The last few days…

PS (that’s weird, I’ve never started a post with a PS) I am definitely going to keep blogging during this time (maybe not as frequently) but I love blogging and I want to keep doing the things I love to do and I really really like you guys.  Added bonus:  it gives me something to do when Brooke goes to sleep to keep my mind off of everything.

Thanks again for all of the support.  Every comment means the world to me.

——————————————-

Turns out that my body wasn’t really ready to run a 1:25 half-marathon this last Saturday (probably more of a 1:29).  My mind sure as heck was ready to run that time but my body not so much.  No injuries but just really sore so I have taken the last few days easy with just 5-6 miles at about an 8:45 pace…that pace feels like a 5 minute mile with these current quads of mine.

Sissy joined me (ps she isn’t flexing in this picture, she didn’t know I was taking it, those are just her normal ripped arms) and I want you to get to know her better because she is hilarious. Throughout our run if I say anything ridiculous that she doesn’t agree with she simply just sits on the ground and won’t move until I take back whatever silly thing I said.

The people that run past us during these times are rather confused about the situation.

Just to catch you up on the last few days.

We hit up 7 Peaks water park on Monday.

IMG 0289

Followed by a Cafe Rio and a Menchie’s date with my cousin (she even paid and opened my doors;).  Cafe Rio next to a froyo place?  Prayers answered.

IMG 0294

Rewind to Sunday:  Brooke has a little purse that she carries everywhere.

IMG 0265

And after dinner we ate brownies and ice cream.

IMG 0271

Speaking of ice cream, Brooke was a little possessive of the 1/2 gallon I picked up at the store today.

IMG 0323

And her favorite thing to do lately is to hold on to one of our hands and try to find Maggie (my parents’ dog).

IMG 0334

Nothing like a Utah sunset.

Just got back from vacation so running has been on a hiatus. Plan to get back in to it tomorrow! (working 14 hours today – boo).

I’m keeping up the prayers for you. Your family is such a supportive bunch and you are strong – you will get through this!

Reply

Thank you so much Jody! I hope your 14 hour shift goes really well today.

Reply

I’m glad you’re doing okay janae! Blogging helps me in more ways than one too. I think Brooke is taking free you with this loving sugar thing! After a really hard race it usually takes me a few days to bounce back to my normal runs. But if nothing else it showed you what your body is capable of and the rest will help you have a repeat occurrence of that. I have no doubt you will break 3:00 in your next marathon!

Reply

I’m just now finding out this news… my heart breaks for you and Brooke! Keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers. You’re right… you are a strong lady and will get through this! Hugs!

Reply

Thank you so much Kendra, I really appreciate that.

Brookes fishy outfit is soooo cute! I dont understand how you do anything else in the day other then kiss and hug her!

Reply

That is what I do all day ha! Thanks so much Danielle!

I would LOVE to have your “easy” pace! 8:54 haaaaa. I’m like a 10:00, but I get it done! I really don’t care how slow I am (anymore), I’m really into endurance and distance. You are a rock star!

You are so lucky to have such a wonderful family to support you during this very difficult time. I’ll be praying for you, Brooke, and Billy. You three made a beautiful family and I hope everything works out for the best – whatever that ends up being. Hang in there! And keep blogging – we (Yes, I’m speaking for all your readers!) love reading your posts!

Take Care.

I am glad you are going to continue to blog and focus on the positive. I’ll continue to tell you what a strong inspiring woman you are.

Anyways, I tried Menchies for the first time when I was in the west. It’s so good…we have Sweet Frog over in the East. As far as my life I’ve just been working and packing for my move.

I have to say I’m jealous of your ability to run such great speed work all the time. I could run base building miles all day but give me one mile at marathon pace I panic Lol! You can come pace me (could be an uptempo for you since my goal is 3:10.).

Have a great day Janae!

Reply

Ummmm Hollie you will CRUSH that 3:10 goal and I can’t wait to read all about it. Now come to the west again okay and hang out with me.

Reply

I ran yesterday with one of my staff members in my building (I’m an RA in a dorm) on a trail right by my new hall. He was a lot faster than me and pushed the pace but I survived!

Reply

I am glad you are going to keep blogging! It is great to see you still doing every thing you love! I go to the dr on Friday and am hoping to get the green light to start running again!! I have been power walking like it’s my job to get an hour on my legs every day in preparation for starting to run. I CANT WAIT.

Reply

I definitely did not run with my sister, she had a baby 3 days ago. While I was done visiting her my mom and I did find a local track and ran so we could go at our own paces. I did 6.1 miles.

Reply

Oh tell your sister congrats! I love that you and your mom went to the track together!

Reply

You really wanna know how my running has been this week? Yesterday I had the wonderful idea to have a peanut butter Clift bar before my hill repeats in Central Park. I guess I’m just like you and can’t really have peanut butter before a run… I was THIS CLOSE to dash behind a bush! Good thing Whole Foods wasn’t that far (bathrooms in the park were already closed)… and good thing I had black shorts on! You know, just in case… NEVER AGAIN! Hope I made you laugh a bit with my crappy (literally!) story ;) Sending you a super-big hug!

Reply

Thank goodness for Whole Foods…they saved you! You definitely did make me laugh, thank you for that!

Reply

Holy cow, Brooke’s fish outfit is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen!

The last person I ran with was my mom. I ran and she biked. Other than that, it was my dog. She counts, right?

Reply

The full body outfit picture was just for you:)

Reply

You’re the best!

I’m gradually increasing my mileage again, so I’ve been running 3-4 miles. It’s been going well.

On Saturday, I ran a 5k with my sister and my husband. That was exciting, especially since my sister is studying abroad this semester and I won’t see her again until Christmas!

I’m so amazed that you are handling this so well, especially with the internet! I’m glad people have been mostly supportive and uplifting- your never-ending positive attitude and smile definitely deserves unwavering support right now!

Reply

I know I don’t know exactly what you are going through but I’m in a similar situation (dealing with the sudden end of my marriage with a young daughter in my care) and I know we will both come out of this on top! Reading your blog has been one of the bright spots in my day for the last year and I find you incredibly inspiring and strong. You are in my daily thoughts and prayers and you’ve helped me smile more this past month and believe me, there was a time I thought I’d never smile again! Lean on your incredible family right now. You are so blessed to have them!

