I ran on a treadmill and it was weird.

Throughout the run I thought about all of my memories of the hundreds and hundreds of hours that I have spent on treadmills in the past.  I now prefer running outside a million times more than the treadmill but I slept in yesterday and was not about to run in 90 degree weather and suffer from heat stroke.  I may have to get used to the treadmill again for the winter in Utah when there is a ton of ice and snow.

My sister came with me and I lifted weights with her before we ran.  My arms were sore after the first set.  (PS I am doing a post next week on her arm routine with videos)

IMG 0401

The day was spent with my mom and Brooke in Provo.  Utah really is quite gorgeous if you ask me.

IMG 0406

Ashley is due with her little boy in 2.5 WEEKS.  She texted me in the afternoon that she had an emergency craving for Yogurtland so I took it upon myself to help her out.  Brooke assumed that she was sharing with Ashley and kept stealing bites from her cup.

IMG 0413

Next stop was my sister’s house where she had fresh bread and copycat Carrabba’s Olive Oil Herb Dip that she made (yes, loads of bread and olive oil make a great Friday night dinner).

IMG 0421

She was quite domestic yesterday and even made her very first pie.  The blackberries were from their yard and she used THIS crust recipe.

IMG 0410

It actually was the best pie I have ever had in my life.  Just what the doctor ordered.

IMG 0422

What’s your opinion?  Do you like the right or left PRO COMPRESSION socks better?

IMG 0431

Do you ever wear compression socks?

What is your long run/race/weekend workout?

What is the longest run that you have done on a treadmill?

Ever been to Carrabba’s?

I like the fun spiral socks on the left haha! I wear compression socks/sleeves the majority of my runs. It might help more mentally than physically but I like to wear them. I have a 15 mile run planned for tomorrow :) The longest run I have run on the treadmill is 14…and I have no idea how I did that ha!

Reply

The socks on the right remind me of Rainbow Bright from childhood! I love them!

Reply

oh my gosh! yes! totally agree.

Reply

Personally, I love the tube socks! I have worn compression socks during a run and after to help my legs recover. I definitely feel a difference when I wear them. It’s like giving my legs a “hug.” Mine are highlighter yellow, so I love that I stick out! Cars can see me coming :) (an so can everyone else!)

Reply

I do not wear compression socks but have been thinking about running in them!

Not sure about my weekend workout yet–going out dancing tonight, does that count?? :)

Looks like you and your sister are having fun! Have a great weekend!

Reply

You are my kind of girl-froyo, bread, pie, and ice cream all in one day. That pie looks amazing and your sister is as gorgeous as you are. I usually wear compression socks to recover in, but mine are boring black, I need to get some cool colors like yours-I like them both. Hope you have a great weekend Janae!

Reply

Definitely the one on the right. I wear compression sleeves, the socks usually don’t fit my tiny feet very well since I wear a size 5. But I will be sporting those sleeves after today’s 17 mile run! AHHHH that will be my longest run ever in my life to date!

Good luck on the run!!

Whoops my phone jumped the gun. But anyways, I love compression socks and sleeves and have 6 pairs of them. I really like the yellow ones but they’re both good :) the longest dreadmill run I’ve done is 9 miles and it was pure misery the whole time. I’d rather run outside, but desperate times call for desperate measures. I need to find a yogurt land. Word on the street is Boston opened a new one and I’ve still never been.

Reply

I hate the dreadmill. I think the longest run I’ve done on it is 5.5 miles. And that shocked me. I just started my half mary training and my “long” run is 3 miles today! I like the right socks! That pie and ice cream looks yummy!

Reply

Haha, I’m at the same point where my longest run of the week last Saturday was 4 miles (returning from an injury) and that’s exactly how I referred to it, as my “long” run.

Reply

I vote for the yellow ones on the left. :)

I like the ones on the left!

Right!

“Brooke assumed that she was sharing with Ashley and kept stealing bites from her cup.” Bahaha! Cutie.

I’m an outdoor runner through and through. Unless it’s below 34 degrees, blizzarding or there are tornado-like winds, I’d rather deal with Mother Nature than run on the treadmill.

Reply

Right! And that pie looks delicious!!

Reply

I hate the treadmill too and haven’t been on it in months, probably since April. I realized the other day that with winter slowly approaching, I may have to become friends with that machine once again. I so much prefer running outside. I did run a few long runs on the treadmill last winter – I think the most I did was 10 or 11 miles and I hate it!

Reply

left for sure, I am in the middle of my long run now..just over 5 miles to go..I was having a mind battle..back on the dreadmill

Reply

I am joining the treadmill hate club. I don’t remember the last time I was on one! We do love Carrabas though :-) Your sister’s pie looks amazing!

