The best post race meal of my life.

Time for a 4th of July recap because I am sure you would love another picture of fireworks.

I have never had a better post race lunch in my life.  I had to run to the store before going to the beach yesterday to grab something.  While I was there I saw all of these people standing in lines for a sandwich and you know my theme in life is to EAT WHERE THERE IS A LINE because it must be worth waiting for.

This sandwich looks like it is a normal size but really it was like four normal pieces of bread.  The turkey was so fresh and I could have eaten the avocado that they put on there for five hours straight.  And the pickles.  The pickles.  I also had a lemonade with the sandwich.   I may be coming to Santa Cruz more often now.

We spent the day at the beach.   It was a little cloudy but still beautiful.  Brooke does not love the sand (I think she doesn’t like to be dirty) and has to be on my lap while we are there so I got to snuggle her all day.

DSC 4650

Grilled up the best burgers ever (potato salad on my burger…you can mock it until you try it).

DSC 4651

Lots of marshmallow roasting and do you see the stick with the gummy bears?  Turns out that roasting gummy bears doesn’t work out very nicely.

DSC 4652

Buy the chocolate covered graham crackers for your s’mores….  actually do whatever you want with your s’mores because as long as you have the three main ingredients you will be happy.  PS how did someone even think to put these three things together?  Either way, I love them.

I could not believe how many fireworks were at the beach.  It went on for about an hour and you could see them all along the shore.  New 4th of July tradition:

Finished off by staying up until almost 2 a.m. watching Pitch Perfect and eating my favorite store bought cookies with the gang.

Experiencing some DOMS (with a mixture of laziness and staying up too late) and so Brooke and I just went on a walk this morning instead of a run. Running will resume tomorrow!

That sounds like a great 4th….and your race, AMAZING! Great job!
Our 4th was great. Started with a tempo run, followed by our float in the parade, followed by grilling with cousins and fireworks!
We too stayed up too late…we have kinda been doing that all week and so today and am not very motivated to do anything except comment on blogs :).
Favorite cookie….I am not a big fan of store bought cookies. I am a total homemade cookie or find some ice cream kinda person. I also don’t mind girls scout bought :)
Have a great weekend!!!

Those circus animals are seriously one of the best store bought cookies ever. I think I could eat the entire bag and not even realize it.
Last movie I saw was last night, it was Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. I liked it. My husband did not though.

BBQ, fireworks, and a night out on the town with cousins for my 4th!
Double stuffed Oreos all the way!
The last movie I saw was a labor movie for school… no I wouldn’t recommend it :)
Those graham crackers look awesome. I really want some s’mores now.

I have never had those cookies and now I seriously need to try them!! I love “dads chocolate chip” cookies for store bought ones :)

I’m Canadian so we have Canada Day on July 1st here. It was a great time with fireworks set to music… Pretty cool!

I just watched a movie in my class today (summer pro d for this teacher is an immersion French course). It was a movie from France called “Être et Avoir” and it was sooo good! Not usually a big fan of documentary type movies but you will absolutely fall in love with the kids in this film! Highly recommended :)

Those s’mores look amazing!!! Last Movie I watched was Dispicable me 2 .

I love everything about this post!

1. That sandwhich looks amazing!!
2. S’mores – I LOVE s’mores everything. If you add a s’mores flavor I will jump at it in a heart beat!
3. Pitch Pefect is a GREAT movie along with iced animal crackers – you just can’t go wrong!

I’m sad I didn’t receive an invite to this awesome celebration! Looks perfect! We just had a family day :-) And oddly enough cooked Mexican food? It was great though! We went for a walk and saw fireworks. I love the store bought soft sugar cookies with the colored frosting. I end up just eating the frosting off though… Joe eats the cookie!

Oh man I need to make s’mores with you. That’s almost as brilliant as chocolate chip cookies for the graham cracker. Burgers smores and fireworks are the perfect July fourth celebration. I missed the s’mores but I’ll be doing that tomorrow.

Reply

That sandwich looks and sounds so delicious! And so does the smore. Graham crackers plain? Meh. Chocolate by itself? Pretty good. Marshmallows? Don’t like them. But you put them together and something magical happens. How are they sooo good?

Yesterday I ran a small race I have ran a few times on previous 4th of July. It is a small race and this is the first year they had timing and it failed. lol. Such a bummer because I like small races cause then I actually place. Ha! I know I placed, but no award. Oh well. It was definitely warm, but the views were amazing. We run on dirt roads through fields and on trails. I saw so many horses, deer and other animals just feet away from me. Then we hit the breakfast in the park, the parade and then hung out with the family for the day and finished with fireworks. I think I set a goal to consume as many calories as possible..and I am pretty sure I achieved that said goal.

We saw Despicable Me 2 Wednesday night. I liked it just as much the kids :)

Way to go again on the race! You are my hero!

Fabe’s Mini cookies. Usually I am a chocolate person but the oatmeal raisin kind is exceptional. (They are ‘fairly healthy, too.’)

I just finished watching 4 episodes in a row of Downton Abbey Series 3. DOWNTON is amazing–I always heard that but ignored people because I thought I would be crusty.. however it is hilarious!

As a kid and teen I loved the animal cookies that came in the little cardboard box. I don’t think I’ve had them since I was a teen, I’m not even sure if they make them anymore.

Now my favorite cookies are probably homemade chocolate chip cookies or oatmeal cookies.