Reply

Jill, my heart aches for you. I am truly so sorry that you are also going through a divorce with a little young one. Your comment means a lot to me and thank you for your prayers. So good to hear that you are smiling again:)

Reply

Been thinking of you the last few days, sweet Janae! I don’t comment much but your positive attitude always inspires me. You are loved from all the way in sunny (way too hot) Florida!

Reply

Stay strong Janae, Brooke just keeps getting cuter!

Reply

That’s a great sister that holds you to believing Truth. Continuing to pray for you and your family!

Reply

Thank you Shannon. She really is a great sister!

Reply

You have such a beautiful family! They seem like an amazing support system. I admire your ability to keep that gorgeous smile on your face – you absolutely radiate positivity! Prayers from Nashville.

Reply

I’m glad you’re focusing on the things you love and bring you happiness. You’ll get through it with the help of your family- looks like you have the most amazing support system, and thats what counts. Sending good thoughts and love from Boston!!

Reply

<3 Glad to hear blogging gives you a positive outlet! I would go through Brooke withdrawals if I didn't get to see that sweet face! :)
I am enjoying the last week of summer before it's back to school with running and biking and SPINNING of course!

Reply

If I remember correctly, Miss. Brooke has a very very special day tomorrow?! :)

Reply

Menchie’s is so great! I went there when visiting a friend and wish we had one closer to home. I had the flavour “tart” and it was incredible.

I used to run with my sister once in awhile. We don’t live close enough. She’s actually the only person I can run with. I don’t like to run and talk, I find it too tough to breathe. But my sister is good at just running with me. Her bf ran the second half of my half marathon with me to help pace me and I am eternally grateful because every time I said “I hurt”, he said, “keep going”.

Take care of yourself. I have been through a similar situation and have since found happiness I didn’t even know was possible for me. I wish you all the best. xoxox

I’m glad you will still be blogging. I really look forward to reading your positive posts each day. You have really inspired me in so many ways. Also, I can’t imagine my life without Brooke in that fish outfit.

That last picture of Brooke is too much! Melts my heart.

Awwww I am so happy you guys have been having family time and how cute Brooke is with her purse!

I am thinking of you <3

I’ve been pretty proud of myself running 7 miles after work yesterday and Monday. Sometimes it’s really hard to find the motivation after work, but I’m always glad that I’ve done it. Love the pictures of little Brookers. She is a doll!

Reply

I used to run with my sister but alas, Honolulu is just too far :) If I can convince her to move back to CO one day, then maybe I’ll stand a chance!

Reply

running with my sister is one of my most favorite things but she moved to Dallas this summer so it won’t be happening as often. glad that you are with your family – they are such an amazing support! Brooke plus that ice cream…not sure if I’ve ever seen anything cuter!

Reply

Adorable! My 4 month old has that same fishie shirt. I love it!

Very happy you will still be blogging. You are a bright spot in my day. I usually read your blog about .5 seconds after logging onto my computer in the morning. Don’t tell my boss… ;)

You seem to be a very positive/happy/good person, and I truly believe you will come out on the other side of this even better and happier. God bless.

Reply

Also, I’m so jealous of your running abilities. I hired a running coach a few years ago, and after a month, he said, “You know, some people just aren’t runners!”. Two years ago I started doing C25K and it got me “running” enough to complete several 5k’s, at around 29-33 minutes each, but I was pretty happy with that! I really want to get back into running since I haven’t had a chance for almost a year due to a somewhat rough pregnancy and a new baby! I miss it, though! I run vicariously through you! :)

Reply

Ok, next time my running buddy says something ridiculous, I’m pulling a Janae sister on her and not moving until she takes it back! Your sister is a genius ;) I’m taking the rest of the week off (till Saturday) running, which I am not happy about, especially with my first marathon so close (31 days!!), but I think I’m developing plantar fasciitis in my left foot, so I’m trying to rest it for a few days and see if that helps. Fingers crossed it does, since I’m going to be going loony toons without my usual run tomorrow. Happy Wednesday, love!! Have some extra red velvet cake ice cream for me :)

Reply

I get to run with my sister and it’s the best thing ever! Without her I wouldn’t be doubled over in laughter, unable to move… She also laughs at my ridiculous jokes so that is the best friendship ever.

Stay strong in this difficult time – you sound like you have the best people around you. I was five when my parents divorced and cue to many many years later and I credit my success to my incredible support network of my mum, sisters and extended family. It will take time but you are an amazing person – the running and ice cream will help ;) (PS I haven’t even met you but know you are amazing – let me know if you ever need an Australian beach break – you could come and run with me and my sister! :)

Reply

Seeing that trail makes me miss running with my mom. We ran it all the time this summer. Running with the fam is one of the things I miss most about Utah. Now that you’re back you and your sister should start getting into trail running up in those mountains! I feel in love with it this summer. Let me know if you want recommendations of trails to do in the area :).

You just convinced me that Kate needs a purse :). How adorable!

And you definitely should keep blogging during all this. Many people (obviously) are cheering for you and I’m sure it’s a good outlet for you :).

Reply

Yes! Please continue to blog.

My daughter, now 28 (Gulp!) carried around what she called her “Chowch (church) purse” when she was about Brooke’s age for a loooong time :) My Mom and I still talk about that all the time. It was so cute.

I ran 6 miles this morning. The humidity broke and it is glorious here in PA! I wish I had a sister to run with.

My son’s GF was here visiting from Texas with me for the past 5 days so we’ve been doing lots of fun things like eating out (!), shopping, going to Hershey and just doing girl things. Sadly, I had to take her back to the airport yesterday. I miss her.

Hugs and Love to you, Janae!

You’re running on the canal right by my parents house. Homesick for you. 10 months and we can run together–and by that I mean you can run circles around me.

Reply

I am counting down the seconds until you get home.

Reply

I can’t remember the last person I ran with. I hardly ever have a running partner.

No running for me lately because of some hamstring problems. But I did do 50 miles on the bike the other day and felt great. I’m hoping my hamstring heals quickly because we’ve been having amazing weather here in NY and I want to run when it’s this nice out.