Reply

I like the swirly ones! :)

Reply

I hate the treadmill. The longest runs I have done were 2 fays in a few of 15 miles during a blizzard. Never again. I will run outside in negative temperatures with strong winds. There are several types of miserable and I prefer that type. It builds character… My longer run was Thursday and I did something to my Achilles tendon, so I am taking it easy today to see how it feels. Brooke is too cute, as are you and you sis.

Reply

I generally run my long runs on Saturday (today?) but I ran 9 miles yesterday to get it out of the way because I am driving for 4 hours today (well, being driven)
That was so kind of you to “help out” Ashley with her craving – and so kind of Brooke to help her eat her froyo ;) Now I am craving froyo …

Reply

Ugh, try to ignore the errors. Autocorrect is awesome and my phone has a mind of its own.

Reply

My longest treadmill run is 10 miles. That might increase this winter. Depends on how hardcore I feel about running in the snow. It might also be today since I have 12 miles on the calendar and can only do them mid day today. Should be interesting.

Reply

I like the socks on the right better. I’m still doing short runs because of my pesky IT band, but I do hope to get one in this weekend.

LOVE Carraba’s!!

Reply

Yellow all the way! I don’t have any compression socks. Do you find they help?

Reply

Rainbow Bright Right!

Reply

The right one reminds of Rainbow Brite and the 80’s (My love ♥) . The left makes me think of The Grinch or Dr. Seuss. Nothing wrong with either of them, but rainbows? Hellooo!!!!
P.S. Happy belated birthday to Brooke! I wasn’t able to post from my iPad the other day, but I just wanted to say how fun it’s been to watch that little cutie grow up through your blog this past year. :)

Reply

I like the yellow. I’ve never worn compression socks…

I have a 10k race tomorrow. Shooting for under an hour…(but not especially hopeful…)

I just started running in April, so I’ve never run on a treadmill, but I’m planning to buy a gym membership for a few months this winter to keep with it. We have one close that’s just a small place with a month to month plan and they have 2 hours of child care a day. So I can get the big kids to school and then head over after that. I’m not especially looking forward to it, but it’ll keep my strength up anyway. And I should be able to still run outside once a week as long as its not too too cold since my hubby is off on Mondays.

We have been to carrabas but we prefer brio, their bruschetta is to die for!

Reply

I have a 10k tomorrow too :) I’m also aiming for under an hour. Good luck!

Reply

I like the ones on the right better.

Oooh it’s tough to decide between the two! I love neon so I am going to go with those. I absolutely love compression socks and have more pairs of ProCompression than I really need. I have an 8-miler on the schedule for this morning so I’m trying to decide which pair to bust out for that run ;) The longest run I’ve done on a treadmill was 12 miles and I always tell myself I won’t do anymore long runs on the treadmill but I’ve had a couple 10-milers on that thing. It’s just too convenient when weather/timing doesn’t work for an outside run! Treadmill running is better than no running!

Reply

I like the yellow socks!

I only go on the treadmill when it’s around – 30 (C) I think the longest I’ve done is 10 miles or so. boo.

Hey- if you have time- can you do a sample meal plan for Brooke , like what she eats in a day? I’m pretty random with my little guy, just keep grabbing stuff out of the fridge till he eats something.. haha.

Reply

So excited to see your sisters arm routine!

Reply

I love the yellow ones! I wear compression socks on EVERY SINGLE run. I don’t think I would be able to get through the higher mileage I’ve been putting my body through without them! They are a life saver and really save my legs! PS. That blackberry pie looks AMAZING!

Reply

I think fresh, crusty bread with olive oil & herbs is one of the best things ever. I might sometimes just add a salad, and call that dinner (shh…carbs!!!).

We let the breadmaker make pizza dough, then just smush it out flat on a baking sheet, adding herb & oil to the top, and baking until brown. Civilized people might cut it, but we just go at it with our hands. :)

I know there’s been lotsa internet love for the retro compressions on the right, but white socks aren’t a wise idea for me. I’d go with the neon on the left, personally. :)

Reply

Right sock for sure!
If I could have a bite of that pie right now I would! I can’t wait for your sis’s arm videos. That was a great idea to do them!

Reply

I love my ProCompression socks! I wore the retro ones for a race a few weeks ago and got a lot of comments. I have them in nearly every color and just got a few low trainers for short runs. They’re the best!

Reply

I like the swirly sock on the left best! And yep, I wear my pair of procompression socks after long runs – it makes such a big difference in recovery time!

I don’t have a long run today…I’m starting my taper week for my half coming up on Saturday!