We MUST be BFF’s! The last movie I watched was Pitch Perfect!!! (Yesterday! For the first time!) I was immediately sad/mad that none of my friends sat me down and made me watch it before yesterday! I LOVE it! I’ve missed out on months of enjoying it! :) No more! I shall watch it regularly now! :)

Reply

Oh, it seems like you had such a fun day!! I taught 6 group ex classes yesterday and then went to the best fireworks show of my life! No lie. Love those iced cookies.

Reply

I am a firm believer of the line rule. If people are willing to wait for food, it MUST be good! My favorite store bought cookie is probably the big soft ones by Pepperidge farm, but nothing beats a bakery cookie! Last movie I saw was probably something on TV… most likely a chick flick… and most likely how to lose a guy in 10 days. haha!

Reply

I have to know where you got that sammich from!? We’re moving closer to Santa Cruz & I have big plans to hang out in SC & Capitola a lot more.

Reply

I second that! I have been in the Santa Cruz area for years an thought I would recognize every sandwich county wide!

Reply

My guess is the Picnic Basket! Curious as well as a Santa Cruzian :)

Reply

I agree with these ladies ^^ I went to undergrad at UC-Santa Cruz and I have no idea where the sandwich is from!! Give it up!!

Reply

Ahhhhh girls! Sorry!!! Okay I can’t remember the name or find it online but it was in aptos next to a cvs and it had Foods in the name of the grocery store! It was a fancy store and kind of looked like whole foods?!?

Reply

Ok, with that new information I am going to guess… Deluxe Foods:) I recently moved into the Aptos Soquel area from Santa Cruz proper and just love it down here. I think it’s the best little place ever.

Reply

We went to the local park for the 4th. They had train rides, jumpy houses, face painting, etc!

Favorite store bought cookies are Keebler Fudge Stripes. Or Chewy Chips Ahoy. Or Pepperidge Farm chocolate chunk. Or….

Reply

Food, smores, and friends definitely sounds like the perfect celebration for the fourth.
Last movie I saw was Side Effects – kind of creepy, but good!
And I can’t do store bought cookies – homemade all the way!

Reply

We had a totally lame 4th–no fireworks except the ones on tv. :( i feel bad that we missed out and definitely won’t let it happen again next year!

Reply

I’m sure you are complaining about having to cuddle Brooke ;) Just kidding! I lovee campfires! I went to my friend’s house on a lake last night and there were SO many fireworks!

Favorite store bought cookie? Double stuff Oreo. Can’t be beat!

Last movie you saw? Silver Linings Playbook. I liked it.

Your post-race sandwich looks delish! I’m a firm believer that the right bread can really make a sandwich awesome and that bread look like it was tasty. You definitely have your marshmallow toasting down to a science. Chocolate-covered graham crackers are a genius idea! Glad someone came up with that. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Reply

Pitch perfect…..loved it!!!!
That sandwich looks amazing!

Reply

First I ran a 5 mile race. Then I marched in the parade… marching band all the way! Then we went to my aunt’s for AMAZING food. Then we went to another party with more food! THEN we chilled at the park until watching the fireworks!:) And I would’ve definitely waited in line for that sandwich. Yum.

Reply

The last movie I saw was Iron Man 3 – considering it was the first movie I had seen in a year, it was awwwweesome!

Reply

What did you do for the 4th?
-Ran a 5K race. Then weeded our produce garden. Rested for the majority of the day. But mustered enough strength to help grill (but mostly eat) burgers.

Favorite store bought cookie?
– Oreos

Last movie you saw? Would you recommend it?
Saving Private Ryan on TV. Yes, totally would recommend it if you can manage to get through the first 5 minutes. I barely did.

I’m obsessed with smores.

The sandwich and the beach looked amazing! It must have been awful for you to hug Brooke all day :( ;)

Entemans soft chocolate chip cookies! They are way tooo addictive!

I spent the 4th on the beach and bbq’ing with the family, it was great!
My favorite store bought cookie has to be the GIANT chocolate chip cookie from my local bakery. It’s so yummy and soooo big that it’s impossible not to love!
I recently watched The Dark Knight and honestly it was just too long. Pitch Perfect, on the other hand, is totally awesome…hope you liked it!

Reply

we saw the fireworks here and they were literally and hour long! They just kept going on and on.. maybe too long.. haha
The last movie I saw in theater was The Great Gatsby and I was so disappointed I didn’t like it

Reply

We spent the 4th at home with friends and family while watching the fireworks and eating grilled black bean burgers (yummy!) My favorite store bought cookie would be double stuffed oreos! The last movie we saw was Despicable Me 2 and it was adorable.

Reply

Those cookies are what my dreams are made of!

Reply

So you may want to end our friendship when I tell you this…but I don’t like s’mores….are you freaking out right now?! ;)
Marshmallows just give me the heebee jeebees…I don’t know why.
LOVE those frosted animal crackers though!

Reply

We made s’mores with peanut butter Oreos. Omg it was life changing. I highly recommend it.

Reply

I heard that you can roast starbursts and they’re great. I haven’t tried it myself, though.

Reply

What a delicious day, as always!

Reply

Ultimate S’More’s tip: Reese’s peanut butter cups, roasted marshmallow and chocolate covered graham cracker.

Reply

I was just going to post the same thing! (well, minus the chocolate covered graham cracker) – once you’ve had a s’more with a Reese’s peanut butter cup, you’ll never go back to plain ‘ole chocolate again. Life changing.

Reply

Sounds like we should go camping together, Heather! :)

Reply

That s’more is genius!