Oh and those photos of Brooke…gah! She’s just so incredibly cute.

Reply

Love the pics of Brooke :) She is precious!
I have had very sore hamstrings so i took yesterday off… but hoping to do a slow 8 miles today and I am very excited!
I get excited for all my runs lately… i have been mimicking your workouts! ((hope you don’t mind!)) I seriously copy all my speed workout and pace and whatnot based off of what you post on your recaps! I appreciate them so much!!

Reply

I’ve been biking on the exercise bike with my macbook in front of me watching TV shows. ;) Makes me think of you running on the treadmill while watching shows on your laptop or iPad, hehe.

As selfish as this may sound, I love reading you’re posts because they always make me smile and sometimes laugh. You are such a special person and Brooke and your family/friends are so lucky to have you in their lives. I wish we lived closer so we could meet! <3

:( Running has been bad. I feel like my old injury is creeping back! Ugh! So off my feet and calling my doctor. I’ve been injured for almost a whole year!
Brooke is adorable with her purse! Too cute.

I don’t know if my comment made it the other day, your site
had a lot of traffic! I just wanted to say that you and Brooke
will be ok. I’ve enjoyed reading your blog these last couple of years and I
appreciate your candidness. You make running so much fun.
Good luck, sending positive vibes.

So glad you have a wonderful outlet to channel your happy, positive feelings to distract you from such a terrible process. My divorce (when I was 26/27) was like doing mile repeats in 99% humidity, 100-degree heat. Without water. And it felt as if the repeats never ended. It sucked.

But, it will end. And you will emerge an even stronger woman. And and.. your life will be so much better! :) Many great wishes to you and the Brooke. (So sorry if this is a redundant comment.. been trying to comment for a couple of days, but nothing seems to go through)

Reply

This week I officially started training for my next half with the intention of PRing. On today’s schedule are hill repeats. I hate hills but I’m convinced I have to do them in order to PR.
I have the best running club and we usually rum 2-3 times a week together – otherwise I’m on a treadmill.
School starts in 12 days – so not ready for summer to be over!
Happy Birthday to Brooke tomorrow! I can’t believe it’s been a year!

Your sister sitting on runs makes me laugh so hard – I can imagine it makes you laugh as well! There’s a sushi place next to a froyo place around here – best thing ever!!!!

I can see how one’s body would be a little sore after such an amazing half marathon time! Take care of yourself and rest up! My inner thighs are very sore today (that’s what happens when you go to body pump for the first time in a while and you think you are awesome and lift heavy). I will be heading out with my work running buddies at lunch time for a 6 mile run. The weather here turned over night and there is no humidity and it is in the 70s. It is glorious!

Jenae,

I just caught up on the past three blogs and I’m just in shock! I’m so very sorry you are having this experience, I cannot imagine how much turmoil it much cause. I’m just shocked!

I do hope you blog as much as you can because I think you are hilarious. I laugh out loud every post because you are a talented comedic writer.

I was so inspirational my sister is doing her first 1/2 marathon in November with me. If I’m home and she’s home at our parents’ she’ll come out with me for a run but otherwise we live too far apart to run together and I refuse to become the nag who always asks if she’s following her training schedule.

Reply

Ive been running about 3 runs a week, just easy miles for now!

I’ve been working a lotttt but also ran with my friend last night at a local country park so thats the last person I ran with! I dont have a sister but Ive run with my brother before.

Reply

Ah, Utah sunsets. I have one left. We move tomorrow. Tomorrow! At this time tomorrow, I’ll be loading up the Smith’s cart with “thank you for helping us move” fuel and treats for the missionaries. (Any donut preferences for them?)

As a result we’ve spent the last few days getting in favorite hikes, driving to Powder Mountain, photographing, and spending time with family in the area (and those visiting).

We’ve made plans to do some cool stuff when we move (Bruneau Dunes SP chat, Paizano’s Pizza in Baker City, OR) and we’ve packed and cleaned.

Oh, I’ll run next with my sis at Thanksgiving. She’s in Michigan which is a bit far from Washington where we’re heading.

Reply

Just went back to catch up on what’s going on…I’m so sorry! A big huge hug to you. I know you ARE strong and you’ll make the best of a bad situation. Thinking of you.

Reply

Nothing is like a sister! No other friendship even compares!
Also brooks fish dress is ADORABLE! Ah she’s too cute!

Reply

Better safe than sorry with intense soreness :) We will see how my body feels today and I will decide my run based off of that. I am an “intuitive runner” (by which I mean, I try to follow a general schedule but end up doing exactly what feels right each day.)

I am so glad that you have your family close at this time :) Sisters are wonderful, such a blessing. And I am sure daughters are as well! And we (readers) love reading your blog (obviously) and I hope it can keep being a positive outlet for you, but I want to reiterate what I am sure you already know: if you need days off from blogging, we will be here with virtual hugs and support when you are back :)

Reply

I’m glad you’re going to continue blogging ;). I haven’t ran in a while and I’m feeling very frustrated. I’m having some hip flexor problems, but I’m almost at the point where I just need to run a little bit to feel better, but feel like if I just wait, I probably am doing the right thing for my hip flexor. It’s rather frustrating!!!

Reply

Running with my sister and/or my mom is my favorite. I am super serious about running, my sister – not so much. She makes me laugh, so I count runs with her as ab work too :) I helped her finish her first marathon (which she did not train properly for) after a really tough time in her life. I have run fast marathons, Boston 4 times, but that is one of my favorite running memories ever – helping her cross her first marathon finish line. There were tears in my eyes. The funny part though, in the finish line pic, she looks like she is dying, and I am smiling laughing and running backwards to hug her.

BROOKE’S OUTFIT! Dying of cuteness overload.

I got to run two five-mile runs over the weekend with my 72-year-old father-in-law. He is an inspiration!

Reply

haven’t been running too much lately. When i do, my running partner is usually my boyfriend! but he’s super speedy and when he runs with me it’s like he is walking. so i feel like i’m dying to keep up and he’s leisurely jogging… it’s not fair! :)

keeping you and brooke in my thoughts. you have the BEST positive outlook on life and I know that will help you get through this!!

