Who wrote the rule book?

Before we go any farther I am going to ask you to stop thinking I am weird for putting grapes in my cereal.  Who wrote the rule book and said that it is only okay to put fruit like bananas/strawberries/blueberries in your cereal?  Grapes and cut up nectarine are just splendid in there.

However, it is weird that I ate two grape stems and didn’t even notice until I was looking at this picture.

While we are on the subject of produce, I got the biggest smile on my face when I saw that the red peppers were 3 for a dollar at the store.  They are delicious and I have been eating them like apples.  Strange or normal how happy this kind of stuff makes me?

This week of running is going to be a little bit easier and then I will build back up next week.  I had an 8 mile run for today with the mile splits of:  8:23, 8:23, 7:54, 7:30, 7:23, 7:23, 7:19 and 6:48 average pace of 7:40.   I felt every single dead lift that I did on Saturday during my run but other than that it just felt so nice to be out on the roads running.  That is until I passed my new favorite restaurant Baja Fresh and REALLY wanted to go in for their salsa bar.  They were closed.  Rude.

My picture taking skills get better with every post.

Came home did the abs/stretching thing while watching Extreme Makeover: Weight loss Edition until Brooke woke up…that is when the party starts!

Brooke’s favorite toys are the electronics in the entertainment center so I just keep a blockade there at all times.

Just picked up my mom and now we are going to San Francisco for bread bowls and ghirardelli.

My mum lives in the UK and I live in California. That’s the worst thing about living here…but she lands in 34 sleeps, so I can handle it!!

I resolved at the weekend to do more abs so I can run in a sports bra. I have yet to start work on my resolution although I did buy a new sports bra ;)

Reply

I have not done abs in a verrry long time! I am looking forward to running tomorrow, let’s hope I manage to get up early enough to run before dying from the heat! And my mom lives about 20 minutes away! :) I’m very lucky!

Reply

I didn’t run today… Just did a strength workout and plan to go on a family walk later when my hubby gets home!

Yay for moms visiting! My mom lives in AZ (and I’m in UT), so I totally understand your excitement when they come to visit. Have so much fun!

I am looking forward to a charity run I’m doing with my colleagues this week! There’s a lot of (friendly) competition and I’m hoping I’ll beat the boys ;)

My mum lives in the South of England. It’s about a 7 hour drive but it’s much closer than when I was living in Sydney.

Have fun with your mum :)

I’ve never tried grapes on my cereal before, but I have no doubt they are fantastic! I NEVER eat cereal anymore without some type of fruit on it! :) Not really running much this week–recovering from injury, but looking forward to next Saturday when I will be pacing my friend at the Vermont 100 Mile Race!

Have fun with your mom!!! <3

My mom only lives 15min away and I love it! I am terrible at planks.

My mom lives in South Lyon, MI…. The same town as that married couple on Extreme Makeover: weight loss edition!!! I watched that show on demand a few days ago and had to text my mom the whole time trying to figure out where they lived. Creepy, but true.

Have a great dinner with your mom and Brooke!!

I just discovered that grapes inflame my stomach and I can’t eat them right now. Cereal and grapes would be a strange but good combination. I think I might take a trip to California to go to the giardhelli place.

Reply

I love planks! I did plank repeats on the day Susanna was born because I was bored. I challenged my OB to a plank off, too. He declined.

My mom lives in NoVa. It’s cool, and I’m thrilled that my hub’s “second mom” aka his older sister is coming to visit us in 5 weeks. She’s the best person around and will be a HUGE help when we load up the moving van and head to the PNW.

Glad you get to spend time with your mom. Mine is in PA and I am in CO so it is pretty far :(
I just did a half this weekend (as training for my fall marathon so at marathon pace, rather than half pace) so although today was supposed to be speedwork, I downgraded to an easy run to give my legs a break.

Reply

Brooke looks so sweet in white. I must say, I think grapes in cereal is a bit weird…but that is okay :)!
My workout killed me today! Humid and speed don’t mix!!!!
My mom lives in FL. Abs and plank…oh my! that is such a convicting question. Too long, but i keep threatning to do them! Tomorrow, I am going to start tomorrow!!!! ask me if I did!

My mom lives one mile away from me. I’m sooo lucky!!!
Last time I did abs….um not sure. Every week when Monday rolls around I’m always going to start an ab/plank workout but it just never happens. It really needs to start.
I had a good 7.5 mile run in yucky humid weather at 4:30 am.
Enjoy your mom!!!!

