Perspire to Inspire…interview with Bart Yasso and lots of pizza.

Brooke picked up the bill for Yogurtland yesterday.  She is already so generous.

I threatened this cute friend of mine that she still has to hang out with me all of the time when she has her second baby in just 4 weeks and is crazy busy with two kids.  I kind of like babies a whole lot so maybe I will just move in and be her ‘nanny.’

IMG 1268

Dinner was spent with two girls that I met in a spin class almost eight years ago.  These two are the best spinees I have ever met.

IMG 1272

This squash appetizer was insane.  It tasted so fresh.

IMG 1270

And the pizzas.   If you ever see goat cheese on a menu then you should order it.  Especially if it is on top of pizza.

—————————————————————-

Don’t worry about it…me and Bart Yasso are now friends.  I got to talk to him for 30 minutes yesterday and it was awesome.

Bart Yasoo is not only the Runner’s World Chief Running Officer but he was also inducted into the Running USA Hall of Champions.  He spends every weekend (except for 4-5 a year) traveling to different races and meeting incredible people.  He has ran a race on every continent and he invented the Yasso 800’s (an incredible workout and time predictor for your marathon used by thousands).  Pretty much he is the coolest.

A recording of the interview is HERE or the cliff notes version is below.  (PS I have a cold so my voice is extra strange in the recording)

Can you tell me about why you started running, what keeps you running!?!
-35 years ago he had to make a life change.  He was having drug problems (at age 14) that turned also into alcohol problems in his early 20s and he started running as a way to change his life and it did.  At first he thought of running as just a way to get in shape and he had no idea he would fall in love with the sport.  Pretty quickly he built up his mileage to 30 miles a week and his first race was a 10k and he became hooked.
-A lot of people fall away from the sport because they start slowing down as they get older and they can’t find the motivation to run anymore because they are slower than they used to be.  Bart is the exact opposite and he loves getting out there to run and meet people even though he isn’t as fast as he used to be.  His favorite thing is hearing the stories of things that people have had to overcome to get themselves to the starting line.

What is your weekly running schedule like now?
These days (on a good week) he gets in two runs that are about 3-5 miles long (he has had Lyme Disease twice which did a lot of damage and doesn’t allow him to run as much as he used to) and a long run on the weekend.  He stays incredibly active by doing things like riding his bike to work.

Best advice for a beginner wanting to try out Yasso 800’s? (A great video explanation of the workout HERE)
-He said it is really fun to have a workout named after you (even if people are cursing his name at the track when they are exhausted from his workout).  If you have already done a marathon and want to improve your time then use the Yasso 800’s as your goal time to prove to yourself that you can do your goal marathon time. (IE I want a 2 hour and 59 minute marathon so I would shoot for 800 meters in a time of 2 minutes and 59 seconds) You can also use them as a way to see where you are at fitness wise and to predict what your marathon time will be.
The beauty of the Yasso 800’s is the simplicity….just go out there and don’t run them too quickly.  Get used to the workout and improve and get used to them and build up to them.  If you have never been on the track just do a few of them.  Not supposed to be done at race pace…..high effort but not all out.  Should not feel like you just did a race but that you could do more.

What is your favorite part about being Runner’s World Chief Running Officer?!?
His favorite part of his job is MEETING PEOPLE every weekend at events.  This helps him to feel that he still has the connection to the sport even though he can’t run like he used to.

What is the best race that you have ever ran?
Two came to his mind right away.  The Rome Marathon because his mom came with him and he was able to see her along the way.  She passed away in 2008 so when he looks back it is a very memorable race for him.  The Comrades Marathon in South Africa is his other favorite race.

What advice to you give to new runners?
-He wants beginner runners to think they are going to be a runner for life.  Running is a lifestyle that you should enjoy and get benefits from.   He said to not put too much pressure on yourself for training for one specific race.  Focus on training for running your entire life.
He talked a little about how much he missed running when it was taken from him when he had Lyme Disease (could barely get out of bed).

Where do you find your running motivation?
-His mom and brother are his biggest running motivations, they always supported him. He said that running truly did save his life.  Without running he would not be where he is today.