Whilst I haven’t been in the same situation as you, I am also going through a difficult time in my life too (bad anxiety). I took a break from blogging but now I have come back to it and I’m feeling much better. Take all the time you need to heal and do what you love the most as it will make you happy. You and Brooke are in my thoughts every day, all the way from Melbourne, Australia.

This week I have started my half marathon training. It has been hard as the weather in Australia has been crazy – wind and rain! I have done a treadmill run and one outside. I normally always run by myself, however at my last 5km fun run I got to run the first 3km with one of my good friends, which was good as he got me into a good pace. And then I ran off on him! lol!

Reply

I did sprints today. Heck, I don’t even know who I ran with last. lol It’s been awhile since I’ve had a running buddy.

Your sister is very pretty. I wanna go to a water park. I’m jealous!

Happy Birthday Eve to Brooke!!

I did 5 fast (I think, Garmin needed to be plugged in) miles this morning. I’ll be doing a ChaLEAN Extreme workout tonight. I’ve only ran with a sister once. It was when I was visiting her in NYC last month. It was stinking hot then! Glad you are still blogging. I blog during naptime, too.

Stop Brooke from growing up so fast!! She is so close to walking on her own. It is so adorable that she walks around looking for Maggie! Love her and you and your blog!

The person I have been running with most lately is a complete inspiration to me! He had a heart attack at age 45 and now only has half of a functioning heart! He doesn’t make excuses, he just goes out there and runs. He checks in frequently with his doctor and wears a heart rate monitor to ensure he doesn’t over do it but continues to be active. I can only hope to have that kind of motivation in the future!

Your sister obviously has your same hilarious sense if humor. All is great when we can find stuff to laugh at every day. This weekend (on my birthday) we ran seven very hilly miles on trails through the woods at our nearby park. My son, who is always speedier than we are, ran ahead and had random hikers wish me a happy birthday as we passed them on the trails. So fun! Nothing like strangers shouting Happy Birthday and clapping to make the run more energizing. Enjoy your day and happy birthday to adorable little Brooke!

Brooke’s little outfit with the fish- too adorable! Happy almost birthday, Brookers!

I ran Tuesday, only went 2 miles, but I went all out on those 2 miles! Aw, I just love Brooke :) She is so darn cute, I’ve never found a kid so cute until you had her. I wish I had a sister to run with, I have a brother. Tried a long time ago to get him to run with me, I also gave up that day too lol.

I usually have to run solo – my 15 year old son is on the Cross Country team at high school but he is too fast for me – plus he’s 6’5″ so when he tries to slow it down to be nice his stride is just awkward!

I just started training for a 15k in early November – I ran a 10-miler back in May but then I basically slacked off for the whole summer so I need to start from scratch, apparently. :(

Is Brooke full-on walking now? She is TOO adorable – Happy 1st Birthday to her tomorrow!

Reply

Your sister sounds like a very smart girl (with very ripped arms!), so you better listen to her and stop saying those silly things!

Reply

I am so happy we are going to get to know your sister better! I have been so jealous of the relationship you guys have :) I don’t have a sister but at least I have some awesome girl friends who are like sisters…?

I ran a super hilly 14 miles Saturday and have been cross training since then…the weather here is a high of 70 today (yahoo!!) so I think I will have to get a run in after work.

Have a great day, Janae! As always, your nieces/nephews and Brooke are the cutest!!

Your sister sounds amazing! And I have to say, Curly looks so grown up with her not-so-curly hair. But the curly look is absolutely adorable and I hope it doesn’t go away completely. :)

I love that your ‘taking it easy’ distance & pace is my ‘long run’ distance & faster than I can actually run for longer than 0.5 miles haha!

P.S. Here’s my own ps, I’m sorry to hear your news. I’ve often thought about you over the last couple of days. Stay strong :)

I don’t think I have ever answered your list of questions before, but I just feel like it now. I want your blog to be filled with comments and love and support.

Running has been almost non-existent. We are trying to get pregnant so I’ve been using that as an excuse to be lazy. Ran a quick 2 miles last night that reminded me of how much I love running. Thinking about you while I ran too… Today I’m gonna go for 5 with the jogging stroller.

I do get to run with my sister, so fun. That’s why I need to make a sister for my daughter so she can have the same!

I adore that pic of Brooke placing her hand on the ice cream, just awesome.

Thank you so much Heather for commenting. Sister running is the best and I hope your little one gets a sister soon:)

Hi Janae, i have read you for ages but never commented. Just so you know, I am in Australia, and you infulence me everyday to try better ( I am not a natural runner , and i kinda hate it, but i try so hard). Anyway, i was so shocked to here your news, you guys always seemed so happy. Made me worry for my marriage if a gorgeous couple like you struggles. Anyway, sending you love and light from Melbourne Aus, have a great day with Brooke tomorrow. Lynnie

I am always so amazed by your positive attitude. That truly will be what gets you through this hard time (that, and your amazing family and friends :)

My running this week has been… rough. I am just exhausted lately and I think my body is trying to tell me something. I am just trying to make it through this week and look forward to a low-mileage week next week. Thank goodness I will have the company of a few gals from my running group for my 15-mile long run this weekend, or I might not make it!

Reply

Welll, I’m cutting back on running starting this week because I have not had a lady cycle in way longer than I care to admit. It’s gonna feel weird running just a few days a week for only a few miles but I’ve gotta get my bod back to normal!

I still cant get over how much you rocked your half marathon!! Brooke is soo adorable in that fishy outfit! I rarely run with people, but its ok because its hard for me to run and talk.

<3 that you are still blogging! Yay!

O.m.g., Brooke's legs are SO cute… those little rolls. ;)

I tried to run 11 on Monday but my pants… they ripped a seam… so 2 was all I got. Yesterday, though, I ran a fast (for me) 6 miles and now I’m really looking forward to the 10k I have scheduled at the end of September! I wanna smash my 10k PR. I’m moving right into race season… Half marathon Sept. 1, 10k Sept. 28, 5k October 6, my FIRST FULL marathon on Nov. 2!

Keep your head up… I know it’s been said but I read your blog every day and you always bring a smile to my face. You and Brooke are in my prayers!