Reply

I like the tube socks better, but I probably wouldn’t wear either of them in public. ;) I do wear compression socks or calf sleeves a lot (pro compression is my favorite!!!), mostly after speed work or long runs.

I’m doing a 15-miler today with a friend! We’re rebuilding our mileage after some tough summer races (50’s and 100’s!) that left us in recovery stage for a few weeks!

Reply

I have the socks on the right. Love them.
I have done a 20 miler on the treadmill in February.
We don’t have a Carraba’s in Iowa

Reply

I have a hard time doing more than 10 on the dreadmill & even that’s really pushing it! We have a low key w/e, getting ready for a trip to Maine next Thurs. Did my long run yesterday (2+ hours of trail running in cool temps…awesome!), so lots of playtime w/my girls today!

Reply

I vote for the socks on the right– they remind me of Rainbow Bright! I’ve been debating trying the ProCompression socks– I’m marathon training and have friends who swear by them. Maybe they’d help post long-run? When I was training last summer, I busted out an 18 miler on the dreadmill. How long did it take? I watched Titanic from start to finish. Looking back, I have no. idea. how I did it without losing my mind!

Reply

I love the swirl socks but the retro ones are adorable too! They are both equally fantastic! :) And can’t wait for the arm workout from your sister! She has killer arms!

Reply

I like the socks on the right. They look old school to me, and I always like the classics. :) This weekends long run for me was supposed to be 9 miles but it turned into about 7 and a half miles when I had to unexpectedly stop. But that’s okay.

I absolutely hate running on the treadmill too. I only do it in the winter when it is freezing outside and I can’t stand to run outside.

Reply

I am feeling the same way about the treadmill. I was treadmill only until about 6 weeks ago when I got brave and took it outside. Now I’m dreading winter when I will have to. Every time you post pictures of Utah I want to visit, so beautiful! It’s on my bucket list.

Reply

I vote for yellow socks. This reminds me to go find my compression socks. They’re somewhere back there in my drawer.

Reply

I’ve never worn compression socks, but have them on my Amazon wish list for Christmas or birthday ;)

I work wknds only so I tend to only have short, <4 mile runs then.

The longest I've ever done a treadmill run, or any run, is 10 miles. I'm training for my first 1/2 now & the July heat in Arkansas is brutal!!

No Carrabas near where I live in Arkansas, but some awesome local Italian places with great locally made bread and butter ;)

Btw: is it always so pretty in Utah?! Your pictures always look like you are at a resort. And tell your mom and dad that they make beautiful children. Your sister and self are beautiful women! (Don't remember seeing pics of your brother).

Reply

I used to be a major treadmill runner too, but here lately I’ve been waking up early and getting my runs in outside, before it gets too hot. However, I have been known to pop in a couple of movies and run for about 20 miles on the treadmill. ;)

Reply

That bread and olive oil dip look super good! I’ve never heard of an olive oil dip, so I’m curious what it would taste like. Hmmmm my boyfriend has the socks on the right, I love them, but I do love the swirl ones on the left!! I love the two that have, they are life savers!! Especially now that after my long runs, I have to walk all over campus. Long run today!! If I’m not too sore that is lol hoping for 8 miles! Longest run I’ve done on the treadmill, was 15 miles. That wasn’t physcially hard, but it was beyond mentally hard lol.

Reply

The socks on the left are my pick, I love the yellow !

My longest run on the treadmill was 10 miles, I only made it through because I had ‘The Price is Right’ on TV lol

And Brooke just gets cuter and cuter with every post, she must get exhausted from being so adorable all the time!

Reply

Yum homemade pie!!
I like the one on the right, it reminds me of my high school socks for some reason. Retro!
I am supposed to run 20 miles this weekend but I have the very worrisome feeling that I might have a femoral stress fracture! Eeeeeeek trying to get in to the doc ASAP and hoping so badly that its not that and it’s something very easily fixable.

Reply

I love the yellow socks!!! The others are cute, too, though. My compression socks are boring and white. May need to remedy that. I never used to wear them, but since switching to lower profile shoes my calves get sore more often and the compression socks definitely seem to help.

I run on the treadmill some in the winter, because it is too dark in the morning to get my run in outside during the week. I much prefer running outside. Especially in the winter. I love running outside in the fall and winter.

Carrabbas is one of my favorite restaurants. Love the chicken bryan and the pasta sostanza! :)

My weekend run was an easy 8 miler…special bc we are moving to a new house tomorrow. I will miss my Saturday long runs in this area very much.

Hope you have a happy weekend!