To celebrate National Recovery Month you have a chance to win a race entry and travel to a half-marathon, marathon or triathlon of your choice (in the US) AND racing gear!  Video below has more info!

I started running for “therapy”. My parents went through a nasty divorce and I needed an outlet of my own. Besides The Lord and my husband, the pavement was a great release for me and helped get me through it. Those endorphins, they are the jam.

That squash appetizer looks so good. I’m a sucker for all things squash.
I’m not a runner, but I started taking spin classes as a way to cross train for swimming, but after I decided to stop my swim career I just stuck with spin because I love the way it refreshed my mind and was a way for me to get out of my own head. It’s my “me” time.

Yay for the Comrades Marathon!! :) You should also come run it!

I startd running in high school when I was cut from the bball team, but still really wanted to be on a team. The coach of the bball team told me to try track and cross country…he thought I might be a good distance runner…..17 years late, still running!!!! :)
The reason I run changes day by day…but in the end I think it is because of the way it makes me just feel better about myself. Even is it is a bad run, I still did it!
I run 6 days a week. Yes I have done YAsso’s 800’s :)
We usually have pizza on Friday nights :)!

Reply

I’ve read about Yasso 800’s but have never done them! But now I really wanna incorporate them into my marathon training! :)

Last pizza was home-made and cooked outdoors on the grill. So good; you have to try it!

Reply

You are basically famous. That is so cool!

I started running in high school for soccer and track and I keep running now because I love it and love the way I feel when I run. I usually run about 6 days a week.

Reply

Great interview! I love his advice for new runners- that running is a lifestyle, don’t focus on just one race. I started running because….it seemed fun I guess. And I keep running because it keeps me sane and helps with stress!!

Reply

Lately I have been running 6-7 days a week… I’m so tired!!! I am training for my first marathon so I am trying to do a variety of slow, fast, long and short runs! That pizza looks amazing, its my weakness!!!

Reply

ahhh brooke’s outfit is SO CUTE! that little bracelet and the animal print (i think?) shoes?! so so so adorable :)

Reply

I ran 4 miles this morning (which is a lot for me because I am training for a 10k). I was proud of myself! :) Also, the last pizza I had was Sunday evening. My friends grilled pizza with bbq chicken and feta cheese. Amazing!

Reply

My dad’s art is hanging in Pizzeria 712! Haha random.

Looks like you had a great day of eats. Thank you for being such a healthy source of inspiration.

I was working out regularly but never got comfortable with running until I committed to working through the tough times during a run. I think part of the motivation was hearing how many people love running; I knew running had so much to offer me. Since I’m still coming back from an injury I’m only running 2-3 days a week. It’s difficult to keep your legs and mind in-check and not run more often, but I’m really trying to maintain the ability to run for many years to come and injuring myself is not the way to achieve that.

Reply

I started running as a challenge to myself to see if I could do it- running was never my thing. However, I keep doing it because I fell in love! I love the feeling after a great run. I have never done Yasso 800, but I will never run a marathon (stomach condition) so i probably never will do one!! I run 4 times a week right now training for a run in november. Typically I do about 3 if I am not training. Last pizza was pesto, mozzarella, sun dried tomato, and garlic! Mmm

Reply

I have done 800s a few times. I am weird and kind of like them?! Also I agree about goat cheese. I will order anything if it comes with goat cheese.

Reply

How cool you got to interview him! My coach had me do yasso 800s! I second your goat cheese comment. I could eat that stuff with a spoon.

Reply

I started running to be more active and it has improved not only my fitness, but my nutrition as well. Gotta eat good to run good! I usually run 3-4 days/week.

Reply

SO COOL that you got to do this interview! I started running as cross training for swimming which quickly turned into me just loving running in general, moreso than swimming. Yasso 800s just sound plain scary though. I don’t think I will be attempting them anytime soon!

Very interesting to read about Bart Yasso.

In earlier days I always hated running . Then when we moved to the place where we are living right now I meet a wonderful neighbor who often went running in the evening. She always looked so happy after a run and she was so nice, so one day I asked her if I could join her.
It was completely different to all the running (or let’s say huffing and puffing) I did before. We were jogging and chatting and we became friends. I fell in love with running and gained a wonderful friend. This was 15 years ago. Thank so much, Evi!