Laughing at your sis–that’s hilarious. I’m still trying to get my sister into running…there’s a 5k santa run in our area in a few months that I’m trying so hard to persuade her to run with me. She’s a wicked tennis player, but she doesn’t like running…at all. Menchie’s is HEAVEN. Seriously one of my favorite places ever. (And yes, I do own a Smileage Card.)

Reply

My run today is likely to be very wet as SC is forecast for rain and thunderstorms for the rest of the week. It’ll be good to keep cool tho (the bright side).

Sorry to hear that you are having such a tough time right now. My only bit of advise is to keep going…with everything eventually you will feel better. You have such a beautiful little girl and you seem like a really nice person. You inspire all of us that read you blog….wishing you the best for the next few weeks and months!

Reply

I run with my sister too whenever I can and it is the BEST! So glad she is helping you through this difficult period.
My 4-year-old daughter saw Brooke and Curly at the water park and wants to go there with them :) She loves looking at Brooke’s pictures. Your daughter is truly a ray of sunshine.

Reply

Hope you’re ok. Froyo helps make everything better! I ran on sunday with one of my uni friends for the first time, we ran a great 5 miles to brunch with friends. I’ve gone from a solo runner to a ‘love running with everyone’ kind of runner!

Reply

I run with my mom!! We’re both planning on running our first race EVER together next summer- a half marathon- so we’re training together so we can conquer this together too (:

Reply

OMG I have been dying to try that red velvet cake ice cream… No wonder Brooke was possessive over it! :) Please tell me it is heaven in a bowl?! YUM.

I love that your sis stops running when you say something she doesn’t like to hear. We all need that sometimes, I think!! You have such an amazing family!

My last running buddy was my hubby. Lately he has been the biggest motivation for me! Have a GREAT day, Janae!

Reply

In the last few days, I’ve been up to being a new mommy! Adjusting to this new schedule of naps not full nights of sleep :)

So many good questions! But first, I have to comment on the photo where Brooke is standing. Oh my gosh- that face, those eyes, the outfit, those legs! She is just too adorable and you are a great mom! I don’t comment often, but I read your blog daily and I think you are handling these circumstances with such maturity and grace. I’m thinking about you and your family!
Running this week has not been my best :(. Can’t seem to get into my running groove. But I’m training for a half coming up so hopefully my long run this weekend will be a good one. My sister is one of my bestest friends and we live super close to each other, but we don’t run together (totally different paces/styles). We do rock climb and hike together, though! I run with my best friend/roommate and I love it. It makes the time go by faster and we get to catch up on life on our 6am run dates during the week :).

Reply

I ran with my dad yesterday morning! Lately I have been relishing in the August sunsets in the midwest. That picture in Utah looks beautiful! Also, Brooke is too cute! That picture of her with the ice cream in the grocery cart is precious!

Reply

Running has been a little slow this week but I’m gearing up for a 5K this Saturday.
I’m visiting my parents this week so I’ve been able to run with all of my “hometown friends” and it has been wonderful. Having a running partner makes a difference!

Happy early birthday to Brooke!

Reply

Awe Brooke is going to be a year old! I’ve been really working hard on my running the last couple days. I was in a kind of funk for two weeks and it was time to stop feeling sorry for myself and break out of it.
I’m glad to see that you are doing okay!

Reply

Oh my dear Janae….I have been so busy the last few weeks, just got a chance to sit down and catch up on reading your blog…
I am so sorry for what you are going through, 13 years ago I filed for divorce & had 3 young daughters depending on me….it was also the hardest time in my life. I feel for you, my heart is breaking for you…it’s crazy how I have never met you, but reading all of these posts just brought me to tears. Life can be so incredibly hard sometimes….thinking of you, love & prayers <3

Reply

Your sister sounds hilarious! I wish my sister would run with me. Can’t get her started though…

I just wanted to say I think you’re handling your online presence during this time with such grace. I’ve been thinking of you over the past few days, I even dedicated my run to you yesterday. It helped me get through some tough hills here in central MA.

Reply

So glad you have such AMAZING family to be with you during this time!

Also, Curly’s hair isn’t curly anymore!!! My world is being turned upside down!

xoxoxoxo <3

That pic of Brooke with the ice cream is hilarious!! And that little devious grin on her face, it’s as if she’s saying “MINE!” Ha! Your sis is hilarious and now I want brownies with ice cream:)

I ran 7 slow miles last night but the weather has been so gorgeous out so I didn’t even care they were slow. Cool, dry, sunny…probably how it is every day in Cali ha.

HAPPY ALMOST BIRTHDAY TO BROOKE!

Reply

Last person I ran with was an 18 miler with my friend Heather on Sunday, tonight I am supposed to do a 9 mile tempo run!

Love the photos of Brooke, super cute she already knows how to guard ice cream with her life…and search the house for the dog :) A girl after my own heart, puppies and ice cream!

Reply

I am jealous of Curly’s bathing suit, Brooke’s fishie outfit, and most of all, that you have a sister. I have two brothers and they are very different from me. I always asked my parents for a sister! No such luck.

Reply

Running has been good so far this week (hopefully I didn’t just jinx myself). I have a pretty hard speed workout today to get me prepped or a 10k I am going to run this weekend. I am little nervous but I always get that way before running hard workouts for some reason. Still praying for you and your family!

Reply

I’m so glad you’re going to keep blogging – as so many people have already said, I look forward to your posts every day – they’re such an inspiration, and you know your day is going to instantly get better when there’s a cute picture of Brooke!

I’ve only run 1 day so far this week, but just got back from vacation, so it was well worth it! If I can talk my boyfriend into running with me, I will run with him, otherwise its usually solo!

Reply

Thanks so much Christine. I hope that you get a run in with your bf soon!

Reply

Today’s run will be W5D3 of the Couch to 5K program. Still building endurance on my ankle!

This last week has been spent trying to get my girls ready for school tomorrow. They were not happy about going to be early last night or getting up early today. Ha!

No sisters for me. All brothers. Yikes. The last person I ran with was my oldest daughter, OMG Becky. I tried to talk both girls into a run this morning, but they were not interested. Mean girls.