Reply

I’ll bet those tiny champagne grapes would be awesome on there too :)

My mom lives 15 minutes from me but she isn’t like yours so it isn’t as awesome as it might sound.

Still ellipti-building up from nothing. Might try 45 min later in the week…or possibly even an hour. So glad your running is going well!

We have an old farmhouse, and the flroos in most of the downstairs are small planks of oak – in a honey type color – it’s fitting for our home’s trim as well – I recommend oak – however – I do like our douglas fir flooring- it has a unique grain and stains easily…we refinished it in our kitchen…but it really scratches easily with the kids and dog! so beware of the scratches!!my good friend Jennifer Rizzo just had her flroos redone in a dark stain (eco-friendly) and it turned out awesome – and my other good friend Tracey (French Larkspur) just painted her wooden flroos white – which are also beautiful – many options – but visit their blogs for inspiration??

Grapes in cereal sounds delicious! I have been loving grapes so much lately! And it is completely normal that this kind of stuff makes you happy! It does me too :) I did abs today, too, and there was a lot of planking involved. I LOVE it!

New route for me – Round Top road on Oahu. Straight UP for 2 miles, then back down. The view of the sun coming up on Diamond Head was totally worth it!

~My run this morning was kind of blah. My legs weren’t waking up!! I am most looking forward to my 15k trail race on Sunday….the quadzilla!!
~Unfortunately my mom lives an hour south of me. I wish she was my neighbor! :(
~I did abs on Sat…i enjoy doing ab work.

P.s. Grapes & nectarines & almost every fruit is acceptable in cereal!!
P.P.S Enjoy your time with your momma!

Reply

I ran 3 miles this morning. Much much much slower than you :)

My momma lives close. So we see her a lot. My inlaws live about 5 hours away, so my big kids left today to spend the week with them. Sad!

I’m not sure how I feel about planks, I can’t get into it… I feel like I barely have time to run in the mornings and my alarm doesn’t work prior to 7am!

Reply

Wegmans has SIX bell peppers (mixed bag of yellow/red/green) for $4.99 that makes me beyond excited because my local grocery store tries to charge $1.99 for a green one… and $2.99 for the reds / yellow – SERIOUSLY?!?! That is one heck of a sale and I would have bought a million of them as well.

Last time I did abs was today! When it comes to planking I like it but it always makes me feel like a wuss. I see people planking for 5 minutes and I’m in tears, sweating profusely, and shaking violently at 2 minutes. I prefer the 1 minute plank : )

AND my mom lives on Conesus Lake in upstate NY, I am going to visit her over her birthday for 5 days at the end of the month, I can’t wait!!

Reply

I did 4 miles this morning and am looking forward to my speed workout on Wednesday (tempo run).

I did abs a couple of days ago and I really like working on them. I love the burn!

I want to try and do a plank every day, but I keep forgetting. :) I remembered today and did 2 mins 3 secs and it just about killed me. My goal is to make it to 3 mins soon, but I don’t know if that will really happen.

Reply

I just got back from a 5.5 mile lunchtime run. I’m most looking forward to a 10 mile trail run later this week!

You are sooo lucky; I live in Alaska where red peppers are $2 to $3 a pop (as are avocados).

Reply

Every fruit is good on cereal and smeared with either peanut butter or nutella. Let’s write a new rule book that just has that in it. We could make a fortune.

Have fun with your Mom! Excited to hear all about your frozen yogurt filled adventures!

Reply

I get excited about produce too. My Mom lives in Colorado. I biked this morning and I am suppose to run tonight, but there’s a thunderstorm right now.

Reply

My mom is about 3 1/2 hours from me so not an easy pick-up :( We do get together on weekends though. My first day/night back on the road is tonight :) I’m going to start off very slow; I don’t really have a goal for tonight except one mile with my partner (German Shepherd, Layla) on leash. I’m going to quit at that point and see how I’m affected overall before I amp things up (hopefully tomorrow).
I wish I had known about planks a long time ago…I’ve seen so much difference in my body just bc of planks than I’ve ever seen with any exercise designed to strengthen my core. I’ve still got a way to go, but even my 20 year old daughter said the other day by the pool, “Mom, dang, you have abs.” I took it as a complement :)

Reply

Wonder if I could price match those red peppers here! lol. If they are less than $1 it is just inviting me to buy multiple. I love LOVE red peppers. Eating them with hummus is my favorite. Like a little too much. So I guess to answer your question, no you are normal…unless I am not normal…so ya, maybe it is not normal ;)

I did planks on the exercise ball. It makes it just that much harder, but my abs need all the help they can get.