Lately I’m running every single day. The minimum is 2 km when I jog to the bakery early in the morning to buy fresh bread.

Oh, my last pizza I had last weekend at Lake Garda in Italy. Pizza capricciosa, a classic with mozarella, ham, mushrooms, artichoke and oregano. So good!

Reply

I started running to get in shape and lose weight before my wedding in 2006! I’ve kept running because A.) it’s addicting and I kind of love it!, B.) to maintain my weight loss from our wedding, and C.) I love running races (even though I’m no record breaker!).

I have done Yasso 800’s and I love them! They are such a challenge but definitely a good workout. Currently I’m running about 4-5 times per week and I am going to pace someone in their first half-marathon in October! (My first time pacing anyone!)

I ate pizza last night!! Just a frozen pizza…Heggie’s. BEST frozen pizza EVER!!

Reply

I ran when I was in high school but then stopped for awhile and restarted a couple of years ago when I was going thru an awful breakup and was trying to work thru my anger at him while losing some of the lbs I packed on whole I had been so unhappy. It worked like a charm, am I swear running is the best therapy.

I just signed up for my 2nd half marathon last night for November. I am so pumped!!

Ps fave pizza is bbq chicken pizza followed closely by Hawaiian. And dipping sauce is completely necessary, I don’t know what I ever did without it.

Reply

I’m still waiting to catch the running bug… one of you runners needs to sneeze on me or something ;) But pizza… pizza I can talk about. Last one I had was made with pumpkin and hummus, and hit the spot in the best way possible. But it’s been too long since I’ve had one with goat cheese. Putting that on the to-do list.

Reply

Great inteview!!

I started running because I could. I was walking a lot and thought I would change it up by running.

I usually run 3-4 days a week. Heading out to run in 2 minutes!

The last pizza I had was one I made at home with pears, Gorgonzola cheese and almonds. It was the best homemade pizza ever!

Reply

I have to run only 3x a week, every other day, otherwise my joints just can’t handle it. But hey, it keeps me excited and pumped up to run :) Right now I’m trying to take minutes off my times, that gets me excited everytime I have a run planned. I’ve been doing shorter faster runs a lot lately. Mainly due to time, but also to help with my time. I started running, well because my mom wanted me to haha I honestly hated it at first, but by the end of cross country season I was hooked.

Reply

I started running to stay in shape, but grew to love it and now run purely for fun! I usually run 6 days a week, but lately I’ve cut back to 4 to incorporate more biking and swimming because I’m looking at doing a couple of half triathlons next year.

I eat pizza once a week! My favorite is probably ham and pineapple, but I like ANY kind of pizza!

Reply

I started running because of my husband – he is a crazy good marathon runner and his inspired me. Recently, i’ve picked up my running for 2 reasons 1) therapy – I lost my job and I needed something to throw myself into 2) I want to qualify for the Boston Marathon in 2014.

Reply

every type of pizza I have is cheeseless. But the last one I had wasn’t very good so I think I need to get pizza this weekend so that my most recent pizza will be a delicious, fond memory.
I started running because I was eating so much pizza…

Reply

You should totally be a nanny! I think that would be my dream job. Maybe I should consider a career change. Ha!

I am attempting to train for a triathlon right now, so my running days are down to 1-2 per week. It makes me sad, but I do love the cross training.

Have a great day!

Reply

Great advice for new runners. It’s really easy to get caught up in one race and not remember that running is something to enjoy for as long as you can!

I’ve never done Yasso 800’s but I’d like to try. It would be interesting to know what my marathon time would be (if I ever run a marathon it’ll be at LEAST a year or so from now).

Last kind of pizza I had – pepperoni! Boring, I know, but it’s my favorite.

Reply

Bart Yasso replied to one of my twitter posts and started following me last week! It was the highlight of my week! So awesome that you got to interview him!

I started running for fitness but I keep running because I LOVE how it makes me feel and I love the hard work that’s involved to keep improving. I am inspired by people such as Bart and you of course :).

I want pizza now.