Reply

Love those pics of Brooke…she is so adorable!! All of my friends have baby boys…but girls really have the cuter outfit options!! :) Thanks for sharing….and we are all so grateful you will continue to blog. We love you!!
You are lucky you get to run with your sister- she seems like an amazing person! I ran with my running group on Sat. and today I am planning to run a couple miles myself this morning to test the foot, and then later tonight with the group again. My running week is improving now that my foot has stopped hurting.
P.S. I just got my first pair of pure flows…love <3

Reply

Enjoy the pure flows..they are the best. Girl clothes are way cuter. I am so glad your feet feel better!

Reply

Easy 8:45 pace..Gosh I wish I could run like you! haha. Easy pace for me is like 11:00 ;-)

Reply

No one ever wants to hear “things happen for a reason” when going through something so difficult, but whatever happened and happens between you and Billy, look at the amazingly, beautiful daughter you brought into this world. It makes me so happy when I see all those beautiful pics you post of her. She is a gift from God, and you have clearly turned into such a beautiful, wonderful, caring mother. She is lucky to have you. God has big plans for you, and I know you will come out of this even stronger than you already are.

Hope your legs recover soon! As for running with my sister…I think the longest I’ve ran with her is 15 feet when she was cheering me on during a marathon and ran after me. haha. She despises running.

Reply

Julia, I think that you are so right and your comment was just what I needed to read.

Reply

Brooke’s surprised face is HILARIOUS! She looks just like you. And I die laughing every time we get to see another pic of your sister’s dramatic running episodes. The time she laid down on the middle of the sidewalk seriously cracked me up.

Today is an easy crossing training day for me! Yesterday was a nice 6 mile treadmill run because it was 100 degrees out…AGAIN. Coming off a little IT band tightness so I’m taking my running “off days” very seriously ;)

Reply

Mmm, Mexican and Froyo, I’d be there every day!

Reply

So glad to see that you updated today! I’ve been thinking of you!

Brooke actually looks cuter every time I see her, and I’m really not a baby person. I can’t believe that she is going to be ONE!

Good for you for taking a rest after your race. I can’t imagine NOT being sore after running as speedily as you did! Love that your sissy refuses to move when you say something silly. She sounds like a GREAT sister. I’m an only child, and reading things like this makes me wish I had a sister.

Have a good day, love!

Reply

I don’t think it is possible for brooke to be any cuter! That outfit, her eyes, those leg rolls…it is just too much.

I am glad you are still blogging, but on your own terms. Reading it is always a bright spot in my day. So is learning which new treats I need to go get & I NEED that ice cream in my life.

I like that sister of yours. She is a genius. Neither of my sisters run. They occasionally start up every now and again, but it never lasts long. I do everything else I can with them though. Sisters really are the best. I used to run with my dad back in college. We were the same pace so it was nice:) No running yet for me this week. Just been hanging out with the step mill and the elliptical. Sigh. So run extra for me today! Or eat extra ice cream. You choose ;)

Reply

You and my sis are going to get along really well together. I NEED that leg of yours to heal!

Haha I love what your sister does on your runs! I’m so glad you and Brooke have such a great family to support you and love on you during this time. That little Brooke is too cute for words!

Hi Janae! If blogging and reading comments helps you than I most certainly am going to try to help and start commenting more regularly to give you something to read :)

I totally don’t run so let me move on to what I’ve been up to the past few days.

I’m currently in between having just finished graduate school earlier this month and interviewing for jobs. I’m in love with the leisure time that I’ve had; sleeping in, watching tv all day (the most embarrassing part is that I have a line-up I stick to every day, it used to be The Hills from 9-12, but Mtv took that off so now I’m desperate for some other kind of morning program, yes I’m sarcastic, then some TLC and Grey’s Anatomy in the afternoon).

I’ve also been completely hooked on reading the Game of Thrones books after I rented the first season of the show from my library. So I spend pretty much every waking moment with that book near me so I can pick it up and read. Alas, I finished the second one last night and have to wait until Saturday for the next one to ship from Amazon!

I’ve actually been waiting for today for quite some time… I find out if I’m going to be offered a job that I’ve been interviewing for a children’s hospital here close to where I live, but I also have a phone interview for another children’s hospital on the East side which I’m very excited about. So I’m off to prepare for that!

Take care and I hope you get the chance to enjoy some leisure time of your own! :)

Reply

Your comment helped so thank you. I am so happy that you have had some great leisure time…oh the Hills, I need to get back in to that show. Hope you are having a great day and good luck with the job hunt!

Reply

I’m so happy that you are going to keep blogging. Like others have said, don’t feel compelled to put on a happy face just for us readers. We love you for you and if you need to take time here and there and/or use this space to go “THIS DAY SUCKS!”– we’d understand. You’re a strong girl and we’re all thinking of you!

Also, “Creeper Alert!”: I just heard a song called (I think) “Wake Me Up” by Aviici and listening to its lyrics, I immediately thought of you. Great lyrics and a great running song.

Reply

Thank you Allee, I can’t wait to look up the song. You are so sweet…thanks for your comment!

Reply

Ha, your sister cracks me up! My 5-year old does the same thing. Unfortunately for him though, I can just pick him up and continue when he’s being stubborn. I imagine your sister learned this from one of her kiddos; we only learn from the best, right?!

On a more serious note, I can tell you’ve been hurt deeply and are probably feeling violated, insecure, not good enough… but just look around. You ARE loved by so many and we all love, respect, and adore you. Keep your head up because you will come out of this. You have your own fan club and we’re all rooting for ya!

P.S. I wish I had Brooke’s tan. And, I wish my chubby legs were as cute as hers. And, I wish I had her clothes :)

Reply

HAHAHA I can’t wait to tell my sis that your son does the same thing. THank you for your sweet words….I can’t thank you enough!

Reply

I agree with you, I think it is important to continue to do the things that you love to do and that bring you happiness! I pray that you will find some comfort and tons of support through blogging and that God will give you strength and peace in this time :).
I have been getting ready for school with my kids and unpacking from our camping trip. My runs have been easy since I have been recouping from a stomach bug.
Have a great day!

Reply

Love your blog~and your outlook. I echo a lot of commentors/readers when I say that your blog has been a bright spot in my day for a long time. I have been thinking about you a lot over the past few days. I have been taking a running break. Having some issue with my knee and trying to rest. It is hard though, I really miss my runs! Trying not to start back before my body is ready but my mind is telling me to go. Sending you peace and strength, Janae.

