons in the past 10 days! I got a PB in the first one, and had to take it slow in the second because my poor legs were in shock!

I’ve flirted with vegetarianism in the past, but right now I’m definitely an omnivore. I do like veggie burgers as long as they’re done well – I had one on Sunday that was pretty fabulous!

I am dying to go to Utah. I beg my boyfriend all the time to take me there (some of his extended family is there). It seems like the perfect place for me. Now I will have to convince him we REALLY need to go to check out The Slurp.

It’s still very hot in SoCal so no long sleeve weather here :( Shorts and tank top for this girl.

I have a fall half marathon, Long Beach! Really hoping to have a good race. My last half marathon was the Disneyland half marathon at the beginning of the month and I woke up with a horrible sinus cold and it was about a trillion degrees.

Reply

I do like veggie burgers, but what I like even more are black bean burgers! I tried one for the first time last month and I am hooked now! Even better than hamburgers, in my opinion! Although, sometimes you just need a good ole’ fashioned hamburger, you know? I’ve never had a dirty diet coke, but it sounds REALLY good! Anything with coconut flavor is a-okay in my book! You and your friends are all so pretty! And super fast!

I have never heard of Slurp! Where have I been?! I am obsessed with sugar cookies so I think I need one asap.

I love garden burgers too.

I was going to do the electric run but I’ll be out of town too. Bummer. That would have been fun!

Ugh why can’t ANYWHERE near me have veggie burgers! To get a veggie burger you have to go inside and eat. I guess I just need to move from Texas ;-)

Reply

I’m not a vegetarian (I do eat chicken and turkey) but I eat a lot of veggie burgers to get extra protein in my life! I love the Mediterranean Chickpea and Spicy Black Bean burgers by Morningstar.

I have both a fall marathon (my first…the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon) and a half marathon about a month later just for fun :) Getting excited!!

Those cookies look incredible!

Diet Coke with coconut?! Oh, I want to try that!

I was a vegetarian for a month in high school and I HATED it. I will eat veggies burgers and such because I like them, but I also like my meat. (that’s what she said).

I’ll be wearing a jacket on my run this evening – it’s dreary and rainy here. Yuck!

I’m gearing up for my FIRST full marathon in just over 3 weeks. Yikes!

I did a night race once, it was super fun. We all received head lamps and a lot of people wore neon, it was super fun.

Reply

I’m vegetarian, and really like Burgerville’s yukon and white bean basil burger. The best veggie burger I’ve ever had was actually this summer at a little restaurant (they don’t even have a website) in Lincoln City on the Oregon coast called Wildflower Grill.

Just since this past Sunday the weather has become cool enough for capris and short-sleeve shirts – perfect running weather for me! Did my second 20-miler, which felt SOOO much better than the one two weeks before when it was still summer weather, and feel sorta/almost/maybe ready for my first marathon in two and a half weeks!

Reply

hahaha what is fall? It’s 99 degrees here today :( On a happier note, I have made sweet potato black bean burgers and they were AWESOME! I’m glad you’re getting so much support from friends!!!

I used to be a vegetarian, but training for a marathon made me so hungry that I stopped. I wasn’t getting enough iron/protein. I still eat veggie burgers thought. I love them. I don’t eat red meat, just chicken and sometime pork.

I like your do whatever makes you happy mentality! You go girl!

We have a frost warning tonight, so I’d say it’s definitely long-sleeve weather around here. Brr. I adore fall, but I wish winter would hold off for a bit. And I’m actually a bigger fan of veggie burgers than I am of regular burgers… If given the choice, I’ll take a hot dog over a burger, but a veggie burger over both.

Mmm that veggie burger looks tasty!! I am mostly vegetarian, but I will eat fish, because I do like the taste of it. (just don’t like the way meat tastes!!)

Today I ran in a tank top., since I ran in the late afternoon, and the sun was warm.

Fall half for me….RUNNERS WORLD!!! :) Can’t wait to see you there!

I’ve run in holiday attire at Christmas- red/green/bells etc…..but nothing more than that!

I am quite jealous of that place Slurp! We need it in NY! My friends and I would totally be the type to load the kids in for a drive thru adventure. Ugh I hope it comes here soon! I am a vegetarian – randomly became one almost 2 years ago. I like veggie burgers but don’t eat them too often….it is definitely chilly here in the early morning when I run. So far I like the change!

I wore a tank top, shorts and gloves. It was 39 degrees. My body gets really hot, but my hands are always FROZEN. I have to wear gloves if it’s below 55.
I was supposed to be running a fall marathon, but am thinking I’ll probably end up doing a half instead.