I never knew any of this about Bart Yasso–he’s an amazing man! This is exactly what I needed to hear today, too: “He wants beginner runners to think they are going to be a runner for life. Running is a lifestyle that you should enjoy and get benefits from. He said to not put too much pressure on yourself for training for one specific race. Focus on training for running your entire life.” I had to quit my run early because of some pain in my foot, and I’ve been having a pity party since. I have to keep reminding myself that no one race is worth getting injured for and possibly sidelined from, though. Even if it is incredibly frustrating!

Reply

I started running after I lost 50 pounds. It was a way for me to keep from gaining back all the weight.. plus it brought me and my husband quality time together.. some thing we both enjoy doing!

Most weeks I run 7 days a week, but also mix it up by lots of biking miles. During the winter… biking is replaced with cross country skiing!

Love a rustic pizza.. lots of fresh tomatoes, green peppers and mushrooms..

Reply

I started running because I had just delivered baby #4 & #5 and I needed something that could challenge me and help me get back into shape.

I just recently tried the Yasso 800’s last week :)

I run 4 X’s per week, 2 shorts, a mid, and a long.

Hawaiian BBQ chicken pizza minus onions add jalapenos from Papa John’s. It’s amazing.

The girl in the plaid shirt looks like she could be your sister! Cuties!

I started running as a freshman in high school as my parents told me I had to do a sport. I’m still running because I love it. Running is also what helped my Dad and I bond. He’s an incredible runner, he’s done 6 marathons and 2 Bostons!!! Now he’s 68 and has more or less given up on marathons because he’s focusing on triathalons!

My running schedule as of now is so screwed up – I was sick two weeks ago so my mileage was low as I had to skip some runs, last week was a cut-back which I did the mileage for. And now, I’m trying to stave off injury so I’ve only done one mile this week. That’s right…..one.

The last type of pizza I had wasn’t really that great and not worth mentioning. But one of the best pizzas I ever had this summer was a four cheese pizza with figs. SO GOOD! The only pizza I have had that might beat it had truffles instead of figs.

Reply

Can you give Brooke my number so we can go for Yogurt when she is buying? ;-)

(too cute)

I started running as a kid to get away from my sister. Then I continued because I had long legs and was fast.

Somewhere along the ways, my love of trail running grew stronger and more apparent. Running allows me to see places, to smell things (like moist earth after a heavy rain.. mmm!), and to explore myself more.

Right now I don’t run less because we are still moving… and because, well, for today at least, my hub is having surgery. 9 inches of titanium and screws are being removed from his ankle.

When we are settled, I’ll run more. Give me 4-5 weeks, please!

I started running to keep up with my youngest son and daughter. My youngest daughter ran her first 5k at age 11. She encouraged my youngest son – 9 at the time – to join her. After watching the 2 of them run 5ks, I decided I needed to join them. I mean really, they were so young, surely I should do something to encourage them. This led to my older kids joining in on the fun. Now, 4 of my kids have run half marathons with me and one of my sons just finished his first marathon!!! One day we’d like to enlist some of the cousins and run a ragnar relay. Wouldn’t that be fun???

Reply

love the interview! he had a lot of interesting things to say!

Reply

Hellz yeah I have done yasso 800’s, but damn… you got an interview. Incredible.

Similar to Bart, (in reasons not in times) part of the reason I keep running is it’s an incredible high. I am 20+ years sober from addiction to drugs and alcohol and the whole mix, so now I use my shoes and the road to stay high. It’s better for all of us this way.

Reply

I like what Bart Yasso said about training to run for life. I tend to get caught up in things and stress for no reason. I need to remember that I enjoy running and want it to be a forever thing.

Reply

I started running for weight loss (I did the couch to 5K program). When I first started I couldn’t make it through all the 30 second intervals. 62 pounds later, I’m training for my 1st half marathon next month!

Sometimes I think I keep running because I still can’t believe that I can actually do it! I’m not fast, but I keep hanging in!

He has the coolest job… chief running officer? Sign me up!!

Ohhh goat cheese… It just makes life better! I add it to pizza, salads, sandwiches, you name it. Yum, yum, yum. Last pizza I had was a homemade veggie pizza my sister and I made – I topped the wheat crust with spinach, zucchini, artichokes, tomatoes, mushrooms, pesto, mozzarella, and GOAT CHEESE! :)

Reply

I started running to lose weight and have time to get my emotions out without balling my eyes out. It has turned into “me” time and allows me to think about decisions and things going on in my life.
Last pizza I had was caramelized onions and blue cheese crumbles with balsamic reduction. SO good!