Reply

Thank you so much Kandace. I hope that your knee gets feeling better ASAP…we need running!

Reply

Cafe Rio next to Menchie’s?! Seriously could there be a better combination?! Love it.

I had a great speed work out yesterday and I did some strength today.

Love Brooke’s face as she protects the ice cream haha She’s such a cutie.

PS, I think you’re amazing. xoxo

I’m so glad you’re doing ok. Just hang in there. You have such an amazing & supportive family. You’re an inspiration to everyone. Not just with running. Your positive attitude in your blog has cheered me up on some tough days… months. God is watching over you so just remember he doesn’t give you anything you aren’t strong enough to handle.

Reply

Wow, thank you so much Meredith. This means a lot to me.

I’m just getting over some knee injuries but I’m able to start getting back into running slowly but surely!!! Also,
You are such a beautiful, caring, thoughtful person and are incredibly strong and I’m very sorry to hear about what you’re going through. My thoughts and prayers are with you and just try to hold onto what’s positive!

Reply

I am so glad that your able to come back from your injury. Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers, I can feel them working:)

Brooke looks SO mischevious in that ice cream picture. Cutie. Have a great day Janae! Thinking of you!

Reply

Finally able to get through… wanted to give you my hugs & prayers as you are transitioning to a new life… which I know you are doing surrounded by love… so no worries – you & Brook are going to be awesome! As usual!

Reply

Do they make Brooke’s pink, teal & blue dress in adult sizes? She is so adorable! Glad you’re taking it easy after your rockin’ half marathon last weekend. I’m dialing back at bit this week too. I’m following a high intensity marathon plan, and my body was screaming uncle. So I swapped today’s tempo run for a laid back trail run.

Reply

On Sunday I went for my first long-distance run in a few months and managed to pound out 5 miles – I was definitely impressed with myself! I’m crediting Saturday’s fish tacos and froyo ;-)

Reply

Just wanted to say that you are amazing! I don’t have any good advice but I always love reading your blog and hearing about your amazing runs. You inspire me to go faster (nowhere near your pace!) as I train for my first full.

Also, Brooke is insanely cute. I don’t even want kids and I just die every time I see a pic of her. She clearly gets her happy-go-lucky attitude from you!

We’re all rooting for you, girl.

Reply

Allie, thank you so much for commenting. You are going to rock your first marathon. You are right, Brooke is the cutest:)

Reply

Haha- live your sister’s tactic!

Enjoyed a 11km run yesterday- strong finish and longest run since last weeks half- but don’t think my oct marathon is achievable anymore…!

Reply

I am so glad you have your sister to run with and you two can be reunited again. I am also very close to my sister and we used to run together but she’s in AZ and I’m in UT :( Hopefully, bangs friend can sign up for a half marathon in Utah and come visit you :) !!

Reply

She is planning to come visit soon! We should hang out in Utah:)

Reply

I’ve always wanted to try that red velvet ice cream!! How is it??

Also, Brooke just keeps getting cuter and cuter!

Reply

I don’t think my comment survived your busy blog earlier this week, and while I can’t remember what I initially wrote, please know that like many of your readers who don’t know you in person, I find you to be inspiring, uplifting, and true to yourself. I’m grateful that you have the support and love of your family and friends (near and far, internet and real life) as you go through this journey. Praying for strength for you, and healing for your heart!

My running this week has been good so far. Tested out new speed shoes on the treadmill Monday night after spin (still not convinced they’re the right pair for me, so they may be going back to the store) and ran an easy 6 with a local running group yesterday morning. They all laughed at me running in my headlamp, but it’s DARK here at 5am, and they all quit laughing when I helped everyone avoid crashing into a fallen branch ;-) The rest of the week will just be short, easy runs since I’m doing a trail half this Saturday. It’s going to be SO VERY HOT AND HUMID (I live in the Deep South), but it will be a blast out there running with my good buddy (we’re not running for a time goal, just to goof off and have fun while getting some longer miles in as we amp up to start our official marathon training this month).

Take good care of yourself Janae, you deserve it. Sending out a big hug!

Reply

Thank you so much Denise, you really are the sweetest. Thank you for your prayers. So awesome that you running has been great this week…yay for new speed shoes! Good luck in your half this weekend, you are going to rock it!

Reply

I cannot wait to watch you run in Bethlehem! This week I ran 2 miles and I just am so thankful for every step I am allowed to take at this point. I am determined to be a runner again and make a comeback stronger than ever. I wish I could run with someone in my family but no one likes to run as much as I do :( I need a running buddy besides Elmo because his little legs can only do so much!!!

Reply

I just dropped by (interwebz speak) and got updated. It’s so wonderful to see that you’re supported by your family and your “virtual” family alike. You’re definitely in my thoughts these days.

Also, congrats on the PR and keep on keeping on.

We have unseasonably cool weather here in the midwest right now, so I’m slating a few miles in the evening. I haven’t run with anyone in particular in a long while, but I do have a 10k this weekend, that I’m hoping to enjoy with my dad and brother. We shall see. Happy Hump Day!

Reply

Ok so you are human and can run a pace that is closer to mine (though still faster)…

I have been doing quarter squats the past few days, which is huge since I just got off crutches.

Take care and sending hugs from CO :)

Reply

Love your sister. I can’t run anymore (no cartilage) but come back to soak in your positive outlook. I wish you nothing but peace for your mind and recovery for your heart and legs.

Reply

I am truly so sorry that you can’t run anymore, that breaks my heart!

Oh girl, thank you. I love swimming and biking, so no worries. I read a few running blogs because I appreciate the dedication and commitment. Plus I’m a challenge junkie and love to see people meeting personal bests. Hugs to you.

Brooke’s little leg rolls and her fish outfit may be the cutest thing ever! Hope you have a day filled with running, Brooke and fro yo :)

Hi Janae!