I am looking forward to book club on Thursday. It is my turn to host. The book we read was ‘The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie’ so naturally I am going to make a few different pies to eat while we discuss (chat about everything else for 2 hrs and spend 5 min talking about the book). I just bought a half gallon of heaving whipping cream to make the aforementioned pies, so you know they are going to be good!

Have so much fun with your mom. How long is she staying?

Reply

50 minutes of running in the rain! It surprisingly wasn’t too bad.

I should probably do abs right now since the last time I did them was last Thursday…whoops!

Reply

Have fun with your mom! My mom lives about 15 mins away and we have plans on Thurs to go out to dinner and see The Heat. Can’t wait!

Reply

I had an easy (but HOT) run this morning. I’m easing back into marathon training a after a month off! I’m looking forward to an early morning run around Boston with my cousin’s wife later this week.

My mom has lived in Koln, Germany for the past 2 years, but is moving back to NJ in November! Can’t wait. Then we will only be 5 hours apart driving instead of a 5-hour time difference.

Last time I did abs was probably in yoga last week. Planks and side arm balances, etc. I love planks, but have to actually DO them!

Reply

No run today…too much work today! My week is all about getting my house ready to go on the market, so not much fun!

My mom lives part time in GA, part time in PA…all the time away from me. :/

I hate doing planks, but that’s the ab exercise I do the most! (Not often enough though!!!)

Reply

I didn’t run today— recovering from my half on Saturday!! My mommy lives with me :) I like planks but I don’t do them often enough. I do 8 minute abs everyday, including today!

Reply

Today was not a run day for me. Yesterday was and tomorrow is. I look forward to all runs these days!

My mom lives 0.9 miles from me. Love having my parents that close by!

I did abs a couple of days ago. Love planks!

Reply

I am going to run 4 miles in a little while … my legs are so done from soccer fitness this morning, though (aka sprinting)
I get to ride for the first time since October tomorrow … excited! I also am running 6 miles on Saturday, which is my longest run to date

My mom lives with me! The benefits of being a teen :)

I did abs last week. I was doing really well with them, so I should probably start doing more. I love planks!

Reply

My mom lives about 10 minutes away, so I get to see her all the time. I don’t know what I’d do if I lived any amount of distance from her.
I’ve been doing yoga, which helps with working out my abs at time. I love it!

Reply

My run today didn’t exist because it was a rest day. :) Tomorrow!

Our pup has recently learned that the electronics by the TV are entertaining, as well. We’ve devised a system where we put the TV on mute, and every time she starts chewing on something over there, we turn it up full volume. She doesn’t like that very much.

And please ignore the fact that I just compared Brooke to our dog. :P

Storming outside, so I just finished 11 miles on the treadmill watching Breaking Bad episodes to catch up.

3 red peppers for a buck breaks any record I have ever seen. I do a red pepper dance at just 2 for a dollar.

Reply

Have fun with your mom! My mom & MIL live about 4.5 hrs away, so I see them a fair amount but not as much as I’d like. 3 red peppers for $1! Awesome! Whip up some homemade hummus & you’ve got the perfect snack! This is my last week b4 marathon training begins, so lovin’ all of my runs. No pressure yet!

Reply

I did a ten mile walk/jog with a double jogging stroller. it was killer 90 degrees and I got a sunburn. The thing was… I felt great after.

Reply

Planks are my frenemy! I do them every night….dread it before but then love the feeling after!

Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition is the BEST motivator on the planet. I swear my runs are faster after I’ve watched an episode!

Also sweetness (re: any kind of fruit) in ANYTHING is good for me!

My mom lives in Miami (about 7 hours away from me) and I can’t wait til we live closer one day!
I am so impressed by your perfect negative splits!

I did 5 miles this morning in the woods with my dad. It was a fantastic run!!! I did abs on Sunday. I love doing planks especially if I’m using the powerplate!

I’m doing a FrogFuel giveaway on my blog today and tomorrow!

Reply

I did 45 minutes on the elliptical this afternoon when I came home from work while watching ‘Income Property’ on HGTV, striding backwards during commercials breaks. Man, there are a lot of commercials!