What an awesome opportunity to interview Bart Yasso! Love his philosophy to train & run for life and not just one specific race. I’ve been running since I joined the cross country team my sophomore year in high school. I typically run 3-4 days a week to prevent overtraining and injury. Had amazing pizza on Sunday evening from a local place called Scratch. Wheat crust, spinach, cheese, roasted garlic, roasted red peppers, artichoke hearts, and hot cherry peppers. YUM! Taking my girls out for kid’s night at Mellow Mushroom tonight.

Reply

So cool that you got to interview Bart Yasso!!

I started running along time ago, for the same reason a lot of people start–to lose weight. I have kept doing it cause it’s something I can do and I love to see improvements in myself and work towards goals.

I actually try to do Yasso 800’s once a week, but sometimes I only do 400’s.

I made pizza for dinner last night!! I LOVE goat cheese pizza, yum! Sadly I was out of goat cheese but I made it with homemade roasted tomatoes and peppers from our garden and feta cheese (I like my pizzas simple with not too many toppings)–it was delicious.

Reply

Hi! I am wondering if the yasso 800s would work for 400s for a half marathon? Has anyone tried this?

That is an awesome question!!! Let me tweet him!

I started running to get in shape and wanted to do a 5k to prove to myself I could do it. Now I keep running because I’m addicted and I love races.

Never done a Yasso 800

I run 3 days a week always because I’m injury prone. Keeping 2 runs during the week and 1 long run keeps me injury free. The other days I try to focus on other things to keep me injury free like strength training or other cross training

Last type of pizza I had was Costco cheese pizza, dipped in Trader Joe’s Parmesan Ranch dressing. Yes.

Reply

wow bart yasso! he’s the best. i geeked out and listened to the whole phone call. he is quite chatty!!

The Pizza looks amazing!! The last pizza I had was from Picazzo’s. They make great Gluten free pizza that is not super thin. Kind of tastes like normal pizza!

Reply

I started running in grade school because all the cool girls were on the cross country team haha. I was the slowest back then, but then got faster and faster ;)

I did Yasso 800s once so far and it went surprisingly awesome! I have to do them again in a few weeks too before my marathon.

As far as pizza, the best I’ve had recently was a deep dish pesto pizza. It was soooo amazing!

I just read Yasso’s book while I was on vacation last month. I was surprised at how funny he is! The book is a really good, quick read full of great stories and running advice.

I particularly loved the chapter about Yasso pairing up with a burro named Taco Bell for a 10K. Seriously, if you haven’t yet, go buy the book just to read this chapter! :)

I started running so randomly. My friend from elementary school and I (in our early 20’s) decided to go from walking breast cancer awareness events to signing up to run a half marathon. Crazy, we know! Zero to running a half in 6months, amazing.

I’ve never tried Yasso 800’s but am curious if the 400’s idea above would work for a half.

I run 3-4 times a week right now. Two or three maintenance runs during the week plus my long run. Two halfs coming up!

The last pizza I ate was from THE BEST pizza place ever, FILLIPIS Pizza. If you have never had it (based in the greater San Diego area with one randomly in Napa Valley) then you have to try it. Hands down the best. I have it two nights before every long race and I get: pepperoni, mushroom, black olive. They cover the toppings in cheese and the crust is amazing. It’s seriously amazing.

On a side note: I bought TJ’s frozen shrimp stir fry the other day and made it last night. It might be one of my favorite frozen dinners to make things there. Just thought you should know!

I started running after I lost 100 pounds to tone up (I lost the weight through just walking!) and fell in love with how it made me feel!

Never done a Yasso before.. speed work gets me injured, even when I do fartleks. It suuuuucks!!!

I’m running 3-4 days a week lately and want to eventually get to 4-5 but doing so slowly!

Last type of pizza- domino’s no cheese (cant have dairy) jalapeno & onion with light sauce. Tastes like jalapeno garlic breadsticks!! SO good!