Reply

I wear CEP Compression. Have you tried them? I think they’re pretty wonderful. However, I think I’m going to get a pair of PRO. I’m just starting my 1/2 training and know I’ll need more than one pair of compression socks :)

Reply

Gotta go with the ones on the right. No doubt.

Reply

The white ones! I don’t wear them because I never feel a difference if I wear them or not. I’m more likely to wear them in the winter because they keep me more warm! Workout this weekend is Soldierfit class (like a very intense boot camp), 6 mile run, soccer game and a swim (tri training here). That pie looks amazing! And I’ve never been to Carrabba’s – Olive Garden fan here!

Reply

I love the old school socks on the right :-) I love me some PRO Compression socks– they’re addicting!

I only have six miles on the schedule today and the weather is in the 70s and sunny so hopefully it work out!

Hope you enjoy your weekend!

Reply

I like the one on the right better!
This weekend I’m doing 15 miles. Better get going before it gets too hot!
The longest I’ve run on a treadmill is 10 miles but next week based on my intense time restrictions, I will probably have to do my 20 miler on a treadmill. That should be interesting.
I love ProCompression socks. I’ll definitely be wearing some today after my run!

Reply

I like the socks on the left. I’ve never worn them, but from all the hype I’m thinking maybe I should try a pair. I’m thinking hot pink might just top off the look for me. Ha!

I’ve been to Carrabas a few times, but I have to confess I much prefer Romano’s Macaroni Grill. Their menu has a certain creative sophistication that Carrabas seems to lack. Some of the food at RMC stimulates the mind too I think. Carrabas seems to play to the lowest common denominator. But that’s just my opinion.

Reply

I’m about to be in the same treadmill situation! i’m going to just embrace it :)

i want some compression socks!

Reply

Looking forward to the arm routine video. I need motivation to do something other than cardio!

Your sister is so cute with her pie. The photo reminds me of a little kid saying “look Mom, I did it!”

I moved long distance recently and have gotten all out of sorts mentally and physically. Going to sit and type out some goals and how to achieve them. It is super hot & humid where I live so I’m going to start the intro to Insanity DVD. Yes just the intro b/c I want to see how I like it before plunking down $$ for the full set. The intro was only about $25 or so through Amazon.

Reply

I love compression socks. I like them both really.

But what I really scrolled down to the comments section for was to tell you that Carrabba’s is the best restaurant ever in the history of ever. In fact, their food is what got me interested in running in the first place. My friend talked me into doing my first 10k years and year ago in Raleigh and Carrabba’s catered the post-race party with Chicken Marsala, garlic mashed potatoes, and that yummy bread and herb dip. I was hooked! I couldn’t believe races gave out such good free food! And furthermore, I was so completely sold on Carrabba’s that I was one of their first customers when it opened in my town.

Reply

That pie looks delicious! I am a fan of the yellow compression socks! Never tried compression socks, but I have heard great things. Happy Saturday!!

Reply

I have never worn compression socks but really felt like I needed some at mile 17 today. When I finished at mile 18 and got in my car I thought my legs were going to cramp up! I just don’t like the look of them. Can you not run in them and just wear them for recovery?

Reply

I wear mine for long runs and recovery :)

Reply

I wore compression socks when I had fluid retention from my surgery and they are the ONLY thing which helped me out. I swear by them for calf problems! My long run was yesterday of 2 miles!!! Pure bliss :D Longest run I have ever done on a treadmill was 14 miles when I was training for my half. Dumb idea. Although I am a huge neon fan, I like the socks on the right because they remind me of 90s kick-ball socks!

PS. You are your sister are so, so gorgeous!

Reply

Go for the yellow! Do they help recovery wearing them after a run? I’ve never liked anything on my legs during runs but have had to use a sleeve on occasion when dealing with a calf injury. Recently discovered foam rollers which has been a Godsend for those issues.

Absolutely cannot stand dreadmills – longest runs on one were never more than 3-4 miles. Can’t get comfortable. In an emergency at home, I’ll use the elliptical ora mag trainer with my bike. Pick a good DVD and go. In the winter I am lucky because I have access to a great indoor track.

No workouts are long yet. Just starting back after a long layoff plus need to shed some weight. Decided to try trail running this week which has been great on the legs. Now just have to make sure I don’t make wrong turns. GPS had to bail me out yesterday.

Been a while since I’ve been to Carrabba’s. Love the dipping oils though. Now I’m hungry…

Reply

Love the ones on the left!

I’ve never worn compression socks. My “long” run was 3 miles this morning. Building my base again after being out for an injury!
I hate running on treadmills, so I don’t think I’ve ever made it more than 3 or 4 miles.
Loved Carrabba’s in high school. Haven’t been in a while!