Reply

I think that cereal looks delicious! I have never tried grapes but I will have to now. I love the thinking outside the box with cereal! Yum!

I did 4mils last night with my favorite running partner, my dog! :)

Reply

My goodness, I think Brooke gets cuter in each picture.

I did 4 miles today at a 7:30 pace. It felt really easy, which was nice.

I *cough* live with my mom at the moment because I am trying to save money while going through the credential program. She’s my best friend and much more like a roommate than a mom, so it’s cool.

Grapes in your cereal is fine by me! Grapes are my favorite food, so having them in anything is a-okay!

Momma lives in Chicago and I live in FL. Sad to be so far away from her. My run this morning was hot and short. I’m looking forward to my long run this week because I’m doing some more experimenting with fuel :D Did abs this evening and I LOVE planks!

Reply

5 HOT and sweaty miles at 7:30 pm tonight! My legs are on fire, but if I want to run this half marathon in September, I have to get the training in!! : )

Reply

I had an amazing run today. Ended up being on the treadmill, due to the extreme heat/humidity here in MN! But, 9.1 miles in 60 minutes! Also pulled my 6 year old on the tag-a-long and 4-year-old in the bike trailer (yes, both of them) behind my bike for a 12 mile bike ride.

My mom lives 15 minutes away, MIL lives 5 minutes away. SO awesome, and cannot imagine it any other way!

Ab work was done today, during my HIIT workout today after my run! It happens about every other day…

Reply

2.25 sweaty miles with the walk to run group. I get to see Britt from ChicagoRunningGirl there. I know you are jealous. :) She is super nice and so encouraging. Last week she stuck with me to help me get my times in. It was super hot and humid. V finished like a champ. He makes me look bad.

Anyway..my Mom lives in South Dakota.

My run today was awesome! I had gotten so used to just running on city streets and finally got a chance today to go out to the forest preserve path. That really gets you back to the essentials of running and not all the stop and go and traffic and people everywhere. Just you and nature. My mom is going to bike with me on the same forest path tomorrow while I run because she lives nearby!

Reply

I live with my mom, hehe (and it’s her birthday today!).
I love planks and plank variations. I try to do them at least three times per week.
Great 8-miler!

Reply

I can’t say I’ve ever put any fruit in my cereal other than bananas.

My run today is 5-7 miles and, unless the temp and humidity drop, I’ll probably be running it on the treadmill.

My mom lives about four miles down the road from us.

Reply

Yesterday when you wrote this, I did 5 miles after work. This morning I did 3 miles before work and I’ll do another 4-5 after work. It’s hard to increase mileage in the summer in Georgia.. .Even this morning, at 72 degrees at 6 am, the humidity was 93%! So gross. I’m splitting up my runs during the week so I don’t feel as dead/dehydrated at the end of the week like I did last week. Although my favorite run this week will probably be my easy 5 mile run on Saturday with my husband. I like running together and I like that he runs with me because he knows it makes me happy- even though he’s not so much a fan of running!

My mom lives about an hour away from us. She still does cute things like bake cookies/pies/casseroles when we come over though.

I haven’t done abs in forever. I like planks a LOT better than crunches though! Pilates and yoga used to be my life, I should probably get back into those.

Reply

Have a wonderful time with your mom!

Reply

I have a love/hate…but mostly love relationship with planks…last ab workout was yesterday morning at CRXWorx

Reply

Today was an “easy” 4.5 mi. My legs felt every mile of the 7 miles I ran Sunday! This Half Marathon training is no joke! Lucky for me my mom lives about 30 mins from me in a suburb of Baton Rouge. I did abs & plenty of planks Wednesday at Yoglates. I’m not really a fan of planks but they are better than burpees!!

Reply

I won the gold medal at the local gym olympics for plank and I only got silver for running. I find plank very easy even though I never practice it. Of all the things to have a natural ability at, I’m good at plank. I’d much rather be good at running or some other sport like tennis or golf.

Reply

I always put grapes in my cereal!

Reply

I don’t think I’m a fan of the plank. I don’t do it very often, even though I should. Maybe I don’t do it correctly, but I never really feel like I get anything out of it.

This week I’m trying to get back into blogging and running and ab workouts and weights and all the fun stuff. 5 months post-baby Pickle and I’m in a rut. What’s your best advice on getting out of a rut?