What an awesome interview, so cool you got to do it! I started running because my roommates and boyfriend convinced me to try running a half marathon with them. I reluctantly agreed and haven’t stopped running since. Finishing that race definitely got me hooked. I’ve never done Yasso 800’s but may have to give it a shot though I don’t have access to a track. I’m running 4 days a week right now with 1 or 2 cross-training days. And those pizza’s look amazing (pizza is definitely in my top 5 favorite foods). I recently had a pizza that was goat cheese, prosciutto, red onion, arugula, and cherry tomatoes and it was magical. So I am with you on what you said about the goat cheese on pizza girl.

How fun to interview Bart Yasso! Nicely done :)

I was forced into running as cross-training for my primary sport. Oddly, I turned to running after being injured. One day I decided I wanted to run a marathon before I turned 40…so I did. Right now I’m missing running a lot :(

Stuffed deep dish pizza with mushrooms and spinach. Four years ago :(

Yasso’s are probably one of my favorite workouts to do, and Bart is coming to Wineglass marathon next month when I will be running and I can’t wait to meet him at the expo- definitely someone I could probably talk to foreverrrr.

If I see something with goat cheese on a menu its pretty much a guarantee that I am going to order it!

His story is just so awesome – love Bart Yasso!

I started running as a way to shed a few pounds before my wedding. That was about 2 years ago, and I just never stopped. I’m currently training for my first full marathon which is this November. :)

I run 3-4 days a week right now. a couple easy 5-mile-ish runs, one speedwork, and one long run on the weekend.

Last kind of pizza I had was pepperoni. I know, kind of boring! But it was delicious :)

I HATED running when I was in junior high/high school. I really didn’t understand how anyone could think it was fun. (I’m still in awe of school age kids who run). Then in college, I started running to the gym and back (all of about 2 miles total). That’s when I realized it was useful for weight control. So I kept running about 10 miles a week until I had my oldest. Fast forward 12 years later when a non-running friend of mine told me she’d been talked into a half marathon. I thought — if she can do it, so can I. I signed up too. That was 7 years ago and I’ve since ran 10 marathons (with three more on the books) and more halfs than I can count.

I do Yasso’s! It was so great to read your interview. I’m a big fan.

I took up running when I was 13 or 14 and really love it. I’ve never done yassos.

Last pizza? handtossed cheese last night after speedwork.

I started a light walk job to become fit but my running really kicked in when I ran my first race, a 10k, with my Mom and since then I have had a great love hate relationship with it.
I heard of the Yasso 800’s a month before my last marathon and tried it. They are tough. I would like to work it into my next marathon training plan for sure.
I like to run about 4 to 6 days a week.
I have not had pizza in a while. I love all pizza. The pizza in your picture looks amazing.

I love your blog and the interview was awesome! I love to find motivation and community in reading other runners blogs and yours is my favorite!
I started a blog last month on my 39th birthday with the goal of running everyday until my 40th birthday next year. I’m new to blogging so really have no idea what I’m doing. My goal for myself is every day I get out the door to run. Not for specific miles or any other real reason. Just because…. I love it. I race once in a while but I just love what running does for my brain. I take a photo each run. My other goal for myself is to make my brain focus on the beauty of the moment, take a photo graph of something interesting, beautiful or inspirational and write a blurb about it each morning afterwards. Blogging and running are fun and my girls who are 9 and 12 check in every day to see where my feet took me that morning and some days (if I’m lucky) they even join me on a weekend run. http://running39to40.blogspot.com/
Thanks again for writing your incredible blog.

That’s so cool you interviewed Bart Yasso! He’s kind of a big deal.

I started running because I had always been intrigued by the sport. I didn’t grow up playing sports (just dancing, mostly ballet) so it was a difficult start. It definitely took some time to get to where I feel comfortable with my running base, and know what to expect from my body. I’m not running right now because I’m pregnant! Just walking, hiking, and doing pilates.

The last time I had pizza was a few months ago. I ordered a mini pizza with spinach, garlic (um a LOT of garlic), sun dried tomatoes, and I drizzled it with olive oil. My husband makes a mean homemade greek pizza too with artichoke hearts, olives, feta cheese, and other goodies.

P.S. I want Yogurtland, which happens pretty much every time I read your blog.