Janae! I selfishly am so sad that you are gone! I will miss you (and wish Brooke and Ellie could still be little buddies… Maybe they should be pen pals?!) and want to send our love and support! Also, I support that pie crust. I just made it last night to use on a chicken pot pie for the chicken cook off tonight. So good.

Treadmill running is hard for me, but when the weather is SO warm, then I will go to the gym. The only problems I have in winter is looking out for ice! (Although I kind of wish it snowed!). I BLAST my music to help me with the treadmill, which is nice. I like the socks on the left! I like the blue!! :)
And glad you’re doing a video on your sisters arm workout! Still can’t believe she wasn’t flexing in that picture!

love carabba’s olive oil dip– now i want that for breakfast!!

Yesss I love compression socks and I stand by the fact that I started the trend over 2 years ago by buying a pair from a hair supply store, meant for people with diabetes.. I just got a pair from PRO and I love them but they come past my knee cause my legs are short!

I was going to run 9 miles this morning but I overslept.. shooting for 8 or 9 tomorrow :-)

Longest run done on a treadmill at one time was a little over 6 miles, then a few hours later I did 2 more miles so 8 total! I can barely run 2 miles on it now!

Never been to Carabba’s!

I like the white sock on the right!

You and your sister look so much alike and that pie looks yummy!! I like the crazy sock on the left :) I’m actually wearing hit pink compression sleeves right now. I’ve taken the last 2 days off due to shin splints and I’m hoping between that and my sleeves, I’ll get through my 16miler tomorrow. I think the longest I’ve done on a treadmill is 8-9 miles, yuck!

Reply

Do you ever wear compression socks?
Never work compression socks but will probably have to when I start running really long runs.

What is your long run/race/weekend workout?
Just finished my long run of 4 miles (I know, not that long, lol) in the 93 degree heat…killer!

What is the longest run that you have done on a treadmill?
Longest run is 7 miles but I hate running long runs on the treadmill because they stop after 1 hr and then you lose your groove and have to restart the machine…no fun!

Never been to Carraba’s but the bread and pie look delicious!

have a great weekend!

Reply

I despise the treamill so badly, I think I haven’t seen one in 3 years or so! And the longest I’ve spent on it was probaly 45min… but you definitely made the right decision-running in the heat is no joke.

I can’t wear compression socks-I suffer from bad blood circulation and I almost got a blood clot once when running with compression sleees :( Anyway, I’d definitely pick the compression sock on the right ;)

Long run=16 miles in Cntral Park tomorrow morning!

Reply

I like the ones on the right! I love compression socks; I wear them after long runs (and sometimes during).

That pie looks amazing. You may have just inspired me to bake stuff today!

Sooooo… tell your Sis that she inspired me to make a pie and mine is in the oven right now, smells amazing! I used the PW crust recipe, too. I hope it’s good.

My long run is tomorrow and will be 14 miles of rolling hills. No watch, just run :)

I have tried several times to wear compression socks and I just don’t like them. I dunno, maybe I’m missing something.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Reply

I really liked wearing compression socks when I was running. Now I wear them with my boots :). I’ve never ever been big on treadmill running but once I did 2 hours and 10 minutes on the elliptical (which was 20 elliptical miles). I was trying for 3 hours (26.2 elliptical miles) but got #BOREDBEYONDBELIEF. Not sure I’ll get to work out this weekend. Childcare issues :(

Reply

This past winter I would occasionally do 3-4 miles max on the treadmill when I didn’t feel like getting all layered up just to run such a short distance, but it was miserable.
I don’t think I could ever live in a place where the summers get so hot and the winters so cold that I wouldn’t be able to run outdoors all the time. Seattle is perfect!
I have compression socks that I usually wear after my hard speed workouts and long runs, but never during. I love wearing them to bed :P

Reply

The left socks! I did about 6 today then I’m resting tomorrow. It’s been a hard running week. I think I got up to 9 miles once on the treadmill. Pure. Misery. I know it’s a sin, but I have NEVER had froyo. It makes me sad!

Reply

I have the socks on the right!!..so I am biased and think those are better ;)

I’m crazy. I love the treadmill. I regularly run 18-20 miles and nearly all of my other training runs on it. I take my iPad to the gym and watch the shows I don’t normally have time to watch: Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars….you get the drift! The treadmill has made me so much faster! I took 50 mins off my marathon time last year due to a faster cadence.

I like the old school socks on the right! I love compression socks and have started wearing them during and after my long runs.

My long run is 18 this weekend, but I’m doing it in Monday. I have my son this weekend (I’m also divorced) and we are going to play as much as possible!