I am also a long time reader who has never commented but I wanted to send love and encouragement to help you through this tough time. Like the many other followers of your blog, I find you incredibly inspiring and motivational. Just this morning I went on a 7 miler that started super sluggish- but then I started thinking of your amazing Half Marathon win and encouragement to always dream big- and it made me daydream about winning my own Half Marathon someday, which allowed me to push harder and train faster. (I ended up running sub 8:00 min/mi’s, which is a big deal for me right now! hehe) Reading your blog has also inspired me to finally let go of having a number on the scale dictate how I feel in the mornings.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that you’re great! Your sense of humor and ability to savor the small moments in life (that face Brooke made! this amazing cookie! this. Utah. sunset!) brings joy to so many readers. This is an incredibly difficult time, but like any segment of a hard run, this too will pass!

Love you lots,
Anne

Reply

Anne, thank you so so much for your sweet comment. I appreciate you so much. DANG WOMAN, you are fast! I am so happy you got rid of the scale. Have a great day and thank you Anne!

Reply

Love you girl!!! Stay strong, pray, and you will make it through this! I will keep you at the forefront of all my prayers and look forward to watching you grow (and Brooke too!) during this difficult time. You are a pillar of strength and you have a strong group of readers, friends, and family standing 100% by your side. Thanks for always keeping me smiling with your posts and better times are ahead for you!!! xoxoxoxoxoxo.

Your sister is awesome. I think I’m gonna use that tactic the next time someone says something silly to me. I would’ve loved to have been a runner on that trail.

I did a four mile run Monday at 10:00/mile, three mile yesterday at 9:13/mile, and today will be another four miles at ?/mile. Modest by your standards but I’m excited because my pace was faster yesterday than ever before.

Reply

Hi Janae,
I have read every. single. entry of your blog but I rarely comment… I do need to stop now and say “Thank YOU!” for continuing to blog….. it brightens my my days. Your spirit just shines right through the screen. Sometimes, well MOST of the times, your pictures of Brooke stop me dead in my tracks and I just sit here and gaze at her and smile.

Thank you for sharing “you” with us, and know that you and your family are in my prayers.

Ps- Candy corn is out in the stores now! You can bring back the peanut and candy corn combo!

Reply

Thank you so much Missy. Time for me to go to Target to get my candy corn:) You have the best memory.

Reply

You’re the best Janae. So many hugs sent your way.

I love your pictures of Provo. It is such a flashback to going to school down there (that Cafe Rio and I were bffs). You’ve got to let me take you out to my favorite hole in the wall pizza joint down there sometime!

I’m in peak week for marathon training for St. George. I’m tired and my running is reflecting that! Much needed rest day today. I have to work early this Saturday so I’m going to try and fit my 22 mile run in before work tomorrow. I’m sleepy already!

I run alone 99% of the time unless I’m visiting my dad. My sister runs, but I don’t get to see her much. We talk about running all the time though!

Reply

I just started reading your blog a few weeks ago, and fell in love instantly! I enjoyed reading past posts on how you ran all through your pregnancy, and your amazing attitude toward becoming a mom during those tough newborn days. I admire you so much!

I never comment on blogs, mostly because I don’t have one, but since you said you enjoy reading the comments, here ya go! I run during my lunch hour. I have a 3.2 mile route and a 4.5 mile route. Monday I did 4.5 miles, yesterday was 3.2 miles+core, today will be one of those but I usually decide when I’m out there :) I found your blog because I would like to train for longer distances and didn’t really know how. Another reason I love reading your blog, I need help mixing it up!

I ran with my friend from work yesterday! We have a whole group of people who run during lunch. Sometimes we have a group of 6 people! We usually start out together, and then separate depending on how we feel that day and our individual speeds.

I think it’s awesome how many people love you, and it’s obvious why they do!

Reply

Thank you so much for commenting. That is so awesome that you get to work out during your lunch break. So fun that you have people from work that you get to run with. Thanks so much Jill!

Reply

So sorry you have to go through this. It made me so sad when I read it the other day. But hearing you will continue to blog completely changed that. You are such an amazing person and I look forward to reading your blog every morning (first thing I do when I get to work). You brighten my day. It sounds/looks like you have quite an awesome support system-between your family and all your followers. I look forward to continue following your running and food adventures, and Brooke too of course, such a cutie. Keep smiling and know that you are in our thoughts and prayers!

Thank you so much!

Oh how I would love to join you and sissy on a run…sounds entertaining! Brookster is so blasted cute. I hope you are doing okay, this too shall pass! I think you are a great gal and hope for nothing but the best for you and Brooke. Have a great day :)

Got my second run in back from injury. Went out last night during dusk. I was watching it out of the corner of my eye setting over the western mountain, and came home at sunset. I tried to control my legs but they wanted to fly. I got in 3 miles and it felt glorious.

I have been painting quite a bit. Animal portraits and my day of the dead work. It’s another form of peace for me.

I only ran once with one of my sisters, and that was the 1/2 marathon up in Humbdolt County through the Avenue of the Giants. It was fun being able to converse and push her through the race.

<3 to you.

I’ve recently become addicted to reading your blog. I came across it about a month ago accidentally when I was considering setting up my own running blog, just to motivate myself and hold myself accountable for my workouts. You have become such a source of motivation and inspiration that I look forward to my email every single day with your latest post. I feel like I have gotten to know you and my heart goes out to you during these times. It takes a strong person to move forward and to do it with such positivity. You are a great role model to your daughter. You deserve nothing but the best! I’ll keep you and Brooke in my thoughts.

The last couple of my runs have been BEAUTIFUL. I was staying at the cottage and I got to run around the lake. It’s amazing. Also good for you for taking it easy and not forcing anything!! Just try to fill your mind with good thoughts :)

Reply

I don’t have a sister, but I do get to run with my best friend two times a week! The last person I ran with was a client yesterday. I took her out on a tempo run and she loved it!

We just got home from the beach and I ran every day that we were there, so after eight days straight of running I’m taking today off. It’s only 70 degrees and gorgeous, so I think I’ll go for a walk!

Reply

Hi janae,
I’m so glad you get to do the things you love, its so important. I wish I had a sister like yours I could run with, mine hates running! I used to sometimes run with my husband but he is injured and on the sidelines. I really need to join a running group to meet more runners, I’m just afraid cause I’m shy! :-)

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I just caught up on your blog and I am so sorry you are going through such a painful time. I am inspired as much by your commitment to running as I am your positive spirit. Hang in there and my thoughts and prayers are with you.