It’s very cool that you got to interview Bart Yasso! I met him in June when he came to run the Virginia Wine Country Half Marathon and spoke at the expo. He was incredibly nice! I’ve done Yasso 800’s, and I kind of enjoy them. They’re second only to pyramids as my “favorite” track workout.

OH…. pizza! How could I forget the pizza question! Last pizza I had was amazing… roasted artichoke hearts, spinach, garlic, mozz/parm cheese, and chicken. To Die For.

I literally JUST read about Yasso 800 over at STUFT Mama like two minutes ago! I’ve never done them but they seem wicked hard!

Also: Mmmmmmm, GOAT CHEESE.

Great interview, and yummmm I love pizza! I’m going out for pizza on Friday night, so looking forward to it haha.

How lucky are you to interview Bart!!! I’ve ran many Yasso 800’s and I definitely agree that they are pretty darn accurate!!!
I run 5/6 days a week and love every minute of it. Well…..mostly every minute of it. HaHa!
Last pizza I had was an onion flavored crust with onion and mushrooms on the pizza. My absolute favorite. Yum!

I started running because I wanted to lose weight and I saw people doing it and they seemed to be enjoying it. Now, I’m in love with it and I run because it makes me a better person, a more beautiful me, and I love the power I feel after finishing a run. I’m running 5 days a week lately…only 4 this week so I can take an extra rest day to give my legs a break before my race on Saturday :D After tonight’s cross-training workout (I ran this morning), I will be off until Saturday ! I had a slice of cheese pizza. It was boring.

What a cool interview!! I’ve never heard of Lasso 800’s. Although I don’t think I can run a 2:42 marathon!!!

I started running at age 45 just to see if I could. Three years later I run because it keeps me in a healthy place physically/mentally/emotionally and makes me feel “strong.” I am only running 3 days a week right now and spending 2 days cross/strength training. I’ve never done Yasso 800’s and I’m not fast, so there’s probably a correlation there somewhere! :)

Awesome getting to talk to a legend!

I got to meet Bart a couple times and run with his wife, Laura, at our running store’s group run. She’s a kick-booty (ultra) runner herself! Great interview! If you haven’t read his book, get it — it’s a fun read!

I met Bart Yasso last weekend! We were casually chatting at the campfire and s’mores time put together by the race I was doing (5k on Friday, half marathon on saturday), and somewhere in the middle of our conversation I realized who I was talking to– such a nice guy! And a FANTASTIC race experience to boot!

I saw on twitter the other day your tweet about getting to talk with Bart Yasso. I was so excited for you.
I’ve listened to him speak on the Runners Academy podcast and he is just a wealth of knowledge. I know I would be a sponge soaking up all this advice.

I started running, because I saw running as the epitome of being fit. I started with run/walk intervals to get to 5km. By the time I did my 1st 5km run, I was hooked. Then worked up to 10km and then a half marathon.
I run now, because I enjoy it for so many different reasons.

Yasso’s 800 yep done a few times, but I’m make it harder by adding in 25-30 burpee’s inbetween each set.

At the moment I run 3-4 times a week. I aim for 4, but sometimes life as a busy mum takes over so ends up being 3. The other days I cross train.

The last pizza I had was a homemade meatlovers pita bread pizza. I haven’t had pizza in like ages, so it was good to have.

I usually run 5 days a week, but I’m contemplating trying a running streak for 30 days.

That pizza looks amazing!
I’m trying to run everyday…trying is the keyword.

I started running to help with dealing with my anxiety. I started making changes in my life, and starting to run was one of those things I turned to.

I can’t believe you got to interview Bart Yasso! You are definitely a celebrity, yourself, you know?

Setting out your workout clothes the night before is a must! Also helps to remind yourself your day will be a bummer if you don’t get up and get after it.

My last pizza was this past Friday when I bought fresh dough from a pizzeria and toppings to make a homemade pizza. My husband tried to help by stretching out the dough and completely ruined it, then tried to roll it back up and start over…fail. Ha! I had to go back and get another ball of dough and the guys behind the counter wanted to know what happened to the last one. I told them it experienced irreparable damage and I needed a do-over. Pizza take 2 turned out way better with bacon & pepperoni on one half and buffalo chicken on my half. Life is good. :)