Reply

I’m wearing compression socks right now! Post 10 miler.

The longest treadmill run I’ve done in over a decade is about 3 miles. I think it’s harder than running outside, weird, huh?

left socks are so cool!

I went to Carrabbas’s for the first time on Tuesday and they sat us at the pizza bar. have you ever sat there? It’s AWESOME! They give you free samples and you can watch them make all the food. Heaven.

I like the left socks best!

I am very excited for this arm routine. Funny story about compression socks…so I lost mine after using them once in February and have been complaining about it ever since. Well the bf spotted a pair on SAC and jumped at the chance to get a pair at half price. Well I just got them in the mail yesterday and turns out they are skiing compression socks. Sigh… I mean they will come in handy when I can finally be released to ski, but I need some light weight ones for plane rides so my ankle doesn’t swell up to twice it’s size (from the residual swelling in my knee). I think that means I just have to get the retro ones you have on the right that I have been eyeing for a few weeks now.

Have a great weekend! We’ll be watching a friend run the Leadville 100. She is pretty much a badass.

Reply

I love PC socks, but as much as I love the 2 designs, there’s just something unflattering about stripes going around my man calves—I think those are better suited for girls like you with the skinny legs!
I think 8 miles is probably my TM high–

Yummm you have inspired me to make my own bread and dipping sauce tonight. SO GOOD!!! :) Those socks are pretty awesome, too. And Brooke looks very content playing with those pop up containers! I hope you have an amazing weekend, Janae! You deserve it :)

My long run was a 13 mile run. 46 miles this week! I’m coming back from an injury so its been a long time since I’ve ran that much :) Longest I’ve ever done on a treadmill is 10.

I think the only thing I miss about Utah is the beautiful mountains. I’m not a snow person AT ALL! But I did love living minutes away from awesome hiking trails when I was at BYU :)

Super excited to hear about this arm routine. I need something to change mine up.

Temple+Pie+Bread sounds like the best day ever

I’m here in Utah too and my summer month running is the pits. I slept in more than planned today, so left at 9am – that was too hot for me. I love running in the spring, fall and winter. Just not so much in the Utah hot summer. If you stay, you’ll like the cold months too. You go faster and have more energy, it’s great.

Reply

Wish I had a Utah “hot” summer to run in…come on down to Texas!

Reply

The weatherman reported last night that 1/2 the days this summer have been in the 100s (and I should probably mention I am a lunch hour runner, not a before work runner). Being an Oregonian, Utah is too hot for year round runners like me.

Reply

I love the sock on the right – very retro!

My run this a.m. was 18.5 miles…my longest ever! Sadly my longest run on the treadmill to date is only 3 miles. For some reason treadmill running is agony for me (more so mentally than physically) so unless it is severely storming or sub-zero, you will always find me outside.

That pie looks incredible…enjoy!

Reply

I like the rainbow brite socks on the right. I haven’t used compression socks yet but I have a feeling they will enter my wardrobe soon since I’m training for my first marathon.

I LOVE procompression!!!! I like the right better…the left is just a little too loud for me :).
I had an awesome long run of 15 miles at a 7:51 pace. It felt awesome and I finished fast. Today I am a bit worn out!
I am NOT a fan of the treadmill, but will do it in weather extremes. They don’t plow that well in my town so if we have a bad snow I am stuck on it. 10 miles I think is the farthest I have gone on it…but I am usually done at 6 and can sometimes force 7 or 8.
I wanted to ask you how you get started doing giveaways and what ads you use for your blog. I want to do a giveaway on my blog, but I have no idea where to start….There are a few products I would just love to do a giveaway for! Any tips would be so appreciated!

17 Saturday…..well technically this morning. Saw you on the end of the Murdock trail this morning!!!
I like the red, blue, and yellow pro compression socks!!
Hope your having a wonderful weekend!

I use compression socks on long runs and races.

I did my FIRST 16 miles today!!! I ran with my running club and they had a sign they made that says “My first 16 miles” so they took a picture of me holding it. I probably look like heck because hello, we just ran 16 miles and it was HOT but I am so proud of myself!

I think my longest treadmill run has been 10 miles and I have never been to Carrabba’s or heard of it before but that bread looks delicious.

I had a 16 miler this morning (outside) but I have done many 16-22 mile runs on the treadmill before. Winters in NY can warrant it, sometimes it’s just really not worth slipping and falling or getting buried in snow ya know?

I wear compression socks/sleeves a lot. I’m big on using them for recovery. Sometimes I will use them during a run, but not often.

Reply

I like the right one better! More stripes! I wear compression socks or tights. I always wear compression socks after long runs for recovery too! It definitely helps.