Reply

Just got back from my 13 mile run, and I wore a tank top and shorts. It’s definitely cooling off here (was 44 this morning and 38 yesterday morn.), but still pleasantly warm in the afternoons.

Those sugar cookies look AWESOME!!!! I almost wish I lived in Utah! ;)

CULVERS HAS VEGGIE BURGERS?! I need to go there now!! I went vegetarian for about a year because of animals rights and I just didn’t like the taste. I am vegan and love the 360 meatless burgers at Whole Foods. If you’re ever in LA, try a restaurant in Hermosa Beach called The Spot. Real cheese upon request. They have a great meatless burger, among other things. I just did a Color Run in Richmond, VA. It was soooo much fun! I have a half coming up in two months, in Richmond. I hope you and Brooke are rocking it out in Utah…have a diet Coke, and anything you want for that matter.

I grew up vegetarian. So I LOVE veggie burgers!! I didn’t run today. I’m still sore from doing my “fall” half marathon in Cedar City. Have you been to Swig in St George? Go there next time. I will definitely try that slurp place. :) my husband and I did a hero dash and he walked the race in his Iron Man costume. Seriously need to check his costume out. :) that was one of the themed races we have done. :)

I’ve been a vegetarian for about 6 years now. I’m hit and miss on veggie burgers, but there are a few restaurants (J. Alexanders, Bricktops, Burger Up) that have great ones! It’s still not long sleeve weather yet here in Tennessee, but I can’t wait for the crisp fall temps. I’ve got a few races coming up…Stump Jump trail ultra in Chattanooga, The Middle Half, and St. Jude in Memphis…woo hoo!

Chicago Marathon 3.5 ish weeks. Can’t WAIT!

Reply

I’m a vegetarian! I like veggie burgers, but I really love just grilling a portobello mushroom cap and using that as a burger because it’s so meaty. You can top with cheese and all the other hamburger ingredients. DELICIOUS! I wore a sports bra and shorts on my run…and got caught in a torrential downpour, so I had to sprint home. It stunk. Does the Disney Princess Half Marathon count as a themed race?

Reply

The weather here has been so nice. Definitely long sleeve and shorts for a run. I think Utah looks like a great place to be. It looks beautiful.

I’m an om-nom-nom-nivore! (anyone get the Threadless Tee reference?)
I eat pretty much everything and anything, heavier on the vegetables and fish side of things. I was vegetarian – with the occasional bite of seafood – for three-and-a-half years. During that time, and even now, I struggled with anemia. In working to address that issue, and with my gluten allergy, I found that approaching meals as holistically as possible (for me that meant not eliminating foods and maintaining a consciousness and conscience about the workings behind how a food got to the table) was a great boost to my physical and mental health! The biggest changes to becoming an omnivore was an increase in meat consumption from 0 to at least once every 1.5 days. Seriously, it (and probably some other factors too) made a huge difference to my iron levels!

Reply

Brooke’s smile always makes me smile!

Its sort of long-sleeve weather here.. depends on the day. I love long-sleeve shirt weather :)

Reply

It is still quite hot and humid down in south east Florida so I still dress light and run in the evenings! My husband and I are training for our first half

I’m doing a half marathon next month, but my OWN. I’ve got it mapped out and I’ve been training. We’ll see what happens! I’m using this training to get ready for my NEXT training for the NEXT half.

Not long sleeve weather yet. Barely even short sleeve weather.

I was a vegetarian at one time, it was the longest two hours of my life!

Did you know that today is National Cheeseburger Day? It is. I think it’s obvious by my knowledge of National Cheeseburger Day why the whole Vegan thing didn’t work out for me.

I am running a costumed half marathon for Halloween. I emailed Lady Gaga but so far no word on whether or not I can borrow the meat dress….my second choice is a sweedish fish…

I have been vegan for almost 4 years and like certain veggie burgers…not garden burgers (basically peas and carrots smashed together, gross) or ones that taste like chemicals. My fave is from Montana’s restaurant!

I’m running a Fall half marathon, its the Fall Classic in Vancouver, BC. I’m pumped because its the 2nd half I have ever done and I think my running has improved a lot since I did my first one, so I hope do get a better time. We’ll see!

Slurp looks soo good, probably a good thing I do not have one though ; ).

Today was windy and cold enough that a long sleeve shirt was necessary. I do not know about this weather!