I did tough mudder on the Sunshine Coast Australia. 18km’s and 18 obstacles!

The longest run I have done on a treadmill was 15 miles. I started to get really angry at the people running next to me at the gym that would come and go after a mile or two. What the crap? I have 7 more to go, therefore I hate you! I normally never run on a treadmill, but it was really bad weather that day and I needed to get a long run in. I ran a 10 this morning on a pathway in Ogden. Loved it! So pretty and I didn’t get attacked by a bum, which is also a plus. P.S. like the reading material on your treadmill. :)

I am still loving my treadmill and do 50+ miles a week on it. I just zone out and don’t have to worry about tripping, cars, pot holes, dogs, darkness, snow, excessive heat, humidity, or rain. The longest I have run on the treadmill was 15 miles.

I like the compressions on the left, you will definitely be visible lol.

I ran 11.100 miles today and plan to do 10.5 tomorrow.

We have a Carrabbas near us and have been there a few times. I love the herbed olive oil to dip my bread….so yummy

Can’t wait to see your sister’s arm workout! :-)

I love my compression socks and wish that I hadn’t forgotten and left them at home this weekend. We ran 12 miles on the concrete Virginia Beach boardwalk this morning and my legs are BEGGING for their compression socks!

Reply

I used to wear compression socks religiously but not so much lately. I feel some twinges on occasion so I need to get back in them. I love the yellow ones.
The weather in Texas has been amazing for running the past week (the kind that makes you feel like mother nature is high fiving you). Today’s run was 10.5 miles at 60 degrees. Heaven!
Longest treadmill run was 12 miles. Now I can’t stand to do more than 5.

Reply

The longest I’ve done is 10 miles. I can’t stand much more than that!

Reply

Right sock! I love compression gear :-)

Running tomorrow, prob 5 miles.

Getting ice cream now!

I’ve been looking for an arm routine!! I’m pretty psyched to see what your sister does after seeing her arms in that photo of her sitting in the middle of the road

By the way, I was sorry to hear about your recent news. I’m happy knowing you are surrounded by friends and family. I know you may feel like you are currently in the trenches, but this too shall pass. One of my favorite quotes is, ” Life can be summed up in three words, IT GOES ON.” I often think of that quote when dealing with difficult times. I hope Brooke had a terrific first birthday.

I just had Carrabbas last night. Their bread and dip is amazing, and I had leftover spaghetti for lunch. It was delicious.

That pie looks so good!

Reply

I love the ones on the right! I am a huge fan of dipping bread in anything. I haven’t been to Carrabas in forever but am now realllyyyyy craving some!

Reply

I like the funky ones on the left! I love compression socks, but I tend to only wear them in the winter. I only like to run in shorts, so when it’s super cold outside the compression socks cover up half my legs!

Reply

I’ve never even heard of that restaurant. But I really want to go there. I’m waiting for my swirly socks! Hope they come today! HUGS!

Reply

I love both sock!!! I have never worn the complete sock, just the calf sleeves, But I think I saw a groupon for the Pro Compression socks so I am going to get a full pair instead of just always buying the sleeves.
The longest run I have done on the dreadmill :) is either 10 or 12. Nothing like the runs you have done. I dont know how you do it, but when you put in a good movie it makes the run better.

Reply

Left :)

My legs have been so sore lately and my compression socks have really helped ease that.

Reply

That pie looks amazing! She must have a ton of berries in the yard.

I love Pro Compression! The socks on the right are definitely the best.

My long run this weekend was 13, but I think it counts for more because I spent the rest of the day cleaning out our basement and making runs to the dump to get rid of over 500lbs of junk.

Reply

I ran a pretty solid 10 miler this morning so I am currently wearing bright green and pink pro compression socks right now, with lululemon compression shorts. Zach really is a lucky man . . . sexy.

Reply

Love the socks on the right! I just ordered my first pair, but have never tried them before, so I’m anxious to try them. They are FERN GREEN and i’m so excited about that b/c I love my green. Treadmills and I have a love/hate relationship. Since I live in Ohio, i’m bound to the ‘mill in the winters, but I can’t do more than about 6 miles on it…LOVE Carraba’s! I’ve only been once, but I have coupons for there in my purse right now, so I can’t wait to go back!

Reply

What is this Carrabas herb dip and how so you make it? Do I see thyme? Yum!

Reply

I wear compression socks after long runs and when I travel which isn’t that often lately. I love the striped ones on the right for sure. I have hot pink ones that I love.

That pie looks freaking delicious. I need some right now.

p.s. excellent reading material for your treadmill run! ;)

i’m obsessed with carrabbas!!! unfortunately little is dairy and soy sensitive so i can’t go there anymore until i’m done nursing. it’s too hard to find menu items that i am able to eat!

Reply

I definitely cannot wait to see your sis’ arm routine :) I love my compression socks, but I have to say I never wear them to run in, but use them for recovery afterwards. Am I wearing them wrong?!

I kinda hate my treadmill for long running, I do LOVE it for sprint intervals.

Thanks for writing :). I know that I don’t ‘know’ you, but my heart is just so full for you right now.

The rainbow brite socks rock! Marsala chicken with cavatappi yummmmmm! I’m so happy that you are continuing to write/blog :-)

Janae and all other Utahns,

Cox Honeyland in Logan has blackberry creamed honey! A few weeks ago was the first time I’d ever seen it there!

All others,

If you’re curious, check out their website. I’m not sure if they have it for order or not.

Oh, and the almond creamed honey is the best-ever! I made sure to stock up before we moved from Utah 2 days ago.

I always wear compression calf sleeves when I run. I find it helps my calves quite a bit.

I have my 4 mile long run tomorrow. I’m only working my way up to a 10k so no crazy mileage for me yet.

I’ve never, ever run on a treadmill. We don’t have gym memberships and we have an elliptical in our basement instead of a treadmill. I run outside, even in the winter.

I went to Carrabba’s for the first time earlier this year. We had a gift certificate, which is the only reason we ended up there, but I’m so glad we did! Their bread and olive oil is to die for. We’ll probably never go to Olive Garden again!

Reply

Love, love, love Carrabba’s!! Sadly, the closest one is an hour and a half from where we live. :( Can you share the olive oil and seasoning mix your sister used? I would love to try it!

I’m NOT a treadmill runner. In fact, it’s excruciating for me. The most I’ve probably ever run on a treadmill is 8 miles.

Tomorrow, I’ve got a 1o-miler on the books. Not really looking forward to it as I’ve been feeling really tired lately, but we’ll see how it goes!

Oh, I like the socks on the right better…very fun! :)

Yellow with swirl socks are way cute!

Reply

Love them both! I’m a pro compression wearing girl all the way! I did 19 miles yesterday for my weekly long run! I avoid treadmill runs as much as possible. My last and longest was in November of last year while we were in Vegas. I ran 11 miles. Mind over matter. Pie is not complete without ice cream so you did it right!! Yum!!! Have a great rest of your weekend!

Reply

Oh my goodness the yellow swirl socks look so much better “in person” than they do in the pic on their website!! I must have those!!!

Reply

Right! I need them. Love pro compression.
Will you email the olive oil recipe?
Speed work at the track today! Tomorrow is rest

Reply

The left ones for sure.

I tap out at 4 miles on the treadmill. I haven’t ran on it in a while because I hate it so bad. Luckily in Alabama, it is rarely too cold to run outside, and when it is super hot I either run really early or really late.

Reply

Do you ever wear compression socks? Yes! Wore them today on my 6.5 mile run.
Love the retro ones…I want a pair too!

Reply

I just got the ones on the left and I LOVE them!! They are really going to pull together my neon outfit for the upcoming Portland to Coast relay.

Reply

The socks on the right are the best!

Reading this blog shows what a true inspiration you are!

I like the left, the yellow is really cute.

First off, you and your sister are beautiful! I have a younger sister and I’m so grateful to have her…sisters are the best :) Second, thank you for sharing the pie crust recipe! I bought a pie pan a year ago and have yet to make a pie, I’m slightly intimated with making a crust. However, your sister has inspired me! Thank you!

p.s .Rainbow bright socks on the right!

When you are used to running on ground, going to the treadmill sure feels weird. I prefer outdoor runs as well.

Reply

Haha I love the fun socks!

I don’t know who I am anymore. I spent all of last summer on the treadmill and this summer I haven’t done a single run on it. Now I even like running in the rain and got up and out to do a 14 miler with beautiful weather on Saturday and a 7 miler in chilly rain on Sunday. But I definitely would rather run outside than on the treamill, if only because the tv in front of them is broken and I can’t watch myself in a mirror for any amount of time…

Reply

Do you ever wear compression socks? I’ve never worn compression socks but I really want some! They seem so expensive! The ones on the left are the best. I haven’t ran on a treadmill in a long time but I’m about to get one. I really don’t mind treadmills. I think they are good for speed work. Btw, is that pink workout tank from Target? I have one just like it!

Reply

They’re both cute – ProCompression has the best designs!

Reply

The longest run I have done on a treadmill is 17 miles. It actually wasn’t as terrible as it sounds, but it definitely wasn’t fun!