Reply

I wore shorts, a singlet, and gloves on my run this morning since it was 46 degrees. Crazy I know, but my hands get so cold!

Reply

I really really really hope you’ve been to swig in st George. I am actually boycotting slurp because it is not up to par. If you think slurp’s sugar cookies are good you will die when you try swig’s (if you haven’t already.) and maybe you already know but swig is coming to Provo and then we can all live happily ever after. Until then, maybe plan a trip to at George. The drive is worth it for the cookie. Not joking.

I completely agree with Mindy! Swig is amazing and their sugar cookies are SO yummy!

I went vegetarian for a year. Then this year I started eating SOME meat again – like 1-2 times a week. And when I DO eat meat, I make sure it’s bison or organic, hormone free, nitrate free, yada-yada, all that good stuff. I lost 35 pounds giving it up and could tell a HUGE difference. Now when I eat it, I can tell, but sometimes ya just need it! But I really limit myself.

Reply

Yes vegetarian 3 yrs running :). I love cheese so much that I don’t think I could do the vegan thing.
And I love veggie burgers.

It was cold here today! Not tights and long sleeved weather yet though
I have an October half coming up. Last one of the year so I’m going to just enjoy it.

Reply

I was a vegetarian for a year, and now eat poultry and fish. For some reason, raw meat grosses me out…I cooked chicken today, but put baggies on my hands when I touched it. I’m pretty ridiculous. But yes, I LOVE veggie burgers.

I wore capri pants and a short sleeve today on my run, but I can tell long sleeve weather will be here shortly. I’m not sure I’m ready for it.

Reply

Is veggie burger from Culver’s?! We have a Culver’s here, but I always get the grilled cheese and have them add veggies to it.

It was mid-90’s today, but with humidity it felt like 99. I wore shorts and a tank top for my run today. On the treadmill. Inside.

Looking at Slurp’s menu made me remember the shave ice with ice cream I used to get every summer day when I lived in Philadelphia. So many amazing combos. I’d get one every night after practice.

I’ve done vegan and veggie stints. I always found myself eating too much cheese when veggie and getting way too skinny when vegan. I had the metabolism of a mouse when I was younger.

I am vegan and have been for 9 years. I watched this video (meetyourmeat.com), and it was life- changing! I encourage everyone to watch it. My sister and I are running the baltimore marathon this year (we usually do philly) and then im running the philly half and she is doing the philly full

i never did a themed race…i guess unless you count tough mudder.

Reply

I’ve been a vegetarian since I was 13. It was mostly a choice because I really don’t like the taste of meat and it’s easier to tell people you are a vegetarian than it is to tell them that you don’t like what they cooked you.

I haven’t run yet today, so I’m still in my pajamas.

I ran an 80s themed race this summer and it was untimed and on a terrible course, but a lot of fun.

I’m planning on running the Hartford half.

Reply

I actually made quinoa “burgers” last night. I’m going to eat them for lunch for the next few days (packed some for today already). They are really tasty. I was skeptical when I made them the first time, but I’ve made them a bunch of time since.

Yesterday I wore a long sleeved shirt on my run. It was 42 degrees when I got up to run so that was long-sleeve weather for me. I scored at TJ Maxxx yesterday and got two more quick-dry long-sleeved shirts for running (the ones with the little thumb slits which are awesome).

I ran a color vibe run last weekend, and it was very fun. I loved the energy, and the course was largely flat and on dirt/gravel/grass so it was easy on my legs too. I timed myself, and I totally PR’d it. Double fun! I have a Color Run set for next weekend too. That’s the end of my “planned” runs for the fall, but I’m going to try to find a 10K to do and a Halloween run.

Reply

Fall running is my favourite. I also like winter running. I run better when it’s cold. I love wearing long sleeved shirts and shorts.

Themed runs are not my thing. I am a poor sport, I hate dressing up for stuff. call me a party pooper.

I am pescetarian by choice and non-dairy by no choice of my own – stupid allergy! So even though I eat fish, most of my meals are vegan. And I really, really feel good eating that way. Its light, I get lots of fruits and veggies, but still feel satisfied.

Speaking of satisfied, I think those sugar cookies should be in my belly immediately.

I wore shorts and a tank top because it’s still scorching hot here in Florida! We won’t have sweater weather for another….. well…. I’m never really sure if we’ll EVER have sweater weather until it actually happens! I’m running a 1/2 on Dec. 1st and I have NO CLUE what I’ll be wearing! Could very easily be shorts and a tank top…..
